i have spent the last 12 hours in the fight of my life against my computer. i booted it up last night and couldn’t open any programs or settings or the context menu or anything. since then i have done several restarts, many of them in safe mode (the only way i could even get into safe mode was by interrupting windows startup (also one of those safe mode boots every time i clicked it opened a new edge window)), multiple reinstalls of windows, and am currently on my second complete wipe of both of my drives. if this doesn’t work i am well and truly going to become the joker

Never thought I'd get weepy over a software presentation keynote and yet, here we are
So for those of you who don't know, I use ProCreate. It's the only art program I've touched in at least five years, and aside from brief stints in my sketchbook, I've done everything in it. The animations I've done last year and this year were all done in ProCreate, which is strictly a drawing and photo editing software and animation was kind of built in as an afterthought. As such, the animation capabilities of ProCreate are kind of... nonexistent. Clunky at best, and I had no way to add sound. And because of how ProCreate's animation worked, I couldn't do long or particularly complex animation. Which is fine, like, I'm still learning how to animate in the first place. But we really are limited by the capabilities of our tools, and as much as I love ProCreate for static art, it left a ton to be desired in the animation department.
But the team that made ProCreate just announced they've made animation software. Not "are making," have made. And it's robust. It covers everything a full animation studio would do with multiple different softwares, all in one app. I can't even begin to say how excited I am for this. And it's only $20, where equally powerful—or hell, even less powerful—desktop animation software would easily cost $500 or more.
I'm so excited! I'll finally be able to follow along in a ton of the animation lessons I own! I couldn't do that before, because of ProCreate's limitations. Mostly the lack of animation timeline and I couldn't add sound—you know, the two most vital aspects of animation. But now I'll be able to! I just have to be patient until the end of November and fork over $20. And then? Then I'll be unstoppable.
I'm gonna conquer the fucking world, y'all.

Just to keep you all pupdated, I haven't done the next Movie Gifsets (Chase and then Zuma) or any other for that matter yet because I dragged my desktop computer to a tech support last week to find out what the hell is wrong with it.
Long story short, this computer has been dying on me since early 2020. It was back to working perfectly now back in January but now it died again and refused to stay the fuck on for longer than 4 or 5 minutes- that is, WHENEVER it even turned on, because most times it didn't get to even finish starting up. And it starts up in like one minute, so that's saying something.
I do have a laptop, that's how I'm still able to teach my online classes, but it's absurdly slow and crashes constantly with any effort bigger than opening a videocall.

Actually quite frankly there is a Very fucking long post to be made about SSO’s current issue on balancing graphic improvements while also making sure that their game is fucking playable and runnable on even overqualified computers but I am Not qualified enough to make it and I do not have the words to properly formulate what I mean but the tldr is that SSE has had this problem for a while now where they’re So desperate to improve their graphics and general game mechanics but still have So much spaghetti code left while also having graphic that is over 20 years old still in the game that we’re in a very weird limbo where the game is both unoptimized as hell but also trying so badly to catch up to modern standards that we’re all lost in a sauce of 20 FPS to 80 FPS on the same computers depending on where you are in the game and that’s not even mentioning the Huge fucking issue of how a multiplayer game that is already terrible at being a multiplayer actively fucking loses itself in the framerate sauce as soon as more than 2% of the server population decides to do a championship

Decided that since my old laptop is generally fine and not blue-screening when not in danger of being moved about (but, ya know, if it's jostled slightly wrong from my dog kicking it in her sleep, it crashes), I'm gonna use it to create an at home data backup system, aka a DIY cloud.
Currently looking at various freeware options and Syncthing looks super easy to set up and use. And it's open source, which is always a plus in my books.
It's got syncing between computers. It has the option for versioning (different types to choose from) so if a file gets deleted there is a copy to restore from. And you can choose which folders are synced between which computers.
And because it's an at home thing, I can add space to it over time for backing up my audiobooks that I striped the DRM off of so I can play them on plex, all my music, dvd backups that I also play on plex, etcetera. Seems like a good idea anyway and my adhd brain is always looking for new fun projects to play with.
But also, should be super easy to replace the laptop running the syncthing backup without losing data should my laptop decide crashing when it's just sitting in one place every day is cool too.
My other computer project I'm gonna work on is creating a pi-hole firewall because I've never been totally pleased with the firewall box I've got set up already. It's run fine for years but it's getting old and I dunno how much longer it'll be supported, while pi-hole seems more customizable/to my tastes. So it's getting to be a good time to update that setup anyway. Also I've just... always wanted an excuse to play with a raspberry pi and this seems like a good one.
