A secret I keep tucked inside my chest
Here is my story for @mlbigbang!
Summary:
At 22, Marinette Dupain-Cheng and Adrien Agreste, better known as Ladybug and Chat Noir, navigate the complexities of their dual lives. A year into their relationship, they balance their duties as Paris's guardians and as parents to their spirited daughter, Emma.
However, beneath Marinette's resilient surface, the trauma from her encounter with Chat Blanc lingers, casting shadows over her newfound happiness. Despite their deep bond, Chat Noir remains unaware of the full extent of Marinette's turmoil, as well as her identity as the mother of his child.
Their worlds collide in an unexpected twist of fate when Marinette and Adrien meet as university students, oblivious to each other's alter egos. As they forge a connection in their civilian lives, Ladybug struggles to keep her worlds separate, especially with Emma's safety in the balance.
Prologue:
She wasn’t sure what made her go to the bakery first, but as she landed on the balcony, everything in her screamed not to go in. That whatever was beneath her was better left unseen. Nothing in this world mattered. It wasn’t her reality. So whatever she saw was never going to happen to her. None of this was real.
With a steady hand, she lifted the window and slipped into the room. Everything on her bed looked exactly how it was in her world. The cat pillow was still resting at the head of the bed. Her cubed star lamp was in the corner of her shelves, but the books had fallen over or were lying half open on the mattress. Crawling over, she peered over the edge.
She gazed at the familiar scene, now altered with an unexpected addition.
Everything still looked the same, but a crib was now near the chaise. By the sink was a changing table, and baby toys and play mats floated in the water that covered the floor.
Ladybug’s mind couldn’t comprehend what she was seeing. The humming in her ears grew louder as she climbed down the ladder. Her vision felt blurry and unfocused, but she was still seeing everything perfectly clear.
It was real.
None of this was real.

Dusty Saddles and Muddy Boots

____________________________
Hyrule's vast plateaus, treacherous mountains, shimmering lakes, and dense forests were nothing short of breathtaking. Each morning, when the sun rose, painting the land in brilliant gold and tawny hues, and when the birds would wake from their slumber, chittering elaborate love songs, Link would take a moment to simply breathe.
He would take in the sights, sounds, and smells that made him feel at home no matter where he was, whether atop Death Mountain in the scorching heat or in the calm, cool water pools of Zora Domain.
Zelda was much the same, but now she tried to immerse herself in Hyrule's diverse nature more than ever. Having been cooped up in the castle for much of her childhood, and even in her teenage years, made her yearn for freedom, and to go where she pleased. Now, a hundred years later, she had it. She had that freedom, and that idea scared her.
She hadn't the slightest idea how she should go about it. How does one get in touch with the vast expanse of land that is Hyrule? She had Hylia's blood for heaven's sake, so it should come naturally, yet it evaded her. She had tried. Oh, she really did. She went for a walk one morning through some of the thick underbrush of the woods and spent a week covered in poison ivy blisters. Another time she had tried to study some local flora, and disturbed an enormous hornet's nest. She ran in circles around the woods screaming until she bolted back to Link's house, slammed the door behind her, and decidedly declared that she would be staying inside for the rest of the week.
Link had found her attempts endearing, and a bit humorous, but he was determined to let her have her fun. So, one early morning in Hateno, while the dew still clung to the grass, he brushed, fed, and tacked both of their horses, then tied them up out front, where Zelda was curiously watching.
She walked over to stroke her horse's nose and run her fingers through his blonde mane. "There's a good boy." She turned to look at her knight. "Link, where are we heading to this early in the day?"
Link was busy tying some sleeping mats and canvas rolls to his steed's saddle, along with their large travel tent, and pillows. "Wherever you'd like, princess. We're taking a vacation."
Her ears twitched as she tried to contain her excitement, and play it cool. "Oh? First I've heard of it."
"It's a surprise of sorts. You've been dying to get out and explore Hyrule, so we're doing just that." He gave his mount a pat on the neck, and a puff of dust rose up, making him cough. "Epona, you need a bath." He muttered, then turned to Zelda, who was now smiling warmly. "Grab anything you want to bring from the house. We'll be gone for a while. Oh, and I already tied your sleeping mat to Blanc's saddle" He said, walking over to the white stallion, and giving him the same pat on the neck. No dust, thankfully.
Touched by the gesture, Zelda rushed up to him, wrapping him up in a bone-cracking hug, in which she ignored Link wheezing out "Sweet Hylia, Zel… I can't breathe…" She gave him a quick peck on the cheek before letting him go. He sucked in a lungful of air, now free of Zelda's vice grip. "You are truly the sweetest man I've ever known." Hardly able to contain herself, she gave him two more kisses, one on the opposite cheek, and one on the tip of his nose. "I'll go get my things." She practically bolted inside the door of the house, eager to pack up and leave, leaving a blushing, starstruck Link in the front yard.
They were on the trail by the next hour, heading for Lake Hylia. Zelda had suggested they do some lakeside stargazing, before circling the large body of water and heading into Faron Woods. They still had yet to come up with a solid travel plan, but there was no rush. They had all the time in the world to spare, and they could simply make adjustments as they pleased.
They were halfway to the lake when they stopped to give the horses a much-needed break. Zelda removed the bridle from Blanc, and he opened his mouth wide, stretching his facial muscles. "We don't want to run them ragged, or we'll never make it." Zelda said, bringing a small wooden bowl full of water to Blanc's lips. He finished the entire thing in no time, then joined Epona, munching on tall, juicy stalks of grass in the field.
Zelda laid the bridle on top of their bags and grabbed her rolled-up blanket, laying it out over the softest patch of grass she could find, before plopping down onto her back, gazing up at the few clouds that traveled the sky. "I could just sit here and stare for hours, Link. We haven't even made it halfway through our first day." She giggled.
It was a sound that made Link's heart run in circles. "You'll see plenty more, Princess, I promise. I know the entirety of Hyrule like the back of my hand." He joined her on the blanket, sitting up with his head on his knees, looking out at their horses, grazing to their heart's content.
"With how much you ventured, I don't see how you couldn't. You've seen so much. All of Hyrule is so gorgeous, I can't imagine a place you didn't like."
Link frowned as he thought about that crazy flower lady who looked like she was going to throttle him for stepping on her precious flora. He didn't want to spoil Zelda's happiness. "Not really… It's all pretty nice." The smile on her face made it all worth it to Link. What he'd give to see that every day, so they sat in the field, talking to their heart's content until the sun began to dip low in the horizon.
They made it to Lake Hylia a few hours later. Zelda had wanted to set up the tent for them since she was in need of practice, and she wanted Link to go ahead and bathe in the lake since he had smelled like a dusty horse for most of the day. "And for the love of Hylia, take Epona with you. I just watched her roll in a mud puddle." She said, pointing at his steed, who covered head to hoof in brown, yucky muck.
Link screeched, and ran to snatch his horse out of the wallow, waving his arms at her frantically. "I haven't even taken her saddle off! Epona, no! No!" Zelda was laughing until she was breathless, watching him try to yank his unbothered horse out of her cool, and refreshing mud puddle. Link too found himself in the sloppy drink when she pulled her head back and dragged him in with her.
Zelda sucked in a long breath, almost on the verge of tears. "Oh, dear. Now he really needs one. Both of them do." Blanc trotted over, eyeing the two in the mud, then nickering low at Zelda, and she gave him a sweet kiss on his forehead. "Don't worry, my sweet boy, you're still as fresh as daisies." He whinnied warmly.
Link finally managed to pull Epona out and away from the puddle, and led her to the water. He had found a secluded spot, surrounded by dense bushes, and a large tree, where he could strip down and wash them both clean. He undid her saddle, which was now absolutely caked in mud and clay. "This is your good saddle too…" His clothes were the same way, though he didn't mourn them as much. They were nothing but simple hiking clothes and roughed-up boots. With a drawn-out sigh, he kicked the clothes aside, and led his horse, by her reins, to the crystal clear waters of Lake Hylia. Link shivered when he took his first step in, and Epona grunted in displeasure. "You wanted to roll around in the mud, now get in here." He punctuated with a tug, and she begrudgingly waded in, splashing at the water with her hoof. They didn't stop until Epona was submerged up to her neck, and now she was closing her eyes in contentment and pleasure. Link was swimming to stay afloat, ducking under to rinse his hair clean. When he came up, he splashed water at his horse's face, knocking off most of the dried mud, and she glared at him in displeasure.
They waded for a while until their ears perked up at the sound of footsteps approaching them. Zelda walked to the edge with a towel, and a change of clothes in hand, and she saw the two of them soaking in the waters. Link only had the top half of his head about the water, eyeing Zelda with a curious look, and his ears twitched slightly. "Hello!"
Epona exited the water to greet her, shaking herself off in a great spray of water that Zelda shielded the dry clothes from. "Hello, you two. I've brought a towel, and your night clothes." She said, laying them by the tree. She patted Epona on the neck before she pranced off to join Blanc in the field, leaving Zelda and Link alone. "Good to see you're both no longer painted brown." She chuckled.
Link rolled his eyes. "She'll be dirty again by tomorrow morning, probably. It's like she detests being clean. At least she's not bright white like Blanc."
"Oh, she probably will be. You two are just alike, you know. It's cute." As much as she wanted to sit and talk, she had to admit that she had begun to smell like a horse too, a smell she wasn't all too fond of. Not on her, at least. She clapped her hands together. "Alright, my turn. Out of the water with you, then."
Link sighed, and, instead of getting out, pushed himself out further into the water with a splash. "Yeah, but I kinda like it here. Might just stay. You're clean as it is, and you weren't the one covered in mud."
"I'm all sweaty from putting up your tent."
"Our tent."
"I smell like a horse."
"A clean horse."
She huffed with her hands on her hips. "Out with you."
"Hmm… nah." He splashed some water in her direction.
Zelda dodged the small spray that managed to reach her, and she sighed. "No, huh?"
"Nope." Link closed his eyes and sunk back into the water.
Zelda smirked, and began to step up to the water's edge, the edges of her shirt in hand. "Alright, Hero, have it your way." With one swift motion, she pulled the fabric off her body, and dropped it to the earth, leaving her in her pants and boots.
Link, hearing the ruffling of cloth, squinted his eyes open momentarily before practically choking on a gasp, then turning around. "Zelda!" He yelped, ears flushed red.
She unclipped her boots and kicked them off, one nearly landing in the water. "What? I'm taking my bath now, so you'd better move it." She undid her belt and allowed her pants to fall as well before toeing out of them. "Or you can stay right there, your choice." She said, and the sound of the final piece of clothing falling to the ground made Link's heart nearly stop.
"Alright! Alright! I'm getting out!" Link's ears, as well as the rest of his face, were now flushed red as he jumped out of the water, making Zelda cover her eyes, biting down on her lip as she tried not to cackle, and he headed for his towel, sighing at the warm, plush cotton enveloping his body. "Goddesses… Can't wait a moment can you?" He said, still turned away from the water.
She was now floating on her back, eyes shut, while the ends of her short blonde hair were floating up in the water. The water felt so cool and revitalizing, and she let out a groan as her muscles loosened. "Hmm, stay out here any longer and you'll get a sunburn, you know. Better head back." She said, ignoring his mocking.
Link was ruffling his hair dry with the towel, and he came out of it looking like some spiky-feathered baby bird. He tossed it around a low-hanging branch and began to dress in his soft night attire. "I'm gonna serve you charcoal for dinner. Making me leave my nice comfy bath." Zelda only giggled, and Link left to set up supper.
The first stars of dusk were just beginning to pop up in the sky by the time Zelda was done bathing. The water had started to cool to the point where she was getting goosebumps, so she decided it was time to get out and see how far Link had gotten with their dinner. Zelda found him setting up some plates on a blanket in the grass, where they could gaze at the stars as they began to slowly fade into view in the sky. The smell of freshly cooked mushroom skewers and pork on rice drifted around her, and it smelled lovely, enough to make her stomach gurgle. When she got there, she also saw he had made fruit cake as well. "You remembered it's my favorite!"
"I'd never forget, Zel. You hardly ate anything else for dessert." He chuckled, and Zelda held that beautiful, fluttering sound close to her heart. She got closer, and quickly ruffled his hair, then smoothed it down, and he gave her a confused look.
"It's still all spikey from the water." She smiled.
The food that Link cooked rivaled that of the royal cooks in the castle a hundred years ago, and Zelda wondered why the hell her father didn't make him the head chef instead of her personal knight. She couldn't complain, but all those delicious dinners, lunches, and desserts he could cook just made him all the more admirable.
Both of them had been hungry, and most of the food was quickly scarfed down, along with the fruit cake, which Link was able to grab a small piece for himself before she consumed it.
Now, full and happy, they both lay back on the blanket, looking up at the sky. Zelda let out a small, undignified burp, and Link chuckled, happy to see her losing some of her formality in his presence. They gazed up into the obsidian sky above, watching the stars twinkle their hellos as the final, dimmest stars appeared in the sky, and Link listened intently as Zelda began to point out and list the planets in the sky above them.
A sudden, faint memory rose at the back of Link's mind. "Remember the constellations you showed me before? In the castle gardens?" He wasn't all too familiar with the constellations, but he remembered being out in the gardens one night with Zelda, listening to her name each of the patterns in the sky, and pairing them with strange, and magical stories. When he looked up, he saw only stars, dotting the sky with their beauty and wonder, and he pointed to a small cluster above them. "Anything up there that you know of?"
Zelda pointed up too, tracing out a pattern in the sky. "Talios, the great bull. His story says that he ran nonstop across the land for ten years searching for his son, Letrus, who is… right over there, to his right." She pointed out another to the left. "Oh, and Septera, the serpent. That's one of the largest constellations in our sky!"
Her knowledge of these little things made Link smile happily. He was no longer looking up, but he had rolled into his side, watching Zelda point and chatter happily about the stars in the sky. Before the calamity, she had been much the same, filling up those silent moments with her knowledge of absolutely everything, and Link was relieved to see that she had not changed one bit. She was the holder of the Triforce of Wisdom, after all.
She kept on for a moment until she glanced over and saw him watching her with a smile on his face. "There's also the rabbit, Lepus, and I think over there is- what? What are you smiling at?" She blushed.
"You. You seem happy to be out here. Like, truly happy."
She glanced away, wondering if it was possible to get any redder. "It beats sitting cooped up in Hyrule Castle, only able to read books about how gorgeous the land is. It's nice to be able to see it without having something on my shoulders for once." Zelda rolled onto her side too, mirroring him. They were now so close that their body heat seemed to warm the small space between them, that or the heat from their constant blushing. Zelda got lost in those deep cerulean eyes of his before she cleared her throat and spoke. "Link? Thank you for, well, all of this. You have no idea how much this means to me. It's more than I could ever ask for."
"You're welcome, Princess. This won't be the only time, I assure you."
"Truly?!" She squeaked.
"Without a doubt." Link's ears twitched slightly as a low rumble made the crickets in the grass go silent, glancing up, he saw the stars on the horizon begin to disappear behind a dark curtain of clouds. Rain was on its way. "Ah. So much for stargazing. Sorry, Zel."
A cool breeze washed over them, chilling the air, and Zelda hugged her arms together for warmth. "We'll have more chances for stargazing, don't worry. I think this was a fabulous first night." She shivered slightly. "Oh, it is getting colder. We'll both need our heavy blankets by midnight."
Something instinctive began to run through him, something protective, yet loving. Without thinking, and running purely on a joyful high, Link languidly extended his arms, moving himself a bit closer to Zelda, and began to curl himself around her, searching for any sign of discomfort. The last thing he wanted was to make her dream trip uncomfortable.
Zelda was a little startled by the sudden gesture, but that warm and comforting aura surrounding Link was all too inviting, and she quickly scooted right up to him, nudging her head under his chin, and wrapping her arms around his torso, letting out a heavy, content sigh. "Thank you. I was starting to shiver."
"Anytime, Princess." Both of them closed their eyes, and the tension in their bodies faded as they melted into each other. Link reached up behind her and placed a hand in her hair, scratching slightly at her scalp, and she let out a pleased groan. Her hair felt like silk to him, so fluffy and soft, and he momentarily wondered if that was the reason all his shampoo at the house had been running empty twice as fast.
Zelda looked up at him. "Yeah. Yeah. I've been using your stuff. I can't help it, it smells nice." Link just huffed a small laugh as he gazed at her, and saw she was looking intently. His ears twitched in question, and Zelda answered. "Your eyes are the most gorgeous blue. I've never seen anything like it." She admitted.
Oh, how he loved hearing that from her. "And yours the most beautiful green, Princess." Link kept his gaze fixed, then let out a little hum of wonder.
Zelda questioned what had him transfixed. "Hmm?"
"Your eyes… if you look closely enough, they're blue too. Just around the middle, like turquoise."
"Oh wow, I thought I was the only one who noticed. You… are the first to come close enough to find out, I guess." Her voice got quieter to the point where she could hear her heartbeat in her ears. "Careful, look any deeper and you might start reading my thoughts."
Whatever space was left between them, Link began to close in on, scooting forward until their bodies were pressed together. "Yeah? And what would they be saying?"
She broke their held gazes for a moment, looking mildly somber. "That we might be in over our heads."
"But we're happy." Link breathed, and inched ever so closer, eyes darting down to Zelda's lips, and back. "Finally happy, right?"
Zelda felt their fingers interlace. His hands were callused, worn from use, yet so gentle. "More so than I've ever been, Link." He just gave her a content smile and a silent moment lingered between them, before Zelda rolled her eyes, having had enough. "Oh, c'mere you-" She reached around, and with a swift tug to his scruffy hair, brought them crashing together, and all their concerns faded in a rush of euphoria and they both thought to themselves "Goddesses, finally…"
Link cupped her face in his hands, and kept her close, terrified that if he lost her, he would wake up from some cruel dream, and she'd be gone. Zelda wanted him to hold on, for the same anxiety-driven reason. She would tell herself over and over, in the late hours of the night, she'd do it all again if it was all for him. She let out a quiet moan that spurred him on all the more, and he let his tongue barely cross her lips before he pulled back, watching her breath heavy. "Easy, Zel, we've got all night."
Zelda suddenly sat up, and he tried to do the same, before she placed a hand on his chest, pushing him back to the ground so she could jump on top of him, and straddle him. "That we do." She breathed before pressing her lips back into his, and he groaned loudly. Zelda was positive she felt her heart skip several beats.
She began to kiss him on every spot she could manage, placing feather light pecks down his jaw, the column of his throat, and pushing his tunic down ever so slightly to reach his collarbone, where she began to leave marks with heated, open-mouthed kisses. Link could hardly take it, practically a groaning, panting mess by the time she had left a second mark, sure to bruise in beautiful violet shades. He breathed shakily, "Zelda-!" and she pulled back, smiling at how disheveled he looked at that moment.
The marks on his neck were just turning a deeper shade, and his hair was tousled, the band keeping his little ponytail in place long since fallen out, letting his blonde hair float free. Zelda was just about to make a smug comment about it before she was abruptly cut off by the feeling of something moving slightly between her thighs. Link suddenly blushed furiously, his whole face, and ears, turning crimson. "Uh…" She almost didn't realize she was holding her breath, amazed at the effect she alone had on him. Oh, how the night was going to turn in a whole new direction. Zelda gave him a shit-eating grin, and snickered lowly, making Link more turned on than he ever had been in his life. "Sweet Hylia." He covered his face with his hands, unsure of how long he was going to last if this kept up.
Zelda bent down, ready to kiss him senseless again, but something cold and wet suddenly hit her nose: a little water droplet, which dripped off the tip of her nose, and onto Link's tunic, and they both looked up at the sky, which was now completely overcast with dark gray rain clouds.
"Oh no…" Their ears both pricked as the distinct sound of the pitter-patter of a rain curtain crossing the lake kept getting louder and louder, and they froze as they both realized that it was about to start pouring. "Shit!" Zelda scrambled off of Link, who was still doing his best to not completely lose his mind, and they rushed to gather all their plates, and the blanket before they got soaked.
Zelda tried to stack the plates in her hands and carry them all at once. She dropped two of them and fought to keep her balance. She barely kept from dropping one more. "The blanket… the blanket, Link!" The rain had already reached them at this point, and Link was doing his best not to drag it in the dirt. He flinched as he heard something else crack behind him, and he eyed Zelda. "Sorry!" She yelped.
Blanc and Epona were watching their riders panic from a distance, nestled underneath a large, dense-leafed oak tree, and Epona nickered slightly as the sound of the rain lulled them both to sleep. Zelda and Link, on the other hand, were not having such a peaceful experience.
"Shit. Shit! Shit, shit, shit-! They gave up and ditched the blanket, now making a run for their warm, sheltered tent, as it continued to rain down, with no sign of stopping. It was a crazed experience, and halfway to their tent, they began to burst out in disbelieved laughter, and Link nearly tripped, making Zelda snort.
They burst into the tent, sending water flying. They were drenched and disheveled, and they took a glance at each other before descending into laughter again, breaking through the sound of the rain on the fabric of their tent. Zelda ran a hand through her soaked hair. "Well, we almost had a romantic evening."
"It's never a normal day with us, is it?" Link added, as he wrung the water out of his shirt, which hardly did anything.
"Well, at least it's not boring, hmm? She shook her hair, which was now curling up at the humidity, and Link laughed as he got sprayed. She kicked off her mud-laden boots into the corner, then walked over to Link, who was about to rid himself of his shirt.
She pushed his hands up, and grabbed the edges of his shirt, tugging it slightly. "Now, where were we?" Link smiled and gave her a quick kiss before she pulled up, and took the soaked garment off of him. Free of his tunic, he too shook his head, discomforted by his wet hair, and Zelda shielded herself and squeaked as he sent water droplets in every direction. "Link!" Link just giggled shyly.

The Sum of A Creative & Financial Refusal
For having been refused every possible creative path in social creative constructs he was given approximately £144 per week to make up for his loss of a respectable livelihood. £10 was for electricity. £40 was for internet and entertainment. £50 was for food and approximately £5 was for cleaning his laundry. This left him with roughly £40 per week to save and spend how he liked. He was attempting to save for a lightweight tent that could get him through four seasons but saving was slow and his plans over the past two years had been delayed because of this. Next year he would purchase a lightweight tent with a lightweight sleeping bag, a mat and some cooking equipment and he would manage to cover the Mont Blanc charity route he had been training for since November last year. It was now the beginning of August and no sponsors had yet responded to the begging letters he had sent out. His charity page was up and running but the only donation he had received was a £10 donation from himself. 1% of a £1000 target sum was better than zero percent of a £1000 target sum.

Green Walls: A Vertical Garden Concept For A Peaceful, Natural Setting
As the world is constantly pushing for ways to create healthier environments, the popularity of green walls is on the rise. Vertical gardening systems in Australia are not just a way to bring a portion of nature to your commercial spaces, but they also highlight the healthy side of greenery. Today, green walls can be seen in many office settings in Australia because of the myriad benefits they offer.
Where Did the Concept Come From?
To be true, a green wall is not quite a new concept. The concept of vertical gardens was laid in 1937 by Stanley Hart White, an American scientist, as per the Landscape Architect’s Network. Further, Patrick Blanc, a French botanist, designed the modern-day green walls that comprised a fully functional hydroponic system.
What are Green Walls?
A green wall is a wall which is covered with actual plants attached to some growing medium. To flourish, a vertical garden wall requires a built-in irrigation system to water the plants on a regular basis. This is because it’s practically impossible to water the plants in a green wall in the conventional manner – using a hose or watering can. Except for a few smaller vertical gardens that make use of real soil, the majority of green wall systems grow on some other types of growing medium, such as a framework of spaces holding the growing medium or mats of coir felt or fibre. The former is perhaps more efficient due to its greater water holding capacity.
The Benefits of a Vertical Garden System
Undoubtedly, green walls are visually extremely attractive and help make a statement in any setting. A vertical garden, regardless of size and type, offers a dramatic look and a natural feel that is nearly impossible with potted plants. The concept of greenery covering the entire wall creates a very unique ambience. The dominance and size of a green wall help evoke the sense of being in a lush meadow. Visitors and employees tend to be more relaxed in an atmosphere that features a green living wall owing to the soothing effect of nature. It offers a breathing space to employees who spend hours indoors, particularly in offices with no windows.
As aesthetically appealing as they appear, vertical garden walls offer some health benefits to commercial and office spaces. Green walls act as a natural air-filtering system which helps create a healthy work environment. Living plants are capable of lowering the levels of gases like carbon dioxide and removing air pollutants like benzene, VOCs, formaldehyde and nitrogen dioxide. Similar to other plants, green walls help control humidity while reducing the amount of dust in the air.
The advantages of living garden walls are not just limited to enhancing the ambience and improving air quality. According to research, natural surroundings can significantly enhance attention and focus in kids with attention deficit disorder. Moreover, gardens are scientifically known to help patients recover faster.
A significant reduction in noise levels within buildings is another key advantage of installing vertical garden systems in Australia. Plants are capable of blocking sounds, so when they are added to a vertical surface, they provide an additional layer which absorbs sound waves. The quieter atmosphere – without the clatter and echoing steps you typically hear in offices – is much more calming that aids in improving focus and attention.
Yet another significant advantage of vertical garden walls is better business for organisations and increased resale value of properties. A number of studies have shown that plants in and around a property can increase the real estate value by as much as 20%. So, even if your building lacks a captivating outdoor area, covering the building with greenery may help enhance its value.
Moreover, greenery in malls, restaurants, shops and other types of retail spaces are known to enhance foot traffic. Similarly, studies suggest that hotels that incorporate plants and gardens into their buildings observe higher occupancy rates. These studies simply substantiate that vertical gardening systems walls have a plethora of beneficial effects on the wellbeing of everyone visiting the space.
For businesses, living green walls in Australia may also save energy costs. A wall featuring living plants can cool down the air within the building during summer. This effect is the result of a process, known as evapotranspiration, in which moisture gets transferred to the atmosphere. Evaporation occurs when water vapour leaves the surface of soil or plants. Transpiration, on the other hand, occurs when the water travels from the plant’s roots through its vascular system. During the winter months, the plants in vertical gardens help insulate the space, which cuts down heating costs.
Exterior Green Walls
Green walls on the exterior can phenomenally enhance the visual appeal of a building. In an urban setting, which is typically characterised by bricks, stones, metal and concrete, the idea of a vertical structure covered with greenery is a sight to behold. Furthermore, such appealing additions are quite an effective way to improve city areas, which not only makes urban life easier but healthier too.
When it is about the exterior of a building, green walls have numerous advantages. Installing a vertical gardening system on the sides of a building can cool the surrounding area and lower noise levels. Research suggests that exterior vertical gardens can lower the wall temperature by up to 50° F. On the outside, it can keep the adjacent streets cooler and, on the inside, it lowers energy bills.
Exterior green walls have the potential to lower air pollution as depicted by a study at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany. Skyscrapers along either side of a street create a corridor that is called “street canyon.” The scientific modelling by German researchers revealed that green walls installed in such a zone can trap a considerable amount of particulates and nitrogen dioxide gas.
Final Words
Regardless of the place of installation, green walls are an efficient way to create a productive work environment or an appealing retail environment. Besides being eye-catching, living green walls in Australia offers numerous health and cost benefits.

Superior Iron Man x MCU Spiderman, because I am a fucking Whore. That is all
"Frankly, I'm impressed," Iron Man says off-handedly, back facing towards Peter as he continues to decant the bottle of Cheval Blanc in hand into a glass-- his only acknowledgement of the arrival of an uninvited guest being this praise. "How'd you manage to get through the high security protocols on the way up, Spiderman?" Raising the glass of red wine to his lips and downing it in a single gulp, the man sighs contentedly before turning around to face the figure stood in the centre of the room.
"I climbed," Peter replies, and gives himself a mental pat on the back-- he only detects the slightest waver of fear in his voice-- but suddenly realises that perhaps confronting an enemy in their own million-dollar penthouse isn't such a great idea. Still, there's no going back now. He clutches at the back of a chair as support; watches warily as Stark pours himself another drink before offering the glass out to him. Peter stares at the outstretched hand, mind racing. Is this a joke? It probably is, right? To be greeted by a repulsor blast straight to the chest-- that's expectable when dealing with villains like Iron Man; to be offered booze? Not so much. "N-no, I'm not old enough to drink," he says, immediately regretting the words even as they leave his mouth.
Peter's never quite hated himself more than in that very moment, but Stark, on the other hand, just can't contain his hilarity at the entire situation anymore; he lets out a loud bark of laughter, shoots a feral grin over the rim of his glass that has Peter's stomach flipping violently. "Ooh, well aren't you a righteous spirit through and though, Peter Parker?"
And he does falter then-- feels his knees wobble and threaten to give out underneath him, the blood pounding through his veins turning cold. Despite himself Peter takes a slight step backwards, attempts to hide the rising fear choking him with controlled words instead. "You know my name?"
Clicking his tongue in faux disappointment, Stark shakes his head, swallows another mouthful of liquor-- Peter's eyes reflexively track the bob of his prominent Adam's apple, before he quickly snaps his gaze back up to that chiselled face. "You're hurting my feelings here, kid," Iron Man chuckles, and Peter flinches as he slams his glass defeaningly onto the island table. " 'course I do-- I know you're still a junior at Midtown High, I know all about your tragic backstory before you became a crime-fighting vigilante. I know all of your dirty little secrets, and not just yours but just about everyone else's in this goddamn country, too-- I. know. everything," the man says, speaking in a slow, lazy drawl even as his piercingly blue eyes sweep over Peter in a way that has the boy's skin crawling and cheeks flushing warm-- thank god he'd kept his mask on, at least. "And I'd let you in on a little secret, sweetheart: knowledge is power."
Try as he might to not let the condescending pet name affect him, Peter can't help but squirm a little at that singular word alone; Stark's sharp gaze pins onto him, corner of his lips curling upwards into a knowing smirk, and Peter hurriedly attempts to steer the conversation back to what's at hand. "So you must know why I'm here, then."
The older man doesn't reply immediately. He instead leans against the kitchen counter, arms crossed over his chest; he would have looked almost languid, if it weren't for the slight tightness in his defined jaw giving him away. For several moments Stark silently examines him-- and Peter, not willing to let himself be intimidated, meets those icy blue eyes head on; chin raising a little defiantly as the older man continues to pick him apart with only an intense gaze.
Finally, he pushes himself off the edge of the counter to cross the room in two long strides; stalking so close Peter has to crane his neck to look at him-- and from this much nearer the boy just can't help but notice the flecks of silver glinting among dark hair, the grey stubble dusting Stark's neatly trimmed goatee. Peter swallows, hard; fuck, but the man seems so much bigger in his armour, the metal encasing his entire body a startlingly sleek white and Peter absolutely should not be salivating at how impossibly broader it makes his shoulders look.
He startles when Stark finally breaks the charged silence to say flatly, "you're not a fan of Extremis 3.0, are you?"
"No, I can't say I am."
"Well, I can't say I'm surprised." Tony stares down at him, and with his back to the windows shadowy darkness shrouds all his features-- all except for his eyes, electric blue and drawing Peter in despite himself. "Let's just say that you and I, Parker-- we're different. People like you would never understand, appreciate the true potential behind an idea this big."
The cold undercurrent of Stark's tone is what finally snaps Peter out of it. "I don't have to understand it," he says, heart slamming against his ribcage so forcefully he hears it in his ears. "To want to stop it."
For a long, tense moment, silence stretches out between them like a string pulled taut--
Until it snaps. With an animalistic snarl Stark lunges forward, and Peter only manages to duck just in time; gasping, he aims his webshooters at the other's legs-- or at least, attempts to, before a large hand encircles his arm to shove him backwards. Stumbling on his feet, Peter struggles uselessly as he's manhandled up against the marble walls of Stark's living quarters-- insides twisting with fear as he catches the glint of those canines under the florescent lights.
"Please," the gasp for help reflexively slips past his lips, and Stark gives another one of those cruel laughs of his again; patronizing, grating against the ears. The metal grip around his upper arm tightens to the point of painful, brings tears to his eyes, but Peter refuses to let them fall-- he stares fully back at the man before him instead, who seems to delight in this.
"Begging already, sweetheart?" he croons, reaching up with another hand to caress his mask-covered cheek, gauntlet metal cold and unforgiving as a thumb drags under his jaw to curl around the edges of his mask. "Don't you think it's rude to wear this as a guest at someone else's home?" Stark hums, then with one sharp yank he pulls the fabric off Peter's face-- cold air hits his tear stained cheeks, and he's not given the time to even gasp in surprise before armoured fingers are hooking underneath his chin to tilt his face upwards; his head knocks against the wall behind.
Is it just the tears blurring his vision, but do Stark's eyes seem to be glowing? Glinting, perhaps, with something dark and almost feral as they drag hungrily over every inch of his exposed face. Peter writhes under the hold, but it's unyielding, and all he manages to achieve is the man stepping forward to bodily cage him against the wall-- Stark's armoured chest pinning him down, broad thighs forcing his legs apart.
Their noses mere inches away from each other, the man sighs appreciatively, "oh, you're much prettier when not on a holo-screen."
This was a bad idea-- unarguably his worst one ever. Peter is trapped, helpless, held up against a wall and an absolute madman; he knows when to drop his pride. "Please let me go," he whispers, forcing himself to make eye contact instead of hiding his face-- he can only imagine how wrecked he looks, cheeks a ruddy pink and streaked with tears, matted lashes tangling as he blinks back more. Stark ignores his plead, tilting his chin this way and that; eyes seemingly devouring him whole. "I won't tell," Peter lies, flinching slightly as the man cups his cheek. "I promise I won't."
A long exhale of breath escapes Stark; for a split second amusement shows plainly on his features, before that same darkness takes over again. "Tell... what, exactly? And who, the police? I'm sure they can keep a secret for me," the man says. Then he tilts his head, as though pretending to think it through. "You're going to have to raise your offer, pretty boy."
"I--" Peter gasps, finally tearing his gaze away as he feels the tips of his ears burn; why does hearing an unhinged villain call him pretty in that gravelly voice affect him so much? "I don't--"
"Don't worry, I'll give you some time to think it through," Stark says smoothly, his signature arrogant smirk hanging off his lips now. "In the meantime, how 'bout I share another little secret with you, hmm? Just between the both of us," his voice dips into a low growl, head dropping forward until the sharp curve of his nose brushes against the flutter of Peter's lashes; Peter can almost taste the alcohol on the older man's breath.
"Well, here goes nothing: I have a... thing, for pretty little boys like you," Stark drawls, chapped, cold lips mouthing along Peter's jaw, thumb and forefinger still gripping onto his him so tight he hears a creak. "Y'know, those with the innocent doe eyes, always pleading, always biting on their lips..." A thumb drags roughly over the abused flesh of his red bottom lip, forces his jaw open and slips its way inside his mouth; Peter tastes the tang of metal across his tongue, cold and slippery, and can no longer suppress a loud sob. He squeezes his eyes shut in humiliation as it bursts forth from his lips-- feels Stark groan, shudder against him.
"Oh sweetheart, how'd you know I love it when they cry?" is the final growled confession against his ear; then fingers are twisting in his hair to slam his head backwards against the wall, and blinding pain shoots through his skull-- then everything fades to black.

Khan and Leila sit at a trendy San Francisco restaurant. It's one of those hipster, free of everything places with industrial chic decor - dark wood and stainless steel accents, dimly lit pendant lights hang from the open ceiling that exposes the girders and pipes.
Leila sighs, "No dairy...no gluten...no meat...no fun. What am I even supposed to eat here?"
Khaan chuckles softly. "I promise the food is excellent here, but if you find your meal inedible, we can pick up some fast food on the way home.
"You agreeing to fast food? Leila arches her eyebrows. "You must be pretty confident I'll like it."
And turns out, Khaan is right. She hates to admit it to him, but her savory and aromatic tofu, kale, and quinoa bowl is quite satisfying and delicious despite the fact that she can’t identify half the grains and vegetables in it. They laugh and talk without any lull in conversation. Khaan stretches out his legs under the table and their feet intertwine. They clink their glasses of Sauvignon Blanc together and toast to normalcy. After all they've been through, Leila wouldn't trade these simple moments for anything.
Khaan signs the reciept and slips it inside the servers check holder book. "Do you mind if we head back now? I know it's early, but I want to get back to say goodnight to Hamza and tuck him into bed.
Leila reaches a hand across the table and squeezes his hand. "Of course not. That means we can get to bed sooner...if you know what I mean."
Khaan laughs and shakes his head. "I know where your priorities lie...good thing they match up pretty well with mine."
Its been an adjustment being with someone with a child, but Leila knew what she was getting into. Khaan's love for and devotion to Hamza is part of what drew her to him. It's not always easy having to share his time and attention, but she's beginning to love Hamza as her own. She happily accepts them as a packaged deal.
When they arrive home, Khaan pays the sitter and and takes Hamza to bed. Hamza negotiates an extra bedtime story, like most nights.
Just as things quiet down, Leila hears Hamza call out from his room. "Leila, come in here!"
Leila jumps up from the couch to see what he wants. "Yes, Hamza?"
"Come see my glow in the dark T-rex pajamas!" Hamza lifts up the covers and Leila peeks underneath.
"Those are so awesome, buddy!" Leila pats the soft hair atop his head.
Hamza opens up his arms. "Can I have a hug?"
Leila smiles warmly. "Of course."
Some time later, Leila and Khaan settle into bed. She’s been looking forward to some alone time with Khaan all evening. She rolls onto her side facing Khaan and presses her hips into him. He threads a hand into her brunette locks and draws her in for a kiss, his satin lips standing in contrast to his rough stubble. She’s about to start undressing him when she hears pounding on the door.
“Daddy!” Hamza cries and Khaan pops out of bed to open the door. “I had a bad dream.” Before Khaan can even respond, Hamza scurries over to the bed and climbs in, positioning himself dead center. “I’m too scared to go back to my room. Can I sleep with you?”
How can Khaan say no to that face? She knows she couldn’t. It has been just the two of them for so long, Hamza didn’t even have to question before if he was welcome in his dad’s bed, and she doesn’t want to take that away from him while he’s still so young. Khaan looks to Leila apologetically, but she shrugs it off. “Okay buddy, but why don’t you scoot over, and I’ll sleep in the middle.”
“But I want to sleep next to both of you! Please?” Hamza looks back and forth between them expectantly.
Leila is touched that Hamza has taken to her so freely. She can’t imagine how much his life has been changed since she’s come in the picture, and he’s accepted it all so well. “Okay, but try not to hog the covers this time.” Leila jests as she climbs in next to him. “I suppose this is what King size beds were made for.”
Thirty minutes later, Leila is finally drifting towards sleep as Hamza is lying diagonally pushing both her and Khaan to the edges of the bed with only a sliver of blanket to cover them. Nevertheless, she wouldn’t have it any other way.
*****
Leila rolls over and shuts her alarm off. She's confused as she looks through sleep dusted eyes to different surroundings. She's not at Khaan's place, but her own apartment in New York and the spot on the bed next to her is empty and cold.
"Damn, another one of those dreams," She mutters out loud. Dreams so realistic she finds them difficult to distinguish from real life, even after she wakes. It's been over a month since they took down Eros and almost just as long as she saw Khaan. They had spent two incredible days and nights together while Hamza was still back home with Soo-Jin, but then Khaan had to fly back across the country. Despite their connection, Khaan had still been hesitant to bring another woman into Hamza's life, so Leila had no choice but to go back home alone. She's casually been looking for jobs in San Francisco, just for an excuse to be in his life in some way, even just as friends.
It's not that she hasn't maintained a friendship with him since, but they've been careful to not get into anything too deep, both knowing if they cross the line again, there would be no going back. Leila sends him funny memes or pictures of her terrible food choices. Khaan sends her inspirational meditations and recipes for kale and wheatgrass smoothies. She's not a fan, but she's made a couple just to feel closer to him and definitely makes sure to send him photo evidence when she does.
Leila had thought over time the feelings might fade, but if anything, they are stronger than ever and the dreams aren't helping. She'd had one right away when she got back home and then another a week later. They progressed to every few days and the one prior to this was just two nights ago. She's not sure if it means something or if she's just going crazy and needs to see a therapist.
Over the next week she dreams of Khaan nearly every night. In one, they are sitting on a park bench watching Hamza play in the sand pit. The warm sun is beating down on her. A calm breeze crosses her face, bringing the scent of the Lilac bushes in bloom nearby. She feels the weight, and smooth skin of Khan's hand in hers.
In the next dream, she and Khaan are in his guest bedroom turned yoga studio and meditation room after Hamza's gone to sleep. Khaan is giving her a one on one lesson. Khaan’s favorite sandalwood incense is wafting through the air and the only illumination comes from candle light. His hands positioning her send shivers down her spine. Heat pools in her core as her presses his firm body flush against hers into perfect alignment. The lesson quickly turns from PG to X-rated and after a lengthy session, they lie back on the yoga mat, almost too spent to get their clothes back on and go to bed.
On Friday night, her dream is a little different. She isn’t at Khan’s place but her own apartment. The details are a little fuzzier, but Khaan is there and he pulls two plane tickets out of his pocket, and is about to say something when they are interrupted by a knock on the door. Neither moves to answer it, but whoever is behind the door keeps knocking. Leila is jarred away and she realizes the knocking is real. She throws on her robe, smooths her hair, and is flabbergasted when she peers through peep hole.
As soon as she gains her composure, she swings the door wide open. “Khaan! What the hell are you doing here?”
“I wanted to suprise you but, I was hoping for a bit of a warmer welcome.” Khaan laughs nervously. He’s got his hands in his pockets and he’s not carrying any bags.
A wide grin takes over Leila’s face. “Get in here,” she commands as she pulls him in by the lapels of his navy blue peacoat. He immedialtely encircles her in his arms and kisses her passionately. The kiss goes on and on until Leila decides she needs to know why he’s there. “We can get back to that in a bit, but what made you decide to fly thousands of miles to suprise me on a whim?”
Leila moves to sit down on the couch and Khaan follows. “It wasn’t exactly a whim...on my part at least. I’ve been thinking and mediting on this for weeks, and my path became clear. Have you ever hear of lucid dreaming?”
“I’ve heard the term, yes, but I don’t know much about it.” Leila replies.
“Well, meditation can bring on a state of mindfulness that can produce vivid, lifelike dreams that can help guide you to answers you seek in everyday life. I haven’t stopped thinking of you since we parted, but you know Hamza is my number one priority. I needed to make sure I could envision you fitting into our life. Leila, I dreamt about you nearly every night this week, and I know it’s right. I need you in my life, if you’ll have me.”
Suddenly the pieces fit together and she wonders..., but no, that would be crazy. She decides to ask anyway. “I too have dreamt about you every almost every night. Does Hamza have glow in the dark T-Rex pajamas?”
Khaans jaw drops. “How did you know- Those are brand new. He didn’t have them when you stayed with us.”
“I think I've been having lucid dreams as well and I didn't understand what was happening until now. I could see, hear, smell, taste, and feel everything as if I were awake. Going on dates, with you, the park with Hamza, private lessons in your yoga studio.”
Khaan’s cheeks flush slightly and then his whole face lights up. “This is extraordinary. I’ve heard when two people are spiritually connected, they can experience shared dreams, but I never imagined I’d find that connection with anyone...not until you, but I was just too scared to give in...until now.”
"Do I dare call this Kismet?" Leila grins cheekily.
Khaan takes both her hands in his. "Call it fate, destiny, whatever you want, as long as you say you’ll come with me. I know it’s a lot to ask, but-”
“Please, Khaan,” Leila interjects. “You could have asked me back in D.C. if I’d come then, and the answer would have been the same then as it is now. One hundred percent yes."
Khaan cradles her cheeks and kisses her passionately again. “You may have noticed I didn’t bring any luggage.”
Leila smiles knowingly. “Is that because you have two plane tickets in your pocket?”
Khaan furrows his brows in confusion but then pulls the tickets from his pockets. “Now this is getting creepy.”
“I guess our connection doesn’t end when we wake. Didn't want to give me a chance to think too much about it did you?"
Khaan shrugs his shoulders. "I had faith that you'd know, and if you had to think about it or said no, I'd wouldn't want to stick around any longer than I had to. I can exchange your ticket for a later date if you need more time to get your affairs in order, but I need to get back to Hamza."
"I can just grab the essentials now and come back and deal with the rest later. I'm not letting you get away again." She wraps her arms around his waist.
Khaan presses a kiss to the top of her head. "You know, our flight isn't until later tonight if you wanted to reenact one of those dreams before you start packing."
Leila wastes no time standing up and pulls Khaan with her towards the bedroom. "Follow me. I know just the one."

Pineapple Upside-Down Layer Cake
1. Coconut Cake
INGREDIENTS 115g unsalted butter (softened - 1 stick - 8 tablespoons) 260g sugar (1 1/4 cups + 1 tablespoon) 50g packed light brown sugar (3 tablespoons + 1 teaspoon) 3 eggs 110g buttermilk (1/2 cup) 75g grapeseed or other neutral oil (1/2 cup) 5.5g vanilla extract (1 1/4 teaspoon) 185g cake flour (1 1/2 cups) 5g baking powder (1 1/4 teaspoon) 4g kosher salt (1 teaspoon) 150g shredded unsweetened coconut (1 1/2 cups)
YIELDS: 1 quarter-sheet pan of cake
METHOD
STEP 1 - Heat the oven to 350°F. Pan-spray a quarter-sheet pan and line it with parchment paper, or just line it with a silicone baking mat.
STEP 2 - Combine the butter and both sugars in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment and cream together on medium-high for 2 to 3 minutes, until light and fluffy. Scrape down the sides of the bowl halfway through this process, and again at the end of it.
STEP 3 - Add the eggs, one at a time, beating on medium-high for 1 minute after each addition. After you add the last egg, scrape down the sides of the bowl, then beat on high for 4 more minutes. Scrape down the sides of the bowl again.
STEP 4 - Combine the buttermilk, oil, and vanilla extract and with the mixer on medium speed, stream them into the cake batter very slowly. It should take you approximately 3 minutes to add these liquids. Scrape down the sides of the bowl, increase the mixer speed to medium-high, and paddle for an additional 2 to 3 minutes, until the mixture is practically white, twice the size of your original fluffy butter-and-sugar mixture, and completely homogeneous. Don’t rush the process. You’re basically forcing too much liquid into an already fatty mixture that doesn’t want to make room for that liquid. There should be no streaks of fat or liquid. Stop the mixer and scrape down the sides of the bowl.
STEP 5 - Whisk together the cake flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.
STEP 6 - With the mixer on very low speed, slowly add the dry ingredients and mix for 45 to 60 seconds, just until your batter comes together. Scrape down the sides of the bowl, then mix on low for an additional 45 seconds to make sure no lumps of cake flour get left behind.
STEP 7 - Add the coconut and mix until just combined.
STEP 8 - Pour the cake batter into the sheet pan and, using a spatula, spread the batter in an even layer in the pan.
STEP 9 - Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, rotating the pan front to back halfway through baking. The cake will rise and puff, doubling in size, but will remain slightly buttery and dense. At 30 minutes, gently poke the edge of the cake with your finger: the cake should bounce back slightly and the center should no longer be jiggly. If it doesn’t pass these tests, leave the cake in the oven for an additional 3 to 5 minutes.
STEP 10 - Let the cake cool in the pan on a wire rack or, in a pinch, in the fridge or freezer (don’t worry, it’s not cheating). The cooled cake can be stored in the fridge, wrapped in plastic wrap, for up to 5 days.
2. Maraschino Cherry Soak
INGREDIENTS 20g pineapple poaching liquid (1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon from next recipe) 20g grenadine (1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon) 10g buttermilk (2 teaspoons) 10g whole milk (2 teaspoons)
YIELDS: 60g (1/4 cup) of soak
METHOD
STEP 1 - Whisk everything together in a small bowl. Use immediately.
3. Poached Pineapple
INGREDIENTS 1 pineapple peeled and cored and quartered lengthwise 225g water (1 cup) 190g sauvignon blanc (the cheap stuff...3/4 cup + 2 tablespoons) 100g sugar (1/2 cup) 1 Thai long peppercorn (or a few white peppercorns) 2 green cardamom pods 0.5g vanilla extract (1/8 teaspoon)
YIELDS: 1kg - 1 pineapple’s worth
METHOD
STEP 1 - Heat the oven to 350°F.
STEP 2 - Lay the pineapple quarters flat in a large (approximately 3 1/2 -quart) Dutch oven.
STEP 3 - Whisk the water, wine, sugar, peppercorn, cardamom, and vanilla extract together and pour the liquid over the pineapple pieces. They should be almost completely covered with liquid, but it’s okay if some of the pineapple sticks out a little bit above the liquid.
STEP 4 - Cover the pot and bake for 2 hours. They’re done when they turn a deep yellow and you can slide a paring knife through them with ease.
STEP 5 - Remove the pineapple from the oven and let them cool completely before using in a recipe. Keep them stored in their poaching liquid, in the refrigerator. (Reserve some of the liquid for the maraschino cherry soak.) They will keep for up to 2 weeks.
4. Pineapple Upside-Down Frosting
INGREDIENTS 60g yellow cake mix (1/4 cup +1 tablespoon) 370g of the poached pineapple (12oz) 200g unsalted butter softened (1 3/4 sticks - 14 tablespoons) 115g confectioners’ sugar (1/2 cup + 3 tablespoons) 2g kosher salt (1/2 teaspoon) 0.5g citric acid (1/8 teaspoon)
YIELDS: 650g (3 cups) of frosting
METHOD
STEP 1 - Heat the oven to 250°F. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
STEP 2 - Spread the cake mix on the lined sheet pan and bake for 20 minutes. Cool the toasted cake mix completely before using.
STEP 3 - Meanwhile, puree the cooled, poached pineapple in a blender and strain it through a fine-mesh sieve (discard the solids). Measure out 275g (1 1/4 cups) of the puree. If you don’t have enough, puree a little bit more until you get this amount. Set the puree aside.
STEP 4 - Combine the butter, confectioners’ sugar, salt, citric acid, and the cooled toasted yellow cake mix in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment and cream together on medium-high for 6 to 8 minutes, scraping the bowl down once to make sure there are no butter lumps, until the mixture is smooth and fluffy.
STEP 5 - With the mixer on low, stream in the pineapple puree and continue creaming until the puree is fully emulsified and the frosting is smooth and fluffy again.
STEP 6 - Use the frosting immediately or store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week. If you store it in the refrigerator, be sure to loosen it up before using, otherwise, it will be impossible to spread. The easiest way to do this is by putting the frosting in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment and beating it on medium speed for 3 to 4 minutes.
5. Yellow Cake Crumbs
INGREDIENTS 290g yellow cake mix (2 cups) 45g unsalted butter melted (3 tablespoons)
YIELDS: 335g (2 1/2 cups) of crumbs
METHOD
STEP 1 - Heat the oven to 300°F. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
STEP 2 - Combine the yellow cake mix and the melted butter in a bowl and toss, using a spatula, until the mixture starts to come together and form small clusters.
STEP 3 - Spread the clusters on the lined sheet pan and bake for 20 minutes, tossing halfway through. Your kitchen should smell like buttery heaven. Break up the crumbs and toss them around while they are still warm. Cool the crumbs completely before using.
STEP 4 - The crumbs will keep in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer for up to 1 month.
6. Cake Assembly
SPECIAL EQUIPMENT 16-inch cake ring 2 strips acetate (each 3 x 20 inches)
METHOD
STEP 1 - Put a piece of parchment paper or a silicone baking mat on the counter. Invert the cake onto it and peel off the parchment or mat from the bottom of the cake. Use the cake ring to stamp out 2 rounds from the cake. These are your top 2 cake layers. The remaining cake “scraps” will come together to make the bottom layer.
STEP 2 (LAYER 1, THE BOTTOM) - Clean the cake ring and place it in the center of a sheet pan lined with clean parchment or a silicone baking mat. Use 1 strip of acetate to line the inside of the cake ring.
STEP 3 - Put the cake scraps together inside the ring and use the back of your hand to tamp the scraps together into a flat even layer.
STEP 4 - Dunk a pastry brush in the maraschino cherry soak (or use a spoon) and give the cake a good, healthy bath of half of the soak.
STEP 5 - Spread one-half of the poached pineapple chunks in an even layer over the cake.
STEP 6 - Use the back of a spoon to spread one-fifth of the pineapple upside-down frosting as evenly as possible over the pineapple
STEP 7 - Sprinkle one-third of the yellow cake crumbs evenly over the frosting. Use the back of your hand to press them lightly into the frosting, anchoring them in place.
STEP 8 - Use the back of a spoon to spread one-fifth of the pineapple upside-down frosting as evenly as possible over the crumbs.
STEP 9 (LAYER 2, THE MIDDLE) - With your index finger, gently tuck the second strip of acetate between the cake ring and the top ¼ inch of the first strip of acetate, to make a ring of acetate 5 to 6 inches tall, high enough to support the height of the finished cake. Set a cake round on top of the pineapple upside-down frosting (if one of your cake rounds is jankier than the other, use it here in the middle and save the prettier one for the top).
STEP 10 - Repeat the layering: soak, pineapple chunks, pineapple upside-down frosting, cake crumbs, and pineapple upside-down frosting.
STEP 11 (LAYER 3, THE TOP) - Nestle the remaining cake round into the frosting. Cover the top of the cake with the remaining frosting. Give it volume and swirls, or do as we do and opt for a perfectly flat top. Garnish the frosting with the remaining yellow cake crumbs.
STEP 12 - Transfer the sheet pan to the freezer and freeze for a minimum of 12 hours to set the cake and filling. The cake will keep, well wrapped in plastic, in the freezer for up to 2 weeks.
STEP 13 - At least 3 hours before you are ready to serve the cake, pull the sheet pan out of the freezer and, using your fingers and thumbs, pop the cake out of the cake ring. Gently peel off the acetate, and transfer the cake to a platter or cake stand. Let it defrost in the fridge for a minimum of 3 hours. (Wrapped well in plastic, the cake can be refrigerated for up to 5 days.)
STEP 14 - Slice the cake into wedges and serve.

Best Things to Do in Paris
As the world once again becomes our playground, many of us feel compelled to enjoy the outdoors as much as possible. Here in Paris, that is a good impetus to follow, since most indoor venues now require you to show a vaccine passport in order to enter. This is true of museums, cafes, restaurants, theaters, cinemas…well, you get the picture. Lucky for us, Paris remains one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Beyond the obvious splendors of the Eiffel Tower and the Sacre-Cœur Basilica, Paris has a wealth of sites and experiences to offer.
And others, like Le Village St.-Paul, and the nearby basketball courts, the Terrain de Sport des Jardins St.-Paul, both in the Marais, make you feel like you’ve discovered a hidden nook of Paris all your own each time you stumble upon them. The Village St. Paul is recently renovated and is now an exquisite labyrinth of quaint shops, casual restaurants and bars and simply just quiet spaces where you can catch your breath underneath the shade of a tree. It was once the private gardens of King Charles V, but that was centuries ago. Likewise historical, and not to miss noticing, is the original old wall of Paris built in the 12th and 13th centuries by France’s then King, Philip Augustus. Today, it still fortifies one side of well-used open-air basketball courts of the Marais. In other words, you can both shoot hoops (or jump rope or stretch or do open-air calisthenics) while taking in one of the oldest exposed monuments of historical Paris.
The Parc Rives de Seine is another popular destination for families and sporty types, or even just people looking for a nice outdoor walk along the Seine or a place to picnic by the river. On warm spring, summer and fall evenings, you’ll find groups of friends enjoying bottles of wine or beer al fresco or ordering a beer at one of the many food stalls there.
New to the Parisian façade is La Samaritaine. Or, I should accurately denote, all things old become new again since this iconic department store in the Chatelet district of the 1st arrondissement is now fully refurbished and open again for business. It’s the LVMH group who undertook this project, which lasted for nearly a decade, and the architecture shows its modern bent. For architecture buffs and shopping enthusiasts, it’s a must-see.
In Paris, it pays to just wander because many Parisian gems and treasures can be found along a meandering path. Some of these treasures, such as the covered passage of Galerie Vivienne, are found right under your nose as you walk the city’s charming streets. Its main entrance is tucked in just behind the Palais Royal and once you enter into this covered passage, you feel yourself instantly transported through time.
One last reassurance when exploring the city: When your feet get tired of walking, there is a boat-bus service, the Batobus, that you can hop on and off. It motors you from the Eiffel Tower to just past the Ile St. Louis by riverway, and back again, if you so choose.
Getting outside these days can feel like something of a privilege. Who would have thought? But here we are. So, in honor of maximizing that privilege, these are outdoor basketball courts open to the public where you can shoot hoops and otherwise do open-air calisthenics. The kids from the high school across the street are often here playing on their sports hour, but there are many hours when there isn’t a single soul inside this expansive sports terrain. It’s a great place to bring your yoga mat and do some stretches, or a jump rope and get a vigorous workout. If you have some buddies you can shoot hoops with, go for it. The baskets are yours for the playing. While you’re here, don’t forget to notice the 12th century wall that holds up one side of the encircling façade.
Recommended for Best Attractions & Activities because: The great outdoors! Even in the heart of the Marais, you find these hidden oases where you can play, sweat and absorb some culture, too.
Paige’s expert tip: Come here for the outdoor exercise venue, stay for the history lesson… Right here on an ancient street in the Marais are these fabulous outdoor basketball courts. The playing field is large enough that if you want to do calisthenics like jump rope there’s plenty of room off to the side without getting in the way of the game. Be sure to notice the ancient wall to your right as you enter. It is one of the only remnants of the historic Paris city wall that once encircled what was then the outer limits of the city. It dates back to the end of the 12th c., beginning of the 13th c and was built by King Philip Augustus to protect against the threat of a pending Richard The Lionheart invasion.

Though not strictly an attraction, the Batobus is more than just river transportation along the Seine. A hop-on, hop-off shuttle between the major Paris monuments that’s easily accessible from the Seine, it’s nice to ride the Batobus for the sheer pleasure of seeing the city from a different perspective. And while the Bateaux-Mouches and the other wonderful dinner and cocktail Seine river cruises are experiences many rave about (rightly so), this little Batobus-that-could offers the same views at a fraction of the price – dinner and cocktails not included, of course. It’s a family friendly transportation option for getting around the city. Its stops are all along the river, of course. These strategic stops are at areas which make visiting the Louvre, St.-Germain des Pres, the Marais and Latin Quarter and the Eiffel Tower/Trocadero areas very convenient by foot.
Recommended for Best Attractions & Activities because: Paris, when seen from the river Seine, is even more beautiful. And that goes for day and night.
Paige’s expert tip: Hop on and hop off all day long. Or buy the 2-day pass and make the River Seine your main method of transportation to see many of Paris’s landmark sights.

The area along the Rive Droite (right bank) riverfront that was once a thoroughfare for cars, stretching from the Tuileries tunnel to the Henri IV tunnel, is now a pedestrian zone. You can either start at Hôtel de Ville and head east toward the Bastille, which is a shorter walk but will take you along the stretch where the eateries are, often packed with people on the weekends. Or you can head west, still along the Seine, towards the Pont des Arts which will take you along some of Paris’ most beautiful sites such as the Conciergerie, the Pont Neuf and Île de la Cité. It’s a win-win and, either way, will leave you refreshed. An equally beautiful walk awaits you on the Left Bank side of the Seine. Optimally, start from the Pont Alexandre III and walk towards the Eiffel Tower, allowing for plenty of pauses along the way.
Recommended for Best Attractions & Activities because: These green spaces and pedestrian areas along the riverbanks are well-loved, especially by the kids. They get packed in the warmer months with fun-loving crowds.
Paige’s expert tip: After big meals and sugary treats, the best thing to do to maintain equilibrium is to take a nice long walk outdoors. Start just under the Hotel de Ville (Paris’ City Hall) where you’ll find a children’s playground, a swing set, some water fountains and the Batobus ticket kiosk. From this point, you can walk West towards the Pont des Arts, or East towards Pont Sully. Either way, you’ll encounter eateries, refreshments, shady places to sit and picnic tables. No cars, the gorgeous River Seine, and some of Paris’ most beautiful landmarks await you on this walk.

Founded originally in 1870 by Ernest Cognacq and Louise Jay (namesakes of the famous Cognacq-Jay Museum) this Parisian landmark is once again alive. Fully refurbished top-to-bottom, its entire 70,000 square meter, 10 floors of luxury goods, French culinary treats, artistic installations and beauty day-escapes are now all yours for the taking. One of the façades, the most modern one, fronts onto the rue de Rivoli, giving this little Pont-Neuf neighborhood of Paris the sleek LVMH imprint. But other parts of the building were maintained to preserve its Belle Epoque appeal. The building takes up a whole city block and then some. There is also the Cheval Blanc hotel that is adjacent to this department store (also LVMH owned). This department store is well-equipped to deliver whatever you might need for person or home. Clean-lined furnishings are for sale, along with china, kitchen appliances, and bedding. Men’s and women’s fashions guarantee something stylish to wear, and cosmetics let you put your best face forward. Sportswear, a bookstore, a pet department, and children’s clothing, toys, and accessories are available as well. METRO: Pont Neuf
Recommended for Best Attractions & Activities because: Beauty day-escapes, including one devoted solely to reshaping your eyebrows, gourmet cafes and, of course, luxury shopping are all here. Paris at its finest!
Paige’s expert tip: This is Le Shopping destination now in Paris. Closed in 2005 as a safety hazard, Parisians have waited over a decade to be able to once again frequent this Belle Epoque, beloved department store. And LVMH, the new owner and instigator of the renovations, certainly has delivered. The splendor of the interior is barely grasped by its exterior, so, by all means, go inside and enjoy!

The Sacré-Coeur Basilica, also known as the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, is blessed with its location in Paris. At the top of a huge hill in Montmartre overlooking the city, large steps cascade down the hill on one side, the basilica’s white domes looming up in magnificence behind them. Head inside the Sacré-Coeur to experience this sacred Catholic cathedral, built in 1876. With its high point at the top of the Montmartre hill, plus its gleaming white stone exterior, Sacré-Coeur Basilica is an amazing sight to behold from a distance as well, and views of it can be seen from many different points in Paris.
Recommended for Best Attractions & Activities because: The Sacré-Coeur sits like a majestic white lady, regal and pure, at the top of the Montmartre Hill, otherwise called the Butte Montmartre.
Paige’s expert tip: The steps are great for sitting on with a loved one or friends. Music performers are often playing and you’ll have an impressive view of the city spreading out below.

Named for Louis XIV’s confessor, who once lived in the vicinity, this cemetery was established in 1804. It was planned as a repository for human remains when authorities sought to improve sanitation by moving graves from the center of the city to its outskirts. Now park-like in its appeal, Pére Lachaise is a much-desired place to be buried. Within its bounds are the graves of Moliére, Oscar Wilde, Heloise & Abelard, Jim Morrison, Frédéric Chopin, Edith Piaf, Sarah Bernhardt, Marcel Proust and other famous figures. Stately trees and beautiful memorials add to the cemetery’s present-day calm. The area surrounding the cemetery is also something of a budding bohemia. Many young families have flocked to the 20th arrondissement in recent years for its wider streets and bigger, more affordable apartments.
Recommended for Best Attractions & Activities because: Can you really come all the way to Paris and not pay tribute to Jim Morrison’s grave?
Paige’s expert tip: Schedule a whole day if you want to explore the entire cemetery. There are a whole 110 acres to cover and many famous tombstones to hunt down, in addition to Jim Morrison’s and Oscar Wilde’s.

This gorgeous architectural gem, completed in the 17th century, is located in the city’s Faubourg Saint-Germain region. It was created by Louis XIV, the Sun King, as a home for aged soldiers and disabled/injured veterans. Among its prominent features are a sweeping esplanade, a series of gardens, and a striking domed church, where Napoleon I and other military heroes are interred. One of those military heroes is Turenne, one of the most famous marshals of France, whose tomb was installed in 1800 under the Dome. It wasn’t until 1840 that Napoleon I’s body was transferred to this site under the direction of King Louis-Philippe. Also at this location is the Musée de l’Armée: an outstanding art and military history museum, with extensive armament collections.
Recommended for Best Attractions & Activities because: Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte’s body was interred in the tomb at Hôtel National des Invalides in 1840.
Paige’s expert tip: In the summer months, catch the evening light and sound show. It’s an exhilarating romp through Paris history from the perspective of battles fought and wars won.

This Roman-style arena was built between the first and the 2nd century A.D. Named after the city when it was still under the Gallo-Roman rule, the Arènes de Lutèce are one of only two monuments that are still standing from that early historic time of the city, nearly 2,000 years ago. It had been completely covered over and only in 1883, after the demolition of the Daughters of Jesus Christ Convent, was a third of the amphitheater uncovered. Today, you can still see the stage and wings where the actors stood when performing in front of the assembled crowd. It’s a huge monument but not seen from the street. So you literally have to go and unearth it yourself by following the little street that leads to the entrance. It’s a breathtaking venue. It’s also very close to rue Mouffetard, so plenty of fun cafes, bars and restaurants nearby!
Recommended for Best Attractions & Activities because: This arena dates back to the early Roman times when Paris was called Lutèce.
Paige’s expert tip: This amphitheater, originally used as a stage, was later a cemetery. It was later filled in following the building of the wall of Philippe Auguste in 1210. Les Arenes were rediscovered between 1860-1869 when the Compagnie Generale des Omnibus sought to build a tram stop on the site.

First built in 1780, the Parc du Champ-de-Mars is a large green space that stretches from the Eiffel Tower all the way down to the École Militaire to the southeast. It is a favored place for leisurely strolls, rain or shine. It is also one of the best places in the city to stretch out a picnic blanket and while the afternoon hours away over a shared baguette, some French cheese and other treats. Now that there is a glass protective shield around the bottom of the Eiffel Tower, approaching from the great monument from the Champ de Mars affords you a magnificent perspective onto the Iron Lady. Here, you can still lay out a blanket and picnic goodies and simply enjoy some time spent in the shadow of a one-of-a-kind view.
Recommended for Best Attractions & Activities because: The Eiffel Tower is among the ten most recognized landmarks in the world.
Paige’s expert tip: The Champ de Mars is the favored spot for picnics and afternoons spent with a book stretched out on a blanket under the sunshine and the Eiffel Tower. It is open both day and night, so star-gazing is also a popular pastime here.

Fresh from a complete refurbish, this little village within the heart of the Marais district of Paris is now fully re-opened for business, browsing, antiquing and simply enjoying peace & quiet within secluded, interconnected courtyards. Collectors of art and antiques will know this little village well, as many of the shops are oriented towards antiques and other fine collectibles. But not all. Other shops include Venus sur Cour, a shop specializing in erotic collectibles. The network of interconnected courtyards also houses many artist ateliers including photographers, ceramic workshops and even a hatmaker. Le Village St. Paul, now that it is once again fully open and in pristine condition, is also a very popular spot with the locals for lunch/dinner. Restaurants range from casual Italian to casual French to a bar aptly called Dad’s Den. As you meander it’s easy to imagine that King Charles V himself once walked here.
Recommended for Best Attractions & Activities because: The City of Paris spent heaps of Euros and several years refurbishing these ancient gardens once owned by King Charles V. They are now re-opened.
Paige’s expert tip: Once upon a time this was the private gardens of King Charles V.Today, it is known as Le Village St. Paul. A labyrinth of interconnected courtyards filled with quaint shops, artists’ ateliers and restaurants/bars, few places in the Marais offer such a charming oasis from the hustle and bustle of the main streets as Le Village St. Paul.

Design: TAUTEM Architecture and BMC2 Architectes
Location: Marseille, France
In Marseille, at the entrance to the new and rapidly developing Euroméditerranée district, the firms of TAUTEM Architecture and BMC2 Architectes deliver the Antoine de Ruffi School Group.
Housing 22 classroom and common areas, this mineral monolith features strict geometry and spectacular volumes.
Its light-colored concrete façades are sculpted, and the openwork of this thickness forms a colonnade on the port side and a grand staircase on the city side, creating the interplay of light and shadow in its embrasures. In contrast to the building’s envelope, the interiors are warm and comfortable thanks to the use of color and wood.
A remarkable site The Antoine de Ruffi school group occupies a strategic spot between the entrance to the new Méditerranée district, and its “inhabited park” coordinated by the urbanist Yves Lion. Its situation offers, on one hand, a view over the developing suburban fabric, with scattered warehouses, silos, soap factories, large-scale housing estates from the 1970s, and in the distance, the Massif de l’Etoile. The reverse view, towards the west, one sees the port and its huge ships, the towers by Zaha Hadid and Jean Nouvel, as well as the continuous sweep of the highway viaduct.
Sculpted monolith At first glance, this monolith combines massiveness and minerality. The monumentality is the condition guaranteeing its existence in this dense district where high rise apartment buildings (up to 17 stories) are slated for construction. The architects have voluntarily limited the number of architectural and technical components to guarantee simplicity and longevity and to ensure easy maintenance.
Built with “low carbon,” light-colored concrete, between the pearl white blanc and beige of the coquina sand (dear to Pouillon), the building was poured in place and without joints. The painstaking work of the “skin” has produced alternating parts of coquina and smooth, mat and shiny surfaces and an interplay of light and shadow in the embrasures.
Bio-climatic design: façades adapted to their exposure The façades play a protective role. With a thickness of 100 cm, they are the result of a “double wall”, a process of simultaneous pouring of two veils of concrete between which a rigid form of insulation is inserted. They combine thermal performance and massiveness to the two mineral façades. In their thickness, the deep embrasures placed here provide the interior with useful voids for installing storage, work stations and fluid circulations.
Placing ourselves at the height of children The challenge of designing a school for children ages 3 to 11 is to ensure that they love to go to school and that they find the learning environment both as welcoming and protective as one expects of such an institution. The ergonomics, the comfort and the attention of taking into account the height of children guided the overall design work all the way down to the slightest details.
Joyful and luminous interiors To create surprise and contrast with the minerality of the envelope and always in this Mediterranean style, the interior feels joyful and colorful. The softness of curves and the use of wood enabled this children’s universe, warm and enveloping.
This wood, bio-sourced larch from the Alpes, was used with restraint, for the major walls covered in wood paneling and glazed between the class rooms and circulations and for built in furnishings.
