Who is/are a must for your OC to have with them for their most special days?
For any and all of your crew!
good evening, ree! i hope that you had a good day! thank you so much for the ask! there's too many characters on nomin's end of things that i'd like to give some attention to, but i'll stick with nomin and her steppe light party.
an OC ask list 🪶 in the spirit of celebration
nomin -> she, for a long time, was fine just on her own. the first time she ever celebrated a nameday (which is arguably her most special day, as she declared her own name) was with her adoptive siblings. these days, she doesn't think about it that much. she's genuinely surprised when people remember her nameday, though. she doesn't talk about it much. but...she likes just little relaxing days where it's just her and estinien nowadays. she's not big on celebrations for her. as for what she would like, you can't go wrong with chocolates or orange candies for her.
arik -> for a special day, something that arik enjoys is airag. if there isn't airag, then arik would go for some vodka. to pair with either, he's not as much of a sweet tooth as nomin, and would prefer more savory dishes like chanasan makh or tsuivan.
jargal -> this girlie more enjoys being on her own. she doesn't have a lot of days that she considers special to her. i would actually say her special day is the start of the tsagaan sar -- another year lived is an achievement. celebrating with traditional drinks and foods like suutei tsai, buuz, tsagaala, and ul boov.
cotota -> the day that cotota celebrates is something she calls 'tiger day' -- and it's the anniversary of when she became recognized as an adult of the qerel tribe and got her limbal rings. cotota has a deel made of silk and tiger skin of the tiger she felled. if you see her wearing it, it means she is celebrating.
#questions and answers#user: upatreewithoutaharness#thank you ♥#oc: nomin tal kheeriin#oc: arik dotharl (noykin)#oc: jargal qalli#oc: cotota qerel

ASKS BE UPON YE
1 / 3 / 5 / 7 / 20 / 21 🦎
Hey THANK YOU SORRY that i took a nap right after i told you i'd get to the asks. work.... exhaustion................... but you're giving me... enrichment. in these computerless times.
1. What's your oc's gender identity? What's their relationship to their gender?
Ough, tough one. Eos wouldn't be anything else than what she is - a soul in a woman's body - so i suppose i can safely say she's cis - or like, that she doesn't care enough to worry about her very gender. But she has a long story of slowly getting more and more alienated from the steppe's culture, which strongly impacted her gender presentation mostly. she was forced to dress à la sharlayan by a bad guy, which was awful and then the bad guy caused her exile, so we're not off to a great start. leaving the steppe's quite genderless robes behind was quite difficult, especially when she then reached other countries and continents and saw what some tailors had in store for women KJDSKJDSKJ. that made her feel even more different and weird than she already was. xaela are quite a rare sight outside of the steppe so she had no one to tell her if what she saw and felt was normal, and how to cope.
that's why all her outfits are 1. not specifically feminine (though the game makes them look more feminine than they are in my mind) and 2. not eorzean. yes, the crystarium aiming set is definitely not something she'd have worn back in the steppe. but it covers her body. same with gunbreaker outfits in general. recently, getting into white magic let her choose a more steppe-like outfit - large concealing coat, practical, with embroidered motifs, boots and skirt with pants (protection from whatever could crawl on her legs) that let her be finally closer to nature and herself again.
that gender and cultural question is also why she TECHNICALLY creates her own clothes but i haven't leveled the corresponding crafting classes yet cough. she's learned leatherwork in the steppe and she's most certainly a good weaver. tailoring your own outfits according to your own preferences and all that to avoid the shameful white mage mini skirt
3. How did your oc discover themself? Did something cause them to question, or did they always know?
She knew, I think. She had some kind of homoerotic friendship with Cotota (the khan's niece from Reunion) when they were teenagers. Then she got exiled and the fear and trauma resulting from this, then the wol business, buried her romantic and sexual feelings so deep she wouldn't find them back in years KJDSKJKJSD
she started feeling better after the elpis trip, though it still wasn't all perfect - still, she had enough hope to be the one defeating meteion and not the reverse. at the same time the twelveswood's blasphemy was roaming the forest and by dealing with it she became kan-e-senna's friend.
generally speaking, the last part of endwalker and the patchs are the moment she starts feeling good enough for people around her to feel real again. like suddenly she feels she's in the world again, and so can make friends. and she did. then among those friends was the elder seedseer and eos spent some time recovering from the ultima thule fight in gridania so their friendship grew into something else :) and it was all natural she didn't feel surprised by the fact she was into women at all. but she WAS surprised that she could FEEL SOMETHING.
5. How did you figure out your oc's identity?
For most of the MSQ eos was asexual in my head. just couldn't picture anything else, any other identity. but honestly that was caused by my personal issues, i was afraid to engage with the plot outside what was canonically defined (for reasons). yes i had depression. yes once i got better eos immediately became a lesbian. but her asexuality is still part of her story - though at this point i wouldn't call it asexuality to respect my asexy friends. that was just trauma. but that lack of interest in anything sexual/romantic was definitely an important part of her life and she is trying to make sense of it
7. Is there something that could cause your oc to question their identity? What?
Honestly. No.
20. Have your ocs helped you in self discovery? How?
Not in terms of labels or anything - my lesbian identity has been pretty solid for as long as i can remember - but i DO HAVE several forms of OCD, and have for five years, including homosexual OCD (aka comphet but make it a mental disorder) i have intrusive thoughts about having heterosexual sex and i compulsively check every thought to see if it means i'm straight. and finally setting in stone that my oc was also a lesbian and in a happy relationship helped me quiet the intrusive thoughts. that and sertraline. but i swear it makes me feel happy to see my oc happy - and it seems right, like it can't be otherwise. she couldn't be with anyone else than a woman. just like me irl. it's validating.
21. Free ramble card wee
i still hate square enix for what they've done to the female version of the neo-ishgardian outfits like let eos wear a leather jacket free her from that gender role prison yes i've said that a thousand times yes i will keep saying it
also gaia and ryne's story is the best lesbian representation i've ever seen and every young wlw should play it. literally felt a weight leave my shoulders as ryne caught gaia from the void and the camera cut to the rainbow crystal and a field of newly grown flowers where a desert stood but a second ago. sudden breath of fresh air and life brought by gay love

Raise Your Spirits, Not Your Voice - FFXIV Write - Day 1: Envoy
On Ao3 as well. Story contains alcohol.
-
Halditar huffed as she dropped the final sacks off her shoulders and into the back of the cart. Wood groans under the sudden added weight of more bags of grain, but it does not yield and that is a good enough for Cotota. The Qestir girl gave the wagon a thorough once over. Taking advantage of the fact her Roegadyn aid had not yet keeled over from carrying orders through the whole of Reunion all day to get her to move one or two things, before giving a nod to signify all was right. The Mol merchant who had paid for this bounty of food gave their own nod back and thanks to Halditar.
Halditar waited with bated breath as the merchant strolled toward the archways that defined the entrance of Reunion. Free to sigh and let the tension roll off her shoulders from a hard day’s work once through. She had no clue what she had been agreeing to when asked to aid Cotota with managing the merchants of the day. It gave her a new appreciation for the smaller girl, and the madness of places like the Sapphire Avenue. Only able to imagine the chaos that went into running such sprawls of stalls and shops if the heads of such places put even a fraction of the effort into running them as she had seen Cotota put in today.
A clawed hand patting her back pulled her out of her exhausted daze. She drew her blue eyes down to see similar blue ones gazing up, crinkled skyward, with a sharp, reptilian pupil dilated into something softer. Unspoken thanks quick to melt the tiredness out of her bones, she returned it with a toothy grin and a thumbs up. Far less subtly, but recognizable. Big enough an expression to make Cotota’s eyes light up with a sheen of mirth before gesturing for her to follow back towards the tents. Halditar’s stomach grumbled. Her reward awaited.
With the stars above signaling the end of a day of trade and all stalls closing, the chill of night descended upon the unprepared. It made the sweat beneath her heavy woolen clothes chill and feel tacky against the cloth covering her body, making the heat captured inside the tents more welcome. Especially the one she guided her to, steam and smoke swirling around in a rich, earthy aroma.
An older Xaela hunched over a pot, scooping bowls into the stew itself to collect broth, veggies, and meats to feed the next mouth that wandered to her door. This woman was a master of her craft, not looking up to have two piping hot bowls at the ready and shoved into either of their exposed hand. The wood only just protected them from the bubbling liquid, warming their hands. The ladies rushed from the tent after giving quick nods of thanks. They struggled between not moving so quick as to splash themselves with hot stew, and moving too slow and letting the night air chill their hard-earned dinner to a state lukewarmness that would do nothing for their bodies against the steppe’s freezing nights.
The Khan’s tent was not too far off, both arriving through the doors with bowls still yet steaming. The table Cotota used for work had all the parchments and tools she used were pushed aside. Leaving only metal cups for water and enough space for them to sit and enjoy their meal. Using a stone for a seat had never felt more comfortable to Halditar, sinking into it as Cotota grabbed their cups and went to fill them with water. Upon her return, neither could wait any longer and dove into their meal.
The broth was thick but runny, slipping down the back of the dragoon’s throat with no need for her to swallow. A menagerie of flavors, mixed without care for each other with veggies and herbs. She could say the same for the chunks her spoon would fish around the broth for. Peppery parsnips, sweet and semi-unripe garlic, and onion mingled with goat and sheep, salted generously. Such a powerful collection of flavors may have knocked a normal adventurer flat with the salt content alone. To Halditar though, it was damn well good; it taking everything the roegadyn had not to slurp from her spoon as it formed warmth in her stomach.
She could not shake the sensation deep in her gut that something was missing from the meal, however. Unsure what it could be until in a matter of second she found herself at the bottom of an empty metal cup. The answer was obvious as the gray sheen of the cup let her see a glint of her reflection. Water was too thin to whet her thirst and was little more that a wisp regarding a meal this heavy. And there was a bottle sat long overdue to be opened, and now was the perfect opportunity.
Halditar reached into her limitless bag, hoping she had not left what she looked for in the saddlebag of her chocobo, until she felt the glass she sought. The dark brown bottle made its amber golden contents slosh like gold in the dim light. Even more so as she uncorked the stopper and let it fill the cup to its near brim. Adorning it with a thin, white crown as the smell of malt and hops wafted up. She put the bottle back if she had not seen Cotota cast a long glance toward the bottle. Tilting her head in question when she saw she had caught her staring.
The roegadyn first turned the bottle to show its back label, where on a small map its origin was printed. From the heart of La Noscea, in lands far from this one. She did not hesitate to point the bottle in offer to Cotota, grinning as she saw a bit of hesitation. But she finished her cup, and held it out to receive. Halditar grinned wider when she saw how wide her eyes got when she filled the other cup just as heavily. This time the white cap atop the brew threatening to spill over the cup’s rim. The market master seemed a bit more intimidated by the mystery brew. She brought it to her nose to sniff, and then beneath her veil to sip of a few seconds long. It took all strength the Warrior of Light had not to burst out laughing as the xaelea’s eyes squinted shut and her nose crinkled. Even with the veil blocking her face, the disgust was obvious, almost cat-like. It was such a sight, Halditar accepted the stink eye, not surprised in the least. She imagined her first time trying a pale ale was similar.
The red-head swallowed her laughter with difficulty and instead showed the better way to have the drink. A few hearty bites of stew, and while her mouth was still warm, wash it down with a glug or two of her drink. The fruit, citrus notes mellowed the harsher flavors and added an air of pine that mingled in over her tongue. Like a meal enjoyed amongst the trees around the north of Gridania instead of in a tent in the steppe. The idea gotten across, Cotota tried again. This time at least finding the drink a bit more palatable, it seemed, taking a few hearty glugs that made Halditar grin. The girl could hold her liquor.
Paired with something heavier and harder, it elevated the meal into something that made the culinarian inside Halditar wonder if she ought to learn to make this stew herself. To her shock, it was not her that refilled her cup first, but Cotota. With a grin, she obliged, filling the cup once more to the brim, but not before getting an idea. A slight buzz compelling her confidence. She grabbed her own half finished up and held it up, requesting a toast.
Though her brow furrowed, the white-haired au’ra saw no reason to refuse, and with vim and vigor Halditar clashed their cups together. Ale spilled over their fingers and onto the table, but that was worth a care as she brought the metal rim of the cup to her lips and chugged. The final swirls of alcohol swallowed down her throat with a satisfying burn. She stifled a burp that tried to bubble up from the act, as Cotota then rushed to follow her action. The other’s eyes widening as the shorter girl chugged the whole fresh cup in a few gulps. When she gasped for air at the end, Halditar grinned and clapped, impressed one who was not familiar to ale could down a cup, so quick. Her eyes alit with a sort of primal excitement the dragoon was very familiar with. The rush of spirits in the veins and encouragement, good food and good company making for the most wonderful cocktail.
Halditar filled their glasses once more. This time Cotota clashed their cups together, though much more gingerly than the roe was wont to do. It was funny to exchange cheers and drinking habits of foreign lands with no words. Over unfamiliar food, in a land that was even less her home than Eorzea felt like. But it was a familiar comfort, a small warmth in her chest the Warrior of Light would cherish against the cold.
-
I couldn't get as many thoughts and feelings in Halditar as I wanted. But hey, that's what this is for, practice. Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed and have a good day.

What the fuck, Ringo.
He could say the same to me, and I won't deny that, but still ... hopefully it doesn't bite him too hard in the ass, given he's got a family, and all.
So, the Pearl is growing, I guess, which means they need more space to put everybody in, which means they had to relocate to a larger building, which means a great big shuffle to get everything moved to a bigger building. You never realize how heavy a couple tonzes of dirt actually is until you watch people try to move planter boxes about.
Coincidentally, I managed to scrape together enough gil from odd jobs and such to move my stuff into an apartment right near the stables Baby's staying at. I still made a point of scooping up one of the company rooms in the new place, but it's on the small side, more of an office you could maybe live out of rather than a proper apartment. Given the dimensions I think it was meant to be a broom closet, to be honest, but it's mine and I've never needed a lot of space.
Baby's doing better, by the by. I've not been writing, with everything going on, but yeah. He got over the bird sniffles without incident, and now he's actually big enough to train for riding, even flying. Right now he can only carry lalafell about, but a year or so and he'll be full-grown. That's not a lot of time to learn everything he ought, and being that I'm not an expert, I'll leave it to the experts.
My cycle came and went, with bad decisions as usual. Probably should just play like I'm deathly ill, bar myself in my room until it passes, but that never seems like a good idea in the moment.
Did you know, there's a word for the kind of magic we do? "Hemomancy," magic relating to the blood. One of the more common uses is to just do what we do, burn it to refill a dwindling wellspring of aether. From what I've heard, it's really common among blackbloods, too - being a dark knight is more about will and martial might than a mastery of magic. It's not impossible for an archmage to don full plate - it's just not terribly likely.
I lured out my stalker, finally. Quiet little thing, for a mandragora - it pretty much takes the fear of death to elicit a cry from it. I think of it as a 'him,' but I doubt seedkin think of gender the same way we do. They've got a language, all squeaks and gestures, nothing I could begin to emulate, but if I listen, I can understand.
Which is disorienting as fuck, when the person I'm talking with isn't even talking.
Cotota was really excited that I could understand what she wrote and what she meant, when she talked all in gestures. It feels shallow, somehow - I still don't know what the gestures actually mean, and I couldn't replicate them if I tried, but when she 'speaks,' if I listen, I can understand. It apparently extends to text, she wrote something in a Xaela script, and while she was writing it, I heard the words as though she were speaking them. She wasn't, though, is the thing - Cotota was Qestir, and they don't talk.
I guess they've got this idea that words are lies, which is only half-right, in my opinion. You can pick out the truth of a person by listening to how they say things as much as what they're saying. Only a fool listens only with their ears - there's more truth in how words are spoken than in what's really said.
Looking back, I remember that Au Ra fellow I met at the Bountiful Chest. He was so angry - he felt the Echo was a really invasive gift, the sort of thing that should be exterminated. He's not wholly wrong, is the thing - without the degree of control I've had to develop ... it's indisputable fact that the Echo does simply erase many of the barriers folk put up between one another. The thing is - those barriers exist for a reason. Many reasons.
No one should know how it feels to die until they've done it - and I do.
Thanks, Hydaelyn. I appreciate your "gift."

" This game you mention. How long does it last and how does one exactly...win? " the xaela glances over the item in her hands with growing intrigue. Leaning in closer to better assess the cards and visuals placed upon them before gazing over to what her opponent has played. It isn't too long of a match before she's coming out on top, victorious, and Cotota is bringing her hands together to clap in encouragement. " Perhaps I should start collecting my own to play? "
