Brian may x reader : finding real love

Notes: reader is a dress maker for people of high status in London she even makes dresses for queen Victoria herself. one day brian may and his fiance come in to get her a dress for a upcoming ball. Unfortanetly brian isnt in a very loving relationship with his soon to be wife for she's very controling and some times straight up mean and abusive. They are in an aranged mariage. Reader and brian fall in love.       

(Late) Victorian au (1880s no exact year). Catherine Green is a random name i chose for the wife. I hope you guys enjoy reading.

Late victorian era, London

In the center of London was a small shop but not just any shop, it was a dress shop called y/l/n Splendour Dress and co.

It wasn't a verry big establisment but it was really special, for even queen victoria herself had comissioned dresses here, only the people of high sosity could afort these dresses.

A carriage pulled up infront of the shop, a few seconds later the bell went of to sigal someone has entered, a man and a woman walked in.

The man was pretty tall and had dark curly hair he also wore a suit (he doesn't wear a hat) the man was very handsome. The woman had blond hair and wore a elegant hat her green eyes were fierce and angry while the man his eyes were hazel and kind.

A woman came from the back about (your age) and stood behind the counter "good afternoon sir and madam how can i help you?"

"I would Like to comission a dress for my fiance"

"Alright any thing spesific, a tea gown, an walking suit, or a day dress

The woman cut her off with an angry tone "no nothing like that im here to comission a ball gown"

"Now calm down Catherine, im verry sorry about that"

"Oh don't worry its alright sir"

"May Brian may and Catherine Green"

"Ah alright mr may and missed Green" please do follow me so that i can sketch some ideas out and so that we could chose the fabric"

"Lead the way madam"

They came across an other woman in the hall "Oh Alice could you perhaps boil some water so that we can have some tea?"

"Yes of course y/n it be ready in a few"

"Thank you after you are done you can take a break" they walked further and came to a room "please do sit down , first we can chose the fabric then we can sketch a design"

"I want my dress to be red and black they are my favorite colors" she smirked

"My darling are you sure of that i mean its a ball after al you it would be beter if - " Brian was caught of

"No absolutly not i want my dress to be red and black" she folded her arms

"Alright darling as you wish"

"I want the black fabric to be made of embroyderd silk and the red fabric made of cotton."

"With or without a train madam"

"Without"

"alright, anything els?"

"Yes i want black lace on the sleeves and red little bows made of silk there as wel"

"Alright madam, is it good that we decide up on a design of the dress now?"

"Yes go ahead"

"About the bodice and the sleeves what lengt would you like them?"

"Im sorry to interupt but here is the tea"

"Ah thank you Alice, you may go take a break now" Alice walked out the room again and closed the door "where were we? Ah yes the bodice and sleeves"

"I want the sleeves at elbow lenght and the bodice low so that it shows off my figure"

"Ah Alright, what about the skirt?"

"I want the under skirt to be a flounced underskirt and the under side of the dress to be made of the red fabric with silk ribons, at the front of the dress i want black lace going down. And the over skirt i want that to be the same fabric as the bodice."

"Alright madam" y/n looked at the sketch in front of her "is this what you have in mind?"

"Yes a hundred precent "

"Alright madam i wil ask my employees to look for the fabrics we would need"

Mr may who had been listening and drinking his tea the whole time spoke up "how long will it take to make?"

About 3 months sir if everything goes as planned"

"Wonderfull you hear that darling"

"Oh yes fantastic, make sure the dress is done by then because in 3 months there will be a ball at Buckingham palace and i want to look absolutly perfect"

"Yes of course miss we will try to get it finished by then"

"Good, thil next time" Catherine stood up And walked out the room

Brian did as well and held out his hand to y/n "Thank you so mutch for your time miss y/n, please you must excuse my fiance for being so rude"

"Its alright mr may no problem at al, tell me is your relationship a aranged one?"

"Unfortanetly yes, within a year we are to get Married unless i find somone i love"

"I hope you find the right person mr may"

"I hope so to, again thank you very mutch" he grabed y/n her hand and kissed it

"My plesure mr may, i hope you have a wonderfull afternoon"

"May we meet again" he smiled and

walked out the room

*little time skip*

Y/n was looking For the fabrics she Would need " Um Alice do you have any idea where the black embroyderd silk is?"

"Yes its on the top shelf next to the purple silks "

"Thanks, oh could you grab te maroon/red coton and a flounced underskirt/petticoat as wel"

"Yeah sure who is this oder for?"

"For miss Catherine Green"

"Oh i reconise her she has come in a few times to comission dresses her sizes are noted in our book, she's truly terrible she had 3 husbands already and now she's going to get Married to that poor sir may"

"Yeah i don't think they are a good couple eiter, both are from high socity what is sir may his feeld?"

"Hes an astrophysicist of the royal court of queen victoria"

"Oh wow so hes one of the highest in that feeld how extraordinary"

"Hes smart and not looking bad eiter"

"Yeah , i really feel sorry for him.... we need to get started the dress needs to be done in 3 months"

"Are you going to the ball to y/n?"

"I don't know i mean"

"You are also of high status because you make dresses for her royal highness, you deserve to go"

"You think so?"

"I know so, but first lets get started with making misses Green her dress first"

"Alright"

*time skip to 3 months later because im lazy*

The day for the fitting came y/n and Alice hoped everything went as planned.

"Good morning sir may and miss Green"

"Good morning miss y/l/n" he took her hand and kissed it

Miss green sighed "Is my dress ready?"

"Yes its ready please do follow me to the fitting room"

"I know where it is"

"Alright miss, i'll be there in a minute"

Mr may stood next to y/n "Im so sorry about the way she acts i talked with her about it but she won't lissen"

"Its fine mr may"

"Please call me Brian its my name after all"

"Alright wel then you can call me y/n.... tell me do you love her?"

"Who? Catherine? If i could be honest with you y/n then no absolutly not"

"Are you considering breaking off the arrangement?"

"If i find the right person then yes of course"

"I really hope you do you deserve better brian"

"Thanks you y/n"

"Y/n?" Came the voice of Alice

"Yes comming!, follow me brian" both of them walked in to the fitting room "miss Green how does it fit?"

"I want the corset to be tighter"

Y/n walked behind the curtains"Are you sure miss it already looks tight enough"

"No i want it tighter"

"As you wish miss" y/n undid the lace of the corset and tugged as hard as she could "i hope this is better"

"Perfect now is Brian here?"

"Yes"

"Good, oh Brian dear what do you think" Catherine stept from behind the curtain snowing her ball gown

"what do you think?"

"I think it fits you perfectly dear"

"I take it" she went back behind the curtain to get changed again

"How mutch does it cost?"

"About a 150 pounds"

Brian grabed his wallet and drew the right amount "here you go"

"Thank you" y/n stuffed the money in her apron.

"Will you also go to the ball?"

"I would love to but unfortanetly i have work there are many dresses that have to be made"

"I can take over for you with Mary, y/n" said Alice as she was sewing some beads on to a evening coat

"Alright i will try and see, when is it?"

"About 2 weeks from now"

"I will try to make it" she smiled softly

Brian grabed her hand softly and kissed it "thill then my lady"

*skip to the day of the ball*

"Have you decided what to wear?"

"No, i simply din't have the time to make anything" she sat down and sadly siged

"Oh cheer up, wait i remember something, we have some dresses that wern't colected mabey there is something in there for you"

"oh yeah thats true lets look" she stood up And walked in to the far back where a closet stood with the said dresses, she opend it up And looked at them , "i don't remember making these"

"I think your parents had been working on these last year they are pretty mutch still up to date"

"For who were these?"

"If i remember corectly these were ment for a baroness, but she and her

husband got killed before they could collect them"

"These are absolutly wonderfull "

"It should be about your size lets fit them"

So y/n did that and grabed al the dresses and tried them on, everything was exactly her size

She decided to go with dress number (insert number here) "i see that some things got lose we still have time"

Yes we do now come on we need to prepare"

About a few hours later the dress has been looked at, Alice had put y/n her hair up in a fancy evening style and added some hair accessoires.

"so how do i look?"

"Like a real princes oh before you forget these come with the dress" she held out a box y/n opend it inside were a pair of earings a necklace and tiara and a fancy hand fan

"Oh these are wonderfull" she put the necklace around her neck and put the earings in

"These were also met for the baroness" Alice placed the tiara on her head "you have to leave now a carriage is waiting"

"Alright, are you sure you can manage?"

"Don't worry to mutch it be alright me and Mary can manage just fine

"Alright" y/n put her evening coat on and picked up the train of her dress "its going to be late"

"I know dear now go and have a lovely evening"

"I will thank you for the help"y/n walked out of the back door trought the garden out of the gate, she climed in the cariage and sat down. The cariage went on its way to the palace. About 30 minuts later she arived and stept out die left her coat in the carriage. Y/n walked inside the palace up to the grand staircase to the ball room.

Music could already be heared when she walked up the staircase and once she arived the music was mutch louder.

Once y/n stept in to the ballroom a lot of people looked at her wondering who this beautyfull woman was dressed in fine fabrics and jewels.

"Miss y/l/n is that you oh how wonderfull to see you here you look extraordinary"

Y/n turned around at the mention of her name "sir Mercury its so great to see you, wearing my wonderfull suit i see" she smiled

"Oh yes its absolutly wonderfull my dear " he kissed her on the cheek "tell me why are you here?"

"Wel sir may had invited me to come along"

"Ah i see, if i remember corectly he was talking with sir taylor near the table overthere"

"Thank you"

"I have to go now my dear sir deacon needs my assistance"

Y/n smiled at him and walked to the table where sir may was indeed talking to sir taylor. Next to sir may stood miss Green, the was clinging to his arm. He looked a bit anoyed. "Sir may"

brian turned around "ah miss y/l/n so great to see you" he shook off Catherine and walked to her and softly grabed her hand "sir taylor this is y/n y/l/n the seamstress, she makes fabouls dresses, coats, shoes and suits"

"Nice to meet you miss" he said in a flirting tone, sir taylor grabed her gloved hand and put a kiss on it

"Like wise sir taylor" she smiled softly and put her hand to the side. Y/n could feel somone glaring at her when she turned around and came face to face with Catherine. " Is everything alright miss Green? "

"Yes everything is perfectly fine miss y/l/n" she said with an snarky tone.

Y/n looked down at the ground, sir taylor ofered her his hand "would you like to dance miss"

She looked up "Of course" she grabed his hand and they both walked on to the ball room floor

"You know i don't like her either"

"Who?"

"Miss green, sir may deserves better" said Roger while they both danced across the floor.

"Yes he does, they arnt the perfect fit for echoter Brian deserves somone who's kind"

"Someone like you"

"Why me?"

"The way you carry yourself very eligant yet kind and soft spoken, he really deserves you miss y/l/n". As the dance ended they both bowed to echoter and walked to the side where Brian stood alone drinking his wine

"Brian, you should dance with miss y/l/n I bet she will Enjoy your company while i go looking For my fiance"

"Alright Roger thank you," Brian held his arm out "care to dance?"

"Yes of course" she smiled and they both walked on to the ball room floor again. When they were done with the dance they walked to the doors "brian can we please go outside for a bit i need to talk to you"

"Yes of course" they walked in to the garden and dat down on a bench

"Look its probably not my place but you really should break of the arrangement Brian"

"Why?"

"She really doesn't deserve you brian she doesn't love you she will make you feel misereble"

"You are right but i can't break it off unles i found somone ells"

"Wel i know somone who would love you for ever and always"

"Who would that be?" He looked at her with a questionble look on his face

"What about me? Do you think we would be a good fit?"

"Perhaps if its really what you want"

"Im asking you brian, its important that you find somone who will help with continuing the family line"

"Yeah you are right" he sighed and put his face in his hands, his shoulders started to shake as he softly cried while you sat beside him

"Brian i really want to help you trough this"

"Y/n Im torn between an arrangement and real love" he looked up at her while the tears runed down his cheeks.

She softly whiped the tears away with her gloved hand and then placed it on his cheek "you have two choices Brian follow your heart"

"I choose real love" he leaned down and placed a soft kiss on her lips "i love you y/n y/l/n"

"BRIAN WHAT IS THIS!!??" They both turned around to an angry Catherine running at them, they both stood up And Brian stood in between y/n and Catherine.

"Im breaking off the arrangement"

"You can't do that you have no right"

"I do because i am the hire of the family titel and you are not this is oficialy over"

She looked from Brian to y/n " You did this you took him from me!"

"No she din't i simply took love instead of money thats all"

"You know what i never ever wanted to be yours Anyway you are not good enough for me i don't know what my father saw in you" she walked away with a big huff

"Im so sorry about that"

"Its alright im not blaming you"

"I ment what i said, i really love you" he huged her close and gave her a kiss on the forehead

"I love you to"

They both went back inside to tell sir Mercury, taylor and deacon the good news about their arangement

Brian and y/n found love in eatch other and lived a long and happy life together

Part Three

AN: Imma be honest, I’m not happy with this part. I feel like my brain isn’t entirely ready for writing yet, it’s still wired to argue cases so please bear with me as I get my shit together. I still wanted to give the people who follow this story something though (you have no idea how happy I am about every single one of you) and I sincerely hope that this is good enough, apologies if not :)

You felt foolish really. It was as if your entire life had turned into a soap opera overnight. You wouldn’t call yourself cynical by all means, you loved love and everything that came along with it far too much for that, but you would’ve at least described yourself as rational.

Up until now.

Up until now you’d been convinced that if people really wanted to, they would be together. Up until now you’d been a believer of where there’s a will, there will be a way - relationships that would classify as statutory rape excluded of course, age was a bit more than just a number in those cases - but you, you, you had been stopped by the Bro-Code, which was just absolutely ridiculous.

Imagine telling that to your parents: Hey mom, so I met this great guy but I can’t do anything about it because he’s friends with my ex. Your grandma would straight up laugh in your face if you told her, the badass bitch had married her former lover’s rich best friend after she’d gotten the news that her fiancé hadn’t survived the war. Without needing to call her you knew that she’d tell you to go for Mat in a second, no matter how much she’d adored Tito back then.

But you weren’t your grandma and Tito hadn’t died in a war so here you were, pining over a guy you couldn’t have and practically living out a tragic romance novel. Technically you didn’t even know if Tito would have anything negative to say about the entire situation, it may all be water under the bridge by now, but you also couldn’t just casually ask him without giving anything away.

The only good thing about this situation was that Tito had brought a great group of people along with him into your life. He’d always been good at making friends, that certainly hadn’t changed from when he was younger and since the two of you had hit it up again your friend groups had seemingly merged without issue. It sure made for an interesting dynamic. You’d had some explaining to do whenever you initiated someone new into a group that also included your ex, but the result was definitely worth it.

Spending time with Tito was just as easy as it used to be, back before feelings complicated everything. Somehow you’d managed to fall back into a completely platonic relationship, one that worked just as well when the two of you were alone as it did with others around.

You’d missed having him around the years before, his view on things and the way he’d always managed to make decisions easy by providing simple solutions.

Should you get a puppy right now? - No, your apartment is too small for a big dog right now and no, you also shouldn’t settle for a purse-sized dog because you’ve always wanted a big one since you were little.

Maybe a cat instead? - No, you are allergic to cats, don’t be stupid.

What about one of those naked ones? - Also no, you need to bathe those frequently because of the built up oils on their skin and you don’t even have a bathtub in your apartment.

(You really had to bathe those from time to time, you’d looked it up. Apparently they could still trigger allergies as well, which straight up sucked.)

Should we grab Thai or Chinese? – Chinese, you told me about this new place you wanted to try out like three days ago.

What can I do to stop this one coworker from belittling and making fun of me? - I’ll help you make her jealous, how about some courtside seats to watch the Nets since she likes basketball?

The last idea had actually come from Mat (since Tito didn’t know shit about basketball), who had also pulled some strings to get four tickets so you could attend the game with Dana, Tito and him. Mat had even taken some pictures of Dana and you in your jerseys and at the game so you could post about your night excessively on your social media, making sure that said co-worker would see it. They’d also given you a tour of the building and you were surprised to say that their locker didn’t smell as bad as you’d expected.

Said coworker hadn’t said anything ever since by the way, but you could still see her lurking on your Instagram.

For all the advice Tito provided you with, you still hadn’t asked him the one thing you needed an answer to:

Is Mat off limits?

But you couldn’t do that and therefore it somehow became a normal thing for Mat and you to walk on eggshells around each other after the “incident” at the bar.

From time to time there were moments that made it blatantly obvious how good things could be – the time he’d excitedly side hugged-you after the Nets turned the game that one night before realizing what he’d just done and quickly letting go, how he’d found you in the crowd and looked straight at you after scoring a goal at one of his games before being swept away by his teammates or simply how you could see him looking around until he found you whenever your group met up – but they never lasted more than a few seconds.

The two of you were stuck, neither of you wanting to hurt Tito’s feelings. At least with your big group moments with Mat alone were rare. They still happened from time to time though, especially since the majority of your friends wasn’t even aware of your dilemma, which was why you found yourself in the passenger seat of his car on a Friday night.

Emily’s boyfriend Rafael had finally returned from a two-month-long work trip to Spain and was dead set on making an authentic recipe he’d been taught over there for everyone. Unfortunately he’d made the mistake of putting Emily in charge of getting the needed groceries and in true Emily fashion she’d forgotten to buy tomatoes. Something neither of them had noticed until Rafael had wanted to start cooking as soon as everyone arrived at their place. Maybe Emily had done it on purpose or maybe she hadn’t been thinking properly in that moment, too caught up in the fact that her lover was with her again, but she’d tasked Mat and you with a last-minute errand run to the store.

You couödn’t stop yourself from checking out the wine aisle though, leaving him waiting behind, dutifully holding a bag of fresh tomatoes and checking his phone while you inspected the options. Rafael had asked you to bring some wine as well but the one he’d requested was apparently out of stock.

“Barzal”, you called for his attention, inspecting a label to try and figure out if it was a suitable replacement, “you think Rafael would like this one?”

As you turned around with the bottle in your hand you were taken by surprise by Mat’s proximity. You hadn’t even noticed how close he’d moved until now and for a couple of seconds you were caught up in your daydreams again. He seemed to struggle with the same thing, his pupils blown and his breathing growing uneven while the two of you just stared at each other. His lips were so close and so incredibly inviting, his mouth slightly agape.

If I leaned up on my tippy toes right now I could-

You quickly stopped yourself from finishing that thought, looking down so you had a couple of seconds to gather your thoughts, thoughts Mat seemed to infiltrate constantly. By the time you dared to look up again he was running his hand across his face in frustration before slowly breathing out and returning to his cool and collected regular self.

“I’m the wrong person to ask this, he was drinking some red wine earlier and the one you picked out is obviously red but that’s about it. Wine culture is definitely lost on me, sorry. I prefer beer.”

“Stereotypical hockey player through and through, I see.” Later on you’d tell yourself that the smirk that followed made your brain short-circuit, because there was no other way to explain why you’d keep on flirting otherwise.

“Maybe one day I’ll teach you, only if you’re nice to me though”, you teased, maybe in an effort to take control over the situation, maybe because you simply couldn’t stop yourself but his laugh made your heart soar for one second, until you remembered why this shouldn’t be happening.

Maybe you simply were an undiscovered masochist because even though you knew you should stay away from him you kept finding yourself in situations like this one way too many times. Deciding that you’d simply drink the wine by yourself if anyone had an issue with it - drowning your sorrows seemed like a great idea either way right now - you handed him a second bottle before moving to leave the aisle and in turn his personal space.

Making eye contact with Colin standing a couple of meters away from you got you to do a full 180 though, almost smacking into Mat in the process, who had obviously followed you towards the cashiers.

What was it with Mat and you?!

While a collision was thankfully avoided, Colin’s presence could cause other problems, since he hadn’t exactly appreciated you breaking off things over a month ago. Because you hadn’t known him for long it had taken you longer than you liked to admit to realize that he was a manipulative bastard, you weren’t proud of that, and you had no idea how he’d act right now.

“What’s wrong?”

“My ex is over there and I don’t want to talk to him. Is he walking in our direction?”

Mat lifted his concerned glance from you to look over your shoulder so he could be on the lookout.

“If he’s the one wearing a Gucci hoodie that is so obviously fake then yes, he is walking in our direction.”

You let out a snort at the casual burn but you weren’t too happy about having to face Colin right now. He hadn’t even crossed your mind in these past few weeks but for him to cross paths with you while you were with Mat of all people seemed to be yet another one of these odd twists of fate your life seemed to attract lately. Maybe your guardian angel had decided to start a meth lab instead sometime recently, there was no other way to explain what was going on instead.

“Uh.. you look good, don’t worry, he’s definitely the one that missed out. Do- do you want me to pretend to be your boyfriend or something?”, Mat stuttered out nervously, probably noticing your anxious shifting and you couldn’t help but smile at his words, despite him being wrong about the reason behind your nervousness.

“Thanks for the offer”, you gave him a gentle smile of reassurance before continuing, “but no, it’s not about the way I look or anything like that, I don’t give a fuck what he thinks of me because he’s an idiot. I just don’t want him to cause any problems and if I could I’d just run away from him forever so he doesn’t have the chance to ever ruin my night again.”

“Well I’m no expert on forever, but I’m here right now and I say fuck that guy”, he responded and with that he grabbed your hand and started running towards the cashiers, leaving you with no other choice but to run along with him so he wouldn’t rip your arm out of its socket.

Oh how you wished you had a picture of the expression on Colin’s face as Mat and you ran past him, hand in hand and cackling like maniacs.

He was apparently too stunned to follow you as you fought over who would pay for the stuff - Mat ultimately winning - but you didn’t let that stop you from running all the way to this car as well. Of course hand in hand.

Masochist.

Somehow the weird tension between the two of you seemed to lift sometime during your little sprint but you weren’t sure if this would be permanent or if it was a spur of the moment thing. You’d be damned if you didn’t enjoy it while it lasted though.  

The entire ride back you couldn’t stop thinking about the way his hand had felt in yours and what a perfect fit it had been, desperately wanting to feel it again as the two of you sang along to the songs playing over the speakers, perfectly happy in your little bubble.

As Christmas approached Emily roped everyone in to accompany her on her mission to make Rafael appreciate the cold that taken over New York. According to her he dearly missed sunny Spain but all you could see was a man who was happy to be home again. You weren’t about to tell her that though, you’d long figured out that whenever she’d set her mind to something it was best to simply follow along. Everyone else had apparently come to the same realization because no one objected to her plans.

Emily wanted to take Rafael ice skating and since the Rockefeller Center apparently wasn’t good enough and too crowded, she told everyone to meet at Pier 17. Dana and Mariah were on board of course and you’d managed to convince Tito to come along, who had in turn invited Mat.

In a ridiculous attempt to not get spotted, both Mat and Tito had donned a pair of glasses and while you were used to seeing them on Tito by now, seeing Mat with them again knocked the breath out of your lungs for a second.

It had been almost two months since you’d last seen him like this and the fact that you hadn’t recognized him that night seemed impossible to you now. Maybe it was because you’d gotten to know him since, seeing him in real life instead of only on pictures and memorizing his handsome features in the process but as you tried to get a good glance at him without anyone noticing you realized that he’d never be Clark Kent to you again.

Whether that was a good or a bad thing was still left to decide though.

“Need help with those?”, Mat’s voice ripped you out of your thoughts. You’d been so lost in them that you hadn’t even noticed that everyone else had already laced up their skates and walked out onto the ice while you’d been staring at your hands for who knows how long, laces wrapped around your fingers but not doing anything. Tito and him had brought their own skates while everyone else had to rely on rentals and his were already laced up perfectly of course.

You nodded, despite full well knowing how to do it yourself but you weren’t about to stop Mat from pulling your leg into his lap so he had better access. Besides, you’d stupidly forgotten to bring gloves and you’d gladly take any chance to leave your hands stuffed inside the pockets of your jacket as you rapidly got colder.

His fingers worked quickly, tightening the laces with expertise and you watched his hand moving in awe.

If hockey ever wasn’t an option for him anymore, hand modeling definitely was. He had such nice hands, strong and big and perfect. For a quick second your thoughts drifted to what else they could be capable of, before you reeled them back in, mentally scolding yourself. It really wasn’t your fault, not thinking of him seemed impossible these days.

His eyes were mostly focused on his work but from time to time he’d lift his gaze and give you a small smile, one you happily returned despite the mess inside your head. He had just finished tying the second one when someone banged on the glass, making the both of you jump a little.

“Ayo Barzy get your filthy paws off Y/N!”, Tito yelled before zooming away again laughing loudly, leaving an awkward silence behind.

Was this just Tito being his usual little-shit-self or was he actually serious?

For a couple of seconds you couldn’t do anything but stare at Mat as he looked down onto his hands, one of them still loosely wrapped around your ankle. Carefully you pulled your leg off his lap, set both feet on the ground and got up.

It was apparently time to face reality again.

You waited until there was a break in the throngs of people circling around the rink before stepping onto the ice, muscle memory from your childhood kicking in immediately. Once you were convinced that you weren’t going to fall on your ass you did a couple of little spins until you were facing Mat again, who had followed you. He looked at you with a slack jaw and you laughed at his expression.

“You can skate?!”, he asked bewildered and you laughed again, moving so the both of you could skate beside each other at a relaxed pace.

“Obviously. Sorry to ruin your late night fantasies of teaching me how to skate but I’m a good Canadian girl and I did some figure skating when I was younger. I actually used to be pretty fast.”

That caught his attention and you smiled at the way he looked down at you with a conspiring grin.

“Oh yeah? Show me what you got then”, after a couple of seconds of contemplation he continued, “last one to reach the others owes the winner coffee.”

You looked around to find the rest of your group, spotting them on the other side messing around. Of course.

“You’re on, Barzy. I hope you’re ready to lose though”, you winked at him before racing towards your friends, leaving him and his exclamations about you being a cheater behind, now definitely not cold anymore.

Something in your relationship seemed to shift after that, at least whenever you were alone with him. Things were still difficult around others, especially with the way Emily kept prodding you for updates and Tito constantly disturbing the few moments you had alone with him. You weren’t sure yet if he did it on purpose or if he simply had awful timing but it wasn’t like it made a difference.

Christmas came and passed just as fast, the team leaving for a roadtrip shortly after. You’d celebrated New Year’s Eve with your friends in a club, unable to kiss the person you wanted to either way so your lips had stayed untouched as the fireworks went off at midnight and the days following.

Tito had announced that the guys would return later in the day though, already making plans in the groupchat to meet up tomorrow. While you wondered where he got all this energy from you suspected it was a way to distract himself as the trip hadn’t been successful - to put it mildly. In reality they’d ate shit, losing all of their games, some to teams that should have been an easy win.

It was hard to watch on TV but even harder to talk to the guys afterwards.

A couple of hours later you sat on the couch, a book in hand that you’d meant to read for weeks and enjoying staying in on a Friday for once. You were so lost in the story that it took you a couple of seconds to realize that someone had knocked on your door.

Who could that be?

Tito or Emily were most likely to show up unannounced at your day but you knew that Tito would be on his way to his home so he could sulk by himself and Emily was away on a ski trip with Rafael. Unwrapping yourself from your fuzzy blanket you padded towards the door, taken aback by who was waiting on the other side.

“What..”, you trailed of questionably, not even sure what you were going to say in the first place.

Mat looked so out of place in the dimly lit hallway, dressed in a suit that fit him so nicely, bag set on the ground next to him.

“Can I come in?”, was all he said and you nodded, unable to bring yourself to say anything else.

How could you even refuse him?

You didn’t move from your spot beside the door and after taking off his shoes he took a couple of steps inside your apartment, hanging up his coat before turning back around to face you.

“You’re probably wondering why I’m here but if I’m honest I can’t even tell you. I just didn’t want to be alone tonight and since you seem to constantly be on my mind either way..”, he trailed off, seemingly gathering his thoughts before continuing, “I don’t know if you watched the games or-“

“I did and you don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to”, you said softly as you interrupted him, sensing his apprehension. You decided that you weren’t about to touch his admission of thinking of you all the time with a ten-foot-pole, instead focusing on the rest of his sentence. He looked so broken and lost standing there so you couldn’t help but take the few steps it took to reach him, wrapping your arms around him in a tight hug.

You knew from personal experience with Tito that athletes tended to take losses personal and if you had to take a guess you were pretty sure that Mat was one of those guys that blamed himself for them as well.

At first he seemed surprised about your bold move – it was the most the two of you had ever touched so far – but he quickly caught himself, hugging you even tighter to his body. For a couple of seconds you stood just like that, simply basking in each other’s proximity.

It was as if your bodies were made for each other, your head resting perfectly in the crook of his neck. Despite probably just getting off a plane he smelled so good and you were trying to figure out if you could take a deep breath without raising any suspicions. Before you’d managed to make a decision however, he pulled away and you unfortunately had to untangle yourself from him.

“Feel free to stay as long as you want to”, you said to fill the silence, leaving out the part where you hoped he’d stay for the night as well. He simply nodded before asking where he could change into more comfortable clothes. While you were sad to see the suit go you directed him to your bedroom, glad to have taken those thirty minutes earlier to tidy up.

He returned in a pair of grey sweatpants and a hoodie and it took every last remaining bit of your willpower not to drool at the sight of him. Somehow he managed to look even better in sweats than he did in his custom suit, which really wasn’t fair at all.

You had to admit it was a little weird to see him in your apartment though. He’d been over a couple of times to pregame etc. but he’d never been here alone. Somehow it felt strangely intimate to have him over by himself on this Friday night. To prevent your thoughts from going to a direction they definitely shouldn’t, you asked:

“Do you want some tea? I know technically you still owe me that coffee but I’ll be generous and let you off easy this time.”

For good measure you even threw in a wink at the end and your words had the desired effect, breaking the loaded tension completely.

“You cheated! I would’ve won if you hadn’t started early”, he exclaimed but the way he was laughing showed that he was anything but butthurt about the situation.

“Mmm keep telling yourself that, it’s okay”, you kept on teasing as he followed you into your small kitchen that was definitely at maximum capacity with two people in it. You’d be lying if you said that you didn’t enjoy the closeness the tight space prompted though.

With a steaming mug of tea the both of you settled onto your couch shortly after, also small enough to keep you close together. You’d been wanting to buy a bigger one for weeks, but right now you certainly didn’t mind its size.

Masochist.

“Oh I love that one, the chimpanzees are so cute”, Mat said to your surprise as he finally realized what was playing on your tv and you looked at him in utter disbelief. You certainly hadn’t pegged him for a guy that liked to watch nature documentaries but yet here he was, constantly surprising you.

“What? Documentaries are very soothing”, he defended himself and you had to laugh at the way he looked like a little kid with his floppy hair and the cute way his eyebrows had scrunched up.

“I know. That’s why I love watching them as well.”

You hadn’t exactly pictured yourself watching documentaries with him on a Friday night, something that felt way too domestic if you were being honest, but yet here you were.

As the hour grew later both Mat and you sunk further in the cushions and while you had no recollection of how exactly it had happened, your head apparently ended up on his shoulder somehow. Your only regret was that now it wasn’t as easy to sneak glances at him from time to time without him noticing. At one point he’d even wrapped his arm around you, moving both of you into a more comfortable position before covering your bodies with the fuzzy blanket and the steady rhythm of his heartbeat lulled you to sleep before you even knew it.

The soft sound of your name woke you up sometime later, you weren’t exactly sure how much time had passed but the credits of the second documentary you’d started were already rolling and you were pretty sure you’d only caught the first half of it. In your sleep you’d cuddled up even closer, your arm wrapped around Mat’s midriff and you quickly sat up, embarrassed about turning into a koala in your sleep. Maybe you could blame it on the documentary?

“Sorry for waking you but I should probably head home. Otherwise my back is going to kill me tomorrow.” His voice was a little hoarse and it was obvious that he’d fallen asleep as well, his hair now sticking up in multiple directions. You suppressed a giggle at the disheveled sight of him, instead appreciating that he let down his guard enough for you to see him that way.

“Yeah of course. I’ll show you out.”

“Thank you for tonight. It means a lot to me”, he said quietly as he stood by the door, ready to leave.

“Anytime Mat. Get home safe.” It was the first time you’d called him by his first name, after months of first calling him Barzal then Barzy and he must have noticed as well because his smile could probably make glaciers melt at this point. You weren’t even sure why you’d given up your pathetic way of distancing yourself from him – despite the fact that it was very much obvious that it wasn’t working – but to not call him Mat would feel wrong after this evening.

“Have a good night, Y/N”, he simply said, still smiling as he leaned down to kiss you on the forehead before walking out the door, leaving you speechless.

RWBY V8E3 LiveThoughts

Its Saterday and that means its time for everyones favorite post spam; Orca-mun bullshits about RWBY! And here we go.

On a personal note I barely ate anything today so my brain is jittery. I ate something before this of course but one does not solve low-food jitters instantly. So we’ll see how this goes.

Also the more that I hear the opening for this season the more I hear things that I have had Ash say before.  “The hope to change the world is just a childish dream”. It comes off in the song as kind of a poke at Ruby and her team, same way as how V3s opening was all about loosing and falling, but here I cant help but hear it in the voice of Ash, caustic and sarcastic, angry at the world for his own issues and putting it onto the “blind, naieve Huntress’s” Ironwood now has his team focused on.

Actually again, a lot of the song is talking about stuff that is probably coming up in the show. “The path we tried to avoid is already here”. “Path home is suddenly clear”. Basically hinting RWBYs going back to Vale at some point. But we knew that already.

And again, the part with time stopping while Cinder walks among the fighting reminds me of a shittier version of the I Know You trailer for Halo Wars 2.

And now the episode actually starts. Apperently, riding the pnumatic tubes does NOT instantly kill you. Im...half dissapointed. At the same time it makes sense, they seem to be fully sealed so. 

Doesnt seem like its fun though thats for sure.

And we finally, FINALLY get some reference on the storm. Shorter Atlas trooper sayd “they cant get too close to that storm without getting shot out of the air”.  Okay...so Salem actually has defenses against airships? Couldnt they have SHOWN THAT?

Also, props to the female VA for sounding like AN ACTUAL FUCKING SOLDIER. “CO can get us some answers”...hell yeah. And then Nora’s randomly a dick for...no reason.

Nice to have some data on how Ruby’s semblance works though. She apperently breaks herself down to her component molecules and negates her mass and HEY thats how I said Ash moved! DAMMIT RT

Also I guess Remnant follows SOME laws of physics.

New York. The only place in the entire world, where robots were being developed. Robots, that looked exactly like humans, and there being only one distinctive difference, a tattoo. One that said RA-H.

An RA-H. Robotic animated humans. These androids are helping the world as much as it is destroying it. They force people out of jobs, but in doing so create even better things then humans. Thousands of different political views, millions of haters and lovers. And then there's me.

Malia Blanche, 17, I lost my father, and I was the spitting image of my late mother. I only recently moved to LA, where my life was bombarded with these new androids, I get the concept of them, although I don't truly understand it.

Well, on with the story shall we?

-Chapter One.

Sunday, the day before I start college. A new life, a new story and a new beginning. I can finally pursue my dream of being a writer, just like my mother.

My mother attended John Brown college academy  , her department was romance, mine, mystery, ever since I was a child I thrive for solving mysteries, actions, you know in the movies where there's a fight scene, and it goes slow motion and they throw the punch of victory, thats what ignites my fire, the thrive for doing good, but in a dangerous way, I could always figure out who was lying in a movie, or who the murderer was. Maybe I should be a detective, but my flow comes with writing.

Although I was attending my new school in a day, I lazily decided to stay in bed until half 10, I needed to be at Realsons&Co for 11:15, to get my uniform fitted. John Brown is a very pretentious academy, and I'd worked three jobs, and poured my heart and soul into getting here. Only the best attend the Academy. I don't necessarily fit into the 'my daddy got me in here' well, obviously. I quickly slipped on my jeans and jumper, and slid into my most prised possession. Although it had been pre-owned. The Audi was my mother's, she put her heart and soul into the car, and I will respect her decision and keep the car.

I take out my GPS although I already know where my fitting shop is, as I pass it a few times on the way to my grandma's.

Carefully parking in the visitor section I leave my car, and walk up the steps, and enter the shop, the bell above my head dings and an elderly woman pops her head up and immediately smiles at me. 

"Are you Malia?" The woman asks putting her newspaper down and picking up a signing book.

"Yeah, I'm not too early am I?"

"Of course not, dear.  I'm Molly, my grandson Will, he's in the back, he will measure you up if you need anything readjusting or if you can't find anything your size. John Brown, Deanford and Attenwood are in the back left." She says pointing in the direction.

I thank her, and mentally thank that the place is practically empty. I don't like small talk, thanks social anxiety.

Walking through the back I spot John Brown uniform. A black blazer with red linings, a short black skirt and a white blouse and a dark red tie. Not too childish but not suitable enough for adults.

At the corner of my eye I see a tall boy sat on his phone, his eyes flicker up for a second at me, then back down to his phone.

I continue my search to look for the right size for my uniform when I feel a pair of eyes on me, it makes me feel uncomfortable and I start to guess that the pair of eyes is Molly's grandson Will, I mentally scold myself for being so awkward and pretending not to know that he's watching, when I hear his chair scrape my heart decides to do an athlete course and I pray he can't hear it from where he's standing.

I can tell he's now behind me, as I face my social fears I turn around and slam right into his chest, and in result dropping all my stuff, Will snorts, before helping me by picking up some of the clothes that dropped.

"Thanks," I say, grabbing the clothes from his hand and attempting to walk past him, but his arms stop me.

"Was that sarcastic or not?" He asked smiling. I take a second to take in his looks, he doesn't look as bad as I thought he would, but he doesn't act like a arrogant guy either.

"I'll let you figure that one out," I smile politely back, "I'm Will." He says moving his arm in a posh manner to let me through.

"I know, Molly told me," I answer, "I guess you know who I am?" "Yep, how could I ignore a pretty girl like you?" I mentally roll my eyes at the typical boy. "Mhm, well I need to get changed so excuse me" I say speed walking away from him, boys that make comments like that make me feel extremely uncomfortable.

As I turn the corner to the fitting rooms, I hear Will's voice once again, "I'm gay by the way," he says laughing, I stop in my tracks, suddenly feeling a bit stupid.

Checking that I haven't left any clothes behind, I pile them onto the counter, where Will is now standing, he starts to put all my clothes in an expensive looking plastic bag, he looks up at me, "Sorry about earlier, I was just messing about." "No, it's okay, I felt a bit silly when you said you were gay."

He shakes his head and laughs, "most people do, well the ones that aren't stuck up with money up their ass usually do." "Well I'm only here on a scholarship, so I'm not one of them people," I say handing him over the small fee I have to pay, as the scholarship covers most of it. "Surprisingly so am I, I got accepted for Athletics at John Brown," I never really though I would but I guess I should thank the Lord, my parents can't wait to get rid of me anyways, being gay has a price to pay, apparently."

"Well, they obviously don't see the good person that you are." I smile at him, although I wish he hadn't of brought it up, I'm not necessarily the best at giving advice.

The bell rings, and a tall, slim girl walks through.

"Tanner" she says walking through right into the back without a second glance.

"I understand what you mean by stuck up," I whisper, Will chuckles and passes me my bag, the girl walks back and stands behind me, not even two seconds later she starts tapping her foot and complaining.

"Since when do we serve nobodies, Will? That's right we don't. Now move, thanks." She says pushing right past me and throwing her uniform on the counter. Luckily it wasn't a John Brown one, otherwise I might've just about died.

I quietly wave at Will and walk out, seeing a shining white Porsche outside. Seriously where do you even get one that looks so shiny from?

I put the bag in the passenger seat, still feeling annoyed about the girl, as I reach my small flat,   I lock my Audi, and read a movie poster about a girl going missing  with her extremely ill dad. Making a mental note to watch the movie later, I walk up my stairs and unlock my door, I make myself a cup of tea and order some pizza, as I walk into my room, I open up my laptop, and have three new emails, one spam, but two from publishers. My heart does leaps as I open the first one.

As I send the email I let out a squeak of happiness with pizza in my mouth. Clicking onto my word pad, I let myself fall into the world of fiction, and let time slip through my hands.

And that's how it is now 3.36am on a Monday trying to start a new story, anything to take my mind off the upcoming day, and the extremely embarrassing 'Tanner' fiasco.

I push my chair back from my old, ridden desk, and flop onto my bed, snuggling into my bedsheets, this has been going on for a week, for some reason I have no flow, the biggest writers block, I have stories everywhere across my room, started, just the plot, a thesis, a blurb. But recently I haven't found anything to give me that push. I turn and toss in an unsucsessive attempt to sleep, and as I check my phone it is only 4 am.

Great, no sleep for the wicked.

Groggily, I turn over in my bed and look over to my clock, 6.07am. Throwing my bed covers over, I lazily get up and put on the uniform that luckily fits perfectly. Thinking about my email yesterday, there is nothing more that I want in the world then my writing to become known. Realising that I spend too much time daydreaming, and badly making pancakes, i'm late and have no time to see if I have a reply. Already. Typical Me.

Rushing out of my door, checking the contents of my bag to make sure that I have everything that I need I speed walk right into someone walking up my door, crashing everything they were holding onto the floor.

"God I'm sorry, I didn't mean too, wasnt looking where I was going." I look up and realise that, I wasn't even speaking to a human, but none other then an Android. It simply says, "No worries miss," and continues with its day. Those androids are the ones that Robert Morett himself created, word is that his son is attending John Brown. Although i'm here with a writing scholarship, I doubt he'd need any type of acceptance letter. He could just ask, he is one of the most richest people in America.

Pulling my keys out of my bag I speed walk towards my car, carefully throwing my bag in, and starting the Audi, before starting my drive I pull out my phone to the Maps app, although I used to drive past John Brown to get to school I still want to be prepared.

Pulling up at the academy, I notice a few eyes staring at the jet black Audi with the tinted windows, they're probably expected a drop dead gorgeous girl, or the sexiest guy

to walk out, but in all honesty I'm neither.

Turning off my car and stepping out the eyes are suddenly averted to another jet black car, most likely a gorgeous boy or girl in it.

My mind wavered at wondering whether I should stay and stare at the person in black, or be late to my lecture.

Achieving my dream comes first.

I promised my mother that I'd focus on my work, and not get distracted. I intend on keeping that promise.

(SINGULAR) WEEK!!!! as opposed to ianto’s longterm girlfriend being turned into a monster and eventually murdered by his own team!!!! Like, i understand that’s owen’s problem actually goes beyond that, and its not so much about diane herself but about the fact that he let himself feel close to someone again after his fiancee died but for us, The Audience, watching this as it airs... we haven’t unlocked owen’s tragic backstory yet. and without knowing all that it just makes owen look really bad and like a huge fucking tool lmfao.

- NEVERMIND THE END IS GAY AND SAD AND Y’KNOW!!!!!! i am a man of simple pleasures, at heart, and so... i’ll let it slide. jack meeting his namesake knowing that he’s going to die and them having a moment is more of the kind of emotional content we would get in episodes of doctor who, and its Just Right

Okay liiisten, i know this is an art blog and all but... writing is a form of art right?? The art of writing?? Well whatever I've just had this Prompto fanfiction on my phone from the time me and my friend compared writing styles so here!! Have it!! Have this angsty-ish fluff! Enjooooyyy 

 Icy blue eyes Strawberry blond hair Shining white teeth A slim body with muscles And a charming smile.

The medias view on beauty forced upon the new generation. Prompto fit their description almost perfectly; still happiness never seemed to fill his heart when he thought of his appearance. When he thought of his appearance he felt sick to his stomach most of the time. He was proud of how far he had gotten but something still bothered him. The weird pigment in his skin. The dots decorating his cheeks and shoulders, similar to the stars lighting up the night sky but thats not how he saw the spots dirtying his skin. They just looked like something that should be washed off with a wet cloth in his eyes.

 Blue eyes meeting blue eyes. Sweet smiles returned by the cold surface reflecting them. Prompto was sitting in front of his mirror while putting on his most charming smile, his hands awkwardly covering his cheeks in an attempt to see how he looked without his freckles. He didn't see squat shit with his hands over his cheeks like that. As he let a small frown crawl onto his face he also made his signature pout following it before he leaned in close to the mirror, staring at the weird pigmented spots on his skin in displeasure. "Why did I have to be born like... this..." he mumbled to himself and maybe the mirror in front of him too, maybe the reflection would suddenly change and show that he didn't have freckles if he was nice to it. His stomach turned upside down as he stared at his freckles, then his whole face and then his whole body, the freckles on his shoulders peeking out from under his shirt. Trying to lighten his heart a little he started to comically poke and pinch his cheeks, pulling on the skin and making faces to try and rid himself of the dreadful feeling coursing through his body.

 His weird faces and nips stopped abruptly though as there was a knock on his door. Since he wasn't expecting anyone he was quite surprised by the sudden noise, even jumping slightly and quickly turning towards said door. He waited for a few second to see if it had just been someone visiting his neighbors but when he again hears three firm knocks again and he realizes that it must be for him. He takes a last glance in the mirror to give it a pained smile before he actually got up from the floor. "I'm coming, I'm coming!" He half yelled to the person on the other side, jogging over to unlock the door and opening it. He didn't bother peeking through the peephole and instead just opened the door with a plastered on smile. "Wassup, Sunshine~!" Your face lit up as you saw Prompto opening the door, his fake smile quickly turning into a real one once he sees it's you. Before he can even greet you back you hold out your arms, indicating that you're waiting for a much wanted hug which you received with no hesitation. He pulled you to his chest and wrapped his arms around your neck since he was a little taller. The hug felt awkward and your face was pushed into his chest but you wouldn't want it any other way. "H-hey [name], I didn't expect you to visit today..!" He had loosened his hug to lean back at stare at your face in surprise, good or bad surprise you didn't know honestly. "Yeah I know but I was around and I misssseeeed youuu~ So... I bought some snacks and hoped we could play some video games tonight!" You managed to break away from his hug to show him the plastic bag filled with snacks just bought from the store down the street. Prompto stared at them and he tried to grin like he would normally but something stopped him and the only smile he could managed looked more sad then anything. It was easy to notice his unnatural silence since it was rare that he actually managed to stay quiet for more then two minutes and now it seemed like he could just sit and stare into space for hours. When he didn't say anything you got concerned but shrugged it off as maybe him being tired or something. "But I mean if you're not feeling up to it I can just head home and come back tomorrow if you want!" You tried to make sure your voice sounded cheerful and happy so he wouldn't feel bad if he turned your down but instead he just looked at you with wide eyes before quickly shaking his head, his blonde hair shaking left and right with his motions and getting in his face. "N-no! Please, come on in! Let's get some games ready and eat those snacks, we wouldn't want to waste them right?" He gave you a smile and even though it wasn't as genuine as usual it was enough to convince you that you were wanted so as he stepped to the side you walked in. "What do you wanna play tonight? Got anything in mind?" Prompto closed the door behind you and tried to make small talk as to not make any awkward silences. "We still got that co-op game we rage quitted last time..." he walked towards his kitchen to get some bowls for the snacks and even though he raised his voice for you to hear him it still lacked that usual cheeriness and it sounded like he was talking to stranger or a mutual. "Ooooh yeah that one! We still got that boss to kill, right? I really think we can do it this time!" You had already taken off your shoes and jacket before sitting down on his familiar couch, placing the bag of snacks besides you on the ground. It didn't take long before Prompto was back with bowls of varying sizes to pour the snacks into and that was done quickly as well. "Then let's do that." Again... such a normal answer. It didn't fit him and you weren't sure what to do. You didn't reply to him but instead pulled your knees up to your chest and wrapped your arms around your legs, intently staring at your boyfriend. He felt slightly uncomfortable under your stare so he didn't do much but shift in his seat. 

"Prompto... you're not acting like yourself... what's wrong?" As your words reached his ears he froze. He tensed up and felt a knot form in his throat when you asked him what was wrong because he got caught in his fake happiness and he didn't know how to react. Should he be happy that you care so much about his well being or sad that he couldnt even keep you from worrying about someone like him. He didn't look at you and instead just looked down on the floor by his feet, mentally discussing with himself if he should ask you what you thought of his appearance or not. He weighed the cons and pros carefully.. well he wished he had, instead his mouth talked quicker then his mind could keep up with and suddenly he blurted out something not even he was prepared to ask. "[Name], what do you think of freckles?" You were surprised by his question; why would someone ask something like that? What did you think of... freckles? It was such a... weird question but he seemed so nervous asking about it and yet you didn't know what to say. "What do you mean?" You had to know what he meant before you could answer. "W-well would you prefer me with or without them?" He quickly looked up at you finally, his hair getting slightly disheveled from the sudden movement and a few strands landed in his face. His jaw was clenched, already regretting that he even asked such a stupid question and the knot in his throat was almost suffocating. Tears started welling up in his eyes as well but he desperately tried to hold them back at instead his vision became blurry from them. At this sight you almost panicked, why did such a small thing upset him so much? Why wouldn't you want a Prompto with freckles? You tried your best to sputter out something to comfort him, something along the lines of "Of course I'd want you with freckles, I love everything about you" but before you could even get the first word out of your mouth Prompto was already using the back of his hands to try and dry the tears as he shied away from you in embarrassment. "N-never mind! Never mind.. t-that was a really stupid question, sorry I shouldn't have asked.. that was... really stupid.. j-just forget it! Uh games right? Uh co-op and that boss yeah?" He desperately tried to smile again as he looked back at you but tears kept welling up and spilling from his eyes no matter how many times he tried to wipe them away with his hands. It was so heartbreaking watching him like that and your quickly scooted over to him, gathering yourself from the initial shock and confusion as you cupped his face with your hands. He tried to avoid eye contact by looking off to the side to the TV, his lips forming to a tight line as his chin twitches as he tried not to cry. "Prompto... Prompto look at me... look... I love you, okay? That's why I'm with you. And you are so beautiful and handsome and it's literally heartbreaking to know that you don't see that. I know I can't make you see yourself like I see you just like that but I will try my best to help you see just a portion of what I see. And about your freckles; of course I'd want you with freckles. They don't change who you are and I would have loved you even without freckles but darn it if I don't love them." You could see the corner of his lips twitch up as you said "darn it" and the tears had finally stopped forming. His eyes had during your talking actually moved to look you in the eyes as you spoke and even if he felt scared doing that he still trusted you enough to comply. You yourself was smiling slightly and you leaned your forehead against his as you closed your eyes. He couldn't; he was too mesmerized by you and your dedication to make him see what you saw, it truly filled his heart with happiness. "So please Prompto, don't think for a second that you are not beautiful... not just because I'll be sad but because you deserve to feel confident in yourself. And I swear to six that I will kiss every freckle you got until you know exactly how much I love you AND your freckles!" Your opened your eyes again to give him a playful grin and he couldn't help but laugh at your promise. His finger which had in the beginning been digging crescent markings into his palms were now idly fiddling with the end of his shirt as he smiled at you, almost unable to contain how happy your words had made him and even in the dark room, only lit by the TV screen still on in the background, you could see that he didn't quite believe that you would do it even though he appreciated the comment. "What? You don't believe me? Oh, I'll show you!" Your hands moved from his cheeks to the sides of his head as you held it firmly while starting to pepper the boys cheeks and temples with short kisses, blowing up your cheeks to make the kisses even sillier. "H-hey [Name]! S-stop thaaat! Y-you can't possibly kiss them all!" "I can't? Is that a challenge, Argentum?" Prompto was finally laughing out loud, playfully nudging you to stop though his attempts were barely even half hearted. You loved hearing his laugh again, especially after hearing his dull voice before and it felt like this was the sixes last gift to mankind. Your silly kiss attack went on until you were both out of breath and Prompto had his arms firmly wrapped around your waist, carefully holding your against his chest as he tried to regain his breathing. "Do you think i kissed them all now?" You teased him, poking his nose with a cheeky grin. "Well all on my face at least!" He laughed back, lovingly just bonking his head against yours as his hands were occupied. "Aaah I'll kiss the rest of them..." you took a pause for a dramatic effect and of course it worked on the cutie listening to you as he looked like he was hooked on every word you said, intently waiting for the answer. "After we beat that boss!" You grinned at your decision, managing to slip away from his grip as he sat up properly, exclaiming his dissatisfaction with a loud groan. "Hah, groan all you want, it won't help us beat this boss though~!" "I know, I knooow... let's just get this over with! Ah.... by the way [Name].... thank you.."

Homeless rider

My phone dinged. A rider. My very first rider. I grabbed the keys and was out the door and on the road in the blink of an eye. The perfect tunes were playing and the air conditioner was blasting. I was prepared. Ready to become the best uber driver this town has ever seen. My attitude changed as I realized what the the pickup location was. The soup kitchen. I threw my car in park and waited for my rider. Praying he or she would be a volunteer. Suddenly the doors to the homeless person haven burst open. Well fed hobos and nicely dressed volunteers flooded the stairs. One large man broke from the crowd and made his way over to my car. The door ripped open and a musty stench filled my nostrils. ¨Hi is this for Ricky?” I nodded at the dirty man entering my car. His graphic t shirt was much too small and his pants many sizes too big. His peppered white hair brushed the roof of the car, sprinkling dirt onto the center console. I pretended not to notice. ¨Where we heading?¨ He smiled a toothless grin. ¨The poker room down the street. I want to beat the heat today you know what I mean¨ I let out a short convincing laugh. ¨I know exactly what you mean sir.¨ Though I did not. A homeless man taking an uber from the soup kitchen to the casino. Was this some sort of joke? Multiple of questions raced through my head but I somehow managed to speak the one of least offense. ¨Is there a poker tournament going on today?¨ He nodded and grumbled scratching his chin. ¨Yes there is. And I am going to win it all. You see I volunteered today and that got me good with the lord. Also I completed my mandated service hours so Im good with the government. And in addition to that. I got a free breakfast which makes me good on the entry fee if you know what I mean.¨ This time I did know what he meant. I nodded. ¨You any good at cards uber driver?¨ I nodded again. In fact I was very good at cards once upon a time. But those days are over. I inhaled a long, slow breath, pushing back the memories. The excitement. ¨I used to be. I don´t exactly gamble anymore¨ I added. ¨Why don´t you gamble anymore¨ Because I don’t want to end up like you. ¨Because you don´t want to end up like me¨? Did he just read my mind? ¨Ha I just read your mind I can see it on your face. Tricky Ricky strikes again!¨ ¨Can you read minds?¨ I asked falsely He shrugged. ¨Its happened before.¨

We pulled up to the poker room and Ricky reached for the door. ¨Hey what do you say you come in there and play a few hands. If my mind reading thing kicks back in, shit we could take it all!¨ I forced a smile, ¨No thank you Ricky. But it was nice getting to chat. Good luck in there.¨ And I pushed the smelly homeless man from my car. I drove home and cleaned my car before returning to the patrol. What a strange first ride. Luckily it is over and chances are, I will never see him again. Thats the life of an uber driver I suppose.

Suddenly my phone dinged. Another ride request.

I took a left and a right then another left until I found myself sitting infront of the old tall hotel in the heart of downtown. Out the revolving glass door walk three gorgeous young women. Each of them supporting their own university with a different sweatshirt. Make up applied and shorts worn high, the three coeds walked up to my car. I rolled down my window and all three poked their heads in at once. ¨Is this for Stacy¨ ¨No I ordered it.¨ ¨Why does it smell like hobo in here¨

I managed to resist letting my eyes roll. As the three girls crawled into my car

¨Where are we headed?¨ I asked.

¨Uhm Im pretty sure the app tells you where to go?¨ Two of the girls giggled as the third shook her head smiling.

¨Don´t be so rude. We are headed to the poker tournament thanks for asking” She added kindly.

More tournament participants. Maybe the tournament is more popular than I expected.

“So what are you ladies studying in school” I asked, trying to make conversation. “Education! Stacy and I are going to be teachers!!” “Most important job in America. Good for you two.” Two of the girls beamed. “What about you” I asked the third girl, our eyes meeting again in my rear view mirror. “Psychology and Philosophy. I like it a lot so far.” “She is the smart one if you can’t tell. She’s going to be a psychiatrist one day.” I chuckled. “Very cool”

Moments later we found ourselves infront of the poker room. The three girls started to get out of my car when the nice one turned back and asked me if I would like to join them. Flattered. I smiled. ¨No thanks¨ and the door closed as the three girls raced into the poker room. My phone dinged. Another rider.

I pulled up to the same hotel as before, and waited for my rider. In front of the revolving door stood a lone man in a blue suit, sporting a leather briefcase in one hand, and a cell phone in the other. his eyes hidden behind dark sunglasses. He let out a wave, and I returned his signal. ¨The poker room on the east side please¨ Another poker player? ¨Sounds good. We will be there shortly.¨ Without request the businessman to proceeded to inform me of each and every dollar value attributed to the accounts he manages. He was a big financial manager in LA. I was surprised with how many of his clients I was familiar with. As well as how much golf he apparently played. But not one part of me cared about any of the haughty words leaving his mouth. ¨Very cool sir¨ I said carelessly as we pulled up to the stop. ¨Incase you ever make it big¨ I turned to see the man handing me his business card. And he was gone.

So it was back to patrol for me. I cruised the town, desperate for more riders, but My phone did not ding once again. So I returned home. Kicked off my shoes, and began making dinner. I cracked open a can of coconut milk and began stewing a curry as I flipped on the TV. Not a bad first day of uber driving. I thought. I wonder how that poker tournament went for everyone. To my surprise, the answer to my question appeared on the screen infront of me. ¨Well it looks like this is going to be the final hand tonight. The final three players are all in.¨ On the tv sat three characters at a round green table littered with paper anplastic. One was a well dressed business man with a girl under his arm. The other a ragged vagabond with a fem sitting upon his lap. And finally, in the third seat sat a beautiful young woman, draped in a university sweatshirt. I reached for the remote and turned up the volume. ¨This is the first time ever that no professional players made it into the final 3. But tonight one of these amateurs is going to walk away with it all. Stay tuned, right after this commercial break.¨ My keys were in the ignition before they cut to the advertisements and I was in the back of the poker room, standing out of site, just as the coverage returned. ¨And we are back. Thanks for sticking with us folks. Well it looks like all three players have laid down their chips. The only thing left to do is see what lies on the other side of their cards.¨ One by one each player revealed their cards. The business man sat straight, forcing his face to appear relaxed but the only emotion he portrayed was fear. The double major coed chuckled to herself, knowing her defeat was eminent. And Ricky slumped in his chair, inhaling his cigerette, truly calm and at peace, as if he had foreseen the outcome. The room erupted as the results were realized across the room. The ragged, scruffy, stinky man who had been in my uber only hours before had just won more money than he had ever seen. ¨I did it! I won.¨ His head spun around, his eyes looking for someone to share this moment with until they met mine. ¨Uber driver! It’s me Ricky. Come over here man¨ I walked towards the center of the room and reached out my hand for a congratulatory handshake only to have it slapped away as Ricky wrapped his long hairy arms around me and pulled me close. I returned his embrace then pulled away, dusting the newly attained dirt from my clothes. ¨I guess the mind reading trick worked for ya eh¨ I joked. His eyes widened and he looked over his shoulder before lowering his voice. ¨Your shit right it worked. I knew what cards everyone had that entire game. It was like taking candy from a bunch of babies¨ and two of the girls buried their faces into the phone while the third sat quietly, her eyes out the window.

I didn´t know whether to believe him or call him crazy. I decided to do neither. ¨So what are you going to do now.¨ ¨Celebrate!”

What followed can only be explained as insanity. Ricky and I hit every bar, strip club, and casino in town until our lustful desires had been satisfied and we were too drunk to find our way home. I somehow resisted the urge to gamble and didn’t spend a dime, While Ricky threw away hundred dollar bills as if it were chump change. But he continued to win and win until we found ourselves outside the bar, standing in the alley. “What a night. Im gunna be rich ya know. Im gunna be a even more rich than I am right now once I get all this shit invested. Ya before the tournament started some business type guy handed out his card to every player. Told us if we win he can turn our winnings into even more money. Imagine what he’s gunna be able to do with all this!!” Ricky fanned out hundred dollars bills infront of my face. ”Hey are you even listening to me.” I was, or I was at least trying to. My head was resting against the outer brick wall of some bar and my eyes were closed in an attempt to cease the spinning of the world around me. I managed to string a few letters together into a word, but failed to create a full sentence. “Home” Then I slid down to a sitting position, my head in my hands with my back propping me up against the cool brick wall. The street lights were dim, and the sidewalks all but empty. The bars were closing down and the night was coming to an end. Suddenly a voice that broke through my drunken jumbled existence. “Hey its our uber driver from earlier! “Hey Mr. Uber driver its us! Remember us!! I raised my head from my hands to see a blurry vision of two young girls wrapping there arms around Ricky, dollar signs where their pupils should have been. A third girl moved out from behind the greedy two and towards me, a soft smile on her face It was the sweet one, the smart one from before. She knelt down beside me and started to rub my back. “How you feeling mr. uber driver.” Her calm words soothed my stupor. “I’ve been better. But I think I’m ready to walk home. My apartment is just down the street.” She nodded and relayed it to her friends who were now attached to Ricky. He smiled a toothless grin and reached out a hand to pull me up. Before long we were back at my place. Ricky took the girls to my bedroom, and the philosophy major joined me in the bathroom, talking to me about whatever she pleased as I emptied my guts into the toilet. “I love your apartment. You did such a nice job decorating it. The amount of house plants in here probably does wonders for your stress levels.” I nodded. “I just like having something to take care of.” “It’s nice taking care of things.” She chuckled and started rubbing my back again. She opened her mouth to speak but was interrupted by sounds of snores from the next room. She went to check on her friends and found them sleeping, cuddled up next to Ricky. “Well it seems like the other guests are enjoying their stay at the uber driver hotel. How are you feeling though.” I raised my head from toilet bowl and looked at my caretaker for the first time since we left the bars. Her smile was warming and her eyes deep with blue and grey colors swimming around each other. Small infrequent freckles dotted her face, and her rosy cheeks dimpled as she grinned. “What are you staring at. Never seen a girl before?” I opened my mouth to respond but before I could she leaned in and kissed me on the cheek. “I’m just joking. Say is there a roof on this building? If your feeling up for it, maybe we could get some fresh air, the smell of vomit isn’t really doing it for me anymore.” I nodded in agreement and she pulled my by the hand until we were standing on the rooftop under the starless sky, looking over the small city surrounding us. She walked over to the wall, preventing us from falling to our untimely death. Without a second of hesitation, she hopped up, and began walking back and forth on the wall as if it were a balance beam in a gymnasium. She sensed my uneasiness. “Don’t worry dad I know what I know what I am doing.” With elegance and grace she walked across the railing encircling the entire roof until she bored, and took a seat on the wall, feet dangling into the abyss below. She motioned for me to join her. “I think Im good on this side. Thank you though.” I made my way over to her and leaned against the barrier. ”Today feels like a dream” I mumbled. “Maybe it was. Maybe I’m not actually here. Wooooo” She wiggled her fingers, at me jokingly. “That homelesss man, I mean Ricky, his life has taken a one 180 today. This morning he was getting breakfast at the soup kitchen and now he has more money than he has ever seen in his life. You know he was claiming that the reason he won was because he could read minds.” “Maybe he can.” “You actually believe that is possible? What are they teaching you in college these days anyways?” “Lots of things.” She smiled changing the subject. “I can’t believe my friends were about to sleep with a homeless man just because of how much money he won.” “It was a lot of money though.” She laughed and nodded in agreement. Then she looked at me and put her hand in mine, “This has been a pretty exciting day. You know I had a feeling I was going to see you again after you dropped us off earlier today. And I was right.” “Im glad your feeling was correct. But im not sure I believe in feelings or premonitions either.” “Ricky would believe me.” This got both of us laughing. “What do you think he’s gunna do with his money.” “Probably gamble it all away.” She slapped me on the arm giggling. “I think he’s gunna pay off whatever debt he had and then give the rest to his family and favorite charities.” She thought for a moment tapping her chin. “Whatever he does with it, his life has been changed forever. And good for him. He seems like a decent guy. He deserves it.” Suddenly the door to the stairs burst open. Two girls appeared in the doorway, their faces white with terror. The philosophy major was to them before I understood what was happening. I began to feel dizzy as the reality of the situation dawned on me. “Did you do CPR?” “No we panicked. We thought you would know what to do.” No time passed and I found myself staring at a shirtless homeless man lying on my floor, a young girl seated near him, pounding on his chest. Her efforts were futile but the later paramedics would thank her for trying. The ambulance took him away, and I stood in front of the apartment, with three young tormented girls. It started to rain. Before long their ride was here, and I stood staring into the grey blue eyes from before, knowing I would never see them again. “Im sorry” she said, and then she disapeared into the back of the car with her friends and they were gone.

The Netflix true crime docuseries Making a Murderer will return for a second season on Friday, October 19, providing a fresh look at developments in the murder case that captivated so many during its first season.

The show, which quickly became a big hit after it debuted in December 2015, dug into the criminal cases of Steven Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey, both of whom were sentenced to life in prison in Wisconsin for the 2005 murder of Teresa Halbach. The second season will look at what’s happened since the first originally premiered.

Season one of Making a Murderer strongly suggested that Avery and Dassey were framed — that evidence was planted, and that police manipulated Dassey in particular into confessing to crimes that he, the show implied, didn’t commit. It built a lot on a previous false conviction against Avery for an attack in 1985 that DNA evidence would later show he was wrongly accused of.

In this, the first season painted a picture of a criminal justice system that was more interested in protecting itself — particularly from a lawsuit and the embarrassment that came out of the 1985 false conviction — than protecting the people the system is meant to serve. That, unsurprisingly, drew a large response on social media, with people objecting to the way Avery was treated.

The show also gave people a chance to play detective on their own. Lots of debates came about after the show’s release — about whether Avery was guilty, whether the show really presented all the important evidence, who could have been Halbach’s killer if Avery was not, and more. As is typical for true crime series, the show couldn’t and didn’t answer all these questions, leaving a lot of room for viewers to figure it out for themselves and talk to others about it.

At the same time, the first season was heavily criticized for leaving out some evidence that made Avery and Dassey look worse — raising questions about what dramatic liberties, as a TV show, the series took to preserve its overall narrative. While Making a Murderer’s creators answered some of those questions on social media, the second season now offers them a chance to not just look at what happened since the first season came out but also to address the lingering concerns.

All of this — the horror at the criminal justice system’s failures, the room for speculation and debate, and other arguments about what the show left out — culminated in a massive hit for Netflix that drew a lot of attention in the months after it was released.

The initial 10-episode run focused largely on Avery. He was originally convicted in 1985 of trying to rape and kill a woman, but DNA evidence exonerated him 18 years into his imprisonment — and, as the documentary shows, there were several mistakes made in the investigation.

These mistakes are crucial to Making a Murderer’s look at Avery’s second murder conviction in 2007. By showing that Manitowoc County officials and investigators overlooked pieces of evidence that could have exonerated Avery early on (including overlooking a suspect who was actually under surveillance and was later convicted of sexual assault), the documentary established early on that these officials were potentially incompetent or, perhaps, were motivated to go after Avery after he had embarrassed them and filed a lawsuit against them over his first wrongful conviction.

Building on these mistakes, the series questioned Avery’s second conviction. It focused a lot on the DNA evidence that linked Avery to the murder, suggesting that it was planted. It also played video of investigators’ interrogation of Dassey, which suggested that he was manipulated into confessing. In doing so, the series not only raised questions about Avery and Dassey’s innocence, but also about how easy it may be in the American criminal justice system to, well, make a murderer out of an innocent person.

That concern — that anyone could be framed in this way, especially twice — propelled discussions all over the internet about how outrageous Avery’s conviction was, what the show got wrong, what it missed, and the unanswered questions. It made the series a huge success when it first premiered on Netflix.

Netflix does not typically release viewership numbers. And some of the estimates out there suggest that Making a Murderer probably didn’t succeed in numbers of viewers in the same way that, say, Fuller House, Gilmore Girls, or some of the streaming network’s Marvel shows have.

Where Making a Murderer did succeed, though, is in owning the conversation on social media. As Paul Tassi wrote at Forbes at the time, “I have never seen a show consume the pop culture conversation like this outside of when programs like The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones kill off a major character.” (To this point, the Vox explainer I co-wrote with Alex Abad-Santos for the first season is still one of my most widely read articles.)

One reason for all the conversation was the show’s big moments and how it slowly teased out huge reveals in the same way a fictional drama might.

For example, the blood vial. One of the most significant pieces of evidence against Avery is that his blood was supposedly found in Halbach’s SUV (which was found on the Avery family’s property).

But in the documentary’s biggest moment, Avery’s lawyers reveal that the blood may have come from a vial of blood taken from Avery during his 1985 case. The big reveal shows that the evidence box that contained the vial was cut open, and that there was a puncture the size of a hypodermic needle in the vial’s top — something the county lab says it didn’t and wouldn’t do. As a viewer, it was a moment as dramatic and shocking as a Game of Thrones plot twist.

Beyond the major moments, the show also created a lot of room for debate. While it poked holes in the case against Avery and Dassey, it didn’t exactly give satisfying conclusions to some of the lingering questions — like who really killed Halbach if it wasn’t Avery or Dassey.

The show also raised questions about some of the finer details of the Avery case. Why was the key to Halbach’s SUV only found after multiple searches, and why did it have only Avery’s DNA but not Halbach’s, even though Halbach would have used the key for years? How did police find a bullet with Halbach’s DNA on it in Avery’s garage, but no other DNA evidence — not even the slightest traces of Halbach’s blood — in the same garage? Why did police find some of Halbach’s bones right outside of Avery’s home, but also some of them scattered through the Avery family property? Why would Avery move only some of these bones, and why would he move them to other parts of his family’s land, of all places?

All the questions posed by the case are made believable by the puncture in the old blood vial. If it’s believable that police may have planted Avery’s blood in Halbach’s car, what else would they have been willing to do? Plant a key? A bullet? Bones? The documentary pushed on this kind of questioning to build reasonable doubt in the audience’s mind, much like a good defense lawyer would for a jury. But it also left a lot of room for discussion and speculation.

Finally, the prosecution built much of its initial case on Dassey’s testimony. The prosecution announced Dassey’s supposed confession in a big press conference, implying that Dassey had provided a highly detailed account of what happened. But video of the confession later suggested that investigators manipulated Dassey, who was 16 at the time and may have a cognitive disability, into confessing with leading questions. Once Dassey lawyered up, he withdrew his confession, and the prosecution didn’t use it in Avery’s trial due to its very questionable nature.

This added yet another layer of outrage — and reason to doubt what police claimed about Avery.

And more broadly, the show provided an opportunity to discuss America’s criminal justice system. If Avery really is innocent, just how reliable is this system that is charged with incarcerating people, potentially for life, and even executing them? And what could that mean for anyone who’s caught by the system, including, perhaps in the future, the viewer?

The broader discussion about Making a Murderer also led to criticisms — particularly, that the series left out some evidence.

Ken Kratz, the state prosecutor who led the case against Avery, became very vocal, talking to publications like Maxim, People, and the Wrap to recount key facts that he claimed were purposely excluded from the series. (He is also now taking part in a separate documentary series about the Avery case called Convicting a Murderer.)

Kratz claimed that the series glossed over Avery’s alleged animal cruelty. He also said it excluded DNA evidence, besides blood, that was supposedly found in Halbach’s SUV. And Kratz said the series overlooked the ballistics testing that supposedly tied the bullet found in Avery’s garage to Avery’s own rifle. (These are just some examples. The show’s creators, Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos, later responded to some of the claims on Twitter and in interviews. They argued that what was excluded from the show was, generally, evidence that wasn’t important to the trial or was actually excluded from the trial because it was so weak.

From an entertainment standpoint, this is understandable. Making a Murderer simply couldn’t show every moment of footage from Avery’s trial, every single quote from the people who were interviewed, or every single detail of the case. If it had, it would be tremendously boring and hundreds of hours long. Some cuts had to be made somewhere.

The series’ creators have also emphasized that their goal was to highlight not just the problems in Avery’s case but also the broader flaws in the criminal justice system. In that latter sense, the show was a success: At the very least, it shows that Manitowoc County law enforcement officials were very shoddy, if not malicious, in their work — leading to, at a minimum, one wrongful conviction. If that can happen anywhere in America, it points to a big flaw in at least part of the criminal justice system.

Still, some of the questions about the specific details of Avery’s case linger. With a second season, Making a Murderer gets another chance to address the concerns.

Since the first season of Making a Murderer came out, there have been some developments in Avery and Dassey’s cases. The first trailer for the second season teases some of that news and how the second part of the series will cover them.

The trailer started with Avery’s reaction to the wave of responses he’s gotten to the first season. (“I didn’t think all of these people would care,” Avery said.) It also hinted at the developments in Avery’s case, like prominent Chicago lawyer Kathleen Zellner joining the defense. And it teased potential new evidence that could help Avery overturn his 2007 conviction.

That’s only the tip of the iceberg of what the show could cover. A lot has happened in the three years since Making a Murderer’s first season.

Here are the major developments in Avery’s case, based largely on continued reporting by the Appleton Post-Crescent in Wisconsin:

January 8, 2016: Zellner joined Avery’s defense, along with the regional Innocent Project’s Tricia Bushnell. Zellner has 19 exonerations to her name.

August 26, 2016: Zellner filed a motion for additional scientific testing.

June 7, 2017: Avery’s defense filed a motion for a new trial.

October 3, 2017: Sheboygan County Judge Angela Sutkiewicz denied Avery’s motion for a new trial. (A Sheboygan County court was put in charge of the case to avoid a conflict of interest, given Avery’s allegations against Manitowoc County officials.)

November 28, 2017: Sutkiewicz again denied Avery’s motion for a new trial, following Zellner’s request that the judge rethink her decision.

June 7, 2018: The Wisconsin Court of Appeals remanded Avery’s case back to Sutkiewicz, asking the lower court to address whether a CD — which Zellner argued was kept from Avery until April but contains exculpatory evidence — can be submitted into the record.

September 6, 2018: Sutkiewicz denied the motion to add the CD to the record, effectively blocking, once again, a new trial. Zellner said she will appeal the decision.

Here are the major developments in Dassey’s case:

August 12, 2016: A federal judge overturned Dassey’s conviction — declaring that Dassey’s constitutional rights had been violated and that investigators had manipulated him during questioning. It was, at least for the moment, a huge victory for Dassey, but he remained in prison while the ruling was appealed.

June 22, 2017: A Seventh Circuit Court panel upheld the lower court order overturning Dassey’s conviction.

December 8, 2017: After the case was appealed to the full Seventh Circuit Court, the court narrowly ruled against Dassey, leaving his conviction in place. The court’s dissenting judges called the decision “a travesty of justice.”

February 20, 2018: Dassey’s defense appealed the case to the US Supreme Court.

June 25, 2018: The Supreme Court declined to hear Dassey’s appeal — ensuring with near certainty that he’ll have to serve his life sentence, with eligibility for parole in 2048, unless his lawyers can convince a judge that there’s compelling new evidence in the case.

The second season will likely cover these events. But it also may get into more: Will it present new evidence in either case that’s not currently known to the public? What will it say about Dassey now that his fate seems set? What will it show about how the lives of Avery, Dassey, and their families have been affected by all the attention due to the documentary?

Waiting for these answers feels a bit like waiting for just about any other TV show on Netflix. But that’s kind of the point; it’s what makes true crime series, from Serial to all those shows on the History Channel, so captivating. They dramatize real-life topics and events that are deadly serious, including murder, with the same flair that you would expect of a fictional TV show like Dexter or The Walking Dead. But by using real-life events, these shows can also up the outrage and need to discuss what’s happening with others — since what’s depicted can, at least we’re often led to believe, happen to any of us.

So we wait for a conclusion to the storyline, or at least some answers, just like we would for other TV shows. With Friday’s second season premiere, we might get that. But maybe not — and we’ll end up filling the void with a lot of chatter on social media.

I've had quite a few discounts in CA but the jug-head agent in Oregon, not shifted any discounts to Oregon automatically. Passing a stopped school bus (which as far as i can tell is no points) they view as 8 points. My question is, can they do this? Exactly a week ago I was involved in an accident at the fault of another driver. The other driver's insurance company (USAA) has been sitting on the case not doing a damn thing. I had to call them yesterday just to get them to read my accident report, and accept liability. They hadn't even contacted the policy holder! They told me that they would set me up with a rental car, and cover the fees. Today I went to Enterprise to pick up the rental car and was asked if the insurance company (USAA) had mentioned anything about a underage bracket fee. When I told them that they hadn't, the woman at enterprise contacted USAA. It was then that they stated that they would not pay for the underage fee (I am 19), which is about $22 per day. Naturally, I was completely outraged. Both my insurance company and USAA's offices are closed at this time, so I have to wait until tomorrow to contact them. I was told by my agent that because the accident wasn't my fault, ANY cost that is a result of the accident MUST be covered by the other driver's insurance company. What can I do about this? Hi there. I have a question. I want to SUE my Car insurance company because they refuse to pay for my stolen car which is been more then 6 months and still hasn't been recovered. I was paying full coverage for about 4 months till the moment my Range Rover 1998 was stolen. After filing proper claims i get a letter from my insurance that they denied the claim. The reason why was because i misrepresented myself. and what they meant by that was that when i signed the contract i selected NO in a question ( Has your license ever been suspended or revoked) Now let me explain how this happened. I got the insurance thru my broker. Everything was done by phone. My broker happened to be family of dear friend of mine. At the time i asked for insurance my driver license was suspended already suspended and the reason why was because of child support for which i was going thru courts with my ex. First i decided to insure my car liability and my car was paid in full. On the liability contract it wasn't any question regarding my driver license either was suspended or not. After a week or so i thought to myself that if i get in a accident god forbid and it was my fault i have to may myself for damages and you know for such a car would be very expensive so i asked my broker if i can changed it to full coverage and so they did. on the day i did the change the girl that worked for my broker and assisting me asked me Klodian you are aware your license is suspended. I said yes and i explained the reason y. So she found this insurance company for a low price and she emailed me the contract to sign and fax it to her. now under the questions which i saw of course latter after i was denied claim i saw they were marked all NO and that was done on computer not hand writing. which of course in this case was done by the girl that helped me. Now my broker told me that insurance company should had run your driving record before they issue insurance to you and if they done that they were gone see your driver lisence was suspended. But when my broker asked them why they didnt run it Their answer was that they trusted me based on the contract i signed which to my opinion is BS. Now i want to sue them and all the lawyers they refuse to get my case and my believe is because my car is worth about $4800.00 and they don't see how they can make money out of me and i don't have to pay them up front. Now if i go on small claim max i can go is $3000.00 ????

BMW Z4 windshield insurance question... help please!?

Hi, I have a 2004 BMW Z4, and the rain sensor, for automatic wipers, has broken. Apparently, you need to replace the whole windshield to fix this (if you know different, let me know!), so my question is... is it possible for me to claim for this under my insurance? My 17 year old son was driving his 2003 Ford Explorer, when he was hit by another vehicle. My son was approaching a stop light and traveling between 3-5 mph....The vehicle that struck him was a company work vehicle. The work truck was pulling out of a parking lot when he hit my son. His estimated speed was also 3-5 mph. There were no injuries at all, and there was no medical treatment sought. This all happened on April 10th 2011. It was found that driver of the work truck was at fault for inattention. Honestly, this guy was super nice and walked my son through the process of calling police etc til I could get there....Now dealing with the Companies insurance carrier has been a headache!!!! here is the basic timeline....Explorer still drivable....Had to wait 10 days for police report....contacted Company that owned work truck, and they forwarded me to their insurance co....Was advised to seek several estimates, and fax them over....Faxed over estimates to adjuster. All estimates exceeded 5k....Stated she would have to contact an adjuster from local area to work this. Local adjuster came out. Estimated damages to be 3300.00. Insurance Company sent me check for 3300.00 and advised me when vehicle repaired, auto shop would need to work with adjuster on any additional repairs and costs. Explorer was in shop 30 days before finally being totaled. Local adjuster was horrible to work with, did not communicate with body shop, etc. I finally contacted the insurance company, and told them I refused to deal wither contracted adjuster etc. Now that the vehicle has been totaled, they don't want to pay what I think is fair. The insurance company wants to settle for $6928 plus $367 for taxes. Clean retail for the Explorer is $8100. This is for my area. I have been car shopping for 2 days straight. can't find anything comparable with the money they gave me etc. I have taken off work to deal with this etc, been going on for 2 months plus, and Iam worn out with it all...All I want is for my kid to be back in a safe reliable vehicle. The insurance company did provide a rental car. nightmare log 1

okay so i’m going to start logging these fucking nightmares

from what i can remember, it started off like any of the other bizarre dreams i’ve had this past week and a half, kinda hazy and kinda trying to tell a story, but mostly in a way that was all supposed to be subtext if it were a film.  it’s divided kinda into five parts, the first being the longest

the first part was the most coherent. it was almost like it was based off my favorite older film, the ghost and mrs. muir, where there was a lady who was alive and a fella who was not, except it was a trick.  they were both dead, ghosts to each other, repeating their lives over and over with these sorts of hints at each other.  the actual dream (i guess all that information was subtext) starts as she’s seeking him out in all the places she’s met him.  i guess that those things are always consistent? and their memories of each other always remain, no matter how many times they relive their already over lives.  she looks for him in her room, by the treeline, in the garden, and lastly by the fire pit.  

the first time she does this, she only sees charcoal sketchy shadows of him, and can’t interact.  the second time, she does interact with him, but something is changed, somehow.  she spoke to him, but he didn’t interact with her at all, like he was ignoring her.  She saw him from her bedroom in the fire pit, and went out to meet him since he wasn’t in the room, but he ran away from her by the trees, and in the garden, he was entertaining guests and couldn’t respond in his timeline.  so she had this small soliloquy that was supposed to be for him, about how she loves him so much, “like the wood in this pit, i want to be consumed.  but then the fire sets in, and the burns are too great” and then one more line, but she cut out.  i couldn’t hear her, because somehow she was now a charchoal ghost too, and we were at the fire pit instead of the garden, and she burned up and disappeared.  

then it flips over to him being the one ‘alive’, and he sees her from his bedroom by the fire, chases her immediately down to the garden, where the party is going, but all his guests are half ghosty and half there, so he ignores them.  She asks him to follow, i think? and then suddenly they’re at the fire pit, and she’s a charcoal ghost burning in long forgotten embers, and the guy hears her message, but again the only thing i can hear is those two lines, and then she’s cut off.  but, instead of disappearing, he steps into the fire with her, and says something like, ‘let us burn together, then’, and then they both become ghosts squared??? it’s implied that they died, again, or that perhaps their actual deaths were suicide by ghost or something.  

they turn into human outlines, holding eac h other’s hands, neither one in any way distinguishable from the other, and fly away down a street.  this is the end of part one.

the dream then takes a wild turn into some kinda commentary on goofy?  where goofy and his son are ghosts, and he’s kinda teaching his son about his history, but idk enough about it for it to be a factually realistic dream, so it very quickly veers into the third part:

we’re in our garage and we somehow had to fight for the legal ownership of the content of our garage?  like our stuff had all been there so long that the government somehow was allowed to possess it.  it’s worth noting that while the garage is implied to be the same one as the house we live in now, it starts out as actually the SIZE of the house in the dream.  there’s a lot of shit in there.  it’s also implied that i’m closer to my thirties, maybe even exactly ten years older, and it’s been a hot second since we’ve seen any of this stuff and it’s apparently really important.  

anyway, we’ve got literal construction equipment in the garage (bc it’s grown) to pull our shit down from these massive piles they’ve developed into, and as we move things we start discovering stuff, and this part goes pretty par for the course as far as growing architecture and mountains of petty trash being sorted can go.  

we’re halfway through when we discover my section.  there’s tvs and cameras.  oh my god, so many cameras.  i take so long reminiscing over them all that the rest of my family goes to lunch, i guess?  i’m alone, anyway, and the garage is somehow smaller again, but still pretty fucking huge.  There’s this one.  this one camera, that seems important, but i can’t remember how, but i want to go show mom and dad this particular one, maybe bc it’s the first? my first video camera? and as i’m walking back to show them, be all like ‘hey lookit this fucking relic lol’ i’m looking at the memory.  there’s nothing on it, which is weird bc i never delete  shit.  that’s a real life thing, i just do not delete things.  so i figured, hey, maybe it’s broken, so i open it up, turn the camera and the view finder around so i can selfie but see myself, and FUCKING SLENDERMAN IS IN MY CAMERA

i turn around, and he’s right there.  i fucking bolt.  he was putting out some FUCK OFF vibes.  i’m running further into the garage though, instead of into the house like i wanted in the first place, and that’s where it changes again?

this fourth part features a co-worker of mine, who i like to call mike wazowski, bc his first name is mike.  and it’s like a goddamn rick and morty scenario, where i’m morty and he’s rick, and we’re being brought before an alternate universe xenomorph queen that’s being held captive/protected by some unnamed government agency.  except the queen is male?  somehow thats important, except it’s literally never important again.  anyway, he’s enormous.  imagine the scale of a regular xenomorph to a standard queen, and that’s the scale of a regular queen to this AU queen.  he’s big. 

we’re in handcuffs, and i’m kind of unresponsive.  my mind is not in my bod.  i watch the whole sequence from very far away in this big white room where it’s all taking place.  the people who’ve got us captured/escorting us present the queen with another xenomorph, .  wait, no, there was a big buff angry lady first, who was yelling at us for upsetting the queen, and then pompously strode forward to apologize for this awful thing we did, and he fucking killed her and ate her.  he used one giant gross finger to impale her and then he ate her. it was horrifiying, even from my fortunate distance.  

THEN the rest of the guys present the queen with another xenomorph, which he then similarly eats, although more like a spider eats stuff.  he shot out his secondary mouth, and it clamped onto the other xeno’s back, and it shrivelled up and.  yeah.  while he’s doing that, he’s telepathically scolding us for ‘dealing with such a blight’.  and mike’s like ‘yeah, great going christina’, even though i’m fuckin catatonic.  i think he knew i could still hear him?? idk.  

the queen then continues to explain that we’ve opened some something, and that this Greatere Monster is now going to do it’s very best to fucking wreck our whole dimension, which apparently includes several universes?  i’m not sure that’s how string theory works but queeny mcmurder seemed pretty fucking sure. and then the dream switches.

this is part five.  it’s the worst, for me, personally.  

it starts with what’s obviously a recording, but i’m viewing it like I AM the camera, but i’m also IN the recording.  and me and these people are walking around a little kids playground.  everything is normal except this one installation.  it’s a big, pointy, metal mess of barely recognizable imagery.  it’s like if slendy and a xeno had a baby, and it’s skeleton was shifting through three different planes and someone took a photo and then lovingly rendered it in cast iron for all to play with.  

it was so weird.  it was so alive, even as a statue.  i walked through it, around it, we all did, and it was so eerie.  it was a thing that Should Not Exist.  it seemed like it could come alive at any moment and just.  destroy everything. 

and then suddenly i wasn’t in the recording, and i wasn’t a camera anymore, and i was. trapped.  inside it’s body.  the same skeletal, misshapen metal abomination was holding me, gently, but also not at all.  like it didn’t want to break me, but it would not let me leave.  i cried, so much.  i’d been there so long.  there was no light, only touch, and the only thing there was to touch was horror itself.  i wasn’t on earth, or in space, and space didn’t seem to matter.  neither did time, except that it just kept happening, the same insufferable moment happening forever, like a scream that never dies.  

the thing spoke to me.  it’s voice was impossible to describe.  it was grating like tin or steel, but it was also soft and smooth, whispery.  it seemed to be deafening, but it was also like a sigh.  i felt so many mouths against my face and shoulders as it spoke to me.  not all of them were human or even animalistic as anything i could name on earth.  i got impressions of what it was trying to tell me, but i didn’t know exactly what it wanted, except for me to stay there, forever in that impossible moment.  

sometimes there would be these.. animals? that would come near, when the thing slept.  it turned back into metal, and i was trapped in it’s frozen body, trying to wiggle out.  they were like rabbits, kind of hunched over and they moved haltingly.  they talked, and i could tell what they were saying.  they whispered, so jealously, ‘you’re living our dream’ over and over, ‘what you’re experiencing would be paradise to us!’ and then they would bite at my fingers and make them bleed, but the damage never lasted, i always healed from whatever they did to me, only the THING could really hurt me.  

and if it woke up when they were there, it would tear them apart, and i’d get drenched in their blood and their screams would get trapped in my head.  they were so happy to die by this awful thing that wouldn’t let me go.  

towards the end of the dream, what really felt like decades of being in that unseeing place, i was trying to hold together some hope i’d get out, and i remembered.  i remembered i love to sing, and that i always believed that singing could scare away wicked things, or at least make me feel better.  so, still bawling because i was so fucking terrified, i tried to sing.

and then i woke up.  not all the way.  but i was definitely away that i was in my bed, and so, so stiff.  like i hadn’t moved all night.  one leg under the cover, one leg out, and face down in the pillow, just like i like it.  i mentally recapped everything that happened in the dream to the best of my ability, and i feel like i’ve got an accurate summation of everything.  it doesn’t capture the feelings, though. the ghost story was wistful and sad, the goofy bit was supposed to be a continuation of that sense of.. losing out on something, the garage part was the spooky preamble to the paralyzingly terrifying fifth part, and the fourth part was... just really ominous.

the weirdest part to me is how stiff i am all over, but i somehow managed to get my leg out of my enormous comforter, and how my hair is super fucked up, even though, again, i was incredibly still all night.  i’m probably just scaring myself at this point, but it did freak me out.

so some real life things to mention: i’ve been asking for a video camera for christmas bc i want to start a video diary, and my phone is just.  unreliable.  

mike is usually a pretty snarky guy, and we closed the store together last night, so that’s probably why he made an appearance.

i stayed up super late last night recording stuff, and it was super dark and super quiet by then, so i was kind of freaking myself out before i went to bed anyway.

i did not have any wine or sleep aid last night, so my parents telling me it’s one or both of those things, HA!! i also didn’t eat anything when i came home, so it’s not that either.

i love slender man stories and the aliens franchise a lot, but i’ve never really been super scared of them before.
