I think three things ultimately frustrate me about the "you should care about poorly written women" argument.
First: there's well-written women. There's plenty. I'm going to find them, actually, and leave this badly written stuff behind, and maybe the writer will do a better job next time.
Second: you get people passionately defending poorly written women in old favorites in wildly regressive ways. Like just admit LOTR has like 5 named women and only two really do anything. Stop forcing a progressive label it doesn't deserve. Tolkien is dead and isn't going to become a feminist posthumously so deal with the story as it is instead of trying to justify it. They're not well written! It's fine.
Third: you get the argument that people are more accepting of poorly written men. This is almost certainly true but you can't control a fandom, so bringing this up is mostly a waste of time. What you can do is ignore poorly written men even harder than poorly written women. Mourn the women's squandered potential and pretend the poorly written men don't exist and then find works with well written women like I said in step 1.

Spent far too long in my hermit hole
Hope y'all don't mind getting spammed with outdated replies, I have missed y'all so much!
Plus I'm sick, and I made a "Stop Being Sick" Old Fashioned, so let's do this 🥰🍸🤧 (I used to be a bartender and craft cocktails are my reinforcers, lol. My recipe is below the cut if you'd like to try it out! Also, I'm not a doctor, this is booze not medicine 😅)
Lynna's "Stop Being Sick" Old Fashioned recipe (please drink responsibly y'all)
Ingredients: - 2oz Bulleit Bourbon - 1tbs honey (adjust depending on how sweet you like it) - 1oz hot water - Homemade Bitters/Tinctures ~ Please use responsibly, and check before ingesting concentrated plant shit. You can use regular bitters if you like, those were also made to help people that were sick 🥰 There's also a ton of delicious flavored bitters out there you can play with! (also fun fact! All bitters are tinctures, but tinctures are usually only called bitters if made with a bitter herb and/or a combination of multiple plants) - Mugwort Bitters/Tincture ~ Please do not ingest Mugwort. It can cause a lot of negative side effects. I've decided that I don't care about those particular effects, but this is NOT a plant to ingest willy nilly (especially for those with uteruses)! Please do your research and consult a health professional with safety concerns. It's also the most insanely bitter fucking herb, so other bitter plants would probably taste even better! (I'm weirdo that loves bitter too much, lol) - Elderberry Tincture ~ Adds delightful not-too-sweet sweetness and color, plus it's supposed to knock the sick right out - Ginger Tincture ~ I love ginger bitters for the sharp, spicy, but almost citrus flavor they add to drinks. Plus it's ginger. Also supposed to be good for the sickness, lol - 1 big ass fancy ice cube - Orange peel for oil and garnish
Instructions: 1. Stir the honey into the whiskey and hot water until dissolved (it doesn't have to be perfect) 2. Add a safe amount of your bitters/tinctures of choice and stir 3. Carefully drop the big hunk of ice in the cup and stir until the warm drink gets cold 4. Hold the pith side of your orange peel toward you and press lightly until the oils spray the top of the drink. Rub the peel around the inside rim of the glass before dropping it in. You can stir the hunk of ice with it first, or just swirl the glass to mix the oils in. 5. Enjoy, and please stop being sick! 🥰🤧
Another disclaimer just in case: drink responsibly, and remember that I'm not a doctor. Please don't ingest anything that a random internet person tells you to without checking that it's safe first!!
Cheers!
~ Lynna 💜✨

A Gin Cocktail Recipe Book
🍸🍹
Most of the recipes came from the BBC Good Food website.
Well, I have to believe that the British know how to make a good martini right? Although I hear that Mr. Bond had been getting it wrong for many years (stirred is better than shaken, apparently).

good luck babe, please!
barry is having a crisis re: his sexuality!! and ofc hal is involved!
this is also the next part of my series on ao3. i based it on a song about sitting alone at a bar so now a bar has to be the setting for each fic... which has been difficult for me as someone who does not drink.
Barry kept commenting on how he’d improve the chemical-themed puns on the bar menu, which Hal teased him about and definitely didn’t find endearing. He’d left him waiting at their table, insisting on actually paying for them for once.  The bar was surprisingly busy. The bartenders wore lab coats and gloves and masks. Safety goggles sat on their heads. It’s what he imagined Barry looked like in his lab. “What's yer poison?" the bartender asked. Hal scrolled through the menu on Barry’s phone. “Do you have beer? The cheaper, the better.” The bartender adjusted their goggles. “We don’t carry beer. We have a hard kombucha?” What the fuck? Thankfully, Hal had an incredible poker face. “Why don’t you make me two of your favorites?” he asked. The bartender smirked and got to work. Hal missed the dive he used to frequent at Andrews. Who didn’t carry beer?
Two colorful drinks in a large taped flask were set in front of him. “SCIENCE PUN. It’s dangerous,” they said with a wink.  Hal grabs the drinks and wanders over to their booth to find Barry taking down some nachos.  “Easy Bear, no one's taking it from you,” Hal says. Barry glared at him while stuffing a handful of nachos into his mouth.  “Cute,” Hal says before placing the beaker in front of him. “I see why Iris locked it down.” He skillfully ignored the tugging in his chest. “Shut up,” Barry says. “You didn’t have to get me anything, you know. It was nice enough for you to take me here.” Hal rolled his eyes. “I did. And you might need it," Hal reaches into his jacket pocket and pulls out a flask.  “I have it on good authority that this shit is strong enough to overcome even your metabolism.” Barry stared at him blankly. “So you can get fucked up! Don't you miss being under the influence?” “I was never much of a drinker,” Barry says softly, taking the flask from Hal’s hands. “Or anything else for that matter.” He unscrews the cap and brings the flask to his nose. “It doesn’t smell like anything." “The best stuff never does," Hal says, even though he has no idea if it’s true. But it seemed right. Ollie would know.
