I fucking love the arranged marriage trope in fan fiction. Not because of problematic consent issues, I get why people don’t love that. But I just need stories where two very different people need to learn how to live together. Maybe even learn how to love each other, how to eventually choose the other over whatever dreams they had before.

The more I consider the "Smoky gets Frostpaw sterilized against her will" thing, the more I dislike it even on a thematic level...

This book seems to be trying to put Frostpaw through an arc of learning to trust people. Riverstar magically appears in her dreams to send her to the Park Cats who are meant to teach her this lesson, but... starting and resolving that arc more than halfway through the book was sloppy, and a waste.

Instead of Smoky forcing medical treatment on her in spite of how she tells him point blank "please no," SHE should have called for the human.

A creature that the Clan cats have never trusted, that they have great reason to fear. Caught between dying with her pride like a good warrior and taking a risk on the kindness of an unknowable beast, in spite of all the betrayal, she chooses the chance.

Play it like this; Make it so the reason she becomes chosen by Riverstar at all is because he SEES this glimmer of potential within her, because of this very choice.

Instead of that bizarre opening chapter where he seems to have magically gifted her some kind of spiritual connection as a plot device, INSTEAD make it that they were sadly overseeing the end of her life. That this was her destiny, to die as a young, proud warrior apprentice. To trust no cat, as her mother told her.

But instead, she tricks the wording of the self-fulfilling prophecy Curlfeather told her. It said nothing about trusting a human!

THEN follow it up with teaching her how to trust cats again. But make the road down this character arc be something she truly initiated, instead of the weird bullshit they did with her being mad at Smoky for violating her consent while also exonerating him for "Doing The Right Thing :)"

#Asc spoilers #Thunder spoilers #Like what was the point of having Smoky do that if they weren't going to do anything with his betrayal aggravating her--#--inability to trust people #Theyre obviously trying to set up an arc here about her learning to trust #But he forced medical treatment on her AGAINST HER WILL. When she COULDNT FIGHT BACK #In general though her flaw has been that she's been TOO trusting so this whole arc feels unnecessary imo #But if we must do it. Then set it up this way #Show that over and over. She chooses to trust. Sees the good in people #If anything the park cats should be focusing more on teaching her when NOT to trust. Like... judgement.#Judgement more than the question of trust itself.#But Smoky doing that was such a profoundly bad and uncomfortable idea imo #Give Frostpaw some agency?? Please???#Instead of just having God and other people constantly pushing her towards the next quest #Come on man

I just think Toei gives Vegeta a lot of shit for a guy who's maintained his rank within the top ten most powerful beings in the mortal realm since he was like five years old.

And it's true of Goku too!!#I had to explain to a friend the other day too that Bardock's wish re: his boys doesn't remove all the grinding Goku's done over his life #It helped him survive and meet people the same way it did Raditz but Goku's still been training every single day. all his life.#The reason Raditz lost is because he didn't train his tail like Nappa and Vegeta did -- he knew it was a problem with a solution #and never addressed the problem. Goku consistently dug his heels in and worked to overcome any weakness he discovered in his body #no opportunity is going to help you if you don't put the work in. that's why Vegeta's arc is so good. It's deeply important to me that Loop kind of sucks

#they are literally awesome but they do kinda suck. just a tad #mostly as in i keep thinking about lucabyte's comics. they are critical to me #i love isat's postcanon as a space to explore recovery and communication #but sometimes you kind of have to drag urself through glass to get there. sometimes the glass sticks in ur skin and makes u prickly #i think constantly about like. loop being surprised by siffrin's kindness if u choose to be nice to them in certain dialogue options.#remarking about how time has made them jaded more than he is #loop is fundamentally kind. but they are scantly ever 'nice'#i think if loop joins the party it's inevitable that they are going to make each other bristle up #loop has a difficult time with all of the party members. between the guilt and the loss and them just not being capital s Siffrin #and to the party who only knows loop from one interaction and siffrin's apparent care for them i think loop would come off. abrasive at bes #like. like i dont think loop would act the same with the party that they do siffrin. their mask is very Piss Siffrin Off specialized #but how much of ur persona is an act and how much of it is yourself. or whatever. loop wouldn't want to be mean to their friends sure #but it's much easier not to hurt if you wedge some distance. no better way to get that distance by being offputting. i think isabeau esp #would get the brunt of this. poor man #plus there's just hte general fact that like. nobody likes the feeling of talking to somebody who clearly knows too much about them. who #will never show their own cards. added with the fact that there's just an inherent strangeness w loop. where they have a relationship to #siffrin thru the loops that none of the party members will ever grasp (and in a way they cant even guess frankly!)#i just have a hard time seeing loop's assimilation into the party as going smooth and nice. you know. i think the party members would think #that loop kinda sucks a little. i think loop would let them think this. all of this being said this is not irreconcilable or permanent #but i like there to be growing pains for the party's expansion. i won't even get into nille bc this aint abt her but yah #the lucky thing loop is you made friends with a lot of really nice people who would being willing to get to know you again.#isat spoilers

in light of lie detector tests irl being mostly bullshit, especially so for people with anxiety, combined with fandom shoving all their mental disorders onto their faves cuz projection is fun, i propose a much more chaotic take on zuko joining the gaang wherein toph can NOT get a fuckin read on this guy and kind of wants him to just sit down and breathe for a second thanks, your heartrate is giving her a headache

#as with most of my ideas #time for jokes #the gaang ends up at a standstill cuz they really DO need a firebending teacher #but they cant fuckin tell if zuko is lying #at first they assume he's just like azula #but then toph's genuine concern for his heart health shuts that down #and so they begin opperation calm zuko the fuck down #which does not work at all #cuz the gaang suddenly switching from 'mm dont trust you' to 'hey lets do a spa day' is concerning to say the least #and then joke prompts aside #the angst potential if toph ever misinterprets anxiety as a lie #especially in the early days of zuko joining the gaang #things could go wrong pretty fast #is hyper anxious zuko pretty ooc? yeah #do i care? no #two versions of any character in my head #one is classic best efoort interpretation of canon #other is a free for all of headcanons and projection #both are valid and both are constantly pinging around in my head #you dont get to choose how i play with my dolls asgjfhdh #atla #zuko #toph #book three #insp

rick becomes super into multiversal travel after prime introduces him to it, very hyperfocused on it and the opportunities it presents (like how the gotron episode establishes that rick can get carried away unless someone reels him in). diane might initially be supportive of this but as rick's appearances around the house become more shoddy, she gets fed up and they separate. after a much more complex deterioration of their relationship obviously rick considers this a win at the time, since he's now free to dick around and do whatever he wants, essentially adopts prime's life philosophy and hangs around him. him and prime would eventually have some sort of falling out, which leaves rick extremely bitter and annoyed. he ends up spending most of his life alone, still living by his pop nihilistic ideals because he thinks this is what he wants. eventually he'd still end up squatting in prime's dimension and realizes that he actually Prefers this family life. his infatuation with prime could develop into resentment when he realizes that he essentially robbed rick of a comfortable, idealistic life

#whatever. im crazy #and look im still incorporating parts of canon i like!!!#this is just. to me. would be a much more conclusive(?) approach to his character arc #hes given a choice between the entire universe and his family and he chooses the universe #and then hes given that choice again and he Chooses A Family this time #like idk. it would be so much more in line with whats been established of rick previously #like in the toxic ep where he considers morty an irrational attachment #idk maybe it would hit harder for a character who has constantly chosen loneliness?#for him to realize that hes attached but not being able to view it as anything other than a burden due to How He's Been Living #not to mention him being attached to prime in his younger years could help illustrate how he's always craved connection #does this make sense? whatever. im offering you a view into my sick and twisted mind palace #this is just my very self indulgent approach to an alternative rick backstory #not to mention c137 beth and diane could still exist as angst potential!!! what if rick went back to make amends!#or maybe even a solaricks situation where hes forced to confront the ugly past hes left behind right as he accepts a life with the smiths
