15 and 27 for the soft asks! <33
15. Comfort food?
Gird thy loins it's like 4,000 things:
Sue Lewis chocolate first and foremost but I only get to have this like twice a year.
Homemade prawn cocktails (*sobs in I'm so whi-hi-hiiiite*)
Lemon and sugar crepes
Chips with chicken salt (no, not like shoestring fries, no, if you're not Australian you probably haven't encountered chicken salt, it's complicated, the Australians know)
Cadbury Black Forest chocolate (I literally ate some today, I wonder why... *stares at the US in commiseration*)
Good tiny mandarins
Good tangelos
Fresh pineapple
Actually a lot of different fruits we're gonna be here a while
Fresh apples and local honey (very pagan very yum)
Dim sum (yum cha)
A good bubble tea, especially the Okinawa that Presotea does
Whopper Junior from Hungry Jacks with heavy onion (and heavy pickle)
Ham + cheese + onion toasties
Iced Mocha
Strawberries + melted dark chocolate from San Churro's
Shio and tonkotsu ramen (and menma, lots of menma)
Those really nice korokke, the crab and cheese ones, from South Korea
That one sushi place in that one suburb that does the tuna sushi and it somehow manages to be the best thing I've ever had in my entire life
The cheesecake I had in England that one time
A good (good!) lemon meringue pie
(Remember when I said we were going to be here a while) Rice pudding
Chocolate mousse
Mum's chocolate self saucing pudding
Calippos in Summer
Pralines & Cream gelato from Gelare
...okay I gotta stop I GOTTA STOP
Mapo tofu
Bun bo hue with extra spice
OKAY I'M STOPPING
There's more though.
GOOD BREAD
HAha I promise I'm stopping
dslakfjsa
27. Do you like to garden? Have you ever grown something?
I love to garden! And I have grown many things. I am growing many things this year actually. I'm too disabled to do as much as I'd like to do. That part sucks. But because it's a passion of mine and it's so rewarding, I do prioritise it.
So my entire back garden was created from scratch, literally it was a sandpit because this house basically didn't exist until we moved into it. So xeriscaping / landscaping is something close to my heart. I typically focus on local native plants because of our fragile and specific ecosystem, for local pollinators, but as time goes by I've also fallen in love with many other plants from other climes and places too.
The front garden has more 'exotics' in it. This year, from seed, I'm growing dahlias, zinnias, Californian poppies, basil, snapdragons, poached egg plants, foxgloves, marigolds, spinach and cucumber. In the back garden in pots we also have karapincha (curry plant) given to me by my Sri Lankan sister-in-law, from her curry plant. I've kept it alive in a pot for about 15 years or so. I also grow aloe vera (more like I can't fucking kill it), citronella (begone!), lemongrass, rosemary, thyme, oregano, and sage (until it finally died this year). Also daffodils and gladiolus from bulbs.
I am super proud of my garden and its many changes. It's a good place to raise a puppy. It's a great place to watch the world go by. It was once sand, and now it's a haven of Eucalyptus trees for many different species of honeyeater and wattlebird. It makes up for the fact that I'm too disabled to go anywhere and do anything most of the time. Even if I only leave the house to do something other than a medical appointment about 4 or 5 times a year, at least the garden is there for me!

A3! Translation - Regional Tour Instablam Posts (Autumn Troupe)
Autumn was a little easier to do than Winter was... you’ll probably see why pretty quickly lol
Also, the like count on the posts seem to be completely random.  This isn’t important to the meanings of the posts, but I think it’s really funny that I’ve gotten Kazu posts with 0 likes lol
Also you can see here that I tried to vary the way they type out their tags in terms of capitalization and stuff!  That’s a purely stylistic choice on my part; there’s not much in the Japanese that implies for it to go either way

Notes:
1. This was 駅弁悩む (ekiben nayamu), which is literally “worry about the station bento,” but that sounded to me like he wasn’t sure if it would be good or not
2. Dotonbori is a popular tourist destination in Osaka!  Food is huge in Dotonbori, and Osaka in general, which you’ll see in a lot of the posts about it. The Running Man sign is an ad for Glico, the company responsible for Calpico/Calpis and Pocky!  The ad has been up since 1935.
3. Taichi says 好きやねん (sukiyanen) here, which is Kansai dialect for “love it”.  I normally don’t do anything funky with Kansai-ben, but if I didn’t it’d look like he was saying “I love Osaka. JK NO I DON’T” lmao so we had to do SOMETHING.  Shoutout to Moonlight for the simple suggestion!
4. Here Taichi uses the phrase 食い倒れ (kuidaore), which basically means “eat til you drop.  I had to change the TL a to “eat oneself to death” to make it sound ok, but it basically means the same thing, right? Omi’s “food binge” is also originally 食い倒れ
5. The standard tsukkomi retort in manzai as well
6. This was 新潟最高 (Niigata saikou), with 最高 basically meaning “greatest.”  I let myself have a little fun as a treat lol
7. Another name for Fukuoka

The Cheng Dynasty Hotpot Offers Unlimited Hotpot, Sushi, Buffet and Teppanyaki
Tumblr media
There's a new hotpot restaurant in Quezon City that's currently the talk of the town with its majestic interiors and luxurious hotpot menu that also includes a buffet and other premium add-on sets which makes its truly fit for royalty. The Hungry Kat was invited to try out one of the hottest new dining destinations in the city so I was more than ready to pay a visit to The Cheng Dynasty.
Tumblr media
The Cheng Dynasty is a new Szechuan and Japanese hotpot restaurant that recently had its Grand Opening just a few weeks ago. You can find it along N.S. Amoranto Street (formerly Retiro) near the corner of Banawe Avenue where a lot of foodies go to find great dining places. If the character in their logo looks a bit familiar, that's because the restaurant is named after one of it's owners - toy and sneaker collector, DJ, vlogger, scion of the country's biggest foam producer Uratex, and now restaurateur, Big Boy Cheng.
Tumblr media
The restaurant comes with an opulent but casual vibe, with most of the interiors in bright red and gold colors. There's plenty of tables for small and big groups, which is how a fun hotpot dining experience should be with.
Tumblr media
There's also a semi private room at the back of the restaurant which houses some of Big Boy's personal artwork and art collection. Big Boy Cheng is a very prominent art collector and his Ronac Art Center in San Juan showcases contemporary art and pop culture displays.
Tumblr media
The Cheng Dynasty Hotpot comes with several All You Can Eat options depending on your preference. The most basic set is the Terracotta (₱599) which offers their unlimited hotpot menu and is available from 11:00am to 5:00pm on weekdays and from 10:30pm to 1:00am daily.
Tumblr media
The first thing to do with hotpot is to prepare your sauce. The Cheng Dynasty has a station where you can customize your choice of ingredients, but you can also request for their special sauce if you're not sure what you like.
Tumblr media
Now it's time to try their hotpot! There's a time limit of two hours for each diner, but that's more than enough time to cook and enjoy all these delicious items from meats, vegetables, balls, and noodles. Just check the boxes of the dishes that you want to order and the server will bring these to you on a golden trolley.
Tumblr media
We ordered some of our favorite items like the US Fatty Beef, Lean Beef Tenderloin, Shrimp, Squid, Smoked Duck Breast, Beef Balls, Lobster Balls, Golden Cheese Balls, Crab Roe Bomb, Golden Mushroom, and more.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
You can also choose from their eight soup bases. The great thing about The Cheng Dynasty is that their hotpot bowls are all in individual sizes, so each diner can choose his own broth flavor. No need to share the pot with everyone else.
Tumblr media
I chose the Tonkotsu soup base which has a flavorful broth made from pork bones. Just put your hotpot ingredients inside the golden bowls and wait for them to start boiling. It's as easy as that.
Tumblr media
My husband ordered the Beef Sate soup base which comes with a meatier and saltier flavor. I really want to try their other flavors so I will surely do that on my next visit.
Tumblr media
If you are feeling really hungry, another menu option is their Weekend Terracotta (₱699) which is available for lunch on weekends and includes unlimited hotpot PLUS an all you can eat Buffet selection.
Tumblr media
It's rare to find a hotpot restaurant that also comes with a buffet, but The Cheng Dynasty lets you have all the tempura, tonkatsu, and chicken karaage that you want.
Tumblr media
There are also plenty of other cooked dishes like the Lo Ba Chinese Braised Pork Belly, shrimp sotanghon, egg fried rice, and more.
Tumblr media
If you want an even bigger buffet selection, head over to The Cheng Dynasty Hotpot from 6:00pm to 10:30pm for their Dinner Terracotta (₱899) where you can get unlimited hotpot and buffet PLUS as many trips as you want to the Sushi Station.
Tumblr media
Aside from the aburi sushi, truffle maki, mani salad rolls, and other sushi variants, you can also get unlimited servings of the premium Scallop Gunkan and the Hunan Style Spicy Salmon and Salad.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
If that is still not enough for you, then go for the Samurai (₱999) set which features all these unlimited hotpot, buffet, and sushi PLUS Unlimited Teppanyaki!
Tumblr media
Choose from among the following teppanyaki dishes that will be cooked upon order: Miso Butter Beef Enoki, Pork Yakiniku, Salmon Yakiniku, Beef Pinsu, Shrimp and Garlic, Yasai Itami, and even Angus Beef Chahan.
Tumblr media
I was already quite full so I wasn't able to try all of the teppanyaki options, so I'm surely coming back to sample these other tempting dishes. The Angus beef chahan will be first on my list next time.
Tumblr media
Now if all those delicious and sumptuous items still leave you wanting more, then go for the ultimate menu that is fit for an emperor. The Emperor's Feast (₱1,299) comes with all those unlimited items mentioned above PLUS unlimited Shao Kao and a single serving from their Star Selection. Shao Kao are Chinese skewers which are grilled upon order. You can enjoy a selection of unlimited barbecued meats, balls, and vegetables that will be served and cooked on a skewer. It' a different way to experience eating these items that are usually just served for hotpot.
Tumblr media
That's not all because the Emperor's Feast also lets each person get one serving of their deluxe Star Selection menu. You can order the Premium Sashimi Set which comes with salmon, ebi, and scallop sashimi. You can get your money's worth with just this dish alone.
Tumblr media
Another option is the Emperor Cheng's Dragon Roll which has a tempura roll topped with unagi and salmon roe.
Tumblr media
The Abalone in Chicken Essence with Crunchy Noodles is another premium dish you can order with your Star Selection. These exquisite abalone are beautifully plated on top of crispy noodles and doused with a special chicken sauce before being served.
Tumblr media
We were all so full and satisfied from our hotpot, buffet, and teppanyaki lunch at The Cheng Dynasty, but there was one more activity waiting for us. The owners of the restaurant also placed a small room inside the restaurant that featured their other passion, Drip Art! All About Art PH has a studio at Secret Fresh inside RONAC Art Center in San Juan where kids and adults alike can enjoy drip painting and art activities. They decided to put a small branch here so that guests waiting for their tables or those too full to leave can have another activity to share with the family.
Tumblr media
These DIY kits will give the artist inside everyone a chance to shine and sparkle. I had never done this kind of painting before so I was excited to have my first drip painting experience here at The Cheng Dynasty.
Tumblr media
First, choose your figure. The price of your DIY kit depends on the figure you choose and its size. Next, choose three different paint colors that you can mix together or separately on a bowl. Lastly, pour the paint slowly on the figure, making sure all the corners and crevices are covered. That's it! The staff will then box these since it takes a few days to totally dry. Drip painting is a great bonding activity that can be enjoyed with friends and family so check out their Facebook and Instagram @allaboutartph if you want to know more.
Tumblr media
The Cheng Dynasty Hotpot is truly a fantastic addition to the ever growing foodie destinations along Banawe Avenue and Quezon City. The luxurious interiors and the premium dishes will surely make you feel like an emperor yourself. I suggest you make reservations first before going because the lines can get pretty long, so send them a message and book your tables now.

Been craving Japanese food lately. These were the dishes from Dohtonbori. Beef pepper (?) — forgot the name hehe Okonomiyaki was tasty. Will definitely order this again the next time I visit.
Pork tonkotsu ramen was okay. Medyo salty lang for my liking. Ramen Kuroda pa rin for me kasi mas chewy ang noodles ng Kuroda. Tapos may egg pa haha
Katsudon — di talaga ako mahilig sa katsudon. Ewan ko ba pero goods din ito.
Prices at Dohtonbori are super sulit for the quality of the food you’ll be getting. Hindi ganon kapricey. Almost same price range sila ni Marugame Udon.
May japanese style seat pa sila sa restau kaya feel mo nasa Japan ka haha medyo mainit lang din the time we visited baka kasi dahil closing na sila. Thank you for still accommodating us!
Tumblr media
Now we’re talking… Katsu curry rice of Marugame Udon is the best also if you’re on a tight budget and can’t go to Yabu. This was around Php 280.00. Pero may nakita akong tipid hack sa tiktok hehe will try next time.
Katsudon — hindi po akin yan haha kasi nga di ako mahilig sa katsudon.
Yung deep fried crab sticks — forgot the japanese term — was good, kaya lang di na siya crispy. Baka matagal na siya nakadisplay. May mga spring onion leaves, crispy tempura bits, and condiments sila na unli refill!
The deep fried cheese sausage — forgot also the japanese term hehe sorry na — was tasty!! Nagustuhan ko to. Hindi OA yung cheesiness niya tapos ang juicy ng loob. Di na lang din ganon kacrispy pero masarap siya!! Will definitely order this again!
Matagal ko na talaga din pinaplano magMarugame Udon and finally nakapunta na haha best alternative to Yabu!

Happy 1st day of December! 🙌 @ramennagimanila has a very special treat for us Ramen lovers. I personally love these Three Kings for this month feature and I bet you would, too! 🍜Truffle King with earthy and musky flavor in the most festive way. The signature Ramen Nagi tonkotsu broth is further elevated with creamy truffle sauce. Layers of earthiness is in every slurp and bite, featuring smoked bacon slab, chashu slices, truffle oil, and fresh truffle slices bringing out the savoriness on your palate. 🍜Classic Crab King Experience the pure essence of the sea with the iconic Crab King Ramen, featuring pure crab sauce blended with the signature Tonkotsu broth, elevated with crab oil. The dish is garnished with a generous serving of pork loin, a bed of nori, and finally, spice-topped breaded soft-shell crab. 🍜Ebi King This ramen creation is a true delicacy straight from the sea. Char-grilled tiger prawns brushed with butter top a bed of thin noodles immersed in Tonkotsu Broth. The concoction is then loaded with all things shrimp oil, sauce, and powder as leeks, Tzatzik. Now available in all operating Ramen Nagi shops. Closed starter for @everyonesidolkiryu
Everything had changed. It had been only a few days, but it was like the sun had risen on a world that Majima no longer recognised. It had been so dark for so long. Without Sagawa’s hand no longer clutched at the back of his neck, he was lighter than air - and were it not for his newfound decision to be exactly the kind of asshole he’d always wanted to be, he’d have been swallowed up by it entirely.
Even Majima, quick as he was, was struggling to keep up with everything. Kamurocho was blinding, and though he could have sworn he was dead, he had never felt more alive. Brand new clothes shushed around his lean body as he strutted down the main streets of Kamurocho, scarce able to believe his own freedom. Make the most of it, he told himself, if it don’t last, ya got only yaself to blame.
Maybe he’d hit up the baseball cages like old times. Or go a couple rounds in the arcade. Or gorge himself on tonkotsu ramen until he puked up in an alley and then do it all again. He could do anything he wanted. Eye alight with the spark of promise that this fresh start had given him, the world was his oyster - or indeed, crab.
That was when, he spotted him, strolling toward him from the south side of town. Him. The name which had been driving him mad for the past few weeks, the mysterious rival in a deadly contest he hadn’t asked to be a part of. And yet, instead of a face in which he’d like to sink a fist, this one reached back through time and seized Majima by the gut - that one wild night. The one which got away.
Well, not this time.
“KIRYU-CHAN!!”
He started running - not away from Kiryu as he had all those years ago, but toward him like a stray bullet.

CUE! Translation: Yuzuha Kujo Lesson Talk [Tuesday Lesson] Story Translation
Tumblr media
Sorry for the possibly long post under the cut, but IMO this story should be read in one sitting.
Part 1
Tumblr media
Yuzuha: "Top 10 Driving Spots You Must Visit"… Heh, sounds fun~
Riko: Isn’t this travel pamphlet interesting? Driving’s really the best.
Yuzuha: Why do you have this?
Riko: I saw these pamphlets when I went into town, so I took one.
Yuzuha: How nice~ I'd like to go somewhere.
Riko: Then do you wanna go somewhere this weekend? I don’t have a car, but I do have my bike.
Yuzuha: Really?
Riko: Of course! I'll take you anywhere you wanna go.
Yuzuha: Yay, let’s go!
Riko: Aaalrighty, where should we go?
Tumblr media
Haruna: (Oh, Yuzuha-chan and Riko-chan are talking about something.)
Riko: Yuzuha, anywhere in particular you wanna go?
Yuzuha: I wanna take a tour of Tokyo.
Haruna: (How rare, they’re talking about going somewhere. Sounds interesting. I’ll eavesdrop for a bit.)
Riko: If you’re talking about sightseeing, then I think you should visit a temple.
Yuzuha: I wanna go over there, to Chenso-ji. [1]
Haruna: (...Huh? What? Chenso-ji?)
Riko: Oh~ That place, huh? Good choice!
Haruna: (R-Riko-chan… You understood that just now?)
Part 2
Tumblr media
Yuzuha: I've never been to Chenso-ji before.
Riko: I see, I see, I think it's a major thing. Surprisingly, there's a lot of people who haven't been there before.
Yuzuha: I wanna go to Chenso-ji!
Riko: Alright, let’s go!
Yuzuha: Yay!
Tumblr media
Haruna: (...The conversation keeps going?!)
Yuzuha: Say, what should we get for lunch?
Riko: Oh~ I know of a good restaurant in that area.
Yuzuha: What is it? Is it Japanese cuisine? Western cuisine?
Riko: It’s ramen. Do you like ramen?
Yuzuha: I like ramen, what kind is it?
Riko: Erm… What was it? Well, the broth’s white and the noodles are thin.
Yuzuha: Oh, I know what you’re talking about! I like that too.
Riko: I totally forgot what it was called.
Haruna: (You guys, it’s tonkotsu ramen! What do I do? Is it too soon to tell them?)
Tumblr media
Yuzuha: Wait, I remember now! Isn’t it called ponkotsu ramen? [2]
Haruna: (Eh!!)
Riko: Oh, yeah, that’s it.
Haruna: (Eeeeeeeeh?!?)
Part 3
Tumblr media
Yuzuha: I’m looking forward to the ponkotsu ramen!
Riko: It’s super delicious!
Haruna: (These guys are going seriously off-track, I should really put a stop to this.)
Riko: Once we finally get to the sightseeing area, should we buy gifts for everyone?
Yuzuha: Good! Let’s buy them gifts! Are there any shops that sell pretty accessories?
Riko: There’s a lot of shops, and they sell a lot of Japanese-styled accessories.
Yuzuha: Theeen, I wanna buy wonderful stationery for everyone as a present! Do you think they’ll be pleased with that?
Riko: I’d think so.
Haruna: (Yuzuha-chan looks really happy!)
Tumblr media
Yuzuha: Okay, let’s buy some stylish lottery sets for everyone! [3]
Haruna: (Lottery?! For all of us?! There’s definitely something wrong here!!)
Riko: I can’t wait for the weekend anymore! Should we just go now?
Haruna: (This is bad, I should go stop them.)
Yuzuha: YES!!
Riko: Go to Senso-ji, eat tonkotsu ramen, and then buy letter sets for everyone! We’re off!
Tumblr media
Haruna: ….Huh?
Yuzuha: Let’s go!
Haruna: Oh… They were communicating properly.
----------
TL Notes
[1] She says チェーンソー which is “chainsaw” (or in this case, チェーンソー寺/chainsaw temple). I decided just to romanize it to better match with Senso-ji.
For context, Yuzuha is a kikokushijo (children of Japanese expatriates who have done their schooling abroad) who has returned from France prior to the main story, but was born in Singapore and has moved from place to place all across the world. Because of this upbringing, she’s multilingual but is prone to making some mistakes as seen in this story. Have I mentioned she’s also filthy, filthy rich
[2] ポンコツ can mean “junk” or something that’s worn out (puns!).
[3] Yuzuha was meaning to say 手紙 (letter) but actually said 毛ガニ (horsehair crab). I wanted to translate this to something similarly ridiculous, so I went with lottery (ty proofreader ri for the suggestion).
Wow guys, a CUE translation not related to Satori! All that aside, this story is hella amusing and chaotic so I had to translate it and share it. Yuzuha is also cute and I’m declaring her my daughter.

Yuzuha Lesson Talk [Tuesday Daily] Part 3
Previously: Part 2.
Tumblr media

Riko: That place makes it real good!
Haruna: (They’ve gone completely off the rails. I have to do something about this...)
Riko: It’s not everyday we can go sightseeing. Should we pick up some souvenirs for everyone while we’re there?
Yuzuha: Bon! Good idea. They’d sell some cute little knick-knacks there, right?
Riko: Lots of places there that do, yup. Traditional Japanese trinkets and stuff like that.
Yuzuha: Thennn~ Let’s buy some stationery to give to everyone. Think they’ll like it?
Riko: Sounds good to me!
Haruna: (What a nice idea, Yuzuha-chan!)
Yuzuha: Alright, let’s get everyone some fancy wasabi paper!
Haruna: (W...wasabi paper?! That definitely isn’t right!!)
Riko: Oh man, the weekend is too far away. You wanna go right now?
Haruna: (Oh no, I have to stop them.)
Yuzuha: YES!!
Tumblr media
Riko: Alright, we’re going to Senso Temple, eating tonkotsu ramen, and buying washi paper for everyone. Off we go! [1]
Haruna: Eh...?
Yuzuha: Allons-y!
The two leave.
Haruna: Ah... They managed to understand each other after all.
Tumblr media
Fin.
[1]: Senso Temple is the oldest temple in Tokyo and contains 0 chainsaws [citation needed]. As for the stationery, Yuzuha originally confuses letters, "tegami" (手紙), with hairy crabs, "kegani" (毛ガニ).

After eating, I took advantage of the Pandora 50% off sale and bought a pair of heart earrings (that I’ve been wanting for almost two years) and two more charms to add to my bracelet (my pink theme is coming along very nicely hehehe). Spent $100 but happy regardless! Retail therapy at its finest.
For Canada Day, we went to downtown (Crab Park at Portside) to watch the fireworks but I have never breathed in so much weed in the span of merely four hours hfjshkg (I’m not kidding when I say that I inhaled more during this day than I did during the entire rest of my life dfkjhsgk bye) anyway guys don’t go to this park because it’s just.... a lot of weed and sketchy people who just yell at you for no reason -_- but what else did we expect from DT east side literally WHY did my dad take us here lmao.........  also the fireworks weren’t even that pretty wtf..... and it literally lasted for merely 15 minutes. Not worth it at all!!! I was not okay for the entire day because it was so frigging crowded everywhere and weirdos kept yelling everywhere -_- blehhhhhh I’m never gonna go out and celebrate Canada Day ever again!!!!! :-( I HATE PPL !!!!
