I absolutely love this thread. It’s what has been keeping me going with a lot of my pieces. I was uncertain about a little something of mine a bit ago and instead of dropping it, I continued to work at it, and I’ve gotten myself out of a slump and immersed myself in a new writing style. I’m very grateful.
Seriously, let’s keep going.
hello
can you please tell me to continue writing whatever the hell i am writing, because currently it seems like i'm writing nonsense
thank you
You too? Absolutely. You keep going and I'll keep going too.

I was scrolling through my dash and the Rizz Anon 3 question popped up amongst some Neil Gaimen responses and it took me like 20 posts before I went "hang on that was a weird vibe from Mr Gaimen" and I had to scroll up again
So congrats I guess on having a Neil Gaimen vibe in your answers?
oh, it's probably the british (sorry about that).
you know i haven't actually read any neil gaiman in my life. i know that feels like some sort of crime. i know that on paper, i should like neil gaiman. people tell me, since i love douglas adams so much, that i should like neil gaiman. a lot of people compare the two.
fact is i've never tried reading neil gaiman. i've tried watching some adaptations though, like good omens but - i just couldn't get into them. but i don't think that's fair. adaptations aren't the source material. i really didn't like the dirk gently series (i know a lot of people liked it. but the only people i know who liked it were americans. i thought all the british charm got lost in a very americanised adaptation.) - but i love the dirk gently books. i think it's probably the same case for neil gaiman. i should try and read the books. that's the thing with humor, actually - i think there's no way to recapture the kind of intimacy of humor you get from a book when it's adapted into a different medium. i love books that you hold close to your face because you're giggling into the pages. like it's a joke between you and the author. it feels so much more intimate than watching a movie or series that's been produced and has a budget and a cast of actors.
sorry - a lot of my answers here turn into a self-reflective ramble. all in all, this is to say, sci - read some neil gaiman.

Ngl reading the Sandman comics is really boosting my ego for the characterizations I fuckin NAILED for Morpheus in the RP I'm adapting and idk if it's the show managing to get these ideas across even without saying any of it or just the fact that Mr. Gaiman and I have the same sort of Blorbo Brain Rot
- bitch is going to fall in love in 0.2 seconds or over 500 years
- his ultimate type is anyone chasing him down
- 50% you gotta earn/prove it and 50% "my type is anyone who wants me"
- but also fuckall help you IF you pursue him bc congrats you played yourself and now he's obsessed
- all of you slept on my post saying "Dark Horse" is his ultimate theme song but I WAS RIGHT
- INSANE AND HORNY

@neil-gaiman Hey Mr. Gaiman! I just wanna say that you and the cast did absolutely amazing on the new season! Congrats! Made me laugh and cry. But I do have a question. The coffee that The Metatron gave Aziraphale, was it spiked or tempered with in anyway? I saw one or two people talk about it on Twitter and I went back to the scene and it seemed awkward and out of place…Aziraphale has high respect for The Metatron and if The Metatron wanted to talk to him, he would do it right away. He would still talk to him even without the offering of the Coffee. I dunno, it just seemed awkward and slightly out of place theory wise. And if Prime re-news Good Omens for a potential season 3, would the coffee have some part of it? It seems a bit dumb, but just a bit curious😊

Making this post my pinned for awhile in light of Mr. Gaiman… defending himself? clarifying his stance? sending his horde of fans after me? idk congrats/sorry that happened anyway if you’re curious as to why I could call this man a Zionist, feel free to Google “Zionism definition”
I love that people in my notes are calling Neil Gaiman a “random Jewish celebrity” that I’m baselessly attacking, as though: 1) “Israel has the right to exist” is not textbook Zionism; 2) he was not married to Amanda Palmer when she performed in Israel (in spite of calls for her not to do so); and, 3) he isn’t a wildly successful author and artist that this website worships
There are plenty of Jewish celebrities who give me no reason to think about their stance on Zionism! There are plenty of gentile celebrities who do! Get a grip!

Hello Mr Gaiman,
I was rewatching GO S1 before S2 comes out tomorrow and I was just wondering how Crowley is able to walk through heaven when him and Aziraphale switch bodies in ep 6 just fine but he can't walk through the church in ep 3 without being in pain. Surely heaven would burn him more than the church seeing as it is definitely more 'holy'.
Sorry if this doesn't make sense I was just curious.
Also congrats on Season 2!
This one is answered in the pinned post at the top of my blog.

American Gods 2x02 “The Beguiling Man” Review
I’d like to start this review off my giving a huge congratulations to the cast and crew of American Gods because they were renewed for Season 3!  Neil Gaiman’s been working closely with their new showrunner, Charles “Chic” Eglee, for the past few weeks to bring about their vision for a third season!  Congrats and welcome, Chic!
Now onto something just as equally exciting!
SHADOW MOON BACKSTORY! SHADOW MOON BACKSTORY! I don’t care about anything else that happened this episode. We got to see a side of Shadow Moon we’ve never seen before and Gabriel Darku did a fantastic job of bringing him to life! How did we get the Shadow Moon backstory? Well, that’s not at as fantastic.
You may know him as Mayhem from the Allstate commercials, but the wonderful Dean Winters is here as Mr. Town. Mr. Town was the one who had abducted Shadow from the diner in the last episode. He has Shadow strung up and connected to all these unpleasant-looking wires. Along with some, for lack of a better term, thugs, they plan to torture Shadow for information regarding Mr. Wednesday are well underway. Mr. Town is trying to figure out why Shadow is so important to Mr. Wednesday.
It’s through this torture that we get the flashbacks to a teenage Shadow coming to America with his single mother, played by Olunike Adeliyi. We see this pair and there is such a strong, fierce love between them. Shadow’s mother raised him to be kind, well-educated, and well-mannered. While out discovering his new neighborhood in Bushwick and trying to make some new friends, Shadow is jumped by a group of guys basically because he’s not one of them. They say things like, “You talk funny, like a white boy.” From the second Shadow went out to investigate his new surroundings, you just knew it wasn’t going to end well. Besides getting beat up, when he eventually got up and tried to run away, a few cops came and arrested him and the others. The innocence is being stripped away.
Throughout all these flashbacks we learn that it’s always just been Shadow and his mother. His father is dead and she will never tell Shadow anything more than that. These two lived in France for quite a time. It’s because of traveling that they did that Shadow is well-versed and respectful of different cultures. You can see that in how he reacts to all the different gods today. Another thing we learn is that Shadow’s mother died when he was still just a teenager, leaving him all alone in the world. She was sick and you see her get worse until she’s gone. Shadow, wanting to believe in anything, goes to a church to pray and grieve.
While Shadow is being tortured and reliving his past, Laura and Mad Sweeney are searching for him. Well, Laura is looking for him. Mad Sweeney refuses to let his lucky coin out of his sight. If he’s going to have to fight a war, he’s going to need his lucky coin. Laura is just as annoying as ever, but it appears that her super strength is kind of waning a bit. Sweeney certainly notices when they get a flat and Laura actually gets tired from holding the car up. She’s looking worse and worse each day and I can’t help but hope for her decomposing corpse to disappear one of these days.
However, that’s not today. After a touching moment between the two characters, they’re magically transported to a bridge with a train going by underneath them. Laura and her Shadow senses are tingling, so they hop on board the train. They are greeted by Mr. Town’s thugs. After a gruesome fight in which Laura actually slowly squashes a man’s HEAD, they are rewarded by discovering Shadow. He’s exhausted and definitely confused at seeing them.
One scene that gave me shivers was between Mr. World and Bilquis. Mr. World is just very creepy with his soft voice. None of the old gods had changed sides after Bilquis gave her pitch that you either change with the tides or die. If Bilquis knows one thing, it’s that Odin and the others just won’t fall under Mr. World’s command. None of them will give in to him. Bilquis, unfortunately, is trapped in his clutches, despite not being willing to choose a side. She refuses to fight for Mr. World and she’s seen as a traitor by the old gods. She has nowhere to go, really. The mighty and powerful Queen Bilquis looks the most vulnerable here and it’s breaking my heart.
While those are most definitely the darkest parts of the episode, some of the lighter aspects include Mr. Wednesday and Mr. Nancy. Orlando Jones constantly delivers with his comedic timing, even when you actually stop and think about what he’s saying isn’t actually funny. It’s the truth. The bit about Mr. Wednesday giving Mr. Nancy the fried chicken, while funny because of Orlando’s delivery, is actually incredibly ignorant, as it falls in line with certain prejudices and cliches.
It’s not quite clear what Mr. Wednesday is doing exactly, but it appears that he’s sacrificing his car at the end there. He and Mr. Nancy just abandon it on the train tracks. Mr. Wednesday wants to go to Valhalla, but Mr. Nancy has no intention of doing that, so they might be parting ways? It’s kind of hard to take a guess here.
We’re also getting closer to meeting a new character! Technical Boy was sent by Mr. World to track down Media after her disappearance. We catch up with Technical Boy in Times Square where he seems to have found her. Media appears to be giving him a pretty tough time in appearing in her new form, but she’s getting closer! I can’t wait to meet Kahyun Kim’s New Media!
Some thoughts on the episode:
Shadow’s backstory is all that matters this episode.
Bilquis makes me want to weep.
If Mad Sweeney could continue getting hurt in hilarious ways, that’d be pretty great! Pablo Schreiber’s pretty good with the physical comedy!
Loving the fact that the embrace in the field between Sweeney and Laura wasn’t romantic AT ALL. It was a way to transport from Point A to Point B.
I could’ve gone my whole life without seeing Laura step on that guy’s head.
American Gods airs on Sundays at 8/7c on Starz.
Sarah’s episode rating: 🐝🐝🐝

CRAFT RVA National Book Lovers Day!!!
I love books. I love the smell of them, the feel of them, and I love libraries. When I was a kid, I couldn't wait until it was my turn to do library duty because I loved books so much. When I was in New York, I read a lot more. Being on a subway for 45 minutes was 45 minutes of pure reading joy, but I find it harder, or rather, I have more excuses for not indulging in the written word these days. Unless you count Anne Marie Pace's "Vampirina Ballerina" or Andrea Beaty books (which are wonderful, by the way), I haven't really been doing much physical reading, unless you count real estate contracts and disclosures, reading.
Today I would like to celebrate National Book Lovers Day by mentioning RVA's wonderful literary culture. Thanks to bookstores like Chop Suey, Fountain Bookstore, BBGB for providing unique titles, local authors, readings, history lessons, children's literature, and just great places to hang out with literary content. I want to give a special shout out to local authors, Ward Howarth (River City Blues), congrats on being Richmond Magazine's "Best Local Author with a New Book" and congrats to Miss Valley Haggard for "The Halfway House for Writers" I cannot wait to delve into this. These are two people I've grown up with here in Richmond and it's inspiring to see them accomplish what I have wanted to do all my life. Maybe I'll get off my ass and actually do it now. I have to mention Slash Coleman, "The Bohemian Love Diaries". The way that Slash tells a story always touches my soul. I relate to him as a writer and he is one of my favorite storytellers because there's something very empathetic about how he writes that I just love.
Take today, carve out a little moment of time, and sit with your favorite book or you can enjoy these fun facts I have about my book experiences:
SOMEONE has my Neil Gaiman "Good Omens" book. Never let people "borrow" books, best to just give them because you won't be seeing them again! I obtained this favorite while working at Cinema n' Drafthouse from a bartender. It is one of my favorite books.
When asked, "what places do you find sexy", my immediate answer is Libraries, old, beautiful libraries.
I have three dedicated books when reading: 1 - The Bathtub Book - (currently and coincidentally, "American Gods", by Neil Gaiman. 2 - The Bedside Table Book (currently Valley Haggard's "The Halfway House for Writers") and 3 - the Travel/Beach/Pool Book (currently, nada since I haven't been anywhere or done anything this Summer!)
When I was in 5th or 6th grade I brought home books on the occult and exorcisms. My mom immediately threw them outside and told me to never bring such evil in the house again. So I read about it at the library.
I love to be read to by men and I found through the years that men loved to be read to.
I have many genres I favor. I love a good fantasy novel. I have an affinity for young adult books, I have no shame in indulging in a good emotionally charged, tragic coming of age romance that may or may not involve mystical creatures.  I have to say my favorite is memoirs. There's nothing richer than reading about how someone else lived.
I've been completely ignored for books before. If i had written a novel on my body, he probably would have realized my story was more interesting.
I've had a few people sign books for me. Funny thing, the only one that made me gush was an art book. Thank you, Mark Ryden. I'm coming after you, Mr. Gaiman!
My favorite autobio is Miles Davis. If you haven't read this, you'll love it.
My favorite book as a kid was "A Wrinkle in Time". My favorite book as an adolescent was anything by Anne Rice. The book that got me into enjoying English class was Nathaniel West, "Miss Lonelyhearts" and to this day is one of my faves. The book that I resembles my life the most is "The Joy Luck Club".
The majority of my reading growing up was through comic books.
My favorite place to read in Richmond is Libby Hill in Church Hill.
I have never read "To Kill a Mockingbird". Yeah, I know...
I won a bookmark contest in 4th grade. I got a McDonald's watch and a letter from Ronald Reagan. I should have started questioning then...artist? writer? Hmmm...
What are your book stories? Hit me up on Facebook and let's chat!

the weasel thing is also close to a joke in cabin pressure! (which you should definitely listen to here if you haven't already)
the crew go to Ottery-st-Mary and Arthur asks why it's called that, prompting Douglas to answer that obviously and famously, st mary was martyred by being eaten alive by rabid otters (who are all in heaven now and have made up)
congrats mr gaiman, i'm sure john finnemore would be glad to know you have a small mammal joke in common (maybe more than one? guess i'll wait and see)
Are you sure ‘The Sandman’ is safe? Because Netflix just reversed its order of a second season (third and fourth ‘part’) from ‘Inside Job’, so I was wondering.
Define “safe”.
Netflix could go out of business before more Sandman launches. A new, nightmarish pestilence could close the world down completely. The actors could all be eaten by weasels and the show would be shuttered.
But if there’s a Netflix and nothing unforeseen and tragic happens to close the world or the show down, then there will be more Sandman.

Hello, Mr Gaiman. Hope you're doing well!
I know I've written you before, but if I may just one more time as I wanted to ask this question to a more experienced writer.
I'm about to have my first comic series officialy published. The first two issues are written and I'm working on the final two now. It's been my dream since I was 12 and I've worked liked crazy ever since to make it happen. You'd think that reaching such a major goalpost would be elating but instead, the primary emotions I feel are maddening stress and crippling imposter syndrome. Don’t get me wrong, I love my job and I count my blessings, and I know this is what I’m meant to be doing. But wow, I am way more shit scared than I thought I would be, and the doubt sits with me like the devil on my shoulder!
And I wondered, as someone whose been down this path time and time again, if you ever felt anything like this in your early days? Maybe you still do, or know others who have? Would love to hear the thoughts of someone whose been there, done that, got the t-shirt, etc.
P.S. Your incredible work and writing advice really helps keep me afloat, as it does for many. And congrats on Good Omens, Sandman and everything else! I cannot WAIT to see it all. Thank you so much for all the work you've done to put everything out there for all us dreamy nerds<3
Hope you have a lovely day!
That was what Sandman 8 was about, really. The emotions you feel when you get where you wanted to go for so long. And now you're there you don't feel how you expected to feel.

Fuck! You suddenly became popular for like the 1,000th time. Congrats! I’ve been reading your amazing stories, Mr. Gaiman since I was…12? 1998 or 1999. My brother introduced me through the Books of Magic. Timothy, ah. Amazing tale. 😊
Just to let you all know I'm currently getting many hundreds of Asks a day. I'm used to getting more asks than I can ever answer, but right now I'm getting more than I can ever read.
