@coolurbanhippie : “Y’all!! This past weekend will be one I will NEVER FORGET!! My biological father came to Memphis to spend time with me for the holiday. Let’s talk about how significant this is… I haven’t spent more than 30 days of my entire life around this man. He didn’t raise me and wasn’t really present in my upbringing. He made some calls every blue moon or sent a gift. But, that’s about it. But, even after all of that, I never had animosity towards him. My mom did an excellent job of taking me around his family in Macon, GA. I know my other family and they know me. Unfortunately, he still wasn’t around. But for some reason, I wasn’t mad at him. One of the main reasons was that my mom married an amazing man when I was 3 and he become the best dad ever. So, I didn’t lack a father. Another reason was that my mom would talk to me about him often. She never talked bad about him. Instead, she would tell me how they met, What kinda of person he was, How I’m so much like him that it’s scary, etc. He just sounded like a really great guy! And she reassured me that he was. THEY just didn’t work out. So, over the last 5 years or so, “Wig” and I have been Facebook friends. We see each other’s life. We like each other photos. We message each other from time to time. So, that helped us develop a report. And then a couple of weeks ago, he told me him and his girlfriend were coming to Memphis. And I was so excited!! When he got here we went out for drinks and just looked at each other and talked. We talk about everything. The past. The Whys. What he was going through. Our differences. ALL OUR SIMILARITIES! The pain. The traumas. The love I had for him. The grace and forgiveness. Regrets. And hopes for the future…all with a red cup in our hand in a Hole in the wall club called “The Boom Boom Room”. It was everything I ever wanted!! We’ve spent the last 3 days together just being in awe. We are healing together. We don’t hear about stories like this. I’m aware. But, stories like this happen and CAN happen. But, it takes work. This just happened to me. Day 42 of #108daysofyogapractice Rest is certainly a part of yoga… start with shivasana, dig deep, then Nidra, dig deeper. This is about as far as I am on this journey… intuition tells me there are many more layers in the wild country beyond. Upfront, @thenapministry and @mspackyetti require massive credit around the concept of rest, sacred rest. Grateful for their broad and expansive voices. I reposted this because, today, I needed just this support (even though it’s choir-preaching in these parts). Woke as usual at 6:15am then dozed until 11am (not an unusual or unhealthy pattern). This wasn’t the plan; yet, the body always knows the score. And the body was right (again). There is a deep, deep weariness—decades in length—from which I’m finally recovering. I’m resting and reconnoitering for the next big set of journeys. Journeys where you “just go;” ones where you commit 100%— you can turn back, but it’s not worth the cost. Better to keep trudging ahead, knowing in the gut that you have yet to discover wonders beyond your currently limited cognitive comprehension. 🙏🏼💜 #Repost @mspackyetti ・・・ capitalism really has us out here thinking we have to earn something that is divinely ours.
