Mothers Day
Spencer Reid x Reader
As the newest member of the team, everyone is shocked by your boldness.
Everyone knew not to trespass when Las Vegas or Mental illness was a factor in the case. Everyone but you, apparently. By chance, the team's last case to Vegas was two months before your hire. Now, you were making very dangerous strides around a very delicate subject. The Unsub was suspected to be a man on a psychotic break and had begun devolving before the team had even been called in. Ever the overtly ambitious profiler you wanted to follow Spencer Reid for his ultra-secret contact.
"He prefers to go alone." My eyes met the dark brown hand on my bicep
"We really shouldn't be going places alone. You know the FBI minted the buddy system?" I shook him off
"I know, baby girl, but this is delicate. You just gotta leave it alone."
"Derek, you, of all people, should be aware of my incessant control problems."
"I have to agree with Morgan. This is something you need to let be."
"But you know I can't. Doctor Reid!" I darted off after him. He was tense, like the way people get when they hear a tornado siren and have to put themselves in their basement or put a mattress over their bathtub. He was preparing for disaster. "I truly believe it would be beneficial if I were to go with you."
"Would it be benefitting the case or your psyche?" He prods
"Well, both and neither." I readjust my little rectangular glasses, "As you know, I'm extraneously protective, to a fault. Also, I am working on my doctorate in psychology and I'm writing a dissertation on noncommutative disorder clusters. And I'm comfortable around disorders. Actually, I find it strange that when we talk about OCD, we call it a 'disorder' when people just like things organized in a particular manner." I snort to punctuate my rambling, but he only grits his jaw. "Aw man, that joke usually kills in my schizoid heredity focus group." He sighs as he tugs his satchel on.
"You need to stay quiet and low profile." He orders, and I know my dorky smile splits my face. He leads me to a big black SUV, where I take the driver's seat. He gives me directions, leading me from the way through town street and down some scary back roads. Eventually, we pass a sign that reads Bennington Sanitarium. He tells me to turn left, and we park in the back of the parking lot. He tells me to leave my gun in the car, and I follow him with my head down.
"So, who's this ultra-secret contact you have?" His stress seemed to triple, "Some fancy professor from Caltech?" He's being intentionally nebulous, I'm aware but there's some fun in playing nosy-cop.
"No, it's not someone who worked at Caltech."
"Oh, but a professor? Where'd they work, Burkley? Or maybe some school in Vegas. Let's see, there are not that many high-profile universities in Vegas."
"No, she hasn't worked in years." His voice sharpens in frustration, so I back down, readjusting my glasses, and licking the corner of my lips. We enter and a receptionist recognizes Spencer immediately with a big smile.
"Dr. Reid how lovely to see you. Have you come to visit your mother? She'll be ecstatic. It's been far too long." Oh, like mother like son. She must be a psychiatrist. I smile softly at the notion. It will be so interesting to see who and where Spencer came from.
"Thank you, Sheryl, how has she been."
"Well, she has her day, but mostly, she just reads. You know the book club started a new series." Sherly playfully brushes his arm and giggles.
"That's good."
"She should have just gotten out of therapy." Sheryl smiles and rakes her eyes over the young doctor. Finally, she makes eye contact with me.
"Oh well, you're new," she cheers in a vaguely Midwestern accent. You'll need a visitor's pass, hon." She gets one from a drawer and hands it to me. "So, do you work at the FBI, too, or are you coming to meet the in-laws?"
"I'm an agent," I laugh. If I were lucky enough to snag him, that would be an HR nightmare." Playfully, I pat his chest. He guffaws dryly as I slide the plastic lanyard around my neck.
Spencer leads me through the building, mostly there are elderly people playing chess or using oil pastels as nurses and orderlies orbit them. He leads me through a large living room past an Asian woman knitting. We find a woman with blonde hair biting her nails on the couch as she ponders something.
"Hi, Mom," He warbles. There's an extra beat between his greeting and her response. It's like she snaps out of a trance when she sees her son.
"Spencer, honey, what are you doing here?"
"Me and my frie-"
"Oh my goodness, thank whatever deities you deny the existence of; you're finally giving me some grandchildren."
"No, Mom, this is my coworker Agent (L/n). She and I just have some questions for you regarding our case."
"Well, at least sit down." She pats the space next to her, and Spencer obeys, "You too, young lady."
"Yes, ma'am." I take the only spot right next to him, and Spencer begins rattling off questions while his mom sits there with her hand under her nose. She sits and observes Spencer like no one at the BAU does. When he finishes contextualizing the case with her she stews on every word like his voice is her favorite song.
"So our first question for you is, uh (Y/n), you might be better at asking." He makes the wringing motion of cracking his knuckles, but no sound comes out.
"Um, mostly, the bureau is interested in the capabilities of delusion to overlap reality. When you are having an episode, do you recognize the difference between your actions and your perceptions?" I retrieve a legal pad and a fountain pen and click it theatrically. Diana keeps her hand over her mouth and inhales longingly through her nose. She points at me but doesn't look at me.
"You're a very smart young woman," She locks her eyes on me, "I'll answer your questions if you answer mine."
"Of course, wagers are the drug of choice in Vegas, well that and alcohol and mostly any other drug you can think of." I correct myself
"God, you're so much like him." She looks to her son."Why aren't you dating my Spencer?"
"Uh," is all that dumbly spills from my mouth.
"You two seem perfectly suitable for each other. Is it because he's so skinny?"
"No,"
"Well, he's incredibly handsome and talented; even a pigeon could see he's intelligent beyond a lexicon." She rambles
"Mom, I think that's enough."
"Spencer, you haven't visited me in over a year, and how do you believe that's any way to speak to your mother." She reprimands me. Had the information not shocked me, I would have giggled.
"Spencer, over a year?!" I swat his arm, "You've had time off. Why wouldn't you come to visit?"
"Oh well, I've still gotten my daily letters," she pouts. But it's been too long, and I'm getting old." She begins to bat her eyelashes, and she holds onto his arm.
"I'm trying, Mom," he whined
"To visit or to get me some grandkids?" she sasses
"Mom," He groaned, and I couldn't help the giggle that escaped my lips.
"What about you, young lady? Do you have any kids??"
"No, ma'am."
"Why not?" I could see where Spencer gets his tunnel thinking.
"My career has made it difficult to go out on dates and fall in love," I admitted it was almost like Diana could extract the truth from me
"Well, then, date my Spencer."
"Mom!" he protested
"Shh! It's a win-win: I get grandbabies, you get dates, and neither of your careers gets in the way." I meant to retaliate, but her infallible logic knocked all the fire out of me.
"Let's finish up this interview and solve this case then we can circle back." I mitigated
Two days later, the case was solved, and we were riding the jet back to Virginia. Everyone had filed off the plane but Spencer and I.
"So, do you have any plans tonight?" It threw me further off guard than Diana.
"I was just gonna turn on Real Housewives reruns and cuddle cannoli." It was how I spent most nights.
"Would you object to a date?"
"Tonight?"
"We could watch the Real Housewives and hang out with your cat??"
"You want to do that?"
"It sounds much better than sweating in an overpriced Italian restaurant." He laughs and rings his knuckles
"it does, I think I have NBC, we could watch Star Trek after." I offer as we walk from the landing strip to the BAU. We made a sojourn at his home so he could shower and put on comfortable clothes. Two years later it would be cannoli to ring bear your wedding. Spencer would have to credit his mother who walked you both down the aisle simultaneously for your relationship and the whole team would have to agree.

Changes chapter 11

Series masterlist
The sun had yet to set, but David was awake already. He hadn't slept well, troubled by the events of the night before. As much as the end of the night had been good, the beginning had been horrible. There were many things that bothered him about it. First of all, how had they not realised that Julie's aversion to certain people had to do with their blood type? They all smelt the differences - A's were sweet, whereas B's were leaning towards savoury, and O's being good, but depending on your mood rather bland. Vanilla, if you must. They all had their preferences. So why hadn't hey made that connection? They had seen her hunt every night, and they had noticed her pickiness. He sighed as he landed on the ground, sitting down to put his boots on.
Then there was the fact that Max seemed to know more than he let on. This wasn't unusual. The man preferred to keep his knowledge mainly to himself, especially the small details. But in this case, however, where a young vampires life was - literally, as they found out - on the line, it was weird. Why would he keep vital information like a blood allergy to himself? David knew for certain that Max knew more about Julie's situation than he let on. That worried him as well. He could understand why Julie didn't want to know anything about her past, but for Max not to say anything about it? It wasn't like him. Max always told David the important things. Enough, so he and the boys were safe. Julie was part of that group now, whether she wanted to or not - or whether he accepted it or not. In the four days she spent with them, all of the boys came to the same conclusion. She was their little sister.
Besides his worries, especially about whether or not Max could actually provide Julie's wellbeing if he kept secrets, he also had a meeting with Max to look forward to. Max had let him go the night before, but now that he had 'cooled down', Max wanted him to visit as soon as possible to discuss a plan. David only hoped that his sire would finally decide to play the open card and put all details and all information upon the table. He doubted it, though.
David entered the main part of the cave, taking the bejewelled bottle out of the red metal cabinet. He popped the cap off, taking a long satisfying sip, before putting it back. The sun had set. It was time to go.
Julie woke up in her own bed, Thorn no longer laying next to her. She frowned slightly, wondering why he wasn't there. Thorn was a godsend. Thanks to his presence, she slept better, feeling protected. She had fewer nightmares when the dog was around, and she had to admit that him not being there when she woke up unsettled her.
Slowly, she sat up, rubbing her eyes before stretching. It was only 7.30 in the evening. She yawned, walking towards her window. She stood to the side, taking the middle part of the curtain and slowly but surely moving it aside. She looked on without breathing, hoping that there was no more sun - otherwise, she'd be trapped in this corner of her room until the sun would set. As the curtain moved further, an unnatural yellow light shone into her room. Julie smiled. If the streetlantern was on, it was dark out. She was about to open the other curtain when she stopped herself. Instead, she closed the other one as well.
She needed a shower, she thought quietly as she realised how greasy her hair felt. Walking towards her white wardrobe and opening the doors, she let out a disappointed sigh. She should have remembered. All her clothes and all the other things the boys had gifted her were in the cave. She sighed, hoping that her clothing wouldn't smell too bad before stepping into the bathroom. The room was functional. That was the best way to describe it. White tiles, on both the floor and the walls. A single sink, also white with a standard taphead. Above it, a large rectangular mirror. The shower was located within the bathtub, leaving her the option for a bath - even though she didn't prefer it. It felt too vulnerable.
As she undressed, she couldn't help but glance at the mirror, expecting to see her own body. Instead, she saw nothing except for some floating items of clothing. She sighed. How would she ever get used to a live without a reflection? She had never really been into makeup, but now she wouldn't even have the ability to try it - how could she, if she couldn't see what she was doing? Or what about creative hairstyles? Without a mirror, that was difficult to do. She shook her head as she turned to the shower, turning it on. She would get used to it all, probably. She had to, anyway. It was her life now.
Max was seated at the kitchen table. The medical files were laid out in front of him, the mess from the night before - both the bottles Julie had needed to recover and the dishes she'd made while baking - still there. He sighed as he saw the photographs of Julie. She looked so happy and careless in those pictures, taken when she was seventeen. She had been full of life and joy, a bright spark in her eyes. If Max compared that to how she was now, trying so hard to be strong and brave, but acting so timid, so careful not to anger or bother anyone. A heavy sigh escaped him. She had been seventeen when she ended up at COL's facility. What would the Company of Life want with a teenage girl? Why had no one looked for her? And how much harm had been brought to her in those years? Max didn't want to imagine it, but he had to know. He had to know who had done this so he could make sure they'd never do this to Julie - or any other people - again. He had to make sure Julie was safe and happy - and that she would heal. He would do everything in his power to bring the old Julie back, the one with that bright spark in her eyes.
He looked up as he heard the shower turn on, startled by the sudden sound. "Shit!" He jumped up, chair falling upon the ground as he ran upstairs, knocking on Julie's bedroom door. "Julie? Julie! Don't get in the shower, the water-"
It was too late, he heard a loud crash, a pained gasp. He quickly went to his own bathroom, taking a large towel and returning to Julie's bedroom door. He closed his eyes before calling out. "I have my eyes closed. I am just bringing you a towel. Once you're dried off, the water should stop hurting."
Slowly, he stepped into the room, reaching out the hand in which he held the towel. It took three blind steps before he felt ice-cold fingers grabbing his hand, desperately pulling the towel from it. He stepped away, stopping when he heard a knock on the floor. He didn't know how, but the knock sounded demanding.
"Streaming water can hurt vampires. I am deeply sorry that I forgot to mention this. It is no excuse, but you must understand that I am old. Showers are a relatively new thing, and I have never actually gotten around to using them. I am sorry. I-"
He didn't know what else to say. Julie didn't care about his apology either. She quickly dried herself off, wincing as she saw the thick red blisters all over her body. They itched and tingled. It hurt, quite a bit, and where her human brain would tell her to cool it under some cold water, she was now terrified of touching the tap.
Once dry, she quickly put the sweater and trousers from the day before on, knocking twice to gain Max' attention. He looked up. "Are you decent?"
Julie knocked again.
Max opened his eyes, turned around, and looked at her. He sighed, taking his glasses off as he rubbed his eyes. Her skin was bright red, and her eyes were filled to the brim with tears. He gave her a sincere apologetic smile, his regret shining through. "I should have dismounted the shower head," he said softly as he kneeled in front of Julie. "If there is anything I can do to make this right, please just tell me."
Julie shook her head quietly, trying as best as she could not to cry. Max nodded. He understood the pain she felt all too well, having had a run-in with a shower once about a decade ago. The blisters had hurt, and the only thing able to lessen the pain was blood. He reached out his hand to Julie, glad to see that despite her hurt, she still took it. When she stood, he told her to go down stairs and get herself some blood out of the fridge.
"I've removed all the bottles with blood you're allergic to. You should avoid an O negative."
Julie nodded, heading downstairs. Max stayed behind, breaking the shower head off with ease. There was no way that Julie would get hurt by running water again.
Julie slowly descended down the stairs, her legs hurting with every step she took. Once downstairs, Thorn came running towards her, jumping up and down - but stopping when she ignored him. With his ears down, he retreated to his dogbed. Julie shot him an apologetic look, hoping that he understood it wasn't personal. She opened the fridge, taking out an A positive after tripple checking the label. She drank, not even bothering to transfer the blood from inside the bloodbag into a glass. After the first gulp, she noticed that the itching became less. After the second, she began to feel less irritation. By the time she finished, all signs of blisters had vanished. She opened the trashcan, located left from her under the sink, to throw the empty bag away, noticing about a dozen filled bags with O negative. Max had thrown everything away for her.
"You were hurt. Again."
Julie jumped, slamming the fridge door close as David suddenly stood behind her. She looked at him with an annoyed expression - he had sneaked up on her quite a lot during her time with them - before sighing and nodding.
"What happened?"
Julie pointed to the tap, causing David to shudder. "Shit." He looked at Julie, noticing that she was no longer physically harmed, just shaken. "Are you feeling better?"
Julie shrugged. She had preferred not to get hurt in the early morning and to just get clean, but considering everything that happened, she figured she was okay. She'd use a bath cloth to get clean in the future or something similar. No way would she ever set foot in a shower again.
"Is Max still upstairs?"
But before she could respond, he was already gone, his boots stomping on every step he took. Julie looked at Thorn, who gave her an empty look. He also didn't know what to do. She motioned for the dog to follow her, sitting down on the couch with a book, Thorns head in her lap. Within seconds, she was engulfed in the pages, unaware of the argument taking place upstairs.
"You're earlier than expect-"
"Why was she hurt?" David demanded, looking at Max. Max was in Julie's bathroom still, cleaning up the broken pieces of the shower head he broke.
"With everything I had to explain to her I forgot -"
"You forgot? Why do you even have a shower in the first place?!"
"So people won't suspect any-"
David glared at him. "Every human that comes here ends up dead. Don't talk bullshit."
"If you think I am just letting this happen, you're wrong David."
"Am I? You abandon her, you forget to mention she has a severe fucking blood allergy and now she gets burned?"
"I found out about the blood allergy yesterday when I read some files I'd acquired." Max said, speaking more calmly than he felt. David noticed it too, begrudgingly trying to bottle up his annoyance towards his sire.
"What files?"
"Detailing what happened to her." Max sighed, sitting down on the edge of the bathtub. "She was taken when she was seventeen. Her change took over fifteen months. And during, they tortured her. You might think I just abandoned her, but I need these answers. She needs them. Her sire placed some pretty harmful demands upon her, and the only way to break them is by completing this ritual. I needed the information for that, for her."
David sighed, looking at Max. "You should stop thinking about what might be best for her from your perspective and instead start looking out for what's best for her from her own. She might not even want all these answers, all these memories laying around. Maybe she just needs a home and some safety so she can fucking come to terms with what happened."
Max shook his head. "If only it was that easy. Those sire demands block everything. Including some memories, as I found out. She won't be able to heal and to get all the help she needs until all the harm done by COL is undone."
David frowned at the abbreviation. He'd heard of them before, reading their company name in a newspaper article a couple of weeks back. "As in blood research COL? What do they have to do with vampires?"
Max shrugged. "Apparently enough to make them in a long and painful process."
David nodded. "My point still stands. If I find out she's hurt again, I will take her with me."
"I'm glad she has people looking out for her." Max said, looking at David. He stood up, motioning for the younger vampire to follow. He led him towards his office, handing him a piece of yellowed paper. It was the spell he had gotten from the Widow Johnson.
"Julie doesn't know what to choose," Max explained after David finished reading. "Maybe you and the boys can talk with her about it."
"Tough choice, regaining your voice or being in the command of another for eternity." David said, a hint of sarcasm in his voice.
"It is when the blood needed for the spell is the one you're allergic to."
David swallowed hard, looking at the paper and then at Max. "Shit."

Read on Ao3
Loading up the last of your belongings in a small, borrowed handcart, you begin the difficult ascent from your small shop in the lower town to Camelot’s citadel. The journey is prolonged somewhat by the need for regular stops to rest, but eventually you make it across the bridge and into the castle’s large courtyard.
You wheel the cart about halfway across the square when a young man with short, dark hair and a red neckerchief approaches.
“Are you (Y/N)?” He asks.
“Yes, that’s me,”
“I’m Merlin, King Arthur’s manservant,” He introduces himself with a bright smile. “He asked me to assist you with moving your belongings into your new chambers,”
“Oh, that was thoughtful of him,” You set the cart down and shake the ache from your arms. “We might have to do a few trips,”
Merlin peers into the cart. “I think we can make it in one,”
You raise your brows in disbelief.
“I’m really good at carrying things,” He assures.
Merlin grips the cart’s handles and wheels it across the remaining length of the courtyard, positioning it beside the main entrance stairs, then begins removing your belongings from the cart, placing them over his shoulders and under his arms. You join him, taking your bag of clothing and the wicker basket, which is filled with sewing implements and kitchen supplies. Glancing at Merlin, you see he’s loaded himself up like a pack horse.
“I admit, I might have to come back for those,” He inclines his head to the remaining bolts of fabric in the bottom of the cart.
“A splendid effort, nonetheless. Are you sure you can carry all that up the stairs?”
“I’m sure,” He grins. “Shall we head up?”
As Merlin leads you through the castle, you try to memorise each staircase, corridor and corner to your new home, until Merlin stops in front of a door in a quiet passage.
“Here we are,” He says, reaching into his jacket pocket with some difficulty.
He pulls out a key and inserts it into the door’s keyhole. With a turn and a click, the door swings open, emitting a brief creak. You step into a large, rectangular room which is indeed well-lit, with several small windows along the right wall. To the far-left is a fireplace, with two chairs placed in front with a small round table between them. In the middle-left of the room is a dining table with a long bench on either side. On the right of the room, against the windows, are two large worktables, perfect for spreading and cutting fabric. Next to those is a full-length mirror, a wooden dressing screen and a large shelving unit. A few well-placed rugs already give the place a homey feel. You can’t wait to arrange your belongings in here.
In the centre of the far wall is another door. You stride across the room and open it to reveal a smaller chamber. Sunlight floods the room from a window on the left wall, under which is a bed, about double the width of the one in your old home. On the right side of the room is a wardrobe, a trunk and a modest bookshelf. Against the wall closest (the one which the door is positioned) is a washbasin with a small mirror, and a bathtub.
“This place is amazing!” You say as you step back into the main room.
“I’m glad you think so,” Merlin smiles as he places your belongings down on the dining table. “I’ll just go and fetch the rest of your things,”
“Let me help,” You rush forward to go with him.
Merlin holds out his hands to stop you. “It’s alright, I’m good at carrying things, remember?”
“If you’re sure?”
“I am. You can start making yourself at home,” He shoots you a toothy grin and heads out, closing the door behind him.
You only manage to put your clothing away in the wardrobe and trunk in the bedroom by the time Merlin returns. He places the last bolts of fabric on the table next to your other belongings.
“Before I go, Arthur wanted me to tell you that some of the knights will be stopping by tomorrow. Something about gambesons, I think,”
“Alright, thank you for letting me know, and for all your help today. I highly appreciate it, Merlin,”
“You’re welcome. It’s nice to be appreciated.” Merlin smiles. “Anyway, I’d better get back to Arthur. Bye!”
He rushes out the door before you can respond.
~
The next morning, you find a place for your remaining belongings, making sure everything is neat and presentable. The shelves in the main chamber are now filled with fabrics, and atop one of the large tables, your sewing journal, quill and ink are ready for the day’s work.
A knock at your door startles you, but you take a deep breath, ready to greet your first client. You open the door to find not a knight, but the queen.
“My lady,” You greet her with surprise.
“Gwen,” She corrects you with a smile.
“Of course. Please come in, Gwen,” You step aside and gesture for her to enter.
She steps inside and looks around. “I hope everything is to your satisfaction?”
“Oh yes, I am more than satisfied. This will do very nicely indeed,”
“I am glad,” Gwen smiles. “Arthur informed me this morning that he’s planning to send some of the knights to you today. I thought he may have been a bit hasty, so if you need more time to prepare, I can put them off,”
“No, that’s quite alright, thank you. I am ready to get to work,”
“Very well, I should leave you to it. The first of the knights shouldn’t be too far off. Good luck on your first day,”
“Thank you my lad– Gwen,”
She nods with a smile and leaves your chambers.
About twenty minutes later, there are three firm knocks upon your chamber door. You rush to answer, and are greeted by a knight, one you believe you saw riding through the lower town a few days ago. He is tall and slim, with curly, dark blonde hair and a short beard.
“Welcome, sir?” You say, beckoning him inside.
“Leon,” He says, stepping into your chambers.
“Sir Leon, how may I be of assistance?”
“I’m in need of a new gambeson,”
“Alright, if you could just strip down to your tunic and trousers, I can take some measurements,”
The knight stiffens, brow furrowed in confusion. “Shouldn’t we wait until the clothier arrives?”
“I am the new clothier,” You state.
Sir Leon’s cheeks redden. “I’m sorry, I meant no offence. Just… is it really appropriate for a woman to fit a man’s clothes?”
“Since I haven’t asked you to strip down to just your unmentionables, I think we’ll be alright,” You smirk.
You swear you see the knight’s cheeks deepen further, as he nods and begins to unbuckle his cloak. You step closer and take his cloak when he’s removed it, standing by to do the same for his chainmail shirt and gambeson. You take the clothing to one of the worktables and place them down neatly, grabbing your tape measure.
“Lift your arms please,” You say as you approach him.
He does so, and you slip the measuring tape around his chest, bringing it together at centre front. You mutter the number to yourself, and step over to the table to mark it down in your journal. You do the same for his waist, then measure the length of his arms, before standing behind him to measure the width of his shoulders and the length of his torso.
Once all the figures are written down, you take his old gambeson from the pile of clothes and spread it out on the table. It’s clearly been well-used, the fabric worn through in some places, as well as rips and slashes in other areas. Grease stains cover the garment, made by the armour worn over it.
“And the new gambeson is to be in the same style and colour as this one?” You ask.
“Yes, thank you,”
You flip to a new page in your journal and take a quick sketch of the design.
“Very well, Sir Leon, I should have your new gambeson made up in a few days,”
You grab his pile of clothes and take them to him. He hastily gets dressed and clears his throat.
“Thank you,” Hey says, heading for the door. “Sorry about before,”
“That’s quite alright. Until next we meet,”
You close the door behind him once he’s stepped out, and exhale. You hope not all the other knights will be the same. You’re sure you’ll get sick of having to explain over again that you are in fact the woman for the job, not just an assistant.
You hardly have time to relax before there’s another person at the door. You answer to find Sir Gwaine.
“Sir Gwaine, please come in,”
He steps inside, looking about the room. “Nice place you’ve got,” He spins around to look at you. “I just saw Sir Leon on my way here. He looked flustered. What did you do to him?” He gives a lopsided grin.
“I didn’t do anything,” You defend yourself. “He was perhaps embarrassed that he basically said it should be a man in my role,”
Gwaine shakes his head playfully. “Ah, that’s Leon for you. You’ve got to cut him some slack. He’s been around since Uther’s time, so I suppose you could say he has a bit more of a… traditional outlook on some things,” He smiles. “Then again, he may have just been flustered from being alone in the presence of a beautiful woman,”
You scoff. “I don’t think so,”
“I wouldn’t be so quick to dismiss it. Leon is the nervous type. He’s not so skilled at talking to ladies,”
“Whereas I suppose you are, and are very confident in yourself,”
“I wouldn’t say that,” Gwaine shrugs.
“Anyway, I have a job to do. Stand here please,” You gesture for him to stand by the worktable. “What is it you need today?”
“A new cloak,” He grabs the sides of his cloak and spreads it out like scarlet wings, revealing several rips.
“What did you do, get dragged behind a horse?”
He laughs. “Something like that,”
“Well, remove the cloak please,”
He undoes the buckle at his throat and does as you say, passing the bundled cloak to you. You place it on the table and grab the tape measure. You stand behind Gwaine, measuring his shoulder width, marking it down in your journal before returning to your spot behind him, placing one end of the tape measure at the nape of his neck.
“Hold this here please,”
Gwaine reaches his hand behind his head and glides his fingers down until they brush against yours and over the tape measure.
“That’s it, now keep it still,”
He does as you say, and you extend the tape measure down, lowering into a crouch until the tape meets the floor. You mutter the measurement to yourself and stand.
“Thank you,” You retrieve the tape end from under Gwaine’s finger and he drops his arm down.
Back at the table, you mark down the number in your journal and unfold the cloak partially, to reveal the embroidered insignia. Flipping to a new page, you begin to sketch the design of the golden dragon for you to use as reference later. Sir Gwaine comes into your peripheral, leaning against the edge of the table next to yours. You feel his eyes on you and glance up.
“I expect you to take better care of the cloak I will make for you,” You say. “I will be very cross if you return here with it ripped to shreds,”
“Upon my honour, I will treat my new cloak as my most prized possession,”
Finishing your sketch, you pass the cloak back to him. He swings it around his shoulders and starts on the fastening when your stomach rumbles loudly.
“Please excuse me,” You say, embarrassed.
“Have you eaten today?” Gwaine asks.
“I admit I… may have forgotten. I’ve been busy getting ready for my first day,”
“No matter, let’s go to the baker’s and get you something,” He finishes fastening his cloak and heads for the door before looking back at you expectantly.
“I thank you, but there’s no need to trouble yourself,”
You glance over to the kitchen area of your chambers, spotting only a stale end of a loaf of bread to eat.
“It wouldn’t be any trouble,” Gwaine says, following your gaze.
“Alright then, I suppose I should get some things from the market as well while I’m out,”
You cross the room swiftly and pick up your basket before heading for the door.
“Let’s go,”
You walk with Gwaine from the castle to the town’s market street. He leads you to a small and familiar bread shop.
“I enjoy the fruit buns from here,” You say as you cross the shopfront.
“Have you ever tried the ones with custard in them?” Gwaine asks as he holds the door open for you.
“No, I haven’t.” You reply. “Since they cost a bit more,”
“Today’s your lucky day then,” He smiles before approaching the shop counter.
He orders two of the buns and the baker retrieves them from the angled shelves behind him, placing each bun in a small sheet of paper and passing them to Gwaine. The knight drops a few coins in the baker’s hand and steps back outside, where you follow him to a nearby bench to sit and eat. Gwaine waits for you to take a bite first, after which you look up at him with wide eyes.
“Good, isn’t it?” He grins.
You nod enthusiastically while chewing the mouthful.
You both eat the buns, Gwaine finishing his in three large bites. When you’ve finished yours, you wipe your mouth on the back of your hand.
“I really should do my shopping so I can head back and get started,”
Gwaine sighs. “I should head back as well. I hope you enjoyed your late breakfast?”
“I did, thank you Gwaine. I shall have to return the favour one day,”
“Nonsense. Having a fine cloak made by your hands will be repayment enough,” He stands and extends a hand to you.
You take it and stand as well, brushing crumbs off your dress. He lets go of your hand and gives a small bow.
“Good day to you, my lady,”
He smiles and turns around, walking back up the street to the castle.
After doing some shopping at the market, you head back to your chambers and use the rest of the day to start working on Sir Leon’s gambeson and Sir Gwaine’s cloak.
~
The next morning, you remember to eat breakfast, and with no new clients for the day, continue working on Sir Leon’s gambeson. An hour or so into work, a sharp pain swells in your lower abdomen. At first you push through, continuing with your sewing, but the pain intensifies, to the point you’re doubled over, gritting your teeth. You berate yourself for losing track of your cycle. You’re usually on top of it, but with all the changes recently, you’d let it slip your mind.
You rest for a while, waiting for the pain to pass, but every time it seems it’s going to subside, it rears its ugly head again. Irritated that if it continues, you won’t be able to get more work done today, you decide that you need to visit the herbalist in the lower town. You have seen her in the past for when your monthly pains have been particularly bad. You fetch your cloak from your bedroom and head out.
You slowly make your way through the castle, taking careful steps as not to jostle yourself too much. The stairs are particularly difficult and you take them at a snail’s pace. At last you reach the exit and start your descent down the main stairs into the courtyard.
“Hello, how are you settling in?”
The voice startles you, and you look up to find Merlin, giving you a warm smile.
“Oh, hello Merlin,”
Your jaw clenches as a wave of pain rolls over you, causing you to stoop over. Suddenly a hand is on your back.
“(Y/N), you’re unwell. I’ll take you to see Gaius right away,”
You look up at Merlin, his face lined with concern.
“That’s quite alright, Merlin. I’m just going to a herbalist in the town. She has helped me before,”
“You can’t walk all that way in this condition. I’ll take you to Gaius, he’ll be able to help you,”
You groan at another attack of pain, and lower yourself so you’re sitting on the steps, holding your knees against your chest. Merlin kneels on a lower step in front of you.
“I appreciate the offer, Merlin, but what afflicts me is… a women’s issue,” You say, sure it will get the man to leave you alone at last.
But he shows no revulsion, not even the slightest flinch.
“Gaius is a very skilled physician, and knows how to treat all sorts of ailments,”
You sigh, thinking how you would rather not have to walk through the busy streets of the town.
“Alright, you’ve convinced me,”
You reach a hand to Merlin and he stands, pulling you upright. He offers you an arm, which you grip firmly as he guides you up the stairs.
You remain on Merlin’s arm until he stops at a worn wooden door in a part of the castle you haven’t seen yet. He opens the door and guides you inside, an arm around your back. An old man with shoulder-length, silvery-white hair looks up from a book he was perusing, snapping to attention when he sees you.
“This is (Y/N),” Merlin says. “I caught her struggling down the stairs in the courtyard. She has severe menstrual cramps,”
“Bring her to the bed here,” The old man gestures to a simple bed nearby.
Merlin escorts you there and helps you to sit on the edge.
“A pleasure to meet you, (Y/N). I am Gaius, the court physician. Are you taking anything for the pain currently?”
“Not at the moment. I was just on my way to get something from a herbalist woman in the town,” You explain.
“You need not make the journey, you can come straight to me if you have any ailment,” He points at you with his thumb every few syllables, his voice stern but kind. “Do you know when your cycle is due to begin?”
“With the way I feel right now, I’d say tomorrow. I’m usually on top of this, just with the move into my new lodgings and everything, I lost track,”
“That’s quite alright. These things happen,” Gaius steps away to a long wooden workbench.
He sets up some equipment and beckons Merlin over, instructing him on certain ingredients he needs. Merlin swiftly steps across the room to a large bookshelf, packed with small glass bottles filled with various liquids, herbs and other things you don’t recognise. Merlin picks out some of the bottles and brings them to Gaius, who begins using the ingredients immediately.
“I will give you something for the pain now,” He turns his head toward you as he speaks. “But in future, I will be able to give you something to take a few days before your cycle, which should ease the discomfort,”
You hear crunching and scraping as he uses a mortar and pestle, followed by a low bubbling as a plume of steam rises from his workbench. You watch the physician work, until he presents you with a small bottle filled with a translucent green liquid.
“Take this now,” He says, passing you the bottle.
You hold it against your lips and tip the contents into your mouth, tasting an unpleasant bitterness as you swallow it.
“It should take effect in about twenty minutes. I will give you some vials to take with you,”
You hear a clink of glass on glass before Gaius turns around with a small parcel wrapped in hessian cloth.
“You can only take this once every six hours I’m afraid, but it should help. You may rest here until you feel ready to return to your chambers,”
“Thank you, Gaius,” you give the old man a smile, which he returns. “And you too, Merlin,”
After having rested for a time in the physician’s chambers, Merlin takes you back to your rooms and you part ways. Feeling quite worn out, you head to your room to lie down, hands clasped over your belly. Eyelids becoming heavy, you begin to sink into a slumber when a knock at your chamber door startles you. Swinging your legs over the side of the bed, you get up and head to the door. You open it to find Sir Gwaine looking back at you.
“I saw you in the courtyard earlier with Merlin while I was coming back from training,” He says, brow furrowed. “Is everything alright? You looked unwell,”
You step aside to let Gwaine in and he steps inside, his eyes still locked on you.
“I was unwell, but Merlin took me to see Gaius and I’m feeling much better now,”
A dull throb courses through your lower abdomen, causing you to flinch.
“What is it?” Gwaine asks, rushing to you, an arm on your shoulder.
“It is nothing to be concerned about,”
“I can take you back to Gaius, he ca–”
“If you must know,” You interrupt. “It is women’s monthly issues I am dealing with,”
Understanding washes over Gwaine’s face.
“And you are now the third man today I’ve had to speak to about it, so feel free to leave in disgust,”
“I’m not disgusted and I’m not leaving,” Gwaine stands firm. “Come and sit by the fire,”
He gently leads you across the room and into a chair in front of the fireplace, before beginning to pile kindling and firewood in the grate. After a few moments, he’s started a fire and steps back, taking the other chair beside you.
“I’ve heard the warmth can help,” He says, holding out his palms to feel the heat.
“You’ve heard?”
“Living with my mother and sister had me learn of these things,” He explains.
“I didn’t know you had a sister. Is she here, in Camelot?”
“No,” Gwaine says, reaching for the iron poker and jabbing it into the flames. “And that’s for the best,”
“Why do you say that?” You ask. When you look at him, you see his expression is not a pleasant one. “I’m sorry, I don’t mean to pry,”
“No, it’s alright,” He sighs. “I suppose you could say that we don’t see eye to eye,”
You nod in understanding. “Family can be complicated,”
Gwaine hums in agreement, staring into the fire for a moment, before he gets up.
“I’m sorry to leave so soon, but I need to get ready for training,”
You start to stand.
“No, don’t get up, I can find my own way out,” He says. “I hope you feel better soon. I’ll check in tomorrow if it’s not a bother?”
Your automatic response is to tell him not to worry about you, but it has been nice to be looked after.
“It won’t be a bother. See you tomorrow,”
~
You plod along the next day, doing bits of sewing here and there, taking rests in between. The day seems to crawl on especially slowly, until at last the sunlight fades and you put your sewing away. Having no motivation to cook anything, you eat a simple dinner before sitting by the fire with a candle beside you, making a start on the dragon embroidery for Sir Gwaine’s new cloak.
You bundle your legs up on the chair as the pain returns, wondering if Gwaine will be visiting after all. Perhaps he is very busy of perhaps he forgot. You try to decide which to be more likely when there’s a soft knock at your chamber door. Placing the embroidery hoop down on the small table beside you, you get up and cross the room.
“Sorry I’m calling late,” Gwaine says as you open the door. “I went to the market straight after training and spent ages trying to find what I wanted, then I had to head back to my chambers and get washed and changed, and – you don’t need to know all this,” He gives an abashed smile.
“What matters most is that you’re here now,” You give him an assuring smile and beckon him inside.
He steps into your chambers when you realise his different appearance. Until now you’ve only ever seen him in his knight’s kit. Now he’s wearing a brown jacket, with leather bodice and quilted fabric sleeves, over a grey tunic, cinched at the hips with a leather belt. His posture suggests he feels more comfortable than when he’s in uniform, and you can’t blame him. You’re sure the chainmail shirt would weigh one down eventually, even a knight.
“How are you feeling?” He asks.
“Better than yesterday,” You lead him to the fireplace, gesturing for him to sit in the chair beside yours. “Although Gaius’ potion is starting to wear off and I can’t take another dose for a few hours yet,”
“Well I did bring something that’ll hopefully help,” He reaches into his jacket and pulls out what appears to be a red cloth bag and passes it to you. The weight and feel of the bag surprises you, and the contents sag as you hold it. It feels as if it’s filled with grain. Upon inspection, you find that the bag is sewn shut on every side.
“What is it?” You ask.
“My mother and sister used them to help with their monthlies. They called it a wheat bag. You heat it by the fire, then place it against the place that’s painful. The heat is said to help ease the pain,”
“Is this what you got from the market?”
Gwaine nods.
“The thing you spent ages trying to find?” You ask.
“Well…” He scratches the back of his head.
“That is very thoughtful of you,” You say, touched by his actions. “You must show me how it is heated, I don’t want to set it aflame my first time using it,” You pass it to him.
He places in on the ground a few feet in front of the fire.
“Have you eaten dinner yet?” He asks.
“I had some bread and cheese earlier. I didn’t want to bother with cooking,” You admit.
“Ah, good old bread and cheese, that’s classic late night tavern fare,”
Gwaine grins, reaching into his jacket again, pulling out a paper bundle. He unwraps it to reveal two fruit and custard buns.
“Will you be wanting some dessert?” He raises his brows.
You gasp and take one of the buns. “How could I resist?”
“I almost couldn’t,” Gwaine takes a bite of his bun. “I considered eating mine before I got here,”
“You showed great restraint,” You say between mouthfuls.
After finishing the bun, Gwaine removes the wheat bag from beside the fire and passes it to you. You place it in your lap, against your lower belly, and take up your embroidery again, stitching away while you and Gwaine talk. He shares amusing stories from his times with the other knights and you share anecdotes about particularly rude or misbehaved customers. Not until you get up to retrieve more thread do you realise that your pain has almost completely subsided.
“That worked wonderfully, thank you Gwaine,” You say as you sit down again. “I must repay you in some way,”
“There is no need for that. To spend time in your company is enough for me,”
Your cheeks warm. Gwaine groans as he stands up.
“Speaking of time, I really should turn in. Morning training tomorrow,” He grimaces.
“That doesn’t sound like much fun,” You say sympathetically.
“It really isn’t. Sometimes I think our king is in love with sweat and pain. Anyway, goodnight my lady,” He bows.
“You realise I’m not a lady,”
“Perhaps not officially, but to me…” He places a palm against his heart.
“Oh hush. Get out of here before you speak any more nonsense,” You hold back a smile.
“As my lady wishes,” He gives a deeper, exaggerated bow and exits your chamber.

Different types of vanities
The bathroom is one of the most important rooms in your home. It's where you get ready for work and play. Vanities may be freestanding (meaning they stand alone), wall-mounted (meaning they are attached to the wall), or a combination of both. The main purpose of a vanity is to hold items used in the bathroom, such as towels, toiletries, and personal items. A bathroom vanity can also be used as an accent piece by adding decorative lighting or shelves containing knickknacks. The design of your bathroom should complement other elements like mirrors and faucets, so it's best not to mix styles unless you want your room to look cluttered or unbalanced. Vanity sizes vary depending on how much space you have available in your bathroom. Generally, they fall into two categories: small or large vanities for either single sinks or double sinks. Vanities come in many different shapes, including oval, rectangular, triangular, etc., which allows them to complement virtually any décor style, whether traditional or contemporary (modern). If you prefer something more unique than just plain old wood, then consider using stone countertops instead since they're more durable than regular wood veneers while still giving off an elegant vibe when paired with chrome fixtures! Maximizing Small Bathroom Spaces with Freestanding Bathtubs
When it comes to bathroom design, small spaces often present a unique set of challenges. Many homeowners feel restricted in their options, especially when it comes to adding luxurious features like bathtubs. However, freestanding bathtubs have become a popular choice for those looking to maximize both space and style in compact bathrooms. With their versatility, elegance, and wide range of sizes, freestanding tubs can transform even the smallest of bathrooms into a personal oasis. This guide will explore how to maximize small bathroom spaces with freestanding bathtubs and discuss the best freestanding bathtubs to consider for your home.
Understanding Freestanding Bathtubs
Unlike built-in tubs that require a surrounding deck or enclosure, freestanding bathtubs stand independently and are finished on all sides. This makes them an excellent choice for bathrooms where space is at a premium. Freestanding tubs come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and materials, making it easier to find one that fits both your aesthetic and spatial needs. From sleek modern designs to classic clawfoot styles, freestanding bathtubs offer a level of versatility that built-in tubs simply can’t match.
The Benefits of Freestanding Bathtubs in Small Bathrooms
1. Space Efficiency
Freestanding bathtubs are often seen as a luxury item, but they can actually be an efficient use of space in small bathrooms. Because they don't require built-in surrounds or enclosures, they can be placed strategically in your bathroom to maximize floor space. This flexibility allows you to create a focal point without overwhelming the room.
For example, a compact oval or slipper-style tub can fit neatly in a corner or alcove, leaving the rest of the space open for storage or a vanity. Some freestanding tubs are as short as 48 inches, making them ideal for small bathrooms where a full-size tub might not be practical.
2. Visual Appeal
One of the primary reasons homeowners opt for freestanding bathtubs is their undeniable visual appeal. These tubs can serve as the centerpiece of your bathroom, creating an illusion of more space by drawing attention to the middle of the room rather than the edges. Their sculptural quality adds a touch of elegance and luxury, making even the smallest bathroom feel like a high-end spa.
Moreover, freestanding tubs often elevate the design of a small bathroom, making it appear more open and airy. The space underneath the tub also contributes to the illusion of a larger room, especially if you choose a tub with raised legs or a pedestal base.
3. Customization and Flexibility
Freestanding bathtubs offer endless possibilities for customization. Whether you prefer a minimalist modern tub, a vintage clawfoot design, or something entirely unique, there’s a freestanding tub to suit your style. You can also choose from various materials such as acrylic, cast iron, copper, or stone, allowing you to select a tub that complements your overall bathroom design.
In small bathrooms, flexibility is key. Freestanding bathtubs can be positioned anywhere, providing more freedom in designing the layout. You can place the tub under a window for a scenic view, in the center of the room for a bold statement, or against a wall to save space.
Tips for Maximizing Space with a Freestanding Tub
1. Choose the Right Size
When selecting a freestanding bathtub for a small bathroom, size is crucial. While it’s tempting to go for a large, luxurious tub, it’s important to choose one that won’t overwhelm the space. Look for compact models that are designed for small spaces, such as those under 60 inches in length. Oval and round tubs tend to take up less space than rectangular ones, making them a smart choice for smaller bathrooms.
2. Consider Placement
Strategic placement is essential when installing a freestanding bathtub in a small bathroom. Avoid placing the tub in the middle of the room if you have limited floor space. Instead, opt for a corner or side placement to free up the center of the room. This will create a more open feel and allow for easier movement around the bathroom.
If possible, position the tub near a window or light source to enhance the sense of openness. Natural light reflects off the tub’s surface, brightening the space and making it feel larger.
3. Maximize Storage
In small bathrooms, every inch counts. Freestanding bathtubs don’t come with built-in storage like alcove tubs, so it’s important to plan for alternative storage solutions. Consider installing wall-mounted shelves, corner units, or a small cabinet near the tub to store towels, toiletries, and bath essentials. You can also use decorative baskets or trays around the tub to keep your bathroom organized without compromising on style.
The Best Freestanding Bathtubs for Small Bathrooms
When it comes to choosing the best freestanding bathtubs for small bathrooms, there are several factors to consider, including size, material, and design. Here are a few top options:
1. Woodbridge 59-Inch Acrylic Freestanding Bathtub
This compact and modern tub is perfect for small bathrooms. Measuring 59 inches, it offers plenty of soaking space without taking up too much room. The high-gloss white acrylic finish is durable, easy to clean, and complements any bathroom decor. Its sleek, minimalist design makes it a great choice for those looking to add a contemporary touch to their bathroom.
2. Signature Hardware 48-Inch Clawfoot Tub
For those who love vintage charm, the Signature Hardware 48-inch clawfoot tub is an excellent choice. This cast iron tub features classic clawfoot legs and a rolled rim, making it a timeless addition to any small bathroom. Its compact size allows it to fit in smaller spaces, while still providing a deep, comfortable soak.
3. Vanity Art 54-inch Freestanding Tub
The Vanity Art 54-inch freestanding bathtub is designed with small spaces in mind. Its simple, elegant shape and compact size make it a popular choice for homeowners looking to maximize space. The tub is made from high-quality acrylic, which is lightweight and easy to install, yet durable enough for everyday use.
Conclusion

Why You Should Buy Oval Shaped Tubs for Your Modern Bathroom
When considering a bathroom renovation, choosing the right bathtub can make all the difference in both aesthetics and comfort. One popular choice that combines elegance and functionality is the oval shaped tub. In this article, we will explore the benefits of opting to buy oval shaped tubs, their design versatility, and why they are the perfect choice for modern bathrooms.
What Makes Oval Shaped Tubs So Appealing?
1. Timeless Design and Aesthetic Appeal
Oval shaped tubs have a classic design that never goes out of style. Their smooth, curved lines create a sense of harmony and relaxation, making them a popular choice for homeowners who want to add a touch of elegance to their bathrooms. Unlike traditional rectangular tubs, which can appear bulky, an oval bathtub offers a softer, more inviting look.
2. Versatility in Bathroom Design
Whether you're going for a modern, minimalist look or a more traditional style, oval bathtubs fit seamlessly into various bathroom designs. The shape naturally complements the flow of most spaces, making it an ideal choice for both large and small bathrooms. The curves of a modern oval bathtub can soften the overall look of the bathroom, adding a unique visual element that rectangular or square tubs lack.
3. Comfortable and Ergonomic
One of the main reasons people choose to buy oval shaped tubs is for their comfort. The rounded shape of an oval tub provides a more ergonomic fit for the body, making it ideal for long, relaxing soaks. The smooth curves of the tub support the natural shape of the human body, allowing for a more comfortable and luxurious bathing experience. This makes oval bathtubs perfect for those who prioritize relaxation and comfort in their bathing routine.
Top Reasons to Buy an Oval Shaped Tub
1. Space Efficiency
An oval shaped tub can be a great solution for maximizing space in your bathroom. Its compact design allows it to fit into various layouts, including corner installations and freestanding placements, without dominating the room. For those with smaller bathrooms, a freestanding modern oval bathtub can create the illusion of more space by offering an open, airy feel.
2. Enhanced Bathing Experience
Oval bathtubs provide a deeper soaking experience compared to many rectangular tubs. This deeper design allows for full-body immersion, which is perfect for those who enjoy a long soak. The ergonomic shape supports a comfortable posture, reducing strain on the back and neck, and enhancing the overall relaxation experience.
3. Wide Range of Materials and Styles
When looking to buy oval shaped tubs, you'll find a wide range of materials to choose from, including acrylic, cast iron, stone resin, and even stainless steel. Each material offers different benefits in terms of durability, heat retention, and maintenance. For instance, acrylic is lightweight and easy to clean, making it a popular choice for modern homes, while cast iron provides a more traditional look with excellent heat retention properties.
Choosing the Perfect Modern Oval Bathtub
1. Consider the Material
The material of your modern oval bathtub can significantly impact its functionality and longevity. Here’s a quick overview of the most common materials:
Acrylic: Lightweight, affordable, and easy to maintain. Acrylic tubs are also available in a variety of colors and finishes, making them a versatile choice.
Cast Iron: Known for its durability and heat retention, cast iron is a heavier option that offers a classic, timeless look.
Stone Resin: Offers a luxurious, high-end appearance and excellent heat retention. Stone resin tubs are more expensive but are incredibly durable and aesthetically pleasing.
Stainless Steel: Provides a contemporary, industrial look and is highly durable. Stainless steel is resistant to staining and easy to maintain.
2. Freestanding vs. Built-in Options
When you decide to buy an oval shaped tub, you'll need to choose between a freestanding or built-in model. Freestanding oval bathtubs are perfect for those looking to make a statement. They are highly versatile in placement and offer a modern, minimalist look. On the other hand, built-in oval tubs can provide a more seamless appearance, integrating perfectly with your bathroom layout and offering additional features such as shelving or storage around the tub.
3. Size and Dimensions
Before buy oval shaped tub, it’s crucial to measure your bathroom space accurately. Oval bathtubs come in various sizes, so you need to ensure the tub will fit comfortably in your space without overwhelming the room. Also, consider the height and depth of the tub to ensure it meets your bathing preferences.
4. Jet and Soaking Options
For those looking for an enhanced bathing experience, consider modern oval bathtubs with built-in jets. These tubs provide a spa-like experience, offering hydrotherapy benefits that can help relieve muscle tension and stress. If you prefer a quiet, peaceful soak, a simple oval soaking tub might be the better choice, providing a deep, relaxing immersion without the noise of jets.
How to Maintain Your Oval Shaped Tub
1. Regular Cleaning
To keep your oval shaped tub looking its best, clean it regularly with non-abrasive cleaners. This is especially important for materials like acrylic and stone resin, which can scratch easily. Avoid using harsh chemicals that can damage the finish of your tub.
2. Check for Scratches and Chips
Depending on the material of your oval bathtub, you might need to occasionally check for scratches or chips. Acrylic tubs, for instance, are more prone to scratches, while cast iron and stone resin are more durable. If you notice any damage, repair it promptly to prevent further issues.
3. Maintain the Fixtures and Jets
If your modern oval bathtub has jets, run a cleaning cycle with a jet-cleaning solution every few months to prevent buildup and ensure smooth operation. Check the fixtures regularly for any signs of leaks or corrosion and replace them as needed to maintain the tub's appearance and functionality.
Conclusion
Choosing to buy oval shaped tubs is a fantastic decision for those looking to combine luxury, comfort, and style in their bathrooms. Whether you are drawn to the timeless elegance of a freestanding oval bathtub or the practicality of a built-in model, there are plenty of options to suit your needs. With careful consideration of materials, size, and additional features, you can find the perfect modern oval bathtub that not only enhances your bathing experience but also adds value and beauty to your home.

Reasons To Opt For Design Build in Austin and Westlake, TX
It is natural to become tired of the same living space. Trying to redo the interiors may not be enough. Moreover, the homeowner may begin finding signs of decay with fissures and tell-tale indications of wear & tear everywhere. Admittedly, reconstruction is usually off the cards for most property owners; instead, it makes sense to take note of the most damaged or old rooms and begin corrective measures. A bath remodel in Austin and Westlake, TX, is easily the most popular project as the room is functional and helps to gather one’s thoughts in solitude. Making it aesthetically appealing also helps to improve the user’s mood and increase the home value at the same time. The kind of change one needs to make depends on several factors, including the size of the bathroom and the conveniences one aspires for. Unfortunately, the person hoping to remodel the existing bathroom is spoilt of choice, leading to confusion. While it is best to hire a contractor to help with the remodeling, ideas may be picked up from multiple resources, with the outcome depicting the residents perfectly.
Some elements that may be changed or improved upon result in a truly spectacular bathroom. The latest trends reveal the following:-
1. Freestanding Bathtub- This is a unique and key addition to a modern bathroom. The homeowner is welcome to add this type of bathtub to the existing bathroom when there is enough space. The tub may be oval, rectangular, or of any other shape. It may even be designed to fit into a corner. The clean lines and flat edges make it truly modern in appearance, and safety is ensured as there are no claw feet, pedestals, or intricate carvings that risk tripping.
2. Mirrors- A bathroom without a mirror is unheard of. The primary or vanity mirror may be of the high-tech, frameless type that includes integrated lighting. One may opt for a backlit mirror that removes any shadow effect from the face. Such mirrors are perfect for shaving or application of makeup. It is also a space saver as there is no need to install additional lights. A thin frame or a frameless standard mirror installed on a medicine cabinet's door can be an excellent choice for small bathrooms. There are numerous shapes to choose from, and both classic and asymmetrical shapes are popular.
3. Lighting- Installing a single sconce light can help to illuminate the vanity area perfectly. One may use identical scones on both sides, creating a harmonious effect. A long and narrow bar light is clean and sleek, which helps to accentuate the modern look. The user can keep the energy consumption down by settling for a recessed light on the ceiling. They may be used to highlight a particular zone as needed. The ambient effect thus created has many takers.
Construction projects often take time, making the developer or homeowner exceed the budget. Considering the collaborative approach of design build in Austin and Westlake, TX, is essential. With the design and building handled by a single contractor, the project is completed without fuss and on time.

Step-by-Step Instructions for DIY Bathroom Renovations
Step-by-Step Instructions for DIY Bathroom Renovations
Most homeowners begin and end their days in the bathroom, although this frequently-used area is frequently disregarded when thinking about house renovations to make. Do you feel ashamed when visitors come over because of your outdated bathroom? We'll assist you in remodeling your bathroom affordably.
You can expect to save up to a few thousand dollars by doing it yourself, especially when gutting the bathroom renovations. Limiting the use of pricey materials like tile and repairing fixtures rather than purchasing new ones are two other bathroom makeover cost-saving suggestions.
Organizing a Bathroom Renovation
Choose design components
Select a design for the bathroom remodel that matches your vision and level of DIY expertise before you get started. This project can be approached in a variety of ways, from repainting and replacing the vanity to demolishing the room and beginning from scratch.
Before starting your bathroom renovation, make sure to settle on the following details:
Color scheme: Considering a contemporary farmhouse style? Or perhaps you want something simple and modern to go with the rest of your house's decor? To ensure that your new bathroom tiles will not clash with your chosen paint color, find inspiration images for your concept in advance.
fresh fixtures Will you get a new bathtub or shower? Are you putting in a brand-new sink? The cost and schedule of your project will increase if one or both of these fixtures need to be replaced.
Storage rooms After the remodel, where will you store your towels and toiletries? Make sure you have shelving or cabinets to replace the lost storage space in your bathroom if you're taking out a closet to make more space.
Utility locations: Do you know where the plumbing pipes and electrical cables are? To prevent breaking these hookups and needing to pay for expensive repairs, keep these spots marked.
Steps for Bathroom Renovation
1. Dispose of the bathroom fixtures
The first step in any bathroom renovation, whether partial or complete, is to remove the drywall and any existing fixtures. It's not too difficult to gut the bathroom yourself, but make sure to follow these instructions to prevent any costly blunders during the demolition stage.
To avoid any unpleasant spills, start by turning off the water, draining the bathroom, and removing the toilet.
Cover the bathtub if you plan to remove it before beginning to chip away at the bathroom tile until you reach the studs. This is required so that the plumbing may be modified to match your new shower or tub design.
Where necessary, take the insulation out of your walls. A hammer should not be used on insulation. Instead, remove the veneers with a reciprocating saw.
2. Construct a new shower or bathtub.
You can begin installing your new fixtures once you've completely renovated your bathroom. To stop future damage, you should replace your subfloor if it shows any signs of decaying wood or water damage before setting up your new shower.
When replacing a shower or tub, you should choose a pan or basin that complements both your new design and the area where your old tub is located. The most common shapes for basins are rectangular, square, or pentangles (with one corner removed). Consider the other elements of your bathroom, such as the door's location, while selecting a foundation shape.

Glen Isla Home Connects with the Beautiful Australian Landscape
The homeowners wanted a new house on a bayside site with views across Port Phillip Bay to the city. The building is contained to one edge of the site in order to maintain a strong connection with the existing landscape. Aside from that, the owners also want the house to take advantage of the long-distance views.
The materials used in the house are simple, clean and robust. It is designed to engage with the landscape as it grows and defines the property.
The entryway is tucked behind a timber-clad wall with vertical slot windows. These windows frame the views of the garden and add appeal to it.
A sophisticated weekender, the first floor living reflects the client’s love of food, wine and entertaining. The lower floor is internalized – the muted color palette punctuated by a punch of green identifying the cellar which forms the core of the house.
This is the dining area of the house with white kitchen cabinets and a wooden dining table. It has a floor-to-ceiling window that provide views of the area around it. Read Also: JC House: A Modern Trapezoidal Home in Portugal
The kitchen has a large white island, while dark cabinetry compliments the other dark elements like the dining chairs, counter stools and shelving.
Inside, polished-concrete screed floors and charcoal colored ceilings create a contemporary appearance, while a lime green rendered cellar adds a pop of color. Light wood stairs lead up to the second floor of the home.
This color is echoed in the first floor carpet as part of a lighter, airier assembly of materials and colors.
Just off the kitchen and almost hidden within the shelving and kitchen cabinetry is the door to the master bedroom. Green flooring has been used again as a color element in the mostly white interior.
The bathroom is also white with simple modern fixtures in it. It has a long rectangular mirror on the wall which makes it visually larger.
In the en-suite bathroom, a corner window adds natural light and provides a view of the trees, while dark flooring and a dark vanity contrast the white bathtub and white floor-to-ceiling tiles.
In another bedroom, a sliding glass door can be opened to have direct access to the backyard.
In this bathroom, a round mirror hangs on the wall, while white tiles in a chevron pattern cover the wall.
Upstairs is an open floor plan with an outdoor living room. It is located off the indoor living area which has large sliding glass doors that open the space up to the balcony.
Let us take another look at the home’s facade. This looks even more beautiful during the night when the outdoor space and the interior are lighted. The house is designed by Bryant Alsop and with the looks of it, they really did a great job with its layout and architecture. Of course, the interior is very nice too. Another thing that made the house beautiful is its mix of materials as well as the landscaping. You have also seen how it looks like during the night when the lights are turned on.
