This is a badass line, but I think it also scratches the surface of something that comes up a lot in One Piece.
Birth is not destiny.
Species, race, class, gender, nationality, family history, strength… None of these things dictate how you have to live your life. But they DO affect your circumstances, and you WILL have to deal with them in some way. Accept it, manipulate it, reject it, deny it, curse it… We see a lot of ways people respond to their history. But thinking about it, it’s never really framed as “overcoming it.” Your circumstances, love them or hate them or anything in between, are part of you. Comparing this attitude to other shonen series, this is pretty fucking revolutionary. If you have to "overcome" something it suggests that it is an immutable fact of reality. One Piece throws that entire idea out, so "overcoming one's humble birth" or "overcoming one's unfortunate circumstances" isn't the framing Oda uses.
Here, Luffy is not saying he will “overcome” Arlong’s strength. He’s saying he has different strength. Luffy’s species is not a handicap compared to Arlong. It’s not even an advantage. It’s just a difference. It would be stupid for Luffy to try to compete in bite strength with Arlong* so he doesn’t bother worrying about that comparison.
This is maybe Luffy’s greatest strength: to see the world exactly as it is, without letting himself be blinded or distracted by what “common sense” says he should see.
I need to do a lot more thinking about this before I can articulate exactly what I think Oda is doing here, but you see some version of this theme appear again and again. Hopefully by the time it comes back around I’ll have a clearer idea of what I’m trying to say lol
#one piece#op ch90#saltey takes on one piece#luffy#*yes I know he does exactly this in the very next chapter#considering the whole joyboy thing#I am suuuuper curious to see how oda handles the denouement without turning it into a destiny thing#or a *barf* chosen one trope

pondering kaido's character
got to thinking about this by accident but i think the biggest problem with kaido's character is that he was introduced after big mom, aka one of the best villains in the whole series and the first yonko we really get to interact with. she sets the bar sooooo fucking high with being a mix of terrifying and legitimately sympathetic, and then kaido just fumbles it afterwards.
which is extremely disappointing because he has one of the best introduction's ever with jumping all the way down from a sky island in a suicide attempt but coming out of it unphased, which sets up his personality in an interesting way and also immediately showcases how insanely durable he is. meanwhile once we get to wano i feel like we sort of… dont get a real explanation for why kaido has suicidal tendencies. which is what caught my attention with his intro.
i think the closest explanation we get is that hes so strong that hes just... bored nowadays. no one can compete with him in the same way oden once did, which kaido seems to consider the highlight of his entire career as a pirate, so everything has become kind of dull as a result. he basically just tries killing himself for a semblance of fun. thats interesting but i wish oda expanded on it more!
his thing with joyboy also didnt make a lot of sense to me other than 'joyboy was the most powerful so kaido being the most powerful much mean hes the next joyboy'. that feels like a missed opportunity.
the part of him being PISSED about someone taking out oden for him and that being repeated with his fight with luffy was super good. i wish we got more of that dynamic where kaido is a dickhead who only cares about strength, but also genuinely respects and kind of personally likes the people that can go against him because of how much he solely values strength in people. thats definitely his best character trait and i enjoyed his character the most during those parts.
#im like genuinely tweaking rn on this cold brew monster drink so idk if this makes sense but i wanted to jot it down#one piece#kaido#kaido king of beasts#one piece analysis#one piece wano#wano arc#oden#kozuki oden#big mom#charlotte linlin#luffy#monkey d. luffy#wano overall is a great arc and has a lot of my favorite moments in the whole series#but i really just wanna take some scissors and cut some shit down or out entirely because it really feels like oda got distracted at parts

Okay so, I came up with this One Piece theory that I think no one else has come up with yet and I need to know what you think. So, one of the biggest mysteries in One Pice are the 3 ancient weapons: Poseidon, Pluthon, and Uranus. Poseidon was an ancestor of the Neptun royal family who could communicate with the Sea Kings, and her current incarnatio is Shirahoshi. Pluthon was a physically reproducible warship whoose blueprints were owned by Iceburg and Franky before being destroyed. But Uranus is a much bigger mystery, as we know nothing about it yet.
So I looked up what the names mean and Poseidon is the roman God of the sea, Uranus means sky of heaven, and Pluthon is the roman version of Hades, the greek god of hell. So Poseidon is the sea, Pluthon is the underworld, and Uranus is the sky. The meaning seem to go with the look of tge weapons: a mermaid is a sea creature, a warship is related to war, which many people describe to be hell on Earth, so Uranus must be sky themed, or at least it's theme is a creature that can fly and it's also somewhat godlike.
Now, after Robin develoeped her Demonio Fluer during her fight against Black Maria many people started theorising that her devil fruit was actually not a paramisha, but a mytical Zoan. Like how Luffy's Gum-Gum fruit was actually the Nika fruit. I really like this theory and it would explain why Robin seems to be much stronger than any average paramecia user, ever pre-timeskip. So it dawned on me: what if Robin (or rather the previous owner of her fruit) is Uranus?
Think about it: a theme in One Piece is reincarnation, or ratger the spirits of the previous generation coming back in the newst ones, almost binded by destiny. And Luffy, this generation's Joyboy, was unknowingly tied to Shirahoshi (the reincarnation of Poseidon) Franky and Iceburg (the owners of the blueprints for Pluthon) and Robin (possibly Uranus?) Long before he knew anything about the weapons or his fruit's true identity, almost as if faith was guiding him thowards them.
So I firmly believe that in the Final war against the world Goverment and the Celestial Dragons Shirahoshi will learn to controll her powers, Franky will rebuild Pluthon (also sidenote, some people also theorise that Noah and Pluthon were originally built by the same person and that Noah was like a less refinied/incomplete version of it) and Robin will awaken her devil fruit fully becoming Uranus: a flying sky monster of another world that's connected to the gods, since demons are fallen angels in almost all mythology.
And in the frontlines of Joyboy's army alonside her allies and friends, the Demon Child Queen will finally take revenge, having learned the truth about tye world, her heritage, and keeping her homeland's legacy alive, fully using the potential inside of her that she was made feel worthless and sinfull about.
Do what do you think? Did I got something wrong? Is it a strech? Would it fit with the themes and story or would it ruin Robin's development? I need to get an opinion from a One Pice fan
Oh, damn, okay- I just woke up so this is probably way shorter than what you probably deserve for this text, but, yeah. I consider it a good theory! It makes sense if you think about it that Luffy was tied to them from the start and it's true that Robin is the one to end the mystery and also become greater than she already is, especially since, as you said, her powers seem stronger than usual. However, I always leave theories like these to theorists because I am just awful at these things (I'm way better at analyzing characters when it comes to reading canon stuff). But if you want my honest opinion, I think it could work out if they wrote it well. I don't think it would ruin her character, I'm just thinking about how Oda (if this theory ends up being true) will pull the whole "Well, actually, Robn's fruit isn't what you think! hA!" because he already did that with Luffy and it has to be a huge build-up to be interesting and shocking again.
#but it's not that wild like it's a theory that COULD happen unless lots of other theories i've seen#props to you for thinking about this i'm literally awful at theories within the lore#one piece

4, 8, 14, and a number of your choice for shanks/mira in honor of your stalker anon❤️ -bibaybe (literally wtf is happening there???)
This has been sitting in my drafts since anon's last bout of stupidity, I found it fitting to drop it tonight to celebrate their return 😆
Thank you so much for this ask! ❤️ let's get into it - for anon ✨
4. Who initiates affection? Why does the other not initiate affection as much?
The very, very first time it's Shanks. After that it's only Mira for a while, because he is hesitant to give in to his feelings for her. Once they're together though they just naturally gravitate towards each other in a way that it's sometimes impossible to tell who moved first.
8. What do they love most about the other? Why?
That's a hard question to answer for both of them, because they have known each other literally all of their life and have loved each other (no matter wether it started of as platonic or not - who knows, not me^^) for just as long. Loving each other is pretty much part of their DNA at this point. But if they had to chose one thing they loved most about the other... Mira loves Shanks' light, the way he can see the positive in every situation, even when nobody else does or when others deem it inappropriate. And Shanks loves how fiery Mira is, no matter if it presents itself in passion or anger or even her damn stubborness.
14. Do they enjoy PDA, or are they more private with affection?
In the beginning of their relationship - when Mira was still the Captain's daughter and Shanks was his apprentice - they were very private about any and all affections (except around Buggy, who was the only one who knew from the get go - and who probably wished he could unknow it xD). Most of their affection would be exchanged in the privacy of her cabin or during a stolen moments below deck. But later, when it's his/hers/their own home and terms people around them probably wished they'd be a little less comfortable and sickly sweet about their PDA 😏
49. Do they keep secrets from each other?
Do they k-... 😭 One might think that Shanks not telling Mira everything her father has told him about the joyboy and the whole Laugh Tale thing is as bad as it gets (although he only keeps it from her, because he feels that making sure that he takes his Captain's journey to the end the man never lived to see is his burden to bear and that she has been through enough already), but boy is that nothing compared to all the secrets Mira takes with her when she disappears in the dead of night...
(under the cut, in case someone doesn’t want to get spoiled for the more juicier plot points... 🤫)
There is the part she had in her father's sickness and death.
And the reason why she left without an explanation or goodbye, leaving Shanks heartbroken (and maybe worse should I chose the "milder version of a mermaid's mating bond" / soulmate route - milder version, because even all the delicious Mystical Zoan shenanigans considered, Mira is still not an actual mermaid).
And last but definitely not least there is the fact that she never told Shanks he has a daughter.

Do we know if one piece will be finished soon? Thinking of it's end makes me so anxious haha
short answer is yes, long answer is... "soon" is extremely relative when it comes to one piece (lol). so i personally would not worry too much!! ive been in and out of one piece since thriller bark was releasing real-time, and im like... trying not to think of the end. this series has been a part of my life for like... fifteen years or smth crazy. BUT i don't think it's going to come any time soon irl. here's why! (that's what im telling myself, at least)
as of last fall, the manga has officially entered the "final saga" starting with the egghead arc (official twitter announcement), which is basically macro-plot endgame for the whole series. for context, one piece is so huge it's broken up into "sagas" and "arcs", with each saga most often containing multiple arcs. this means that sagas can last literal years of real-life time. there's some debate about where to actually draw lines around sagas--for example: i have seen some people combine WCI and Wano into the "Emperor Saga" before, but i think it's commonly accepted that Zou/WCI/Reverie are one saga and Wano is it's own thing.
SPOILERS BELOW
however, even in a world where the final saga is one large "arc" (unlikely, since we're already starting to move off egghead imo) think about how long Wano was on it's own. i fell off reading consistently around the the middle/end of WCI and didn't pick things back up for four years, and all i missed was a hefty chunk of Wano. one arc/saga. i'm not saying that every arc/saga is going to be as long as Wano (i think it's the longest to date), but think about how many moving pieces are still on the table and how it took years to address two emperors and the samurai (which was set up in Thriller Bark). we still have:
the remaining emperors, shanks and blackbeard (and buggy, tentatively, but i do think cross guild is going to be an ally because buggy/croc/mihawk all have histories as "temporary" straw hat allies and once you cross that threshold you're in it for life)
marines (absolute justice), e.g. akainu and his followers
the five elders and imu (seperate from AJ marines because they're clearly making their own moves)
marines (honorable justice/SWORD), although it looks like they've starting moving as of 1080
revolutionary army
what's left of the supernovas, because i highly doubt the other two monster captains have died at this point
saul and the ohara survivors + straw hat grand fleet (again, allies, so they might just appear out of nowhere or not take an active plot role outside of narration [re: saul] or battle [re: shgf]), but they still have to do something)
yes, i realize that these are all pieces that he's basically moving across the board from where they are now to where the final battle is going to take place, but considering the pace of one piece chapters that could take years alone. at a rate of 40-ish chapters a year, even if the final saga is 150 chapters like Wano, that's still a lot of irl time.
and that's not to mention the narrative elements oda has left to wrap up (although i will admit, now that he's started cutting narrative/worldbuilding and putting things in SBSs exclusively, i do think there will be a lot of unanswered/unsatisfyingly answered questions by the end--why senor pink got a flashback backstory and not zoro's family/the shimotsuki lineage is one of the top 5 most burning questions i am going to ask god when i die). explanations for lore and worldbuilding often cover multiple chapters, especially if it's in the form of a flashback. and we still have so much plot plot to get through when you consider joyboy/void century "plot A" and current timeline "plot B".
i firmly believe we're going to get an extended flash-back sequence of joyboy/void century events because that has been the backbone of one piece's plot since alabasta. so at some point we're going to have to break away from the "plot B"/current timeline to get the full picture of what's been driving the world since joyboy's era. i think that's going to be a whole ~thing~ that's even longer than oden's flashback sequence, which people were calling "oden's flashback arc" at the time (literally, it was like a mini arc because releases covered six months irl time). so setting aside everything that has to happen in the main plot, there's also (hopefully) going to be a huge unaccounted for chunk of backstory/narrative.
so my guess? five years, personally. anything less would leave a lot of unanswered questions or cut huge corners. unless it ends abruptly like bleach or naruto (please please please no), i think it will be longer than wano's 150 chapters, so when you take into account release schedules and filler five years feels like a good estimate. (you could even say six because the there's about a year delay between the manga/anime, and i almost count that as... one piece TWO! because it's like a whole different experience sometimes [see: spandam manga vs. anime; ace's expanded backstory; SH timeskip extended sequences; etc])
(and on a purely selfish note, in five years i'll have been into the series for two decades, and i think it would be extremely satisfying to cross that threshold lol)
ANYWAY YEAH i'm feeling totally normal about the thought of one piece ending and have put a completely normal amount of effort into convincing myself it'll still go on as long as i possible. hope this answers your question(???) i got a little off track there lol

While the change in demeanor and atmosphere around the table wasn't lost on him, Red Hair didn't exactly anticipate such an outburst of emotions coming from Ace. Some of his crew closest to their table jumped in their seats as Ace's fists came clashing down against the surface, others looked ready to reach for their weapons if need be. Shanks, however, remained calm, grey eyes focused on the young man in front of him who looked angry with the world and disappointed in it at the same time.
A glance was exchanged with his first mate and Beck got up, silently motioning for the ones closest to move to different tables, giving the two some more privacy. It was easier to move his men around than try and ask Ace, distraught and angry as he was, if he wanted to take the conversation somewhere far away from prying eyes and ears. Shanks then glanced at the bar, motioning for the bartender to refill their drinks, and once both their mugs were filled to the brim once more, the red haired pirate took a deep breath. Nothing could have prepared him for such questions, certainly not ones that carried such heavy weight with them.
"There's some questions I can't answer fully, mainly because there's things that happened with Roger after he disbanded the crew. I can only tell you what I heard from others about it. As for everything else, I'll tell you about him as I knew him from growing up on the Oro Jackson." Whether that would be satisfactory answers or not, that was for Ace to decide. There would be a certain bias to his words, and he wouldn't lie about adoring the man and having him as his role model for so many years. Ace wanted the truth and he deserved it, deserved to know Roger as the man not just Shanks, but the rest of his crew and pirate world saw him.
Hand reached for his mug, Red Hair leaning his head back as he downed the drink in one go. Truth be told, he hadn't thought of his former captain in a long time, and this conversation was bound to open up some wounds and bring back memories of days he usually fondly remembered.
"Roger was... hm. He was a lot of things. A captain first and foremost who looked after his own, a leader, a compassionate person, somebody you could look up to. Mind you, he was no saint. He clashed with others and killed both pirates and Marines, he plundered and indulged in a hedonistic lifestyle. Maybe the Marines and World Government considered him a scumbag because he made their lives difficult, but they still respected him. Everybody did, myself included." Not only because he was his captain back in the day, but also because Roger could have easily left him in whatever port the moment he discovered Shanks as a toddler in a treasure chest. Instead, he took him in, and he was raised by the whole crew, growing up to be the man he was to that day.
A sigh left his lips. There was still so much to unpack, so much to tell, every single thing dancing on the tip of his tongue and threatening to slip out worse than the other. Worst of all, perhaps, that Roger suffered from an incurable disease a year prior the crew had disbanded in secret, and prior to finding Joyboy's treasure. Well, there was time for that, too, granted Ace didn't know about it.
"You've every right to be angry, though I think your anger might be aimed at the wrong person." He knew he had to choose his words carefully. Perhaps in Shanks' eyes Roger wasn't all that much at fault, though he couldn't speak for Ace. He could only imagine the burden and heaps of troubles coming his way simply because of who his father was. "For most part, the World Government's to blame for putting all the weight Roger's name carried onto you just because you're his son."
"Look, Ace. We can't choose our parents," Shanks then continued, making eye contact with the young man sitting opposite him. "Is it fair you're being hunted and threatened with death because you're his son? It's not. But if there's one thing I know, it's that Roger would never let any of this happen is he was still alive. He wasn't the type to abandon anybody and leave them to fend for themselves."
APPROACHING this topic was difficult. maybe it was rude of him to suddenly drive down the edge while his first approach was filled with genuine gratitude towards the red - hair. after all, luffy only talked about him, for most of the childhood he was given to spend with him. he himself stated silently, as a little brat that shanks must be alright. and he was not disappointed. however, as much as he wanted to extend the light hearted atmosphere during a simple evening with card games and booze, here was his only chance.
to scratch wounds open, to broach the subject that had long been a source of inner turmoil. ❝ who was he, really. ❞ his question fell off quite vague, but it held the intense stare and borderline tension now bubbling within the fire fist's frame. uneasy fingers rolling against the wooden surface, his shoulders visibly stiff and thick eyebrows forming a frown on ace's visage. the ever so carefree fire fist now, looked like a looming figure in a dark alley.
his head hanging low, digits rolled into fists as he took a sharp breath. ❝ was he really a scumbag like everyone says ? ❞ the distant sound of voices in his head replaying the same thing he's heard for years because of his nothing - good father. like a broken record, once again putting needles through the bleeding heart. sharp teeth grit tightly, grazing against one another as ace's gaze rose to fall back onto the pirate.
❝ why did i have to suffer 'cause of him ? ❞ in the whirlwind of emotions, it was hard for ace to contain himself. so much more venom spat over his words, frustration now apparent as he got up from his seat. hands slamming against the table, alerting the other crew members. ❝ why do i have to die 'cause he was such a fuckin' piece of shit father ?! ❞
shanks didn't even have the chance to answer him properly, before ace on his own wish started to succumb more and more into the depths of his own anger. the words people said to him, the death they wished upon ace for merely existing on this world. the tortures promised to be executed on a young teen. it was all he wanted to just forget. but he couldn't. ❝ i never fuckin' asked him to make me. why did he do that anyway, eh ?! he wanted me to suffer 'cause he couldn't face the truth ?! that he's nothin' but a rottin' bag full of shit ?! ... answer me shanks. ❞ with a deep breath and ragged inhales to calm the nerves, at least put them on a leash for the time being ace sat back down. almost looking disappointed.
#enjomo#// shanks: *wants to be comforting and explain it as painlessly as possible*#// also shanks: *sweats and weighs out every single word that comes out of his mouth*#// sksksks#𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐞 ― red haired shanks#𝐨𝐟𝐟 𝐬𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 ― queue

One Piece chapter 1050 review:
Oh, good! Yamato caught Luffy. I was worried about that. Also, wow, Yamato must have some stellar arm strength considering how hard Luffy was falling and the hole Kaido made. Also, I love that little smile Yamato gives him. And Luffy doesn’t actually look all that bad, considering! I was expecting a lot more blood. …Though it is possible a lot of it is internal bleeding, I guess. Hopefully he and Zoro can get medical attention soon. And I’m glad that Chopper actually has some help in that regard, this time! Love those fellow doctors coming to his aid.
It's actually really sweet that Yasuie ate the Smile fruit specifically so he could match Toko, despite knowing exactly what it would do to him. And her lantern message was equally adorable.
Bepo hugging law like that was also sweet and adorable, especially because of how exasperated Law looks by the action.
Considering what just went down, and the fact that there are marines and such currently surrounding Wano, Momo probably has the right idea about not immediately flinging open the gates. My guess is that he will probably do it around the same time Fishman Island finally makes use of Noah. At the same time, though… well, if the whole “opening the borders” thing was specifically about welcoming Joyboy, then he kind of doesn’t need to worry about it either way? Joyboy is already there, after all.
Brook’s expression trying to hold Franky back was great. And I love Yamato taking charge like that!
Things happen pretty quickly after that… Like, I figured something was going to happen with volcanic eruptions after I saw the way Kaido and Big Mom’s holes connected to the magma, but I didn’t expect it to be immediately like that! Nor did I think Luffy would get bandages right away—it makes me wonder who exactly did them, and exactly how much time actually passed. Probably at least, like, an hour or something, right? I mean, considering Momo recovered enough energy to fly and make such a striking pose over the skies of the Flower Capital.
In any case, I think the battle was wrapped up pretty nicely here. It should be interesting to see the healing and aftermath once things have calmed down some. And I hope things WILL get a chance to calm down, and we won’t be encountering another Thriller Bark situation where we immediately had to deal with another threat right when everyone was exhausted.

Wano Country
41 years ago: start of the flashback, Oden becomes Daimyo of Kuri several years later
33 years ago: former Rocks pirates start recruiting. Kawamatsu, Inu and Neko join Oden
30 years ago: Oden joins WB and leaves Wano
28 years ago: Roger realizes he has a terminal disease, he goes to the twin capes to recruit Crocus and starts his last journey. Momonosuke is born
26 years ago: Roger is shown the road poneglyph from Zou, Hiyori is born
25 years ago: Roger and his crew reach Raftel, they then disband
24 years ago: Roger turns himself in to the Marines and is executed
23 years ago: Ryuma's grave is robbed
20 years ago: Wano falls to Orochi and Kaido, Oden is executed
Now my prediction:
Chapter 965: We will come to know more about Toki. She will spark Odens interest in the void century and the stones. Sengoku said in chapter 957 that Oden was poached by Roger for his final voyage (not earlier then ?), so we can assume Oden spent 2 years with WB, giving him the time to become division commander. The reason why Oden will leave WB is because he will be intrigued by Roger's goal in searching for the poneglyphs and info on the void century, unlike WB who is not interested in this matter. Roger himself got recently interested in the stones as he has reached the end of the road as indicated by the log pose. This is where he realized that he would need the information from the stones to reach the legendary island of Raftel (according to Inu, chapter 820). This is what is behind his motivation to start a final journey where he will go back to the start of Grand Line in search for all the poneglyphs he can find (I dont know if the distinct purpose of the road poneglyphs is widely known as noone has read them all in centuries. A lot of the tribes and kingdoms who guard the stones know nothing of what is written on them). It is hard to guess how much Toki herself knows about the void century (she might have fled from it at a very young age). Whatever she knows, she could decide not to tell much to Oden and Roger so that they can discover the truth by themselves at their own pace, much in the fashion Rayleigh warned Robin about not rushing this matter back in Sabaody. A pregnant Toki (or already with a newborn Momo) will be brought back to Wano by WBs crew while Oden joins Roger on his last adventure. Izo will stay with WB. When Momo talks about meeting Roger (chapter 820) it seems like he met him once, he didnt grow up on Rogers ship. It is safe to assume Toki and Momo never went with Oden and Roger. As for how Roger will win Oden over, some people said it could be through a Davy Back Fight. That would honestly be a lot of fun but I dont know if it can fit in one chapter. I believe WB will be cool with Odens departure, he never really considered him an underling or his "son". We are 28 years in the past.
Chapter 966: Oden's journey with Roger. They go back to the twin capes to recruit Crocus, then to Skypiea where Oden will write the note on the sky island poneglyph for his captain. Oden is the only one who could write and engrave it so (although Roger is somewhat capable of deciphering poneglyphs, as stated by Big Mom in chapter 853, I doubt he could write them). They will go to fishman island (maybe finding the joyboy stone along the way). They will reach Zou where the minks will show their road poneglyph to Roger and Oden. We might then learn more about the ancient alliance between the Kozukis and the Minks. They will then venture to Big Moms territory to steal her poneglyph. We are 26 years in the past.
Chapter 967: Next road poneglyph in line is located on Onigashima, it was there long before Kaido came. Oden will return to Wano with Roger for the first time in 4 years. He will reunite with Toki and Momo, who will also meet Roger. At this point Oden will father Hiyori. Oden will leave Inu and Neko behind on Wano as they sail again. Next part will not be shown in great detail, the Roger Pirates will take the remaining year to find the 4th road poneglyph and reach Raftel, completing their journey. They will then disband and vanish. We are 25 years in the past.
Chapter 968: Oden comes back to Wano with the firm intention to open its borders. Orochi became Shogun in the meantime (possibly after having poisoned the late Shogun and fabricated his will). Oden and Toki are probably the only two people who know what is really at stake with Wanos tradition of isolationism. We might learn there what is behind it from their perspective. Ryuma's grave is robbed by Moria. Orochi uses this as a bad omen to fearmonger the people of Wano into opposing Odens wish of opening the country. 3 years later, Kaido attacks Wano (he is in a secret alliance with Orochi). Hiw crew clashes against Oden and his retainers. We are 20 years in the past.
Chapter 969: Neither Kaido nor Oden can best one another. This is where Orochi comes into play. I think he will trick the red scabbards into being captured. As said by Kinemon in chapter 818, "he gave his life most admirably to save the lives of his servants". Also in chapter 920 when Kinemon tells the full story about Oden to Luffy and his crew, Luffy reacts by being horrified at "a dirty thing" Orochi did. My feeling is that Oden was never bested, Orochi blackmailed him into surrender with the lives of his retainers. This is also I believe at the root of the feud between Inu and Neko, as will be shown at this stage of the flashback. This should be the end of the flashback with a return to present day.
Also some food for thought I couldnt really tell elsewhere. Back in Zou Neko said Luffy was like Roger AND Oden when he could hear Zunisha but not be heard back. However Momo is able to talk to the elephant. This power might then come from the Toki side of his heritage. There were also theories rising about the houses associated with the moon (Kozuki, Amatsuki, Shimotsuki) that were very interesting. It got me thinking when I last saw the Kozuki crest. On the sides there are four symbols sticking out of the circle. This could refer to 4 allied clans to the Kozukis (Shimotsukis, Amatsukis, Minks and a 4th ?). This is just speculation. On the same crest you have an "orb" surrounded by 8 smaller balls. This could be tied to the theory that in the past the planet used to have many more moons (as suggested by the globe kept by the Ohara scientists). The central orb could represent the planet while the 8 smaller balls would stand for 8 moons. Last theory: Momo (with his control over Zunisha and maybe more) is an ancient weapon in his own right just like Shirahoshi. It is possible that Roger and his men were "too early" because you need the ancient weapons to be able to do anything about the whole lost century thing. At their time, Momo and Shirahoshi were too young or still not born thus why they felt they got there too early in time.

I was tagged by @silencee-moon on that OP ask thing, but Tumblr is being a butt and not letting her send it to me so I’m making a new post.
🙅 - Least favorite Straw Hat? (This one just cause i want to see you rant about his 10,000 nosebleeds LOL)
lmao brah you know me too well XD Yea, I’ll admit... Sanji ain’t my favorite. I don’t actively hate him or anything though. In fact, I do like Sanji most of the time, just sometimes his love for women is downright annoying. I feel like this “running gag” of his is way too forced and it ain’t even funny to me. Especially in instances like Enies Lobby, where his insistent refusal to hit Kalifa caused Nami to be put in danger in his stead. Not to mention that Robin was already on a time crunch. Is that really chivalry? Sanji, you’re chivalry went so far, it rounded back on itself. Sorry, I don’t really mean to harp on Sanji. I love him, I really do I just wish he would tone it down about 8 notches.
🐼 - Fave side character?
Lord almighty don’t make me choose XDDD God all I ever love are side characters lmfaooooo and it changes a lot. At the moment it’s Kid and Killer for obvious reasons. They’re super interesting right now and I can’t wait to see more of them!
👂 - Favorite quote?
Once again, Lord almighty DON’T MAKE ME CHOOOOOOOOSEEEEE!!! D: There’s SO many great quotes in this series, it’s SO HARD to pick just one. If I had to settle for one, it’d be the one I try to live by day to day which is “Don’t think of what you’ve lost. What’s gone is gone forever. Think instead of what you still have.” -Jimbei to Luffy (in case anyone happened to forget lmao)
🎆 - Something you can’t wait for??!!
God, there’s so much to look forward to in this series??? In the immediate future, I hope we get to see A LOT more of Kid and Killer, most specifically their backstory. Can’t wait for that bastard Apoo-py head to get his cheeks clapped to next week. Can’t wait for this alliance to beat Kaido n Big Mom. But more than anything I can’t wait to find out about the void century and the will of D, what it all means. When it comes down to it, I just can’t wait for the next chapter bruhs XD
☠ - Fave pirate symbol?
Law’s hands down. The fact that he modeled his entire pirate crew around Corazon and his smile will forever make me cry.
👾 - Fave villain?
The term “villain” in this show is sooooo loose bc so many people who were villains come back on our side. Idk if he’s still considered a “villain” but Kuzan is probably my favorite one. His whole role in Robin’s story was so cool, and you could absolutely see him questioning his morals a little bit. I’m a sucker for people on “the bad side” who have good morals, even if the society they live in sucks.
🙇 - A headcanon about <Law> (yus you know which one i’m talking about, the one that gets me in the feels every goddam time u mention it ;-; and needs to be told again cause its just so good.
You got it buddy ol’ pal! I’ve probably shared it here before, I can’t remember, but she’s talking about my headcanon where Law develops insomnia after Corazon’s death bc he took his silence barrier for granted, and the outside world is just too damn noisy.
🔍 - What do you think the One Piece is?
Well, we know the one piece is both a physical treasure of sorta AND a tale of laughs. I think the One Piece is directly linked to the Will of D, both their story and the remnants of their fortune. (and I think this joyboy character is Luffy. I don’t think Joy Boy is a specific person, but rather a term used for a person, if that makes sense.) Maybe Laugh Tale used to be the heartland of the D’s kingdom, who knows.
🥁 - Most hated character rn? (thought ill spice it up a bit n add that drumset =D)
LMAO I see what you did there. Of course my most hated character rn is fucking Apoo bruh. Traitorous bastard hurt Kid n Killer physically and mentally and tbh he’s just an annoyance. I can’t wait to see Kid tear off his skin and turn him into his own personal drumset he fucking beats to death whenever he gets angry.
🌧 - Saddest backstory?
LAW. God, hands down fucking Law’s. I usually end up sobbing every time I read it. Like, legitimately sobbing. Corazon was such a good guy, and I still miss him terribly... Just seeing how Cora risked everything for this boy, his position as a spy... his job... his life... for no other reason than he loved him and wanted him to have a chance... god ya can’t write tragedy like Oda can, I tell ya.
