I just said this in a reply, but more concise genre thought: This is the only medieval fantasy novel I've ever read where it's an EARLY -- as in Dark Ages, 600-1100 AD -- medieval fantasy (hilarious genre implications) and it's an incredible ride. I keep telling friends it's like reading Pratchett and catching the puns and references and entire retellings and knowing you've missed stuff that's going to suddenly become clear 10 years from now while you yell.

On s2 of my Downton rewatch. I actually love Lavinia so much. I'm team MaryxMatthew all the way, but Lavinia was so sweet, and she loved Matthew so much. I almost find myself hating this part of the plot because she deserved so much, and what she deserved could never be hers.

The room was quiet, the only sound the distant breeze rustling through the trees outside. She hummed softly, playing with my hair, her fingers gentle as they stroked through the strands.

"Your eyes twinkle when you look at me," she noted, her voice tender.

She hummed in satisfaction, pulling me closer, her face buried in the crook of my neck as she inhaled deeply, sighing in contentment. "Two lovers, a thousand worlds apart, separated by time and space and fate, and yet, somehow, they manage to find each other, and fall in love, and get lost in a never-ending whirlwind of passion and romance and beauty. How did we end up together, Massimo?"

"Fate," I whispered, my voice barely audible.

She snorted softly, pressing her nose against mine. "I would follow you to the ends of the universe, darling."

"As would I," I replied, meaning every word.

I agree with you about what that anon said about people saying their kisses don't look real and passionate. It's casual intimacy and I'm surprised that some people have forgotten that it exists. Their kisses are 100% real. Sometimes I question if we're watching the same show.

People create problems when things are going well because they want something to argue about. It blows my mind that they’re getting this criticism when they’re far more affectionate than any other couple on the show currently. It’s a sign of how healthy their relationship is that they’re always kissing and touching casually!! It doesn’t mean they lack passion or the kisses are fake (the fake kisses thing is so laughable considering how 99.9% of their kisses are fully in view. The directors are just ameteurs, guys! It doesn’t mean they’re not kissing when there’s an over the shoulder shot one time!)
