A Rolls-Royce just wouldn’t be a Rolls-Royce with the Spirit of Ecstasy in full flight on the grille. I could wallpaper a reasonable sized garage with the images I have of Eleanor Thornton immortalised in steel. I was even treated to a commission at the foundry where they are created using the ancient lost-wax moulding method. Oddly for me, it was just a few hundred yards down the road from my old school - small world! The years have been kind to Eleanor, although she has got smaller and her feet repositioned - it can’t be easy standing in the same pose for 111 years - and she leans into the oncoming wind more than she once did. Her latest incarnation will see her grace the new electric Spectre model out later this year. (The gentleman in the last picture was responsible for polishing the finished products at the foundry. I couldn’t help noticing the similarity.) . I had a fascinating glimpse into the future recently during this commission for BAE Systems. Project OdySSEy - the high tech operations room of the next generation is a fully immersive, synthetic training facility where all stakeholders can collaborate in a single 3D space using virtual and augmented realities. I’m not a gamer so maybe I’m the last person to hear the news that ‘gaming’ is the future. Particularly in education. Everything can and probably will be taught this way soon. A few things I learned at the first ever Goodwoof event over the weekend. Dogs CAN fly, there’s no wrong way to do dog yoga and a three legged greyhound can cover 50 metres in 4.5 seconds. What a lovely maiden event to witness. Marble Hill in Twickenham reopens to the public tomorrow. The villa, described as "a forgotten gem of Georgian England" will reopen its doors following an £8m restoration project. And, it’s totally FREE - Amazing! I just received my copy of Oyster Life magazine. Very happy to see the latest edition carries an eight page feature I shot for them last autumn about the strength of their beautiful yachts. Oyster are the only yacht makers to be able to say they build to Lloyd’s Register Standards - totally exceptional. It was a fascinating experience witnessing the birth, build and creation of their luxury yachts as they were being crafted at their various facilities at Wroxham in Norfolk.
