pookie i want to know about the boarding school au…..
im embarassed how much i thought about this and how long this is. bye forever.
we go to an international school together. zaynes parents work with doctors without borders but my parents sent me away to live with other family because i was getting into a lot of trouble back home and they thought it'd be a good opportunity for me to learn so i could inherit the family business. (i do not wish to be landlord. it never happens).
it's a super bougie 3-12 school but i think i probably transfer in 4th grade. we are complete opposites but we end up in the same place all the time. zayne is extremely studious and enrolled in several curricular (in my mind calligraphy and chess) and he spends almost all of his time studying. like. not even an exaggeration.
he is a top student and always places consistently and im kind of a bum. i think as kids im probably more into the arts but i usually place last in everything except like. english and lit. he thinks im stupid for a long time until he catches me in the library reading comics and im very articulate. wants to not think about it but hates that i dont apply myself when im smart <- all of this happens in the 7th grade.
we become friends and i pester him in the library. all of the 7th thru ninth which is junior secondary. its mostly just me reading while he studies. we go back and forth about how he thinks im wasting my potential and im mostly sarcastic and deflective until we're closer to highschool.
his workload increases like ten fold as soon as we get to like. 10th grade because he needs to study for the gaokao among other things. its clear at that point i probably won't go to college and this kind of upsets him. we gradually drift apart. i think i probably take a general course and he takes something more specialized. he really tries to get me to go to college but i tell him im probably going to become a makeup artist / pursue cosmetology
closer to the end of 12th grade we see each other frequently. zayne has studied so extensively that he feels comfortable relaxing. i usually sneak into his dorm. we spend summers together but it's pretty much as friends and me accompanying him when he studies / forcing him to take breaks. sometimes he just sits and watches me play games when his brain cant continue.
i think im in love with zayne from 8th grade onwards. i think zayne probably falls later and only realizes it like . well into his first few years at college. we lose touch after graduation and then reconnect again i think right when he's entering his residency and decides to go to a free haircut thing hosted by a comsetology school. i cut his hair for him and we reconnect. i think he asks me out first and im like ! and e get together from there.
this is so long. im so embarassed thank you for coming to my ted talk. lord almighty
#answered#subzero#i have been KNUCKLE deep in this all evening man#FUCK im so weird thinking about this

Please make me a dummer doctor, nobody. You may have changed my body. But my mind is still intact.
"Oh your mind is still intact, Tomsas? Then tell me your name." Try as you might, the only answer you can give me, your doctor, is "Bubbles. My name is Bubbles." You don't think this is right, but for the life of you, no other names comes to mind. Bubbles just feels right. "Of course it is Bubbles. Now it says here you went to college and got top marks. Remind me what you degree you graduated with?" I am flipping through your chart to see that you have a double degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. "Cosmetology, with a minor in dance." You say excitedly without shame. You remember remembering things with numbers and algorithms code, but your head is filled with makeup, blush, bronzer, foundation, lip liners and so much more. The whole thing with numbers and computers is like a dream you aren't sure you even really had. "So you know how to look pretty and how to move your body. Is that right, Bubbles?" "Yes Doctor." "But you don't use your degree, professionally, I mean. You got a job dancing to help pay for school right? And that lead to more lucrative affairs?' As I am saying this you feel you memories being cannibalized by new 'memories'. 'Memories' of dancing topless. Men cumming on your tits. The proper techniques on how to give a blow job and titty fuck at the same time. How you paid your way through school with your sexy body, and that excites you. Then a new thought enters your head. You have no money on you now, there's only one way you can think of paying this off. I smile as I see you reach behind your back to undo your bra. "Your treatment was extensive Bubbles. I'll have the secretary book you for weekly visits. I think three years should cover all of it. Now, why don't you show me what your intact mind remembers about how to pay bills."

Anna Marie Tendler is a complicated woman, and my feelings after reading her memoir are complicated too.
TW: mentions of psychiatric hospitals, self-harm, suidicial ideation, disordered eating, depression, anxiety, general discussion of mental illness
“Men Have Called Her Crazy: A Memoir” follows artist Anna Marie Tendler in early 2021 as she voluntarily “checked herself into a psychiatric hospital following a year of crippling anxiety, depression and self-harm.” At this time, she is also mid-divorce with comedian John Mulaney, which is likely a significant reason why a lot of people wanted to read this book (spoiler: he isn’t mentioned explicitly, this is her story.)
The subject matter of this book is heavy. Tendler discusses her long history of depression, anxiety, self-harm by cutting herself with scissors, disordered eating, suicidal ideation, her difficult relationship with her mother, her storied dating history, her career high and lows, and her struggle to get the mental health support she truly needed.
The memoir bounces back and forth between her time in the hospital and “how did I get here moments,” often focused on her past relationships with men, frequently where there is an unequal power balance due to age or financial status.
The sections of the book focused on the hospital offered a unique perspective on what getting a mental health diagnosis/diagnoses can entail and the liberation you can feel when you finally have a name for what you’ve been struggling with.
Upon receiving her formal diagnoses Tendler tells her doctor, “I’ve learned so much and I’ve gotten so much out of hearing words put to the emotions I’ve been experiencing throughout the course of my life.” That validation is so important when you’re struggling with your mental health, and I appreciated the openness of those moments throughout the book. I’ll admit I even cried a couple times.
Critics have called the book too “male-centered,” but given the title, and the anxieties that Tendler is working through in her mental health journey related to past trauma, I believe that there was a choice to structure the memoir the way Tendler did.
However, it’s clear Tendler hates men. She discusses this at length throughout the book. She doesn’t trust the male doctors at the hospital. She doesn’t want to talk to the male patients at mealtimes. She mentions she’d prefer to have daughters if she were to have children. When she’s a year into her recovery process and starts dating again - she is disappointed by the men she meets.
I’ll admit, I did find this to be a bit much. While she certainly detailed some difficult past relationships with men, the amount of vitriol didn’t seem quite justified without a bit more context. Believe me, I know we live in a patriarchal society, and it hurts us all (yes, men, too), but I found this motif to be one of the least interesting Tendler explores.
Another sticking point for some readers is how Tendler discusses her career, which has not followed a traditional arc. She went to cosmetology school but never passed the board exams, so she was a shampoo girl. She studied photography for a bit. She designed Victorian lampshades. She has a master’s degree in costume studies. To her credit, she admits that she has often depended on her romantic partners' income and acknowledges the privilege in that.
I’ve seen a chorus of reviews stating that Tendler should “get a real job” or a reality check of some kind, and while I understand that it is easy to look at a late-thrities, white woman, living in a Victorian house in the Connecticut countryside, making a living as an artist and think negatively of that, but can we also acknowledge that not everyone is suited to work a desk job and the world also needs artists? I find the mindset a little tiresome to be honest, let the woman be an artist if that’s what makes her happy.
In conclusion, while I understand where the critiques are coming from, this memoir is an emotionally moving read about a woman experiencing one of the hardest seasons of her life and getting the mental health support she needed to become stronger. And at the end of the day, I really can’t be upset about that.
3 / 5 stars

My Journey (Fashion Design)
I'm obsessed with fashion, please let me know if there's a 101 class, blog or something else cause I want to know more! Keep learning...
So far what I've been doing it's:
* Learn how to draw (actually taking classes and I'm currently an art student)

* Reading books 📚 about the topic (if you all want me to come up with some titles I'll make it happen, just let me know in the comments) but here are some for now:
♡ The Sewing Bible by Ruth Singer
♡ Overdressed: The Shockingly High Cost of Cheap Fashion by Elizabeth L. Cline
♡ Fashion Design: The Complete Guide by John Hopkins
♡ So you want to Work in Fashion?: How to Break into the World of Fashion and Design (Be What You Want) by Patricia Wooster
♡ Trash to Trend (a doctoral thesis, Estonian Academy of Arts)
♡ Patternmaking for Fashion Design
♡ Sewing for Fashion Designers by Annette Fischer
♡ Atlas of Fashion Designers by Laura Ecceiza.
(I have more of course, but the list is quite long.)
* Downloading some apps (Vogue Runway happened to be so interesting!)

* Learn how to draw online thanks to several YouTubers + downloading some drawing apps
I still suck, but I'll get better!

* Listening a lot of music
* Learn some psychology and color analysis
* Read books that have nothing to do with it such as novels, because that makes my heart flutter and my mind gets creative. Sometimes I even try to draw something that some of the characters might be wearing...
* Bought myself a sewing machine
* I'm trying to have enough patience to figure out how to use it (thanks again YouTubers, for making my life so easy 😭🤧)
* Acknowledging how fashion industry especially fast fashion is contaminating our planet (check out this blog!) and trying to figure out the way to start with sewing but I'm too intimidated by it rn 😭💀
* Studying how to re-do my portfolio, (because thank you internet for existing!)
* Studying make up on my own and learning some of the basics of cosmetology, because that's another passion of mine.
* Studying business and fashion marketing
* Realizing that technology is advancing so fast, nowadays there's even sprays that can create dresses or AI combining with holograms that will make our life as designers a bit more easy when choosing a fabric. But they can also put everything at risk if there's nothing to protect us as humans that create these beautiful clothes we use every day.
Keep in mind that I'm a self taught student. Sometimes I take classes to cover certain aspects but I don't think I am an expert at all in the field. If you have a recommendation, a comment or something you want to share to help me with my path I would really appreciate the feedback.
I'm currently looking for YouTubers that help me covering the basics of sewing and learning about fabrics, especially about fabrics! I'll keep y'all posted.<3
