I keep thinking about the Dafeng test pilot that you take down in the first chapter of Armored Core VI.

In any other mech storyline, this kid would have been the protagonist. Bright-eyed and hopeful, he would have been the poster child for youthful determination in the face of corporate war profiteering, either finding a cool trick to defeat 621, or being saved by the sudden arrival of other plucky young pilots.

But we both know that no one comes to save him.

The universe of Armored Core is fantastical by any definition, but in this one moment it is at it's most brutally realistic.

"I'm...keeping up with a real merc!" he says, "My training is paying off!"

Reality sets in as the tide turns abruptly in your favor. He is outmaneuvered, outgunned and outfought by the "merc who only kills for credits".

"I can't die like this!"

But he does. All the tenacity of youth couldn't save him from you, and he dies alone and afraid, lamenting his little dream of having his own callsign, his life amounting to the meager credits transferred to your account after the mission.

He would have been the protagonist anywhere else, but here on Rubicon he is a reminder that, in a warzone, no one comes to save little boys.

The rotation of Earth's inner core began to slow down more than a decade ago, altering the length of our days by fractions of a second.  Researchers from the University of Southern California (USC) created renderings of the inner core's movement using seismic data recorded from various earthquakes and nuclear tests, both of which send vibrations through the planet. By measuring the speed and interaction of the seismic waves within the Earth's layers, researchers can estimate the position and movement of the inner core.  The study confirms that since around 2010, the Earth's inner core has been slowing down, or backtracking, compared to its speed in previous decades; it is also moving slower than the Earth’s surface, according to a statement from USC.

Writing prompt: Danny failed science and Temperature affects the weather!!!

So when a cold front meets a warm front is can cause a storm, sometimes they can become extremely dangerous….

Danny has been really stressed lately with college applications and exams, plus the fact that his powers have been getting stronger lately. So one day he flys out to the middle of nowhere and lets off some steam in the form of letting his ice core go a little crazy. He does this every now and then to help him destress, today he used a little more power than usual but no big deal right?

Wrong. One week later the justice league is at his door and confronting him about a series of severe storms that have been created that they managed to track the energy source back to him.

Now they are trying to confront him about being a weather powered meta.

To be fair he was fighting the box ghost when they were learning about hot and cold fronts, how was he supposed to know they could form tornados?
