Hot take: Count Bleck in Super Paper Mario has never grown since his days as a member of the Tribe of Darkness, just like how Father has never grown since his days as the Dwarf in the Flask in Fullmetal Alchemist.

Count Bleck didn't want to live in the strict world of the Tribe of Darkness, but he ultimately squandered the freedom he gained when he left his people. He could have traveled the world, met new people, and learned from them. In fact, he did travel in search of Tippi after her disappearance. He did meet his loyal minions: Nastasia, O'Chunks, and Mimi. But he placed limitations on himself, wallowing in fatalistic despair and closing himself off from any possibility beyond his narrow worldview. Whenever someone offered him an opportunity to stop his destructive ways, he rejected it for most of the game. He also refused to believe in himself, depending on the strength of others such as his minions, Princess Peach, and Bowser, and other external sources of power such as the Dark Prognosticus and the Chaos Heart.

Count Bleck has never learned to recognize that his emotional obsession with a single person in the past is holding him back. But while Truth punishes Father for his refusal to grow and form bonds with people in Fullmetal Alchemist, Super Paper Mario rewards Count Bleck for his refusal to grow and form bonds with people other than Tippi since they save everyone by reaffirming their love for each other and they leave for a new world where they are allowed to live with each other, excluding everyone else.

In contrast to Father's final fate in Fullmetal Alchemist, Truth rewards Edward Elric for his acknowledgment of his humanity and connections with others when Ed gives up his alchemy to bring his brother back. Ed achieves the ultimate victory by repenting of the sin of pride. So basically, Fullmetal Alchemist counterbalances Father's stagnation with Ed's growth, but Super Paper Mario offers nothing that could counterbalance Count Bleck's stagnation.

i feel like dimentio is some kind of chaos lord

Chaos Lord would probably be a dream title of his to be honest.

The way I perceive Dimentio is as an Ancient who refused to follow traditions, the son of The Magician who decided to profit off his presumed death as a way to get the annoying elders, who saw his beliefs and behavior as disgraceful, off his tail.

Since Ancients are a pretty easy to distinguish species from the face alone (in my portrayal by: dark skin, pattern or shade starting at the nose tip and ending at the back, pointed ears, lack of pupils) he started wearing a mask. As to explain his magical affinity to anyone who asked he eventually began introducing himself as a magician, inspired after his father. Without too much suspicion from others, he started learning about the worlds out there and their magic, even that which was classified back at home.

He managed to find a document mentioning The Chaos Heart and how Ancients dealt with it all those years ago. After a little bit of digging and connecting the dots, he looked into the case of The Dark Prognosticus which led him to the Tribe of Darkness, whom the book was entrusted to. He was instead met with a wiped civilization and vaguely learned of what happened to it through various rumors spread around by the locals living in the vicinity. This in turn led him to Count Bleck and everyone knows the rest.

Also three little headcanons of mine:

The gem that was used for the pendant on his neck was a gift from his mother which he values dearly.

He can play the piano.

Naturally Dimentio is hundreds of years older than Bleck but Bleck has the calculated maturity of a 50ish year old while Dimentios is 40something in human terms. (This occurs because of the difference between their specie life spans.)

The Tribe of Darkness

Nolrem and others like him are the descendants of these strange, ancient people. A very, very long time ago, they splintered off from the Tribe of Ancients and lived by themselves. I heard that they were so prideful that they avoided interacting with those outside of their tribe. They lived in secrecy, so we have little idea where they might have lived. Some say that they lived quietly in a castle deep in a forest where no one came. 

1. The tribe definitively separated from the ancients 1500 years ago, before the events of spm. After helping them create Flopside, apparently some members of this tribe remained in this city. 2- Surely, the castle being talked about here is Castle Bleck, (As seen in the part I wrote previously).

The founder of this tribe, as my theory says in the “Timeline” part, could be the son of the creator of the Pixls. Seeing that he brought the Dark Prognosticus with him after the Pixl War, he fled with the prophetic book, creating this infamous tribe. Although, a Japanese translation of one of Carson's stories suggests that before they split up and even before the Pixel War, there was a group with great magical power within the Tribe of Ancients, that is to say, this tribe was establishing itself in a time before we had imagined.

They stole it in order to research new magic and curses based on its contents... While others believe that they stole the book in order to keep it from those who wished to misuse it.

Blumiere's father were one of the main members of the Tribe of Darkness, or so it is theorized. One fact is that, in the Super Mario-Kun manga, you can see his silhouette, this being a corpulent figure, with a big mustache and wearing what looks like a bowler hat.

Count Bleck is the last surviving member of the tribe itself, having destroyed the rest of the tribe after his father seemingly killed his loved one, a human descendent of the tribe of Ancients. In addition, it is hinted that Nastasia was originally a bat that was transformed into a member of the same species as Bleck, whom she had fallen for, which would make her a member of the Tribe of Darkness as well.

Their xenophobia is said to be based on pride at one point by Carson, although they were also concerned that their magic would become diluted if they married outside of the tribe. The japanese translation says: 

 "It seems that they were a tribe within the Tribe of Ancients that possessed exceptionally powerful magic. And it's said that they forbade marriage outside of the tribe out of fear of losing it. It seems that the Tribe of Darkness saw their magic as something to use for a "very important thing". Just what was that "very important thing"? Nowadays, we will never know."

My theory: This is where my theory comes in. After separating, the Tribe of Darkness continued to examine the Dark Prognosticus, finding the prophecy imminent. Blinded by power, they wanted to start it (Dimentio being a fundamental part of this). That's why he knows so much about the DP and the prophecy—things that not even Count Black knew about them. But they saw the great danger that it brought with it—that, instead of creating new worlds to rule, the prophecy was about the destruction of all worlds, all of them would reduce all existence itself until everything was erased as if it had never existed. That's why they prevented any member from opening the infamous book and forbade marriage outside the tribe. Up to the present: The events of Super Paper Mario. Didn't it seem suspicious that Count Bleck had always known about this macabre ending?

Hii! Really love your art! Your designs for the mario characters are super lovely. I was wondering tho, what drives your dimentio? Why does he, like, destroy nearly every kingdom he comes across? Why does he want to become king of all worlds when he doesn't seem to mind the 'subservient' role?

Okay so, this probably will get extremely long ksajhd

Dimentio is unconsciously reenacting what the Pixl Queen, or his sister Shadoo, did. After getting driven to madness by being resurrected in a vessel with the Dark Prognosticus, she brainwashed every Pixl, formed an army and tried to destroy the Ancients for their selfishness and supposed egocentrism, so she is technically destroying a kingdom.

I never worked much in the time-line of events, but before all of that happened, Dimentio and his mother Illuminata died, because Merloo, the father and great magician, was researching the Dark Prognosticus and one day he tries a spell and everything goes wrong.

A recurring theme in the family story is how everyone of them had a tragedy, the father gets obsessed with the Dark Prognosticus and kills both his wife and son in an accident, the mother dies protecting the son, the son is cursed with immortality by being bound to the book, and the sister gets ill because of the dark energy the house had, dies, is brought back, dies again, now by her brother's own hands, gets cursed and also locked away in the Pits.

You can say that Shadoo and Dimentio are the ones who suffered the most, and depending on how you see it, yeah they are, but imagine living the rest of your life thinking that you ruined everything, like, EVERYTHING, because a book was "that" important. That's why Merloo ends up helping with the Light Prognosticus, but also completely alone, as if you see in the game, he's the only sage who, apparently, has no descendants.

Before I forget, Pixl Queen Shadoo had the DP, when Dimentio "kills" her, he takes it, tries to protect it from evil, but reads it in morbid curiosity of what is written there, people steal it from him and then he starts getting insane, just like Bleck. ^v^

In conclusion, Dimentio is traumatized, but instead of having a chance to really think about his past and not commit any crimes, he has the DP talking in his head and leaving every other memory to the side, which is why he has kind of an amnesia and why he knows roughly where the thing is. In other words, the book makes you go crazy, and after living so many years and so many deaths I think that the person is very likely to just go apeshit after some point.

Ah, and about the thing with being a servant and wanting to be king at the same time, I don't take what he said in that part too literally, because I do believe that his motivation was to make a perfect world without all the rotten evil people in it, that would explain why he doesn't like the Count, Dimentio may know he's bad too, but he's being bad for a greater or purer reason. The role of servant is mostly just a strategy to be seen as someone who is vulnerable and eager to please, a perfect lie to hide the strings he's holding.

Magical Girl Peachie Cure is going to be like… a small project. It won’t be a full blown scale thing like Project SFA or my precure fanseries, but rather a mascot for my account! One day I hope I can open a shop for my art and have these two be the faces of it!

Onto characters: Meet Larissa! (Not to be confused with NP/SFA’s Larissa Frausto) She’s a 20 year old girl who’s trying to navigate through the next phase of her life, but is currently struggling… but one day she finds Raguel through a job interview and then becomes a magical girl?!

Naming herself Peachie Cure, she gives her new job as a magical girl her all!… though, that name does seem kinda familiar…

Larissa here is meant to be my persona, with the magical girl part added because well… I like magical girls aha

Her personality and struggles are based on myself, so she struggles with social interaction and is on the autism spectrum. She also likes to draw and play video games.

Onto Raguel, the God of Life, Light and Creation. He’s been around since the first living creature, and has watched over life for as long as he can remember. Once humans came around, he started recruiting a magical girl to aid him by his side every once in a while…

To Larissa, at first he is simply someone that finally gave her a job. But overtime, he became a very much of a father figure to her, caring about her wellbeing, learning about her and her interests… and just wanting to be able to guide her to success.

Though, Larissa is VERY passionate about her interests, as he soon finds out after she’s more comfortable with talking to him. Currently she appears to be obsessed with SPM…

Raguel was originally a character made for a now defunct precure project, but I didn’t want him to die with it, so he is getting repurposed for this. His design was just to banger to die… here’s some photos of him from said defunct project. One day I’ll probably post all I did for it…

More Count Bleck rambling

Okay but I was thinking about his suit.

Anyway, I've always noticed how his character design isn't typically evil looking? He's wearing a white suit and his cape is pretty brightly colored.

Now obviously this could've been to illustrate and give subtle hints to how he's not all evil, and that's what I always figured it was.

But I was thinking recently; his suit and cape are very fancy, albeit the cape is a little torn at the edges, topped off with stars inside the cape. He's also got a monocle and top hat, and his gloves are even velvet lined according to Dimentio. White is also a suit color most often worn at very fancy weddings.

I think you can glean where I'm going with this

What if that's the suit and cape he was gonna wear when he married Timpani? Or what he wore when he proposed? Or both? He was dressed all nice to pick her up and found out she was gone, and that his father got rid of her.

He searched for her throughout the dimensions which wore out his cape and tore the ends. It holds the memory of his pain and loss TvT

Bonus: what if the ceremony chamber was originally meant for Blumiere and Timpani?

Which means by the end of the game they got to finally fulfill their old vows in the place they originally promised

🧠 - What is their stress response: fight, flight, freeze, or fawn?

BOY okay, while typing up a response to this, I've found that their stress responses usually cannot be summarized with a single word, so this got a bit lengthy oops.

Blumiere - Freeze and Flight. Whatever it is that's causing him stress, Blumiere's response is to retreat into himself and wait until it passes. Rarely he takes action to combat the source of the stress actively. Blumiere doesn't want to have to think about it or what to do. A prime example of this is of course what happened to him after his father cursed Timpani. Not knowing what to do he let another entity decide for him- the Dark Prognosticus.

Timpani - Fawn. Timpani's usual stress response is to bury it under some form of social work to the point of neglecting her own needs. Even if that may be part of the very reason she is stressed! Timpani bottles her stress up until it either dissipates (rarely) or it explodes and leaves her in shambles (commonly). She is so terrified of being a bother, that she'd rather grind herself to dust than ask for help. It's something that's very hard for her to unlearn.

O'Chunks - Flight. While O'Chunks has a higher stress threshhold than the rest of the group, even he buckles eventually, especially under emotional and social pressures. Ever since his confidence had been completely shattered, he tends to avoid his responsibilities under great stress. When he's backed up against a wall though, with no way to flee left, he gets very defensive and loud.

Dimentio - Fight. While Dimentio really is just a pathetic rag, his ego doesn't allow for him to freeze or flee. Rather he attempts to take back control over the situation- usually no matter the cost. If fighting will buy him a little more time on a sinking ship he will do it.

Mimi - Fight. Her knee-jerk reaction is to destroy the source of her stress, or rather what she deems the source of her stress. For Mimi, stress eventually turns into anger sooner or later. During that time, Mimi becomes easily irritated and will take it out on anyone around her but the count.

Nastasia - Freeze. Nastasia gets stuck thinking of and considering her options, valuing each for their pros and cons and ultimately not doing any of them because the sheer numbers overwhelm her. No planning ahead in the world would make up for this, as much as she'd like it to.

Count Malicieux (Bleck's father) had seared Timpani's hair off, burnt her and burned her house down before sending her between realms. I thought it was more important to draw Timpani, as her trauma from his father is different than Blumiere's trauma, which is primarily neglect. Because of Malicieux, Timpani still to this day gets easily suspicious and on edge around people, fearing they'll take advantage of her.

So seeing Guiro light up for the first time definitely was traumatic for Timpani, in terrified shock she had dropped him accidentally. It was hard for the both of them.

Merlon was the only person who saw Timpani when she was found in that burnt state, which begun their precious fatherly/teacher-student bond.
