Meet the big bad of my Superhero AU. Just imagine Titan from Megamind but he was always malicious and controlling to begin with (and he actually has a wife and isn’t a massive incel).

Since I'm still working out this part of the AU, I'll just provide some vague stuff to chew on.

Choclate Bar was just some guy who on one really liked. He didn't really have a good personality either, but he did want to be liked. Somehow, he found out about a powerful piece of alien tech in its testing phase and decided to take it for himself. Long story short, the tech corrupted his mind a ton, leading to him kidnaping some of the scientists (the Gummy Bears and English Muffin) and the alien whose power was in the device (Click). Then, he gaslights a fellow criminal with future vision and mind-reading (Moonstone) into working for him or he'd kill their "close friend" (Diary). Then he helped a failing celebrity (Cracker) back on his feet with artificial super powers and a new fit in exchange for all his monetary gain and loyalty.

Overall, CB’s a manipulative piece of shit who kidnaps and gaslights people lol. What a guy, but his wife's sorta hates him now as a result </3.

Now that All In is All Over this year...

After months of planning, promotion, and palpitations, All In is in the books. Whether you were one of the 10,000 plus in the Sears Center outside Chicago, or one of who-knows-how-many watching from home (I pre-ordered this on FITE), the Bullet Club-branded “love letter to professional wrestling” was pulled off pretty much as planned. I’m not going to proclaim it my favorite event this year, but I did enjoy it a lot overall. I was concerned that it would dip into Heroes of Wrestling territory with the frequent cameos by older stars, but it pretty clearly felt to me like One Night Stand ‘05. Or maybe a little like ECW’s Barely Legal from 1997, considering how soon it had to sign off after the main event.

That was my only serious issue with it: it was mistimed. Watching it from home, I could see Paul Turner show up at ringside towards the final minutes of Kazuchika Okada vs. Marty Scurll, shouting towards Marty, possibly trying to communicate to him to wrap his match up. It was a little after 10:40 PM ET at this point, with the show scheduled to end at 11 PM. These assumptions were proven by how quickly they transitioned afterward to the main event six-man tag, and a few minutes into the action, I could hear someone say over the camera, “We gotta go home, we gotta go home.” If it truly was Cody and the Young Bucks calling the shots (not an outside entity, which I’ll touch on shortly), then sure mistakes could be made during their first time running a show, and they can be easily corrected if they do this again. Hindsight is 20/20, but they could have shaved off some time from some of the longer matches (including Okada vs. Scurll) as well as cut some of the comedy segments (Marty vs. the critical fingers).

My more minor, personal issue: I came into this show still expecting it to be it’s own unique thing, despite worrying that it may just be an ROH event with guest stars. That’s kind of what it was to me in the end. ROH angles, wrestlers, and personnel aplenty, with lip service paid to Impact Wrestling and PWG as well. All three promotions were represented on commentary for most of the night by ROH play-by-play man Ian Riccaboni, Impact and New Japan color commentator Don Callis, and PWG lead announcer Excalibur (my favorite on the crew). On top of that, this independent “for us, by us” event was given a lot of sponsors. Pro Wrestling Tees was a given, but there were also logos for Cracker Barrel, Hot Topic, and TGI Fridays on the ring skirt. Cracker Barrel was basically a sponsor for Adam Page vs. Joey Janela, with the wrestlers using an actual Cracker Barrel barrel, and Riccaboni putting over how well Cracker Barrel treated the crew with catering (and Callis and Excalibur telling him to cool it). This Tumblr is not sponsored by Cracker Barrel.

Looking at the actual wrestling card, the last three matches were my favorites of the night. Kenny Omega vs. “Penta El Zero” was pretty much everything I hoped it would be, with Penta coming off as big a star as Omega, who still tore it up himself a few weeks removed from the G1. This was one of three matches where the outcome was never in question, but they still pulled off some successful close calls. The post-match angle with the lights going off and Chris Jericho disguising himself as a prone Penta to attack Omega was excellent. Not so excellent though that it’s only building towards a match on Jericho’s cruise for now.  

Some time could have been shaved off it to help with the pacing, but I thought Okada vs. Scurll wass quite good and would fit in just fine on a New Japan card (if Scurll were on the level of Will Ospreay is over there). In regards to the rushed main event, I still felt it was everything it needed to be, a dazzling exchange of fast-paced action. Plus, before any WWE contracts come into play, we still got a brief one-on-one between Kota Ibushi and Rey Mysterio (paying tribute to Wolverine by dressing up like the Marvel Comics character, along with his Adamantium-infused knees). Rey Fenix and Bandido deserve to be bigger stars.

Cody got his big moment, beating Nick Aldis to win the NWA World Heavyweight Title, following in his father’s footsteps. The post-match celebration was wonderful (and I thought the crowd was great all night watching it from home), and the entrances felt major league (I applaud Cody for exchanging a bear for his own dog). The match itself in between? It just didn’t do as much for me. Both title matches is why I say this gave me Heroes of Wrestling vibes, with the reliance on older stars (Diamond Dallas Page here, Lanny Poffo there) to provide detours in the matches.

It would have been nice if the ROH World Title Match, Jay Lethal vs. Flip Gordon, was treated with as much reverence, rather than become a comedy match since Jay Lethal’s title defenses within the next month are already lined up. I wasn’t too keen on Black Machismo mistaking Brandi Rhodes (out in Flip’s corner) as his Elizabeth, nor on Flip countering Black Machismo by channelling some old racist. Both are talented wrestlers that put on a pretty good match regardless. 

As someone who doesn’t watch Being The Elite on a regular basis (I at least caught the go-home episode this week), I appreciated the recap of the Adam Page/Joey Ryan saga, culminating in Joey Ryan’s “death.” As silly as it was and as much as “purists” may complain to Jim Cornette so that they can laugh about him going off on something new, I very much enjoyed everything that followed Page vs. Janela. Following video footage, of Joey Ryan’s penis rising from the dead, Joey came out with what we can best describe as “penis druids,” hit his signature moves on his “murderer” Page and laid him out, and then had his druids carry out a prone Page as the crowd chanted, “Rest in Penis.” Funny. Fun. Just about perfect. Oh wait, didn’t Joey Janela just go through a table off of a ladder? A bit of disservice to the wild and risky match that happened before this.

The remaining Bullet Clubber of the night, Stephen Amell, went on second on the main card, wrestling Christopher Daniels in his third ever wrestling match. I’ve been watching Arrow since the start, so I was up for seeing Amell venture a little into the wrestling world, starting with that SummerSlam match involving PAC. It was also nice to see Josh Segarra (who played the lead villain in Arrow two seasons ago) accompany Amell to ringside, even though he didn’t stick around. Watching Amell wrestle one-on-one, he felt like Shane McMahon. He could hit a lot of big moves, but he didn’t seem entirely confident in between. The coast-to-coast dropkick made me think this, though at least he didn’t throw any terrible punches. Daniels was a total pro, and he won it with the Best Moonsault Ever, though they took a convoluted route to that finish, with the big table spot and Jerry Lynn as the ref getting more emotionally involved in the match.

The moments where this felt more independent than ROH happened early for me. I haven’t caught all of Zero Hour yet, but I did catch most of the Over Budget Battle Royal to see a lot of stand-out moments from independent names, among them Ethan Page, Jordynne Grace, and Marko Stunt. I was bummed neither of those three won, but of the ROH-related wrestlers, I was totally fine with it being Flip Gordon, especially after the tease of Bully Ray winning. Matt Cross and Maxwell Jacob Friedman both deserve to be big stars (and MJF still could be given his relative newness to wrestling), and I thought they had a solid opener. I liked the women’s match more than Amell vs. Daniels; not perfect, but spirited and energetic.

Nmap is an abbreviation of 'Network Mapper', and it's very well known free open source hackers tool. Nmap is mainly used for network discovery and security auditing. Literally, thousands of system admins all around the world will use nmap for network inventory, check for open ports, manage service upgrade schedules, and monitor host or service uptime. Nmap, as a tool uses raw IP packets in creative ways to determine what hosts are available on the network, what services (application name and version) those hosts are providing information about, what operating systems (fingerprinting) and what type and version of packet filters/ firewalls are being used by the target. There are dozens of benefits of using nmap, one of which is that fact that the admin user is able to determine whether the network (and associated nodes) need patching. Nmap's been featured in literally every hacker movie out there, not least the recent Mr. Robot series. It's also worth mentioning that there's a GUI version of Nmap called 'Zenmap'. We'd advise you to learn using Nmap (i.e. the 'command line') then rotate into Zenmap when you are feeling all confident.

John the Ripper (often you'll see abbreviated as 'JTR') wins the award for having the coolest name. John the Ripper, mostly just referred to as simply, 'John' is a popular password cracking pentesting tool that is most commonly used to perform dictionary attacks. John the Ripper takes text string samples (from a text file, referred to as a 'wordlist', containing popular and complex words found in a dictionary or real passwords cracked before), encrypting it in the same way as the password being cracked (including both the encryption algorithm and key), and comparing the output to the encrypted string. This tool can also be used to perform a variety of alterations to dictionary attacks. If you are somewhat confused between John the Ripper and THC Hydra then think of John the Ripper as an 'offline' password cracker whilst THC Hydra is an "online" cracker.

Password Cracking Tool

We've purposely placed THC Hydra underneath John The Ripper because they often go 'hand-in'hand'. THC Hydra (we've abbreviated to simply 'Hydra' throughout our site) is a hugely popular password cracker and has a very active and experienced development team. Essentially THC Hydra is a fast and stable Network Login Hacking Tool that will use dictionary or brute-force attacks to try various password and login combinations against an log in page. Web Vulnerability Scanner

The Zed Attack Proxy (ZAP) is now one of the most popular OWASP projects. The fact that you've reached this page means that you are likely already a relatively seasoned cybersecurity professional so it's highly likely that you are very familiar with OWASP, not least the OWASP Top Ten Threats listing which is considered as being the 'guide-book' of web application security. This hacking and pentesting tool is a very efficient as well as being an 'easy to use' program that finds vulnerabilities in web applications. ZAP is a popular tool because it does have a lot of support and the OWASP community is really an excellent resource for those that work within Cyber Security. ZAP provides automated scanners as well as various tools that allow you the cyber pro to discover security vulnerabilities manually. Understanding and being able to master this tool would also be advantageous to your career as a penetration tester. 6.Wireshark | Free

Web Vulnerability Scanners

Wireshark is a very popular pentesting tool and for over a year it was not included on our list, however, by popular demand we added it in late June 2016. Wireshark essentially captures data packets in a network in real time and then displays the data in human-readable format (verbose). The tool (platform) has been highly developed and it includes filters, color-coding and other features that lets the user dig deep into network traffic and inspect individual packets. If you'd like to become a penetration tester or work as a Cyber Security practioner, then learning how to use Wireshark is a must. There are a ton of resources out there to learn Wireshark, and, of particular interest, there's also a Wireshark Certification which you can achieve and place on your LinkedIn profile.

7.Aircrack-ng | Free

Password Cracking Tool

The Aircrack suite of Wifi (Wireless) hacking tools are legendary because they are very effectively when used in the right hands. For those new to this wireless-specific hacking program, Aircrack-ng is an 802.11 WEP and WPA-PSK keys cracking hacking tool that can recover keys when sufficient data packets have been captured (in monitor mode). For those tasked with penetrating and auditing wireless networks Aircrack-ng will become your best friend. It's useful to know that Aircrack-ng implements standard FMS attacks along with some optimizations like KoreK attacks, as well as the PTW attacks to make their attacks more potent. If you are a mediocre hacker then youll be able to crack WEP in a few minutes and you ought to be pretty proficient at being able to crack WPA/ WPA2. Digital Forensics

Maltego is different in that it works within a digital forensics sphere. Maltego is a platform that was designed to deliver an overall cyber threat picture to the enterprise or local environment in which an organization operates. One of the awesome things about Maltego which likely makes it so popular (and included in the Kali Linux Top Ten) is its's unique perspective in offering both network and resource based entities is the aggregation of information sourced throughout the web - whether it's the current configuration of a vulnerable router within a network or the current whereabouts of your staff members on their international visits, Maltego can locate, aggregate and visualize this data! 9.Cain and Abel Hacking Tool | Free

Password Cracker/ Password Hacking

Cain and Abel (often simply abbreviated to Cain) is a hugely popular hacking tool and one that is very often mentioned online in a variety of 'hacking tutorials'. At its' heart, Cain and Abel is a password recovery tool for Microsoft Windows but it can be used off-label in a variety of uses, for example, white and black hat hackers use Cain to recover (i.e. 'crack') many types of passwords using methods such as network packet sniffing and by using the tool to crack password hashes. Cain, for example, when used to crack password hashes would use methods such as dictionary attacks, brute force, rainbow table attacks and cryptanalysis attacks.

10.Nikto Website Vulnerability Scanner | Free

Website Vulnerability Scanner Hacking Tool

Nikto is another classic 'Hacking Tool' that a lot of pentesters like to use. Worth mentioning that Nickto is sponsored by Netsparker (which is yet another Hacking Tool that we have also listed in our directory). Nikto is an Open Source (GPL) web server scanner which is able to scan and detect web servers for vulnerabilities. The system searches against a database of over 6800 potentially dangerous files/ programs when scanning software stacks. Nikto, like other scanners out there, also scans for outdated (unpatched) versions of over 1300 servers, and version specific problems on over 275 servers. Interestingly, Nikto can also check server configuration items such as the presence of multiple index files, HTTP server options, and the platform will also try to identify installed web servers and web applications. Nikto will get picked up by any semi-decent IDS tool so its' really useful when conducting a white-hat/ white-box pentest. Certainly a great tool to learn your skills on when attacking an open box for training.

Book Questionnaire

I’ve been thinking about books, reading and storytelling a lot lately, so I’m mostly doing this to try and get some of my ideas straight.

1. Favourite childhood book? Peter Pan, Harry Potter and Les Contes de La Rue Mouffetard by Pierre Gripari.

2. What are you reading right now? Neil Gaiman’s ‘A View from the Cheap Seats’, a collection of essays, speeches and short non-fiction pieces on the theme of, essentially, stories.

3. What books do you have on request at the library? I don’t, I’m not signed up to any library at the moment.

4. Bad book habit? Starting a million books at the same time, and/or getting distracted mid-book by another book or five.

5. What do you currently have checked out at the library? Again, see above.

6. Do you have an e-reader? I have the Kindle app on my phone and iPad.

7. Do you prefer to read one book at a time, or several at once? I mean, what I prefer? To read one book at a time. What I invariably do? Read a gazillion at once, until one book or story hits me as particularly immediate and I devour the whole thing before returning to the others.

8. Have your reading habits changed since starting a blog? Not really. I guess I now have an outlet for any book theories or reflections I have; I wish I could say I allow myself more reflection time as a result but I’m not sure that’s true.

9. Least favorite book you read this year (so far?) Animal Crackers by Hannah Tinti, a chilling collection of vaguely animal-themed short stories. They’re undoubtedly well-written and accomplish what they set out to do, but that’s precisely the problem: it’s a bloody disturbing read that makes me shudder in a way I don’t particularly like. I do actually recommend it, I just don’t particularly like it.

10. Favorite book you’ve read this year? That’s tough - I’ve read a lot of excellent books. If I limit this to books I’ve *completed* so far this year, it’s probably The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch.

11. How often do you read out of your comfort zone? I’ve been making a conscious effort to read out of my comfort zone this year, and so far it’s been a success - about half my reads of the year so far have fell into categories I don’t normally touch: short stories, non-genre fiction, non-fiction, plays and classics.

12. What is your reading comfort zone? Fantasy, classic crime, travel and so-called ‘children’s books’

13. Can you read on the bus? It’s one of my favourite places to read!

14. Favorite place to read? Outdoors, lying on a patch of grass.

15. What is your policy on book lending? I almost always lend out my favourite books, I almost never get them back. What can I say, I don’t learn from my mistakes.

16. Do you ever dog-ear books? Totally. A good book is a worn-out book.

17. Do you ever write in the margins of your books? Sometimes? It depends on the book. I mostly do it with academic books and honestly can’t bring myself to apologise - I love reading other people’s margin notes.

18. Not even with text books? ^ I came clean already.

19. What is your favourite language to read in? Probably English, but I’ve been rediscovering the joys of reading in French (my native language) recently.

20. What makes you love a book? When it speaks to me and I can connect to it. This can be in terms of characters, world-building, plot, the tone of the narrator’s voice, anything - I really don’t care, but it has to speak to me on a personal, instinctive, primal level. 

21. What will inspire you to recommend a book? I can only really bring myself to recommend books that spoke to me, but even them I’m very selective, and usually try to carefully tailor recommendations to specific individuals.

22. Favourite genre? I don’t think I have one. Neil Gaiman once pointed out that someone else once pointed out that genres tell you which aisles not to bother going down in bookshops, and I think that’s true. I can’t list genres I like, only those I have no interest in.

23. Genre you rarely read (but wish you did?) Possibly historical fiction? I’ve always been a bit wary of it, but am curious to try it. It’s just hard to know where to start.

24. Favorite biography? Biography? This may be a little bizarre, but: the introductory chapter to the Peter Owens edition of The Oblivion Seekers, which recounts the short and spectacular life of its author Isabelle Eberhardt. Autobiography? My First Hundred Years, by Margaret Murray, published in her 99th year. She laments in the introduction that she’s never had any adventures, and then proceeds to recount 100 years of working as a nurse in India and an archaeologist in the Middle East. Pretty epic.

25. Have you ever read a self-help book? A couple. People seem intent on gifting them to me, though I rarely make it through the whole thing. One exception: Marie Kondo’s Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, which I’ve devoured multiple times and is now my personal bible.

26. Favorite cookbook? Fannie Merritt Farmer’s Boston Cooking School Cookbook, 1969 illustrated edition. I’m very selective about cookbooks and this is my absolute favourite - it has EVERYTHING. And diagrams.

27. Most inspirational book you’ve read this year (fiction or non-fiction)? ‘Inspirational’ is a really confusing word to me. Probably A Conjuring of Light by VE Schwab - something about the character of Lila Bard keeps nagging at me from a back corner of my brain and probably affects my decision-making process more than I care to admit.

28. Favourite reading snack? It totally depends on the book! Something related in some way or other; I always feel like books have flavour profiles. And associated sounds.

29. Name a case in which hype ruined your reading experience. I don’t listen to the hype when it comes to books, because 1) I often feel like I read a different book from everyone else, even if the cover says the same thing, and 2) I have no patience for books I don’t like and no qualms about giving up. So, I can’t say it’s ever happened to me. 

30. How often do you agree with critics about a book? Again, I can’t claim to know what the critics are saying about any given book.

31. How do you feel about giving bad/negative reviews? Quite comfortable, unless I personally know the writer. 

32. If you could read in a foreign language, which language would you chose? Russian, probably.

33. Most intimidating book you’ve ever read? Hunters in the Snow, by D.M. Thomas. The narrator is a young Adolf Hitler.

34. Most intimidating book you’re too nervous to begin? The Lord of the Rings - I simply haven’t read it and probably never will.

35. Favorite poet? Rimbaud! 

36. How many books do you usually have checked out of the library at any given time? As many as I can - my card is always maxed out!

37. How often have you returned book to the library unread? I... don’t think I ever have? Unfinished, certainly, but I always browse through at the very least.

38. Favorite fictional character? Ever? What kind of question IS this?!

39. Favorite fictional villain? The best villains aren’t really villains. [Yes, this is a cheap cop-out.]

40. Books I’m most likely to bring on vacation? Cheap YA Fantasy and travelogues related to my destination.

41. The longest I’ve gone without reading. Er... a couple of weeks?

42. Name a book that you could/would not finish. Fifty Shades of Grey. I bought it to see what all the fuss was about, got bored two chapters in, skipped to the sex scenes, found them so thrilling I fell asleep, and sold it off on ebay for 50p.

43. What distracts you easily when you’re reading? Music in a different language.

44. Favourite film adaptation of a novel? Hmmm I’m only ever critical of film adaptations if I’ve read the book first. Probably Tom Hooper’s Les Miserables, which is an entity in its own right.

45. Most disappointing film adaptation? Is there any doubt? The Golden Compass, which I was dragged to watch kicking and screaming and had me actually shouting at the screen in frustration. 

46. The most money I’ve ever spent in the bookstore at one time? £70, I think.

47. How often do you skim a book before reading it? I used to do this as a kid! I would skip to the last page and read the very last sentence or word, for a little thrill. I don’t do it at all anymore.

48. What would cause you to stop reading a book half-way through? Absolute boredom (On l’Appelait Tempete by Colin Thiele comes to mind) or irreconcilable anger at the message behind the piece. This rarely happens though.

49. Do you like to keep your books organized? More than organising them, I love to catalogue them, and have multiple catalogues on multiple apps and programmes. 

50. Do you prefer to keep books or give them away once you’ve read them? If I liked them, I almost always keep them - or lend them out and never see them again. 

51. Are there any books you’ve been avoiding? I don’t think I could ever read Z for Zachariah, by Robert O’Brien, again. It traumatised me as a kid and I’m uncomfortable just thinking about it. I don’t think I’ve ever truly avoided anything I haven’t read already.

52. Name a book that made you angry. Jared Diamond’s Guns, Germs and Steel - a very well-written book that markets the absolute bollocks notion that civilisations can ‘collapse’.

53. A book you didn’t expect to like but did? Les Liaisons Dangereuses - Choderlos de Laclos. One of the books that surprised me the most.

54. A book that you expected to like but didn’t? Breakfast at Tiffany’s. I suppose I didn’t completely dislike it - I can think of two sentences I really liked in it.

55. Favorite guilt-free, pleasure reading? Howl’s Moving Castle by Dianna Wynne Jones, and City of Bones by Cassandra Clare.
