hey mecha, do you think you could beat metal sonic in a 1v1
#mecha sonic#metal sonic#sonic fanart#sonic fandom#welcome back to the worlds worst siblings#also weclome back to: weird written text for characters who dont have normal speech. wehehe#it was fun for fake pep's garbled distorted sounds so i do it again for metal's angry computer noises#metal being mute is such an important part of his character to me.......#the way i see it is like hes perfectly capable of speech he just doesn't have the hardware for it#but he still tries. with his angry computer beep boops. n' those sounds r what the text like this is meant to represent visually#n e way the actual code is just morse but using a couple sets of different symbols.#'' i could run circles around him'' / ''he wouldn't land a hit on me''#mecha knows the audience can't understand metal. but he can#so he's continuing to present his own answer while also sorta underhandedly replying to metal#anyway good ask. they should kill eachother.#they're speed+agility vs. power+defense builds to me. so the real answer for 'who would win'#is whoever manages to stay level-headed and not get pissed off the longest. which could go either way depending on the circumstances.#arting#msab

i have spent the last 12 hours in the fight of my life against my computer. i booted it up last night and couldn’t open any programs or settings or the context menu or anything. since then i have done several restarts, many of them in safe mode (the only way i could even get into safe mode was by interrupting windows startup (also one of those safe mode boots every time i clicked it opened a new edge window)), multiple reinstalls of windows, and am currently on my second complete wipe of both of my drives. if this doesn’t work i am well and truly going to become the joker
#et cetera#ive never encountered anything like this before…#not even in my years of computer repair lab or lan club…#if this doesn’t work it must be a hardware issue?? but i don’t know what part would even be the culprit…

Never thought I'd get weepy over a software presentation keynote and yet, here we are
So for those of you who don't know, I use ProCreate. It's the only art program I've touched in at least five years, and aside from brief stints in my sketchbook, I've done everything in it. The animations I've done last year and this year were all done in ProCreate, which is strictly a drawing and photo editing software and animation was kind of built in as an afterthought. As such, the animation capabilities of ProCreate are kind of... nonexistent. Clunky at best, and I had no way to add sound. And because of how ProCreate's animation worked, I couldn't do long or particularly complex animation. Which is fine, like, I'm still learning how to animate in the first place. But we really are limited by the capabilities of our tools, and as much as I love ProCreate for static art, it left a ton to be desired in the animation department.
But the team that made ProCreate just announced they've made animation software. Not "are making," have made. And it's robust. It covers everything a full animation studio would do with multiple different softwares, all in one app. I can't even begin to say how excited I am for this. And it's only $20, where equally powerful—or hell, even less powerful—desktop animation software would easily cost $500 or more.
I'm so excited! I'll finally be able to follow along in a ton of the animation lessons I own! I couldn't do that before, because of ProCreate's limitations. Mostly the lack of animation timeline and I couldn't add sound—you know, the two most vital aspects of animation. But now I'll be able to! I just have to be patient until the end of November and fork over $20. And then? Then I'll be unstoppable.
I'm gonna conquer the fucking world, y'all.
#bobbi's being weird again#art#procreate#procreate dreams#animation#animation software#animation app#I did legit get all misty-eyed tho lol#mostly at the ''we firmly believe that your art belongs to YOU'' part when he was saying they don't collect data#I just hope my iPad can handle it#he's getting on in age as far as computer hardware goes#*pats Apollo* you've been so good to me buddy ilu so much 💜#yes I named my iPad Apollo :)#but anyway yeah seriously I'm so excited holy shit this is everything I've ever wanted re: 2D animation software yes yes yes#now I just need a robust and powerful 3D modeling and animation software for my iPad and I'll become like unto a god

Just to keep you all pupdated, I haven't done the next Movie Gifsets (Chase and then Zuma) or any other for that matter yet because I dragged my desktop computer to a tech support last week to find out what the hell is wrong with it.
Long story short, this computer has been dying on me since early 2020. It was back to working perfectly now back in January but now it died again and refused to stay the fuck on for longer than 4 or 5 minutes- that is, WHENEVER it even turned on, because most times it didn't get to even finish starting up. And it starts up in like one minute, so that's saying something.
I do have a laptop, that's how I'm still able to teach my online classes, but it's absurdly slow and crashes constantly with any effort bigger than opening a videocall.
#Gotta love tech issues#I rebuilt this computer from scratch with the best parts of hardware I couldn't even afford back then#I'm in debt with a bank because of that oops#I'll pay them properly someday#ANYWAY yeah I'll wait for my computer to come back to life

why can’t I be unconditionally happy for once in my goddamn life why do I always have to be cursed with hardware malfunction or data loss a week before any given deadline
#okay always is exaggerated but I had hardware malfunction last year for the final week of group work on a big project#and now the most important files of my bachelor project are damaged#if I don’t see a recent backup on my computer at uni tomorrow I’m gonna strangle my past self#already strangling my past self for being too lazy to set up git for my cleaned up project#this could have been prevented so easily but I continue to be a dumbass#otherwise life is going great!! like literally hadn’t been this happy in a while!!#that’s probably why this happened tho because I’m not allowed to catch a break#sina’s rambling#uni tag#<- for the last time hopefully…#gonna be so happy when I can get back to my wip drawings#been thinking about them way too much lately#also new chapter soon I’m very excited#and tachi’s big day part 2 on wednesday ^_^#delete later#or tomorrow morning I’m going to bed now because there is nothing I can do today to fix this

Actually quite frankly there is a Very fucking long post to be made about SSO’s current issue on balancing graphic improvements while also making sure that their game is fucking playable and runnable on even overqualified computers but I am Not qualified enough to make it and I do not have the words to properly formulate what I mean but the tldr is that SSE has had this problem for a while now where they’re So desperate to improve their graphics and general game mechanics but still have So much spaghetti code left while also having graphic that is over 20 years old still in the game that we’re in a very weird limbo where the game is both unoptimized as hell but also trying so badly to catch up to modern standards that we’re all lost in a sauce of 20 FPS to 80 FPS on the same computers depending on where you are in the game and that’s not even mentioning the Huge fucking issue of how a multiplayer game that is already terrible at being a multiplayer actively fucking loses itself in the framerate sauce as soon as more than 2% of the server population decides to do a championship
#Listen#It's not looking good right now#I think this will solve itself with time as SSE finally start throwing out the old graphics for real#But quite frankly as it is right now they don't have that time to spare#Especially when they've even talked themselves about how a huge challenge for them is trying to improve their game while also knowing that#huge parts of their playerbase are kids but also people in less developed countries where the internet and hardware quality isn't as up to#date as say in average Sweden or America#And I get that that's a huge fucking challenge but that's tbfh even more of a reason to make sure your game Stays optimized#Like this is coming from someone on an overqualified computer#This game is unplayable at times#Even for me#And that is Not good considering that I know my computer is better than your average sso players#Anyways this is why I'm a huge advocate for a hide all players button because genuinely being able to hide most of the lag sources in this#game is both good for us old fucks who can't stand playing with kids but it's also#a super good fix it plaster while SSE works on actually fixing the issue

Playing sonic unleashed the way god intended (emulated on a macbook)
#/j obviously#if you're wondering how it runs: it's so weirdly inconsistent#i do have a copy of the game for the ps3 but it runs so badly#it's constantly eating my button inputs which is bad when half the game is a beat em up combo masher#(well and also it's my dad's ps3 and i'm usually not in town to borrow it. so i was interested in trying to emulate it)#meanwhile on my computer#the highs are better than the ps3 but the lows are way worse lmao#i'd go as far as to say like 70% of the game runs smoother than it does on the actual console#but there are some parts it just doesn't know how to handle. too many guys on screen and the fps tanks#tbf to the rpcs3 guys they've done a crazy amount of improvement on this emulator!#there is this one part in rooftop run night that i used to get TWO fps in. it now hovers around 15-20fps#which obviously is still pushing the definition of 'playable.' but i am doing this for fun and blasphemy so its fine#sorry lmao getting games to run on apple silicon hardware that aren't supposed to is a special interest of mine#sega won't remaster this game themselves because they hate money i guess 🙄#spooky talks.txt#2am musings of a madman

#Coming here to say that I wish I had someone to hold my hand to build a PC with#I am absolutely garbage at the hardware side of computers and there's way too many parts and numbers and names for me to understand#and I don't want to drop a thousand fucking dollars on something pre-built when i can build myself a computer for less than 500#I just am so fucking stupid when it comes to the parts and I wish i had someone here with me to do it and help me#I need a new computer really badly as the one i'm using is pretty old and buggy at this point#i can't play any of my games on it (Balders Gate 3 doesn't even run on the lowest settings)#I just wish there was an easier#way to do this on your own without feeling like your getting scammed at every turn

Decided that since my old laptop is generally fine and not blue-screening when not in danger of being moved about (but, ya know, if it's jostled slightly wrong from my dog kicking it in her sleep, it crashes), I'm gonna use it to create an at home data backup system, aka a DIY cloud.
Currently looking at various freeware options and Syncthing looks super easy to set up and use. And it's open source, which is always a plus in my books.
It's got syncing between computers. It has the option for versioning (different types to choose from) so if a file gets deleted there is a copy to restore from. And you can choose which folders are synced between which computers.
And because it's an at home thing, I can add space to it over time for backing up my audiobooks that I striped the DRM off of so I can play them on plex, all my music, dvd backups that I also play on plex, etcetera. Seems like a good idea anyway and my adhd brain is always looking for new fun projects to play with.
But also, should be super easy to replace the laptop running the syncthing backup without losing data should my laptop decide crashing when it's just sitting in one place every day is cool too.
My other computer project I'm gonna work on is creating a pi-hole firewall because I've never been totally pleased with the firewall box I've got set up already. It's run fine for years but it's getting old and I dunno how much longer it'll be supported, while pi-hole seems more customizable/to my tastes. So it's getting to be a good time to update that setup anyway. Also I've just... always wanted an excuse to play with a raspberry pi and this seems like a good one.
#anyway computer projects may seem scary and complicated but i promise that if you can find walkthroughs that are not walls of text#then they're usually pretty simple and fun#and there's also usually a bajillion ways to do the project so sometimes the hardest part is just picking the software/hardware#so far syncthing has been super easy to set up and play with between two computers - new and old laptop#once i decide on a place to use as a permanent setup spot from the laptop and the backup drive i've already got#i'll start seeing what it can really do

HOLD ON IS THAT A TOSHIBA T3200????
#anyway I'm not all that surprised#a lot of old games and other software was made in a single room like this#teams were rarely more than a handful of people#core parts were often built by singular individuals#with noone else really understanding their tech wizardry#john carmack and id software being a famous example#early id software was literally four guys in a single room#a lot of venerable game studios got started this way#same with a lot of the famous individuals from that time#it was a very different age#hardware and software were both much simpler#some home computers even shipped with electronic schematics#games could be made in the span of months or even weeks#not the multi-year 100+ worker productions of modern AAA titles#it's a pretty fascinating history#full of incidental creations

finally figured out how to analyze dmp files and now I know that the mystery crashes plaguing me for months are because of a faulty gpu 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
#rambumbles#like I knew it had to be something graphics-related but after a clean driver install I looked into the hardware side of things#for a video-scheduler-internal-error. and results became inconclusive again#IS it with the gpu? or is it the psu? or maybe corrupted ram? what the fuck#and I didn't want to try anything because computer parts are EXPENSIVE and that's a lot of money to dump on something you're not#even certain will fix the problem#but now I KNOW with RELATIVE CERTAINTY#and I feel. so smart. AAHHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA#(← my evil genius laugh)
