Steve Harrington gets stabbed with a kitchen knife (he loves though dw) (he would totally die in real life though)

Summary: The people of Hawkins were sure that if anybodys parent(s) turned out to be a murderer, it would be Eddie Munson's father, Al. Al was a thief whose son would begin selling drugs and actually be accused for murder. Nobody would expect golden boy Steve Harrington's dad to be as short-tempered as he was.

Also, I refuse to not write like a soap opera. This isn't realistic at all. Also, pushing Greek/Italian!Steve agenda.

When asked who would be capable of murder, Hawkins citizens always said, "Al Munson or his kid."

It was the obvious answer. Al had a criminal record and was arrested for murdering his wife. It was almost named a suicide, until police found the cause of death wasn't overdose but strangulation. The night police came to arrest Eddie's dad was the last time he ever saw him.

Eddie didn't feel for his dad; he hated him. He believed every word the police told him about his father, but be still visited.

"I saw you two arguing, dad. You threatened her!"

"Listen, kid. I'm telling you, I loved your mother. If anybody killed her, it was Miguel Harrington."

"Why would he kill mom?"

"He hated me."

"You didn't know the Harrington's back then. They moved here after mom died."

"You don't know anything. Just be careful of them. I'll bet you his son is even worse."

"It's you who doesn't know anything. Steve's nice, so is his dad. They're why I'm not in here with you right now."

"Don't say I didn't warn you."

"I won't."

Eddie dropped the phone and walked out of the room. When he got back to his trailer, he was greeted by Wayne and Steve watching football.

"Theres no fucking chance he made that- Oh. Hey Eddie." Steve's voice changed from frustration to love in a second. "How'd the talk with your dad go?"

"Alright, or as well as talking to a psycho can go." Eddie sat down next to Steve on the couch. "What's your dad like?"

"Why?”

"Just asking. You never talk about him."

"Well, he's loud, bossy, and... He's kinda just a rich asshole, you know?"

"No, I don't know. Like the ones on TV?"

"Yeah, actually."

Eddie leaned into Steve's chest.

"Who are we rooting for, Stevie?"

"Neither, we hate both of these teams. They both suck ass."

"Who do we hate?"

"Who do we hate less?"

"Well, I like the Chiefs, but Wayne likes the Falcons. This game isn't really that important though because 49ers are definitely gonna win."

"No, the Saints are gonna win."

"We'll see about that, Wayne."

The conversation was cut off by the phone ringing.

"I got it. Tell me who wins?"

Steve reminded Eddie that the game just started.

"Eddie?" The voice on the phone asked.

"Yes?"

"Great, is Steve there? He wasn't at his house."

"Robin?

"Yeah."

"Yes, Steve is here. He's watching football with Wayne."

"Can I come?"

"Yeah!"

The phone hung up from the other line.

"Robins coming over?" Steve asked.

"Mhm"

A few minutes later Robin came in, dropped off by Nancy who didn't stay sue to a date with Johnathan. They were all laughing and having fun. Eddie and Robin didn't really know what was going on, but they had fun badly commentating on what was going on. Life was good. When Robins curfew came (8:30), Steve drove Robin home and went back to his house. To his surprise, and slight dismay, his parents were waiting for him.

"Hey, papá"

"What are you hiding?"

"Nothing."

"You're my son; I can tell when you're hiding something."

"I'm not, dad."

"Tell me!" Miguel's voice roared through the otherwise silent house.

"Okay okay I have a boyfriend and I didn't want to tell you because I didn't want to be kicked out I'm so sorry."

"Why would we kick you out? Just don't get that new virus going around. Who is this mysterious boy?"

"His name's Eddie."

"Munson?" Steve's mother, Cora, chimed in.

"Yeah. I know he doesn't have the best reputation, but he's nice-"

"Stop seeing him." Miguel ordered.

"Why?"

"Because I said so!" Steve would swear the walls shook.

"Papá, can you just tell me why? I'm getting tired of not feeling like I have a say in what I do in my life."

Miguel grabbed a knife from the kitchen and began walking towards his son.

"Dad, please put the knife down."

"I'll give you a reason. His mother was a bitch. She would've stolen everything had I not done something-"

"What? Did you kill her or something?"

"And now I have to kill you. I'm sorry, son."

"Miguel! Put down the knife. Lets talk like a family. It's time we tell him our sins. They're old enough to know."

"No. No, they can never know."

"MIGUEL!"

Steve looked up at his dad with a knife shoved above his right chest, more towards his collarbone if anything.

Miguel looked at his son with a mix of horror and numbness on his face.

"We should go, Cora."

"Okay.”

"Mamá, please.”

Cora looked at her husband, then at her son.

"I'm sorry, my boy."

The last things Steve heard were a door slamming and the car engine of his parents convertible starting. His breath shook before his eyes closed. He laid on the floor, hopeless.

8:38 PM

Eddie had realized that Steve left his watch in his trailer. He got into his van and left for Steve's house. Eddie knocked on the door.

"Steve, you left your watch!...... Steve?" He knocked again.

He peered through the window and saw a pool of blood on the floor. Eddie hastily opened the door.

"NO"

His voice could be heard from Türkiye. Tommy opened the door to his house and ran towards the house.

"Is everything okay- Holy shit! Um, Munson, do you think you can call an ambulance?"

Eddie nodded, tears falling like a raging waterfall. Tommy went to check on his pulse, slow but there.

"Yeah, it's a knife wound near the chest...They'll, um, be here soon."

"Okay, good news is that he's alive. Bad news is that I don't know how long he'll stay alive."

"He'll be okay. He's always been okay."

"I don't know...get some bandages. We have to stop the bleeding."

Tommy took Steve's shirt off and took the knife out of his chest before applying pressure to the wound.

"Other good news, it's only about a 2 or 3 inch cut."

"ANY CUT IS A BAD CUT!" Eddie ran in with towels and bandages.

"I'm trying to stay positive here! Put his head on your lap or just get his back off the ground. Now when I say 3, as soon as it leaves my mouth, put the bandages on his chest. 1..2..3 okay wrap it."

"I'm trying!"

"Try harder!"

Sirens interrupted the bickering

"Keep applying pressure to the wound. I'll carry him outside."

"Okay."

9:00

Nancy, Robin, Johnathan, and the kids arrived at the hospital. Police questioned Tommy about what he heard that night, not much, he was watching football. A nurse walked up to the party.

"Is it looking alright? Is he alive?" Robin asked.

"He is alive, stable. He's still unconscious, but it looks promising. He's already healing quickly."

"Do the cops think it was attemptee homicide?"

"You'll have to ask the cops for that."

"When will he wake up?" Lucas questioned.

"We don't know. It could be some time tonight, tomorrow, a few days, weeks, maybe a month. However, it would probably range from 4 days to 2 weeks."

"Okay."

"It's a good thing you found him when you did-"

The nurse was interrupted by a scream of bloody murder. She hurried to the room.

"So much for 4 days."

Hopper walked to them. "The police don't think this was an accident, but now they can ask Steve once he's ready."

The scream stopped a few seconds after it started.

"Steve, I need you take deep breaths for me. Can you do that?"

"Yeah."

9:45 PM

"Can you tell us what happened?"

"Like I told the nurses when they checked my memory, I got curious and stabbed myself. It wasn't attempted homicide."

"Have you had thoughts of suicide before?"

"It wasn't like that. I just wanted to see what would happen... Look, it really isn't something to investigate.

"If you don't want to press charges, then there isn't anything we will do."

"There isn't anybody to press charges against."

The officer walked out, and Robin and Eddie walked in.

"Did you really do it to yourself?" Eddie grabbed Steve's hand and rubbed circles on his palm.

Steve shook his head no. "I'll tell you later... I'm sorry."

"Do you feel okay?" Robin asked him.

"Yeah."

"You were just laying there. Covered in blood. It made me realize how much I love you."

"I love you too, Eds."

Tommy walked through the door.

"What's he doing here?" Robin said.

"Okay, 1. Me and Steve may not be friends, but I don't want him to die, 2. I helped save his life."

"Thank you."

"I just wanted to make sure you're okay."

"I am." Steve jumped as the door shut following Tommy.

"Steve what really happened?" Robin asked.

"I can't say it here. I also can't stay at my house anymore."

"You could stay with any of us. I'm sure Claudia would welcome you, youre practically Dustins brother, Wayne treats you like his son-in-law, and my parents love you.

"We could talk about it later, Robs."

"Okay"

7:00 AM

Steve woke up on the hospital bed.

"You spent the night with me, Eds?"

"Yeah, how are you feeling?"

"As good as somebody who just got stabbed can be."

"Please, tell me who did this to you."

Steve signaled for Eddie to lean in and whispered in his ear, "it was my dad."

Eddies eyes widened in realization.

Baby, it's Christmas all over again 🎵

The whole place is decked with multicolor twinkle lights and kids' artwork, Cherry made a winter cake, Skip spent the entire party talking about homework (!!!!), Averie loved the golden Simmi that Jagger found, Alicia gifted Cora a painting from her collection (one of her "early works"), and Amir seemed genuinely excited to receive a decorative mounted fish that had once graced the walls of the factory office. Score!

Some days I'm like "I wish I were internet famous and had a big platform on social media" and other days I'm like "wow! thank goodness I don't have to take point on explaining that the Costume Institute is criminally underfunded and needs the Met Gala to survive!"

Basically EVERYONE who discusses the problems with fast fashion overconsumption is not yelling at people who need to buy their t-shirts at the cheapest price point because they can't afford anything else, they are talking about people who take advantage of the cheapness of brands like SHEIN or Wish or whatever to spend $1000 and get 250 pieces in one go, and then make a TikTok about their haul, and then do the same thing in 2-4 weeks. And they tend to be pretty clear about that.

I *knew* that companies have been trying to shift blame for damage to the environment onto regular people's buying habits, but it has still somehow been a shock to research a topic and find the internet totally dominated by the narrative that "consumerism" and the desire to buy more stuff is entirely responsible for pollution and landfill waste, instead of factors such as planned obsolescence.

It's insidious—this widespread idea that average people are too greedy, and that's what fuels climate change and pollution. Not greedy companies.

"Consumers shop for clothes to stay on-trend and throw away perfectly good old clothes." "Consumers only wear clothes a few times before throwing them away." "A huge amount of landfill waste comes from clothing that consumers throw out." "Consumers replace their wardrobes arbitrarily to stay on-trend." "Consumer demand for 'fast fashion' is rising spite of the environmental impacts."

Statements like this make it sound like regular people want to buy and waste vast amounts of resources, and normal people's unchecked addiction to shopping is causing environmental devastation. It's horribly misleading when products are being deliberately designed to break or wear out within one or two years and to be impossible to repair.

Instead of "Americans are buying way more clothes than they did 20 years ago, causing lots of landfill waste!"

Where are the articles entitled "Clothing brands are selling poorly-made clothes that have to be replaced much more often than 20 years ago, causing lots of landfill waste!"

Staking My Claim Part 1

Hello! Because of my flu, I've been working on low stakes stuff to help with my foggy head. I promise this week to be back on to the WIPs I have going to be build up my backlog again.

This started off as a silly "let the boys be goofy" and turned into a "found family with ONE goofy moment in it". Sorry about that. I blame the cough medicine honestly.

Eddie and his friends were enjoying a rare night where they didn’t have to play at Cora’s Den in Indy when it happened.

Now, Cora’s Den wasn’t gay bar per se, but as it was one of the most inclusive places in Indy, the normies considered it one.

So when he came back from going to the bathroom he leaned into the center of their table so he could whisper. “Tell me that’s not Steve Harrington at the bar in a crop top and cutoffs.”

All three of his friends turned to the bar as one.

Gareth smacked his lips. “As much as I would love to, man, no can do.”

“And is he really flirting with that dude?” Eddie asked with a wince.

Jeff raised an eyebrow. “I’m seriously doubting that. Looks like Stevie could use a rescue.”

Eddie turned and looked over. Sure enough the guy that had been flirting with Steve had been replaced by a new guy. And one that didn’t look like he was getting the hint to fuck off.

“Go on,” Brian said. “You know you want to. He’s clearly got a thing for the guys and you might even get laid for the first time in months.”

Eddie nodded curtly and slapped the table. “Right.”

Steve was having a good time until this guy came along. He just wouldn’t take no for answer. He wasn’t looking to go home with anyone. His parents had just blown out of town again and Steve was looking for a way to blow off some steam. Relax after the last week of sheer exhaustion of dealing with them and their judgments. He usually went with Robin so that people would leave them alone. Only she had the late shift tonight and the early shift in the morning.

He was going to wait until the weekend when they could both go and have fun, but Robin insisted that he go, otherwise he’d be moping around Family Video all week. So he came out tonight, not really out to get drunk, or laid, just to have a good time.

This was not that.

Suddenly an unopened bottle of his favorite beer was being pressed into his hand as a warm arm wrapped around his waist.

“There you are, baby,” a soft voice cooed. “Sorry I’m late, work was a nightmare.”

Steve let himself relax into the man’s side. “I’m just glad you made it, Eds.”

Eddie grinned at him. “I swear old man Thacher is getting worse in his old age.”

Steve laughed. “I know, right? I went in for an oil change and he berated me for twenty minutes on why couldn’t I just do it myself.”

Eddie frowned. “Don’t you have a BMW that requires a special oil?”

Steve pursed his lips and nodded. “Yup!”

Eddie turned to look at the guy who was standing there with his mouth open. “Are you still here?”

The guy bristled. “I don’t know what you think you’re doing, but I was here first.”

“He’s my boyfriend,” Steve said, straightening up, but still remained plastered to Eddie’s side. “Eddie Munson. Lead singer and guitarist for Corroded Coffin. You know, the band that plays here every weekend?”

“Yup,” Eddie lied easily. “So where’s Birdie tonight? Working the late shift?”

“Ha!” the man snapped. “That’s not his friend’s name. His friend’s name is Robin! I knew you were a fake.”

Eddie blinked at him as if the man had grown three heads. “Robin Buckley. Robin is a bird. Bird plus Buckley, ergo Birdie. I have nicknames like that for all my friends. And any friend of Stevie’s is a friend of mine.”

Steve rubbed his nose along Eddie’s jaw affectionately. “And how did you know what her name was?” he asked, not even looking at the guy. “I don’t think I recall seeing you around before.”

The man’s face paled and he turned on his heel, storming off in a huff.

“Thanks for that,” he murmured into Eddie’s ear. “I’m usually pretty good at getting assholes to lay off, but he wouldn’t take no for answer.”

“Your inner mean girl couldn’t make him go away?” Eddie whistled. “That is persistent.”

Steve giggled. Then he blushed and looked down. That was when he remembered the drink in his hand. “So what’s with the unopened beer?”

“I didn’t want you to think I was another creep by bringing you an open bottle.”

Steve looked up at him and blinked a couple of times. “Wow, you really are my knight in leather armor tonight.”

Eddie took the bottle and popped it open with his bulky ring on his middle finger. “There you go.”

“That was so hot,” Steve said stupidly.

Eddie threw back his head and laughed. “Duly noted.”

Steve was invited back to their table and had an absolute blast.

He was coming back from the bar with a couple of drinks in his hands when someone bumped into him, almost making him spill the drinks.

“Hey, watch it!” he hissed.

Immediately Eddie was at his side in an instant.

“You okay?” he asked taking a couple of the drinks from him.

“Yeah,” Steve groused. “Just some asshole not watching where he was going. I didn’t even get a drop on my shoes.”

Eddie snickered. “Yeah, okay. You and your jock reflexes.”

Steve leaned over and whispered, “I’m also very flexible in bed.”

“As in top or bottom or are we talking positions?” Eddie asked, running his tongue over his bottom lip slowly.

“Both.”

Eddie threw back his head and laughed. “No need to go so hard, baby. I was already wanting to take you home with me tonight.”

“What about your friends?” Steve asked grinning back. “It sounded like you all share the apartment.”

“We have a signal for if we bring anyone back,” Eddie assured him. “Also we know to keep it down because the apartment walls are thin and not just inside the apartment.”

Steve’s mouth formed an O. “I got you.”

He knew there were pros and cons to living in an apartment. Having your neighbors that close were definitely a con.

“You still living at home?” Eddie asked as they made their way through the crowd.

Steve nodded. “Yeah. It’s not like my parents are ever there. Though it would just be my luck that they’d come home while I’m out the queerest bar in Indy.”

“Not a fan of queers?” he asked once they reached the table.

“They’re fans of Reagan,” Steve said with a grimace. “I’m pretty sure that automatically puts them on the opposing team.”

The entire table recoiled in sympathy.

“Fuck, that’s harsh!” Jeff said. “Thankfully my parents aren’t Reagan supporters, though they have raised many an eyebrow at Eddie here.”

Eddie face turned into a feral grin.

Brian shrugged. “My parents don’t care as long Eddie doesn’t shove it down their throats.”

Steve rolled his eyes. That old nugget. Walking down the street holding hands with someone of the same gender was shoving it down their throats as far as they were concerned.

Gareth looked at his friends wide eyed. “Um...sucks to be you guys I guess, but my parents adore Eddie, don’t mind him or I being gay and threatened to sue the school over the devil worshiping allegations about our D&D club. So...”

“Three cheers for the Hughes family!” Eddie said.

They all cheered and clanked their glasses together. They downed their drinks and roared with unrestrained joy.

Steve could feel a rush of blood around his ears. The room faded in and out and it sounded like Eddie and his friends were under water. He staggered off his stool and nearly stumbled to the floor.

Then the world went black.

Moodboard • Episode 00: Prologue

The clacking of your heels was drowned out by the chaos of an office. You straightened your blazer and asked the receptionist to point you in the direction of your new field partner. She extended a long nail and offered a kind smile, and you followed her directions around desks and ringing phones and the toss of rubber band balls to a desk near the back corner. 

A man leaned back in his chair, the aluminum groaning under his weight. His ankles were crossed atop the desk, and he was licking pink yogurt off a plastic spoon. 

“Special Agent Steve Harrington?” You asked.

He looked a bit dumfounded, glancing first around the room before sizing you up. His brown hair was a bit unruly, and his shirt had been unbuttoned to reveal a patch of chest hair and a white tank underneath. “Yeah?”

You introduced yourself, extending a hand. 

Steve scrambled upright, tossing his spoon to the desktop and meeting your gesture with a clammy, but firm grip. He grimaced in pseudo-apology, a frown creased between full brows. 

He towered over you, broad shoulders and long limbs. You’d read his file. He’d been given a handful of medals of honor and bravery for his stint on the battlefield, and it showed in his lithe frame, the muscles that roped his exposed forearms, his hunched shoulders. You think you found further evidence in the dark circles beneath his eyes, the scar etched into his lower lip. 

“Owens speaks highly of you.” He said, offering you a seat at the desk. 

You slid another aluminum chair over and watched him toss his yogurt cup and spoon into a nearby trash can. The sting of strawberries and cream tickled your nose. “I don’t think I’ve ever heard Owens say something bad about someone. I think he’d tell a Demogorgon she was beautiful to avoid hurting her feelings.”

Your comment prompted a hesitant smile, and the wag of his head. “Have you been out before?”

“On the field?”

He nodded.

You swallowed. You’d seen one Blight, in your training. Your shoes squelched into barren land. You hadn’t gotten the smell of rot from your nostrils for a week. 

“My expertise is in psychotherapy and deescalations.” You said instead. 

Steve didn’t appear impressed.

You supposed talking people off ledges and removing a shaking hand from a trigger might be a little underwhelming to someone who had fought inter dimensional creatures and people with telekinetic powers. 

“Call came in from Green Bay, twelve-year-old girl convinced her foster brother to eat a box of detergent.” Steve pulled a file from the top drawer and tossed it to the table in front of you. 

Your stomach churned. You’d already read the brief, already seen the photos. This was your job now, time to toughen up.

You nodded. “When do we leave?”

Your hands trembled, aching from the cold. Your snot froze to your upper lip and stung in your nostrils. The wind whipped at your cheekbones, and your boots crunched in the snow. 

“Cora, put the knife down.” The glint of steel shined in your periphery, the knife floating mid-air, held inches from your throat.

Your gaze remained trained on the little girl. The ends of her hair crusted with frost and blood trickled from her upper lip.

The snow around her had been stained red with Steve’s blood. 

“We aren’t here to hurt you,” you explained, hands still raised. “We want to help. We know others like you. Other kids with powers.”

“Meredith told me she would keep me safe,” the girl sobbed, voice echoing across the barren field. 

You released an exhale for the woman you’d found in the kitchen, a foster mom turned puddle. Steve tracked Cora’s bloody footprints across the backyard and through the woods. 

You glanced down at her legs. Her ankles were swollen and purple.

“Meredith called us to help you, Cora. She asked us to take you back with us to our facility in the city. We can introduce you to other kids. We can teach you how to hone your powers.”

“I don’t want to leave!” She screamed, and you felt the weight of the knife against your chest.

“How’re you doing, really?” Steve elbowed you as you both stepped out of Owens’s office. 

You straightened your blazer, itching at the gauze on your chest.

You signed up for this. You’d done the training. You’d worked with a myriad of mental illnesses in all demographics. You told Owens as much. 

When you didn’t answer, Steve pulled you into an empty board room. That crease etched between his brow, and he leaned to eye level.

“The second you feel like this is too much, I need you to tell me. There has to be trust between us. We’re supposed to have each other’s backs out there and in here.” He emphasized his last words with fingertips to the tabletop. 

You chewed back a remark on how frustrating it had been to travel with him, to work with him, to ask him a plethora of questions that had been shut down. Instead you took a deep breath and said, “How are you doing, Steve? Really?”

He shifted, sat on the table’s edge, crossed his arms across his chest. The shoulders of his blazer raised to tickle the hairs at the base of his neck.

He’d told Owens the same things you had. All in a day’s work. You can’t save everyone. Things that you had echoed despite the churn in your stomach.

Meredith’s body was etched into your eyelids like the blue glow of staring into the sun. You’d slept with four blankets to avoid a chill. 

Steve contemplated your question for a moment before his shoulders released with a sigh. “That sucked. All of those kids will be without a mom. I keep thinking that if we’d gotten there five minutes sooner…”

You stared back at him, catching the vulnerability in his gaze. You swallowed, nodded. “I keep replaying everything I said to her, wondering if I could have said something different to talk her down.”

Steve shook his head, perfect coif wobbling. “You said all you could. It was actually really impressive.”

Your face warmed at the compliment and shrugged. “Don’t sound so surprised.”

He snorted at this and tapped at your elbow, nodding to a handful of agents walking your way. “Want some lunch? My treat.”

You nodded and let him lead you out of the conference room and down the long hall toward the elevators. Your shoes clacked the whole way.

When he woke up next it was dark out and his stomach was growling. As he sat up he could smell the warm heat of something cooking in the kitchen. He went to the bathroom and washed his hands. He knew he should brush his teeth and he vaguely remembered Eddie saying something about a spare around here somewhere, but he couldn’t remember where. And he really, really didn’t want to go rummaging through the drawers.

He gave up and decided to do it after dinner and have Eddie show him where it was.

He ran his fingers through his hair to tame the tousled look to something more respectable. He really didn’t think it worked. He had slept with it wet and it would take getting it wet and washed before he could properly tame it.

Jeff grinned at him when he came stumbling out. “Just in time, man. Eddie’s making his famous spaghetti.”

“It smells heavenly,” he murmured.

“Just wait ‘til you taste it, Stevie,” Eddie said with a wide, happy smile. “It’ll blow your mind.”

Steve blushed. “You didn’t have to wait for me to eat, I could have reheated leftovers or something.”

Jeff and Eddie shared a grin.

“This is when we usually eat,” Jeff explained. “We were working on a song for our band earlier.”

“I’m our lyricist,” Eddie said. “Jeff is the composer. He takes my silly little words and turns them into songs.”

Steve nodded. “And you guys play at Cora’s Den?”

“The Hideout and Alleyways, too,” Jeff confirmed. “But yeah, Cora’s Den is our main spot though, which is why Mrs. Hughes pays for this apartment for us to stay at when we’re here.”

“I’m still having trouble wrapping my head around the fact that Gareth’s parents are rich enough to afford a three bedroom apartment in the middle of Indy for you guys to crash at whenever you want,” Steve admitted. “My parents would never do that.”

Eddie shrugged. “We knew Gareth’s family had money when he first started playing with us. No poor schmuck living in Forest Hills was going to buy their ten year old a drum kit and remain sane.”

“Yeah,” Jeff agreed. “We just didn’t know how much until he offered his parent’s garage to practice in. That place has better acoustics then most bars we’ve played in.”

“Just what do his parents do?” Steve asked in awe.

“They run those fancy boutiques for pets,” Eddie said. “They have five shops around the country. Here in Indy, Chicago, New York, LA...and what’s the other one?”

“Miami,” Jeff said.

Eddie snapped his fingers. “That’s it! They charge hundreds of dollars for rich morons to make their pets as pampered as possible.”

“That explains more than it doesn’t,” Steve sneered. “My parents hate animals. The thought of a pet treated better than they treat their own son would have driven them crazy.”

“Not even a goldfish in the Harrington household?” Jeff asked, cocking his head to the side.

Steve laughed bitterly. “And have the water spill on the perfect hardwood floors? Not likely.”

“Even I had a hamster at one point,” Eddie said, shaking his head. “You are seriously missing out.”

“I’m hoping when I get a place of my own I’ll be able to get a cat,” he confessed.

“Aww...” Eddie said. “What kind?”

Steve shrugged. “Probably a rescue.”

Jeff and Eddie smiled softly.

“Sounds good, Steve,” Jeff murmured.

“Food is done!” Eddie said with a flourish. “Spaghetti in meat sauce.” He blinked for a moment. “You’re not vegetarian are you?”

Steve laughed. “No. You probably missed me tucking into the bacon and sausage for breakfast.”

Eddie tilted his head to the side. “Oh right.”

He dished out the food on three plates and handed one to each of Jeff and Steve before grabbing his own plate and sitting on the other side of Steve.

They tucked into their meals and ate quietly. A testament to how good it tasted.

For Steve, it was warm and hearty, filling a void he didn’t know he had. Even when he was in high school, he didn’t have a lot of guy friends and while he loved the Party with all his heart, it wasn’t the same as hanging out with people his age.

Once they were done, Jeff did dishes. Eddie led him over to their large fluffy sofa.

Steve settled in, curled up to Eddie’s side as he talked with Jeff about the new song.

It had been so long since he felt this safe. Like if he drifted off to sleep right now, he would be protected.

And wasn’t that just something.

Eddie’s voice broke through his revery. “Hey, sweetheart. I think you’re falling asleep again.”

“Being drugged sucks.”

Jeff laughed. “It sounds like you’ve been drugged more than once, man.”

Eddie and Steve looked at each other, then Steve winced.

“I may have angered a couple of Russian officers when I accidentally stumbled on their very illegal operation under the Starcourt Mall?” he said through gritted teeth.

Jeff rolled his eyes. “Considering how messed up Hawkins is, nothing surprises me anymore.”

Eddie and Steve huffed out a laugh.

“You’ve got that right,” Eddie said. “Come on, darlin’, let’s get you to bed.”

They got ready for bed and Steve finally got that toothbrush to brush his teeth. He washed his face and Eddie led him back to his bedroom.

Once Steve had gotten comfortable, he pulled Eddie to him before he could protest.

“You’re mine now,” Steve murmured happily. “I licked you. Remember?”

Eddie chuckled. “I guess finder’s keepers. I’ll happily be yours.”

They curled up on the bed and slept soundly knowing that they were heading back to Hawkins with more then the hookup they assumed it was going to be when Eddie first came to his aid.

And Steve couldn’t have been happier.

He was going to have to do something really nice for Robin as a thank you.

As he was falling to sleep, he felt Eddie lick the side of his face. He giggled and pressed their lips together. Eddie hummed happily.

“Love you, Stevie.”

“Love you, too, Eds.”
