Mel: So Donald Trump won the election? Jennifer Connelly: Yeah. Mel: Even though we voted twice in New York? JC: Yeah. JC: Wait. JC: WHAT? Mel: Yeah I mean, sure. Why not? JC: Because it's wrong. Because it's VOTER FRAUD! Because you aren't even from this universe let alone from this state! Paul Bettany: Because to make a difference you should have committed fraud in Wisconsin. Mel: Yeah, I noticed that. PB: Next time talk to me first. Layton: If there IS a next time. You know, I think it's time to start raising an army. One thing I've learned, if you want democracy, you have to take it by force. PB: I like the sound of THAT! Mel: Listen to you, jumping straight to bloodshed. Can't we just... sneak into the capital and STEAL the white house and PRETEND to be Trump? It's only for 4 years. I could do that in my sleep. JC: Stop it, STOP IT, STOP IT, ALL OF YOU! I can't believe what I'm hearing! Voter fraud... insurrection... whatever the hell you call Melanie's weird plan... it's all so complicated. We should just move to France until the fascism blows over. Macron seems reasonable. Layton: That's... missing the point, Jen. PB: Well, hold on. France IS close to the Alps. JC: Right. Ski season is around the corner. PB: With climate change there's no telling how long the snow will last. JC: Think of the kids. PB: They deserve as many powder days as we can give them. JC: I'll call the Ritz and get our usual suites. Layton: Okay. So. Screw YOU guys. Mel. I guess it's up to us. Mel: Okay but. I REALLY want to do my thing where we steal the country from this asshole but nobody knows it. Layton: *sigh* Mel: Once we do it you can be in charge of the army. And I'll get caught at some point for sure and then there will be fighting, so you can satisfy your bloodlust. Layton: Or, the power will go to your head and I'll have to usurp you for the good of the republic. Mel: ... Sure. JC: You know, you two were SUPPOSED to go back to your own universe. That was the agreement. Mel: Soon. Layton: VERY soon. Mel: After we save humanity. Layton: The democratic experiment failed. Mel: The People need us.

The Rookie Detective: Joseph Oda x Fem! Reader (Chapter 2)
short synopsis: the reader, joseph, sebastian, and kidman all head out on an urgent dispatch. the tension between the reader and joseph not going unnoticed by neither sebastian nor kidman. sebastian values joseph's skills as a detective and becomes worried that his feelings for the reader may hinder his work. small TW: attempted sewerslide and this fic is honestly so cheesy LOL word count: 3341
“From my understanding, detectives, this next stop might be a little chaotic. Three armed shoplifters, apparently.”
“Sounds serious. Anyone injured?” Joseph inquired, his arm tightly pressed into yours.
You were currently awkwardly sandwiched in between Kidman and Joseph in the backseat of the cop car. No matter how much you tried to tuck your arms further into yourself or to cross your legs to create more space for the two around you, the two were still tightly pressed up against you.
“Nah, doesn’t seem like it. They never mentioned any casualties and they probably would’ve sent an ambulance had there been,” the patrolman driving replied.
Suddenly, his eyes shifted over to yours in the rear view mirror. His eyebrows raised at the sight of you and a glint of curiosity within his eyes.
“Who’s the newbie in the middle seat back there?” He asked, his gaze returning to the road ahead.
“I’m the new trainee. (First & Last Name), it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, sir,” you introduced yourself, still feeling a bit uptight.
“Agh, there’s no need for any formalities. I’m Connelly. Oscar Connelly. Good luck on the job today, by the way,” his eyes met yours again in the rear view mirror.
“Thank you, I appreciate it,” you reply, feeling a bit more at ease.
The next few minutes of the drive consisted of comfortable silence, the cloudy skies creating a scenic view. The low hum of the engine and the raindrops showering the outside of the car was rather relaxing.
Soon after, Connelly parked the car near the back of the supermarket.
As soon as the car parked, Sebastian as well as Joseph and Kidman exited the vehicle, seemingly unfazed by the pouring rain.
Following shortly behind them, both Sebastian and Joseph readied their pistols and carefully entered through the storage room in the back.
“(Last Name), you’re with me. Joseph, you’re with Kidman. We’ll work on locating the convicts. You both keep watch of the exits. Make sure no one leaves or enters,” Sebastian whispered, motioning for you to follow him.
You were a bit disappointed that you weren’t paired with Joseph and slightly jealous that he was going to be with Kidman instead, but you were sure Sebastian had his reasons for pairing everyone up the way he did. At the same time, you were also getting extremely anxious. This seemed like a bit of a heavy job for your first day, but as long as you remembered all of your training from the academy, you should be fine.. right?
Joseph nodded in response, motioning for Kidman to follow him as he took a different route.
“Follow closely behind me and watch my back,” Sebastian whispered under his breath as he made his way around the corner.
You both appeared to be in the furniture aisle, as many decorative pillows and bedsheets were piled on top of the shelves surrounding the both of you. As you both continued to wander the halls of the supermarket, you heard the sound of a gun cocking. The sound reverberated throughout the echoey walls as you both quickly turned to look around.
As you both expected, there was a young man behind the both of you wielding a gun. What you didn’t expect, was who the gun was pointed to.
“D–don’t… c–come any c..closer..!” The man exclaimed, his words slurring together with his hands shaking and his eyes bloodshot.
What the hell?
Rather than the gun pointed towards you or Sebastian, he had it aimed at… himself? What was his goal? “Put the gun down, kid. We just want to get to the bottom of this. We’re not going to hurt you,” Sebastian replied as gently as he could as he carefully placed his gun down on the floor.
You carefully followed Sebastian’s actions, your eyes gazing into that of the teen’s. They were bloodshot red. Was he.. high?
“L–look.. I j–just… wanted to have some fun with my friends. I didn’t ex..expect it to turn out this way. Please d–don’t tell m..my parents! Th-they.. They can’t find o..out! They’ll kick me out and I d–don’t have anywhere e–else to.. Go!” He sobbed in spurts, tears rolling down his face and his finger dangerously close to the trigger.
“Hey! Hey, look kid, like I said, we aren’t going to hurt you. You’re a good kid. We’ll make sure your parents don’t kick you out. I swear on my license.” He seemed to contemplate his decision, his eyes darting around the room as he sniffled. While his left hand held the gun, his other clutched the hem of his sweater strong enough to draw blood. Rather than surrendering, he had begun to.. turn his back?
“You can’t promise jack shit. That’s what I’ve come to learn,” he muttered under his breath, just barely above a whisper.
His finger slowly moved down to the trigger, and your body seemed to move on its own.
“Stop, don't do it!” Sebastian’s voice echoed as he lunged at him, but you seemed to make it to him first.
You don’t know where you found the courage, you hadn’t even given it a second thought before you tackled him to the ground, grabbing his wrist and pinning it to the floor as you sat on top of him.
He wailed as you pried the gun out from his hand, sliding it across the white tiled flooring as you grabbed both of his wrists and pinned them behind his back.
“I’m so sorry. I really, really didn’t want to have to do this,” you softly apologized to him.
All that time practicing jiu-jitsu really came in handy, apparently.
You motioned for Sebastian to hand you a pair of handcuffs, as you carefully clipped them around his wrists.
Rapid footsteps approached from the west aisle.
“Sebastian! We were able to apprehend” Joseph’s voice got caught in the pits of his throat.
He began to stare shamelessly at you as you cuffed both of the young man’s wrists together. Your back slightly arched, your hair cascading down your shoulders and back, your lips slightly parted. He drank in the sight, his eyebrows raised and his eyes widened.
Your eyes averted from the teen underneath you and averted to Joseph. You looked up at him through your eyelashes, awaiting for him to continue his sentence.
Joseph quickly looked away and cleared his throat the moment your eyes met his.
“We– ahem– were able to apprehend one of the criminals. The other got away but luckily there were reinforcements outside who were able to catch him before he got far,” Joseph quickly finished his sentence, carefully approaching the both of you.
You carefully stood back up, helping the teen back onto his feet as well.
“Good work, Detectives,” Sebastian said to the both of you.
“I’ll take him from here, (Last Name). You bring his pistol back to the car with everyone else for inspection,” Sebastian instructed, lightly grabbing the boy’s arm and directing him back outside.
The boy continued to quietly sob, and you couldn’t help but feel a strong sense of empathy for him.
“I can’t help but feel bad for him,” you sighed.
“How do you mean?” Joseph replied, his curiosity piqued.
“He’s a good kid. I can tell he is. He just surrounded himself with the wrong people. He likely struggled with making friends at some point; I could tell from his demeanor. There was something awkward about how he acted that gave it away. He just wanted to feel like he fit in somewhere since he felt so suffocated by his family at home. He mentioned how his parents would kick him out had they found out what happened here. That kind of intensity only drives people away.”
Joseph seemed to ponder your answer for a moment.
“You’re very insightful. To be able to pick up on so much detail from just barely meeting him is very impressive. I admire your perceptivity. You will make an excellent detective, (Last Name),” Joseph acknowledged as he placed a hand on your shoulder.
Your face heated up a bit and your stomach swirled with butterflies.
You turned to him, the corners of your mouth turning upwards seemingly on their own as you looked up at him.
“Thank you, Detective Oda.”
“You don’t need to refer to me as ‘Detective Oda’ anymore. You can just call me Joseph. We’re coworkers now, so it’s quite alright,” he added, a slight smile on his face.
“Really? Wow, uh, you can call me (First Name) then as well. S–since we’re coworkers, of course,” you quickly added in, your gaze averting away from him.
You could hear him chuckle a bit under his breath.
“You should probably collect the weapon he dropped. Like Sebastian said,” Kidman interjected, a hint of annoyance present in her voice.
“Oh! Right, sorry,” you quickly apologized, turning to grab the pistol.
As you examined it in your hand, you noticed a switch on the side of the gun. The safety was still on.
“I guess I really didn’t need to tackle him after all. He never turned the safety off,” you mentioned to Joseph, facing that side of the gun that bore the safety to him.
“I was scared that kid was actually going to kill himself, too,” you sighed, leaning into your hip.
“Wait, he threatened to commit suicide?” Joseph immediately inquired.
“Yeah.. but we handled it though! No one got hurt, really,” you replied, a bit alarmed at the panic that riddled his voice.
“This was meant to be– well– at least a somewhat simple dispatch. We’re very lucky the situation didn’t get too overcomplicated. I’m sorry, (Last Name). You were never supposed to face such an intense situation so early on, let alone your first day,” he apologized, rubbing his temple.
“It’s really alright, Joseph. We’re just lucky he didn’t know about the safety feature on the gun and never had the chance to switch it off. It wasn’t nearly as tricky as it may have sounded, I pinky promise,” you awkwardly giggled, trying to ease the situation as you held up your pinky.
Joseph seemed confused for a second as he looked at your pinky, before finally looking back up at you with an amused sigh.
“I haven’t made a pinky promise since I was in grade school. Really brings back memories,” he replied, interlocking his pinky in yours.
You stared at the two of you interlocking pinkies for a moment, his leather gloves creating an interesting feeling as he wrapped his finger around yours. Even through his gloves, his hand felt warm. A bit of a goofy smile graced your features as you held each other’s fingers in one another’s.
You were quickly broken out of your trance as you saw Kidman’s piercing gaze in your peripherals.
“U-uh, we should probably get going. We really don’t want to keep Sebastian waiting,” you quickly mentioned, gently pulling your finger away.
You fought the blush that crept up onto your cheeks, but to no avail.
“R-right. Yeah, you’re right,” Joseph agreed, making his way towards the exit.
You quickly trailed behind him. The tension between the both of you was just so.. real. You weren’t sure what drew him towards you so quickly.
As you both walked through the aisles of the store to get to the exit, all the shelves were disorganized with items scattered across the floors. Those teens really did a number on the store for there only being three of them.
As you finally made it to the exit, Sebastian was leaning on the side of the car, waiting for the three of you. It began to pour, the rain making your uniform stick uncomfortably to your skin.
“You two get in the car. Joseph, we need to talk. Privately,” Sebastian instructed.
You were a bit curious as to what they might talk about, but still entered the car nonetheless. Closing the door behind you, you were grateful to get out of the rain again. You took your seat in the back and Kidman let herself into the passenger front seat.
Sebastian pulled Joseph aside, far enough away to be out of earshot from anybody close by.
“At first I thought this little– thing– going on between you and the rookie wouldn’t be a big deal, but clearly I was wrong. I see the way you look at her, Joseph. And trust me, I get it. I was like that with Myra. But I never let it get in the way of our work. That’s why I paired you up with Kidman. I couldn’t trust that whatever this is, going on between the both of you, wouldn’t hinder the case. But this is against code of conduct, above all, Joseph! I thought you were smart enough to know that! You two haven’t even known each other for a full day. Give me a break!” Sebastian frustratedly exclaimed, one arm folded over his chest and the other rubbing his temple.
“I won’t let something like this get in the way of our work, you know that. Yeah, outside of a dispatch I might be a little nicer to her than to Kidman or any other rookie, but I’m not going to let that get in the way of my ability to perform as a detective! She’s already shown exceptional skills, even apprehending one of the convicts practically on her own, mind you! Because I know you weren’t the one I saw conducting an arrest on that kid in the store!” Joseph added, “she can take care of herself, clearly. You saw the certificate she got when she graduated, you read her entrance report, you saw her credentials–”
“This isn’t about her, Joseph! This is about your ability to function as a detective when apparently, we have a walking distraction now whose name just so happens to be (First & Last Name)!” Sebastian interjected, his voice raised so loud that many of the neighboring cops went silent.
Joseph paused for a second, just staring at Sebastian for a moment, as if to allow him a chance to re-think what he had just said.
“You and Myra turned out just fine. Like you said, you never let it hinder your work. As such, I will not allow my feelings to hinder my work either. I understand that it is against the code of conduct. But that is only if our relationship escalates above that of a friend. Whether or not that happens is none of your concern,” Joseph replied, cutting the conversation short as he began to walk back to the cop car.
Sebastian grumbled as he watched the man walk away.
“Damn it,” Sebastian muttered as he followed behind him.
Joseph quickly entered the backseat along with you, slamming the door behind him as he hurriedly put on his seatbelt. Sebastian swiftly entered the car as well, slamming the door and aggressively inserting the key into the ignition. The four of you sat in silence as Sebastian drove out of the parking lot.
The tension was palpable, not even the whir of the engine or the pitter-patter of the rain breaking the deafening silence. You wanted to break the awkward silence badly, ready to say just about anything to start up some sort of conversation. You weren’t sure what the two talked about back there, but it didn’t seem very pleasant.
“Weather’s nice out,” you mentioned, almost absent mindedly as you internally face palmed upon realizing what you had just said.
“It’s raining,” the three of them blankly chimed in at the same time, almost harmonizing with one another.
About a minute passed by of excruciatingly awkward silence, before you finally decided to speak up again.
“Where’s Connelly? I thought he’d end up driving us back,” you asked, to the air, apparently.
You were met by nothing but silence for about 15 seconds before Sebastian finally decided to answer you.
“He’s driving back with the others. He helped to catch the other perp who tried to make a run for it.”
“Ah, that’s good,” you replied, unsure of what else to say.
Turning to Joseph, he had taken off his glasses for a moment and seemed to be lost in thought. His nose was slightly crinkled and his head was resting on his fist.
“Are you alright, Joseph?” You whispered to him, a concerned tone in your voice.
“Y-yeah, I’m alright. Thank you for asking,” he replied, appreciative of your concern but still appeared to be bothered by something.
“Is there.. something on your mind? I’m always here if you’d like to talk about it or anything,” you attempted to comfort him or at least sooth his nerves a bit.
Joseph turned to you, his gaze softened and he appeared touched by your willingness to offer your solace.
“It’s quite alright, (First Name). No need to worry about me,” he gave you a small smile and a nod.
While you weren’t convinced, you chose not to press him on the matter any further. Perhaps he will come to you on his own when he is ready to talk, you thought.
A few minutes passed and Sebastian finally parked outside the police department. Without saying a word, he got out of the car and hastily walked into the building.
“Jeez, what’s his problem?” You asked, watching him walk off.
“Sebastian’s been.. through a lot recently. Try to take it easy on him,” Joseph answered, shutting the car door behind him.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know,” you apologized, now feeling a pang of guilt.
“It’s alright. Even though he’s been through a lot that doesn’t give him an excuse to mistreat those around him. But we should give him a bit of leeway. I’d imagine it would be hard to maintain your composure especially after the accident.”
“The accident? What happened?” You inquired, your curiosity piquing.
Joseph sighed, rubbing the back of his neck with his hand.
“I.. I believe I’ve said too much. Since you’ve only just met I would highly advise against bringing this up to him. I apologize. But please just know that he’s going through a lot right now. So if he does act a bit out of line it’s not his fault. Anyone else would likely be acting the same way as well,” he chose his words carefully, opening the door to the entrance and allowing you to enter first.
“I understand. Especially heavy trauma tends to just.. leave people as just a shell of the man they once were. Whatever happened, it sounds serious. So I don’t blame him for acting the way he does,” you replied as you both began to walk back to the office together.
Despite the topic being a bit depressing, conversation seemed to flow effortlessly between the two of you. Once the both of you made it back to the office, both seemed to stand outside as you continued the conversation. You both hadn’t even realized how much time had passed between the two of you until the door to the office swung open, revealing Kidman standing behind it.
The three of you just awkwardly stared at each other for awhile before you and Joseph finally moved out of the way, now realizing that you were standing right in front of the door, blocking Kidman’s way.
As Kidman finally left, you took it upon yourself to finally look down at your watch.
“How long were we talking out here for? We should probably get back to work,” you embarrassedly suggested.
“We’ve been out here for over.. 45 minutes? Time just flies by, I suppose,” Joseph inwardly chuckled.
This time, you opened the door to allow him to go through. He looked at you confused for a moment.
“What are you doing?” He asked, an eyebrow raised.
“Ladies first,” a mischievous grin spreading across your face.
He jokingly scoffed.
“Ha ha, very funny,” he shook his head as he begrudgingly entered the office as you shut the door behind the two of you.
and this marks the end of chapter 2! i hope this chapter wasn't as cheesy as i thought it was and i really hope you enjoy reading :)) im already working on chapter 3 and it should get published really soon!

Cold Waves X. It was a four-month wait from purchase to admission. I owed it to myself to go because goddamn it I’m a fucking industrialist. How should I even miss an opportunity to go to Brooklyn’s Warsaw and be around my type of people that are almost non-existent on Long Island? Plus, Paul Barker, Chris Connelly, and Front 242 would be there. It would be the third and final show of the year I’d attend, capping off a amazing run that started with Boy Harsher in April and continued with Sacred Bones 15th Anniversary (May).
Never had I traveled to New York City on back-to-back days. But the money spent on tickets and round-trip train fare was doubly worth it. I was met with two almost-perfect days of blue skies, white clouds, and nice leveled temperatures. Two days of driving westward on the Long Island Expressway, down Sagtikos Parkway, through Southern State to Rt. 231, and heading south to Rt. 27A to the Babylon stop to Penn Station with alphabet and number lines back and forth to boot, followed by breezy night drives down 27A and Sunrise Highway / Rt. 27 at 3AM. A sense of perfect pitch-black quiet and normalcy waited at the end as a response to two days of unforgettable acts.
No journey to Brooklyn and back wasn’t without being drenched in heavy sweat traversing through subway lines, race-walking on the broken concrete, and standing in one spot for five hours. I’d meet an older gentleman in his Seventies who, like me on Friday’s half, wore a Killing Joke shirt. His debut album to my “Turn To Red”. I’d meet some pretty interesting characters at the stations including a Tommy Conte look-a-like smootching his boyfriend, an Asian girl in a purple dress who’s thigh was bloodied and bandaged, hot wicked pale leatherettes, and a boyfriend who boarded the ‘E’ line with his girlfriend who was literally covered with deep red hickeys from neck to chest.
It was an event incomparable to the Sacred Bones’ showcase before it, or the ten-hour endurance test that was Hospital Productions’ 20th Anniversary. A double-headed victory, nonetheless. And I have the tracklist to prove it:

How death doulas in Oregon help terminally ill die on their own terms
Steve Connelly has mountain climbed, biked, rafted, surfed, skied and taken on any pulse-quickening challenge he could find, earning about 27 fractures for his efforts. At 58, he is facing the first challenge that scares him – death. Almost two years ago, he was diagnosed with type 4 pancreatic cancer. His wife looked for support and found someone who could help guide them: death doula Amy May.…

He could tell she’d never seen a Jeter drive to left field. He felt bad. It was almost like watching god descend from the skies to play baseball, it’s a shame she’d never bore witness. He opens his mouth to start on a nostalgic tangent but abandons it. She’d be better off seeing it for herself.
He smiles a sly smile. He forgot that he was a master of getting under her skin. Her expression let him know when he touched sore spots. Though tonight he was weary of pushing a little too far— he still might be a little shit. He postures like he was awaiting a kiss on the cheek. “Either or really, I’m not picky,” he rallies.
He rolls his eyes at her dig. Depriving him of a public speaking opportunity was detrimental to himself and the general public. He could be funny sometimes, and a great emcee if the crowd wasn’t so strait laced.
“I don’t know if I’ll take etiquette advice from a girl who flirts at a funeral— Grant Walton? I know you’re a social climber but there are definitely better eligible bachelors out there— I saw Bradley Connelly out there, that’s who I would’ve went for but maybe you’re not into the southern gentlemen type,”
Natalia's face twisted in confusion and mild irritation. Her expression plainly read: Who the hell is Derek Jeter? Honestly, would it kill Reuben to make references that normal people understood?
If she thought Reuben asking to get hit was strange, continuing this conversation with him would be even weirder. Pretending as if it was normal to make a hard break into a casual catch-up after asking to get whacked.
"Okay, you know what? I've changed my mind," she declared. "I will slap you now that I think about it." She wanted this conversation to be over. The last thing she needed was Reuben prying into her life, wondering how she could be here when September was such a crucial month for her.
"Do you prefer the left cheek or the right cheek?" She asked, her voice dripping with mock courtesy. "Notice how I gave you heads-up instead of just going for it? Might want to keep that in mind the next time you feel the need to go off the rails at a public event." Though Natalia doubted anyone would let Reuben near another mic so soon.

The Mosley Review: Top Gun: Maverick
Way back when I played so many games on my Playstation 2, I rented one of the greatest games I've ever played. Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies was the most thrilling experience in aerial dogfighting I've ever had and I fell in love with the franchise. It was the closest I'd ever come to recreating the same since of speed and tension that the original Top Gun gave me as a child. That film is an 80's staple and still one of the best films of all time. The trend to make sequels to classic films 20+ years later has sort of died down a bit which is good. It is truly heartbreaking to add a film that tarnishes the legacy of the original and fortunately, this film adds on and strengthens that legacy. From the opening frames to the last shot, this film captured the magic of the original and seamlessly updates it for todays technology and audience. It was an unfathomable amount of fun and the emotional beats the story had was truly earned. The action was fantastic and real which is hard to say compared to the more CGI led films today. I loved that it was shot for real with minimal CGI. It gave the true feeling of being a Naval Pilot and you feel the amount G's these characters pull in every bank, climb or spiral. The action is always the great, but it would've been nothing without the relatable and excellent character work done by the stellar cast.
Tom Cruise returns as Capt. Pete "Maverick" Mitchell and he hasn't skipped a beat. You can see the amount of care that Tom put into bringing back his career making role and the amount of fun he's genuinely having. I loved that Maverick still has that hotshot edge to him and he continues to push the limits. I loved that he was flawed and still haunted by Goose's death and how much of a burden he carries. Val Kilmer returns as Tom "Iceman" Kazansky in an amazing and heartfelt scene that truly was a highlight. Their bond is so strong and their chemistry has never been better. Jennifer Connelly joins the cast as Penelope Benjamin, the old flame Maverick talked about in the original film. She was as graceful and heavenly as you'd expect and I loved her in the film. Jon Hamm was perfectly stern and powerful as Vice Admiral Beau "Cyclone" Simpson. He may give Maverick a chance, but man does he not like him. It was great to see the two of them battle it out over operational superiority and strategy. Glen Powell as Lt. Jake "Hangman" Seresin was excellent and the ever present arrogant jerk of the new Top Gun mission candidates. He gets under your skin and is almost a complete mirror of what Maverick/Iceman used to be. Monica Barbaro was awesome and strong as Lt. Natasha "Phoenix" Trace. She was quick on her feet and a fierce pilot. I loved Jay Ellis as Lt. Reuben "Payback" Fitch and how even though he had a great personality, he was always ready to learn. He had one of the scariest moments in the film during a training exercise. One of my favorite pilots in the film though was Lt. Robert "Bob" Floyd played by Lewis Pullman. He may be the butt of a few jokes, but he was one of the most valuable members of the team. Miles Teller as Lt. Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw really stole the film as he plays the son of Nick "Goose" Bradshaw. The amount of resentment he carries for Maverick was heartbreaking and understandable. There is so much emotional history there and it easily explored and expertly performed by Teller. The chemistry between him and Tom was electric and fun to watch.
Aside from the action and Tom Cruise's aviator sunglasses, there is nothing more iconic than the score. Harold Faltermeyer, Lady Gaga, Hans Zimmer and Lorne Balfe all got together and crafted a perfect score for this already fantastic film. The "Top Gun Anthem" is placed perfectly throughout the film and it immediately brings back the feeling of joy and sets the epic scope of the story. This film wouldn't be Top Gun without the anthem or Kenny Loggins’ hit song "Danger Zone" and the song returns with the fury of the F/A-18E jet engine roar! Visually this film was stunning and I loved that we are in the cockpit with the characters as they fly. The way the cameras are set up have changed the game in terms of audience immersion. Speaking of immersion, the sound in this film was amazing! I felt ever after burn, turn and jet engine ignition. Director Joseph Kosinski has made yet another amazing film and one of the best sequels of all time. This is one of the best films of the year and genuinely a great film. This is a MUST SEE for all Top Gun fans and in IMAX! Let me know what you thought of the film or my review in the comments below. Thanks for reading!

thom, does she know? she doesn’t? so she’s just crying for no reason? again? jesus.
it’s not the sound of the plane that brings izzy to consciousness, but instead the sound of the shouts from the beach, voices startling her awake far too early. but - still, she knows screaming can’t be good, and what if someone’s hurt? that’s the only thought that can piece itself together in her hungover brain, head pounding loudly. she stumbles out of the cave, unsteady on her feet, ignoring the way the world spins a little in front of her. “what happened?” she urges, “what’s wrong? oh my god, what happened? who’s hurt, what happened?” all she can think to say in the state of chaos that the beach is in, and it never even occurs to her to look up. it’s all a lot, her head aches, she just wants to know if everyone is okay, why is everyone screaming?
but there’s a consensus that the others seem to come to, disembodied shouts in izzy’s direction, there was a plane! a fucking plane! and she looks around in awe, looks up, confused, and it takes a minute for it to get through to her, but: above them, a plane went by. and surely, with all the jumping, the screaming, someone saw them. they were here, but somebody had seen them. somebody had seen them, castaways, and they were as good as found. somebody, somewhere, knew that there was an island with missing teenagers. so, somebody knows where they are. somebody knows they’re not dead, they’re alive, and they’re here, right here, screaming up to the skies.
and all at once, she breaks into tears, because oh my god, she’s going to go home. they’re all going to go home. they’re going to go home. things - they don’t turn out this good. things have never, in izzy’s experience, taken a turn for the better. because this? to be stranded, to be starving, and to make it out alive anyways? it’s a fucking fairytale. and she wasn’t expecting that. she’d been holding her breath, worrying about her mom and dad, knowing she’d die here and they’d fall apart, if they hadn’t already. she had been so, so prepared for the worst case scenario.
her whole life, everything had been the worst case scenario.
but now she’s crying, hungover, laughing to herself because she’s going home. she’s going to see her mom again. she’s going to see her dad again. she’s going to go home, and cry, and retake the SATs, and hug her friends, and get bangs like she always wanted to, and the warrenton high school girl’s softball team is going to go to nationals, and everything is going to be okay.
for the first time in izzy’s entire life, everything is going to be okay.
of course, there’s still the other stuff. there’s still amelia, who is dead, and shouldn’t be. but izzy should be dead, and isn’t, and it’s by only a miracle that this has happened for her; and if that’s the case, then there must be a reason that she’s alive. izzy connelly must be somehow worth it, worth the space she takes up, even when she’s not serving a purpose. and after all of this, she knows, amelia would just want her to be happy to be alive.
she misses her sister. she’ll always miss her sister terribly, and she’ll always feel guilty for the way she was glad to never have to have another surgery again. but now, crying, and looking at the sky, a gift from the universe sent to save her, proof that she’s worth the air she breathes, izzy knows her older sister would understand. maybe she always understood. and maybe izzy is just glad to be alive, now - maybe she has every right to be. and she’s going to go home, and things with her parents will be better, and izzy can finally just be izzy, after everything she’s endured.
they’re going home, for real.
she can’t wait to tell odessa.

Kat Tracks: 2020
This is the final post of my annual list of favorite tunes that I’ve been doing for seven whole years! 2020 was a shitty year for humanity, but at least the music was good. Check out my top twenty picks below the cut.
1: Chicane feat. Moya Brennan- Saltwater (Kevin de Vries Remix) Kicking off this absolute flaming garbage heap of a year is a nice new house-flavored remix of a beloved classic. I am, admittedly, a sucker for a good remix, especially one that respects the integrity of the original track.
2: Cold Blue- In Madness / Winter Gates Although the album Winter from which these singles come from was released in November of 2019, the extended versions were released this year. And really, who doesn’t love a good extended mix? In Madness channels much of the frenetic energy I felt while in lockdown.
3: Seven Lions- Find Another Way This five-track EP proves what a phenomenal producer Jeff is. Each collab sounds more amazing than the last, but my favorite track has to be the title one featuring April Bender.
4: Jorn van Deynhoven- The Future is Now Yet another title track from an artist album released in March. It’s a downtempo/ambient piece featuring a piano melody, which I am also a sucker for. The buildup is lovely and conveys a sense of hope.
5: Nikola Melnikov & Max Sorokin- Pandawa Something this nice could only have come from a premier label like Anjunadeep. It has a rather ethereal vibe that you can get lost in and let carry you away.
6: Conki & Mark Wilkinson- I’m on Fire Yes, I am still listening to indie-flavored house music on SoundCloud. What else would you listen to on that platform, future bass or something? Psh. This is a solid cover of the original by Bruce Springsteen.
7: Elysian- Moonchild This banger is a collaboration between the Anjuna family’s Ilan Bluestone and Maor Levi, with trance staple Emma Hewitt providing vocals. It’s solid electronica, but I’m also a fan of the trancier OTIOT remix that was released in December.
8: Paul van Dyk- Escape Reality A full chillout/ambient/downtempo remix album from the legendary PvD? Heckin’ yes please. This is very much the same flavor as Aly & Fila’s The Chillout album from 2015, which you should also listen to.
9: Stoby & G. Coulter feat. Liz Cirelli- Sun is High (Solarstone Vocal Retouch) Who’s ready for summer? This track makes me want to groove on a beach all day and into the night.
10: Hemstock & Jennings- Mirage of Hope (2020 Version) Mirage is my favorite track of this year. The title says it all, really, but the lyrics are even more fitting.
11: Crystal Skies feat. Luma- Hear Me Now I was surprised by the quality of this dnb release on Ophelia, Seven Lions’ label, but after their superb Constellations EP from last year, I gladly gave Crystal Skies my undivided attention once more.
12: 4 Strings- Take Me Away (BLR Remix) It’s another great remix of a classic, this time with distinct deep house flavor. 4 Strings’ Believe album was one of my first forays into the trance genre and I can’t say enough good things about how this version does justice to the original.
13: Tribu- Sweet Disposition This is an extremely good deep house cover of the original by The Temper Trap. Tribu is a new alias of Vijay & Sofia, who I’ve followed on SoundCloud for a few years. There seems to be two versions of this track with slightly different vocals. I prefer the one released in April to the second release in July.
14: Craig Connelly feat. Karina Ramage- Life Half Lived (Club Mix) If you have browsed any of these lists from previous years, you know how much I appreciate the production value of Craig Connelly. This trance track is a more uplifting version of the one found on his A Sharper Edge artist album.
15: Bunt feat. Clarence Coffee Jr.- Unbreakable I adore the Bunt guys with their “folk house” sound and have been keeping up with their releases on SoundCloud since the beginning. This track basically punches you in the face with self-affirmation and confidence.
16: JPL & Jason van Wyk feat. Cat Martin- Unsteady (Pierre Pienaar Remix) Going in the opposite direction now is a melancholy trance offering from Pierre Pienaar, featured on PvD’s Vonyc Sessions podcast. What I really love is the breakdown exactly halfway through featuring that unmistakable JPL sound but with an elevated edge.
17: Kristina Sky & Danny Stubbs feat. Evan Henzi- High Tide I was a big fan of Danny Stubbs’ previous work on Broken, also from the Perfecto label. This track was heavily promoted by Paul Oakenfold. I couldn’t help but fall for the breathy male vocals.
18: Tenth Planet- Ghosts (Darren Porter Remix) Rounding out the year of classic remixes is this banging new progressive trance offering. I like that Darren Porter parred everything back from the chorus so you can actually hear the lyrics, not to mention he preserved that iconic buildup.
19: Nurko feat. Devon Baldwin- Blindspot (Parts 1 & 2) So, this is really interesting. It’s two versions of the same song. Both are in the melodic dubstep genre yet they’re very different from each other. Part 1 is a bit more toned down and Part 2 is slightly more elevated. I also like the story being told. Give these a listen and see if you can pick a favorite.
20: Yula- Fade Away (Soul Version) I never listened to the original release of this track, but I kind of don’t want to because I’m afraid it’ll ruin the emotional resonance of this downtempo version.
Previous Lists: 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013

How to Choose Your Water Skiing Gear for the Beginning Water Skier
The life preserver is presumably the primary equipment for water skiing. For any activity involving water, many states mandate the use of a life preserver. When trying out one of these essential water skiing equipment supplies, make sure your life preserver is well-shaded for increased safety, that it screams, and that you can maintain your head above the water line.
The Preferred Option Blend skis are the most commonly used water skis in terms of equipment. They are ideal for beginning water skiers since they feature a longer tip. Because of the skier's improved control, this particular water skiing equipment is easier to learn on.
One Stunning Skiing Option Slalom skis provide the water fan with one ski, as opposed to mix skis, which use two skis to coast over the water. The skier can ski at more notable speeds because to this type of ski. The beginner or sporting skier also benefits more from getting out of the water and staying upright thanks to their level bottoms and longer tails. Skis used in slalom for cutting Modern water skiers use slalom skis with a tighter tail plan, slanted edges, and camber bottoms. Although these skis are more difficult to manoeuvre, they also allow the more experienced skier to travel more quickly.
Something for the Tumbler If you're a trapeze artist on skis, you might be enthusiastic about stunt skis. Significant level acrobat masterfulness can be performed on such water skis including turns, skips and the eminent "circle the-circle". These skis are arranged with a greater ski district and more restricted length. Not the slightest bit like other water skis, there are no equilibriums on the base, so turns or slides can be better worked with.
Skip skis as you would have guessed are used for jumping off-ramps. If you're essentially just beginning to water ski, such skis might be a "bounce" for you to consider. As the information consequently considers the beginning or donning skier, we'll stick to the fundamental skis for review.
Skis for Young people For setting up your children to water ski, numerous open-air supply shops and water ski suppliers provide tutors with ropes that change and crossbars at the tips of the skis to give balance. Similarly, such mentors give a greater tail which adds lift for the skier while they're starting. Most are exceptionally strong and made of composite materials that are mixture molded for extra strength. Ties offer security and additional comfort and can be adjusted to this explanation. By and large, tutors are around 4 feet in length and can accommodate more young skiers weighing as much as 100 pounds.
On the Internet, several stores sell water skiing equipment. Body Glove, Connelly, Ho, O'Brien, and Radar are a few of the better-known brands. You can find the perfect skis to enjoy the sand, surf, and sun that water skiing offers, whether you're just starting started, have been skiing for a while, or have younger relatives who wish to ski.
