I’m so sad to hear about Gentle Ben passing away. I’m glad I was able to see him again a couple of months ago at @thegentlebarn. * He was rescued from being sent to slaughter after a petting zoo he was at shut down. He was such a large cow because he was genetically engineered to grow fast in order to be slaughtered at 12 months old. * I’m thankful there are places like @thegentlebarn to rescue animals like Ben but there are sooo many animals that aren’t that fortunate. Forrest was stolen from his mama as soon as he was born and taken to auction. He was purchased by a man along with 49 other baby goats to be sold out of his vehicle for meat. Half of the babies were sold and the other half left in the back of the truck, for several days, without milk or warmth. A woman working at a dog and cat shelter got wind of the incident and went to rescue the goats. Most were dead but six or seven were still alive. There was Forrest, tiny and weak, with the auction sticker still plastered to his baby fur. We quickly took Forrest in along with the other two goats who were sickest. Jax and Gerald passed due to sepsis, but with intensive care at UC Davis, Forrest somehow miraculously survived. Today he is feisty and clever, sweet and brave as ever.
