So there is a scene in Prince's Gambit that involves a sword going through the air and it's one of my favorites, so of course I want to draw it! But it's also kicking my butt and has probably gone though 10 alterations by now, not counting the third one where I forgot that Damen is supposed to be on a FRICKING HORSE and not on foot.

Qi Ye ensemble cast poster, second edition

Yet another one of those LOL Qi Ye just has that power over me. You know the drill; more info below!

I'll go straight to the point: my main reason to draw this was because I wanted to draw the most somber, dark-looking Helian Qi possible with some dark cross-hatching effect. And because I don't want to draw a Helian Qi solo image because who the HELL does that, I had to turn it into an ensemble cast thing again. I just REALLY like to do that for Qi Ye, for some reasons!!! For a general note, first: shading was a PAIN but making a nice composition and thinking about how to make a hierarchy that both works in terms of storytelling and visual composition was fun. I also liked finding out the "color scheme" to use and I do like lineart. So, now, little notes about each character, and the obligatory name poster just so I'm sure we all know whom I'm talking about:

Jing Beiyuan: I've mentioned it before but drawing Beiyuan is like. The easiest for me, I think, out of ALL Qi Ye/TYK characters combined. He happens to have my general goto "pretty face" (which conveniently has peach blossom eyes). I'm happy with how he turned out here! And got to put the sable around his neck which makes for a nice additional touch. Helian Yi: He's easy to draw as well and I'm glad with how the guan turned out. He initally looked sideways, but I liked it better having him wistfully stare into the distance. Helian Zhao: has the exact same face as in the other, coloured poster, and that cracks me up bc that wasn't even intentional. Helian Pei: GDI I find him so hilarious. He looks so done and out of it. Shout out to all his bird as well, which, I find, really complete the look. Helian Qi: I can't possibly say that I love him as an antagonist because there's nothing to love about this literal trash, but I'm still grateful that we got some of the most rancid stuff going on in Qi Ye just because of him and I'm always here for that. He deserves the villain visual treatment, at least. He was VERY fun to draw and I tried to push that nasty grin and shading as much as possible. He turned out exactly how I wanted him to! (the shading on his face and the balance of light and shadow was a bit of a challenge, actually)

Wuxi: Again, a rather easy one, always pleasant to draw! I loved working on his hair (but complained a lot while doing so)--which I think turned out nicely. Bai Wuchang: Finally! Finally I draw him!! He had to be there, since he's like. The base of the whole Qi Ye plot. Lining him was....... a pain, but at least it looks nice.

Su Qingluan: nothing much to say--I think it's always important to have her there in Qi Ye stuff, and I put her next to Helian Zhao because of how he tried using her--but it did make me feel bad for her when I realised that. Song Ping'an: The real star of the show, lowkey, but always alert and present. Feng Xiaoshu: FINALLY. PRINCESS JING'AN. I'm sorry I took so long to draw her. I want to work on a proper design, I swear. To make up for having completely forgotten to include her in the other spread. I'm so sorry. I like how her face turned out! Liang Jiuxiao: I never, ever, EVER get enough of drawing him. Have I mentioned how much I like him? How much of a great surprise he was reading Qi Ye? How many times I've wanted to high five because finally someone is as confused as I am? I love drawing this very specific smile on him, SO satisfying. Also Bichen said he was "THE Qi Ye antagonist" and I live for that LOL Zhou Zishu: do I really need to say anything atp Jiang Xue: I'm so sorry I put Xiao Xue next to ZZS. The cruelty. But she came out really cute didn't she T_T Anyway that's it. I'm still obsessed with Qi Ye and given my current (totally secret) retranslation project I'm nowhere near done going crazy about this book.

i like this riddle panel from the heartslabyul manga because the composition is absolutely stunning, but the implications and symbolism are also wonderfully haunting. <3

riddle sitting in the very center, framed by the cracked handle of a teapot with various other teawares that are on the verge of shattering is SO GOOD. even the cup he drinks from is breaking and leaking tea. it's all barely held together. you might even miss the cracks at first glance if you're solely focused on riddle, which serves to show that there are fractures (some more noticeable than others) within the dorm and amongst its students (due to riddle's harsh rule) and he's at the very center of it all (as pictured).

but he doesn't realize this or the fact that the whole dorm is trying (and failing) to keep itself together to appease the one who is breaking and pressuring them with so many strict rules. he remains mostly oblivious because to riddle this is normal and right. because this is how he was raised, and it has been stamped into him that the only way to learn (and learn well) is to commit to rigid, austere rule. but his normal is very abnormal and unhealthy to the other dorm members, which is why it's so difficult and stressful for them to keep up.

in the midst of chaos, of a brewing storm, riddle is blissfully unaware of his own wrongdoings because he wholeheartedly believes he's in the right. he's able to exist peacefully amongst so much suffering because that has been his entire life. there's a numb detachment to the cycle he's perpetuating because he doesn't recognize that it's wrong.

inevitably, as all weathered things holding on by a thread do when put under pressure, they break. depicting that symbolism like this is so clever. T_T i love it so much. there's a lot i can ramble about, but i've already written enough. ;;;; tl;dr - i love riddle rosehearts, and pre-overblot riddle is so fascinating to me.

OKAY BUCKLE UP hahaha you picked some FAVS (with plenty of love/hate implied for some of these) 1. kalluswhumpbridalcarry Alright I cheated a liittle bit and did some work on this to make it presentable but only because its an animatic hahh; threw the frames into premiere and did a really quick timing pass. And if you're wondering why the perspective feels so good it's very much rotoscoped 😅 (i think from an episode of Leveraged)

Just a screenshot redraw of the ballroom scene from Beauty and the Beast! I think this was initially inspired by a fun kalluzeb post musing about how either Zeb or Kallus could be the Beast character.

OKAY this one. THIS ONE. *screams* I love the idea behind this so much but execution of it was becoming so painful. So the basic idea was to illustrate the overarching journey of kalluzeb, throughout space and time. In their story, both individually and together, there are specific planets that have particular significance to them, whether it was defining the trajectory of their lives and/or influencing everything about the circumstances of their first meeting and then so much after that as well. Onderon, Lasan, Bahryn, Lira San. I wanted to try doing full on story moment illustrations kind of like the ending credits art from Mandalorian S1. This became pretty difficult very quickly because both composition and color are NOT my strengths. So yea I do keep coming back to this but it is very much slow going T_T (and yes the lasan illustration was re-used from zebnightmares lmao)

While listening to a composition by an Irani musician I like a lot and reading the video's pinned comment by said musician, I encountered this very interesting tidbit that goes as follows:

“Khosrow Anushirvan was the Shahanshah (King of Kings) of the Sasanian Empire from 531 to 579. Widely regarded as one of the greatest kings of the Sasanian dynasty, if not the greatest, to the point where his name, Khosrow, would become a synonym for the term "King," a reality still in use in Modern Persian, where terms like "kingly" or "royal" are often derived from Khosrow. His reign was marked by ambitious construction projects, and a flourishing of architectural and urban projects, as well as cultural ones.”

And, indeed, I digged around and found it to be true— by the power of a combination of Google Translate and Wiktionary. The name “Khosrow” (خسرو/xosrow), derived from a word meaning “renowned, famous”, is also a noun for “a (great) king”!

The terms xosravi (خسروی) and xosravâni (خسروانی) are derived from it and mean “regal, kingly” and “royal” respectively.

His epithet Anushirvan (انوشيروان) means “immortal soul” and that made me think, might Tanaka have taken inspiration from Khosrow I for the historical/mythical figure of Kaykhusraw in Pars? I mean, Arslan Senki takes a lot of inspiration from the Iranian epic Shanahmeh, taking names from it, Pars' founding myth/history is very heavily based on the chapter of Feridoun (with Zahhak and everything) where Kaykhusraw is the Feridoun analogue and yet he does not bear his name, and while I do not know much of Shahnameh's Kai Khosrow (I still haven't gotten back to reading it T_T), I wonder if Tanaka chose to make Kaykhusraw bear that name to echo not only the Shahnameh's Kai Khosrow but also the real, Sassanid King Khosrow Anushirvan. A man with an impact so great his name became a word for “king”. Arakawa also did say she based Pars on the Sassanid dynasty, so that lends even more credence to my theory.

Headcanon that Parsian royals refer to themselves via a term derived from Kaykhusraw's name.

This is a big question to answer and tbh I'm not sure how to properly answer. Because I just..draw..I don't think too much. But first of course I pick an idea. Then I make doodles or, if picture in my head is clear but I can't get the angle for the composition, I make a simple 3d model

then I make a sketch

Clip Studio has a very handy perspective ruler that helps A LOT. I didn't figured fisheye one, but regular one is saving my day! Then I make lines and basic colors. It's already 16+ hours on this pic at this point XD

And then.. well I do shading, idk how to describe this process T_T Currently I try to learn how to make minimum shading, but it worked out only once. I add details along the way, depending on the story on the picture and collecting refs. And often change stuff on the layers above the line!

Glinda and Chris ( girl in white) was in the process of ordering clothes, because Chris got his body changed from male to female and he had 0 idea what to order. first impression to me was that it feels like a combo of the bug reversal of mizuki's secret distance event cards TTTT it's just the ribbon / thread motifs i think particularly next to these cards..the way the framing and composition ..love a good card of mfy being sad surrounded by various items LOL

i saw someone say that the trained version of mfy's card looked like it was fanart drawn by someone really mentally ill about niigo and i agree fully with that :') i'm such a fan of this concept.

i've been playing various rhythm games w gacha components over the past 10 years but prsk cards consistently amaze me with the level of detail in the cards + how they're not afraid to stray from the typical aesthetics and art styles defined ingame (ena's through pain and misery card, toya's unchanging warmth are some of my favs where they kinda stray from the typical rendering style + the new yr 2024 cards) T_T<3
