While there is no official data on the cancellation, denial, impounding or revocation of passports in Jammu & Kashmir, media reports suggest that about “98-200” passports may have been revoked since the abrogation of Article 370. Amnesty International documented in detail two cases of critics facing arbitrary passport revocation and one case of inordinate delays in issuance of passports.

Masrat Zahra, a Kashmiri photojournalist who has won several international awards, has found herself in a state of limbo after her Indian passport was revoked without warning while she was pursuing higher education in the United States. Her family in Kashmir received a notice on 24 September 2023, dated back to 3 July 2023, demanding a response by 20 July—a deadline that had already passed by the time she became aware of it.

“They had already made their decision to revoke my passport, so responding seemed futile,” said Zahra. “I am essentially trapped. I cannot leave the United States, nor can I return to India. I’ve had to self-censor my thoughts, avoiding anything that might raise attention on social media. But the hardest part is being separated from my family and unable to continue my work in Kashmir. I feel a deep responsibility to be the voice of my people, who are currently voiceless. There are no stories coming out of Kashmir anymore.”

Before leaving India in March 2021, Zahra had been targeted under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in April 2020 for allegedly posting ‘anti-national’ content, though she was never formally detained. “Once I left, my name was added to a no-fly list. If I return to India, I know I will not be able to leave again. The police have harassed and surveilled my family, assaulted my father and mother. They questioned neighbors about my whereabouts and subjected my family to endless phone calls,” Zahra explained.

In addition to these challenges, Zahra continues to face death threats, and the charges under which she was persecuted remain active. “Even though I was never given a copy of the FIR, the authorities retain the power to arrest me at any time if I return,” she added.

Waheed Para, an activist and political leader associated with the opposition Jammu & Kashmir People’s Democratic Party (PDP), was accused by the National Investigation Agency, India’s primary anti-terror investigation body of being a “threat to the security of the state”, and had his passport impounded and revoked in May 2023 by the Regional Passport Office in Srinagar before he could travel to the US to start a fellowship at Yale University.

Páramo

I was reading the fourth chapter of "The Hound of the Baskervilles" and for some reason I always forget the translation of moor into Spanish. Páramo is not a word that I use a lot so probably that's why I always forget it. This is the first time I read this book in English so I couldn't remember too much about some details, so this is a good excuse too look for this part in my copy of Todo Sherlock Holmes

As you value your life or your reason keep away from the moor.

The edition in Spanish is almost a literal translation

Si tienen valor para usted su vida o su razón, deberá alejarse del páramo"

How do they translated the original text? Well, the difference is the word you and your translated as the formal usted and su.

‘You may be cajoled into imagining that your own special trade or your own industry will be encouraged by a protective tariff, but it stands to reason that such legislation must in the long run keep away wealth from the country, diminish the value of our imports, and lower the general conditions of life in this island.’

In Spanish looks like this:

Tal vez se imagina usted que su propio comercio o su industria se verásn incrementados si tienen un arancel protector; pero hay razón para creer que, con dicha legislación, a la larga, la riquesa deberá alejarse del país, se reducirá el valor de nuestras importaciones y bajará el nivel general de vida de esta isla.

The other difference are the word cut together. In English are two groups: keep away and from the while in Spanish are three groups: si tienen, o su, deberá alejarse del.

I like how the translator solved the problem of "keep away". In Spanish the verb to move away is alejarse and adding the verb deber they can change the subject of the sentence and implies an order (like using must). The original text has that word but it's not used in the note, but in the Spanish version is a necessity.

Translation is hard as fuck.

We are looking for more archivists

Hello wonderful qsmp community! Qsmp-resources had to go on hiatus because half of its team (one entire archivist) was struggling with school and had to stop their work at the archive. And thus we have fallen slightly behind. Fortunately, we are back and with summer and ideally more free time for operations to pick back up!

Lessons have been learned, lesson being is kinda precarious trying to keep a project like this going between just two people so, Qsmp-Resources is looking for folks interested in being archivists!

Currently, we remain a bilingual project (ENG/ESP) but it would be wonderful if we can expand to Portuguese and French! Especially since it could mean keeping all community updated with accurate translations.

What does the job of an archivist entail?

Copy the links of cc's streams to the archive and help keep the spreadsheet updated

Download the vods from twitch, youtube and archive.org (when needed) and uploading them to a different platform to ensure a copy of the video exists

Help translate the archive updates to french and portuguese and any future language that gets added to the qsmp

Buenas a todos bonita comunidad del qsmp! Qsmp-resources tuvo que tomar una pausa porque la mitad de su equipo (una archivista) estaba teniendo problemas academicos y tuvo que dejar su trabajo de archivo temporalmente. Afortunadamante estamos de vuelta gracias al verano que idealmente nos deja mas tiempo para que las operaciones se desatracen!

Restored in 2018–19, this is one of the more significant paintings of the Virgin Mary to survive from the workshop of the Florentine Renaissance artist Sandro Botticelli. The exposed breast with which the Virgin Mary is nourishing her infant son, the Christ Child, is central to the design of the painting. The young Saint John the Baptist on the left and the angel on the right are slightly bent forward as if to fit into the circular format. This tondo was among the very first early Italian paintings to enter the National Gallery’s collection, and its acquisition in 1855 coincided with the rise in popularity of Botticelli. Numerous artists came to see it, producing copies of it, and studying its tempera technique (tempera is paint made using egg yolk as a medium).At some point it was displayed next to works by Raphael. The painting survives with its original frame.

This is the version 2, but including version one just like as a reminder of what was which I’ll throw as a reblog onto this. As I’ve been trying to rehone things with this, and feel free to ask more questions, though I may take a bit to respond as I am sick right now and there are storms brewing in my area. 

Plus working on a sort of side blog about my original/inspired projects, that isn’t just daydreaming based but most are and just a general brainrot blog to work on the exclusive “mega paracosm” (daycosm 3) into a more defined version with only inspired characters and not straight up canon characters. 

The major locations of my paracosms like the previously mentioned version 1 are not consistent enough yet to talk a good chunk about, it’s kind of like a mmo or a first draft right now so going to go onto to talk about some paras, these aren’t all nor all main paras as the paras that are focused on change a lot, with new ones being added based on newer or even older interests coming back, and/or a hyperfixation. But as mentioned in version 1 they are super violetial and are prone to change.

Taking inspiration from @/Theaufaverse and their gangs/groupings of characters [their blog isn’t strictly daydreaming based], though this did exist in my paracosm beforehand I’m putting generally more focus on it and making it more obvious. But you’ll probably see other non-popular media/creations being used as inspiration like @/spherearc and the council of favorites [though this did exist beforehand in my paracosm it just was never named]

Though not going fully in depth about every para, I'm going to try to do an overview-ish about them. Feel free to ask more questions, and if anyone has old paras they want to see try to get used, or a paracosm they aren’t working on anymore feel free to talk to me. idk im bored.

Also generally not going to talk about any au versions, yet. They still need some time in the oven, but just going to mention some I’m working on [feel free to ask about] just know that they need more time in the oven currently so information is bound to change about them and such. Or any not mentioned you know I have had.

Honestly I don’t really know how to explain the main paras or main groups due to the big rewriting of the paracosm so gonna try my best but note they are wips, and things are bound to change. These are going to be primarily the original paras, so :3

also gonna generally ask to keep asks to 1 question per ask unless heavily tied together to try to help me not sit on asks for months. 

like you can give multiple emoji prompts just separate them with for example commas. But like songs keep to a single ask per song generally, or relationships with other characters.

Alright now onto the new

Current system’s paracosms for those curious and general status:

Daycosm 3 - The system’s Centrecosm, it’s a blanket paracosm with various events and groups being their own subcosm. This paracosm is very much just primparas, various alter paraselves, and paratenres. This is a story about time loops and cycling, and how you can always give things a new try. But also about loss, forgiving and letting go.

Rpverse - This is a daycosm 3 “buddycosm” aka these two paracosms are so intertwined but Are Not subcosms of each other. This paracosm isn’t talked about much these days as it needs a lot more work than daycosm 3 to get presentable. A Lot of daycosm 3 paras have counterparts here. Active.

Into the flip pit - Active, a blanket paracosm which subcosms follow various groups. A collab paracosm by the system, which is mainly Fnaf & Dsaf based though there are non-fnaf related things included like Faith the unholy trinity and EcopportunityX, along with a small bit of pokemon.

Nightcosm -3 - This is just the blanket paracosm for various aus of daycosm 3, each au are typically their own subcosm. Though rpverse aus are typically lumped in here just for convenience. This paracosm is always active though what subcosms are is a different story.

Aether life - This is the current name of the cookie run paracosm, majorly inactive. This needs alot of reworking as we really want to strip the paracosm of all the cookie run barcodes as we’re so tired of the actions of the parent company devsisters.

Fallen hearts - This is a paracosm based on exomemories of various system members, this is an active paracosm but weary of sharing it. Because most paras are all paraselfs for various alters and a lot of them are fictive introjects with their canon source selves being commonly seen as sexy, hot, ect. Which most of the alters are weirded out about being directed towards them.

Minecosm - Dormant, this paracosm only gets mentioned as it was the system’s first major paracosm being based off of minecraft. Though there are some attempts to bring it back, though this paracosm was originally a sandbox paracosm which is why it’s not touched much.

Shape realmverse - Sorta active, a paracosm that’s a batshit insane rewrite of a silly roleplay the system got attached to but ended up hating how the source went down. This paracosm is technically a mutual paracosm as the original sources still give influence to this. Though this paracosm isn’t as developed as others due to how much effort it takes to rewrite the lore.

Three realms - Sorta active, Mutual paracosm technically, a paracosm I stole from my mutual after they stopped enjoying the og source. But I’m honestly scrubbing the barcodes of the source from this because I’m so tired of said source. 

Scorned Reverence Ava - Semi-Inactive, this paracosm’s activity really depends on drake as that’s his paracosm. This is an animator vs animation paracosm, though a lot of common fanon hcs are purposefully Not canon here. As this paracosm is lowkey also drake’s exomemories of his source.

Of Ash and Fire - Semi-inactive, a crossover of some daycosm 3 subcosms and a sort of friend’s story. Though this paracosm is likely getting turned into a subcosm for daycosm 3 and the fictparas having their barcodes scrubbed off.

Of Smoke and roses - Active, a hard to describe paracosm but I’d consider it a PAradaptive. It’s a super personal paracosm that is a personal crossover of 3 medias along with daycosm 3. This paracosm likely will not be mentioned further due to the personal details in it.

I was doing a quick bit of research, simply because Quebecois swearing is a Trip™️, when I stumbled across the word's Wiktionary entry. And in it, I spot this line:

Now, as someone who has been learning Spanish for a hot minute now and likes to pick up odd words whenever I see them, this piqued my interest. Naturally, I go to look up some more information on the word tabarnaco.

I don't find much. Naturally, when looking into the meanings of Spanish words, my first idea was to search in the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE, from Real Academia Española). The RAE does not contain any entries for the word tabarnaco. I do find an entry on Urban Dictionary, but I don't really hold it as a super reputable source, I don't think? And that's it.

Before I continue recounting my trip further down the rabbit hole, let me take a moment to explain a bit about the relevant linguistics at play here.

A lot of swears in Quebecois French come from French words pertaining to Christianity in one way or another for reasons I didn't pursue in this quest for knowledge. (I was after something else, as you could see.) The Quebecois swear tabarnak is a respelling of the French tabernacle, which translates into English as tabernacle and into Spanish as tabernáculo.

Back to the story. Like anyone else might do when potential online sources for something have dried up, I turned to Reddit. I made a post asking if the word tabarnaco is used in Mexico to refer to the Quebecois. Unfortunately, the post and all responses are in Spanish. If you can't read Spanish, an online translator will probably do the job just fine. I haven't tested it. Anyway, while I didn't get a ton of responses, the ones I did get converge pretty soundly onto one answer: no.

Now the question in my mind was "What gives?" Sure, Wikipedia and its sister sites are wrong sometimes, that's just a given, but why was it wrong in this case? This seems like a pretty silly thing to mess up. Was it a simple mistake? Was it vandalism, for some reason?

First things first: who added the line I screenshotted above? A quick dig back through the page's edit history reveals that it was added by the Wiktionary user Urhixidur. A look at their page shows that their native language is French, the have a professional understanding of English, and they have next to no understanding of Spanish. This is a bit of a red flag, but whatever, I guess.

Another thing: you can't tell from the screenshot because I highlighted the relevant line, but the link for tabarnacos is red, indicating that there is no English Wiktionary link for the word. This page also does not exist in Spanish Wiktionary. However, it does exist in French Wiktionary. By going to the French Wiktionary page for the singular form, tabarnaco, you can see an example usage.

Finally, I might have started to get somewhere.

The given example is the title of a collection of poems by Paul-Marie Lapointe, titled Le sacre : Libro libre para Tabarnacos libres, published in 1998. This is stranger than it might appear at first glance. Paul-Marie Lapointe was born in and died in Quebec. The title is partially in French and partially in Spanish. While I do not have easy access to a copy of these poems, they are, to the best of my knowledge, entirely in French. I was able to track down the names of the poems, of which there are ten, and, in order, the first letter of each of their titles spells out T-A-B-A-R-N-A-C-O-S.

And this, dear reader, is where I have decided this story ends, at least from my perspective. I have given up on trying to locate further any sort of origin for this maybe-word-maybe-not-word. Maybe Lapointe, from the great Mexican state of Quebec, was the first. Maybe it was used earlier than him. I don't know, and I've run out of both the energy and the means to keep looking.

This has been what has been consuming a lot of my time last night and all throughout today. I decided to write this out to try and finally put it to rest in my mind. This was an interesting journey, trying to find more information on this word, which probably does not actually exist in any major way in Mexican varieties of Spanish. I don't know if anyone has read this far, honestly. I don't normally write posts this long. If you have actually read this far, then, uh, thank you, I guess. You really didn't have to, lol. Three days, Thesis days

August 7: Cafe and pagpapanggap na gumawa ng thesis

It's been a while since nagsulat ako dito because I took a vacation to refresh my mind. Pahinga then laban ulit sabi nga nila. Two weeks before the pasukan ay plano ko na i-maximize ang aking time para naman magkaroon ako ng progress sa aking thesis. With that, I contacted people that may help me and endorse me sa mga government offices since I need local ordinance and resolution documents para I can track the political progress (in term of policies, rules, and etc.) of our town.

But before all of that, nag-cafe muna ako kasi gusto ko mag-romanticize ng thesis era by studying at a local cafe haha.

A rough draft of my thesis. Like super duper draft lang siya so don't trust that write up. Plus, my matcha latte 4/10. Masarap naman yung ibang drinks like the Ube latte (8/10).

I decided to message Mayor's Secretary since I am confident that they might know where can I access documents that I can't find in our municipal library. Then, I messaged some friends and colleagues para more chances of winning. August 8: Reflections and pagod all day

The first record na aking nahawakan would be the Ordinance and Resolution from 1967 to 1982. Arawi la ed thesis timeline ko pero sarag to nin nagamit parad future research da ray estudyante ya kaparak.

The second record naman na binigay sa akin ay ang Ordinance and Resolution from 1917 to 1960s. The record was interesting because somehow I had a glimpse of the situation of Mapandan during that time period. Daiset labat may record ed 1917 to 1920s pero importante pa rin ta walan sensyay naibaga tod history ya Mapandan.

The last book naman na binigay sa akin ay ang Centennial Celebration ads ng Mapandan. Nag-iisang copy yung ads sa munisipyo so I can consider it na rare document ito. Yung mga details na kailangan ko for my thesis ay nasa ads na like the history of Mapandan from 1887 to 2002 and the history of its barangays. Thankful for the Mapandan National High School teachers and student-researchers kasi sila yung nagsulat at nag-compile ng mga data for the Centennial Celebration.

Pinakain rin nila ako ng kanilang merienda. Goods naman ang lugaw with egg and Sprite after mag-picture ng mga documents.

When I accessed the records ay mas lalo akong naguluhan sa kung paano ko gagawin ang thesis ko. I'm glad na may mga existing records na like may nahawakan at nakita na ako na alam kong makakatulong sa akin. Do I have to use --style raw to create good Midjourney photographs?

No. Adding words like photographic, photograph, photography to the prompt is typically sufficient. As always, some prompts respond differently than others.
