This 40th weekend of the year could be your golden opportunity to transform your life, with just a KES 99 stake standing between you and the largest payout in Kenyan gaming history. Whether you’re a seasoned player or new to football betting, this is your chance to make headlines and become the next big winner.
A mega jackpot like never before

Best path to becoming a millionaire in Kenya
SportPesa has a rich history of turning ordinary Kenyans into multi-millionaires. In 2018, Gordon Ogada made history by winning a staggering KES 230,742,881 in the SportPesa Mega Jackpot, the largest jackpot ever won in Kenyan history at the time. He was followed shortly after by Cosmas Korir, who pocketed an equally life-changing KES 208,733,619.
These monumental wins are not rare. SportPesa has minted numerous millionaires throughout the year with its Mega Jackpot and generous bonuses. Many Kenyans have reaped significant financial rewards just by playing the Mega Jackpot, and now it’s your turn. Could you be the next name added to SportPesa’s list of legendary winners?
Weekend’s mega jackpot fixtures to watch
This weekend’s jackpot promises thrilling football action from across Europe’s top leagues, providing an exciting backdrop as you aim to win millions.
Everton vs Newcastle (English Premier League) The Mega Jackpot gets underway on Saturday with a key fixture between Everton and Newcastle United at Goodison Park. Everton is looking to continue their resurgence after a poor start to the 2024/25 season. The Toffees are unbeaten in their last two matches and have a solid home record, winning six of their last eight league games at Goodison. On the other hand, Newcastle has made an impressive start to the season and will be keen to maintain their top-four push. Both teams are desperate for points, making this an unpredictable and crucial matchup to kick off the Mega Jackpot.
Brighton vs Tottenham (Premier League) Later in the weekend, Brighton will take on Tottenham in what promises to be another close encounter. Only one point separates these two sides on the Premier League table. While Brighton has struggled to secure wins in recent weeks, Tottenham comes into the game riding high on confidence after an impressive run of five straight victories in all competitions. Spurs are also aiming for their third consecutive Premier League win, which would be their first such streak this calendar year.
Real Sociedad vs Atletico Madrid (La Liga) The final game in this weekend’s Mega Jackpot takes place in Spain’s La Liga, where Real Sociedad will host Atletico Madrid at the Reale Arena in San Sebastian. Sociedad has been in poor form, winning just once in their last eight games and losing five of their previous six home matches. Atletico Madrid, despite a recent heavy defeat to Benfica in the Champions League, will be eager to bounce back and continue their dominant record over Sociedad, having not lost to them in their last nine meetings.
Why SportPesa’s Mega Jackpot is the best?
What sets the SportPesa Mega Jackpot apart from others is not just the massive prize pool but the level of engagement and reward it offers. The Mega Jackpot also offers an unrivaled sense of community. Many Kenyans eagerly anticipate each week’s fixture lineup, discussing predictions and sharing the excitement that comes with each game. Wheeling Nailers on 'Cloud Nine' Following Comeback Win, 4-3
The Wheeling Nailers continue to win games in amazing fashion, and Sunday afternoon's ninth straight triumph may have been one of the most improbable. Wheeling trailed the Orlando Solar Bears 3-0 with 18:59 remaining in the third period, before rallying back with three goals to force overtime. Tanner Laderoute tied the match with 1:39 left, then scored the game-winner at the 1:46 mark of the extra session. The nine-game winning streak remains the third longest in team history. The Solar Bears recorded the lone tally in the opening stanza, as they converted on their first power play in a matter of eight seconds. Jesse Jacques received a pass from Darik Angeli along the goal line, then immediately delivered a feed of his own to Mitchell Hoelscher, who zipped in a one-timer from the left face-off dot. Wheeling spent a good portion of the second period on the penalty kill, and was able to keep the deficit at one for the most part. However, with 1:27 remaining, Orlando added to its lead with a man advantage marker. Aaron Luchuk teed up Jérémie Biakabatuka, who drilled a laser of a one-timer into the left side of the cage. Mitchell Hoelscher collected another power play strike for the Solar Bears, as he tapped in a Jesse Jacques feed on the right side of the crease 1:01 into the third. Nine seconds later, the Nailers started their comeback. Thimo Nickl smashed a shot on goal that produced a huge rebound in the low slot. Matthew Quercia dove in and deposited the loose puck to put his club on the board. Step two of the comeback came at the 6:54 mark. Justin Addamo lofted a shot over the cage, but Jordan Martel quickly gathered the puck and set up Lukas Svejkovsky for the snipe from the slot. After seven straight trips to the penalty kill, Wheeling received three straight power plays, and the third one was the charm, as the equalizer came with 1:39 left on the third-period clock. Cédric Desruisseaux trickled a pass through the top of the crease to Tanner Laderoute, who took a couple of whacks at the puck and ultimately cashed in for a 3-3 deadlock. The fans didn't have to wait very long to cheer again, as the Nailers took 1:46 to win the game in overtime. Laderoute stole the puck in the left circle, looked over his options, then decided shooting was the best choice. He was correct, as he roofed a wrist shot into the top-right corner and set off the celebration. Taylor Gauthier snagged his seventh straight win in goal for Wheeling, as he blocked away 22 of the 25 shots he faced. Brandon Halverson took the overtime loss for Orlando, as he made 25 saves on 29 shots. The Nailers will visit the Reading Royals on Tuesday morning at 10:30, before returning home for two more contests against the Royals on Friday and Saturday at 7:10. Friday's game is a Frosty Friday featuring $2 beers. Saturday is the next Big Six Promotional Game - Pittsburgh Penguins Night. Fans will have the opportunity to meet two-time Stanley Cup Champion Trevor Daley, there will be a full team post game autograph session, mascots Iceburgh and Tux will be on hand, there will be a commemorative puck giveaway, and the team will be wearing specialty jerseys. The Wheeling Nailers, considered one of the top things to do in Wheeling, West Virginia, provide affordable family entertainment for fans throughout the Ohio Valley. Read the full article

A few weeks ago i recall walking up to you after a soccer match. You had a great performance and scored a hat trick in the match. Simply so fun to see, but also that you are having so much fun with it!
Then this past weekend it was a bit crazy. 4 matches. 1 saturday and 3 on sunday.
For the saturday match i dropped you off for warm ups. Took a walk through the park, talking to Kai about his move back to US, etc. i turned the corner just to see (I thought) the kickoff of your match. As i was watching, i thought it a bit odd how quickly you and a teammate got subbed out. But not long after you were back in the match.
Was fun as I watched you score 2 goals. After i walked up and saw that spark in your eye, and congratulated you on a good match. I knew it would be good- you woke up and talked about the match. How you were going to play hard and your team would win.
But you corrected me, no, not 2 goals, but 4! Apparently that was not the kickoff i saw. I had missed the first minute of the match, where you scored your first goal, and that was the kickoff after the goal that i saw. Also made sense with the timing and subbing, etc. then there was a moment where i turned from the field, only took my eyes off foe a minute as i said hello to another parent. And yup, missed that goal as well!
Really fun watching you play and the fun you are having out there! Proud pappa here
Love you little luki!

Composed by [famous composer]...or was it?
For the week of February 14th through February 21st, I will be posting pieces of music that have been thought to be composed by a famous composer but, after being analyzed by musicologists, have:
been determined to have been composed by someone else entirely and whose identity remains a mystery
had its authorship doubted based on stylistic grounds
had its authorship disputed because it may have possibly been composed by someone else and/or exists in another composer’s catalogue
The pieces that will be uploaded this week are as follows:
Sunday, February 14th: Sinfonia Concertante for Four Winds and Orchestra in E-flat Major, KV 297b, II. Adagio - Attributed to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, but authorship is doubted.
Through letters, it is known that Mozart apparently composed a piece with the specific scoring of KV 297b, but the original score has been lost. An anonymous copy (KV 297b) was discovered in 1869 in the collection of Otto Jahn. Although originally being uncritically attributed to Mozart, musicologists have found that, stylistically, the piece may not be his, with musicologist Donald Tovey even describing it as “blundering” and “inept.”
Monday, February 15th: Sonata for Violin and Harpsichord in F-Major, BWV 1022, II. Allegro e presto - Attributed to Johann Sebastian but authorship doubtful; may have been written by his son Carl Philipp Emanuel.
While the piece is currently attributed to Sebastian and shares some similarities to the Violin Sonata in G-Major (BWV 1021), which is unequivocally his, its authenticity is called into question. His son Emanuel is the possible composer.
Tuesday, February 16th: Concerto for Violin, Strings and Basso continuo in b-minor, formerly RV 385, II. Allegro - Formerly attributed to Vivaldi.
This work was determined to have been not been written by Vivaldi, presumably on stylistic grounds. The composer of the work has not been identified.
Wednesday, February 17th: Concerto for Solo Harpsichord in b-minor, TWV 33:Anh.1, I. Allegro - Attributed to Georg Philipp Telemann but authorship doubted.
This concerto for solo harpsichord is presumably an arrangement of a lost violin concerto by Telemann (TWV 51:h3). The work exists in his TWV catalogue’s appendix, and his authorship has been called into question because of the lack of the original score of the alleged violin concerto and for stylistic reasons. The leading of the solo parts in uniform sixteenth triplets seems out of place for Telemann, as does the recitative nature of the work’s second movement.
Thursday, February 18th: Concerto for Cello (or Violoncello Piccolo), Strings and Basso continuo in G-Major, RV Anh. 146 (formerly RV 415), III. Alla breve - Attributed to Vivaldi but authorship highly doubted.
While the concerto's genuineness went undoubted for a time, major stylistic changes called Vivaldi’s authorship into question. The final movement contains a fugal style that is not found in any of Vivaldi’s other cello concertos. It also does not match the style of fugues found in his violin concertos. Additionally, the titling of the second movement, “Siciliana,” was not used by Vivaldi in instrumental concertos with 12/8 slow movements. The piece has been removed from the main catalogue (RV 415) and added to the appendix (RV Anh. 146).
Friday, February 19th: Sonata for Violin and Basso continuo in c-minor, BWV 1024, IV. Vivace - Attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach but may have been written by Johann Georg Pisendel.
This violin sonata is traditionally associated with Bach, but further research suggests that it may have been written by Pisendel or even may have been a collaboration between the two composers (Köpp, Kai, Johann Georg Pisendel (1687-1755) and die Anfänge der neuzeitlichen Orchesterleitung, 2005).
Saturday, February 20th: Concerto for Flute, Violin, Strings and Basso continuo in e-minor, TWV 52:e3/Seibel 218, III. Presto IV. Adagio V. Allegro - Composed by either Georg Philipp Telemann or Johann David Heinichen.
The piece is listed in Telemann’s catalogue as TWV 52:e3 while some sources have listed the piece in Heinichen’s catalogue as Seibel 218. The piece has been recorded by different ensembles with some attributing the work to Telemann and others attributing it to Heinichen.
Sunday, February 21st: Concerto grosso in F-Major, Op. 3 No. 4b, IV. Allegro - Anonymous composer, formerly and erroneously attributed to George Frideric Handel.
The “Concerto grosso No. 4b” was formerly and erroneously attributed to Handel by the publisher John Walsh and was originally included in Handel’s Op. 3 set of Concerti grossi. The error was fixed, and, possibly by the request of Handel himself, the piece was removed from the set and was replaced by the correct Concerto grosso in F-Major (sometimes referred to as “Op. 3 No. 4a”). The dubious concerto is now currently referred to as “Op. 3 No. 4b” instead of “Op. 3 No. 4″. The original composer of this concerto is currently unknown.

Here We Are, Born to be Kings - AUgust Day 9
Title: Here We Are, Born to be Kings
Author: Purple_ducky00
Rating: Teen
Warnings: N/A
Pairing: Rhodey/Tony
Square Filled: G2 Dramatic Proposal
Link: Read on AO3
Summary: Prince James is in love with Lord Tony Stark, a childhood friend. However, the Starks have been disgraced due to embezzlement charges. Can they overcome this?
++++++++++
“Your Highness. Lord Stark is here to see you.” Quentin Beck holds up his nose.
Prince James Rhodes rolls his eyes. It’s not like Beck should judge. He was only hired because his family was in serious debt. Tony is working out of his.
Tony walks in a few minutes later, hair askew. “Wow, Rhodey, your servants hate me. I call it an achievement.”
“They just think it’s ok to judge since their scandals happened long ago enough for people to forget. You don’t deserve this.”
“I probably do.” Tony shrugs. “It doesn’t bother me. Actually, it gives me the chance to ditch my politeness because they already dislike me.”
“Oh for that luxury,” Rhodey sighs. He hates the protocol he must go through. Maybe that’s why he finds Tony so refreshing.
They first met at a football match. Tony was on the other team, and he told the young prince, “We’re not playing any easier because you’re the prince. So, be ready for that.”
Rhodey laughed and started playing. Tony’s team was clearly better, and they defeated Rhodey's team easily. After the game, Tony invited him to grab some lunch. They have been fast friends ever since.
Now, Rhodey is 22 and Tony is 21. Tony’s father died last year, and Tony inherited his estate. After going over the numbers, Tony’s godfather, Obadiah Stane informed him that Howard had been falsifying records and was basically bankrupt.
Dazed and reeling from his parents' sudden death, Tony doesn’t know what to do with this information. He reaches out for help, but as Howard had been stealing money from his peers, everyone refuses to help him. Rhodey offers to bail him out completely. Tony won’t let him. He decides he will work to pay off his father's debts.
Tony was always incredibly smart. His patented inventions were used worldwide. He decides to start his own company, Stark Enterprises, where he builds and sells hi-tech machinery and entertainment devices. As his company quickly grows, he branches out into clean energy and satellites. Not even a full year after starting his company, Tony is very successful. With only Stane and his PA, Pepper Potts, at his right hand, Tony makes sure that he himself takes care of the books. Every entry is painstakingly entered and checked by the big boss himself.
Rhodey is very proud of his friend, but it seems that his family is the only one in the kingdom that is. King Terrance and Queen Roberta love the young man as a son, but they often wonder if he is taking on too much, causing his sleepless nights and unhealthy eating habits. Tony waves them off saying he had had those problems before his parents had died.
Prince James’ PR agent tells him that finding someone to date might be a good look for him. Everyone is looking for news of the royal family, and they will only assume the worst if they don’t hear from each member. Queen Roberta’s cooking classes and bingo games are televised. The king does a podcast twice a month. Jeannie plays tennis professionally. James is the only one without a big public profile, and he prefers that. However, there are some people who think that James is being pushed out of the spotlight or being abused in some kind. To quell any quickly rising rumors, Rhodey agrees to attend sports matches and talk to the press for a few minutes each time. When Tony’s not working his ass off, he often accompanies Tony.
What Rhodey doesn’t tell his PR agent is the reason he doesn’t date. He is hopelessly in love with Tony and admitting that would be bad for a few reasons. 1.) Everyone in the country is against Tony. They would slander his name even more if they thought he had got his “money-grubbing claws” in the prince. 2.) Tony is straight. He had never told Rhodey otherwise, and he has only dated women as far as Rhodey knows. 3.) He doesn’t want any reason to make Tony uncomfortable in the only place he is welcome other than his home. So, he skirts the topic because fake dating is not his idea of fun.
Now, Tony’s here and Rhodey knows he’s giving Tony heart eyes. “So, you’ve got a day off from me. What’s the plan, Rhodey?”
“You pick today. I’m up for anything.” Rhodey trusts that Tony won’t do anything Rhodey can’t.
Tony sits on the chair beside Rhodey. “I need to sit. I don’t think I’ve stopped moving for a week.”
“So, what you’re saying is you need sleep.” Rhodey retorts.
“No, I need to spend time with my Rhodeybear. We never did that Star Wars marathon after Rise of Skywalker came out, did we?” Tony pokes him. “We can order like tons of pizza and greasy foods and bro it out like the old times.”
Stuck in a theatre room with only Tony and highly unhealthy food? “Sounds like a great day. Let’s queue up the movies. I’ll have |Miss Cabe order our food. The usual?” Tony nods and heads off to the theater.
Rhodey pulls out his phone and texts a maid, Bethany Cabe, to place an order for the following: an extra-large bacon pizza, two orders of cheesy curly fries, mozzarella sticks, and onion rings. Rhodey has cases of Tony’s favorite beer, so they did not need to worry about drinks.
As they settle in to watch the movies, Tony tells him, “Wake me up if I fall asleep. I don’t want to miss Episode Six again.”
“Come on Tones, Return of the Jedi isn’t the best.” Rhodey smirks.
Tony glares at him. “It’s my favorite. Leave me alone. Go ahead and like Empire or whatever one you like the best. Geez.”
“You know mine is Episode Three. The tragedy, the pain, the John Williams’ scores? A masterpiece.”
“Anakin deserved better.” Tony mumbles as he eats a bite of pizza. Rhodey sighs. He’s heard this rant many times, and he’ll probably hear it again tonight. Tony really gets into these movies.
Tony falls asleep at the end of A New Hope, his head falling on Rhodey’s shoulder. He looks so exhausted so Rhodey lets him sleep through Empire since Tony thinks it’s overhyped or something. Rhodey likes it. When Return of the Jedi starts, Rhodey nudges Tony awake. “Episode 6? Honeybear, you are an angel.” Tony kisses his cheek.
By the time The Last Jedi comes on, both of the men are sleeping. Jeannette comes in to check on them and snaps a picture of Tony lying on top of Rhodey, both snoring away.
Rhodey wakes up a few hours later and freezes. Tony is sleeping peacefully on him, his head on Rhodey’s chest. He doesn’t dare move in fear of waking Tony up. He slowly reaches for his phone and scrolls through Instagram and other social media apps until Tony wakes up.
Tony wakes up slowly, but when he’s fully awake he jumps up and goes. “I’ve got to get to work!”
“Hey Tony. It’s Sunday. We were going to spend Saturday and Sunday together, right?”
“Oh. Oh. Whew. I thought.” Tony slumps. “Probably hallucinating from all that grease.”
“Maybe we should get a little more sleep in a real bed.” Rhodey suggests. Tony nods, and they walk up to Rhodey’s room. Since they were kids, Tony always slept in Rhodey’s bed with him. They only ever slept and/or cuddled, and Rhodey has a king bed in case either of them needed their own space.
They go to Jeannie’s tennis match then accompany her to an expensive Italian restaurant for dinner. The next morning, there are pictures splashed across the tabloids. Stark trying to get in with the Royal Family? Read more on page 3! One says. The Apple Doesn’t Fall far from the Tree – Another Gold-Digging Stark! Rhodey shakes his head. He was afraid this would happen. He calls his PR agent, Maria Hill.
She answers with a “Now do you see why having a partner would be good?”
“Yes. Do you have any candidates who would be willing to date with no sex and/or strings attached? For public only?”
“You don’t know how many celebrities only hope for that. Let me see which ones I can get. I’ll send you over a packet when I get them.”
When he gets the packet, Rhodey isn’t surprised to find that 75% of them are women. Skipping through them, he tells Maria to reach out to an A-list actress Natasha Romanov. She is a beautiful woman, and they seem to have a lot of the same likes and dislikes. She agrees to meet with Rhodey at a small café near the palace. He introduces himself as Rhodey, then corrects it to “James or Jim” when Romanov gives him an odd look. “I’m sorry. My best friend always calls me Rhodey. It’s just what I expect now. I mean, if you want to call me that in private, it’s fine. Maria thinks it’s better if you call me James or Jim when talking with the press.”
“Tell me about this best friend.” Natasha leans forward. “He sounds like a nice guy.”
Rhodey launches into a detailed description of Tony: his strengths, his flaws, his quirks, etc. When he’s done, she asks, “And you’re dating me because you can’t date him?”
“How did you…?”
“You’re in love with him. Just look at your face. It’s ok. I won’t tell the press. I have almost the same problem. I’m in a poly relationship with a different celebrity couple. However, since Hollywood, even with its sex scandals, still looks down on poly relationships. I need a beard to keep our activity on the downlow. Is that acceptable for you?”
Rhodey nods. “Of course. And you’re right. I love Tony, but I need to keep the press out of his life. His father put him through a lot, and he’s trying to make up for Howard’s sins. He doesn’t need the extra press coverage. Also, I don’t know if he likes me like that. I’ve never seen him date a guy.”
“Well, I’d like to meet him.”
+++++++ Natasha and Tony eventually meet. Tony is happy to meet her, but Rhodey feels that Tony is wearing one of his many masks. |When they kiss goodnight, Natasha tells him, “Rhodey, he likes you.”
“Not that I want to doubt you, but I’m highly doubtful on this one here.”
A few months pass, and Natasha and Prince James are photographed at red carpet events, at sports games, and at galas. Rumors are spreading that Prince James might propose soon. Natasha shows up at the palace for a surprise visit. “Hey, can we talk?” She pulls James from his family dinner.
She tells him how the couple that she is dating are planning on coming out to the press as poly with her because they know some younger people who are receiving hate for their relationships. They want to be allies for such people. And they want her there when they come out. “Can we say we amicably split? I’d love to keep in contact with you.”
“That sounds good.” His phone pings. He has a google alert set up for Tony because the press likes to come up to him for hostile interviews at the most inopportune times. James does his best to save him. “Listen Nat, I will talk to my publicist, but I have to go.”
The press has trapped Tony on the palace driveway. “What do you think of Prince James marrying Ms. Romanov?” One reporter asks.
“I didn’t know they got engaged, but I think they are an excellent match. Well-suited for each other.” Rhodey can see Tony is keeping his press face on but was not ready for the sudden press conference.
Another reporter sneers. “We know you were trying to get a piece of the royalty. Will you try for the princess now that the prince is spoken for?”
“Excuse me?” Tony reels. “What are you talking about?”
“They’ll never have you. You’re just a charity case to them. What do you think of that? Did you think Prince James really liked you? Especially after what your father did?” Another reporter shoves a microphone in his face.
Tony loses his mask. “Do I think Rho- Prince James really liked me? I have known the prince since we were young teenagers. I know he likes me… as a friend. But anything more? No. He never did, never will. I know what my father did; I know what I have to do to fix it. My father and Prince James have no correlation. What are you even trying to say here?” Rhodey can see the pain in Tony’s eyes. They flash when he says that Rhodey will never like him as anything more as a friend.
“Excuse me.” Rhodey steps forward. “Can you step away from him, please?”
The press apologizes and steps away. “Now, I want to say this once more and hopefully never again. Lord Stark is not his father. Lord Stark is paying his father’s investors back as quickly as he can. He started up his business on his own with his trust fund from his maternal grandmother. Howard never saw or added to a penny of that fund. What is the point of hating a man for the sins of his father? Keep rolling. I am talking to the country as a whole. Leave him alone, please. I want to say one more thing. Tony Stark, you are the love of my life. The reason I have not dated is because the only person I have ever loved was you. Yes, Natasha and I dated, but we did to keep other things hidden. I’m sure she will let you know at some point. It’s not my job. Tony, again, I love you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you and perhaps rule with you. I do not have a ring yet because I had not planned to propose to you in front of live TV today, yet here I am. Will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?”
“You’re serious?” Tony gasps.
“Completely.”
“Then Rhodey, my Honeybear, my Platypus, my Sourpatch, I will marry you in a heartbeat.” Tony smiles widely, and Rhodey kisses him deeply, in front of the cameras. As they turn to the palace, Tony turns back to the cameras, lifts his middle finger, and says, “Fuck you” whilst smiling sweetly.
++++++ The country is so shocked at Prince James’ dramatic proposal. People wonder if Tony is a good fit for the prince due to his blatant disregard for protocol. Princess Jeannie posts the picture she took of them sleeping in the theatre room on Instagram, the caption “I knew it.” She broke the internet with the most likes on an Instagram post.
Tony goes through his numbers and his father’s numbers again to make sure everyone is paid off. While looking at his father’s records again, he notices some discrepancies from Obadiah’s report. The truth comes out – Howard had not done anything wrong; it was Obadiah. He falsified documents, records, and even bills to give him much more money. Obadiah is fired and imprisoned. Tony’s name is cleared. Anthony Stark marries Prince James Rhodes a happy man.

I wish you would write a fic where peter has some trouble sleeping and he goes to tony for help (irondad is best and I love how you write them)
A/N: I added a Read More break in this; I’m so sorry if it isn’t working on your Dash or in mobile.
---
((WOW as per usual this took forever; I’m so sorry, and thank you for your patience!!!))
I can do that. As many of my IronDad fics are these days, this is set in a Post-Endgame Universe that ends the way we deserved it to. (Also thank you?? So much????) As per usual, I don’t know if this is what you envisioned, but here it is anyway. I hope you like it!

A Week in the Life of an Overly Anxious Insomniac (a.k.a. Post-Finals Week)
-
Friday
Peter Parker crawls in through his bedroom window after the fullest week of his whole life. He’s just finished his Junior year of high school, meaning that his end-of-year finals are the roughest and toughest, and he’s barely made it through them unscathed. Peter’s an above average student for above average students, much less the general population, so he keeps up with his studies well, especially after Tony and May teamed up to implement some Big Brother-level safe guards to make sure he was held accountable for his allotted homework and Spider-Man hours.
The teenager pulls himself upright and runs a hand through his hair, a deep sigh emanating from his chest as he pulls off his Spider-Man suit. He glances at the clock; 1:30AM shines back silently at him, the one-time extended patrol hours Tony and May had allowed him in light of the end of the school year and successful exams.
Once he’s free of his enhanced spandex, Peter pulls on a t-shirt and sweatpants and collapses onto his bed, his nose buried in his covers, but his eyes remain open. He stares languidly at a spot on his wall, likely food from his and Ned’s last sleepover.
The seconds tick past, soon turning into minutes, and then an hour has gone by, and somehow he’s still wide awake. He’s tried to drop off multiple times, but a prickling sensation across his back, like’s he’s being watched, keeps him from relaxing into sleep.
Peter sighs in frustration and takes out his phone, scrolling through countless ridiculous news articles until his body shuts itself off around 5AM.
Saturday
Peter awakes at 9:30AM and groans. At least it’s Saturday, so he can sleep more. He rolls over just in time for his phone to go wild where he’d discarded it beneath his bed earlier that morning. He gropes blindly for the device and clicks it on, sleepily scrolling through the barrage of messages in his group chat with Ned and MJ.
Ned: Expo day!
MJ: Expo day.
Ned: Peter!! EXPO DAY!
Ned: P
Ned: E
Ned: T
Ned: E
Ned: R
Ned: WAKE UP
Peter rolls his eyes but can’t suppress a grin as he types out his response.
Peter: I’m awake geez
It’s not even until 4PM
Ned: Yeah, but still. We have to make sure we have our itinerary down and the layout of the place just in case something ya know crazy happens.
Peter: Right yeah sure
MJ: I’m not wearing the matching t-shirts
Ned: Pleeeeeaaassse MJ!!!!!!!!
MJ: …..without something else over it
Ned: *peace fingers emoji*
MJ: why didn’t you just send the actual emoji
Ned: You have an IPhone. The emojis always show up differently.
MJ: Not that one, idiot
Ned: Oh whatEVER
Peter nearly drops his phone on his face, so he rolls to his side and types out a final message.
Peter: I’m hitting snooze. See you guys this afternoon.
Peter switches his phone to silent mode and lays an arm over his face. After a week of multiple all-nighters on top of a full patrol and 4 ½ hours of sleep last night (this morning, he corrects himself with a grunt), he just wants to sleep until he absolutely has to be up. He sends a quick wake-up call request to May before pulling his covers back over his head.
-
Peter, Ned, and MJ crash at Ned’s apartment around 12:30AM. The Expo (an invitation courtesy of Tony Stark, of course) had been incredible, showcasing the latest and greatest technology on the market and coming to the market, from Stark Industries to OsCorp and everything in between.
The trio reclines on the Leeds’ comfy sectional, Ned passing out as soon as his body hits the cushions. MJ is curled in a half doze in the crook of the couch, and Peter spreads along the unoccupied middle section, propped sidelong against the back. He stares at his crossed ankles as the TV plays quietly in the background. His vision swims in and out of focus, trying to let him fall into sleep, but something keeps pulling him back just as he’s on the brink, like fingers trailing across his back.
Peter knows no one else is in the room with him. He hears Ned and MJ’s separate, steady breathing on either side of him, but something about their presences, how strongly he can sense them, keeps him from falling out of consciousness. Their presence should be a comforting tether, but he finds it more restrictive now. He shakes his head minutely at the thought.
After about fifteen minutes, Peter sighs in defeat and positions himself to watch Nickelodeon’s late night programming, finally dropping off around 4AM.
-
Sunday
Sadly for Peter, Ned and MJ are both early risers; they stir around 7:30 but lay poking at their phones until 8. Peter tries to fall back to sleep, but MJ’s accusatory “faker” has him popping his eyes open to defend himself.
“I think I deserve it.” Peter grumbles while rubbing an eye. “My longest night of sleep all week was like 5 ½ hours. Maybe.”
“That’s unhealthy.”
“That’s finals week.”
“I wish you’d told us, Peter.” Ned chimes in with a yawn. “We could have come home way earlier last night.”
“It’s fine.” Peter sighs and pushes himself up. “It was totally worth it. I’ll probably pass out tonight, so it’s fine.”
-
As if the universe loves proving him wrong, that evening once again finds Peter restless. He can’t seem to get comfortable in any position.
Left side.
Right side.
Back.
Stomach.
He even swaps his head to the foot of the bed and tries a diagonal position.
No dice.
He tenses up every muscle in his body and releases.
He keeps his eyes open for as long as he can without blinking.
He tries to force his breathing to become heavy and even.
Nothing.
His mind and body are exhausted, he can feel it, but they just refuse to shut off.
Peter pulls his pillow over his face and groans loudly.
-
Monday
Peter gets about 3 hours of sleep before May pokes her head in to ask for his help; she’s been on a minimalist kick lately and wants Peter to help her carry her donations to her car.
He smiles bitterly when he sees the black Sharpie scribbles on the outsides of the boxes:
Ben’s Clothes
Peter’s Toys
Wedding Pictures
Kitchen
Labels marked over and re-named Donations.
Peter’s eyes are suddenly watery, and he quickly deposits the boxes in May’s car before running a hand over his face.
May shoots him an inquisitive look but drops the issue, giving him a quick squeeze of a hug before thanking him and getting in her car. Peter waves as she leaves and sighs.
He could text Ned or MJ to go get coffee, but the walking distance just seems to far today.
He goes back upstairs and spends the day watching lame TV on the couch.
He doesn’t sleep at all that night.
-
Tuesday
Peter spends the whole day keeping busy. He organizes and cleans the apartment. He volunteers to walk his neighbors’ dogs. He goes for lunch with MJ and Ned and even sets out early as Spider-Man.
The evening hours come around, and he settles in with May on the couch watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. They keep score, Peter easily beating all of the contestants, and he begs May to stay with him and play with his hair as he puts on the most boring documentary he can find.
May acquiesces after studying him briefly, but she nods off after about half an hour, her hand resting in his hair.
Peter puts his hands over his face and swallows a sob, painfully, fully awake.
-
Wednesday
It’s starting to get to him, the lack of sleep.
He ignores May that morning when she calls to him to join her for french toast and fruit.
He tells Ned and MJ he can’t swing lunch that day though he has nothing planned.
He nearly cries when his phone lights up with his reminder that Tony Stark is back from his business trip, and again when said man sends him a message.
Tony: Hey, squirt. I’m back stateside. You free to come to the Lakehouse for a few days? Mo misses you.
Peter actually takes a few moments to consider before he catches himself. Not a good sign.
Peter: Yeah, I’m free. I’ll come tomorrow.
-
Thursday
Peter kisses May goodbye that morning with a promise of letting her know when he gets to the Cabin.
Happy comes for him around 10:30, and it’s after noon by the time they pull up to Tony Stark’s home away from home.
Morgan is on the porch the moment their car doors slam and is tackling Peter nearly to the ground before he can reach the trunk to get his bag. She squeezes the air from his lungs as she babbles excitedly about how they’re going to spend the next few days, her first days of summer vacation, together.
“Let him breathe, Monkey.”
Peter looks up to find Tony on the porch, metal arm on a post and flesh arm waving lightly. Peter ushers up a smile and a small wave in return before hoisting Morgan up into his arms. The teenager crosses to the porch stops before his mentor.
“Made it through another finals week, huh?”
“Barely.” Peter’s tone is more biting than he wants, and he hopes Tony didn’t notice. He’s definitely giving Peter a once-over now.
“Hap? Take Morgan inside, please?”
“Sure. Come here, Princess.”
“Uncle Happy, can I have cookies?”
“Don’t let her fool you, Hap; she’s already had her post-lunch snack.”
Morgan folds her arms and pouts as Happy chuckles and takes her inside.
“He didn’t say anything about juice pops-”
“Traitor.” Tony mumbles as Happy shuts the door behind them.
It’s quiet for a moment, the lake lapping at the shoreline barely audible as they look out and then at each other. Tony’s gaze stays on Peter, and the boy can’t help but look away.
“What’s up, kid?”
“What do you mean?”
“Your eyes are bloodshot. And last time I checked, Pep didn’t pop out a ten ton toddler, so Morgan shouldn’t be able to knock you over like that.”
“I was just playing with her.”
“Uh huh. Well,” Tony is clearly a bit peeved with Peter, but he drops the issue. “I assume you haven’t had lunch yet, so maybe some food in you will make you more talkative.”
“Thanks.”
“Turkey?”
“Perfect.”
-
Peter passes the afternoon between Tony and Morgan, the former occupying him with projects in his small workshop and the latter demanding to be occupied by him all over the property.
For all intents and purposes, he should be exhausted.
And yet 2:30AM finds him wide awake and near to breaking.
He’s laying on his side facing his clock, the red letters displaying “2:31AM.” He stares and stares and stares until he feels like the letters are bored into his brain. He closes his eyes, and they pop back open again like they’re on a spring.
Peter rolls into his back and stares at the dark patches on his ceiling, remnants of the knotholes that used to be, tensing and relaxing his gaze, squinting and releasing, rolling his eyes around in vain hopes of exhausting his eyes to closing with no luck.
He flips onto his left side with a huff and curls into the fetal position, hoping somehow he can trick his anxiety-ridden brain into believing he is safe and can sleep soundly. He’s in the middle of the woods of New York in what is likely the safest cabin in the entire world, and yet his body refuses to relax and let him sleep.
Peter slaps his comforter in frustration and bolts upright, his heartbeat drumming painfully in his chest and blood pumping in his ears. He swings his feet over the side of the bed, grabs his Midtown hoodie, and slides open the window; he sits on the edge for a moment or two before dropping silently to the ground. Slipping his hands into his hoodie pocket, Peter quietly follows the moonlit path to the dock; he stands there for a little while, tracing every shape and shadow the reflected glow will let him see, listening to every scuttle and shuffle in the trees and on the ground.
He wouldn’t pick out the light footsteps in any other circumstance, but their contrast to those he’s more familiar with sets him at ease.
“I’m sorry if I woke you up.” Peter chokes out as Pepper comes to stand beside him.
The woman is hugging her bathrobe to herself despite the warmth of the season, but she doesn’t seem agitated from what Peter can tell.
“You didn’t.” There’s an undercurrent of a scoff in her tone. “Overseas conference call. We had to meet on their terms.”
“That’s not fair.”
“We trade off.”
“Oh.”
They stand in silence for a few beats before Pepper sighs.
“He struggles with insomnia, too, you know.”
“Really?”
“Of course. Afghanistan. His heart. New York. That crazy Russian. Hammer. Ultron. Thanos. St-….Everything. I’d be amazed if he went through everything he has while maintaining a decent sleep schedule.” Pepper’s tone is a little hard, but Peter knows she doesn’t mean ill will toward him. She’s been with Tony through far longer than he has. She’s quiet for a few seconds before quietly adding, her tone lighter, “He called an Iron Man suit on me once.”
Peter sucks in a breath.
“I don’t think he meant to, but he had so much going on that he wasn’t dealing with already, and…we were going through a rough patch…The anxiety was eating him alive. Don’t tell him I told you all of that.” Her tone is more conspiratorial than regretful. “He’s never forgiven himself for it, but you should know. He deals with it, too. The anxiety. Feeling unsettled all the time.”
“There’s just…always something. I feel like can’t really rest.”
Pepper nods. “I don’t know the full scope of your abilities, but May’s told me about your…Peter Tingle?”
Peter cringes. “Spider Sense is what I prefer, but yeah. Maybe that’s related to all of this.”
“Probably.” Pepper is quiet for a moment. “You know…he would do whatever he needs to help. All you have to do is ask.”
“Okay.” Peter turns just a bit and gives her a tired smile. “Thanks, Pepper.”
“Of course, sweetheart.” Pepper holds out an arm for him, and he gladly steps in to it.
Peter will always be secretly, selfishly thankful for how Morgan softened the Starks while he was gone, allowing him to fall in their never-ending streams of comfort that didn’t exist before he disappeared.
Peter feels a pull where Pepper’s hand rests on his shoulder, and he allows her to guide them back inside. He falls asleep an hour later.
-
Tony has multiple business calls the next day, so it’s mid-afternoon when Peter finally gets some alone time with his mentor-turned-father-figure. They’re sitting on a small pier Tony built over the lake, swinging on a bench swing Morgan insisted they needed after Pepper had one installed on the front porch months earlier. They’re seated on opposite ends of the swing, Peter’s feet propped between them as they gaze out over the water, each lost in their respective thoughts.
Peter taps Tony’s arm with his toes after a while, and the man scrunches up his nose in false disgust.
“The last thing I want on my arm, even lower on the totem pole than Morgan’s boogers, is stinky teenager feet.”
“I will have you know that I clean my feet quite well and quite regularly, my good sir.” Peter falls into a vaguely British accent, accentuating each of the last three words with its own individual toe tap to Tony’s arm.
“Disgusting. I’m tainted.” Tony rests his arm over the back of the swing. “So, I hear you and Pepper had a little late night stroll to the dock.”
“She told you?”
“FRIDAY did. She’s a bit of a tattletale.”
“She really is.”
“Woke me up and everything, and I was finally getting a good night’s sleep.”
Peter feels heat rise to his cheeks. “Sorry. Uh, and sorry you haven’t been sleeping well.”
Tony shrugs. “It happens. Especially when I go from being in the city, as we were in Bangladesh, to being back out here in the quiet. Hard to adjust sometimes. To relax fully.”
“Yeah.” Peter stares resolutely out at the lake.
“So, what were you and my wife chatting about at such an hour?”
“Just…business?”
“So you got up and took Pepper out to the dock to ask her about her business call?”
“Not exactly. I mean, it came up, but…I was out there first.”
“Oh, really? So she came out as a recon. mission, then?”
“I guess so.”
“Why were you out there in the middle of the night, if you don’t mind my asking?”
“….I couldn’t sleep.”
“Yeah? Why not?”
Peter inhales through his nose. “Not sure. But it’s not a big deal.”
“If you say so.”
Peter looks through the corners of his eyes and finds Tony studying him before the man decides to stand, stretching and popping his back as he does so.
“Care for a walk around the lake?”
-
Peter collapses onto the couch when they return, staring through the windows to the side porch and watching Tony and Pepper prepare dinner together on the outside grill.
Morgan is hunched over at his feet, scribbling furiously in her current favorite coloring book.
“Whatchya doodling, Moomoo?”
“A cat.” Morgan holds up a good-sized image of what is now an orange tabby.
“Looks good.”
“Thanks.” The little one goes back to her coloring, more quietly this time, and Peter settles back against the arm of the couch. He stares at the ceiling, willing himself to relax if it means he can even get a nap in before dinner, but his body just won’t have it. He can hear his heartbeat. Morgan’s heartbeat. Every mechanical and electrical noise in the house goes in and out of focus as he just lays there, trying not to show his frustration and upset Morgan.
“Hey, Pete.” Tony pokes his head in and nearly makes the teen jump. “Can you grab the meat out of the fridge?”
“Yeah.” Peter sits up slowly and stands, feeling Tony’s eyes on him as he crosses to the kitchen. “Sh-oot.” Peter catches himself just in time after his toe has a gnarly collision with a dining table leg. “Missed that somehow…” He grumbles as he pulls the food out of the freezer and brings it back to Tony. Peter just catches the man’s critical gaze before it snaps into easy speculation.
“Thanks, bud.” Tony claps a hand on Peter’s shoulder, and they go out together, Peter’s hopes of relief forgotten as the afternoon melts into evening.
-
It’s the same old story, and one he is so tired of re-living.
Peter full on glares at the ceiling as his heart pounds in his chest, refusing to slow down no matter how he tries to force out slow, even breaths. He clenches his eyes shut but the frustrated tears have already bloomed there and spilled over his cheeks, drawing twin lines down over his temples and pooling on his pillow. He swipes a hand over his face and sniffs hard, rolling onto his side to glare at the clock now.
3:33am.
The witching hour. Or at least that’s what MJ calls it. It definitely feels like he’s being hexed right now as his eyes seem to remain open of their own accord, in spite of all of his efforts to get them to comply with the exhaustion in his limbs, his bones.
“Why the hell can’t I sleep?” He mouths silently at the glowing numbers, the frustration spilling over again, but he doesn’t bother to wipe them away this time. He doesn’t cry all that often, really, not when he’s mad, at least, but night after night of not sleeping enough, especially after exerting himself so much, has worn him thin, and crying is all he can do to keep from screaming, stomping, hurling and throwing things. He’s past the point of being upset with his insomnia and reached the point of searing anger, at himself for not being able to overcome this obstacle and whatever power has placed this plague on him. He grits his teeth until his jaw aches, and he nearly cracks a tooth when an owl sees fit to chime in on his thoughts from outside his window.
Peter pushes himself up and gazes toward his window, the scene from last night playing through his mind in a strange 3rd person point-of-view, as if he is FRIDAY watching him from the house instead of himself experiencing it. Something Pepper said pokes at his consciousness, and he frowns.
You know…he would do whatever he needs to help. All you have to do is ask.
All you have to do is ask.
Peter stares intently at the window for a moment, contemplating before he finally sighs deeply and throws his covers off. As much as he hates to put anything else on the man’s plate, Peter knows that Tony will understand his plight; plus, he’s been eyeing Peter ever since he arrived, so the teen figures it’s more merciful to put the man out of his miserable curiosity.
Peter stops outside of Tony and Pepper’s door, listening for a moment and frowning when he only hears one person breathing and snoring softly. Definitely not Tony. He quietly pads to Morgan’s door and listens, only hearing the even lighter breathing of the little girl, and his brows crease.
Peter heads toward the stairs and picks up the faint light shining from downstairs; he quietly mounts them and steps down to the ground floor, absorbing Tony sitting on the couch with a book in one hand, a cup of tea in the other. It’s so domestic that it brings the tears back to Peter’s eyes, the idea of Tony finally being this relaxed and at home somewhere pulling at something deep in Peter’s core.
“I was wondering when you’d show up.”
Tony’s voice startles Peter, the silence Peter hadn’t realized he’d settled in to shattered, and now the air holds an expectation of being filled with vibrating waves that Peter isn’t sure he’s ready to relinquish. The idea of finally confiding in Tony had seemed palpable when he was upstairs, alone and breaking anyway, but now that he’s here and sees Tony, thinks back to everything he’s been through, Peter suddenly feels selfish and silly.
“Quit overthinking. Come sit with me.”
Peter’s gaze snaps from the window to which it’s wandered and back to his mentor. Tony has put down the book and tea by now and is watching him intently but not oppressively; there’s no scrutiny in his eyes or demand in his body language, just an open invitation.
Peter crosses the room stiffly and sits beside Tony, staring ahead and body refusing to relax right away.
“Geez, you’re wound up tight. Come here.” Tony beckons Peter toward him, and the teen stares.
“What?”
“I’m gonna rub your shoulders, kid. Don’t make it weird.” Tony rolls his eyes. “Unless you’re genuinely uncomfortable with it, then I won’t.”
“No, it’s okay….I’m just….getting used to it.”
“To what?”
“To you being all…”
“Domestic?”
“Exactly.”
Tony snorts.
“That’s like, the one benefit of disappearing for five years.”
Tony clenches his jaw, and Peter sighs through his nose. It’s always too soon for Tony.
“Sorry…I just mean…You had a kid while I was gone. You got all paternal and stuff, and now I get to reap the benefits of that, I guess.”
“Yeah, we’re definitely more touchy feely than before, huh?”
“I just figured that was because you missed me.” Peter smiles a bit, mischief tugging at the corners of his lips.
“I did, kid. So much.”
Peter’s smile falls to neutrality. “I know. I….I guess I missed you, too. I don’t remember much.”
“Hopefully we’ll keep it that way.” Tony mumbles. “So, shoulder rub?”
Peter considers for a moment. “Sure, why not.” He scoots closer to Tony, and the man’s warm hand on his tense neck and shoulder muscles immediately help him relax just a fraction.
“Geez, kid; you been working out these muscle groups or have you been that tense over finals?”
Peter blinks. “You know, now that you mention it, I guess I have been pretty tense over the last couple of weeks.”
“Yeah? You think that’s causing your sleeping problems?”
“How did you know about that?”
“This is the second night in a row that you’re awake with a Stark parent in the dead of night in one of the safest places in the world. Call it a hunch.”
Peter lets out an involuntary snort. “Yeah…It’s been a solid two weeks since I got a good night of sleep.”
“Two Fridays ago?”
“Yeah.”
“Why? Did you procrastinate? Too many Spidey hours?”
“No, no, I was ready just…nervous I guess. Not sure why. I guess because I had a lot of tough academic classes this semester. There’s just kind of an air of tension, you know? Even if I feel okay, if everyone else is stressed out, I just kind of pick up on that. I guess it’s my senses.”
“That makes sense.”
“And sometimes I tend to just….hang on to that tension even after the school year is over, you know? After I took my first AP Exam, I had three separate dreams that I was taking the exam over again. It’s like a high that I can’t come down from or something.”
“Mmm.” Tony hums his attention while giving special care to a particularly tough knot near the base of Peter’s neck. “Geez, kid, we really have to work on your posture. No more studying in bed.”
“Oh, yeah, May told me not to do that.”
“Wait, did you actually study in bed?”
“…..Yeah.”
“Pete. Kid. You’re too smart for this. Seriously, you should only sleep in your bed. Anything else encourages you to be awake in that space.”
“When did you become an expert on this stuff?”
“When I became a workaholic and was doing work in the comfort of my bed that I couldn’t ever sleep in because my mind was always buzzing with work to be done.”
“Oh….ah!” Peter flinches as Tony pushes his metal thumb against the aforementioned knot.
“Sorry, bud. This one’s a booger.”
Peter squirms uncomfortably as Tony presses on the tough spot in his back, sucking in a harsh breath when the man ups the pressure but sagging in relief when he eases off.
“Anything else bothering you?” Tony prompts quietly as he places his flesh hand over the base of Peter’s neck to massage the top of his spine.
Peter nearly groans as Tony works at the new spot of tension he’s found. “….No, not really.”
“You hesitated.”
“So?” There’s more discomfort than bite in Peter’s tone.
“You’re not exactly one to choose your words carefully, Pete.” Tony’s lowers his voice and evens out his tone as much as he can. “You speed through every conversation like that ugly blue hedgehog thing.”
“Sonic.”
“Sure,” Tony shrugs. “But we were talking about you hesitating.”
“You were, really.”
“Sure, I was, but it really is one of your tells for when you’re not being totally honest with me.”
“Since when do you pay so much attention to me?” Peter’s nostrils flare just a bit after the fact.
“Ooo so that’s it, then? Feeling neglected by your mentor-slash-idol?” Tony has laced jest into his tone to compensate for the pinched brows Peter cannot see. He knows Peter looks up to him as a father figure, especially considering all they’ve been through together, and icy guilt stabs through him as he thinks of Peter missing him and longing for his re-assurance in these last days of the semester. “You know I’m always a video call away, buddy.”
“I know….” Peter winces, and Tony apologizes quietly. “…but you’re busy.”
“I’m retired, kid. Not a superhero anymore, remember? And Pepper and her people run Stark Industries.”
“You were just in Wakanda for two weeks.”
“That was…a friendly visit, we’ll call it.” Tony pats Peter’s back lightly and reclines against the couch cushions. “That’s all I can do for now, kiddo. Hand’s too tired.”
“Thanks.” Peter rolls his shoulders and settles back, too, distanced from Tony at the other end of the couch.
“Seriously, though.” Tony levels Peter with a gaze, and the teen can’t look away. “Anything you need, any time, Peter. I’m here for you. I didn’t invent time travel to get you back and pawn you off on May again.”
Peter nods, his face unreadable as he continues to stare at Tony like an animal deciding if he’s trustworthy or not.
“C’mere, squirt.” Tony holds out an arm and blinks when Peter hesitates before crawling into his partial embrace. The man sighs and leans his head back, tracing the barely visible grooves in the wood paneled ceiling. “Do you remember the last time we sat like this?”
“Yesterday?”
“Yes, smartass, but I was thinking more about the hour. The last time we were both up at 3am.”
Peter considers for a moment, following Tony’s gaze before realization seems to strike him; his eyes widen a fraction before falling to the coffee table.
“Oh, yeah.”
Tony squeezes Peter’s shoulder.
“We didn’t do a lot this year. We were both too busy on the day of to go to his grave.”
“Does that bother you?”
“A little…but it’s not like he knows. And…I don’t know if we really wanted to this year, you know? With everything that’s happened, death is just such a weird thing to think about right now.”
“That makes sense.”
Peter’s breath catches just a bit. “She gave some of his stuff away the other day. She asked me to help her carry it out to her car, and she didn’t even…acknowledge it or whatever.”
Tony is quiet for a moment. “I’m sorry, buddy.”
Peter is lost in thought for a few moments. “Well, I think so, anyway. She had donation boxes, and they were taped up, but the side was marked, ‘Ben’s Clothes’ and ‘Wedding Pictures. I never saw inside, so I don’t know for sure. And like I said, she didn’t say anything, which is weird for her, honestly, so maybe she was just using the boxes.”
“You could ask her.”
“I don’t think so. That would probably upset her…Besides, I doubt she actually did get rid of them, but something about loading all of that stuff into her car just…it felt like the day I first came to them, or when we moved after the blip. So much transition, and the thought of transitioning past Ben on top of how much I haven’t been sleeping was just…”
“The straw that broke the camel’s back.”
“Exactly.” Peter’s voice is thin and quiet, wispy like a passing breeze, strained like a taut muscle, and weighted with meaning like a fierce whisper.
Tony is rubbing his hand over Peter’s shoulder and pretends not to notice when Peter rubs his hand over his eyes. He does notice the second time, though, and laughs a bit when Peter lets out a loud yawn. “You sleepy now?”
“Yeah. I could sleep for days.”
“Do that. I’ll keep Momo occupied tomorrow-” Tony snorts. “Today. Sleep as long as you need to.”
“Thanks, Tony.” Peter smiles tiredly and leans his head against Tony’s shoulder; he stares blankly at the fireplace until his eyelids begin to droop.
“Oh, no. I can’t sleep here tonight; my back is too bad for that.” Tony roughly rubs Peter’s shoulder before shifting to get up.
Peter grunts and pouts, slouching into the couch.
“You can’t, either. Morgan won’t let you sleep if you’re down here.”
“True…” Peter rises with him.
“Hey, if this sleepless stuff persists, I’ll get some of the stuff we gave Steve when he was fighting insomnia after-….some stuff happened.”
“Yeah, okay. Thank you.”
“No problem at all, bud.”
They climb the stairs in silence, pad down the hall and turn to face each other when they reach their respective doors.
“Night, Pete.” Tony whispers, hand on his doorknob.
“Night, Tony.” Peter lingers for just a moment as Tony goes into his room.
The man turns to close his door but stops when he catches Peter still waiting. His brows crease, and he moves to come back out, but Peter shakes his head and looks at the floor shyly, before waving for Tony to go. Tony considers Peter for a moment, squinting at the kid before he sighs silently and nods, closing the door all the way.
Peter sighs and goes into his own room, closing the door silently behind him before he crawls into bed and falls into a dead sleep until that afternoon.
(Tony only slightly regrets promising to entertain Morgan on 4 hours of sleep.)

As a football enthusiast I have been fascinated with the concept of the sure bet prediction where there is an assumption that out there in the sports betting universe there is an algorithm, formula, methodology or way to guarantee a win on a sports bet especially in football or what is called soccer in America.
So the question I welcome you to analyse with me is whether there is a way to come up with a sure bet or a guaranteed win when it comes to sports betting in relation to football.
Firstly lets define what we mean by a sure bet, what does the word sure mean? according to dictionary.com there are multiple definitions for sure but the two that apply to this conversation are “confident, as of something expected:sure of success. ” and assured or certain beyond question:a sure victory. ” https://www.dictionary.com/browse/sure
What of bet? This is defined as a wager or a risk taken on an uncertain outcome or event.
Now that we have the definitions is there a possibility of wagering on a football sports event with an assurance of success? The answer to this is maybe and I will explain why
I will tackle this as with regards to wagers or bets placed on possible outcomes of football matches. There is definitely no certainty of a certain outcome when it comes to football due to such factors as injuries, red cards, player state of mind if affected by personal challenges and so on but there are definitely ways to increase your probability of correctly predicting the outcome of a football match.
The general masses believe that a sure bet is an impossibility or an extremely difficult aspect to come up with and I agree to extent academically but I disagree from experience.Kindly dont get me wrong am not suggesting that you can have a 100% success rate in sports betting but what am saying is that you can achieve a 90% success rate in sports betting and be profitable while at it.
HOW DO I COME UP WITH A SURE BET PREDICTION?
STEP 1:This is not a get quick rich skim
Like everything in life you will not get rich over night through sports betting. In order to have a positive yield while betting on football matches you need to invest a lot of time and energy to understand the main dynamics that provide an indication of the possible outcome of a matches.
This means you need to source for reliable sources of football statistics or historical data, invest time in scouring the internet for news related to the matches you are looking at,test and retest different methodologies until you find one that provides an acceptable success rate which is above 55%.
STEP 2:How to create a successful sure bet prediction methodology
Book makers provide 100+ markets for a single match and the most crucial aspect of sports betting is identifying three or four markets that you are comfortable with and that you can access enough data to aid you identify matches whose possible outcomes will fit into your preferred markets.Through my own experience what works for me is any market that has only two possible outcomes meaning probability wise i have a 50% chance of success. An example of this is Over 1.5 goals,Draw No Bet,double chance,BTTS. These markets are favourable as compared to such riskier markets as correct score and halftime/fulltime
STEP 3:Limit your greed, have a cap for your odds
I prefer multibets as compared to single bets for they give me acceptable odds but I limit my total odds to 10 odds or less and the reason for this is that with higher odds you are forced to take higher risks or consider more games which is risky as well.
What most forget is that you should look at odds in relevance to margins/profit so for example an odd of 1.25 provides a 25% margin/profit so hypothetically if you can manage to come up with a methodology that has a 80% success rate on 1.5 odds it means for every amount you spend you stand a chance at a 50% profit which is quite insane if you consider that the best performing hedge funds in the world have returns lower than 50% per year. If you place bets on a daily basis and you have an 80% success rate meaning you win 5/7 days it means you will be extremely profitable with a weekly margin/profit of 14% and with higher odds you end up making a larger margin as illustrated below:
DAY OF THE WEEK ODDS STAKE OUTCOME WINS MARGIN MONDAY 1.5 KES 100.00 WIN KES 150.00 TUESDAY 1.5 KES 100.00 WIN KES 150.00 WEDNESDAY 1.5 KES 100.00 WIN KES 150.00 THURSDAY 1.5 KES 100.00 LOSS -KES 100.00 FRIDAY 1.5 KES 100.00 WIN KES 150.00 SATURDAY 1.5 KES 100.00 WIN KES 150.00 SUNDAY 1.5 KES 100.00 WIN KES 150.00 KES 700.00 KES 800.00 1.142857 DAY OF THE WEEK ODDS STAKE OUTCOME WINS MARGIN MONDAY 2.5 KES 100.00 WIN KES 250.00 TUESDAY 2.5 KES 100.00 WIN KES 250.00 WEDNESDAY 2.5 KES 100.00 LOSS -KES 100.00 THURSDAY 2.5 KES 100.00 LOSS -KES 100.00 FRIDAY 2.5 KES 100.00 WIN KES 250.00 SATURDAY 2.5 KES 100.00 WIN KES 250.00 SUNDAY 2.5 KES 100.00 WIN KES 250.00 KES 700.00 KES 1,050.00 1.5 DAY OF THE WEEK ODDS STAKE OUTCOME WINS MARGIN MONDAY 3.5 KES 100.00 WIN KES 350.00 TUESDAY 3.5 KES 100.00 WIN KES 350.00 WEDNESDAY 3.5 KES 100.00 LOSS -KES 100.00 THURSDAY 3.5 KES 100.00 LOSS -KES 100.00 FRIDAY 3.5 KES 100.00 LOSS -KES 100.00 SATURDAY 3.5 KES 100.00 WIN KES 350.00 SUNDAY 3.5 KES 100.00 WIN KES 350.00 KES 700.00 KES 1,100.00 1.571429
STEP 4:Everything in life requires insurance
To ensure a higher rate of success I always recommend you create multibets that are hedged and am not talking about arbitrage. I personally research two possible markets for the same game that offer adequate odds so that when I create a multibet I am able to hedge without loosing out on odds. However the hedging should not be in the same market e.g dont hedge over 1.5 goals with under 1.5 goals, you can hedge over 1.5 goals with something like BTTS such that you are able to take advantage of such scores as 1:1 2:0 2:1 which are common scores in soccer or you can hedge it with a double chance such as Draw No Bet which caters for a 0:0 or 1:0 score and still allows your multibet to continue running

Harrison Badr shines in post-season regardless of preliminary doubts Mercury Information
Harrison Bader’s commerce with the Yankees was met with skepticism. Why did the Yankees commerce a extremely efficient and dependable Jordan Montgomery participant for an injured participant? Bader made his presence identified this week within the ALDS in opposition to the Cleveland Guardians with two house runs, together with Saturday evening in Recreation 3 that gave the Yankees a 5-3 lead. We all know what occurred subsequent: The Guardians went out within the ninth inning with former Mets shortstop Amed Rosario scoring the win. The Yankees at the moment are in gear, and so they face a must-win match 4 at Progressive Subject on Sunday. Badr’s 2v4 efficiency wasn’t the principle story, nevertheless it was nonetheless a vibrant spot earlier than the ending that director Aaron Boone known as “guts ache.” Operating at house is extra necessary than ever within the post-season and there’s proof to help the truth that groups which have had essentially the most success at house normally have extra success within the post-season and the Yankees have had two of the most important groups in Recreation 3, considered one of them From Badr and the Monster, he ran 449 toes house from Aaron Choose, choosing up his 0-for-8 streak. “Then Judy hit Homer, it calms us down a bit of bit and injects some life into us,” Boone stated. “I felt like we performed a extremely good recreation from that second on.” Cleveland’s comeback was considerably uncommon in that the gathering consisted completely of singles. The Yankees most likely made the correct play in turning into third baseman Jose Ramirez however he put the ball in the correct spot the place they did not need it to go, and carried the bases with one other. Typically the correct performs fail on the flawed time. So, the important thing to the Yankees in Recreation 4 is to play to their strengths, which is the lengthy ball. They hit greater than every other crew within the common season with 254, 62 of which got here from a decide. Badr wasn’t anticipated to contribute a lot when it got here to energy, however he proved his expertise with well timed bombings this week. The Bronxville native was drawn to serving to protection greater than attacking, with basic supervisor Brian Cashman, on the time, saying he was taking a look at Bader as an out of doors helper within the postseason. Aaron Hicks struggled on the board and had some main defensive errors in midfield as properly, however Bader was nonetheless in bother on the commerce deadline, coping with plantar fasciitis. He performed solely 14 common season video games in striped streaks and scored simply 0.217 with none house runs. Badr has by no means been a success at house, together with his profession totaling 16 instances final season. Nevertheless, the Yankee Stadium in Recreation 2 performed out to buddies, household and the mogul of the Cleveland Bullpen’s 19-game playoff streak with no objectives together with his blast from left-handed Sam Hentges. Cashman may be going through some scrutiny for now, however Bader made it appear good for some time. It was a short-lived feeling because the guards surprised the Yankees, but when this crew can push this streak to 5 video games, they’ll want all the assistance Homer can get. “It stings now, and it is robust,” Boone stated. “You understand, you are annoyed since you’re so near the tip there, however we have now to show the web page. It should not be. We’ve got to get out right here. We’ve got Gerrit going tomorrow. We anticipate to get out right here and win.” () Originally published at San Jose News HQ

Dr. Drew’s Swish Issue 5, Volume 1
Welcome to the fifth issue of volume one of Swish, a weekly periodical with recaps and photos of Santa Monica YMCA youth basketball games, and other pertinent info such as standings, schedules, announcements, and updates from the program.
This season, we are keeping limited statistics for the games. Our most important concern is the score, and we do our best to keep track of who scored a field goal(a basket), who has foul shots and made a free throw, and who committed the foul.
Since we are not posting box scores this season, now is your opportunity to give it a try, or at least keep track of your child’s stats.
Here are some statistics for youth basketball that I have kept in the past:
FG-Field Goal: Essentially a basket or bucket made during the game when the clock is running. It can be a three-pointer or a two-pointer, but not a free throw.
3S-3 point shots: When a player attempts a three-point shot, this stat will say 0 if no attempts were made, but if at least one attempt, then the first number is how many 3 point shots made, and the second number is attempts. For example, if a player made 2 out of 4 three-point shots, then this stat would be 2-4.
FT-free throws: If a player gets fouled in the act of shooting, that player will receive two free throws if shooting a 2 pointer, three free throws for being fouled while shooting a 3 pointer. If the player makes the basket and is fouled when shooting, then the basket counts, and the player receives one free throw, or as known in basketball lingo “And 1”. This stat will say 0 if no attempts were made, but if at least one attempt, then first number is how many free throws made, and second number is attempts. For example, if a player made 1 out of 2 free throws, then this stat would be 1-2.
It should be noted that free throws are shot at halftime and at the end of regulation, thus to allow for more live action playing time for the kids, since we use a running clock during the games.
R-rebounds: every missed shot has a rebound, even if the ball doesn’t hit the rim, or the ball hits the basket and goes out of bounds. If no defensive player caught or grabbed the rebound, and the ball went out of bounds after the shot, then the defensive player closest to the ball when it went out of bounds, will receive credit for the rebound. If the shot is short and doesn’t hit the basket, then whoever caught the ball, gets the rebound. If two opponents both grab the rebound simultaneously and the referee calls a jump ball, then whichever team is awarded the jump ball, then that player gets credit for the rebound.
A-assists: if a player passes the ball to a teammate, and that teammate catches and shoots the ball, and makes a field goal, then the player who made the pass receives an assist. Please keep in mind that in youth basketball, a player only gets credit for the assist, if the teammate receiving the pass does not put the ball on the floor before making the shot.
S or ST-steals: if a defensive player is able to take the ball away from the offensive player and gain possession, that player gets credit for a steal. A steal can also be an intercepted pass by the defensive player. If two opponents both have their hands on the ball, and a jump ball is called and awarded to the defensive team, the defensive player gets credit for a steal.
B-blocks: if a defensive player is able to put a hand or arm on the ball of an attempted shot, and thus not allowing it to be a made basket, then that player gets credit for a block
PF or F-personal fouls or fouls: this stat is for when the referee calls a player for a foul. If a player receives 5 fouls in a game, then he has fouled out or is disqualified, and can not return to live action in the game, but can shoot post-game free throws if awarded during the course of the match.
PTS-points: this is the total number of points that a player scored when you add the sum of all 3 point field goals, 2 point field goals, and free throws.
Here’s a box score, of my Rookie team from last spring, that was done by former YMCA youth basketball director Pete Arbogast, who is the expert on keeping youth basketball stats:
Best thing to do, if you want to keep track of your child’s stats, is to have a pen and scratch paper, and simply write down the initial as it happens on the scratch paper, then add it all up later. Use your own system if you wish. Your child will appreciate it, and probably will correct your interpretation.
Keeping stats is something that you can share with your child, and even try out when watching games on television. Kids learn valuable lessons in math and analytics by keeping stats. My oldest son is a graduate in statistics and business from Cal-Berkeley, and works as an analyst for healthcare providers, and where did he get that love of stats from? The answer is from when he played YMCA youth basketball and watched the Lakers in the days of Kobe and Shaq, and kept track of all their stats. Remember, enjoy the game!
Note to the parents: please make sure to arrive early to your child’s game. I was one of the referees for all the Rookie games last Saturday, and some of the teams almost had to forfeit because they didn’t have enough players only minutes before the start of their game. Don’t give your coach a heart attack, get there early, in order to warm up before the game, and also to allow your coach to set his lineup of players.
Hawks vs Swans: The game started off scoreless in the 1st quarter with tough defense by both sides and ended 2-2 at the half. The 2nd half, however, went the way of the Hawks. Overall for the Swans, Jonathan Watson played a very active game with 6 steals, a few rebounds, a basket, and a foul shot for 3 of the teams total 5 points. Jaxton Moore had a few rebounds, a steal, and a basket. Brandon Israels had 3 steals, 2 rebounds, and a blocked shot. Tristan Hayes had a few steals and 7 rebounds. Oguz Aghaya and Lara Masood both chipped in with Rebounds. Max Enenstein had a rebound and the assist to Jaxton…Max also was playing great defense often effectively guarding guys much larger than himself. In the end, the Hawks standout Amire Enayati was smothering and ended up being too much for the Swans totaling 9 steals and 8 points for his team. Kingston Andes was also very active with several rebounds, steals, and chipped in with a basket in the 3rd quarter. Final score 10-5 for the Hawks win…the Swans hope to get a win next week to turn the tide. Submitted by Coach Holden Hayes

CROWS EDGE TIGERS — October 27th. In what may turn out to be one of the closest regular-season contests of the season, the Crows came out on top by only 1 basket! The final score was 14-12, and the Tigers had several incredible, driven players who impressed everyone watching the game. In the end, the Crows benefited from the creativity of Dylan Kravitz (2 points, 2 steals, 7 rebounds), the coordinated defense of Richard Haro and Benjamin Saunders (1 rebound each), plus Player of the Game, Veronica Machala with 8 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist and 4 steals–MVP chants from the Crows’ section continue to ka-kaw louder and louder for their starting center. What a game! Submitted by Coach Pete Harris

Cats vs. Bulldogs – Cats fans lined the bench at the Santa Monica YMCA on Saturday where the resilient and gritty 5 team members played the entire game, no subs, against the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs topped the Cats, 12-7. Four of the Cats 5 players scored, starting with Elle Guggenheim (#0) who buried a jump shot from an assist from point guard Tara Gohill (#3). Alden Wong (#2) was fouled while in the key and ultimately sank 2 free-throw shots during half time. After the half, towards the bottom of the 3rd quarter, Rowan Woodruff (#21) broke away from his defender, landing a 4-footer. To close out the game, Gohill converted 1 of 2 free-throws. The tremendous defense by Sienna Shickler (#8) helped ensure the end-game spread wasn’t larger. The Cats team will be out in full-force this Sunday against the Tigers. We’re looking forward to seeing you there. Submitted by Brian Wong

Hawks versus Swans – The Hawks matched up against the Swans for the first time since the opening scrimmage of the Fall Season. Looking to build upon the lessons learned in last weekend’s games; the Hawks focused on rebounding and defense until the shots started to fall. Amir Enayati earned Player of the Game honors with 8 points, 9 steals, and 5 rebounds. Kingston Andes brought another solid performance adding 2 points, 6 steals, and 8 rebounds. Juney Jones brought her defensive talents to the match and picked up another steal to add to her season total. David Casparian collected 2 rebounds and a steal to help his team. Diego Gonzalez pitched in as well with 1 rebound. Devon Shao and Regan Shao also played well for the Hawks to help secure the team’s first victory of the season. Submitted by Coach Charles Ellinwood

Our Bulldogs were hoping to end the first part of the season with a perfect 5-0 record, but the Cats were a tough challenge. Fortunately, we had great balance in our scoring as Bella Kariger hit 2 buckets and Noah Levy, Vitalina Moncher, Brendan Still, and Conor Duncan each hit a bucket to lead us to a 12-7 win. As usual, we stressed defense and the feisty Bulldogs got plenty of steals and rebounds. We have been giving up only 2-3 baskets per game and if that continues, we will be tough to beat. All 10 Bulldogs have been improving weekly on offense and defense, so I feel good about our next 4 games. Submitted by Coach Rick Moncher
No submissions of game summaries or photos were received.
I think it’s safe to say that the Eagles finally found their wings this weekend facing off against the valiant Falcons. With solid ball movement, unselfish play and good communication on defense, the Eagles embraced the concept of “team basketball” and put on quite a show. The Falcons played hard and fought to the end, but the Eagles’ “pass first” offense and ability to finish at the rim would have been tough for anyone. Almost every bucket came off of an assist and most possessions saw multiple passes prior to a shot. Travis Waters and Aayan Lahkani passed the rock exceptionally well, while Darien Jones and Atobek Nasimov were happy to get open and play the role of “catch and shoot”. Daara Shafipour and Oliver Ghiassi are also developing a nice synergy to consistently producing on offense. Nice win, Eagles. Submitted by Coach Michael Jones-Morales

The Bills fell to the Giants on Sunday. The Bills had trouble matching up defensively. When beaten off the dribble, they weren’t providing help defense or boxing out for rebounds. On offense, the Bills struggled to pass the ball to open players. Too many possessions ended with bad shots or turnovers. Only one player on the Bills had two field goals: Weston Keslow, who finished with 5 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 assist. Priya Mevasse had a field goal and played strong defense, with 2 steals, 2 rebounds, and 1 blocked shot. Eddie Stein also played well, hitting a jumper and grabbing 4 boards. Hunter Esposito-Doi, Grey Broderick, and Emilia Wachtel each had one basket. The Bills were fouled 6 times, but shot just 3 of 12 from the line. The Bills need to put this one behind them and play more as a team next weekend. Submitted by Coach Jonathan Wray
Sunday, the Vikings put together perhaps their best all-around game thus far, exhibiting improved teamwork on both sides of the ball, en route to a 23-19 loss. They trailed early in both halves, but clawed back both times on the strength of their defensive focus and intensity, and their “share the ball” offensive mentality. The outcome was not decided until the final seconds, when the Vikings eventually had no answer for the Bears’ supreme outside shooting. Vikings player highlights: Kayra Sanar hustled hard on defense, flying against walls and into the stands after the ball. Rowan Booher played strong interior and perimeter defense, fighting for the ball in the paint and contesting the sweet-shooting Bears’ jump shots. Leo Mooney shouldered much of the ball-handling duties, expertly deciding when to go for his own shot and when to distribute. Max Hinton wowed the crowd by hitting all net on a deep jumper. With a much greater size and depth than our Packers, we were just hoping to stay somewhat competitive; especially after the Broncos won their previous game by 40 points. They then took the opening tip and hit a 3 a few seconds later to add to our anxiety. Fortunately, Timosha Moncher immediately answered with a 3 and that is how the first quarter played out – buckets and buckets by both sides leading to a high-octane 16-16 score at the end of the first. Bruno Picazo, Dom Kajota, and Timosha all hit 3’s in that first to keep us close, as those three combined for our 16 points. The Broncos have a lot of talent and are well-coached, so we changed our usual nonstop press strategy to avoid getting burned with good passing and we were still able to keep the score close throughout. When we took a lead into the half, our players were fired up and ready for battle. Although we played well in the third, the Broncos were hot and took a lead into the fourth. Our top players and their top players played the entire game, but after the third quarter break, we could see their top boys were tiring and looking frustrated that we were hanging with them, so we decided now was the time to full-court press. Timosha and Dom were relentless in pursuit and Sam Rubin played a fantastic game on both ends of the floor. We kept the pace fast and furious throughout the fourth, causing forced and unforced turnovers by the Broncos. Once we got the lead back, our leaders pressed even harder to keep it. We would outscore them 13-2 in the 4th to win 46-42. Timosha had a game high 17; hitting everything from 3’s to running floaters in the paint over the taller Broncos. Sam added 12 and played great while having the unenviable task of trying to contain Ben Dreifort. Dom hit for 8 and was running as hard in the 4th as in the 1st. Bruno had 9 huge points. Lukas Greblikas, Ben Farzam, and Joe Farzam played their best games of the year; helping out with key rebounds and steals and setting screens for our shooters. There was nothing in our first 3 games to lead me to think we would stay within 20 points of this team, so this was certainly the most stunning victory in my many years in the league. To say we played our best would be an understatement, as the entire team played near flawless basketball for the full 32 minutes. Submitted by Coach Rick Moncher
Just 24 hours after our stunning win over the Broncos, we would play the Dolphins – who lost by 40 points to those Broncos the week before. Just which Packer team would show up was the question – the flawless team that upset the Broncos or the team that showed plenty of flaws in previous games. It ended up somewhere in-between, as we didn’t shoot as well as the day before and we didn’t play anywhere near the quality of defense as the day before, but we did escape with a 53-45 victory. The game was a back-and-forth affair until the 4th. We knew Evan Daghighian was going to be pumping 3’s for them, but our defenders were too kind in giving him room to shoot. He would hit an incredible five consecutive 3’s over the first three quarters to keep them in the game. Sam Rubin had a monster game with 23 points and plenty of steals and rebounds. Dom Kajota and Timosha Moncher had their usual busy stats with points-steals-rebounds, but it was the added offense from Xavier Echiribel (4 points) and Lukas Greblikas (5 points) that made the difference. Submitted by Coach Rick Moncher
The Rams suffered their first defeat during an intense game last Sunday evening. After taking an early lead, the halftime score was a 1 or 2 point game at halftime. The second half was a defensive battle, with the Colts making more shots down the stretch than the Rams. After free throws, the final was 31-28. The Rams were lead by Griffin Pine with 17 points. Do everything Sebastian Ramirez had 2 points, 7 steals, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Shawn Sikder made a key shot down the stretch, while Guy Carter’s hustle aided in 5 very important rebounds. Each week, Swish has a profile of a coach, player, or someone in the program who inspires all of us involved in Santa Monica YMCA basketball.
This week’s profile is of Santa Monica YMCA player, Timosha Moncher who is not only a great basketball player, but also a championship judo athlete. I had the opportunity to ask him some questions, and I also requested that his father Rick, who is an accomplished basketball coach with the YMCA, ask him questions as well.
DocDrew: “What do you enjoy most about playing youth basketball in the Santa Monica YMCA league?” Timosha: “I love playing basketball – anywhere, anytime. I play a lot of sports, but basketball is my favorite. It is fun to play with and against my friends at the Y.”
DocDrew: “What is your most memorable moment throughout your YMCA basketball career?” Timosha: “We had a huge upset this weekend when we beat the Broncos and everyone on our team was so happy. That was pretty awesome, but my best moment was when I hit a game-winning 3-point buzzer-beater about 2 years ago. We had a time-out with 5 seconds left and my Dad (coach) made-up a play to get me the ball. Me and my friends always practice crazy buzzer-beaters at the Y, but you never think it will actually happen. I caught it, turned to shoot it, and it swished through. Here is some cell phone video of the shot from a parent of one of my teammates:”
https://m.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=SQC1f5X-N1Q&feature=youtu.be.
Coach Rick: “This is your 16th season in the league and you hold numerous records. Which do you value the most?” Timosha: “I always liked getting steals. When I started playing at the Y, I couldn’t shoot or dribble, but I was pretty fast and strong and I would always get steals and rebounds to help my team. Although I own the records for steals in a career and in one game (19), I would love to get another game-winning buzzer-beater. I was also the youngest ever in Minors and Majors (8), but playing against much bigger, better, and older players helped me improve faster.”
DocDrew: “Who is your favorite player and why?” Timosha: “It used to be Steph Curry because of all the great shots he could make, but now my favorite is the Greek Freak, Giannis Antetokounmpo. He can do everything on the court and is a really cool guy off the court.”
Coach Rick: “You are also known for your accomplishments in judo. What are some of your biggest victories? Timosha” “I have won 5 National Championships, 3 State championships, and the gold medal in the Junior Olympics in judo last year, but I still like basketball more.
I can remember Timosha shooting hoops at a young age on the playground of St. Monica’s when his sister Vitalina was a classmate of my son in TK, and as we were waiting for class to start, Timosha would be sinking buckets on the big hoop. I could tell right away, that he was something special, even at a young age. Timosha is a great role model for his teammates, and all those that play youth basketball at the YMCA. He shows that with determination, passion, and drive, you can achieve success and enjoy whatever you are doing. Thanks Timosha!

La Liga: Preview of matchday 34 games
SuperSport viewers on DStv and GOtv can look forward to Round 34 action from La Liga, with matches scheduled to run from Friday 29 April to Monday 2 May 2022.
DStv and GOtv is the only true home of football in Africa, offering a range and depth of action that no other rival can match – it’s literally ‘Unbeatable Football’! If you’re going to spend your money on something, it may as well be on the best football in the world.
SuperSport is also the only place to get English commentary on the legendary La Liga, where the top match for this round sees Athletic Bilbao welcome Atletico Madrid to San Mames Barria for a ‘red and white derby’.
European qualification looks beyond Athletic’s reach, but they will still be keen to put a spanner in the works for outgoing champions Atletico. The Basque club has put together a three-game unbeaten run against the capital city side, including a 2-1 win in the Spanish Super Cup in January 2022 – the teams’ most recent meeting.
“We will give Atletico respect... but not too much respect,” said Nico Williams, who scored the winning goal in the Super Cup. “We will try to win at home and claim three points. Atletico were champions for a reason, but we know we can defeat them.”
Real Madrid, meanwhile, will welcome Espanyol to Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and target another victory in their successful La Liga campaign – though goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has warned his team not to take anything for granted. “To win is very important,” Courtois explained. “We have lacked intensity at times and must make sure we correct this.”
Barcelona will welcome Mallorca to Camp Nou and look to continue the fine form they have shown under manager Xavi, who is urging his charges to keep pushing right until the end of the season. “We won and we enjoyed ourselves,” said the Blaugrana club legend. “The atmosphere was extraordinary. And we’ll keep fighting. We’re going to try. We’re going to try to win all the games.”
Another key clash sees Sevilla host Cadiz at Estadio Ram Sanchez Pizjuan for an Andalusian derby. Los Nervionenses are chasing a top-four finish and have been an excellent team under manager Julen Lopetegui, who recently dismissed links with the Manchester United managerial post for next season.
“The [speculation], I can't help it," Lopetegui said. "I am where I want to be. Continue on the Sevilla bench next season? I have no doubt."
No rival can compete with SuperSport’s coverage. Our viewers on DStv and GOtv enjoy an unrivalled selection of football from around the world!

Margret Saliske Seoul Day 26
Not Amtrak
Outdoor gyms
Sleeping accommodations
Returning from Busan I had an easy day. I rented a bike on the north side of the Han river, a sturdy red one with a big basket, and road around until I came upon a saxophone performance while the sun was setting. A lot going on outside in the evenings. I like that Seoul has outdoor exercise stations often under bridges where you can do on machines for free what you pay to do in health clubs in the U.S. Nobody steals or destroys anything in Korea. In New York we can’t even keep public bathrooms open because they will get trashed and the TP stolen.
On Saturday I tutored the foster kids again and was first given a student who just wanted to set fire to the table with the matches he had in his pocket but with some coaxing he focused on a story in his workbook about the British sending all their convicts to Australia in the 18th century. After break I was given a very docile boy who loved to read so we ditched the phonetics workbook which was too hard for me to comprehend and read Aesop’s Fables instead.
My much anticipated Temple Stay was Saturday and Sunday. The temple was sited up the side of a mountain and guarded by some great looking dogs that barked and howled when the monks beat the drums and gongs and every time the wind blew in the night. I knew this was not what I was expecting when introduced to my english speaking roommate she immediately asked if I had brought a cord adapter with me so she could watch Netflix while waiting for the temple tour. We were invited to ‘take video’ of the monks beating the drums and to make a wish for something we wanted when taking turns ringing the bells. The evening main event was our 108 prostrations in the temple. For this the english speakers wore translation head sets so we could watch an accompanying film of the temple grounds while a dreamy woman's voice coaxed us in our prostrations with a soaring musical score.” I prostrate in repentance to all those I have harmed through follies”, “ I prostrate myself in repentance for having thought that only what I smelled was correct” or my favorite of the 108 “I prostrate for coming to realize that everything is like a dream” They gave us coloring books of the 108 prostrations at the end of our stay. The setting was beautiful and the vegan meals very good. Cold Kimchi at 6:30AM I actually enjoyed. I slept at 9 and woke at 4:30 for chanting as if that was just what my body wanted to do. Having spent almost all of the past 3 weeks alone and very focused it was odd to be feeling obligated to make conversation and take photos at an event I was hoping would take me away from chattering minds.
After tea with a monk who fielded questions like why does he have to shave his head I went a good distance to find the Yangcheonhyanggyo Confucian School figuring I was coming full circle on the history of religion in Korea. I was very disappointed to find it closed for extensive restoration. So I went to the movies and saw Final Portrait which was Geoffrey Rush playing a neurotic Giacometti in 1964 Paris.

Man Utd stumble again as Chelsea top Premier League
LONDON
Manchester United were held at home by Everton on Saturday after Cristiano Ronaldo was dropped to the subs bench as Chelsea scored two late goals against Southampton to top the Premier League table.
Elsewhere, Brighton drew 0-0 with Arsenal to end the Gunners' recent winning streak while Leeds earned their first league win of the season.
United's 1-1 draw at Old Trafford continues an unimpressive run of home results including a League Cup defeat by West Ham and last week's shock Premier League loss at the hands of Aston Villa.
Ronaldo has scored five times in six games in all competitions since rejoining the club in late August but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said he did not regret resting the 36-year-old -- who scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner against Villarreal in midweek.
"You make decisions throughout the season, you've got to manage the players' workload," said the Norwegian manager. "The decision was, for me, the correct one today.
"We have started better than last season, but it is still not what we wanted."
Everton created plenty of chances in the opening period but fell behind shortly before half-time when surprise pick Anthony Martial curled home his first Premier League goal since February from a Bruno Fernandes pass.
Solskjaer called on Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho 12 minutes after half-time as he looked to put the game beyond Rafael Benitez's men but Everton ruthlessly exposed United's frailty on the counter-attack.
Demarai Gray won the ball back on the left and freed Abdoulaye Doucoure into acres of space in midfield. Doucoure played in Andros Townsend to fire home his fifth goal in nine appearances.
Townsend performed a Ronaldo-style "Siuuu" goal celebration and said it was done in tribute to the Portuguese superstar, whom he said was his "idol".
Everton thought they had won it late on but Yerry Mina's close-range finish from a Tom Davies pass was ruled out for offside following a VAR review.
Chelsea ended a miserable week on a high, with Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell striking late in a 3-1 win against Southampton, who are still without a league victory this season.
The three points lifted the Stamford Bridge club to the top of the Premier League on 16 points, two clear of Liverpool, Manchester United, Everton and Brighton.
Thomas Tuchel's side, tipped by many to win the Premier League in the early weeks of the season, were well beaten by Manchester City last week and lost to Juventus in the Champions League in midweek.
But they returned to winning ways in London on Saturday, helped by a second-half red card for Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse.
Trevoh Chalobah nodded Chelsea into an early lead but Ward-Prowse levelled from the penalty spot just after the hour mark before he was sent off in the 77th minute for a dangerous tackle on Jorginho after a VAR check.
Werner provided the decisive moment, sliding in from Cesar Azpilicueta's cross before Chilwell volleyed in from close range on 89 minutes to secure the victory.
"After two defeats we had to be careful that we didn't start being too sad or too worried because there was a chance to be on 16 points," Tuchel told the BBC.
"It was important to have a better performance than the last two games, that we sharpened our mindset so that we are not afraid to lose. It was nice to play the way we did and get a deserved win."
Mikel Arteta's Arsenal were bottom of the Premier League table after three matches before three consecutive wins lifted them to the comfort of mid-table.
But they found it tough to break down high-flying Brighton in a soggy evening contest on England's south coast and Arteta admitted his team did not deserve to win.
Earlier, Leeds beat Watford 1-0 thanks to a first-half strike by Diego Llorente while Hwang Hee-chan struck twice as Wolves beat struggling Newcastle 2-1.
Norwich stopped the rot against Burnley after six straight league defeats but they remain rock bottom of the Premier League table with just a single point from seven games after a 0-0 draw.
Liverpool host Manchester City in the pick of Sunday's Premier League matches.
