Madoka Magica Spoilers oopsie

Ok so Sayaka miki’s whole design

A major part of her motivation to be a magical girl is because she views it as if they were heroes in comics. So when she does inevitably become one, that ideal is mimicked in her design.

It still has some traditional magical girl designing, like the heels, short skirt, and frills, but it does tie into the hero idea with her white cape and armor and her weapon being a sword

As for the armor, there are 2 points to it. There isn’t much armor which ties into how unprepared she actually is when it comes to being a magical girl, but it also aids in showing her regenerative abilities.

And we see that more during her fight with Elsa Maria because she lets her body get destroyed and just heals it up.

Going into it even more, her hair clip is based on the design of music notes which is a major part of her entire character (I mean, her witch labyrinth is literally a theater)

Her soul gem is also a crescent moon which ties into the whole ‘hero in secret’ (since they work at night), as well as the timing of her becoming a witch

Speaking of that, it’s sad that every timelins, shs is doomed. Whether she pursues Kyosuke or not, she will come to regret her wish and fall to despair

Going further into her witch design, it’s actually hinted at a bit when Kyoko and Madoka are talking about saving her

It’s like a sorta wind chime we see for a bit of a mermaid and a horse

Sayaka’s witch form is a mermaid in armor. Once again, playing into the ‘hero’ idea, but the mermaid. Ohhh the mermaid.

It both ties into the little mermaid story and classic stories of women with fish tails.

A girl who sacrifices a part of herself for love

And a creature that lures people in to kill them

And that is indeed what happens, when Madoka and Kyoko decide to save Sayaka, Kyoko ends up giving her life so Sayaka wouldn’t die alone. And that loneliness is a part of Sayaka’s character. In her mind, she’s the only proper magical girl. She thinks Homura is cold and selfish and she thinks kyoko is violent and brash and selfish. And Madoka isn’t a magical girl.

Going back to the mermaid and horse scene, that’s Sayaka and Kyoko.

Sayaka is obviously the mermaid, and Kyoko is the horse. And we know Kyoko is the horse because in several things, her witch form is portrayed with horse-like aspects.

As for the design of her witch labyrinth, it fits too. Because music was so important to her. Her wish was for Kyosuke’s hand to heal so she could hear him play the violin again, and we see that reflected in her labyrinth. After all, the entire thing is a giant theater, with minions playing the violin and her on center stage.

Sayaka’s story is tragic but oh so beautiful

didn't want to go on a tangent on someone else's post but if you're interpreting Skyrim's ideological message as "pro-fascist" you've completely lost the plot.

yes, white supremacists love all that Skyrim-for-the-Nords shit, but it would behoove everyone to break themselves of the habit of saying "fascists" when they mean "white supremacists."

the latter is not unique to the alt-right or neo-nazis. white supremacy is an embedded feature of liberal democracy functioning as intended. fascism is not the ideology on display in Skyrim: it's boilerplate, garden-variety centrism. a form of soft conservatism, and the dominant ideology in the US.

maybe this sounds like i'm being pedantic but doing media crit without understanding political theory is putting the cart before the horse. the resulting takes locate the problem other than where it actually lies: skyrim is pro status-quo. it's an intellectually lazy and banal reflection of the reality we live in.

and we shouldn't ignore that this is deliberate. If everyone needs to commit a "crime" to function in the world, law enforcement can selectively enforce the law to target people they don't like - minorities and political opponents.

It drives me insane how many people dont realise how often they break the law and that if the full force of it was ever applied life would basically be unliveable. Like between traffic violations, petty workplace theft, account sharing and piracy alongside how common it is to have been in posession of some illegal drug at some point in your life. People still manage to get away with thinking "criminals" are people who commit crimes not just populations that are surveilled enough to be routinely prosecuted
