I constantly multiship them with Sheranda (also I ship Connor with one of my oc Ares girl) so I've put both romantic and platonic headcanons

Romantic

Sherman and Connor were secret FWB for the longest time and no one ever knew about it. Everyone in camp just always took them for these occasional friends who'd team up once in a blue moon against a common enemy. Connor suggests the prank, Sherman makes it more painful and they'd have a good laugh afterwards. They have the same kind of dark sense of humor and always speak bluntly to each other, not afraid to give a piece of their mind.

The whole thing started when they played truth or dare with their siblings and friends. Mark dared Sherman to kiss Connor. When all expected a grossed out and categoric no, Sherman just shrugged and leaned in to kiss him. Everyone freaked their shit and was so shook and they laughed at their reactions, loving the attention. But they didn't take their eyes off the other for the rest of the game. At the end of it, all campers got up to retire to their cabins before curfew and Sherman discreetly nodded to him towards the woods. Connor followed him without a word. That night, they hooked up for the first time.

They were the perfect embodiment of perfectly comfortable with each other FWB where feelings never got involved and they stopped the whole thing when they fell in love with other people. Sherman started dating Miranda and Connor started dating Mitchell and both drifted apart for two years.

Then Sherman and Miranda broke up but remained good friends. A bit later, Mitchell cheated on Connor with Malcolm. The next day, Sherman found a heartbroken drunk Connor in the woods with a bottle of vodka, they shared the bottle while Connor was telling stupid jokes to hide his sadness. Sherman just listened and faked a laugh without saying anything. At some point, Connor looked at him all seriously and said: "wanna know a secret? You were better in bed than him anyway." Sherman didn't respond at first even though it was the perfect occasion to brag. He just looked at him with the same intensity than that night they played truth or dare before leaning in to kiss Connor. That night they hooked up again for the first time in two years.

After that, they went back to sleeping together again except that they hid much less and showed signs of affection in public. The moment both Travis and Ellis started to suspect them is this afternoon at the lake where Sherman suddenly knocked a peanuts bag Percy was handling to Connor on the ground. "What the heck's your problem?" Percy exclaimed "he's allergic to nuts you stupid"

Bc the thing is, even though they were never official, they know each other per heart, Sherman knows things about Connor that no one else does and vice versa. They're protective of each other and Connor even pranks his cabin less because of him.

Eventually, I imagine Travis and Ellis intervening to help their brothers realize they're more than fck buddies. Sherman would be reluctant at first because he thinks he's only a rebound for Connor after his break up with Mitchell and Connor thinks Sherman would never date a guy in public. Ellis tells him Sherman was the first person to support him when he came out and that if there's something Sherman doesn't give a dam about, it's boys dating boys.

Finally, they get their shit together and become official and the most dangerous yet close couple Camp Half-Blood has ever known. They're also Ares' and Hermes' favorite couple before CecilxEllis and ChrisxClarisse (what do you mean the gods don't do favorites ofc they do)

Platonic

Still allies to prank somebody they mutually dislike and became friends in the process. They mostly bonded over Cecil and Ellis not able to admit their feelings to each other so along with Chris and Clarisse, they did a little matchmaking.

Connor: Yo what's up?

Sherman: Hey, my brother's totally into yours.

Connor: Ohh, really?! Same! We should let them figure all by themselves like mature people.

Sherman:

Both: Nah

The night Cecil and Ellis became official in front of the whole camp, Sherman and Connor high-fived and were the first ones to lift them up to throw them in the lake as the tradition says.

How they became friends is still a mystery to most people. I like to imagine it Marshall and Ted from HIMYM style: Travis was staying at college so Connor had to go back home all alone in Mississippi where their mom lives and Sherman living in Alabama he proposed to give him a ride. Basically their trip went like this: link. Since then they've been friends

If Sherman is protective of Clarisse already, it's nothing compared to the pitbull mode he gets in when someone approaches his favorite sister, Sonny (OC of mine. And its Sonia actually but she'll kill you if you call her that). Despite being the youngest daughter of Ares, she's the feminine "I can fight in high heels" one and attracts more than one guy at her feet. Connor is one of them. He started dating her before his first college year and they kept it a secret because of Sherman. When he finally found out and caught them kissing, happened what Travis still calls the funniest chase of all times: Sherman ran after Connor for fifteen minutes his spear high up in his hand, screaming he was going to skin him alive. At the end, he did beat him up a bit but then thought it was better Connor than any other guy drooling on his sister.

The Sherman x Connor art I promised to the homie in my ask box

I made a second one where he's smiling instead

This is unprecedented behaviour. I've never drawn ship art for anything except established and well-loved canon ships like Percabeth and Hyapollo. But I have a duty to my people (the people being those who are attached to unpopular characters). So here you go! There will most likely be more in the future.

Okay this is like--humm pshh-- chapter 8 of the Sherman and Connor fic I created while looking for pose references for the ship. Spoiler for the fic that literally has nothing but a rough outline: they start out hating each other :3

If you don't want me to continue blabbing about my possibly-to-be-written fic you are more than welcome to move along 🙈 I'm just excited.

Beginning of my blabbing

So, in the beginning, when Connor (9) and Travis (11) get to camp Sherman (10) is kind of a dick and taunts and makes fun of them a lot. Basically, he's a bully. And Connor, in this AU at least, is kind of an angry child because of his past and takes the rage bait when it's handed to him. For weeks they just go at each other, throwing out insults, yelling at each other, sometimes even throwing a punch or two. And then one day at the dining pavilion during lunch Sherman throws out a particularly hurtful comment and Connor gets pissed and just starts beating the shit out of him. It gets so bad they have to be physically restrained and Chiron calls them both to his office.

While they're there, Chiron gives them a talking to about team work and being civil with one another because demigods needed to have each other's backs in case they need to fight a common enemy and yadda yadda yadda. He orders that they build a better relationship and spend some time with each other... Over the month of chores they are now assigned together.

After their first day of chores during which they simply worked in silence Sherman follows Connor to the woods against his wishes. It's awkward for a bit before Sherman asks why they're in the woods. Connor tells him that he likes being away from everyone and tells Sheman to leave. Sherman obviously stays and keeps talking. He asks why he'd rather be alone than around his friends and Connor says that he has a hard time being comfortable around anyone besides Travis. Sherman asks why. Cue ✨par-for-the-course tragic backstory✨! Sherman realises now why his comment at lunch was uncalled for and apologises. Connor forgives him and Sherman tells him how he got to camp and they bond over their equally shitty backgrounds and form a tentative friendship.

So we've arrived at enemies to friends so far :3

Now, fast forward 5 years! They train together in their free time. They're sparring, one stumbles causing the other to trip as well. They're on the ground, face to face... Nothing happens. At least not on the outside :] they get up, dust themselves off, say goodbye and leave, now with stirring feelings 👀

Fast forward to the Battle of the Labyrinth, book 4. They're talking about the coming war and Connor talks about how he feels he wont survive and that he hopes Travis doesnt miss him too much. Sherman is upset that he's not concerned about him missing him but doesn't say anything because it's not about him. Connor says that he wishes he could be as good a fighter as Sherman so he could be more useful. Sherman doesn't take well to his self deprecation because Connor IS a good figter. Sherman himself helped train him. He yanks Connor by the arms and tells him this very passionately. Then ✨realisation✨ happens and he notices how closely he's holding Connor and Connor realises how closely Sherman is holding him and they both get flustered and Sherman lets go and Connor looks at anything but him and Sherman feels silly and apologises and Connor says its totally okay then says thank you for the encouragement and AHHHH!!

Fast forward a bit to the actual battle. Connor gets hurt really badly and Sherman frantically calls out for one of the healers. That's a scene I am itching to draw. Just thought I should mention. Moving on!

While Connor is in the infirmary he has a nightmare that involves Sherman either being killed or recruited by Luke. I haven't decided yet. He wakes up panicked and leaves the infirmary. Guess where he goes. Go on, guess. So he starts pounding on the Ares cabin door, hoping Sherman will answer. Sherman does. Once he sees that and the relief sets in, his injuries and the exhaustion catch up to him and he collapses. Sherman kneels in front of him and tries to calm him down. Connor tells him the dream and Sherman tries to reassure him that he's fine and will still be there when the war ends. He takes him back to the infirmary. Whether he goes back to his own cabin or stays there has yet to be decided.

Fast forward to the chariot discourse with the Ares and Apollo cabins. Clarisse has refused aid. Connor is begging Sherman to talk sense into her. Sherman says there's nothing he can do, Clarisse is resolute. Connor is literally pleading with him because if the Ares cabin doesn't join the fight they could lose everything and people will die. Connor will die. They're both close to crying because Sherman can't betray his cabin and Connor can't lose more of his friends because of this. Sherman says that he wants to fight but if he does he could lose his siblings' trust. Connor says that if he doesn't fight Sherman will lose his trust and now there are tears. Connor feels bad but doesn't back down from his stance. Instead he hugs Sherman and continues to beg him to talk to Clarisse. I haven't figured out how to end that scene. Stay tuned.

Fast forward to the end of the Battle of Manhattan. On their way to Long Island the "I have feelings for you" scene happens and they have their happy ending kiss before they cross the border to camp :]

In fact I'll give you an hc right now for the price of free! It's been in my head since I started down this rabbit hole and shows no sign of relenting until I write it down :']

So I headcanon all of my blorbos as left-handed because I am left-handed and it's just fun to project :]] so in my WIP fic Sherman trains Connor in their spare time and notices that he's left-handed. The following interaction occurs:

Sherman: You're left-handed?

Connor: Yeah... Is that bad?

Sherman: No, it's good. It's a competitive advantage

Connor, skeptical: How so?

Sherman: Most people who are trained to fight are given right-handed opponents. So to them, naturally, you'd be an anomaly, trickier to beat because you're coming at them from an angle they don't expect. You, however, have been fighting normal people your whole life.

Connor: Hey!

Sherman: You have the advantage.

Connor, considering this: What if my opponent is also left-handed?

Sherman, swaps his sword to his left hand: Let's find out.

Connor: You're left-handed?

Sherman: Ambidextrous.

Connor scoffs: You're even less normal than me.

Sherman: Shut up.

This happens when the relationship is pretty much established. So let's say Pre TOA, post HOO? Around there

Sherman wants to take Connor on a date. Like a proper date because let's face it, there aren't many options within their environment and circumstances. War after war, confined to the borders of camp? Nah, there's no romance to be had there.

So Sherman asks Katie and Travis for ideas since they are the happiest couple he knows other than Percy and Annabeth. And Travis is his brother and knows him best.

Katie suggests he take him on a picnic.

Sherman thinks that's a rad idea!

Now he just has to find out what Connor likes to eat

So he asks Travis

Big mistake

Travis snickers (first clue. Goes right over his head)

He looks Sherman in the eye and says Connor just loves peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. He insists upon this.

Strawberry jelly in particular. "And remember, it MUST be strawberry jelly."

Sherman loves peanut butter and jelly! He thinks "wow, this is so easy!" Thinks nothing of Travis's devious look and the fact that Katie is shooting him weird glances.

He thanks the couple and leaves

Fast forward to the date

Sherman presents the sandwiches which he lovingly made with his own two hands. This much he tells Connor

Connor looks at the sandwiches with real fear in his eyes (clue number 2!)

Connor asks "so this is a peanut butter sandwich?"

Sherman nods

"with strawberry jelly?"

Sherman nods again, his excitement waning a little at the line of questioning

"Mhm. And did Travis happen to tell you that I like peanut butter and strawberry jelly?" (Clue number 3)

"Yes? Is there a problem?" Sherman's disappointed look makes Connor reconsider what he's about to say so he just says "no, of course there's no problem" followed by nervous laughter. (Clue number 4)

Connor takes his sweet time biting into the thing but once he does shit goes down.

It is here we find out Connor is allergic to peanuts AND strawberries.

Sherman fireman carries him to the infirmary. Will supplies an EpiPen. Crisis averted. Travis arrives having seen Sherman's frantic rush.

Sherman yells at him. "Why didn't you tell me he was allergic!"

Travis has the decency to look at least a little guilty. "Okay, but in my defence, I didn't think he would actually eat it."

Later Connor tells him that it was the most delicious poison he's ever eaten

This will find a way into a fic at some point. I just wanted to get it off my chest though.

Your headcanons are so cute!!!! 🥺🥺 (also about their friends thinking they're unhealthy, if Annabeth can judo-flip Percy and no one bats an eye, I think Sherman and Connor could probably get away with jokingly trash-talking eachother XD)

Sherman's love language being acts of service is so real btw. He'd probably try to do pushups with Connor on his back if Connor didn't completely refuse, because atleast one of them is smart enough to know that'd break Sherman's back 😭

Btw, the nature of their pet names are totally along that line. Sherman calls Connor loser and Connor calls him asshole. They've barely even dipped a toe into sweetie and honey cakes or the other sweet ones unless they're being ironic.

Sherman called Connor "dear" for the first time and Connor called him an idiot and told him to stop.

Connor: What's this 'dear' bullshit? It's fine when other people do it, but it just sounds weird coming from you. *shudders*

Sherman: then what the fuck do you want me to call you, dumbass?!

Connor: 'dumbass' is fine, just stick to the fucking formula!

Now they just do it to make their friends uncomfortable :]

Sherman’s backstory

⚠️⚠️Trigger Warning For Physical And Verbal Abuse And Violence⚠️⚠️ I've highlighted the triggering parts in red

So Sherman’s mother wasn't anything like the woman you'd expect the god of war to fall in love with. She was gentle and nurturing, and just all-around a non-confrontational person. But she still had a warrior’s spirit and fought for Sherman in other ways.

When Sherman was three his mother married a very well-off man who later abused her. Sherman didn’t know. His mother (her name is Bella) sometimes had bruises on her arms or face but she always said she fell or had some other accident.

When Sherman was seven and came home from school he heard his step-father shouting and peaked in through a window to find him yelling and hitting his mom. He got scared and hid behind the house until his father left in a huff (presumably to a bar). He came inside and saw his mother crying. When she saw him she wiped her tears and pretended nothing happened. Sherman didn’t say anything.

His step-father was never the most affectionate man but he wasn’t aggressive towards Sherman when he was growing up. But one evening a few years later Sherman woke up and heard crashing sounds and breaking glass downstairs. There was yelling too. He went downstairs to investigate and found his stepfather attacking his mother. His mother was bleeding from her head. His stepfather was swinging a bottle at her.

Sherman ran into the room to try and stop him. He yanked at his arm and started punching him but his father just turned and started hitting him instead, telling him that he’s useless and stupid and he’ll never amount to anything. At this point he’s kicking him in the stomach while he’s lying on the floor. When his mother recovers enough to stand she attacks him. She tells him to never touch her child again and starts beating at his back. He knocks her to the ground again and starts kicking her. Sherman panics and picks up a shard of a broken vase. He stabs his step-father in the leg.

When he falls down Sherman stabs him in the back of his neck and his shoulders. He dies. His mother is shocked. They hear sirens approaching. Apparently the neighbours had called the police. His mother tells Sherman to run, that she’ll tell the police that it was her that killed him. Sherman refuses but his mother’s insistence forces him to leave. She tells him how much she loves him and that they’ll see each other again soon. He spends a month on the streets before a satyr finds him and takes him to camp.

(He tells Connor that his mother was the bravest person he’s ever known.)

Connor’s backstory

⚠️⚠️ Trigger Warning For Parental Neglect, Self-Harm, Abuse, And Addiction⚠️⚠️

Connor’s mother, Ruelle, used to be an international interpreter/polyglot. She met Hermes at a business conference and they hit it off. When Travis was born she loved him like any mother would love their child. They moved to Virginia when she was pregnant with Connor and made friends with Julia and Marcus who were restaurant owners in town. They would always come around to make sure Ruelle was settled in properly and was taking care of herself and the baby. They would pick up Travis for play dates to give her space and alone time. When Connor was born everything was great for the first two weeks but then Julia started to get worried about Ruelle.

She would come over and Connor would be lying on the floor crying while Ruelle just smoked a cigarette in the kitchen. Julia checked on Connor and angrily asked Ruelle if she was even paying attention to Connor’s needs. Ruelle didn’t answer. Julia asked where Travis was. Ruelle said he was playing upstairs.

Julia insisted Ruelle go see a therapist. She refused and told Julia to mind her own business and worry about her own nephews. Julia said she couldn’t let these children suffer. Ruelle told her to just take them then. Julia did.

Travis and Connor stayed with Julia and Marcus for about two weeks before Ruelle called the police on her and told her that she kidnapped her children. Julia told the police that Ruelle was just confused and said she would return them to her care. She did so reluctantly. Julia and Marcus were worried. They taught Travis how to make baby formula and feed it to Connor just in case Ruelle wasn’t feeding them. They didn’t want to call child services because they wanted to give Ruelle a chance. She never went to therapy though and her mental state kept deteriorating.

Eventually after two months, upon Julia’s tearful insistence, Ruelle, also tearful, agreed to try therapy and started taking better care of Connor. However, on Connor’s first birthday both her parents died in a plane crash to visit her and she spiralled into a depression. She had the presence of mind to use the inheritance she received to pay off her mortgage but started neglecting the children. When Travis started going to kindergarten he had an excuse to leave the house and Julia could teach him to take care of Connor because Ruelle wouldn’t allow her near her house and would invite Travis over to her house to eat before going back home.

When Connor was two she married a man named John and together they spent their lives getting high and avoiding their responsibilities. John frequently beat Ruelle and went out to clubs and bars and partied and got drunk and cheated on her and all that jazz and because her life was so utterly shit she took out all her frustrations on her children. She would beat them, lock them in their room without food, force them to eat expired food and accuse them of trying to make her look bad if they didn't, and lock them out of the house at night.

Sometimes they would spend the night at Julia and Marcus but when they came back in the morning and Ruelle found out where they were she would go off at them and beat them up. John would just watch and not care because they were nothing to him. Once, when Connor was five, she broke his arm and didn’t take him to the hospital. She locked them in their room instead. When they woke up Connor’s arm was healed. At the time they didn’t know Hermes healed it while they were asleep.

⚠️⚠️Extra Trigger Warning For Self Harm⚠️⚠️

Their mother’s depression was still in full swing and she used to cut herself often. Connor and Travis would both walk in on her doing it and she would just look at them and say that they did this to her.

When Connor was turning six they ran away from home. They lived on the street for three years and were constantly chased by monsters and met shady people all the time. When Connor was turning 9, a satyr found them in New York and took them to camp.

(Connor hates his birthday because every year his mother would blame him and his brother for her life being so shitty because her parents died on their way to visit them and see their grandchildren for the first time.)

I feel like they'd be a competitive couple. In fact, I saw a post about romantic rivals that totally captures that😂

Connor's super fast and agile and Sherman's really strong and has got the inherent son-of-Ares skill so they've both got leverage on each other in melee fights. Sherman, though, obviously beats him 99% of the time in combat. But even with that winning streak they're still tied because Sherman loses to Connor in a footrace or obstacle course or any sport that requires athleticism 99% of the time XD

And I say 99% victory rate for both of them but both of their respective 1% wins against the other were total flukes

Sherman only managed to win a race because Nico shadow traveled right in front of Connor near the finish line by accident and they tumbled and Connor twisted his ankle

And Connor only managed to beat Sherman in a sword fight because Percy's stray arrow got him right in arm and took him by surprise

But there is no glory in their competitions so winning by default is still a win

They compete in everything and all their friends say it's unhealthy and that their relationship seems unstable because they trash talk each other all the time but they love it! And it's all in good fun :] They never take any of the stuff they say personally (...most of the time)

Sherman's love language would be along the lines of "I will go beyond my means to solve every single one of your problems" and Connor's is "I will bring you everything your heart has ever desired at your whim", or, as the cool kids call it, acts of service and gift-giving.

So as soon as Sherman expresses an interest in anything tangible it will be delivered promptly to his doorstep and if Connor is even slightly inconvenienced Sherman will find (threaten) a henchman to act as Connor's personal servant or solve the problem himself (often with brute force.)

Example: Sherman is from Detroit but hasn't been there since he was 10. Michigan is known for Sanders chocolate and it was a childhood staple of his. He told Connor that his mom used to get him this specific chocolate as a school snack but the camp store doesn't have it. Hermes Express bulk delivery baby!

Example 2: after Travis leaves for college and the Hermes cabin is left in Connor's sole care, he starts to struggle a bit with the extra responsibility. When he sees Connor's fuse shortening when campers start to get rowdy he goes over and tells them all gently (not at all gently) to shut up and behave or he'll inflict massive bodily harm on all those who opposed him. Connor scolds him publicly and tells him that that's not appropriate but thanks him later :']

Last one!

I've mentioned this one before but Connor's allergic to strawberries and peanuts

And one day when Sherman asks Travis what Connor's favourite food is for a picnic Travis, without hesitation, says peanut butter and strawberry jelly sandwiches

And obviously Sherman listens because Travis is his brother and knows him best

But then when Sherman presents the beautiful homemade sandwiches Connor realises what's happened but doesn't say anything because Sherman made them himself and that's so adorable 🥺

He cut them into hearts

So he eats it and obviously goes into anaphylaxis

Sherman freaks out and takes him to the infirmary

Will saves his life

Sherman yells at Travis and tells him he's an idiot who almost killed his brother

Travis says it's not his fault and that Connor's the idiot because he actually ate it

Drew: Why do you look like that? Sherman, laying face-first on the floor: Like what? Drew: Like you’re dead. Sherman: It’s because I’m dying. Leave me here to perish. Connor: Sherman accidentally called Miranda “babe” in front of everyone today. Sherman: sobs into the floor

Miranda: We might have gotten into a bar room brawl back in the city. Connor: Well, that was entirely predictable. Miranda: One of them punched a gang member. Connor: Sherman? Miranda: Drew, actually. Connor: Oh, that was going to be my second guess.

Miranda: Are you laughing at that video of Sherman and Connor fighting? Drew: No. Drew: I'm laughing at the comments.

Drew: Yesterday, I watched Connor try to eat a decorative rock from Miranda's potted plant. Sherman caught them, and told them they can't eat rocks. Connor started whining something about no food being in the house before walking away.

Drew: Oh gosh I wish I got more sleep I only got six hours! Sherman: Six? I only got three! Miranda: You guys got sleep? Connor, comes stumbling out of their room and grabs a jug of coffee before saying: What year is it??
