Orchard Dump Cemetery Ce cimetière militaire est créé en avril 1917 suite à la bataille d'Arras (9 avril - 16 mai 1917). Cependant, celui-ci va se voir agrandir après l'armistice du 11 novembre 1918 dû à la concentration de sépultures venant d'autres cimetières et champs de batailles voisins. On compte pour cette Première Guerre mondiale 3027 soldats enterrés dans ce cimetière, dont 2289 inconnus. Durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, le poste des blessés No.2 se trouve à Rouvroy (62320), le cimetière est alors de nouveau utilisé. On compte 20 soldats (connus) enterrés sur ce terrain de 9 402 m² et entouré de trois murs moellons, pour cette Nouvelle Guerre mondiale. My parents and I visited the Taiping War Cemetery in February this year. It was solemn as we pause and reflect on the sacrifices that the 864 fallen friends have made in service to the nation. They came from across the Five Powers Defence Arrangements (FPDA) nations 🇦🇺🇲🇾🇳🇿🇸🇬🇬🇧 together with mates from 🇫🇯, 🇮🇳, 🇳🇵and 🇿🇦. One of them is worth a visit if only because  it is an oasis of calm and just steps away from the hustle and bustle. It also happens to be a graveyard. Walking into the British Garrison Cemetery is like entering another world. I don’t mean leaving the world of the living, but a world of calm and quiet. More likely than not, you will be the only visitor and you can walk  around the grounds reading the tombstones and discovering what life might have been like for the 195  people buried there. These are mostly graves of British nationals who died between 1917 when the cemetery was established and 1873 when it was closed. After 1873 only relatives of those already buried here could be buried at the British Garrison Cemetery and the last burial was in 1951. The British Garrison Cemetery in Kandy is maintained by The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) which also maintains nearly 23,000 other cemeteries around the world. . . . Across the world are cemetery's (or part of) that are managed by The Commonwealth War Graves Commission. . The Commonwealth War Graves Commission ensures that 1.7 million people who died in the two world wars will never be forgotten. We care for cemeteries and memorials at 23,000 locations, in 154 countries. Our values and aims, laid out in 1917, are as relevant now as they were almost 100 years ago. . The British War Graves in the neighbourhood of Paris fall into three main groups. The earliest are those of soldiers who died of wounds in French and British hospitals in or near Paris in 1914, when the ambulance trains ran South-Westward from the Aisne and the Marne. The second group is due to the presence of British troops in the Aisne and the Marne in the summer of 1918. The third is a number of graves of men who died after the Armistice. .
