FOTD #066 : cornflower bolete! (gyroporus cyanescens)
the cornflower bolete (AKA bluing bolete) is a species of bolete fungus in the family gyroporaceae. it is found in asia, australia, europe, & eastern north america. most often, this bolete grows on the ground in coniferous & mixed forests :-)
the big question : can i bite it??yes !! it is choice. there are many online tutorials on how to cook it, too.

g. cyanescens description :
"the yellowish to buff cap surface is fibrous & roughened, & reaches up to 12 cm (4.7 in) in diameter. the thick stem, roughly the same colour as the cap or lighter, is hollowed out into chambers. all parts of the mushroom turn an intense blue colour within a few moments of bruising or cutting."

Cornflower Bolete / Gyroporus cyanescens
Gyroporus cyanescens, commonly known as the bluing bolete or the cornflower bolete, is a species of bolete fungus in the family gyroporaceae. When sliced in half, a compound called gyrocyanin reacts to the air, causing the mushroom to turn blue during oxidation. Found in Asia, Australia, Europe, and eastern North America, it grows in primarily mixed or coniferous forests. It is considered a good edible.

Day 4 of funguary
The cornflower bolete! (This was actually one of the hard ones)
[major inspiration: rack n ruin from cyberverse]
Tumblr media
This shroom really reminded me of the time I went mushroom picking with my grandma and my time in Carpathians. A bolete was THE mushroom, the forest gold, the most desirable thing you can find there. At least to me XD (they do cost like gold, not gonna lie) (and mushroom soup made from them is truly delicious).
It awokened so much good memories in me that i decided to make them Ukrainian-themed. From left to right: Motrya and Zoryana. I really wanted to show off the magical blue interior of a cornflower bolete.
Motrya is mostly lead by intuition and emotion, while her sister is more calm and logical. They both enjoy reading very much, and study plant biology. Motrya is always the one to joke around if something goes wrong, while ruined plans frustrate Zoryana to the core.
Despite the differences and many daily disagreements, they're great to be around. Both are quite adventurous, so it's very rare for them to be at home for long periods of time. They're constantly at some forest base, doing science or simply goofing around.
[note: I'm not trying to mimic traditional huzul clothing here in any way, I just took a motif and adapted it to fit the character pallette]
[and, feefal, if by any chance you're reading this, thank you so much for reblogging my post. I never even thought that someone as good at art as you are can like my drawings. The things you draw and your philosophy helped me accept myself a little more, feel a little more comfortable in my skin. For that, thank you. Please keep drawing, it really makes the world a better place]

My 4th (+ 5th, 6th & 7th) OC for Funguary! (Cornflower Bolete + Hairy Mycena + Podosepula Pusio + Pixie’s Parasol)
Once the heiress to a bandit empire, Cornelle has since distanced herself from her selfish past to instead pursue fungiculture. When she learned of Laicha’s quest to travel the land and smite evil, she left her farm in good hands before joining the young healer’s cause. Her weapon of choice - a nutrient-rich mahogany log - can be imbued with the magical properties of her tiny home-grown friends, the Goons.

Instead of daily pieces, I decided to spend the first week of @feefal's funguary making one piece incorporating as many mushrooms as I could! How many of this week's prompts can you spot? 👀 (spoilers in the alt text & answers under the cut!)
This was such a labour of love and I'm so happy with it 😭
reblogs help new people to see my art and are always appreciated! ^-^
mushroom list:
shield/enranche - elegant blue webcap
lance - pixie cup lichen
horse's mane and tail, knight's helmet feather - hairy mycena
horse's caparison - magpie inkcap
armour (both knight and horse) - podoserpula pusio
horse - cornflower bolete

the mushrooms here are Cornflower Bolete (top left), Liver Milkcap (top right), Indigo Milkcap (bottom left), and Yellow Fly Agaric (bottom right)
