Hinny 💍 - The One With No Voldy and Where Everyone Lives

AU, where Harry happens to hear a conversation between his grandfather, Fleamont Potter, and his father, James. Fleamont, who has been looking weaker by the day, tells his son he knows his and Euphemia's time is coming to an end, and his only regret is not being able to witness Harry grow up and get married. This bothers Harry, and while on a playdate at the Burrow, he confides in Ginny, who responds as if it were the most obvious solution: "Then let's get married."

They persuade their families to arrange a gathering, and they con the Weasley brothers into decorating the backyard. Ron stands by Harry's side as his best man, while Luna is Ginny's bridesmaid. All it took was one look from Harry and Ginny to convince Sirius to turn into Padfoot to be their ring bearer/flower girl; his outfit consisted of a bowtie and a tutu (James, Remus, Gideon, and Fabian nearly fell off their chairs laughing so hard).

They made each other's wedding rings. Harry's ring was made from the metal from his grandma's old Auror badge (which Euphemia gave to her willingly) and the very first snitch he caught for the first time and gifted to her. Ginny convinced Fabian and Gideon to transform into a ring. Ginny's ring was made of her favorite green bubble gum (that was suspiciously similar to Harry's eye color) and twigs of their broomsticks as the band, which Harry convinced his dad and Sirius to smooth out and place an unbreakable charm on with an auto-replenishing charm on the bubble gum.

They both dressed themselves for the occasion, and Harry asked his mom and godmother Marlene to help him pick flowers for Ginny's bouquet. He smelled each one and was very picky persistent it had to smell like Ginny's hair. It took Harry HOURS until he was finally satisfied with the arrangement. Molly volunteered to make their wedding cake, and a few days before the wedding, Ginny told her dad in a very grown-up tone to wear a bowtie because he was walking her down the aisle on Sunday. Hinny asked Hagrid to marry them, and when it was time to kiss the bride, Harry was just about to protest/lecture Hagrid about how he should have asked Ginny for her consent instead of giving him permission "to kiss the bride" (the boy was Lily Potter's son and a true feminist at heart), when Ginny pulled Harry down and gave Harry a big kiss on the lips. The kid was frozen for a solid minute and then couldn't stop smiling as he followed his 'wife' around all day.

They made Fleamont and Euphemia's wishes come true.

Then, 16 years later, they got married again.

Lets talk about June Chen in ¨Welcome to Necrocomic-con¨ episode

In this episode Ollie tries confronting his parents about how no all ghosts are evil. While Esther and Ruben congratulate him for being an empathetic person, they still insist that ghosts are pure evil.

On the other hand June asks Ollie why he would say something like that and Ollie explains to her that it was a ¨good ghost¨ who made the cannister work. This makes June, who spent most of the episode trying to find an answer of why the cannister worked when it shouldn't have , question things and decide to help Molly and Ollie by taking the canister away from Ruben and Esther.

While one could find this change of mind quite sudden for her character, i think to some extent it does make sense given the context and how June's character works based on her potrayal in the episode.

Unlike Ollie, June gives off the impression to be more open minded to new information and maybe more ¨logical driven¨. The thing that made her turn around was finding an explanation about why the canister did work in ¨Frightmares on Main Street¨ and that she was right about how it shouldn't have worked naturally without Scratch's intervention.

A lot of her change of mind also seems to come from curiosity rather than doing the correct thing. Sure, she mentions how she doesn't want to use her tech to hurt ghosts who are good and she is doing this because she doesn't want to put ¨good ghosts¨ in danger.

However, there is an emphasis in her lines that show that she wants to get answers to why this happened. She mentions how she wants to run some experiments and she doesn't take time in quickly asking Scratch questions, whom is very happy to have someone who is willing to learn from his about ghosts.

This is interesting because it is a different route to the one Ollie's character had after ¨Frightmares on Main Street¨. In June's case, she wants to see what things she was wrong about and quickly takes an interest in learning about ghosts' true nature. It is possible this could become a new interest or hyperfixation for her, which intrigues me where it could go from here.

Another thing worth of bringing up is that being a ghosthunter doesn't seem to be nearly as important to her identity as it was for Ollie. In contrast, Ollie saw himself more as a hero that was protecting others when he was still a ghosthunter while June is something that she does out of ¨family tradition¨.

So while we didn't know a lot about June Chen before, ¨Welcome to Necrocomic-con¨ left clear that she is more open minded in contrast to her brother Ollie and she sees things with a more scientific mind, in the sense that likes running tests and she is more willing to relearn things when proven wrong about something.

It’s missing welcome to necronomi-con.

Which, based on the episode description, it seems like it would be pretty important, especially for Ollie’s character arc and the Chen family as a whole. But I haven’t seen it! I got up to Jinx vs. the human world wondering when Ollie’s character arc is gonna be wrapped up, Frightmare on Main Street was building the Chen family up as these big, exciting antagonists and I spent SO LONG wondering when they were gonna give narrative pay off. Turns out I just missed it! I missed the payoff to one of my favourite plotlines of season 2! I missed it.

Molly just feels like the most tragic character to me and every time I think about how a goddess called him, "Empty. Free. Obsessed…Death-obsessed, but free" it really hits me--

Molly stopping to examine the graves from centuries ago left forgotten on the side of the road. Molly suggesting that he and Beau should walk around a cemetery when they take skein and start seeing little ghostly creatures from the astral sea. Molly finding a silk flower for Yasha at the festival, giving it to her in the very episode before he dies because, "[I] got it for you in case we live--"

Molly hiding how painfully young and tormented he is for as long as he can, spinning every imaginable story to prevent his new family from learning that his life started from a cold empty grave. Molly always believing he was living on borrowed time, throwing his life on the line again and again, recklessly self-sacrificial and fiercely protective.

I don't know. Just hearing Taliesin talk a bit about the inspiration for Molly the other day and the thought of just how long he lived under the shadow of death, running from the Eyes and Lucien and a turbulent past--how he felt drawn to the grave again and again, and the moments when he learned to love living--

The small noise that Buck whimpers out is completely involuntary. It falls from his lips, unbidden and distressed, fluttering into the stifling air hanging between their bodies. The pressure on his throat increases, John’s fingers curling tighter. He thinks it’s just another warning, waiting for John’s hand to relax like before. But it doesn’t, the pressure becoming more and more uncomfortable. 

Panic slams into Buck’s gut, fear hiccuping in his lungs as his next inhale meets resistance. His hands twitch at his sides in an aborted movement to reach out and shove John away. But he can’t— he can’t because John’s threat against Eddie is still hanging heavy in the air. He has to keep him distracted so he doesn’t—

Bang! Buck jumps, briefly pressing against John’s hand before he pulls back again. There’s another bang, the doors of the elevator reverberating with the noise as several more metallic thuds follow in quick succession. Over the cacophony Buck swears he can hear someone calling his name. Straining his ears, Buck’s stomach swoops with a dizzying combination of dread and relief. It’s Eddie— Eddie is banging on the elevator and calling for Buck. 

Buck wants to call back, he wants to scream at Eddie to get far away, he wants to cry for help, he wants to— the hand tightening around his throat violently throws him back into the present moment, the possibility of calling out to Eddie dying in his throat along with his last stuttered inhale.

Ollie Chen and family expectations

The episode ¨Welcome to Necrocomic-con¨ has Ollie being conflicted with the idea of confronting his parents with the idea that not all ghosts are evil. Ollie tells Molly that their parents have dedicated most of their lives to ghosthunting and that ¨they'll never understand¨.

If there is something that clearly defines Ollie is his fear of letting other people down, specially when it comes to his family. Based on the dialogue from this episode Ollie has been avoiding bringing up the events from ¨Frightmares on Main Street¨ to the rest of the Chens until this point. He doesn't know how to confront his parents about this since part of him wasn't to let them down but at the same time he doesn't like having to lie to them.

This is a conflict probably a lot of young people can relate to. In many families the kids feel themselves forced to hide things from their parents out of fear of disappointing them or getting rejected. This can involve different things like hiding to hide a part of oneself, having hobbies one's parents don't approve of or hanging out with people the parents don't like.

Instead of talking to his parents, Ollie suggests trying to take the Phantom Canister from them. Molly thinks it would easier for them if Ollie tried talking to them since taking the canister sounds more complicated. Both Molly and Ollie try taking the canister again and again by distracting the Chens and grabbing the canister when they aren't looking. Their multiple attemps fail, which leads to Molly to ask Ollie to confront his parents.

So Ollie brings up that they shouldn't show the canister to other people as an evidence that ghosts exist. He talks about how some ghosts can be good and they don't mean any harm all while Ruben and Esther listen to all his speech.

Both Ruben and Esther praise Ollie for being a very empathetic person and hug him. However they quickly ¨correct¨ their son, telling him that he is wrong and that ghosts are pure evil. They haven't considered what Ollie said to them and keep their prejudiced views about ghosts, just like Ollie brought up to Molly earlier.

On the other hand, June asks to Ollie why he would say something like that. Ollie explains that it was a ¨good ghost¨ the one who made the canister work last time, leaving June conflicted about giving the canister to their parents.

A minute later is revealed that June switched the phantom canister for a toy, taking the risk of making her family look ridiculous in front of all people in the convention. Once outside June gives the canister to Ollie and mentions how she is interested in learning stuff about ghosts from Scratch who is more than happy to help her.

In the end Ollie was right that his parents' views are a lot more harder to change because they have grown all their lives dedicated to ghosthunting, but, Molly was also right about Ollie trying to confront his family about their views since in June did listened and considered what Ollie told her, helping Ollie and Molly getting the phantom canister.
