The ocean of fate
previous part: 1
Chapter 1:
As soon as America had crossed the front door, her little sister New Zealand jumped on her, making them fall on the ground. While shouting a whole lot of incomprehensible gibberish to her older sister. To stop this , America pushed with a certain violence  the little girl, who fell on her back.
"Why did you jump on me? Did Dad had again the crazy idea of learning to cook  because if that's the case I'm going to sleep at Japan's house. " Asked America as she get up.
"No, I mean yes... he's trying to cook, but it's not important right now. I'll tell you the other news afterwards. First of all, what interests us the most is the result of the competition that you did about six months ago ..."
"For wildlife and maritime life in Europe ", continued America . "Yes I remember. Wait, do you mean I received a reply."
Her little sister smiled at her, then give to America an envelope and a small parcel. America sat on the ground and feverishly opened the envelope. Reading the main lines, she was thrilled to learn that the jury gave her the first place. The other sheets concerned the terms of a trip for 10 people and plane tickets. New Zealand handed her the box. Once America had opened it, her surprise face didn't escape  to her little sister who look to what was inside.
"These are bracelets! Do you think they are made in gold, Ame?"
"Of course not . Did your snake eat  your brain?! I do not remember that they were part of the first prize. It's strange."
"It's okay, at worst it's a mistake on their part....Wait, I think there's a card inside."
"You are right."
America looked at the little card and threw it behind her .
"Well , from what was written on the card , it was in the first set prize , these bracelets come from the island in question."
"Oh, okay. Can I have one? " asked New Zealand with stars in her eyes.
" Of course ."
America put the sheets back in their envelopes and went into the living room. To see her father doing house cleaning  while Australia and Canada were eating cookies on the couch. The two boys were hanging on their cell phone, America could bet they were having a chat with their respective girlfriends. America was wondering how these two were able to date two of the prettiest girls on the campus, which was Vietnam and Mexico. And whenever she had feelings for another woman, these two would tried to flirt with her and even sometimes in front of their girlfriend.
America had never understood how their girlfriends didn't dump them after those incident. But their grandmother Wales would have told her in a firm voice that it was her jealousy that spoke. It was true that America was jealous of her brothers, of the facility they have to  seduce the young women and of their carelessness.America, despite her twenty-five years, she had known only love failures and the few girls with whom she had a relationship, one had cheating her with another girl from their curriculum while another suddenly cut all contact , America had learned from a mutual friend that the girl she was dating was declared of another gender and had accused her of mistreating her and telling false rumors on campus. Most of the people she knew who were part of the LGBT+ community had excluded her without giving her a chance to tell her side of the story. The violence against America was so extreme that she had to stop coming to college. And after much conversation with his father, they had finally moved to another town where no one knew them. It was at the small university that she met her best friend Japan with whom she had a short romantic relationship during primary school.
UK finally noticing the presence of his eldest daughter , he greeted her joyfully before asking her in the same tone.
"America, since you're back, you can go and get one of the wine bottles in the basement, I asked your brothers, but even if there was an earthquake they wouldn't move."
"Are we hosting someone tonight?"
"Yes, I have met a lovely woman for several months now, I am sure that you two would get along just fine."
"What's her name?"
"Come on, America, I already told you her name. AH no! It was New Zealand."
"That still doesn't tell me who it is."
"It's France."
"Oh! Wait a minute how did you meet her? She hardly even leaves the library."
"Well, you see. You remember when you caught the flu and had to give back books on the study of the plague of the fourteenth century in Europe and on the Eastern Roman Empire, or something like that.I didn't remember quite the name.Whatever. But , that's when I went to return your books, I dropped them off at the reception desk of the old Hortense and then I wander into the shelves. I was looking at the books on late antiquity section , when France had passed near me and asked me what I was looking for . And we began to discuss , she informed me about any kind of information about Roman antiquity , which I used for my book of inquiry. I went there almost every day to be able to see her and we often ended up discussing at her house about the books we had read, but also about the various ancient legends . And to thank her for all the loving days we spent together, well, I invited her to dinner at home."
"I hope you ordered food, because if you cook, we'll all have to flee the house and call the fire department."
"Don't be spiteful, I asked your little sister to help me."
"Oh my God..."
Before her father could say anything the bell rang . United Kingdom rushed to the front door. After brief greetings and kisses, they went into the living room. The sight of France had at least the merit of winning the gaze of Canada and Australia who murmured that it was a ten. Which had the gift of annoying America but she had to keep quiet to make a good face because after all France was one of the professors of her university. And it had been so long since his father had had anyone in his life.
Everyone sat down at the table and New Zealand brought the main course, to the view of it America took out her phone and ordered pizzas. United Kingdom distributed to everyone a share of this indescribable meat both visual and gustatory.
Fortunately the pizzas arrived quickly enough to save them from this inedible meal. America was surprised that France had not already apologized and going back to her home.
In the end, it was a TV-pizza party which embarrassed United Kingdom but it did not seem to bother France.
During the meal, New Zealand told how America had won a search contest and now had plane tickets to go to an island in the Aegean Sea. America said she had ten bills and that she was going to give one to Japan, which would probably go, one to New Zealand, one to their grandmother. As for what was left she didn't know if her father was up for it, but he seemed to wonder at the idea of a family trip. And asked France if she was willing, she hesitated, but the insistence of New Zealand, Canada and Australia had overcome her hesitation. She asked if it didn't really bother America that she takes part of this travel, and America gave her a simple no.
After France left, Canada and Australia informed America that their girlfriends were also coming. America ignored them while she was chatting with Japan on her phone.

Canada who do you consider your immediate family (people like siblings, mothers, fathers)
note: In my AU UK is Canada's brother as England + Scotland is UK's parents and England + France is Canada's parents
additional note countryhumas are born with magic or whatever so it doesnt matter if someone has 1, 2 or more parents of any gender as they arent born. they just appear and parents get the natural instinct of that so yeah :D
Also lazy art lmao

The Living Ghost of a Long Dead Brother (Wattpad | Ao3)
This oneshot is spoken entirely in Swedish.
Sweden had never met New Sweden. Her half-brother had died over fifty years before she was born. So when her king asked her to visit America and the former site of New Sweden to celebrate its founding anniversary with them, Sweden agreed, despite her lack of emotional attachment to the area, to come.
She didn’t really know why she agreed. Maybe she wanted to see the land where her older brother would have been raised or maintain positive diplomatic relations with America. Sweden didn’t know, but she was glad she did.
It was a lovely trip, and Sweden was glad for the break from her duties as a country. Now, she was sitting by the Delaware River, smoking a cigarette and wondering what the New Sweden Colony would have looked like back when it existed.
And wondering what her older brother looked like. Her father had never commissioned any portraits of him, despite his status as a countryhuman, so Sweden had never had a face to put with the name. There were even conspiracy theories regarding the status of the colony, with some people thinking that New Sweden had never been personified despite evidence to the contrary.
“You think I’d have an easier time finding you since this is my land,” a voice suddenly said behind her. The voice was odd, his Swedish almost archaic or spoken with a very strange accent. Sweden turned to see a countryhuman behind her, a nervous grin on his face, which bore the flag she had been seeing flying around Wilmington all day.
“Delaware?” She murmured, surprised. The state shrugged.
“Yeah,” he said, before laughing slightly. “But I’m also the replacement for New Sweden if that means anything to you.”
Sweden blinked before looking at the countryhuman, now with renewed interest. Was this her half-brother? Or, more accurately, the child of her half-brother? Of course, that might not be the way he saw things. Sweden knew replacements didn’t always see it the same way, with some seeing themselves as the children of their past and others seeing themselves as a new beginning for whatever they personified.
“Replacement, huh? How do you see your past?” Sweden asked.
“I’m New Sweden, just with some amnesia and a new name,” Delaware said, “So, I do consider myself your brother.”
So, her long-dead brother was alive in the form of an American state.
She wondered if her king had known about this, and that’s why he was so insistent that she came with them to America. She would have to ask him later.
“I didn’t know the American states were personified,” Sweden stated. It wasn’t a question, but that didn’t mean she didn’t want answers.
“You know Britain and how he treats his kids?” Delaware asked. Sweden nodded, her lack of knowledge of the American states making much more sense.
“Does America fear him?” she asked. She knew most of Britain’s former colonies weren’t comfortable around him, but with everything that had happened in the past few decades, she figured America would be over that.
“Not him. What he could do to us. Dad’s overprotective like that.” Delaware said, walking to stand next to her before shooting her a small smile, “You won’t tell, will you little sister?”
Sweden snorted, “Who willingly wants to spend time with him?”
“France.”
“Well, she’s never been right in the head,” Sweden replied without missing a beat. Delaware laughed.
“I don’t think very many of us are.” He said before the conversation ended. They sat silently for a while before Sweden acknowledged the topic they were avoiding.
“Replacement? What happened?” She asked. Delaware shrugged.
“I don’t know. Don’t want to either. I know it had something to do with Britain and that New Netherlands was killed the same day, but aside from that–” Delaware made a clicking noise with his tongue, pointing at his head, “I got nothing. But that is not a New Sweden memory I want to have. I’d rather have the others.”
Sweden hummed in acknowledgment before speaking, “So you remember our father?”
“Not really. He was very neglectful. He was busy with wars in Europe and didn’t have enough time for me.” Delaware said. Sweden sighed.
“Sounds like what I’ve heard of him. Was he a bad parent, the parts you remember?” She asked. Their father had died the day she was born, and she grew up being compared to him and told of how amazing he was as a person and a country. And she grew up with the whispers, too, people saying that God was upset with Sweden, which is why he replaced the Swedish Empire with a skinny little girl.
Sweden took great pleasure in punching the particular noble where the sun didn’t shine.
But now she had someone who knew Father as a parent and could…verify the things she had been told.
“He tried. He wanted colonies, though, not kids. And I think he was convinced that we are inhuman enough to take care of ourselves from birth. He could’ve been worse. He tried more than others I’ve seen. Unfortunately, the bar for countries as parents is so low; neglectful parents are considered good parents.” Delaware said, with a sigh, “But much of my New Sweden memories are incomplete or missing. He could be better than that, but…”
“He could be worse.” Sweden said, shaking her head, “That’s better than I expected.”
“Glad I could help. Now, I know you’re here for politics and such with your monarchs, but if you are willing, I’d like to show you around Wilmington and some nearby areas…and get to know you as a sister or something. Only if you’re willing, of course. We just met, and I’m a part of another country so it would be stupid to wan—”
“Delaware,” Sweden said, cutting off the state’s worries,  “I would like that.”
Delaware looked at her, surprise in his eyes, “really?”
“Why not? It seems fun, and we don’t have to do human forms or names, just country…or country and state,” Sweden said. Delaware smiled, visibly reminding Sweden of America.
“That sounds great. Thank you, Sweden.”
Sweden smiled back.

List of things that were supposed to happen in my scrapped countryhumans talent show fanfic
-Hawaii does an Elvis impersonation and performs blue suede shoes
-Hungary spends the entire show trying to solve a Rubik’s cube. When his five minutes on stage ended, they just moved him off to the side so he can continue. He doesn’t solve it
-Poland and Vatican’s talent was performing Exorcisms, and brought a possessed woman on stage to exorcise, but got kicked off immediately by UN. So they begrudgingly decided to perform their exorcism in the boys bathroom, which got stopped halfway through by both UN and ASEAN who understandably did not want a demon running around on the Asian country’s section of the building. Oh yeah, in my ch AU, Poland was a priest and was trained in demonology by Vatican and is certified to perform exorcisms.
-Northern Ireland and England dressed as their secret drag queen personas, along with Wales who dressed in her drag king persona, and they all “danced” (it was mostly them doing uncoordinated dance moves like the worm, the running man, and the epileptic octopus.) to Scotland’s bagpipe playing. And then they all jumped onto each other’s shoulders and fell over.
-Serbia’s performance of a Diss song that she composed that mostly made up of her playing an accordion and dissing all of the countries that have wronged her, or she hates, both past and present. The big finale was when she started insulting Ottoman empire and calling him names, when both Turkey and Ottoman Empire jumped up and chased her around the auditorium while she continued to hurl insults at them, both EU and UN had to chase after the trio to get them to stop.
- a few of the African countries put on “Africa” by Toto.
-America’s western states do a crummy half hearted line dance to “finally Friday”, the northern states perform “Blame Canada”, and New York performs a Broadway number (unfortunately… his song of choice was “springtime for Hitler”) they were all supposed to do a group number, but split due to creative differences.
-Mexico played a quiet folk song on his guitar which was well received.
-Austria played a classical piano piece with Germany as the page turner, Germany fumbles with the pages causing the pages to fall onto the floor, Austria playing the same measure over and over in a panic as Germany struggled to collect all of the pages before giving up, and running off stage in embarrassment.
-France and a few of her states perform “do you hear the people sing?” While Normandy performs “bring him home”
-Austria-Hungary with help from German empire performs a classical music piece, but then gets interrupted by someone’s phone.
-Italy sings a song and then ends it with a sudden cart wheel.
-India, Brazil, Kenya, and Australia bring a VERY VERY DANGEROUS AND HIGHLY VENOMOUS BLACK MAMBA ON STAGE to demonstrate their venomous snake handling skills, they tried to get someone to come on stage to HOLD THE SNAKE. But that got nixed real quickly.
-Mauritius does a dance with his cloned dodo bird, Captain Lewis, which then walked off stage and fell into the audience.
-Britain gets introduced on stage as “performing a nice number by Bach”, he has his suit on, a top hat, and everyone thinks, “oh, he’s going to play the number on his violin”. Nope, he lowers his tie, tucks his pants inside his big, tall, platform boots, and unbuttons his collar to reveal the spiked collar underneath, and whips out his old electric guitar and plays friggin’ toccata and fugue in D minor like a legend.
- Norway, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, and Estonia try to do a Black Death metal performance with their band, “Estonia and the Nordics”. It was just them screaming, banging on their instruments, and smashing their guitars while Estonia, the lead singer, gets a bout of anxiety and stands awkwardly on the stage looking at her feet unable to sing.
-Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and China tried to perform the dance of the little swans (Russia’s idea, no one else wanted to) but only Russia practiced and China was a last minute edition as Kazakhstan quit that day, and not even one second into the music, the whole thing dissolved into a massive fight and Belarus running offstage to go snitch to Soviet Union.
