this ask may sound as a rant but it's more of a plea.

i have to say that your previous answer woke me from my sleep stupor with the mention of the legal and financial issues within the band/apple. it is a genuine problem i encounter when reading (or hearing people talk about) the breakup and the years that followed. i understand that legality and finance are not fun, but for me, it is essential to fully grasp the fracture in their relationships. even paul has mentioned how he and john couldn't talk about business without it ending in a screaming match.

legal proceedings and business deals help set dates and, with that, inform the members' actions and reactions. of course, the emotional side of the breakup is important, but ever since they were young, they mentioned how becoming rich was a big motivation so why wouldn't it matter in their undoing? it was also why john became interested in allen klein!

i find that what was done business-wise and then what was used in court as "evidence" should not be dismissed as not as important in comparison to emotionally biased theories. (not that these are unimportant, but money can, and has, made and broken relationships) because of this, it can become difficult to find resources on their legal and financial issues without them becoming a footnote or oversimplified.

i agree that tumblr is not the place to find these resources or convos, so this is me pleading with you and anyone if you have an idea where to do so.

While I said that stuff shouldn't be dismissed, I want to clarify that I don't actually consider myself an expert on it and also think it's not been super widely covered, because the bias towards emotional aspect excludes neither me nor wider Beatles authorship.

To my knowledge, your best bet is the book You Never Give Me Your Money by Peter Doggett, which tries to provide a full overview of the entire legal and financial proceedings of the breakup. Also perhaps check out Peter Brown's book from this year, All You Need Is Love, which includes interview excerpts describing some of the business stuff.

Le había escrito a Peter para que le avisara a los demás, no había dicho todo, sólo lo esencial ya que quería decirles en persona y mostrar las pruebas.

Más no creyó que sería tan pronto. Se sentía triste por la destrucción de su anillo de compromiso y sintió vergüenza de que su prometido y amigos le vieran con el pelo corto, se lo había arreglado él mismo pero no acostumbraba a tenerlo a esa altura - Está abierto - dijo en un tono suficiente alto para que le escucharan. Ok I don’t know why and maybe it’s just me, but I honest to god do not care that much about the editing choices in Get Back that cobble conversations together and show alternate footage. I just don’t think any of the editing decisions deeply misconstrue what is happening. The alternate footage thing I just kind of accepted from the get go and never really bugged me. The cobbled together conversations are slightly more annoying. The worst example is probably the lunchroom tape, and even that I don’t think fundamentally changes THAT much?* The doc is trying to give an accurate portrayal of what happened at large and I believe it succeeds in that mission. I don’t expect it to be more than the cliff notes of what actually happened, and it’s a damn good cliff notes in my opinion. The nagras (and multiple other resources) are still there for historians to use. My only wish is for Peter Jackson to release cleaned up audio (and video footage?) as a sort of official bootleg? What a boon for historians that would be. I doubt Apple would allow that though.

*I guess this must bug me more than I admit to myself though because I have already written multiple drafts of a letter asking PJ to release the full lunchroom tape with audio all cleaned up as a special exclusive bonus episode. You know, “pay $5 to see the full unedited private conversation on the day George left the Beatles!” A thirty minute or so bonus episode is the perfect length and it has such a strong draw. It may be longer though cause sometimes two conversations are happening at once so maybe you would need to put those separately if the audio could be extracted? And PJ already essentially admitted to the full convo not just being John and Paul in the official Get Back book, so that may not be that big of a problem. I need to hand write it all out and find the correct address. Maybe we should all join in a letter writing campaign together lmao.

So here’s a long post about John and George’s rumored physical fight during the Get Back/LiB sessions brought to you by looking through Tune In: Extended Special Edition which has this bit about how John and George had “their only ever fight [in Hamburg]”:

“John and George had their only ever fight here. It happened in Chug-ou, when they were worn out from playing another six hours. George’s response to one of John’s pointed barbs was to pick up his plate of food and tip it over John’s head, a perilous act to inflict on the leader. John did the same in response, and they both sat there with food running down their backs” (706). Tune In: Extended Edition 

The “only fight” phrasing suggests that maybe Lewisohn was weighing in on the question of whether or not John and George ever came to blows during the Get Back/Let it Be sessions. The footnote makes things even more interesting because it shows that George told this story about them dumping food on one another shortly after there had been a newspaper report about his fight with John during Get Back/LiB: “George mentioned the squabble in an interview by David Wigg from Scene and Heard, BBC Radio 1, 4 March 1969.″ Was he thinking he needed to do damage control because of the article?

Wanted to put this, the Sulpy material, the newspaper article about the fight, a rough transcript of the conversation Sulpy reports, and George Martin’s (brief) take on it all in one place. Very interested to see how Peter Jackson and Lewisohn handle this! 

Doug Sulpy and Ray Schweighardt describe the reaction the the newspaper story about the fight on p. 206 of Get Back: The Unauthorized Chronicle of the Beatles Disaster (looks like they have this convo taking place on the 22nd of January, 1969, but other sites suggest Daydream/this convo happened the 21st)

It looks like maybe the “one instance” he and George are laughing about could be the dumping food on one another story? I’d always thought they were talking about Paul and Stu’s fight, but Lewisohn at least makes it seem like that particular fight wasn’t too funny.

Part-time Library Assistant Peter Parker sees Homeless Patron Wade Wilson come in every day to get out of the weather. He reads all day, uses the computer, but Peter notices he never borrows anything even though he's the first in the door in the morning and the last out at night. So Peter brings it up one day. 

He feels like he should feel awkward, starting a convo with a Patron, but despite the fact that Wade looks like he went one round too many with a house on fire, he's never been any sort of troublemaker, always polite, and makes Peter laugh.

So he asks why Wade doesn't borrow anything, and Wade brushes him off at first, saying he's not a reader, he's just here to see Peter's pretty face, but Peter asks again, serious. "Why don't you check anything out?"

"I don't have a library card," Wade admits.

"Well, that's an easy fix," Peter says. "I'll set you up one right now. Lemme grab the form, and I'll need your ID."

Wade's laugh is pained. "Its not like I didn't try. You require proof of address." He gestures to himself, unbathed and grimy. "I don't have one."

Peter frowns. "We take letters from shelters too. St. Paul's will give you one if you ask."

"I don't do shelters. Thanks for trying though," and he leaves that day, hours before close. Peter worries he won't come back, that he's scared Wade away from a place he feels safe.

But Wade does come back. He's at the door the next morning before opening, and leaves at close, like normal. And he returns the day after, and the day after that. He sits and reads. He surfs the net. He stands guard over his phone while it charges

He doesn't check out anything

A week passes, and Peter finds himself worrying over Wade, a man he sees every day but rarely interacts with, more than he probably should. Reading seems to make the man happy. His eyes brighten when he reads. 

Peter works at a library. That kind of shit makes him happy.

"You deserve a library card," Peter's mouth says one day as he unlocks the front door. 

Wade shrugs, unconcerned.

The next day he says, "I bet my boss could work something out," as he lets Wade in.

"Tough chance," Wade says, like what he actually means is: Tried that. Failed

At lunch Peter looks at his own Library Card. He doesn't use it a lot. He's lazy, and more often than not just looks himself up in the system when he goes to check something out. He taps the sharp edge of the card against his lower lip

"I've got a present for you," Peter says the next morning. "Wait for me?"

Wade looks suspicious but does as Peter asks, waiting off to the side as Peter let's everyone else in. When Peter is free he finds Wade watching him curiously.

Peter digs into his pocket and pulls out his library card. The gloss is chipped and peeling and his name is scrawled in faded sharpie on one side Peter Parker in a sloppier, younger version of his current handwriting.

He holds it out to Wade.

Wade doesn't take it.

"Take it," Peter urges when Wade doesn't respond.

Wade looks at Peter. 

Peter rolls his eyes. "I'm good for it,  I promise."

"Why?" Wade croaks, looking too too lost.

Peter shrugs, embarrassed. "I just, you're here every day. I see you pick up the same book til you finish it."

"So?" Wade challenges.

Peter shrugs again. "I see patrons who only check out something every few years. I see people who never check anything out. I have Patrons who destroy our books, or lose them. And they all get to keep their cards. Personal opinion, but you deserve one more"

"But to give me yours?" Wade questions. "Don't do that. I'll lose it. Or abuse it. I'll rack up fines."

"That just means you're using it. Go on, take it. I don't mind sharing."

Wade hesitantly takes the card. He looks at it with wide eyes before pressing it to his chest.

Won't you need it?" Wade asks, voice soft, his last bid at rejecting Peter's offer, that was belied by how close he was clutching the card.

"I'll make do," Peter says. "You seem to need it more," and quickly flees before Wade can change his mind and tries to give back the card

"God bless fucking Librarians," Peter hears Wade mutter with reverence and can’t help but quirk a smile.

Maybe someday he’ll even let the man know that no, Peter isn't a Librarian.

It is more expensive to be poor

Everyone who has had a fat savings account for a while or for your whole life. You might not remember or know how expensive being poor is.

Being poor =

- everything on credit. Because a savings account doesn't exist. Because there isn't actually enough money. Ever.

- robbing Peter to pay Paul = bank fees etc. Again, there is never enough money. It isn't about poor budgeting. There is no budget when 1 +1 =0.

- not having access to medical, dental, and/or mental health care. IF they have insurance it has a high deductible. See other points as to why they can't go to the fucking doctor. (I haven't been back to spine surgeon for follow up because...bill) (son doesn't have a psychiatrist because....bill)

- no, realistic, medical access = higher rates of drug use and crime.

- higher arrest rates = higher prison sentences because what poor person has 3-5k for a fucking lawyer. I mean if i was a rich white boy who might have raped a drunk girl i could just pay my way out.

Instead. Poor (and minority makes this convo 1,000 times worse.) Means the good ole over worked public defender. The person who doesn't look at files before court day. Who comes in with a stack of 10+ folders on court day. Sits down, reads, calls for a person, If they are there early then woohoo they might get 5 min of legal advice.

This part will self destruct. I am currently poor. My son is currently in jail for stupidity and currently facing a min of 5 years in prison. He was with a group, they drove to Colorado (where marijuana is legal) and got pulled over 1.5 hr away from home. For some reason he was the only one in the car that is in jail. He wasn't the driver. Wasn't the car owner. Yes he needs to answer for being stupid. I just can't see how prison ever helps stupid. Oh, because it does NOT!

Remember how privileged you are if you are not poor.
