De Algemene Verwarring #113 - 27 May 2024
Episode one hundred and thirteen of De Algemene Verwarring was broadcast on Monday, May 27, 2024, and you can listen to it by clicking on the link below that will take you directly to the Mixcloud page:
Pictured below are Crystal Stilts, band from Brooklyn, New York, who released three albums between 2008 and 2013, two on Slumberland Records and the last one on Sacred Bones Records, and then they disappeared. I saw them live just once in Ghent, in a club where a band like Crystal Stilts doesn't fit but still it was a magnificent gig. They played some kind of dark power garage pop, with edgy Velvet Underground guitars and a singer who sounded like a miserable Jim Reid. In those days. there were a lot of that kind of lo-fi fuzzpop bands such as Blank Dogs, Intelligence, Vivian Girls, The Pink Noise, and so on, but somehow I keep coming back to Crystal Stilts because they sound a lot more timeless than their contemporaries. Three much loved records at De Algemene Verwarring headquarters, and let's not forget the Love Is A Wave and Shake The Shackles singles.
Apologies again for the late update, by the way. I don't seem to get into my normale scheme anymore. Anyway there's also some new music in this episode from Exek, 番長 Taste, Sewer Election, Demeters Döttrar and Lise Barkas/Lisa Kaüffert, and old rockers from The Cramps, Les Olivensteins, Chrys Alice, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Siglo XX, Litovsk, Lizzy Mercier Descloux, and more. And beneath the photo you can find the playlist for this show.

GRIT New EP ‘DIAMOND’ Out Soon
Earlier this year we released Dublin’s punk/Oi band GRIT – S/T 7″ under the name Distr-Oi! Records and now this summer we are happy to announce that we will go a second round with GRIT with their ‘Diamond’ EP
‘Diamond’ will see GRIT swinging a couple of more hooks off their ‘Ghost Estate’ Demo all of which could not fit on the S/T 7″ EP, so we are taking the remaining two tracks off ‘Ghost Estates’, ‘Pauline’ and ‘Nowhere Else’ and adding in two more bangers to complete ‘Diamond’ For those unfamiliar with Dublins GRIT, this is Oi! influence melodic punk that is catchy as hell as GRIT take influence from the likes of Camera Silens, Blitz and Syndrome 81 in sounds with Clodagh laying over vocals that have been compared multiple times to Preying Hands. With tracks dealing social and political struggles, loyalty and friendship GRIT are here with something to say and its hard not to listen.
‘Diamond’ was recorded at the Hive with James Eager(Bacchus) and artwork by Two Headed Dog. This release will come out on black vinyl and limited colour edition of solid red. Released by Distr-Oi!, Contraszt! Records, Visions Of Warning, Ultra Peace ‎and Pumpkin Records later this summer.

New STREET EATERS in stock! A truewave/punk band from Berkeley+Oakland, CA that has drawn a range of sonic comparisons to bands from The Ex to Masshysteri, Autoclave to Drive Like Jehu, Wipers to Burning Kitchen to KARP. After years of relentless international touring on the heels of their well-received album "Blood::Muscles::Bones" (released on Nervous Intent in the U.S./Contraszt! in Europe), the band dove deeply into their recording studio to create a new record with an expansive new vision - "The Envoy" is a concept album based on dystopian sci-fi powerhouse author Ursula K. LeGuin's books "The Dispossessed" and "Left Hand of Darkness". The songs are interspersed with instrumental interludes layering field recordings, planetary oscillations, comets, glaciers cracking, sea lions using tonal underwater sonar, a modded kids' karaoke box, heavily processed/delayed/bowed bass guitar, and more. Songs are at the heart of the album and keep the momentum and energy of the album high. The album's cover art is by Miriam Stahl, best-selling illustrator of the "Rad American Women A-Z" and "Rad Women Worldwide" books. Listen / order at http://deadtankrecords.com

De Algemene Verwarring #31 - 31 August 2020
The thirty-first episode of De Algemene Verwarring was broadcast on Monday August 31, 2020, on the last day of the summer holidays, and you can listen to it by clicking on the Mixcloud widget below. And if that does not work, here’s the direct link to the Mixcloud page:
https://www.mixcloud.com/MedialabKortrijk/de-algemene-verwarring-31-31-augustus-2020/
Pictured below is Spanish band Melenas. They come from Pamplona, they have a new album out that was picked up by Trouble In Mind records, and they are my summer band. Girl pop, you know I do like it from time to time, and even if it was only last week that I was able to buy the LP, Melenas are my summer 2020 band. I started episode #31 of my radio show with a track from their new Album “Dias Raros”. However, other music I played in this episode is a little less summery and a little more gloomy and melancholic. Because yes it is the end of a pandemic summer and it is the beginning of a new working week for myself, so needless to say that I wasn’t very happy.  Most of the music played in the show are recent acquisitions, but as you know I buy a lot of old music too, so don’t expect too much new releases. Some of the other bands I played are Public Service, Public Eye, Infinite Void, Die Kreuzen, The Psychedelic Furs, Couteau Latex, Fuzzbox, Digital Leather and Oroskällan. And beneath the photo you can find the playlist for this show. Enjoy!

GRIT -S/T 7″ Pre-Orders Up Now
GRIT vinyl debut 7″ taken off their excellent demo ‘Ghost Estates’ is now up for pre-order through our webshop to get your copy on release date.
Coming out on Distr-Oi Records(Aka Distro-y), Contraszt! Records (Germany), Visions Of Warning (Northern Ireland) and Ultra Peace Records (Canada) it will also be available through our new offical distributors Plastic Head Distribution (UK) so get your local record shop to order in copies. GRIT – S/T 7″ will be out on 17/02/2017.
Dublin gritty melodic punks GRIT are gathering pace fast despite their short existence, having hooked the punk scene with their catchy 6 track demo.GRIT have seemingly came out of nowhere, with members of GRIT more known for their crust/hardcore punk bands of the past. With a sound resembling certain predecessors of early European hardcore punk with a slight oi! vibe. GRITs socially charged female fronted straight-up punk rock that hits hard standing parallel with earlier punk of the late ’70s or early ’80s. Sharp cutting punk riffs driven by powerful beats with plenty of melody in vocals carried on a bed of choruses which ‘ouuhs’ and ‘aaahs’ in the background. The call for ‘Ghost Estates’ to be pressed in wax was clear and loud. With the demo being split into two subsequent releases from the online demo, with ‘Ghost Estates’ seeing 4 tracks of the demo and an equally anticipated follow up 7” with additional tracks to be out summer 2017. Challenging the predominantly male narrative of Oi!/punk in general, GRIT’s visceral disgust at the state of Irish society is not so much a breath of fresh air as a much-needed fist to the face.

JUNGBLUTH / CALLOW split 7" out March 1st.
JUNGBLUTH / CALLOW - split 7" EP Preorder starts: February 18th Release-Date: March 1st 100 transparent blue vinyl 200 white vinyl 700 black vinyl I am excited to announce that this March HYDROGEN MAN RECORDS will be releasing a split 7” between CALLOW from Philadelphia and JUNGBLUTH from Germany. Originally planned and announced as a release in summer 2013, this release is finally coming out through the shared effort of MIDDLE MAN (US) and CONTRASZT! (Europe). CALLOW play a blend of intense emotional hardcore with powerful delivery, mixing subtle elements of darker and heavier bands like CURSED and CONVERGE. They are a relatively new melodic hardcore punk band originally from Boston, MA who now reside in Philadelphia, PA. The band shares members with Boston hardcore act LOVECHILD (and former members of CERCE) and released their debut seven song EP “Disappear Here” on a cassette with the help of IT’S A TRAP! RECORDS. JUNGBLUTH is a three-piece hardcore punk band from Munster, Germany. Featuring former members of ALPINIST, they sold out of the first and second pressing on their S/T demo CS and recently released a full length LP. "Emotional intensity meeting the toughness of old school hardcore, and the wafty soundscapes of post-rock, it seems as though JUNGBLUTH is carving out their own niche in a scene that has too many genres to even list." - CVLT NATION. Pressed with three different color options (black, solid white, and transparent blue vinyl) this release is out of 1000 and will be available for pre-order beginning February 18th. Out March 1st. More info on CALLOW here: http://www.wearecallow.blogspot.com More info on JUNGBLUTH here: http://www.facebook.com/Jungbluthpunx More info on this release on Hydrogen Man Records - http://www.hydrogenmanrecords.com.
