RUN BTS: THE SERIES

I wasn't part of the Fandom when most of these episodes were newly released. I have watched entire series many times though and would like to share some thoughts about each one (especially as we have current event context). so while we wait for the return of a regular BTS episodic show, I'd like to do another RUNthrough of Run BTS (see what I did there?)

Here are the items I plan to discuss with each episode. I'd like to invite anyone who's up for it to rewatch and share your thoughts as well, especially if you have any fun facts relevant to what was happening at the same time as the original airing.

Production: How successful the episode is as a variety show, including but not limited to: exposition, editing, set design, utilization of locations.

Endearment: How successful it is in showcasing the charms of BTS and making the audience want to engage in more of their content.

Winner/Loser: many episodes have an ultimate winner/loser. I will absolutely spoil this so please watch first if you haven't.

Best Cheater: BTS has the best cheaters! Who do I personally think was the best one in each episode? (This is all in good fun and not actually malicious).

Member Moments: a moment or quote from each member that stands out to me each episode.

Overall Rank: my personal rank of the episode on a scale of 1-5 of how much I enjoyed it, including the Production and Endearment notes above.

Ebony suit in lieu of a sword. Ink on a non-disclosure agreement instead of an oath of fealty and valor. Reno was supposed to die for ShinRa, wasn’t he? His life was not his own — forfeit to the President, and the secrets cradled within the palms of his hands. Knowing he was destined to die young, Reno had always figured he might have died with a decent amount of gil in his pocket and in a blaze of fire instead of decrepit and rotting in the slums of Sector 7. Fate had been accepted . . at least a quick one. An end which came on like the movement of viscous molasses tested a man’s resolve however.

A finger nail was pulled free. It was all for the President.

A hunting knife penetrated his foot. It was all for the President.

A hammer, heated over a fire, scalded and broke right hand. He willed a stronger image to his mind — that of his fellow Turks.

The line between pain and numbness blended messily. End me. Just do it. He heard his own voice in his ears but did not feel the sensation of mouth moving or vocal chords exercising noise other than yells of agony. Just pull the trigger. I won’t break. Reno wanted his glorious death and received neither glory nor death. He saw blood in his eyes and the silhouette of a revolver. ShinRa’s secrets would remain inside Reno’s mind even when brain was to be destroyed by the power of gunpowder.

The secrets he kept. The secrets they kept.

The muzzle pointed at his thigh instead of his temple, and stars exploded within his eyesight and ears. Like the static of a radio at full volume echoing inside his mind. Nails gripped his central nervous system, clutching and ripping as the warm muzzle pressed against his shoulder. The meat of his lip was inside his mouth, and the secrets remained sealed. It wasn’t alarming nor disheartening waking up in the sterile bleakness of the ShinRa medical ward. Wholeness may have not been maintained, but he was alive. He flexed the fingers of his right hand and then his left. He flexed toes of both feet.

Alive. Whole. Mind was swirling in a haze in the aftermath of heavy materia usage and surgery. Had he become an experiment of the twisted Hojo? He tested his vision, and when Reno pulled away blanket and medical gown, the familiar creaminess of in tact flesh soothed his mind. No scars were present on his hands or his foot, however . . he laughed. No one truly escaped free from the burdens of their pas; Reno knew better than most. The pad of his pointer finger circled around the bubbled flesh of the bullet wound. ShinRa’s brand. A reminder that Reno of the Turks was loyal through and through.

- Daphne Oz was demonstrating some quick gift wrapping tips when Kerry Morton entered The Ring set and called out Starboy Charlie. Kerry Morton questioned Starboy about his commitment to The Southern 6 following last week when Marcus Mathers dragged Alex Taylor back to the ring setting up Taylor to be pinned by Giant Baba Yaga. Charlie reminded Kerry Morton that Starboy isn't a member of the Southern 6 and that they had something good going in CORE before Kerry brought Silas Mason and Alex Taylor here. But Starboy said this isn't about Morton choosing The Southern 6 over their faction. And this isn't about Starboy choosing Marcus Mathers over Kerry Morton. Starboy said it's about him choosing himself. With that Charlie walked off the set where Marcus Mathers could be seen waiting for him.

- Daphne, Veda, Sam, and Alyssa reviewed some of the new Christmas albums released this year, including the new records from Cher, the latest from Seth MacFarlane with special guest Elizabeth Gillies, and "Missile Toes," the second Christmas record from Smash Mouth. The Ring Crew is joined for the next match by Shaw Mason and Hunter Holdcraft.

Tim Bosby vs. "King Of Jersey Shore" Zack Clayton Tim Bosby defeated Zack Clayton with a rip cord lariat.

- Shaw Mason and Hunter Holdcraft made their way to ringside after the match. Bosby asked Mason when this was going to stop. Mason said that last week during a tag match against The Andersons, Hunter Holdcraft knocked a foreign object out of Brock Anderson's hand, and instead of picking that weapon up Hunter kicked it out of the ring. Mason said that yes, they almost lost the match because of the time Hunter spent making that decision, but that in that moment Mason gained some perspective on the value of doing things the right way. Shaw Mason admitted that while he still believes Bosby cheated in their first match, he couldn't prove it, so during their match on Thanksgiving Shaw planted the foreign object on Bosby to frame him. Bosby thanked Shaw Mason for finally telling the truth, but that he also has something to confess. Bosby said Shaw was right, he did cheat during their first match and he also cheated in his match against Tom Lawlor. Shaw Mason told Bosby that he admired his honesty, but what he admired even more was his competitive spirit. Mason said when he saw Holdcraft debate picking up that weapon but deciding not to, and that all that accomplished was almost costing them the match, he realized that he doesn't want to be partners with some goody two shoes that is afraid to do whatever it takes to win. Mason said that he wants the match on Christmas night against The 37KAMIINA, but that he needs a man with guts like Bosby re-join him in folkstyle so they can beat the 2023 Trios Kingdom winners. Hunter Holdcraft interrupted, saying that he has no idea what has gotten into Shaw and Bosby, but folkstyle can't have a trios match because he wants nothing to do with either of them. Bosby said that's alright, because he has the perfect replacement member in mind already. Mason told Bosby he should have said that sooner, and the two men attacked Hunter Holdcraft. Mason and Bosby each grabbed a leg and applied the ankle lock to Holdcraft until Giant Baba Yaga and Fuego Del Sol made the save.

he was nervous, obviously. its not always easy telling someone you really like how you truly feel. especially if you’ve lost them before.

you heart started beating as you two sat in silence for a while. “uh-“ “i-“ you both laughed. you grabbed jungwon’s hand and started playing with it. “so basically i love you? which is weird bc we only got together a week ago yk? but knowing i’ve liked you from middle school, it wouldn’t be insane to say i love you. bc i know i do. everything about you.” jungwon finished as he looked at you.

you smiled and kissed his cheek softly. “i love you too. so fucking much.” you said blushing. “thats all you have to say to my whole confession” jungwon scoffed jokingly. you playfully rolled your eyes as you laughed. “you’re lucky you’re cute” he said kissing your cheek.

everything was going well. your life started getting back on track and you had the person you love with you. you couldn’t have been happier.

crackle. boom. hiss.

you hate now the thunder sounds like an evil monster growling, the way the lightning looks like an alien is about to abduct you, and the way the rain is thrown onto your windows. it leaves you in the position you're in now: under the blankets, cowering down with your hands over your ears. you quietly hum to keep the sound away, but it isnt of much use.

Yeonho, just in his room next door, notices you've gone extremely quiet since the thunder hit. he gets worried and opens his door, quietly padding over to your room.

knock knock.

"y/n, can i come in?" he asks, sweetly.

you nod, then realize he can't see you, so you give him a verbal affirmation to come in.

when he finds you as a lump under your sheets, he immediately rushes forwards and pulls everything away, revealing you in your shaking state.

"y/n? is everything okay?!" he asks, worried.

"i-i'm scared.." you stutter in a hushed tone.

the thunder growls again and you flinch.

Yeonho has a worried expression on his face as he reaches to shut your curtains. he then finds your earphones on your desk, connects them to your phone, removes your hands from your ears, replaces them with the earbuds and starts to play one of your comfort songs.

"hey," Yeonho says, after removing one of your earbuds.

"is it okay if i get on your bed with you and hold you?" he asks.

you slowly nod, feeling like you're in a dream when Yeonho cafefully climbs on your bed, shifts so he's behind you and helps you lay beside him. he wraps his arms around your waist and pulls you close; your back is against his chest. once again, you place both earbuds in your ears and block out the thunder, and Yeonho's hums as he sings along to the faint sound of your music.

you look down and see Yeonho's hands, one of them drawing circles at your hip. suddenly, your calmed heart starts racing again as you realize that Yeonho, your roommate and literal crush is holding you in your own bed right now.

his hand moves up to pat and massage your head, and he shyly stares at part of your exposed neck. he kind of wants to feel it with his fingertips; it looks so soft... but he doesn't want to cross any boundaries.

suddenly, you turn around in his arms and face him. his face is red, and you assume it's just because of your shared body heat.

"boop," you say, gently poking his nose and smiling at the way his entire face scrunches up.

you remove an earbud as Yeonho starts to speak.

"do you feel better, now?" he asks.

"yeah," you say, even as thunder crackles on around your house. the sound doesn't bother you anymore.

"then i don't have an excuse to cuddle you when it's stormy anymore?" Yeonho says while pouting.

"why would you need an excuse?" you ask, burying your face in his chest. you can hear the way his heart hammers.

"b-because..."

the two of you are silent, with Yeonho buffering as you give him butterflies and you enjoying his scent as you hold him close.

"y/n," Yeonho softly calls out.

"hm?" you answer.

"i-if we're going to keep doing this as friends, i don't think my heart can take it. s-so... either agree to date me or... stop holding me like this," Yeonho says, clearly nervous.

you smile up at him, but he looks unsure.

"why would i ever stop holding you?" you ask, patting his head.

Yeonho still looks confused, and you sigh.

"i'll date you, Yeonho. only if you'll date me too," you say.

Yeonho's smile returns to his face again as he says, "isn't that a given?"

you shyly trace his lips with your thumbs.

as you look into Yeonho's eyes, you ask if you can kiss him. as soon as he nods, you lean in, pressing a quick but soft kiss to his plump lips. he smiles the entire time, pulling you closer.

"do i now have permission to cuddle with you even when it's not stormy?" Yeonho asks.

you nod, placing your head on his chest, again.
