My very first art piece I did for Cerebral Palsy Awareness, inspired by @charisselwcp and this was just just the beginning. I would not only create other art pieces, but also make new friends who also spread awareness for Cerebral Palsy. Even used one of my designs for their first T-shirt @cp_dreamteam . Even though my artwork has improved, I am still very proud of the one that started it all.

March 19th,2020: We did it! Cappy and I filmed our video today for the @littlebit_trc Virtual Dressage Show! I’m so grateful to Mrs. Lisa and Nina for allowing me to enter and for everyone who helped out today! I couldn’t have done it without you! I found that I was really nervous when we first started filming, but by the second take everything was fabulous! I learned so much today and hope to use my new knowledge as I continue to perform. It’s amazing just how much changes in feelings affect my body and how I am able to sit on my horse! I’m planning on entering more shows later this year and riding independently! Cappy was such a star and the most perfect little show pony! I was so blessed to be able to have him as my partner today. It was such an emotional, amazing day and I know that this is just the very beginning of so many wonderful experiences on my journey to the 2028 Paralympics. Today i was reminded just how much I love to perform and I can’t wait to see where we ho next! . #cpawarenessmonth Sometimes with my CP, I find it difficult to appreciate my body as it is. When I’m on a horse, I forget about the limitations I have and feel like the greatest athlete ever. They have touched my life like nothing else. . Time to show support for National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month by wearing green! I find it alarming that many don't know what CP is. Hopefully all throughout this month we can spread the word and educate people. The most common misconception is that it is a disease. When, in fact, Cerebral Palsy refers to a group of disorders that affect different motor functions resulting in physical disabilities limiting body movement and muscle coordination. Conditions can be very mild to severe. Though we believe some causes are: brain injury during the birthing process (a stroke, in my case) , infection during pregnancy, and nervous system damage, we still need more funding for treatment. March 3rd, 2021: “My goal with the horse is not to beat someone; it’s to win within myself. To do the best job I can do and then tomorrow try to do better.” - Ray Hunt . Cappy and I had a fantastic lesson today! My body felt amazing and I am settling into the proper seat faster and feel much more relaxed when riding in general. I always grew up watching riders with the most perfect elastic flowing movement, following their horse. My body is finally starting to do this too and it’s amazing to see. I never thought I would be able to achieve this because of my disability. I also got to practice using the reins with Cappy again today and I’m getting better with it all the time! Cappy was such a good boy and I’m so proud of both of us today! 😊🇺🇸❤️🐴. . In other fun news Cappy and I are going to be entering in the @littlebit_trc Spring 2021 Virtual Dressage show! I’m really looking forward to it and this is going to be a great stepping stone while Shane and I continue to perfect FEI Novice Test A together. I also hope to re-enter in the USEF virtual judging program later this year! . March is #cpawarenessmonth and I wanted to take a moment to express how much horses have changed my life as at first a late adolescent and now a young adult living with Cerebral Palsy. This disability is prominently characterized by an inability to relax the muscles due to high tone as a result brain damage. Horses have drastically improved the way my body functions and have allowed me to feel more comfortable in it. I remember before I started riding I would spend some days feeling like my body was completely locked and tense. The natural input from the horses movement is an instant muscle relaxer. This is one of many reasons why #equineassistedtherapy is so important for people with disabilities. I will speak more on other benefits horses have provided me in later posts this month. March 17th, 2021: “Take pride in how far you have come and have faith in how far you can go.” . When I’m riding, I often forget to smile because I am so focused on what I am doing. So I’m going to challenge myself to express my happiness outwardly more often, just like I am in this picture, and just like the quote says it is important to pat ourselves on the back for all that we have done and believe that we can achieve our wildest dreams and beyond. . Cappy and I got to rehearse our test for the @littlebit_trc virtual dressage show in a 20 x 40 arena today and it went awesome! Cappy was such a good boy and I’m especially proud that I got our halts right on the mark 😊 I’m so pumped to film our test on Friday and I’m excited to show you guys what we look like all dressed up! I’m going to practice using my elbows more at home before Friday, but other than that I feel confident that we’re going to do really well. This is just the beginning of so many more shows and tests to come and I’m really looking forward to the future ❤️🐴😊🇺🇸 . #cpawarenessmonth because my CP makes it difficult to walk, I often spend most of the day in my wheelchair because it’s how I get around and get things done. I love my chair, but sometimes I want to experience the world a different way. Horses give me that opportunity. They give me freedom and a chance to see things from another perspective.
