Chapter 7
So how we feelin' about I.E.D Coryo 😃 I figured it makes sense :3
Small sidenote, Sunni is chubby in her face and tummy, but not really anywhere else. She's kinda... small but chubby (?)
Tumblr media
When Sej was told that Sunni was awake, he almost teleported to her side, and hugged her tight, squeezing her as tight as he could.
"Hey, Sun," he greeted, mildly out of breath from running across the estate to come see her.
Sunni merely smiled in the embrace, leaning into his touch and snuggling into him. She was rather short, standing at a mere 5'2", so compared to Sejanus, she was rather tiny—even with her slightly bigger frame.
"Hi, Sej," She whispered, her throat sore from whatever the fuck happened after she had puked last night.
"How ya feelin'?" He asked her, holding her face in his hands.
"Terrible. Gross. Sticky. Like I need 20 showers to rid of the feeling of him on me," She replied, sitting up somewhat. "God... why didn't I believe you when you warned me... Sej, I'm sorry-"
"Hey, hey, hey, it's okay. I should've warned you when you texted me that you were coming to the Capitol. It's my fault for not remembering to," Sejanus interrupted, sitting next to her.
"You still warned me. I should've listened to you. You're normally right about these things and Festus... he had me wrapped around his finger..." Sunni sighed, looking at her hands, silently counting the freckles that decorated her arms. "Maybe I am too stupid to be here."
"Sunni, you're not stupid," Sejanus reassured. "Everyone makes mistakes."
"But I'm naive; I took your words with a grain of salt and look where that got me! Drugged, puked, and publicly humiliated. Festus created the game and I played right into his trap—he won," She countered, miserably.
"Actually, Festus lost. Especially when I beat the hell out of him," Coryo corrected, holding Sunni's breakfast tray as he stood in the threshold of the door. "Sejanus had to pull me off of him, but eh, he'll live."
The room filled with the scent of blueberry pancakes and syrup, followed by bacon, hashbrowns, honey tea, and scrambled eggs. Coryo walked I'm, setting the tray on the bed, over Sunnis lap, being careful not to graze anywhere he shouldn't. He then took his seat back in his chair.
Her stomach growled loudly, and Sunni immediately dug into her breakfast, as she hadn't realized how she was literally starving.
"What happened? After I puked?" She inquired between bites. Sej and Coryo shared a look, silently conversing about who would tell her what.
"Well, after you puked, Festus continued to degrade you. We were holding you, trying to get you to focus and make sure you could hear me. Then he said something about... your body weight, and well..." Sejanus trailed off, seeing Coryo get his phone out and open his gallery.
"I did that," the blonde finished, showing Sunni a photo of Festus being bloodied, bruised, and with a clear broken nose and broken fingers. Sunni didn't flinch, though, or look disgusted as she continued to eat.
"Damn, Cori- did you let him get up?? At all?" She asked with a hint of teasing in her tone.
"Nah. Sejanus had to pull me off him once he got you sitting by a wall where no one could see you unless they were searching for you." He waved off the topic dismissively as he closed his gallery, giving Sunni a glimpse of his wallpaper; a blonde woman who looked a tad older than him and an elderly woman.
Coryo put his phone away as Sejanus continued to speak, and Sunni noticed that Coryo's dark red hoodie wasn't anywhere near him, which was odd, considering he never went anywhere without it.
"Once we got you back here, we told the maids what happened as they took you to get cleaned up and put to bed. Coryo and I stayed here for when you woke up so we could explain what happened. Oh, your mom's on her way here to talk with Ma and dad," Sej added, earning a nod from Sunni.
Sunni put her fork down, feeling tears build up in her eyes again. They had stayed with her the whole time and even took care of her. She had no words to express her gratitude for what they did, so she ended up breaking down in tears, saying a bunch of jumbled out sentences, comprised of "I'm sorrys", "thank yous", and other words the boys couldn't make out.
They both embraced Sunni, telling her it was okay and that she didn't need to worry about them being mad.
God, what did she do to earn these two to be so loyal and understanding?
Tumblr media
The next day, Monday, Sunni was getting ready for classes. Despite the massive headache she still had from Saturday, she wasn't going to let Festus, Arachne, or Clemensia think they got to her. Not even with her mother's very tempting offer to come back home to district 2 for a little bit to relax.
As she grabbed her uniform from the closet, she saw a dark hoodie next to it. Curiosity tickled her mind and when she grabbed it, she saw a note pinned to it.
" 'Hey, Sunshine. Figured you could wear this on Monday; it gets pretty cold after midterms, so I want you to wear it. Not to mention that red's a nice color on you. -Coriolanus Snow' " She read quietly. The tips of Sunni's ears burned; she didn't think Coryo would just give her his hoodie—especially not his favorite one.
She changed into her uniform, and once she slipped on his hoodie, she felt her blush grow. It was huge and came down to her knees, whereas on Coryo, it came down to his midthigh. She felt safe in his hoodie, loved even. The smell of Cori infiltrated her nostrils, and she hugged the hoodie.
Coryo was making her smile, even without his actual presence.

"Mister Snow." Coriolanus's head jerks up at his name from where it was resting against his palm, nearly having fallen asleep by the side of your bed. You were out cold and had been for close to a week now, but part of him hoped he would be there when you eventually stirred.
"We have to ask you to leave now, but you can come back tomorrow after seven," The nurse tells him, a sympathetic smile on her face. This was the sixth night in a row they'd had this exact conversation.
"Of course, thank you," he grumbles as he stands up, rubbing his eyes.
"How is your mentorship going?" she asks, just for the sake of making conversation. "It is very exciting. Congratulations, by the way."
"Thanks..." he hums, hand sliding over his jaw in slight discomfort. He had little to no interest in his tribute. It was clear Lucy Gray had no shot at winning, and he had an even smaller shot at the Plinth Prize thanks to her. Now, he could hardly even stomach looking at her. "The Songbird," as everyone called her.
In reality, his best friend had been forgotten the moment Lucy Gray Baird set foot on that stage in District Twelve and began to sing, and he loathed her for it. The way that all eyes turned to you next to him during the reaping as soon as his tribute's lips parted and began to sing made his stomach turn even now.
Coriolanus's eyes parted from the screen to look over at you, a small teasing smile on his face as he reached out to nudge you with his elbow when instead he was met with an expression of horror on your face. He could see the way your neck tensed as you swallowed hard, and he looks around to see almost everyone else's eyes on you as well for just a moment at a time, stealing glances in your direction.
Your jaw tightens while you grind your teeth together. She was good. But you were better at masking your discomfort with the whole situation, looking down to smooth out your black skirt where it lay across your lap and ignoring all the eyes that had fallen on you.
"It's going well," he lies in response.
"I'm glad to hear that. She's got a real talent, that girl," She smiles, and Coriolanus knows she's not trying to take a jab at the girl lying unconscious a few feet away, but he couldn't see it any other way. "Well, best of luck to her. And you, of course."
"Thanks. Have a good night," Coriolanus replies almost under his breath, taking a final glance at you fast asleep in the cold-looking hospital bed, neck bandaged down to your bruised shoulders before he leaves for the night.
It's sunny out when Coriolanus makes his daily trek to the Capitol Zoo to feed his tribute, and his academy uniform feels heavier on his shoulders than what he's used to.
His tribute smiles as she gets up and brushes off the front of her rainbow dress, making her way over to the bars to greet him. "Good afternoon, Coriolanus. Doin' well today?" she asks as he gets closer, already digging into his bag for the food he brought her.
"Fine," he mumbles in response, holding the folded napkin out to her that contains a cookie he took from the academy lunchroom.
"Thank you," Lucy Gray says as she takes it, unfolding the small cloth from around it and taking a bite. Chewing on it, she looks up at him again, taking note of the bags forming under his blue eyes. "I'm sorry about your friend."
His eyes flick from the cookie she was eating back up to hers, a slight glare behind them as he swallows stiffly. "Yes, well, she's alive," he tells her, looking back down as she breaks the cookie in half and holds it out to him.
"No, thank you," he shakes his head, pushing her hand away with his own.
"You should eat. You look like you need the energy," she says sympathetically.
He sighs because she's probably right. He takes it from her hand carefully, already breaking off a piece. "Thanks."
"No problem."
Lucy Gray knew their little routine by now. It was obvious when he brought her food the first time that he was going hungry. She had seen the signs enough back home to recognize it even here, hidden within what was supposed to be the endless opulence of the Capitol.
"Would you like to talk about it?" she asks as he begins to chew the tiny piece of the cookie, mindful of chewing and swallowing it slowly. He looks up at her again, confusion in his eyes. "Your friend, I mean." she explains.
"No." he answers quickly, shaking his head.
His semi-hostile response only leads Lucy Gray to believe that this girl she had seen get attacked meant something to him. Though, she already knew that when they walked into the zoo arm-in-arm like birds of a feather minutes before the girl was attacked, and her mentor had to be dragged away from her by Peacekeepers when a medical team finally arrived.
"Will you tell me about her?"
"About Y/N?" he asks, eyes softening just a bit.
Lucy Gray nods in confirmation, a small smile on her lips as she urges him on.
"She, uh..." Suddenly he doesn't know where to start with you. Your parents' names are what would traditionally come first in the Capitol, but he knew that would mean nothing to the girl in front of him. That you were his best and only real friend? That you were a singer, too, just like her, but you would likely never sing another note again? "She's a singer in training for the Opera House on Presidential Way. She is... she was very good."
Lucy Gray's eyes light up as he speaks. "She was a singer?"
Coriolanus nods, putting his focus back into eating.
"She must have been amazing," Lucy Gray says, trying to make comforting conversation.
"She is," he corrects her quickly, disguising it as agreement, despite having been the one to refer to your singing abilities in the past tense.
"Of course." She agrees, a sympathetic smile on her face. "I didn't mean..."
"They are making some changes to the Games." He cuts her off, wanting to move on to avoid having to think about the current state of his best friend. It makes his heart sink and the accompanying dread causes that awful burning sensation behind his eyes that makes him want to cry. "So... you need to sing again. Get people to like you. Then I'll be able to send you things in the arena to keep you alive."
Lucy Gray seems hesitant, letting out a huff with the slight shake of her head, looking around before locking her eyes back on him. "I don't sing when I'm told. I sing when I have something to say."
Coriolanus is jarred by her statement, tilting his head a bit and clenching his jaw at the notion and her ferocity behind it. He can't help it when the sudden, stark difference between Lucy Gray and his best friend hits him like a thunderstorm coming in quick on a sunny day.
She sang when she had something to say, you sang because you had to. This fact would keep him up at night for weeks.
The games had come and gone, and there had been no winner this year. Your tribute was shot dead the day she attacked you, and Dr. Gaul saw it as some kind of justice that after your assault, the bombing, and the deaths of your other classmates, the death of all those District kids would keep their home districts from rebelling. From seeing the Capitol as vulnerable, or something like that. You really couldn't care less. At least Felix and the twins were lucky enough to have succumbed to their injuries.
The hospital was cold and dark at almost all hours of the day. You couldn't do a thing besides sit there and wait. For what, you weren't even sure.
"She's not having a good day today," The nurse informs Coryo as he checks in to visit you. He comes by every day, sometimes multiple times a day to see you, and you have your good and bad days. He's well used to that by now.
"Has she eaten?" he asks, and the nurse shakes her head.
"Refused to touch anything we brought her," She sighs, but she's fighting back a smile, which makes him raise an eyebrow at her. Why would she be smiling at that?
"She will be able to go home tomorrow," She smiles, hearing the question he never verbalized. "I thought you might like to tell her."
"Oh... I see," Coryo hums, looking down the hall toward the staircase he would soon take to get to you.
"You don't seem pleased," She states quizzically, her grin fading.
"Why is she going home?" He asks. "She still can't even speak."
The nurse looks down, pursing her lips. "As the doctor mentioned, there's no guarantee that she will ever get her voice back. I'm sorry, truly, but there's nothing more we can do for her here. It's better that she's home with her family recovering somewhere more comfortable."
"Right," He swallows, nodding curtly at her. "Thank you," He replies simply, brushing past the nurse's station to go down to your room.
He can always hear it before he sees it, the echo of opera music cycling through your favorite records time and time again, filling the quiet hall with something pleasant as soon as he opens the door from the stairwell.
"Y/N," You look up from where you're sitting in the corner, tilting your head at him. Coryo smiles as he walks in, and you wish you were in a better mood, to be a better host; as good of one as you could be when you were in the hospital and couldn't speak a single word to him. "How are you feeling?" He asks, already knowing the answer.
You shake your head, a pout forming on your lips. The flowers people had brought you in your first couple of weeks were wilting, and then they stopped bringing them. Your whole life you had been praised for your voice; since you were six years old, the Capitol had seemingly been buzzing with hope for your future. You would be the most beautiful, accomplished singer Panem had ever seen - no one doubted it, but within weeks you had been completely forgotten. Replaced by the image of the girl who had sung at the reaping and once in an interview. Your room was quite a sad reflection of this, and you spent every minute of every day forced to wallow in it.
"Bad day?" Coryo asks anyway, but you just shrug, looking out the window at your sad view of the city that had abandoned you.
"Well, I've got some good news," He says, which draws your attention. You tilt your head at him, gesturing in a circular motion with your hand for him to go on.
He laughs, putting his bag down on your empty and perfectly made bed. "One second, here. In case you have questions." He pulls the small chalkboard out from the drawer next to your bed, holding it out to you with a piece of white chalk. You scrunch up your nose and wave rapidly for him to put it back. He knew it would bug you, that's why he did it, recalling the day he brought it for you and you almost threw it at him.
"I HATE writing with chalk," You scribbled quickly on a napkin with a pen you stole from his pocket, throwing the napkin at him and crossing your arms.
"What? Why?" Coryo laughed, dropping the crumpled piece of soft paper on the table next to your bed.
You shook your head, pursed your lips, and looked up, trying to find a way to explain the awful sensation without saying it. He watched you patiently as you thought, until you pretended to hold a piece of the white substance in between your thumb and forefinger, dragging it down the air slowly and pretending to gag. You shook your head again in disgust, waving your hand at him.
"Oh, I didn't know you felt so passionately about this," He drags the chalk down over the board, and you cringe, covering your ears. Coryo couldn't help but think that was just about the cutest thing he had ever seen.
That had been one of your good days, even though at the time your scar was still so fresh it was bandaged, and you were littered with bruises down to your ribs. The room was littered with fallen flower petals by now, yes, but also with what must be hundreds of notes you had shown to Coryo to express yourself in the only way you still could.
That memory still makes you smile, even if you do absolutely hate chalkboards. You walk past him and grab your notebook off the same table, picking it and the pen up as dramatically as you possibly can before sitting down on the bed and looking up at him.
"What?" He asks, just to tease you, and you roll your eyes.
'Get on with it. Also, you're not funny, and I hate you,' You write, turning the page to face him so he could read it.
"Oh, do you?" He chuckles, sitting down next to you.
You smack his arm with the book, motioning again that he should just spit it out.
"Okay! Okay, fine," He sighs emphatically, placing his hands on his thighs and looking down at the floor, just for a few moments to drive you more up the wall before turning his gaze to you. "They told me that you're going home tomorrow."
You open your mouth to speak, suddenly forgetting that you can't. You quickly shut your jaw, furrowing your brow and shaking your head. 'Why?' You mouth to him, neglecting the pad of paper in your lap.
He reads your lips, frowning at your lack of excitement. He was hoping you would be looking forward to it, but he knew you wouldn't be. Not really. "They said there isn't anything more they can do for you here, that you need to heal at home."
You stand up abruptly, throwing the paper down on the ground and clutching the pen so tight that Coryo fears it might shatter.
What do they mean "nothing they can do"? They could fix you, they could operate again, they could pump you so full of drugs that you could finally forget the hell that you're living in, that's what they could do. You couldn't even say that - or scream out your frustrations.
You turn back to Coryo, and the hurt look on your face crushes him. You want to speak to him so badly. Your lips fall open, and you try anyway. 'They're going to leave me like this?' You ask, but not a sound comes out. Not even so much as a whisper. Your throat burns regardless.
"I'm sorry," he says honestly, standing up and reaching out for you. You shake your head, forcing yourself to look anywhere but at him. "Come here..." he says softly, already wrapping his arms around you as the tears brimming in your eyes begin to fall. You can't even hug him back, hands clutched to your chest as you shake under his hold.
"If I could take this from you, I would," He mumbles, shaking his head and resting his chin on your head as he rubs your back. "I'm sorry, Y/N/N."
What he wouldn't give to be able to hear your voice again.

Chapter 9
FIRST DAY FESTIVAL TIME :3
TW/CW: Possessive/obsessive Coryo murderous thoughts
Tumblr media
When the train that weaved its way through the districts arrived at D2, Sunni practically leaped off the train and hugged her friends who were waiting at the station for her. The friend group was quite large, comprising of maybe 6 people.
"Cori, Sej, come here, you guys gotta meet my friends!!" She called, waving to the boys as they gathered their own + Sunni's luggage off the train.
Getting a closer look at Sunni's friend group, Coriolanus realized that she had a very mixed group of friends; black, white, desi, indian, boys, girls, androgynous, plus sized, and skinny friends. He didn't think negatively of that fact, though; he thought it was nice to see her have a large and very close group of friends. Most girls back at the Academy just just stick 1 to 3 people, and there'd be one poc at the most.
"Guys, this is Coriolanus Snow and Sejanus!" She introduced stepping to the side, allowing everyone to shake hands. "Cori, Sej, these are my friends Nero Amadeus; he/him, Maxima Benedictus; he/she/they, Nataila Catullus; any and neos, Viktor Dellis; he/it, Vivian Diamandis; she/her, and the twins Dele, & Demitri Chaconas!"
A chorus of hellos and heys and followed Sunnis friends as the boys shook hands and introduced themselves to Sunni's friends.
"So, Sunshine, how's the Capitol?" Maxima asked as the residents of District 2 led the Plinths + Coryo to the hotel where the Academy students would be staying.
"Uh, shiny," Sunni answered. "And there's more douchebags."
"Ha, fuckin' told you Vik!" Demitri interrupted, reaching over to smack Viktor in the back of the head. He simply ducked, snickering as they instead hit Sunni.
"Hey-!!"
"Sorry, Sun, Vik ducked!"
Nataila laughed to herself as Vivian and Dele shared a look that read "they're so childish".
As the group chatted excitedly about plans for the week and caught up, learning about the Capitol as well, Coryo was glaring daggers at one of the males; Nero Amadeus.
Nero had his hands in the pockets of his jacket as he listened to the chatter, smiling as Sunni. He was happy to see her so excited and to be reunited with her friends but Coryo didn't know why and I was determined to get a straight answer out of the brunette or beat it out of him.
Cracking his knuckles and tossed his suitcase, which was actually Sejanus' that he was borrowing (read as stole), onto his bed once the group reached the hotel; all the Academy children were were on the top two floors and Sunni's group had the highest one.
"I don't trust that Amaedus guy," He huffed out to Sejanus.
"What? Nero? Why?" Sej asked, setting his backup suitcase on his bed.
"I dunno- I just get a bad feeling from him," He replied, tearing his hoodie off as he spoke.
"He seems pretty chill—besides, we just met the guy. It might just be your paranoia since this is your first time in 2," Sejanus offered, taking off his sweater and setting it on his bed.
"No, I don't think it's the paranoia. I'd know if it's the paranoia."
"Jealousy?" Coryo almost laughed. Him? Jealous? Over what? A girl that's not his yet?
"Jealousy, Sej? Really? Im not dating her, so why would i be jealous?" He asked, crossing his arms.
"Friends can be jealous. Hell, I thought Sunni would've replaced me after me, dad, and ma moved to the Capitol, buy she still cares just as much after a decade," Sejanus answered, opening the curtains to check our the view.
"That's different, you're family," the blonde snapped, falling back onto his bed. The was comfy; it felt like it was made entirely out of feathers, and it felt way better than his bed at home.
"Yeah, I suppose, but we should trust them. After all, they've been around Sunni longer than either of us, and for the past 10 years, I've only seen her on visits."
Coryo scoffed and rolled his eyes, mumbling whatever. He was going to find out if Nero had a thing for Sunni and if he needed to dispose of him to make sure he didn't get a chance.
But he'd also have to make sure that no one else would find out about how Nero "went missing". He needed Sunni to completely trust him, no matter the cost.
An awkward silence filled the room, only to be disrupted by loud music entering the room. Coryo sat up, glaring at where the music was supposedly coming from; he didn't need a headache before the festival.
"The hell is that?" Sej inquired, coming out of the bathroom, zipping up his fly. Coryo shrugged, and the two left their room, to see what the noise was. Seeing a door was cracked open, they gently pushed the door open and Coryo feel his blood boil.
Nero and Sunni were dancing to some upbeat and chaotic aong, singing along with it as the others were laughing and talking about an itinerary that Sunni made at some point. When did she make an itinerary, Coryo had no idea, but he didn't care right now. All he cared about was separating his girl from some loser nobody.
"So do you guys plan on making everyone else deaf?" Sejanus shouted over the music, grabbing the others' attention.
"Sorry, Sej, this is what we do all the time!" Sunni shouted back, letting go of Nero so he could turn up his hearing aids once the music was off.
"Why?" He yelled back, walking into the room, followed by Coryo, who was glaring daggers at Nero.
"Why not? It's an homage to how we met; loud music," Sunni replied, laughing as Dele turned the music down.
"Yep: we were all at a skate park, testing our skates and boards and we started bonding over some loud music people were playing," Demitri added as Viktor kicked their ass in another round of COD.
"Dude, how do you get so good at Call of Duty?"
"Eh, having divorced parents who always argue make it easy to find time to game," He replied with a shrug.
"So divorced parents equals being a god at Call of Duty?" Nataila teased, grinning.
"I mean, in my case, yeah."
"So then what does having a dead parent equal?" Maxima inquired.
"Art skills," Sunni answered, hopping her happy little butt onto the counter.
Coryo made his way to her as the others gasped and told Sunni she was quote unquote "wrong for that" while trying not to laugh despite Sunni giving them permission to, when Sunni was laughing and laid his head on her shoulder.
She beamed at this sudden "affection," and gently scratched the top of his head.
"Hi, Cori," She whispered to him as the others, including Sejanus, started talking about things they could do for the first day of the festival.
"Hey, Sunshine," He murmured, his breath hot against her neck.
"You okay?" She asked, gently lifting his head to meet his semi-relaxed gaze.
"Just feel better around you," He lied to her. Well, he wasn't really lying, but he couldn't say he was claiming what's his. He couldn't scare her off. He wouldn't scare her off.
"Okay," She replied, smiling and letting him go back to nuzzling her. Fortunately for Coriolanus, Sunni didn't notice the hateful and murderous glare he was sending towards Nero, who was chatting absent-mindly with Maxima.
Tumblr media
Late into the afternoon, once all the Academy students were settled, the group had set off to explore District 2 and everything that had been set up.
Games, of course, for the little kids who had rich families or the Academy kids who had younger siblings or students who wanted to relax and feel like a child again, but also dancing, music, and all sorts of different delicacies. It was so wonderful, filling, and fun that they all felt calm. Even with the occasional dead dad or divorced parents jokes, which Coryo learned were coping methods that Sunni and Viktor used to cope with the loss, everyone felt happy.
But Coryo wasn't happy. People were calling to Sunni, getting hugs and having her full attention. Sejanus, at one point, had to restrain Coryo from committing any more crimes again because a guy hugged Sunni for 2 minutes too long.
Sure, Sunni reassured him and said he was "just a friend," but Coryo had countered with "friend's don't have their hands way too low where they shouldn't be." Which eventually led to Sunni nodding but telling him he didn't need to jealous because they guy was 15 and just really tall. At that point, Coryo let it go and gave in but has held her close to him, not wanting anyone to pull her away from him. As the group walked to another restaurant to check out the place, Sejanus shot Coryo a text wearing a shit eating grin.
Sejanus: Not jealous, hm? You haven't let go of Sunni since we found out about the loud music lmfao
Seen
Coryo rolled his eyes, seeing the text. Of course, he wasn't going to let go of Sunni. People could've turned against her after she was transferred to the Capitol, for God's sake! He had to protect his girl, even from her own friends if he had to.
Then Sejanus sent Coryo another text, but it was a photo of Coryo with his arms around Sunni's waist and holding her small hands in his and he had his head on top of hers.
He smiled a little at the picture and saved it to his phone before putting his phone in his pocket.
He'd make that his lockscreen later.

CHAPTER 6 BABY
I'm on a roll 🕺
Tw/CW: drugging, sexual implications, mentions of violence, murder mention, scars, blackout, vomit
Tumblr media
On the way to Clemensia's party, Sunni kept the tension in the car light by rambling about whatever was running through her pretty little head. Talking about anything from art, to video games, to food. Sej and Coryo didn't mind, as it kept them distracted. They occasionally engaged in conversation with Sunni, only to quickly stop when Festus interjected.
Coryo's eyes were staring into the back of Festus' head, and if looks could kill Festus would've dropped dead the first moment he saw him after Sunni revealed they were together.
When the group arrived and Festus parked his car, he led Sunni into Clemensia's estate, where she stared up in awe, talking excitedly while Festus had a hand on waist. Sej and Coryo got out of the car, glaring at Festus.
"I brought my pocket knife, so if I need to, just let me know," Coryo mumbled to Sej as they walked up the steps, earning a hit to the chest.
"No!" He hissed, earning an eye roll from the blonde. "No murder again! The judge let you off the first time because you hadn't been diagnosed with I.E.D. yet and you were ordered to get court-mandaged therapy!"
"Damn, Sejanus, you're no fun," He grumbled as the two followed Festus and Sunni inside.
Inside of the estate, there were hundreds of students talking, dancing, some drinking alcohol, others doing drugs to let loose, making out, or doing whatever else. The lights were blinding and changing between a bunch of different colours as all kinds of music artists played on the speakers.
Sunni was eating a sugar cookie by Festus near a wall, trying not to feel uncomfortable by everyone else doing things she was taught not to do.
"It's kind weird... seeing everyone drinking alcohol," She whispered to Festus, finishing her sugar cookie.
"Oh, come on, baby, it's fine. C'mon it'll be fun," Festus encouraged, pouring Sunni a cup of whiskey. She shook her head, covering her nose with her hand.
"Nuh-uh, I refuse to try and drink until I'm 21," She refused, earning an exasperated groan from him. He downed what he poured, rolling his eyes.
"Whatever."
Tumblr media
An hour passed, and by then, Sunni was in the middle of the dance floor, giggling up a storm as Festus had his hands a little too low on her as they danced to some popular song. His hands danced on her hips, and he was murmuring soft nothings in her ear that were lost on her due to the music.
Sunni was leaning into his touch, laughing and tossing her head back into his touch, feeling his thing against her back.
Sejanus and Coryo hated the sight as they mingled with the crowd. They had everything set up, and soon, it would be known to the entire grade what Festus was really like behind all that fucking charm and flirtatious attempts.
Then it happened.
The lights turned on, and Sunni was covered in a bunch of different foods. Then laughter erupted.
Sunni felt tears erupt in her eyes.
"And, THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is how you embarrass a naive little bitch!" A loud voice boomed in the room which was followed by laughter.
Sunni brought a hand up to her head as she felt two pairs of hands pulled her up. She blinked a few time, trying to focus on Festus.
"Fes..? Why did you do that?" She asked, not realizing tears were rolling down her cheeks.
"Oh, because I can! I had to embarrass you and your pathetic District mind!!" He replied, grinning maliciously.
"Why?" She asked stumbling, and feeling a familiar warmth embrace her.
"Because I can't believe how stupid you were to believe that I love you!!"
"You... you don't...?" She asked. Sunni started to cry harder. How could she be so stupid? Why didn't she believe Sejanus? Why hadn't she trusted him?
"No, you fucking moron!"
Sunni started getting dizzy and she felt sick. She placed a hand on her stomach, feeling warm until vomit spewed from her face, earning groans of disgust from their classmates.
Tumblr media
The next morning, Sunni groaned feeling the sun's rays on her face. She slowly opened her eyes, her eyes slowly scanning around the room. She was home?
She blinked a few more time, focusing on the figure who was seemingly asleep in a chair next to her bed.
"Cori...?" She mumbled, furrowing her brows a tad.
"Mornin', Sunshine," Coryo greeted, opening his eyes and sitting up. He reached over, brushing a lock of hair out of her sleepy face. She smiled a little at his touch, leaning into him. She was usually always warm, so his cold touch was a nice change to have against her body.
"Wha' happened...?" She asked. He grimaced, the events of last night came flooding back. Sunni's eyes soon noticed the bandages on Coryo's hands.
"Coryo, your hands-"
"I'll be fine, princess. You rest up, I'll go let Sej know you're awake and we'll bring you breakfast before we tell you what happened last night," He told her, gently cupping her face in his hand.
"Okay."

Chapter 11 :3
TW/CW: Talk of Sunni's dead dad/talk of O.D. (overdosing)
“You're not gonna tell me are you?” Sunni eventually asked, yawning as the sun slowly started to rise. It was around 6 am now and the duo had been playfully rolling around on the bed, teasingly wrestling for the past 45 minutes—mainly for Sunni to try and get whatever was bothering Coriolanus out of him. Currently, she was being quote unquote ‘crushed’ by him as he was half-way laying on her, but he wasn't putting his full weight on her, or so she thought it wasn't his full weight, but didn't mind it as the cuddly position reminded her of how she'd come cuddle her dad while her ma was out doing something.
Sunni was a big cuddler growing up and when she had lost her father, she stopped looking for cuddles and began to give people cuddles whenever she got a feeling someone needed it. And to her, Coryo needed cuddles.
“Nah, not now. You don't need to worry about it,” Coriolanus told her, pressing the cold tip of his nose against the bridge of her nose. He could practically taste the lavender and lemon scented shampoo & conditioner she used for her shower hours earlier.
“Alright, alright, but before everyone else wakes up, can I show you a place? Pretty please?” She asked, pushing him onto his back and resting her head on the back of her hand.
“It's six am,” Coryo began before pausing. Sunni was looking so beautiful in the morning sunrise. Her hair was mildly messy, in a loose braid over her shoulder. Wisps of her hair cascaded down her face, almost blending in with her freckles. “You have freckles..”
She smiled at his sudden change of words. “I do indeed have freckles, Cori. You just noticed?”
“Never gotten the chance to truly study your face without it being considered weird,” He answered, shrugging and sitting up so his back was against the headboard. He brushed a strand of her hair out of her face, smiling a bit. He liked being really calm around her; not having to worry about something she'd say, raising his pulse because she was so easygoing. So sweet and cautious of her words and how he'd react. If he thought about it, Sunni was the only non-family person who didn't know about his I.E.D. and treaded lightly to not anger him but didn't keep herself guarded. She truly trusted him.
“Alright, yeah, that's true cause for the past 2 months I've been up Festus’ ass and we're always around Sejanus. But could we take the opportunity to get out so I can show you something?” She inquired, laying on her back. Resting her hands on her tummy, she looked up at Coryo, smiling at how… angelic he looked. From her angle, Coryo looked absolutely ethereal, and she couldn't believe he was real. She felt like she was in a dream or a fairytale; everything felt too perfect to be real right now.
“Okay, yes, you can show me. As long as we're back before anyone else wakes up,” He agreed, earning a large smile from her.
She chirped a little yay and went to her closet to choose an outfit for the day. Meanwhile, Coryo got up and stretched, smiling at the ruined bed that they had tangled themselves up in and out of. He could almost cry; this hotel bed looked more lived in than his own bed back home, and he wasn't mad about it because Sunni brought him to life. She gave him a reason not to be angry.
Silently getting his phone, he waited for Sunni as he watched the sun continue to slowly peak over the mountains as far as the eye could see. Coryo smirked; he wondered if Sunni was named Sunni due to the immense heat or the blistering sun. Then he frowned.
‘No, no, her parents would've picked a more sophisticated reason for her name. Maybe she has another name but goes by Sunni as a nickname,’ He thought to himself.
Hearing the bathroom door open, he perked up and smiled contently at her outfit choice. She was wearing what seemed to be a ruffle asymmetry A-line saffron maxi dress; her heels were gold wire type of heels that did not add much to her height. Coryo had seen Tigris make something similar, so he assumed he was right and by the looks of it, even in a dark hotel room, he was.
“You ready, Cori?”
Tumblr media
Coryo was very much not ready to be brought to a grave. Especially not one as beautiful as this.
“It's my daddy's grave,” She told him softly, tucking her dress under her knees and sitting on the dirty grounds beside her father's tombstone. Coryolanus was speechless. He didn't think Sunni would bring him here and he certainly wasn't expecting Sunni to be raised by a single mother without any signs of gaining a step-father. “I come here every morning to visit him, ya know? To be closer to him.”
Coryo looked at Sunni, seeing as she took off her heels and let her toes wiggle in the dirt. The tombstone itself was maybe the width of the shower back home and was probably made of granite or something similar to show respect for the late Mr. Plinth.
“How'd he die..?” Coryo questioned slowly, watching Sunni pick a weed out of her father's tombstone vase and toss it aside.
“Drug overdose,” She told him, leaning against her dad's tombstone and shutting her eyes. She felt closer to her dad when she did this and it made her feel like his ghost was hugging her from the other side. “He was stressing about finances and he went for a walk… daddy never came home that night. They found his body few miles out by the train tracks and discovered a bunch of puncture wounds—one new, a bunch old. No one suspected a thing. Had his funeral right here… a week before I turned 6”
“I'm sorry, Sunni.”
“What are you sorry for, Cori?”
“That you had to deal with that so young,” He replied and she shrugged softly.
“It's okay. I think without daddy's death, I wouldn't… I wouldn't live up to my name.” Seeing Coriolanus’ puzzled expression, Sunni continued. “Daddy always told me to smile and focus on bein’ happy with myself before tryin’ to make others happy. Even in the saddest of moments, there's still something to smile about. Like sunflowers. Even in the harshest of rains, they still rise and grow… I'm glad ma and daddy named me after sunflowers. It's very fitting, don'tcha think?” She added, looking at Cori. He was stunned. Sunni always seemed like the kind to have the perfect life. Perfect childhood; both parents, only child so there was no fighting over the inheritance, perfect cousin, lots of money, perfect friends, with a perfect lover (one he'll replace, but that's taking time).
“Your parents chose the perfect name for the perfect woman,” He simply said with the faintest smile crossing his lips.
“Mhm. Sunni Girasol Alvarez-Plinth; it's a mouthful, but it's me.”
“I'm sorry, your middle name is Girasol?”
“Yeah, it's Spanish for sunflower!” Coriolanus snickered; girasol sounded more like a car part than the name of a flower, but he let it go.
“C'mon, let's head back before the rest get suspicious,” He said, pulling Sunni to her feet. She grabbed her heels, whispering a soft ‘adios, papá’ to her father's tombstone and walking side-by-side with him to the hotel.
Tumblr media
"Where were you both?" Sej asked, raising an eyebrow at Sunni and Coryo as they snuck into the lobby to the complimentary breakfast being provided by the hotel.
"I took Cori to meet dad," Sunni answered, joining her cousin sliding into a booth as Coryo slid in next to her.
"Ah, gotcha."

His Sunflower
Tumblr media
Chapter 5 🕺
We boutta fly through these next few chapters to get to my lore idea so I never forget it 🫡
Tumblr media
As the week of midterms went antagonizingly slow, Festus and Sunni were arguing, which pleased Coryo and Sej, but they didn't show it when Sunni told them about their most recent fight in the art room.
"What? Fes, why would I abandon Sej and Cori?" Sunni asked as her boyfriend watched her sketch out her next painting. She was sitting by the window, getting a headstart on the painting for class. Her teacher had wanted the class to paint the people, things, or places that made each person happy. Sunni, being the overachiever that she is, had to work twice as hard because of what she had planned.
"Because, my darling, they don't understand the love we have for each other. They hate us for it. Did you forget how Sejanus reacted when you told him the news?" Festus drawled, not really wanting to be here. The art room smelled awful to him; all the oils and paints? Not for him, but he dealt with it that way she didn't think he didn't love her. Well, he didn't, but Sunni couldn't find that out. Not yet.
"They don't hate us, it just came as a shock cause we've only known each other for about 3 months," She replied, setting her pencil down to look up a photo she had taken of her center piece.
"And how do you know what? Did Sejanus tell you that?" Festus snapped, a frown appearing on his face.
"Yeah, actually," Sunni sassed back, glaring at her boyfriend. "Say Sejanus' name like that again and see what happens."
The pissed off look was surprising to Festus; all he had seen Sunni do was smile, laugh, beam, and grin. He had to tread lightly when talking about her cousin because if he wasn't careful, she'd pick up on his true nature.
"Right, sorry, love," He said gentler, earning a bright smile of approval on her face before turning back to her work.
"I don't forgive you just yet, Fes, you'll have to earn your forgiveness."
Coryo had grabbed his shovel, as the three of them were in his family's apartment when she told them, but she told him no and bapped him on his head like he was cat.
It was like a factory reset for him; he hadn't been touched like that since he was a kid, so it had worked, and he sat back down, putting his shovel back in his closet, mumbling a quiet fine.
"Has he been working on improving?" Sejanus questioned from the floor, running a hand through his hair.
"Yeah!! He's not a total ass like you guys say," She replied, beaming. "Yeah, he has his moments, but he's super sweet!"
'I could be better for you, Sunni. Better than that lowlife player and cheater,' Coryo thought, pulling his white hood up to rest on his head before glancing at his notebook that was squeezed into his mattress. How Sunni hadn't seen it yet, he had no idea, but was he grateful she hadn't? Yes. Yes, he was.
"Sun, it could be a front; he could still be a bad guy," Sejanus warned.
"Yeah, yeah, I know, but he's changed! I know it!"
Tumblr media
Then the party came. The boys plan to have a sideshow exposing Festus to the entire senior class during the party was ready, with photos (comprising of from texts to photos of Festus on dates with different girls) from sophomore year as proof, was ready and on a USB drive.
They were dressed in casual-ish clothing. Sejanus was wearing black jeans and a baggy band t-shirt. He didn't feel like dressing all nice like people usually expected him to do so—he also wanted to blend in as most of their class loved wearing band shirts on no-uniform days and since this was Clemensia's party, there would be no-doubt that a lot of people would be wearing band t-shirts.
Coryo, on the other hand, was wearing blue jeans, which had rips up and down them but he didn't really care; they were styled that way so people wouldn't pick up on his financial situation and he looked good in them too. He wore a large short sleeve plain white shirt and an oversized dark red hoodie over it with a gold chain he borrowed from Sejanus around his neck. He liked his simplicity. Not too "poor-looking" and not too fancy either. It was a perfect mix of what he needed to show and comfort.
The boys were waiting for Sunni by the door of the estate, and when they saw her, Coryo's jaw hit the Titanic.
Sunni had curled her hair a little, just to make it bouncy, and was wearing a white dress where the sleeves rested on the arms instead of the shoulders. It came down to the middle of her calves. She was wearing gold-coloured heels, which were the kind you had to tie on you, so you didn't fall out of the shoes. The only accessory she had was a silver necklace that had a jeweled sunflower.
She looked stunning. She was way too good for Festus. She was a goddess. Someone to be worshipped. Not be manipulated by Festus.
Coryo tried to speak as Sejanus answered the door.
"Festus!!" Sunni exclaimed, seeing him at the door. She giggled and wrapped her arms around her boyfriend's neck, kissing his cheek, as Festus embraced her body.
"Hi, baby," Festus greeted, smiling and sending a triumphant smirk to Sejanus and Coryo as the two glared at him.

Chapter 10 :3
HAPPY VALENTINES DAY POOKIES <3 this is my Valentine's day gift to you all since I've been sick for the past 2 days :3
TW/CW: briefly talking about what Festus did to Sunni
Tumblr media
“Oh my fucking God, I can't escape him!!” Sunni sighed out, exasperated. The group had stopped by the best restaurant/karaoke place in District 2 for dinner and Sunni had gone to place everyone's orders, despite her childhood friends arguing that they'd do it. She had simply snuck away to place everyone's orders with a shit-eating grin on her face.
“Escape who?” Nero asked, flipping his jacket hood up, with a curious look.
“Please don't tell me it's Festus,” Sejanus begged, looking at Sunni who took her seat in between Nero and Coryo. Nero was on the end, then Sunni, Coryo, Sejanus, Vivian, Dele, Nataila,Viktor and then finally Demitri.
“That's exactly who it is,” She replied, smoothing out her dress as she noticed how it rode up her thigh. She wasn't looking for the wrong kind of attention.
“Alright, that's it, I'm killing him,” Coryo announced, standing up, only for Sunni and Sejanus to pull him back to his seat.
“No! No, no, no, Coryo,” The two protested, bringing him back down. Sunni, deciding to put him in a mild state of shock, sat on Coryo's lap to keep him down. Coryo stiffened and sat up straight, not moving a muscle. He was grateful he had his curls so the others didn't see how red his ears became at her spur-of-moment decision.
‘Well that calmed him down-’ Sejanus thought, mildly surprised to see Sunni being so bold. Coryo barely listened to him anyway and the way Sunni managed to keep him in place and not get arrested made Sej quite impressed. Though he didn't like the method, it seemed to work. He'd talk to Sunni about it later, as to not make the evening awkward.
Swallowing, Coryo pulled out his phone to distract himself and from the blood rushing to his head and praying Sunni didn't feel it. He didn't want her to think of him as weird for getting hard in a setting like this. What would she think of him? Would she cut him off like how Tigris did to Grandma'am’s overwatered roses? Sharply and without hesitancy? He wouldn't have that—not when he was getting close so making her his sunflower.
He decided to focus on making that photo Sej had sent him as his lock screen and photoshop some of the pictures from the protective stalking he and Sej had done to be him and Sunni instead of Festus and Sunni.
“So… what's bad about this Festus guy?” Viv asked slowly to alleviate the tension that had fallen around the booth the group had been seated at.
“So, he's my ex. He drugged and humiliated me at a party the Saturday after midterms were over for believing that he actually loved me,” Sunni explained, leaning into Coryo's chest holding his free hand around her waist to massage the tension out of his hand as her other hand gently spun the rings that added elegance to his otherwise bony hands.
“HE WHAT?!” The group, aside from Coryo and Sej, shouted, making Nero wince in pain.
“Ow,” He grumbled, turning his hearing aids down somewhat.
“Sorry, Nero,” the others said, feeling bad for causing him pain; despite being an otherwise loud group, they did try to keep their surprise low for him so it didn't fuck with his hearing aids.
“It's fine, but Sunni why isn't he arrested?” He asked, waving off the others’ concern.
“No proof or anything to prove it was him; it'd be my word against his, not to mention Sej and Coryo would only have their words against Festus too,” She answered, gently squeezing Coryo's hand which had tightened around her waist. She gently rubbed his knuckles, hoping that would calm him down a little bit.
“Yeah, and Festus’ parents have way more money than ours cause we're only just barely above the minimum amount to be living in the Capitol. If we lost, we would've probably been sent to a lower District like 10 or 11,” Sejanus added, noticing how Coryo mildly squirmed at the talk of money. Biting the inside of his cheek, Sej decided to change the subject. “But enough about that, how did you all meet Sunni?”
“Seventh grade, golf club,” Nero said simply. “And she was only one with a dyed yellow streak in her hair.”
“Cafeteria, eighth grade. I was a new student,” Viv replied, shrugging softly.
“Dele, Demitri, Vik, and I met her in a Freshmen arts class where we learned that if you give her a brush, she gets so focused and-”
“Hey-! Hey, hey, hey, no no no don't expose my secrets!!” Sunni's cheeks had turned bright red when she realized where Nat was going with that. Sej and Coryo didn't know that yet and she wanted to keep it that way.
“What? You mean to tell us that you haven't told them!?” Maxima inquired, raising an eyebrow.
“Told us what?” Coryo asked, putting his phone in his pocket, having finally calmed himself down. Sure, Sunni wasn't the first person to sit on his lap, but this was the first time someone did it to calm him down.
“Maxie, no-!!”
“Maxie yes! Sunni paints realism! Mainly sunflower fields!” They replied, beaming as 2 waiters brought over the group's dinner. Sunni noticed Coryo's attention was immediately grabbed by the smell of food, and she slid off his lap, sitting back between him and Nero as the group sorted everyone's dinner and drinks.
Almost 2 hours later, the group had learned a lot about each other and seemingly grew closer. Except for Nero and Coryo.
Anytime Nero spoke, Coryo would send death glares to him and would tightened his grip around Sunni. Sejanus didn't think much of it as he knew his friend was just being protective of Sunni. Did he find it odd Coryo was protecting her from her own friends? Yes. Was he going to judge him out loud? No, as Sejanus have a desire to live.
By the time everyone paid and was heading back to the hotel and their own homes, Coryo was carrying Sunni on his back as he and Sej made their way back to the hotel, due to Sunni being too tired to walk all the way back herself (and she fell asleep just before they got to the hotel).
By the time the boys got back to their room, after they tucked Sunni in bed, Sejanus passed out on his bed. Coryo went into the hotel room's shower and turned on the hot water. He exhaled shakily and stared at the tent in his pants.
How the hell did Sunni not notice it when she was sitting on his lap?
Tumblr media
Around 5am the next day, Coryo was wide awake and scrolling on his phone. He had barely gotten any sleep, so he wasn't in a good mood already. Sighing, he went to text Sunni and frowned seeing her text back so quickly.
Tumblr media
Sunni jumped a little hearing a knock at her door and slowly came out of her bed. She opened the door and giggled a little, feeling Coryo wrap his arms around her waist. He didn't give her a minute to process what was happening as he scooped her up, making her wrap her legs around his waist and tighten her grip around his neck.
“Cori!!” She squealed out as he shut the door behind him.
“Hm? Yes, Sunshine?” He murmured, looking up at her.
“This isnt gonna make me not ask you what's bothering you,” She laughed out, pushing his curls out of his face.
“But it sure as hell will distract you,” He replied, sitting on her bed, letting her sit on his lap.
“Uh-huh, sure, but quick thing, why are you so cold? You feel like ice,” She inquired with a small frown.
“‘M always cold,” He answered simply, burying his face into the crook of her neck.
“Well, guess what? Cuddling with me means you're gonna be warm,” Sunni told him, playfully pushing him to lay down. Grabbing her blanket, she draped it over herself and him, snuggling him.
Blushing furiously, Coriolanus was grateful that the hotel room was almost pitch black. Pulling her closer to him, he ran his fingers through her hair. He didn't think one person could be so soft and comforting like Sunni was. She was warm, sweet, cuddly, and… non-judgmental. Something Coryo wasn't entirely used to. Sure, Sejanus wasn't judgemental and was nice, Tigris was warm, and Grandma'am was kindhearted but those were the people who he let into his heart. Sunni was different; she dug her way into his heart and refuses to leave. But Coryo didn't mind. He actually liked it for once.
“Gonna tell me what's bothering you now, Cori?” She whispered.
“Nope.”
“Asshole.” Coryo could only laugh. He knew she didn't mean it. She didn't say ‘asshole’ in a condescending way or shove him away. She was teasing him. He had to admit it, to himself at least, he loved it.
"You know you love me," He shot back with a smirk and chuckling as she sat up a tad to see his face as best as she could.
"Cause you're the best," She told him. Coryo felt his ego expand and rubbed her back, soaking up her warmth.
"Mm, nah, you are," He replied, pulling her back down him to keep her close to him.
