I've said a little bit before about how i think john did physical abuse by proxy. i.e putting them into situations on hunts where they will be hurt, letting dean hit sam as a proxy for his anger.

because i do think actually being the one to hit his children would be a step too far for john. you think he's gonna hit mary's babies?? but sometimes they do piss him off and he wants to

sam is constantly fighting him and it clearly pisses dean off too, so what if he doesn't step in? dean gambled away all their money, so what if he lets him rot in a cell for a few days?? why not send dean away to do a dangerous hunt on his own? if he gets hurt, doesn't it serve him right?

You know, sometimes I feel kinda silly for the unreasonable feelings I've developed around the closeted disaster bisexual and his gay autistic angel... Especially since they hit me pretty late in my viewership. Sometimes I'm like "well the finale was a disaster and a cop out and they would never really have made Destiel fully canon." Sometimes I wonder if I should be more upset at their hamfisted attempts at inclusion and tendency to bury their gays.

Trying to explain to Dean Winchester fans on Twitter why Dean Winchester is absolutely a cop adjacent character is like pulling teeth. This person was like “ugh why is Jensen playing a cop?!” And I lightheartedly replied like “well are you surprised Dean is basically a cop adjacent character” and surprise surprise they are very defensive about this 😅 I just think it’s very ironic because if you are going to be on such a high horse about watching cop shows because you are ethically against cops, you should be open to analyzing media beyond the surface level wrt to how justice is carried out because supernatural is ABSOLUTELY a metaphorical cop show, even if the literal police in supernatural are antagonists in episodes.

Dean and Sam are not literally “pro cop” because they are CRIMINALS in the show but the underlying values are absolutely cop adjacent, just through supernatural metaphors…

Idk I feel particularly sensitive to this topic considering most supernatural fans are white (including the ppl arguing with me on Twitter) and as a black fan it’s always been really obvious to me from day one how supernatural largely revolves around protecting this idealized version of pure, suburban, innocent, white America. And this ties into some of the broader arguments about the show as a kind of form of copaganda. There are evil invaders in these happy white communities (notice how they never really save black people lmao…) that are just inherently evil and must be killed no matter what, even if they are just trying to survive. And when Sam and Dean kill people, it’s just because they are doing what they have to. So they are, in away, even above the law they uphold. I have so many thoughts on this, I am not doing it justice here lmao.

My fave thing about Jack on rewatch was realizing how internally unlike Sam he is, despite the symbolic, structural blocks of being a “gifted kid.” Emotionally? Nah.

Not if you’re paying attention.

I feel like @dawg-motif really helped me puzzle that out re: Jack’s valuation of blunt honesty and need for space and processing. And after that, it’s like Jack’s entire arc clicked into place for my brain.

There is such a temptation in fandom to assume he’s a copy-pasta of Sam because of his “doomed child” motif, or that he’s like Cas because of his literal-mindedness and sass. But emotionally? Not even close.

Or worse, there can be as assumption that his “performing!Jack” is how how he actually feels about things... Falling for Jack’s sunshiney ditzy act is like falling for Dean’s mythical Marlboro man act.

Misha Collins is an amazing actor, I can't see a shred of Castiel when he's playing Jimmy. He's in the same clothes but when he's Cass he's Cass and when he's Jimmy he's Jimmy. He holds himself differently, He speaks differently, He is fully another character.

Jimmy seems cool, but why don't Sam and Dean check and see if the people that they save from demons are possessed by demons? Just a 'Cristo' or splash of holy water just to make sure? I'd take like half a minute and then you know they're truly safe? Jimmy giving himself up so Clare doesn't have to be a vessel 😭😭😭.

Then Dean finding out Sam has been drinking demons blood for a power up. Saying he's not mad just disappointed then him and Bobby devised a plan to get him to quit cold turkey, this'll be interesting. We're getting to the end of the season.

I’m thinking someone needs to write a really stupid heist au with Cas and Gabriel who are somehow these big time criminals who only work with their family, but then Anna decides to get out, Lucifer gets arrested and then Michael and Raphael decide they are too old for this shit and retire.

This leaves Cas and Gabriel in search of at least one last score and Cas is like, well I might know a guy and up rocks their new getaway driver, Dean Winchester and his brother Sam who is new to the game but definitely got the brains to pull off whatever extravagant mark Gabriel has come up with.
