My brain has really been thinking about a SB-esque game with Fire Performer Solar in his arena. Specifically imagining a 3rd person cutscene of the POV character breaking into the lighting/sound area for the show, with a window looking directly into the seemingly empty sandpit. However they trigger the security system and see FP Solar emerge from the sand and slowly look towards the window while the POV character just throws themselves to the ground to maybe not be spotted

How Can I Secure My Construction Site at Night?
Securing a construction site is not just about protecting materials and equipment; it's about ensuring the safety of everyone involved. As someone who has navigated the challenges of construction site security, I understand the concerns that come with leaving a site unattended at night. Let's explore how you can effectively safeguard your construction site after hours.
Tumblr media
Why Construction Site Security Matters
Imagine this: it's a calm night, and your construction site is quiet, with expensive equipment, tools, and materials left behind after a busy day. Suddenly, an intruder sneaks in. Theft, vandalism, or even safety hazards could derail your entire project timeline and budget. As someone managing a construction site, this is a nightmare scenario. But here’s the good news—you can take control.
Ensuring the safety of your construction site is not just about protecting your assets; it’s about maintaining peace of mind and ensuring smooth operations. The question is, how can you secure your construction site effectively, especially at night?
Let’s walk through a simple, effective guide to keeping your site safe, and how video surveillance systems play a key role in providing the protection you need.
The Risks Your Construction Site Faces at Night
A construction site is a prime target for theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access. Why?
Valuable Equipment and Materials: Tools, machinery, and materials can be resold, making them attractive to thieves.
Unmonitored Areas: Construction sites often cover large spaces, with multiple blind spots.
Safety Hazards: Intruders can harm themselves or create safety risks for workers returning the next day.
Without proper security measures, you could be exposing your project to unnecessary delays and financial losses.
The Solution: A Reliable Construction Site Security System
The best way to protect your construction site is with a modern outdoor surveillance system. Here's how it works and why it’s essential:
1. Construction Site Security Cameras for 24/7 Monitoring
Strategically placed cameras provide continuous monitoring. With advanced features like motion detection and night vision, they can track every movement on your site.
Benefit: You’ll have eyes on your site even when you’re not there.
2. Video Surveillance for Construction Sites
Video surveillance isn’t just about recording events. It’s about prevention. Visible cameras deter potential intruders, while recorded footage provides evidence if something does happen.
Benefit: Prevent issues before they occur, and have proof if they do.
3. Remote Access and Alerts
Modern security systems allow you to monitor your site from anywhere using your smartphone or computer. Receive instant alerts if suspicious activity is detected.
Benefit: Stay connected to your site, no matter where you are.
How to Choose the Right Outdoor Surveillance System
When selecting a security system for your construction site, look for these key features:
Durability: Outdoor cameras must withstand weather conditions like rain, wind, and extreme temperatures.
Night Vision: Clear visuals even in complete darkness are non-negotiable.
Custom Coverage: Ensure cameras are positioned to cover all critical areas, including entrances, storage areas, and perimeters.
Remote Monitoring: Opt for systems that allow you to check in on your site anytime, anywhere.
When choosing a security system for your construction site, prioritize key features like durability, night vision, custom coverage, and remote monitoring. The Defender Outdoor Surveillance System is a strong choice, offering weather-resistant cameras, advanced night vision, and remote access through an easy-to-use app. These features ensure reliable, real-time monitoring of critical areas, making it an ideal solution for construction site security.

"In Sacramento, California, an estimated 6,615 people are experiencing homelessness, a number that — while still heartbreakingly high — has declined 29% since 2023, according to the latest Point In Time counts.
But a new project, which has been in the works since 2022, might bring that number down even lower.
A new 13-acre property purchased by Sacramento County will soon be home to the Watt Service Center and Safe Stay.
Tumblr media
The county broke ground on the mixed-use service center this week, which will provide shelter, emergency respite, safe parking, health services, and more to community members who are unsheltered — meaning they don’t have a place to safely sleep at night.
“We wanted to do something that is not only larger, but a large-scale campus to provide more than just the shelter,” Janna Haynes, of the county’s Department of Homeless Services and Housing, told KCRA3 News.
The Watt Service Center will have amenities to help meet the needs of anyone staying there, including bathrooms, showers, laundry, and food, as well as mental health, treatment, and employment services.
“You can also meet with your case manager, get behavior health services, look for a job, get rehousing services, a place for your dog,” Jaynes added. “It’s really everything you need, not only for your day-to-day life, but to hopefully end your homelessness.”
While the center is a costly offering, the city explained that it is ultimately less expensive than allowing the homelessness crisis to go unmitigated.
The land was purchased for $22 million and will cost an estimated $42 million to construct the center. According to ABC10 News it will be mostly funded by the American Rescue Plan Act.
While the center will have the capacity to host 225 beds in Safe Stay cabins, 50-person capacity in Safe Parking, and 75-person capacity for emergency/weather respite beds, it will serve countless others outside of the 350 total people it can house at any given time.
Tumblr media
According to a press release from the county, “conservative estimates” have found that over the course of 15 years, the center will serve 18,000 people.
In 2017, the city found that the average cost for an “unsheltered individual” was about $45,000 a year, considering public systems like county jail, shelters, behavioral health, and more.
With the projected impact of the shelter, that cost lowers to less than $3,600 per person.
“If you break down the funding, it’s actually not that expensive,” Rich Desmond, county supervisor for District 3, told ABC10.
“It’s a heck of a lot cheaper than letting someone stay out in the community, unsheltered where they are extremely expensive in terms of the emergency response from fire, our emergency rooms, our law enforcement response.”
Providing what the county calls “wraparound services” not only brings down costs but truly helps people meet their basic needs.
“The really great thing about this site in particular, that we don't have at any other shelters, is the sheer size and the ability to really wrap everything people need,” Emily Halcon, director of the Department of Homeless Services and Housing with Sacramento County, told ABC10.
One notable feature is the center’s Safe Parking spaces, which are the first of their kind in the city. People living in their cars will now have a safe place to park, monitored by security.
“We know a lot of people who are unsheltered actually are living out of their cars,” Desmond said, “maybe a family that’s barely hanging on but they still need that vital transportation to get their kids to school or get to work.”
This support is especially helpful for those who are newly homeless, Halcon added, building on the amenities provided in the county’s two other “safe stay” facilities.
While Sacramento County just broke ground on the Watt Service Center, officials say they hope to begin moving people into the facility in January 2026.
“Our staff is putting in extra time and attention to this campus, ensuring that it houses everything we need to end homelessness for people,” Desmond said in a statement.
Once it’s up and running, Jaynes told KCRA3, they plan to onboard formerly unhoused community members as part of the staff at the facility.
“When you have a conversation with someone who understands where you’ve been, and you see the success they’re having now,” Jaynes said, “it really does give you hope something could be different.”

Swing Barrier Turnstile is generally called a slap door in the rail transit market. Its barrier body (gate pendulum) remains in the type of a plane with a specific location, perpendicular to the ground, and swings through rotation Implement obstructing and release. The products of the blocking body are typically stainless-steel, natural glass, and tempered glass. Some likewise utilize metal plates covered with special versatile materials (to minimize the damage triggered by striking pedestrians). Bridge Smart Swing Door Turnstile The more popular name has been acquired from the initial bridge-shaped structure. It consists of a primary chassis and two movable swing bars. The swing bars can swing 180 ° or 90 ° to accomplish the function of dissuading or releasing. Column Swing Gate The look of the main equipment remains in the type of a column, which can carry out the very same functions as the bridge type Swing Barrier Turnstile. It is identified by lower expense and less area. RS Security Co., Ltd Main Products: tripod turnstile gate, flap turnstile, complete height gate, swing gate, hydraulic bollard, road blocker, gain access to control, face recognition, barrier gate and so on. Application of Swing Door Gate It is primarily utilized for passage entrance and exit management. Typically, only people are allowed to travel through, or individuals dragging travel luggage, and handicapped individuals. Thinking about that Swing Barrier Turnstile can accomplish larger channel qualities than wing gates. Most Swing Gate Turnstile passages can be blended with pedestrians, bicycles, mopeds, handicapped automobiles and other non-motorized automobiles. component Swing Door Gate structural composition: Swing Gate Turnstile includes chassis, movement, swing arm, control system, infrared sensing unit, It includes control devices and other parts. High-end brake Swing Gate Turnstile includes: chassis, brake movement, control system, infrared sensor, control devices and other parts (high-end brake Swing Door Gate is that it can stop quickly and smoothly, there is no shaking, no mechanical stuck structure, and the swing arm immediately opens after power failure. THE BLEEDING, BEATING HEART
Tumblr media
pairing: yelena belova x reader (requested)

Tumblr media
It was early, too early to be awake, but your mind decided to wake long before your body was ready to take on the day. With a groan, you forced yourself out of bed and dragged yourself to the kitchen of the Watchtower, desperate for a mug of coffee.
It was a rare day off for the team, as long as no major threats decided to sweep in, so you believed everyone to still be sleeping until you noticed a pot of coffee already made and at least two cups missing.
No one was in the kitchen or the living room. Curious as to who was awake at such an early hour, you quietly made your way through the spots in the tower where anyone else could have been. Landing outside the training room, which was still half under construction, you heard repetitive grunts in time with hits on one of the punching bags.
Stepping inside, holding the warm mug of coffee between your hands, you spotted Yelena. She was wide awake, dressed in her training gear, and a good while into her set. Her blonde hair was slicked back and sweat beaded her forehead.
“Yelena,” you called out. She stopped, holding her balled fists at her chest. “This doesn’t look like taking a day off.”
She rolled her eyes playfully. “I’m relaxing.”
You raised your brows, stepping closer to her. “You seem awfully tense, actually.” It looked as if her whole body was pulled like a rubber band waiting to be snapped. You had noticed her odd behavior for the past week, but you had chalked it up to the shit-show that was the latest mission.
As the ‘woman in the chair,’ you weren’t on site for their missions, but rather managing comms, taking down intel, and acting as their eyes from above if you were able to hack your way into a security system. Even without being on site, you knew the mission hadn’t gone as everyone had hoped. It was messy, dangerous, and almost resulted in major injuries if it hadn’t been for the team's watchful eye for one another. Despite the mission being completed and deemed a technical success, when they arrived home, you knew their mistakes and missteps weighed on them. You especially saw it in Yelena.
Yelena huffed, dropping her hands at her sides before grabbing a towel to wipe the sweat from her face. “You know, I could ask you the same question. Why are you awake?”
“Well, I thought it was because my mind refuses to shut off for too many hours, but now I’m thinking it was gut telling me to check up on you.”
“I don’t need to be checked up on,” Yelena said, turning her back to you as she rummaged through her training bag for a water bottle.
If it had been months prior, you would have let her be after that, but you had grown to know Yelena over your time spent living at the tower together. She was impossibly tough, but there was a softness that wasn’t often taken care of and overlooked by other herself and everyone else. But you saw it, a little weakness that made her human, much to her dismay.
You placed a hand on her shoulder, half expecting her to shrug you off, but she didn’t. Instead, she turned around to face you and hung her head. “Fine,” she muttered. “I screwed up. I made a bad call during the mission, and I…I don’t know what I was thinking, but now I can’t think of anything else. Okay? Happy?” She fell back on the bench, and you followed, sitting beside her with enough space between you so as to not make her feel suffocated.
“You’re not perfect, Yelena. No one is. You made a call that you thought was right, and it wasn’t,” you said. “It happens. It’ll probably happen again, but the important thing is you realized it and you corrected it.”
“Yeah, but not before Walker took a bullet in the arm,” Yelena sighed, fidgeting with her hands in her lap. “They looked to me to take the call, and I…I let them down. I don’t know how to do this.”
You furrowed your brows, watching her intently. “Do what?”
She didn’t meet your gaze but rather kept her focus forward. “Work as a team. I’ve been on my own, doing missions on my own for so long. Reporting to someone else is one thing, but being the one others look at to make decisions is pressure I don’t know if I can handle. Why me? Why do they look to me?”
Despite the hurt that her words drew, you smiled softly, itching to reach out for her but refraining. Yelena was a complicated person with an even more complicated past. You didn’t want to push her, even if you ached to hold her hand, hug her, even brush some loose strands of hair behind her ear.
“Probably for the same reason the Avengers looked at your sister during the Blip.”
Yelena snapped her attention onto you, startled and confused. You had been there during the Blip, when the disbanded team crawled back together. It was Nastasha who called you in, once having you aid in undercover missions when you were a fresh-faced S.H.I.E.L.D operative who had a hunch something darker was going on within the organization. You had been young, inexperienced in the world of super-powered humans, betrayal, and complicated politics, but you had helped regardless, getting yourself in a fair amount of trouble. You had been lying low when the Blip happened, only to find Nastasha at your front door asking you if you wanted to help save the universe.
You couldn’t give much, but you had nothing else to lose or to do. You watched the Avengers and company bring everyone back, only to lose Natasha and others in the process.
“Steve had said, even before then, that your sister was the heart of the Avengers. The bleeding, beating heart. I think you, Yelena, are so much like her.” You turned toward her, bumping your knees against hers. “You’re the heart of this team; that’s why they look to you.”
Many emotions flickered across Yelena’s face, but she landed on a glossy-eyed gaze with her lips pointed downwards in a frown. My sister was a hero. She helped save the universe. I could hardly lead the team through a standard intel removal.”
“Everyone else seems to think you’re a hero.”
She laughed humorlessly, looking up at the light like she was trying to prevent any tears from leaking out. “Because Valentina set us up so we wouldn’t kill her right there on the street.”
“Fair, but that was after you guys saved Bob and the city. That sounds like a hero to me,” you said. “This team trusts you because they can see what I see. What the Avengers saw in your sister, they see it in you.”
Yelena’s head tipped down, a few tears falling with it. She grumbled under her breath and wiped her cheeks. “Shit. You cannot say things that make me cry this early.”
With a hesitant hand, you softly squeezed Yelena’s knee. She stared at it for a moment before letting herself linger in her feelings a little longer. She leaned in and wrapped her arms around you, her head falling onto your shoulder. You hugged her back tightly.
“Maybe you should start doing the pep talks before missions instead of Alexei,” Yelena mumbled into your shoulder, tired body heavy against yours.
You snorted out a laugh. “Yeah, you try telling him that.”

CONFIDENTIAL LOGISTICS REPORT
DRC, Planning & Evaluation Office, Logistics & Infrastructure Division
Date: [REDACTED]
To: Director [REDACTED]
From: Administrator [REDACTED], Logistics & Infrastructure Division
Subject: Facility Expansion: New Paternity Compound Construction
Executive Summary
This report outlines the ongoing expansion of DRC-operated paternity compounds across several strategic locations nationwide. In response to increasing insemination rates and projected surrogacy demands, we have begun constructing new high-capacity compounds to accommodate more surrogates. These expansions will enable the DRC to streamline the conscription process, optimize surrogacy cycles, and ensure our ability to meet the population sustainability targets outlined for the next fiscal period.
The new compounds focus on enhanced security, specialized medical equipment, and increased surrogacy capacity.
I. Facility Expansion Overview
Strategic Locations and Site Selection
To ensure regional coverage and minimize travel time to detain and inseminated surrogates, the DRC has approved the construction of [REDACTED] new paternity compounds in FEMA Zones 4, 6, 7, and 8. These facilities will be situated in [REDACTED] areas, selected for their proximity to population centers, existing transport infrastructure, and relative isolation, ensuring operational security.
Zone 4: Atlanta, GA
Zone 6: Houston, TX
Zone 7: Omaha, NE
Zone 8: Denver, CO
Each compound is designed to accommodate [REDACTED] surrogates at any given time, with the ability to scale up to [REDACTED] in emergencies. Construction is scheduled for completion within the next [REDACTED] months, with the first inspections set to begin by [REDACTED] this year.
Paternity Compound Design Features:
High-Capacity Paternity Wards: Each compound contains specialized wards designed to manage surrogates carrying up to sedecatuplets (16), with private rooms for those at risk of premature labor.
Enhanced Monitoring Systems: Advanced surveillance and biometric monitoring ensure constant oversight and swift response to emergencies.
Security Enhancements: Reinforced containment protocols, secure access points, and patrol routes have been established to prevent unauthorized access and ensure surrogate compliance.
II. Specialized Equipment and Medical Support
Given the unique demands and expectations placed on surrogates, each paternity compound will be equipped with advanced medical infrastructure to ensure the safety and effective management of extreme weight gain, reduced mobility, and increased risks of organ stress.
Key Equipment and Infrastructure:
Reinforced Support Beds: Traditional hospital beds have proven insufficient for surrogates carrying high multiples, whose pregnancies can lead to total weight gains exceeding 200 lbs. Each ward will feature reinforced, adjustable support beds capable of accommodating extreme weights. These beds will be equipped with pressure-relief systems to minimize discomfort and reduce the risk of bedsores for near-immobile surrogates.
“I hate that I’m here! But… all I have is this bed! I can’t move, I can’t breathe half the time, but at least I have a fucking memory foam mattress!” - Surrogate S118-176-J, 27 days pregnant with decatuplets (10)
Automated Feeding & Hydration Systems: Automated systems will ensure continuous nutrition and hydration to support surrogates with reduced mobility. Given the caloric intake requirements for such pregnancies, these systems will monitor and adjust fluid and nutrient delivery, reducing the need for frequent staff intervention.
“I’m basically just a machine now, aren’t I? They hook me up, pump me full of these stupid protein shakes, and keep me breathing so I can keep carrying these bowling ball-sized kids. It’s disgusting!” - Surrogate S117-138-N, 18 days pregnant with quattuordecatuplets (14)
Custom Mobility Aids: Custom-designed lift systems and mobility aids will be integrated into each ward to facilitate the movement of surrogates. These devices will allow for safe repositioning, transfers to specialized birthing chairs, and support during transport.
“I don’t know how they expect us to move with this much weight on us. Even standing feels like my legs are going to snap. Those lifts? They’re humiliating... but without them, I wouldn’t be able to get out of bed at all.” - Surrogate S120-494-P, 30 days into a sedecatuplets (16) pregnancy
Advanced Fetal Monitoring: Each compound will have real-time ultrasound and biometric monitoring stations to track fetal development. Given the accelerated gestational period, these systems will continuously update fetal positioning, size, and viability, enabling rapid response to complications.
"It’s terrifying. Knowing how big they are, how many there are… they’re not coming out normal. When I finally pop them all out, they’ll get better care than I ever did!" - Surrogate S119-667-N, 22 days pregnant with hendecatuplets (14)
Dedicated Obstetrics & Neonatal Care Units: Immediate neonatal care is essential, and each compound will include state-of-the-art neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) to support newborns. Advanced incubators and respiratory support systems will ensure the survival of even the most premature babies.
"They always tell me how important it is to ensure the babies survive, even if I don’t. I get it, I do… but knowing there’s a whole team of people ready to take over the second I’m gone? It’s like they’ve already decided how this ends." - Surrogate S117-856-M, 8 days pregnant with tridecatuplets (13)
Pain Management and Sedation Systems: Surrogates will experience extreme discomfort and physical strain. Each paternity ward will be equipped with integrated IV pain management systems, allowing for both localized and systemic pain relief. Sedation protocols can be initiated remotely if a surrogate's distress becomes vocal, ensuring they can not incite civil disorder.
“I’m so big I can’t even see my dick, which is now buried under all these babies and fat. I’d be lying if I said the meds didn't help to blitz me out of my mind... a caring them I'm a gigantic incubator now.” - Surrogate S119-461-L, 11 days pregnant with dodecatuplets (12)
Future Equipment Developments: Research teams are exploring next-generation mobility aids, including exoskeleton support harnesses, to provide mobility assistance for late-term surrogates. These innovations aim to improve surrogate survival to deliver full-term pregnancies. Once available, prototypes will be tested in select compounds.
III. Expansion Strategy: Future Projections and Scaling
Projected Surrogacy Demand: With the increase in insemination rates, each compound is expected to handle up to [REDACTED] inseminations per month once fully operational. This translates to a need for approximately [REDACTED] newborns annually to meet population sustainability targets. Our current projections indicate that these numbers are achievable.
IV. Conclusion and Recommendations
The successful construction and operation of these new paternity compounds are critical to effectively maintaining the DRC’s ability to enforce surrogacy mandates. Our specialized equipment and infrastructure improvements will ensure we meet demands while preserving control over our surrogate.

Dear Mr. [REDACTED],
I’ve reviewed the latest progress report on the new Paternity Compounds, and I must commend your team on the impressive strides made thus far, even with the ambitious timeline we’ve set.
I have been particularly interested in the improvements to our birthing suites. As you are well aware, managing multiple pregnancies presents unique challenges.
We are entering a critical phase. I want to emphasize that these upcoming births will set a precedent for all future operations. The successful use of these new facilities will allow us to demonstrate that our methods ensure the next generation's survival and that we can handle the demands without sacrificing efficiency or outcomes.
I look forward to seeing the first results when the initial surrogates reach full term and the birthing suites are fully operational.
Keep up the excellent work, and do not hesitate to reach out if additional resources or support are needed to ensure success.
Regards, Director [REDACTED]

Kei Uzuki
You were the kind of person who got a glint in your eyes when knives were flying. The tighter the hallway, the louder the gunfire, the faster your heart raced—and Uzuki? He noticed.
Fascinated by you at first. Most people tremble when the air gets thick with violence, but you smile, calm and sharp as a blade’s edge.
You’re not a loud daredevil, but he sees the way you walk into danger without hesitation. When a mission goes sideways, you lean into it, eyes glittering. It makes his heart stutter.
“You know this is insane, right?” he murmurs, brushing blood off your cheek after a fight you picked for fun.
“It was fun,” you say, chest still rising from the rush. He doesn't disagree.
He tries to read you like a weapon, figure out where the trigger is, what makes you tick. But you’re always two steps ahead—jumping rooftops, riding motorcycles through enemy lines, smirking over your shoulder like you dare him to keep up.
When it’s just the two of you, quiet in a motel room or hiding out, he’ll ask: “Do you ever get scared?”
And you’ll answer honestly: “Only when it’s boring.”
It terrifies him, and he likes it.
Shishiba
He’s chill. You’re not. At least not in the way that lets you sit still.
You’re the type to take an assignment and add extra risk. “There was a shortcut if we went through the collapsing construction site,” you say. Shishiba just stares at you.
“You know you could’ve just taken the stairs.”
“Yeah, but where’s the fun in that?”
He pinches the bridge of his nose like he aged ten years in one sentence.
Lowkey lives for how you always make things unpredictable. He complains, but he never stops you. Even when you suggest “testing” the Order’s security systems by sneaking in “just for kicks.”
Deadpan lectures you. “If you die doing something stupid, I’m not picking up your body.”
But he’s always there when things go wrong. Always.
One time, you jumped out of a second-story window just because the ledge “looked fun.” When he caught you midair, grumbling about it, you kissed his cheek mid-fall. He didn’t drop you, but he did go silent for five whole minutes.
You keep him from getting too jaded. He keeps you from getting killed. It works.
Natsuki Seba
He’s a genius with nerves of steel, but your chaos still makes him sweat a little.
“Wait, you want to do what?”
“Break into the JAA HQ from the roof. For practice.”
“That’s not practice. That’s pre-suicidal behavior.”
He genuinely doesn’t know whether to admire you or lock you in a room for your own safety.
He watches you race toward danger like it’s a sport and mutters to himself, “We’re not getting out of this alive, are we?”
But your energy is contagious. He starts planning around your thrill-seeking habits. “Okay, if you have to climb that tower, wear this tracker so I can hack their systems if things go wrong.”
Gets a little bit addicted to the way your eyes shine when the adrenaline hits. The way you laugh—short and breathless—after sliding under a closing gate or dodging bullets by instinct.
Sometimes he joins you, heart pounding, breath hitching, your hand in his.
“Remind me why I let you talk me into this?”
“Because you love it. And me.”
He grins, breathless. “...Damn it. You’re right.”

Harlech Castle
Harlech Castle, located in North Wales, was first built by Edward I of England (r. 1272-1307 CE) from 1283 CE. Largely completed by 1290 CE, the castle received some further additions up to 1330 CE. A classic example of a concentric medieval castle, Harlech skilfully used local topography, the sea, and imposing towers to represent a formidable challenge to any attackers, as proven in the lengthy sieges of the Welsh rebellions and the Wars of the Roses during the turbulent 15th century CE. Harlech Castle is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
Edward I's Castle Building
From 1272 CE Edward I, the new king of England, conquered most of Wales and joined it with the county system present in England. Following the death of Llywelyn, the Prince of Wales, in 1282 CE, the only part of Wales which remained free was the wild mountainous north and here the king built several major castles which included Caernarfon Castle, Conwy Castle, and Harlech Castle. Work began on Harlech Castle in June 1283 CE, the vast team of labourers, masons, and craftsmen being supervised by Master James of Saint Georges (c. 1235-1308 CE), the experienced architect and engineer who had previously built castles in Europe and who would be involved in many of Edward's other Welsh castles.
As with any major castle, the choice of location would be the key to its chances of withstanding siege or attacks. Harlech was built on one of the most secure spots any castle was erected upon, sited on a rocky crag which rose straight out of the sea (today the sea has receded). There was also vital access to a small port or quay which meant that in times of trouble the castle could easily be supplied by boats (although one does not envy the porters who had to climb the 100+ steps with their heavy loads). The king visited the site in person to check progress over three days in August 1283 CE, and by the end of the first major building phase, he must have been happy with the results as he made Master James constable of the castle in 1290 CE, a position he would hold until 1293 CE.
Harlech would, by 1303 CE, eventually cost 8,184 pounds to construct (around $11 million today) but that was still a third cheaper than the cost of Caernarfon or Conwy. This is because the castle was both smaller and less ornate in its stonework and design. Even more significantly, the castle used local stone and so avoided the heavy costs of transportation of cumbersome materials. Another 400 pounds were spent on the castle between 1303 and 1330 CE.

@muses-inn asked: [💽]  There is only so much a SecUnit inside its transporter box can do when the company transporter's system suddenly suffers a critical failure during its landing maneuvers. The ship just came down like a meteorite instead. It is nothing close of a wonder that Murderbot didn't just perish like its unfortunate clients and their other equipment. Maybe it is thanks to having been inside its sturdy transport box. Its right leg hurts. Well, there are many other parts that hurt too, and it is leaking blood and fluids out of several places. Not good. It returns its full, slightly buzzing attention back to the human who witnessed the ship's crash, apparently. But is that horrified look on her face because of this situation or because of being in front of a SecUnit? It can't tell. Human expressions are a pain to read. - imminent critical failure - Uh Oh. Murderbot hates the prospect of being this vulnerable, confused and distressed right now. The fact that a part of its helmet is broken and half of its face is revealed doesn't help. At all. But it also struggles to maintain itself and to prevent a critical failure from happening. Shelter and recovery sounds better to it right now than having a critical failure out here. No, actually the prospect of both is terrifying, but... "I... need a place to recover." (For Emil's general Sci-Fi AU? I hope it works if I bring Murderbot just to her. I had to take a bit of a swing on this so it got a little lengthy ^^")
Where did bot-human constructs recover? A Med Bay? A workshop? Emil could probably tinker on it and figure its electronics out, but the organics would have died before she was even halfway done.
Med Bay it was then, and hoping for the best.
Sitting in a corner, while Caramel's Med Systems worked on the construct firmly strapped to the operating table - its armour taken off and discarded in another corner - Emil frowned more and more at the visuals from her scouting drones zipping all over the crash site.
She didn't know all that much about security constructs, but weren't they on a 'leash' so to speak? Unable to move outside of some pre-programmed range from their clients?
Emil had moved Caramel closer to the crash site to make sure it wouldn't get its systems fried while she tried to save it, but all the humans her drones could locate were dead.
Weren't they supposed to fry when their contractors died too? Was Emil's info wrong? Was there some survivor still buried in the rubble?
B-0R was there too - her quadruped, dog-shaped, but horse-sized bot with far more sensors than Emil's scouting drones - but he couldn't locate anyone alive either while going through the ship logs to find out what had happened.
How peculiar.
"Welcome back to the land of the living," she announced, when eventually the Med System picked on signs of it restarting. She sent one of her drones to hover over it, sending a view of its face, while she still sat sideways on the chair, legs dangling over the armrest with a pack of potato chips on her lap and the headset with a yellow eye shield covering half of her face.
"We have misery and suffering, but the food and entertainment aren't half as bad. Now-" she crunched a potato chip, sending the Med Bay a ping to further strengthen its firewalls and ready a drill to possibly staple it in place- "why did the ship crash?"
For all Emil knew, it could be this very construct's doing.

🚨EXCLUSIVE NEW DETAILS ABOUT THE PAGERS - A THREAD:
Just when you thought it couldn't get crazier, Reuters released brand new details about Mossad's brilliant pager operation against Hezbollah in September. I will break down the most important parts and the exciting moments.
Let's start with the construction of the pagers themselves. The explosive component, Pentaerythritol tetranitrate (otherwise known as PETN), did the most damage. Mossad technicians found a way to insert a very thin square sheet of PETN between two battery cells and a strip of highly flammable material to act as a detonator. This entire package was placed into a plastic sleeve, which was encapsulated in a metal case roughly the size of a matchbox.
When the command was given, the flammable strip generated a spark to light the detonator and trigger the PETN to explode. The explosives took away some of the battery's power, which Hezbollah noticed when the battery would drain faster than expected. However, they never put two and two together and continued to use and issue the devices.
The complexity of this construction is essential for one primary reason: without metal components like a standard detonator or wires, the explosive element was utterly undetectable by X-ray. Israel knew that upon receiving the pagers, Hezbollah would likely check them for tampering or explosives, which is precisely what happened. Using airport-style security scanners, Hezbollah did indeed check the pagers, but thanks to Mossad's ingenuity, the explosive was not detected.
Now we get to the really interesting part, which is the lengths the Mossad went to create a cover story for their ruse. The PETN battery pack that Mossad constructed had a label on it: LI-BT783, and this was an issue because that specific battery did not exist. The Mossad started by creating a custom model for the entire pager, AR-924. They approached a renowned Taiwanese brand, Gold Apollo, to add it to their catalog.
Hsu Ching-Kuang, the chairman of Gold Apollo, was approached by a former employee and her new boss named "Tom" to inquire about adding the model. Ching-Kuang said that while he wasn't impressed by the AR-924 when he saw it, he agreed to grant a license under the brand and add photos and a description of the product to his company's website, thus unknowingly establishing the legitimacy of the Mossad's pager.
In September 2023, a website named came online with the AR-924 listed as a product. The site was tied to a Hong Kong-based company, Apollo Systems HK, of which no record exists today. In late 2023, two additional online states came online with the LI-BT783 battery listed in their product list, amongst other legitimate units.
Users in two online forums discussing batteries even made posts about the LI-BT783 and the AR-924, praising its "great performance" and ruggedness for field use. When Hezbollah searched for a new pager, their procurement manager chose the AR-924. The salesperson who brokered the deal offered a "very inexpensive proposition" and continued reducing the price until the Hezbollah manager agreed.
In the wake of the explosions, Hezbollah launched an internal probe of what went wrong. However, the senior official leading the investigation, Nabil Kaouk, was himself killed in an Israeli strike just 11 days after the pagers went off. The internal investigation is supposedly still in progress...

"Over the past decade, the population of the critically endangered Siberian crane has increased by nearly 50%, according to the International Crane Foundation.
The foundation said the boost in the snowy-white Siberian crane’s (Leucogeranus leucogeranus) numbers is the result of efforts to secure the migratory bird’s stopover sites along its eastern flyway, or migratory route, between Russia and China.
“It is a wonderful feeling to have this Critically Endangered species thriving with such a strong comeback from near extinction,” Rich Beilfuss, president and CEO of the International Crane Foundation, told Mongabay by email.
The Siberian crane, known for its extremely long and arduous annual journeys, is one of the world’s rarest cranes. It’s western and central populations, which once bred in western Russia, then migrated to parts of Central Asia and India, is nearly extinct today.
Most Siberian cranes that remain belong to the eastern population, which migrates between northeastern Russia and China. By 2012, researchers estimated there were around 3,500-4,000 individuals left in this eastern population.
The latest bird counts from Russia and China suggest their numbers have nearly doubled to 7,000 individuals, Beilfuss said.
The recovery of the eastern flyway is heartening, he added, because the western flyway of the species “was lost due to over-hunting and the entire population is now concentrated in this one eastern flyway between Russia and China.”
The eastern population, too, has declined in the past due to the loss and degradation of its summer breeding and wintering grounds, as well as its stopover wetland habitats. The habitat losses are driven largely by climate change and human activities like the construction of dams.
To help the Siberian cranes along this flyway, the International Crane Foundation, with support from the Disney Conservation Fund, has been working with organizations in Russia and China over the past decade to identify and secure the wetlands the bird relies on, Beilfuss said.
In China, for instance, the foundation has collaborated with local partners at Lake Poyang, which supports nearly the entire wintering population of Siberian cranes and several other threatened waterbirds. Beilfuss said they’re managing the lake system in a way that ensures enough feeding areas for the cranes. Additionally, the organizations have been raising awareness about the threatened status of the species along the flyway, including school curriculums about the crane.
The Disney funding ended in late 2024. However, the International Crane Foundation will continue to work on Lake Poyang, Beilfuss said. This includes focusing on “restoring the natural habitat for cranes and managing enough safe agricultural land as refugia, developing a water level control and vegetation restoration plan for two sub-lakes within Poyang, and strengthening community engagement to reduce disturbances to cranes,” he said. “Still much to do to keep this species thriving!”"

A young entrepreneur who was among the earliest known recruiters for Elon Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has a new, related gig—and he’s hiring. Anthony Jancso, cofounder of AccelerateX, a government tech startup, is looking for technologists to work on a project that aims to have artificial intelligence perform tasks that are currently the responsibility of tens of thousands of federal workers.
Jancso, a former Palantir employee, wrote in a Slack with about 2000 Palantir alumni in it that he’s hiring for a “DOGE orthogonal project to design benchmarks and deploy AI agents across live workflows in federal agencies,” according to an April 21 post reviewed by WIRED. Agents are programs that can perform work autonomously.
“We’ve identified over 300 roles with almost full-process standardization, freeing up at least 70k FTEs for higher-impact work over the next year,” he continued, essentially claiming that tens of thousands of federal employees could see many aspects of their job automated and replaced by these AI agents. Workers for the project, he wrote, would be based on site in Washington, DC, and would not require a security clearance; it isn’t clear for whom they would work. Palantir did not respond to requests for comment.
The post was not well received. Eight people reacted with clown face emojis, three reacted with a custom emoji of a man licking a boot, two reacted with custom emoji of Joaquin Phoenix giving a thumbs down in the movie Gladiator, and three reacted with a custom emoji with the word “Fascist.” Three responded with a heart emoji.
“DOGE does not seem interested in finding ‘higher impact work’ for federal employees,” one person said in a comment that received 11 heart reactions. “You’re complicit in firing 70k federal employees and replacing them with shitty autocorrect.”
“Tbf we’re all going to be replaced with shitty autocorrect (written by chatgpt),” another person commented, which received one “+1” reaction.
“How ‘DOGE orthogonal’ is it? Like, does it still require Kremlin oversight?” another person said in a comment that received five reactions with a fire emoji. “Or do they just use your credentials to log in later?”
Got a Tip?Are you a current or former government employee who wants to talk about what's happening? We'd like to hear from you. Using a nonwork phone or computer, contact the reporter securely on Signal at carolinehaskins.61 and vittoria89.82.
AccelerateX was originally called AccelerateSF, which VentureBeat reported in 2023 had received support from OpenAI and Anthropic. In its earliest incarnation, AccelerateSF hosted a hackathon for AI developers aimed at using the technology to solve San Francisco’s social problems. According to a 2023 Mission Local story, for instance, Jancso proposed that using large language models to help businesses fill out permit forms to streamline the construction paperwork process might help drive down housing prices. (OpenAI did not respond to a request for comment. Anthropic spokesperson Danielle Ghiglieri tells WIRED that the company "never invested in AccelerateX/SF,” but did sponsor a hackathon AccelerateSF hosted in 2023 by providing free access to its API usage at a time when its Claude API “was still in beta.”)
In 2024, the mission pivoted, with the venture becoming known as AccelerateX. In a post on X announcing the change, the company posted, “Outdated tech is dragging down the US Government. Legacy vendors sell broken systems at increasingly steep prices. This hurts every American citizen.” AccelerateX did not respond to a request for comment.
According to sources with direct knowledge, Jancso disclosed that AccelerateX had signed a partnership agreement with Palantir in 2024. According to the LinkedIn of someone described as one of AccelerateX’s cofounders, Rachel Yee, the company looks to have received funding from OpenAI’s Converge 2 Accelerator. Another of AccelerateSF’s cofounders, Kay Sorin, now works for OpenAI, having joined the company several months after that hackathon. Sorin and Yee did not respond to requests for comment.
Jancso’s cofounder, Jordan Wick, a former Waymo engineer, has been an active member of DOGE, appearing at several agencies over the past few months, including the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, National Labor Relations Board, the Department of Labor, and the Department of Education. In 2023, Jancso attended a hackathon hosted by ScaleAI; WIRED found that another DOGE member, Ethan Shaotran, also attended the same hackathon.
Since its creation in the first days of the second Trump administration, DOGE has pushed the use of AI across agencies, even as it has sought to cut tens of thousands of federal jobs. At the Department of Veterans Affairs, a DOGE associate suggested using AI to write code for the agency’s website; at the General Services Administration, DOGE has rolled out the GSAi chatbot; the group has sought to automate the process of firing government employees with a tool called AutoRIF; and a DOGE operative at the Department of Housing and Urban Development is using AI tools to examine and propose changes to regulations. But experts say that deploying AI agents to do the work of 70,000 people would be tricky if not impossible.
A federal employee with knowledge of government contracting, who spoke to WIRED on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the press, says, “A lot of agencies have procedures that can differ widely based on their own rules and regulations, and so deploying AI agents across agencies at scale would likely be very difficult.”
Oren Etzioni, cofounder of the AI startup Vercept, says that while AI agents can be good at doing some things—like using an internet browser to conduct research—their outputs can still vary widely and be highly unreliable. For instance, customer service AI agents have invented nonexistent policies when trying to address user concerns. Even research, he says, requires a human to actually make sure what the AI is spitting out is correct.
“We want our government to be something that we can rely on, as opposed to something that is on the absolute bleeding edge,” says Etzioni. “We don't need it to be bureaucratic and slow, but if corporations haven't adopted this yet, is the government really where we want to be experimenting with the cutting edge AI?”
Etzioni says that AI agents are also not great 1-1 fits for job replacements. Rather, AI is able to do certain tasks or make others more efficient, but the idea that the technology could do the jobs of 70,000 employees would not be possible. “Unless you're using funny math,” he says, “no way.”
Jancso, first identified by WIRED in February, was one of the earliest recruiters for DOGE in the months before Donald Trump was inaugurated. In December, Jancso, who sources told WIRED said he had been recruited by Steve Davis, president of the Musk-founded Boring Company and a current member of DOGE, used the Palantir alumni group to recruit DOGE members. On December 2nd, 2024, he wrote, “I’m helping Elon’s team find tech talent for the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in the new admin. This is a historic opportunity to build an efficient government, and to cut the federal budget by 1/3. If you’re interested in playing a role in this mission, please reach out in the next few days.”
According to one source at SpaceX, who asked to remain anonymous as they are not authorized to speak to the press, Jancso appeared to be one of the DOGE members who worked out of the company’s DC office in the days before inauguration along with several other people who would constitute some of DOGE’s earliest members. SpaceX did not respond to a request for comment.
Palantir was cofounded by Peter Thiel, a billionaire and longtime Trump supporter with close ties to Musk. Palantir, which provides data analytics tools to several government agencies including the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security, has received billions of dollars in government contracts. During the second Trump administration, the company has been involved in helping to build a “mega API” to connect data from the Internal Revenue Service to other government agencies, and is working with Immigration and Customs Enforcement to create a massive surveillance platform to identify immigrants to target for deportation.

A secretive underground FEMA base where congressional leaders hid following the 9/11 attacks is getting an upgrade.
But what exactly are workers doing at Mount Weather? Well, that's classified ‒ and the contractors who are doing the work have top secret security clearances.
Buried in the Blue Ridge Mountains 64 miles west of Washington, D.C., Mount Weather is part of a network of underground facilities scattered across the United States designed to protect federal leaders during a crisis. It takes less than 30 minutes by helicopter to reach Mount Weather from Capitol Hill.
"The breadth and depth of capabilities offered by Mount Weather make it a unique facility," FEMA said in a rare 2009 fact sheet about the site. "The (facility) supports a variety of disaster response and continuity missions, mostly classified."
The "continuity of government" sites also include Colorado's Cheyenne Mountain bunker, with buildings made from battleship steel sitting atop giant springs to help them weather a nuclear attack. The public generally cannot visit Mount Weather's underground facility, but a USA TODAY reporter was permitted to tour Cheyenne Mountain in 2015.
Mount Weather, which is also known as the High Point Special Facility, has both above- and below-ground facilities as part of its 564-acre site, and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem visited the complex in early April, posing for photos outside with the complex's fulltime fire department and armed FEMA security guards.
"This DHS Command Center is crucial to emergency relief and federal coordination in the face of disaster," Noem said in a social media post that showed her visiting a cozy living room with historical plaques and (unreadable) information signs on display beneath her photo, along with that of President Donald Trump.
What Noem didn't do, however, was reveal any details about the classified parts of the bunker system. But federal contracting details and historical announcements from FEMA provide tantalizing hints about the facility that started life as a weather and mining research site in the early 1900s.
Among its facilities is an underground cafeteria with seating for 300 people, which offers a sense of how many people could be housed there. The facility also has office space, dormitories and private sleeping spaces for VIPs, and training rooms.
Even the price tag of the new Mount Weather work is confidential, but contracting details suggest workers must be skilled in both underground construction and HVAC equipment, including air handlers.
FEMA did not respond to a request for comment.

@fatisthenewshape is in charge !!
Tumblr media
“Omg I can’t believe how boring his life is. I know he told me before that his life was nothing but I didn’t expect it to be this bad.” Finishing up the paper work from the most boring job ever I pushed my chair in. I wonder what he’s doing in Paris right now. Sure therapy wasn’t intentional but it happened somehow and now I knew I was in his American body. Right when I was about to walk out of the office I heard my email go off. I went back to check and it was yet again another down sizing. Me being good at this job of his wasn’t on the list hit it just meant his boring job was about to get more boring !!
Tumblr media
I screamed looking at that computer. “I can’t take this shit anymore!” I slammed the door shut to the office and on the way home grabbed some beer. In the apartment that night I just stared at the glow of the tv. I was only on my first beer and I was already feeling sleepy. I didn’t want to be in this body anymore. This life was so boring !! It was so much more fun when we just talked about transfo….. I sat tight yo on the couch. Maybe this was a way to really live a transformation. Maybe this was the chance I had to really make a change. Pulling up his tumblr account i reread everything he posted. I didn’t realize how many different changes he had written about. But needless to say after couple hours I have decided on the changes I would make. Closed my computer I walked back to the living room and opened up another beer.
Tumblr media
It was a couple months of my new ambitious beer drinking that I finally had a beer gut. He has written so many stories about having one that it was odd he didn’t actually have one. This was my first change I was going to make to him. And now here I am. Rubbing this big gut while I’m walking out of this office for the last time. It was now time for me to go onto the next phase of my plan. Destroying his education was right up his ally. He always talked about being dumb. And a dog. Well he needed a job that would fit that role.
I managed to get a job at a Construction site. The work was hard and labor intensive. I sweat all day and I smelled like crazy. But I kept drinking my beers and continuing on the path that I had set for him.
Tumblr media
Making so much less made my next changes a little hard. One of the things he fantasized about clearly was tattoos and I wanted to make sure he had them. But the massive decrease in pay from the corporate world made it hard. I started asking some of my coworkers about the I tattoos and before I knew Indians out they was an artist and was offering to give me some at a discount
Tumblr media
It was long before I was making daily visits to get as much ink as possible on his body. I was loving how fast his body was getting covered in tattoos. And the looks that people were giving. I was soon looking like a walking piece of graffitied skin. I began to do other things. Like adding gauges to hjs ears. One I had them completely obliterated to the point of now return I knew that his physical changes had to come to a close.
Tumblr media
For the next part in his journey I decided to delve deeper into one of his stories tropes that he wrote about alot. Problem was that I wasn’t willing to do any of the work. I found myself on the dark web one night and with a couple thousand dollars and his social security number it wasn’t long before the stranger had logged into the federal system and began to add charge after charge to his record. Drugs, possession, firearms. He was making this man a low life thug criminal and now there was nothing he would be able to do about it. He would be able to find the chat rooms or anything to get this resolved. I even perfected his signature and sending a copy to the stranger online he used that to validate the claims of all the charges he was placing on this body. We even managed to invalidate his college degrees and even high school degree. Now he was a high school drop out who went down the path of being a hard criminal. It wasn’t long before his face was being seen all over tv. Armed and dangerous. I was now living the body of a wanted man just like in those stories he wrote. It was t long before the police came and aggressively arrested me. And I just smirked. Bring in prison was going to be the utmost change to his life that would be able to make. And from the sounds of it. With all the charges I had managed to get on his record, he was going to be here for several years. Especially after I admitted to everything for him.
