Reminder to call your senators. Call your reps. Call whoever is supposed to be your voice in your government. Tell them what you think.
About what? I won't tell you what to say or how to say it. I've got a whole list of thing I want to passive-aggressively for my Government into doing, from local issues like bus routes and library funds, to national problems like abortion rights and the minimum wage, to international affairs like the war in Gaza or reparations to Haiti for the double debt/French indemnity.
There's a lot of stuff to have opinions about! Make yourself heard. Even if you can't put money towards the charitable causes you care about, you can probably make a phone call that starts with "hi, I'm a constituent from [town]" so they can add a tally to the votes they might lose if they don't act in a certain manner.
Call your reps. Voting is a year away, but your phone is probably in your hands right now. You're probably looking at this post on your phone, or have it on your desk two feet away if you're on desktop.
You can do it. Call them.

I'm crashing really badly today, so this will be brief, but one of the first disability activists I ever had the honor of running into online passed away recently. If you have the time and energy I'd appreciate y'all reading about her.
for her funeral expenses:
also, from her family's GoFundMe "Also, please help advocate for and enact public health policies that center the people who are most impacted by and high risk for COVID, especially people like Tinu. As Tinu wrote, "if you would wear a ribbon for a cancer patient, you should be wearing a Mask for Everyone"."
learn about what is happening with COVID now, even if it hasn't personally affected you yet. Recognise your own privilege and do what you can to protect others. Ignorance is not a luxury high risk people have, and even when we do everything we can to protect ourselves we are so often still failed by those around us. Tinu is not the first person to die because of that nor will she be the last, but it doesn't have to go on forever.
Remember the dead, fight for the living.

constantly thinking about that thing Admiral Cain says to Maverick in his office:
"Yet you can’t get a promotion, you won’t retire, and despite your best efforts, you refuse to die. You should be at least a two-star admiral by now, if not a senator."
a senator.
a SENATOR.
you want pete "maverick" mitchell to run for public office? huh? is that what you want, cain? you're an even crazier motherfucker than maverick to even put that thought in the universe's head.

I read a post recommending people start faxing and mailing letters to our representatives asking them to call for a ceasefire in Gaza, since they are ignoring calls and emails. I have done this via FaxZero and you can too.
(and send me an ask if you need a template letter to use as a jumping off point)

Let’s be so so real right now, the anti antisemitism bill going through congress is not about antisemitism. If these politicians cared about Jewish people at all, they would have done something about it after the Charleston Unite the Right rally.
They don’t care about the Jews, they only care about control.

the tiktok ban would give the us government power to deem any app a security threat for any reason and ban it. it’s in the fucking bill. the majority of people who voted yes have taken large sums from meta and/or own meta stock. and the fact that this is happening in an election year where so many dems are pledging not to vote, threatening to secure a second trump term, is not a coincidence. have whatever opinion you want on tiktok, but this was never about a damn app and if it was truly a threat there are plenty of other things to try first. keep your fucking wits about you and research all the facts before jumping on the hoorah bandwagon bc you don’t like tiktok.

Every city in America (and even the senate) kissing Taylor’s ass and her not acknowledging any of it is incredible. God Bless America! 😍

About the Speaker of the House fiasco, my (Republican) representative has this to say:
"The democratic process can at times look messy, yet this freedom to debate ideas is how our Founding Fathers intended for us to bring about the best outcomes for our citizens."

If you're American you may feel helpless right now, especially with our government explicitly siding with and funding an active genocide. First link is for doctors without borders in Palestine, second is for sending letters to your congresspeople in support of the ceasefire resolution being introduced. It automatically writes out a letter for you, you can edit to add your own piece if you want. It may feel futile and maybe it is, but it can't hurt and it helped me to feel a little less helpless

Christ, I don't post about this kind of thing on Tumblr, but I don't know where else to vent this. Every single piece of news I read about Gaza leaves me absolutely nauseated. Every morning on the news I hear about the latest atrocities in Gaza and the endlessly compounding slaughter of the civilians there, but it's always immediately followed or preceded by an update on the vote for a new speaker of the house, and that update always includes a mention that when a new speaker is finally chosen, priority number one will be reaffirming American support of Israel. Every article I read about today's horrific hospital bombing included a note that this comes on the eve of Biden visiting Israel to try and negotiate aid, but first and foremost to, once again, reaffirm our support to Israel. To make it clear that our support is unconditional. I can't even fucking donate to help organizations because no donated help can actually make it through when gaza's under fucking siege.
I don't know if any world event has ever made me feel so spectacularly helpless as watching the so called leader of my country offer our blind support and endorsement to a nation that is so blatantly comitting borderline (if not outright) genocidal slaughter.

If you don’t know how to write your congresspeople, let Resistbot help you!
Tumblr media
When Resistbot replies, tell it you want to write to your congressperson about the People Before Monopolies (PBM) Act. There’s already a trending petition that you can sign on to and send or you can make your own by writing it yourself or having Resistbot write it for you. Then you can have Resistbot email it to your congresspeople for free, or you can pay to have it faxed or snail mailed. You can also copy/paste and print it out and send it yourself!
This bill already has bipartisan support! Tell your representatives you want them to support it too!
