5 Innovative Uses of Commercial Portable Air Conditioners You Haven’t Thought Of
Tumblr media
The quest for efficiency and comfort is paramount in the ever-evolving landscape of commercial and industrial operations. Among the most versatile tools in this pursuit are commercial portable air conditioners. While they are primarily recognised for their cooling capabilities, their applications extend far beyond typical climate control. This article explores five innovative uses of these machines that you may not have considered, providing insights into how they can enhance productivity and operational effectiveness.
1. Temporary Cooling Solutions for Events
Whether it’s a corporate gathering, a festival, or an outdoor wedding, the need for efficient climate control cannot be overstated. Commercial portable air conditioners can be a game-changer in these scenarios. They offer the flexibility to create comfortable environments in temporary structures like tents or marquees, ensuring that guests enjoy the event without the discomfort of excessive heat.
Imagine hosting a summer event where attendees can mingle comfortably, free from the oppressive heat. With our extensive range of portable air conditioning units available for hire, event organisers can easily select the suitable capacity to match their needs, ensuring a pleasant atmosphere without the hefty costs associated with permanent installations. Additionally, these units' quick setup and adaptability make them an ideal choice for last-minute arrangements, allowing you to focus on the event rather than logistics.
2. Essential Support During Equipment Failures
In industries that rely heavily on machinery, the failure of a critical component can lead to significant downtime, impacting both productivity and revenue. Commercial portable air conditioners can serve as a lifeline when traditional air conditioning systems fail, providing immediate cooling solutions to keep operations running smoothly.
Consider a scenario in a manufacturing facility where machinery is at risk of overheating due to a malfunctioning HVAC system. Deploying portable air conditioning units can prevent equipment failure, ensuring production lines operate efficiently. This quick response mitigates potential losses and demonstrates a commitment to operational excellence. At Andrews Sykes, our portable air conditioning solutions are readily available, ensuring you can maintain a calm environment despite unexpected challenges.
3. Enhancing Air Quality in Working Environments
Air quality is a critical factor in worker productivity and health. Commercial portable air conditioners can be equipped with advanced filtration systems, allowing them to cool the air and purify it. This is particularly beneficial in environments where dust, allergens, or pollutants, such as construction sites or manufacturing plants, may be present.
By integrating air purification with climate control, businesses can create healthier working conditions, reducing the risk of respiratory issues and enhancing overall employee well-being. This dual functionality is invaluable, especially in industries where employees are exposed to various environmental factors. At Andrews Sykes, we provide air conditioning units tailored to meet specific air quality needs, ensuring your workforce remains safe and productive.
4. Supporting Temporary Workspaces and Pop-Up Shops
The rise of remote work and pop-up retail spaces has created a demand for flexible and efficient climate control solutions. Commercial portable air conditioners are perfect for these temporary setups, providing a comfortable environment for employees and customers.
For instance, a pop-up shop in a bustling urban area might be set up for just a few weeks. Maintaining a pleasant shopping environment is crucial to attracting customers and driving sales during this time. Portable air conditioning units can be easily installed and removed, allowing businesses to adapt to their needs without the commitment of permanent installations. This flexibility saves costs and enhances the customer experience, making it a wise investment for companies looking to capitalise on fleeting opportunities.
5. Facilitating Emergency Response Efforts
The ability to respond swiftly is essential in times of crisis, such as natural disasters or unexpected emergencies. Commercial portable air conditioners can be crucial in emergency response efforts, providing immediate cooling solutions for rescue teams, medical facilities, or temporary shelters.
When extreme temperatures can hamper a disaster strikes, the effectiveness of recovery efforts. Portable air conditioning units can be deployed rapidly to ensure that temporary shelters remain livable, offering comfort to those displaced by the crisis. They can also be used in mobile command centres, helping keep emergency personnel working efficiently in high-stress situations.  Air Conditioner Repair- What You Need To Know?
As  your vehicle requires a regular oil change, your air conditioning system requires too! Continue reading this article to overcome the AC repair issues,
With that said, no critical issue can be diagnosed without the eye of a qualified technician.  Even if it's a simple water heater repair. Thus, having a regular checkup to keep your mini splits cool around your home is mandatory and to understand it more clearly here is all you need to know!
Common AC Repair Problems- Refrigerant Leaks- The chemical that absorbs heat from your home and rejects the heat to the outdoor unit, delivering cool air back into your home/occupied space. This can impact your  ductless heating and cooling systems, which eventually will hamper the indoor air quality.
Signs of an AC refrigerant leak;
Air coming from vents isn’t cool.
Unexpected increase in cooling cost.
A hissing sound from the outdoor unit.
Access indoor humidity.
If these issues are observed the refrigerant leak may include repairing or replacing the unit where the leak has occurred along with the unit recharging.
HVAC Drainage Issues - As per the Environmental Protection Agency it is mandated that only a certified technician can take care of the HVAC installation as well as recharge the HVAC unit. An air conditioner’s cooling process produces condensation, which flows away from the equipment, allowing the unit to function smoothly.
Too much condensation hinders the performance of the AC system and it could cause damage to the unit’s components. There are 3 possible drain issues to look for in your commercial air conditioning troubleshooting process.
Drain trap
Mold Growth
Water leakage spilling.
This can be an indication to schedule an appointment with your certified HVAC replacement technician.
AC Broken Compressor FanCondenser coils, compressors, and fans are the components of which an outdoor unit comprises. They work to release heat from the air, to deliver a cool indoor climate.  It’s simple- when the outdoor fan isn’t working properly, the heat transfer process is impacted. A broken fan causes overheating system’s compressor , which triggers the air conditioner’s safety controls and consequently results in the AC’s shut down.
- Signs of bad AC Compressors
No cooling of indoor temperature
Constant tripping of circuit breaker
Unit makes unwanted noise
Well, there are other ways a bad compressor will pave itself. But these are a few of the common problems. Replacing or repairing a compressor is not a DIY job.  There are chances it may require a heat pump repair service technician, hence let the specialist diagnose and fix the issue.
What are the major warning signs your furnace needs servicing or repairs? - Changes in airflow, runtime, new sounds. If you have noticed these changes in your furnace performance it’s time to take a call, as they are asking for a repair or a service.
The major 5 signs are as follows;
Changes in airflow- They could be due to dirty filters, and clogged blower fans. Decreased airflow can lead to major issues and cause expensive repairs.
Unusual sound and smoky smell- Some of the issues include smell of burning, or rotten eggs (gas) slow and noisy fan start-up. If they are noticed your certified technician will be able to help and save you from the other uncertainties.
Kicking on and off without running (Short Cycling) - They are caused due to dirty burners, flame sensors, and malfunctioning ignitors and should be taken care of immediately so that your comfort and wallet both may remain balanced.
Longer run timing- If your existing furnace begins to run longer than it did in the heating seasons past, it may be due to build up grime on the heat exchanger, cracked or malfunctioning heat exchanger. The HVAC technician can address this by cleaning your heat exchanger.                      You can never totally avoid furnace repairs, but you have the power to prevent it by calling a certified HVAC installation/replacement technician. Lastly you can prevent heat exchanger with two steps: A) Schedule regular preventive maintenance. And an annual AC tune-up will ensure that your furnace is working efficiently to heat your occupied space.
B) Change your HVAC system filter, depending upon the type of filter you have.
Water and Leaks -A damaged heat exchanger, and a compromised seal on your evaporator coil are the reasons. Contact your technician immediately to rescue from the costly repairs.
Unfortunately, with the air conditioning system there is no warning, it can happen within minutes, after a few months or several years. Thus,to keep your AC working efficiently for many years, do not miss on your preventive maintenance schedule calendar and hope the above mentioned information will assist you to assess your residential or commercial AC system more efficiently.
Thank you for reading!

Wing Man Bonus Story: Next October
This is a non-canon blurb for Wing Man. It’s non-canon because it gives Reader a specific birthday month. This was written for me and for @sheneedsrocknroll92 as we are actually twins with the same October birthday, ignore the gap year between us.
You don’t need to know much about Wing Man to enjoy this, but you should read it anyway because it’s a finished 86k word Reader/Eddie fic and don’t you want to read a finished fic that long? Yes. Yes you do. (You also want to leave comments on all the fics you read when you enjoy them, js)
Anyway, say Happy Birthday to both of us. Also, sorry this is a few days late lol
1.8K Words
Plot: It’s your birthday, and you’re drowning in work. Thankfully, you have an amazing boyfriend to help you relax.
Tags: Eddie Munson x Reader, established relationship, fluff, overuse of the word slut (affectionate)
Tumblr media
You loved your job, really. Most nights you wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. You got to spin and talk about almost anything that you wanted, play music you enjoyed, and even spend the occasional commercial break with your amazing boyfriend when he stayed late at the studio.
But there were only so many hours in the day. Your nights from midnight to 6 am were spent on air. Your mornings were chores and errands while everything was still open, followed by sleeping until dusk where you’d wake up and would head to work so early to spend some time with Eddie at the recording studio, or at one of his gigs, or do any other number of things around the studio.
It didn’t even occur to you that it was almost your birthday. You had been so wrapped up in your own work and helping Eddie and Corroded Coffin that it wasn’t until you saw Halloween decorations being put up around the studio that you realized that October was right around the corner, which meant that it was also almost your birthday.
It was a bittersweet seeing the decorations. It felt like only a few weeks ago that you had decorated Family Video with decorations you paid for out of your own pocket. Shit, that meant it had been about a year since you and Steve had made the little deal that had led you to where you are today.
You should drop by and see him soon.
Even though you and Eddie had started living together months ago, it still felt rare that you got to see him outside of work. Corroded Coffin was doing better than anyone (except you) could have expected. That meant lots of rehearsals, gigs, talking to local publications for interviews, and being awake when you were asleep. You were really starting to miss him.
It was the morning of your birthday, and you stepped out of the old theater-turned-studio into the cool October air. There was a golden shine on everything as the sun peeked over the horizon, and the air felt crisp and cool but not uncomfortably so.
I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers. That quote floated through your mind as you got in your car.
Even though it was your birthday, there were still things to be done. You grabbed your half of the rent, picked up some deodorant and toothpaste and the largest bottle of conditioner you could find for Eddie. You stood in the cereal aisle staring at the colorful boxes, allowing yourself the moment to pick out one that was appropriately themed for the month and that you and Eddie would both enjoy, and finally made it back home.
Eddie wasn’t home when you got back to your apartment, it wasn’t unusual. You might have had set hours, but Eddie’s schedule was all over the place. Ever the life of an indie metal star.
You put away your groceries and made your way to the closet where you kept all of the halloween decorations. You managed to pull out two boxes and open one before you hit the wall. These days of going non-stop were starting to catch up to you, and you found yourself just staring at the box as you sat on the couch for an undisclosed amount of time.
Yeah, you needed sleep.
It was damn near a miracle that your birthday lined up with your next few days off. You could sleep for a few hours, wake up, decorate and then figure out where the hell your boyfriend was. Most days you two would be at the studio together, but there were some days where Paige had him off doing something else with the band.
You weren’t jealous that Paige was Eddie’s ex. You were jealous that she got to see him more than you did lately. You trusted him completely, but you really missed having a normal schedule with him.
You found yourself crawling into his side of the bed and nuzzling into his pillow. Sometimes it was nice to have the bed to yourself, but there were mornings like this when you wished that he was here and you two could just talk nonsense until you fell asleep.
Just a few hours of sleep and then you’d get back to work...
You felt something nudge you, and your eyes opened just slightly. There was something, no someone, in front of you. You hoped it was Eddie. It probably was. He said something. You mumbled something nonsensical in return and closed your eyes again.
There was another nudge and this time you could only lift your hand slightly and let it flop down like a dead fish.
It was quiet for a long while after that. You finally opened your eyes and saw... nothing. Shit, you slept longer than you meant to. If it was this dark then that meant that it was night time now and Eddie was probably already at the studio again doing who-knows-what.
You peeled yourself off the bed and sat there, trying to reorient yourself. You loved your job, but the sleep schedule had been hard to manage, especially as the days grew shorter and you saw the sun less during the day.
After counting to three, you pushed yourself off the bed. You’d make yourself something to eat, and probably spend all night watching Halloween movies until Eddie came home.
When you stepped out of the bedroom, you heard music. Your eyes adjusted to the lights that had been turned on and you were soon standing in the living room, stunned.
Your Halloween decorations had been put up, well most of them. You could smell pizza, and there was a record playing- your favorite one.
“Morning.” Eddie said as he stepped out of the kitchen and gave you a kiss on the cheek.
“Eddie you- what are you doing here?” you asked, staring at him as if you couldn’t believe he was really standing in front of you.
“It’s your birthday?” Eddie said, as if he were the one that was confused now. “I told Paige I’m taking the next few days off.”
It was your birthday. You had barely remembered your own birthday, and so hadn’t expected Eddie to either.
“Oh shit, what’s wrong?” Eddie asked in a panic, his eyes going wide. “Did I get the wrong date?”
You shook your head quickly, feeling something wet on your cheek. Oh, you might have been tearing up just slightly. Left Turn Studios had been running you so deep into the ground you hadn’t even realized how exhausted you were.
“No! No, you didn’t. It’s my birthday.” you said, taking his hand. “I just... I had almost forgotten myself and didn’t expect...”
Eddie squeezed your hand. “I know we’ve been working a lot.” he said. “Paige said things will slow down after Halloween for a while and I’ll have more free time. I just.. I missed you. I know I’m still new to the whole ‘being a boyfriend’ thing, but I wasn’t about to leave you alone on your birthday.”
You were sat on the couch now, and Eddie pointed at you dramatically. “Hear me now” he pointed at you. “For tonight, I am at your complete command. This humble bard will be your personal jester and do whatever you ask.”
You broke out into a fit of giggles. “Could you do the dishes?”
Eddie’s chest puffed up and he gave you a proud smile. “Already done.”
“Shit, you’re good.” you sighed, starting to feel better already.
There was a buzzing noise coming from the kitchen and Eddie quickly jumped in. A steaming hot pizza was placed on the coffee table in front of you. “I also have some cupcakes in the fridge.” He explained. “I couldn’t remember if you liked chocolate or vanilla more so I just got both-”
“Keep talking like this and I’m promoting you from jester to wife, Eddie.” you threatened, giving him a kiss before digging into the pizza.
“Would that make me your queen?” he asked, sitting next to you with his own slice.
“No, I’m still queen. I think there’s a bunch of weird rules about that and if we got married you’d be Queen consort or something.”
“Doesn’t that just mean I’d be the Queen's slut?”
“You’re thinking concubine, probably.”
“...Can I be that instead?”
You nearly choked on your pizza with laughter, feeling lighter than you had in days. “Yeah, sure. I’ll promote you from bard to slut if you keep being nice to me. Wait, aren’t bards known for being that way anyway?”
Eddie looked at you in mock-offense. “You dare suggest that I, Eddie Munson, humble bard, would sleep my way to the top? That I could not wed you on charm and love alone and that I would sell my body?”
“....Isn’t your current band manager your ex?”
His jaw dropped and twisted into a face that had you falling back on the couch, laughing with tears in your eyes.
“That’s not- that.. No, that was- I’m- We’re-” he sputtered, unable to hold back his own laughter. “Shit, maybe I am a slut.”
“As long as you’re only a slut for me, that’s fine.” You leaned over and kissed him, still feeling those butterflies in your stomach as he kissed you back, setting his own pizza aside.
A while later, Eddie was cleaning you both up as you lay naked on the couch. You reached out to get some post-sex cuddling but he jumped up suddenly as if he remembered something. He cursed and ran into the kitchen.
You sat up, amused as you saw his naked ass disappear and reappear moments later with the tray of cupcakes, a few sporting lit candles.
“Eddie, my love, you are naked and handling fire.” you said, looking him up and down in amusement.
“What would I not do to entertain?” he replied before launching into Happy Birthday.
You took a deep breath and blew out the candles.
“I meant to do this before sex, but...”
“We’re not exactly good at going in order.” you finished, grabbing a cupcake with heaps of pumpkin-orange frosting.
It was well past midnight when half of the cupcakes were gone, and you and Eddie were laying on your cramped couch with him as the big spoon. You two would probably regret it in the morning, but right now there was nowhere else you’d rather be.
The two of you watched as Pamala Voorhees revealed herself as the killer and you played with the rings on Eddie’s fingers. You could feel the rise and fall of his chest, and you knew that in a few minutes his arm that you were laying on would fall asleep.
“Happy birthday.” Eddie mumbled, his grip tightening around you. “I love you.”
You pulled his hand up and kissed his fingers softly.
Last year, you and Steve had a deal to wingman for each other to help you both get dates. In the end, Steve only managed to help you get one date but that date led you to finding everything you could have ever wanted.
“I love you too, Eddie.”

simple skincare tips!
🌼eat the foods that love you back. your skin is a direct mirror of your internal situation. if your digestive system is being bombarded often by foods that create a lot of wastes and residues, that does more harm than good. and so, the struggle to eliminate them will be reflected in your skin. your diet constitutes the vast majority of your skin health. change your meals to be whole food plant based (still delicious, satisfying, and exciting) & watch your skin glow and your skincare routine simplify.
🌼be conscious of what's going on your skin. the skin layers can be over-cleansed, imbalanced, and aggravated when the skin microbiome and pH are disrupted. if you wipe out the beneficial bacterial populations with harshly formulated products, you may find that you break out (i.e. harmful bacterial populations begin to thrive). use gentle, simple skin formulas such as castile soaps, natural oils & butters (i recommend jojoba oil for mostly everyone), natural soap bars, and clays. most commercial skin care products disturb the skin cells (introduce too much foreign material to the body, unsuitable pH ranges, imbalance the microbiome, etc). they sell because it's convention to buy them, the brands are well-known, and their sales pitches are enticing. but really, no cream or serum will ever be the magic potion your skin was asking for. it will only be a band-aid, at best. truly healthy skin comes from diet, and the products are just for any other necessary maintenance. if you get a pimple, you should look first to why the pimple emerged, not what treatment will remove it.
🌼keep your lymph flowing. simple ways to do this are through good lifestyle habits. things like doing exercise & sports you find fun, breathwork, dry brushing, eating lots of fruit, avoiding wearing bras & other tight clothing items, lymphatic massage/gua sha can all be helpful.
🌼focus on hydration via fresh fruits and veggies. the water within plant foods is more useable to your cells, and your skin will cease being overly oily or dry overtime (especially if you reduce/eliminate your salt & oil intake). it will also help to encourage lymphatic flow, so you can see problems like blemishes, cellulite, old scars diminish after great consistency.
🌼allow your skin to breathe. this is especially good if you spend time in stuffy (poorly ventilated) indoor environments, like offices, hospitals, planes, etc. one great way is via herbal facial steaming (i recommend it 3x a week or so). make a hot infusion of an aromatic tea, cover it and allow it to cool a few minutes, and, with closed eyes, allow the pores to open and receive the herbal medicine (this is a great time to meditate, manifest, and just feel pampered). getting more fresh air, working up a sweat, and going to a sauna are also ways to allow your skin to breathe.
🌼avoid steroid prescriptions creams at all costs. they are very deleterious to health in the long term, and they can be very painful to come off of. it's not a real fix. it's not worth hurting your kidneys & adrenals for. evaluate your diet instead. do you eat dairy? choose plant-based dairy options instead (they're simple to make yourself too). do you eat a lot of fats? try oil-free cooking methods instead (opt for sautéing with a bit of water, baking, steaming, air frying, etc). avoiding eating out as much.
🌼be aware of what you're putting in your hair as well. your shampoos, conditioner, leave-ins, gels, moisturizers, oils, serums, etc all tend to touch your face too, when your hair touches your face. if they wouldn't be good enough to put on your face, don't put them in your hair. a lot of the best skin cleansers are also suitable as shampoos. a lot of oils and butters can be used for both. plant-based gels like aloe vera or flax seed are simple to DIY, and are dual-use once again. basically, this will simplify your life.
🌼understand the water that runs through your pipes. if your shower and tap water are like most people's around the world, they aren't optimal for our skin. for example, they contain added chemicals to sanitize the water but that can prevent the proper microbiomes from developing on your skin. a weak skin microbiome is prone to skin issues. so, try to use distilled water on your face (if you're not able to get a water filter, a gallon jug at a store is affordable. they're about $1.30 USD in my area).

You Broke Me First
part 10
Tumblr media
Zoe had every intention of calling him immediately... but she wanted to relish in this moment first.
The soft hum of the floor air conditioner, the cool air hitting her, cooling down the apartment at a fast rate. She might put on a hoodie! When was the last time she was able to do that?!
Zoe took out her phone and called Cillian. He picked up on the third ring.
"First date, and you get me an air conditioner?" Zoe said before he could say anything else.
"Hey, first time we met we had sex. There's no rules" He said, sounding sleepy.
Zoe smiled. Something about him bringing up ~that night~ made her smile. Maybe he thought about it as much as she did. Maybe he remembered more than she did. If that was the case, she was jealous.
"Well... thank you. You didn't have to do that. but I'm already putting it to good use."
"Well I would hope so, I don't even know how you dealt with no AC during these summer days. The second I closed the car door when I left yesterday I was on the phone ordering it for you," Cillian said. "Hey," He continued. "I also just wanted to see how you were feeling about today"
"What do you mean?" Zoe said. She was laying on her back on the hardwood floor in front of the AC with her eyes closed, in pure bliss.
"... the article and pictures are dropping today" Cillian said softly.
Zoe slowly opened her eyes.
It was to the point where she never hoped to be happy or content in a moment ever again. Because there was always something coming around the corner and kicking her in the gut.
"Oh." Zoe replied. That's all she could think. "Weird. I know what it feels like on publishing days. I never was on this side of it. Did she say what time it's being dropped?"
"Hannah said 10"
Zoe looked at the clock. 8:53. About an hour left before the whole world knew her.
"If you want to let anyone know... i'd give them a heads up" Cillian added. "maybe your parents.. sister"
"yea, will do" Zoe interrupted. Man, my dad sure would get a kick out of this shit, she thought.
"Why don't you come here and we can figure this out together" Cillian said.
"I'm not sure what is left to be figured out..." Zoe said, drifting off. However, the thought of being together sounded nice, she thought.
"I know... but, ya know that saying? Strength in numbers? I don't know. Just a thought. You don't have to-" Cillian started.
"No it's fine. i'll head over. Just text me your address. i'll get ready and come by"
"Don't worry about it. I'll send John" Cillian said, reminding her that they left their cars at the bar the previous day.
"ok, cool. Thanks" Zoe said, sitting up.
Cillian stated that he'll text her once John left to get her, and hung up with her to go shower.
Zoe herself stood up, hopped in the shower for a quick body shower, and stepped out and grabbed a pair of leggings and a Columbia T Shirt. She tired her hair up in a pony tail and grabbed her sunglasses and flip flops. She headed downstairs with the intention of waiting on the stoop for John. She hated anyone waiting on her, and she hated being late. She hated being an inconvenience; which is what she felt like most times, especially now. She felt like an inconvenience to her mom, and is convinced that if her and her sister were hanging off a cliff and she could only save one, her mom would save Jen. "Zoe is my tough one" she would tell people, and then sing nothing but praises for Jen. She felt like an inconvenience to her job, especially now. Donna knew her talent, and sometimes she feels like Donna hired her out of pity. She saw Zoe as a hurt puppy, someone you couldn't help but feel sorry for. She was a walking ASPCA commercial and Donna called the 800 number on the commercial and signed up to donate monthly. Zoe felt like an inconvenience to Cillian, who I'm sure didn't want to be wrapped up in something like this, let alone with someone like her. He could have a Victoria Secret model but nope! Zoe Parker for you!
John pulled up about 10 minutes later, and hopped out of the car to open the door for her. "Good morning, Zoe" John said with a smile. He had a smile that was contagious, she couldn't help but smile back. "Hey John! good morning" Zoe replied, sliding into the car. The leather seats were cool and she rested her head back against the headrest. "Did you have trouble finding it?" Zoe asked after he got back into the car.
"Not at all, I know this city like the back of my hand. And I have a very good memory" He replied, putting car into drive and pulling out into traffic.
The ride to Cillian's was only about 15-20 minutes. John pulled up to the section of town Zoe wouldn't step foot in.
"He lives... here?" Zoe muttered, loud enough for John to hear.
"Hey, he must be good at what he does, i guess" John said, laughing.
"Zoe, if you need a ride home, please let Cillan know. it would be my pleasure" He continued, turning around to face her and smile.
"I can call an uber John-
"No, no, they can't come through here. Just call me and i'll take care of it" He replied.
"Okay.. thanks John, i'll see you later. Thanks so much" Zoe said, sliding out of the car and making her way up the walk.
Zoe knocked on the door and looked around the neighborhood that banished Ubers. Big sprawling lawns, white brick curbs, wide quiet streets. Every house had a long driveway and most of the homes were protected by big spruce trees for privacy. Large old trees lined the curb, providing shade on the hot summer day.
I am so out of my tax bracket, Zoe thought.
Zoe was snapped back to reality by the door opening. "Hey, come on in" Cillian said.
Zoe stepped inside and looked around.
Did you ever step foot into a place and was scared to walk any further? As if one more step you take something would break. The perfect rug would crease. You'd get your fingerprint on something. Or you'd spill something; oh god you'd spill something red all over a white carpet. That's the worst.
Anyways, that's how Zoe felt. She looked around the foyer and looked at the connecting rooms. The room to her right had a piano with a record player against the wall, accompanied by a floor-to-ceiling record shelf filled with records. To the right was a formal dining room, with a dining room table and fine china in the china cabinet collecting dust. A winding staircase was in front of her, and just to the right of the staircase was the hallway to the kitchen, where Cillian was walking to.
Zoe followed him into the kitchen and was met with a dog barreling towards her.
"Scout Stop!" Cillian yelled, stepping in front of her to shield her from the dog.
"no that's ok! I love dogs!" Zoe said, pushing him out of the way. Scout jumped on her and almost knocked her over, excited to see her.
"Yea, this is what I was afraid of" Cillian said, pulling on his collar to get him off.
"No it's fine!" Zoe said, laughing on the floor and petting Scout.
Zoe hated people, but loved dogs.
"coffee?" Cillian said, getting up and heading further into the kitchen.
"Sure, Thanks" Zoe said, finally standing up once Scout was calm. She walked over and took a seat at the breakfast bar, wincing when she pulled out the stool and it made a loud noise against the floor. Great, i just scuffed his floor. It's probably made of italian marble, taken from the colosseum itself, it'll cost a fortune to fix, and you can't fix one, you gotta fix the whole kitchen, and i'll have to file for bankruptcy all because I wanted to sit down, Zoe's mind raced. However, Cillian hardly noticed. He was too busy pouring into a mug for her.
"it's gonna be... a little overwhelming today. For you, especially" Cillian said. "I just want you to know I'm here for you"
"I know. Thanks" Zoe said, taking the mug from him and taking a sip. "You have a really nice house" She said, changing the subject.
"huh.. oh. thanks." Cillian said, almost confused. "I've been trying to get rid of it for a while now"
"What, why? it's beautiful"
"reminds me of her" Cillian said, taking a sip.
"oh. Sorry" Zoe replied, wanting to evaporate into thin air.
"All good. People break up. I'm surprised she didn't want to keep this. This was her pride and joy." Cillian said, getting up and letting Scout out. "I guess it reminded her too much of me and since she couldn't stand the thought of me, she up and left"
"Thats... a little harsh" Zoe said, tilting her head. "don't' talk so badly about yourself"
"preaching to the choir, aren't ya?" He said, walking back to her and squeezing her shoulder. "You don't think i can tell when your mind is racing?"
"How could you possibly tell what i'm thinking about" Zoe said, her side leading against the breakfast counter. Cillian stared her down, taking a step closer towards her.
oh fuck.
"I may not know what you're thinking. But I know more about you thank you think. Like how you like your job but you want more, and scared to ask for it. You miss your sister. You feel stuck. You pick at your cuticles when you're anxious, which is at least 3-4 times a day" he said, picking up your hand off your lap and holding it, rubbing his thumb against your raw cuticles. "You want so much more, but you're scared to ask for it. You deserve so much more" Cillian said, softly.
"How could you possibly know all that from 3 days of knowing me" Zoe said softly, getting lost in his eyes. again.
Cillian smiled. "I guess I just...see you." Cillian said, squeezing your hand. Zoe smiled. there's those butterflies again.
And, in true fashion, around the corner was a gut punch to the stomach.
Cillian and Zoe were snapped out of their trance by their phones going off at the same time. They both reached for their respective phones. Zoe looked, and saw she had 4 texts and a missed call from her mom. She looked at the time.
"10:08" Cillian said. "Article dropped. Welcome to your new normal for the next 3 months."

✿ partner in crime ft cheng xiaoshi
author's note; it amazes me how whenever lu guang is in beverage commercials, he always seems like he's enjoying life a bit more lol
"it isn't a crime to try and cool yourself down, right?", you thought to yourself. eyes closed, you leaned on your boyfriend's body by your side. "even if it's a little unconventional", you continued to ponder silently, heart torn between guilt and pleasure. you blamed the sun for being too hot, the ice cream at home that ran out too soon, and xiaoshi for always being too good at roping you into his mischief.
you shook your head as only-if thoughts running through your mind — if only the weather isn't so hot these days, if only you didn't wake up melting from the heat, if only the two of you didn't have to go shop for more ice cream to save yourselves, if only xiaoshi didn't get the stupid idea to stand in front of the fridge for so long, if only you're strong enough to tore him (and yourself) away from the blissful chill it offered.
any second now, the staff will come and yell at you for being childish before kicking you out of the place. "xiaoshi, let's go. we shouldn't do this", you said weakly, mostly to yourself. "just one more minute", he caressed the skin of your forearm as he pulled you closer. less than a minute later, you heard small children's gasp beside you and peeked through an eye. they're imitating you now in front of another fridge's open door. your boyfriend sniggered.
as if on cue, the shop staff turned the corner of the isle and spotted you. "hey!", he shouted. you saw xiaoshi smirked at him, as if challenging him to a battle he knew he'll win, grabbed your hand and pulled you to the other direction, "time to run". adrenaline rush made you laughed as you made your escape together out of the shop. when you finally made your stop a little further away, you're still laughing, fingers stayed intertwined with each others'.
"xiaoshi, you idiot", you slapped his chest, which he let you but caught your hand in his afterward, not letting go. "but you love me anyway", he stole a kiss on your cheek, enjoying how cold your skin was. meanwhile, the hot weather was starting to give a prickly feeling all over your body. you sighed, "maybe it's about time we fix the broken air conditioner at home. we didn't get the ice cream after all".

Excerpt from this story from Canary Media:
Buildings everywhere need to get off fossil fuels in order to help the world avoid climate catastrophe. Yet owners of large commercial buildings in New York City are especially feeling the pressure: The groundbreaking Local Law 97 takes effect this year, requiring buildings of more than 25,000 square feet to meet specific emissions limits, which become more stringent in 2030, or face hefty fines.
One cutting-edge retrofit project is underway at the corner of Hudson and Charlton streets in lower Manhattan. The 17-story Art Deco office building, built in 1931, is ditching its fossil-gas boiler for uber-efficient electric heat pumps that are both heaters and air conditioners. They’re key components of a system that aims to heat and cool the building more efficiently by capturing thermal energy that would otherwise be wasted.
The state is backing the demonstration project, which could serve as a model to decarbonize the more than 6,000 high-rises that punctuate New York City’s skyline. As part of the Empire Building Challenge, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) awarded $5 million to the 345 Hudson project in 2022, which also has more than $30 million in private funding.
Project leader Benjamin Rodney estimates that once the project is complete in 2030, the building will use 25 percent less energy than a conventional design and reduce greenhouse gas pollution by 70 percent relative to 2019 levels. As the grid cleans up, he expects the figure to climb to 90 percent by 2035. The deep emissions cuts will allow the building owner, Hudson Square Properties — a joint venture of Hines, Trinity Church Wall Street, and Norges Bank Investment Management — to avoid more than $200,000 in fines annually starting in 2030.
But more importantly, it could help other building owners determine how best to eliminate emissions — a crucial task given that nearly 70 percent of the city’s carbon pollution stems from the fossil fuels used to heat and power its buildings.

Copyright
Two of my earliest commissions, we’re talking over twenty years ago, taught me that art buyers know nothing about copyright law, and don’t even know that they don’t know.     One man told me openly that he’d taken my ink drawing to a local print shop and had copies made for family members. This was a piece that would ONLY be of interest to his family (his grandmother’s house), and he had given me a truly splendid ‘tip’ over and above the purchase price I asked for, so I said nothing about that. He just didn’t know, and the tip certainly made up for what I would have asked for if he’d actually bought the right to copy.
The next lady had commissioned a large oil portrait of her 1770′s era mansion. She had all sorts of [legitimate] suggestions about what she wanted, including eliminating power lines/air conditioners, making the shrubs look more tidy (they hadn’t been pruned in a while) and emphasizing the flowers in the flower garden. All fair requests, and the finished work looked marvelous - just like the mansion but j-u-s-t a touch nicer and neater! The next year I saw that her brochures for wedding events were using my artwork instead of a photo of the place. That was - NOT cool; uncredited commercial use of my artwork. However, she was kind of a bigwig in our community (and notably quite mean and litigious) and I was a relatively unknown artist. I felt like pushing this issue would hurt me more than it helped, so I let it be and used it as a learning experience.
In later commissions, I actually explained copyright to my clients. Where the piece would have value only to family members (and that happened quite a bit) I’d tell them that is was ok to copy for family, just not for commercial use. And, of course, adjust my price a bit. One lady who ran a museum/heritage center actually needed copyright to make posters, so I not only built full copyright into my pricing, but gave her a written statement to attach behind the painting so that her printer would know everything was fair and square with that. Also, I was credited on those printings, which meant a lot to me!
One of the best, though, was a local man who has lived about two miles down the road for my his whole (80+ years!) life. He built his house himself, every bit, and he told me about the process in great detail when I went to get reference photos for the painting. As before, I told him that he could copy it for family or to make some greeting cards for himself (he is so proud of his house. So proud.)   Wouldn’t you know, some time after I delivered the painting, I got a holiday card from Frank. He’d had a printer make him cards from the painting. That was a delight to receive in the mail.

We might want to consider the idea that Lovecraft often included characters, concepts, and situations, that were utterly oposite to his personal life and sensitivities. In the tale, COOL AIR, the character Dr Munoz is a smallish, bearded, foreign- born (Spanish) physician living in a run- down neighborhood of NYC. As the story goes, Munoz has a deathly fear of warmth and relies on an old-fashioned gasoline powered air conditioner for his very survival. H. P. Lovecraft on the other hand was extremely sensitive to cold. Any temperature below 40 degrees was uncomfortable for him and below that was downright life-threatening! In, THE THING ON THE DOORSTEP, a story that I believe was a dimly veiled commentary by HPL on his own marriage, Edward Derby is 7-8 years older than his wife. This wife who is described as dark and smallish, is actually a sort of demonic priestess. Even more disturbing is the probability that this woman has been possessed by the 'soul' and mind of a man! In this case her warlock father has taken possession of her body. Now, it may be countered that if Sonia Greene Lovecraft was being represented by the demon-wife of THE THING ON THE DOORSTEP, there were some outwardly problematic differences between the two. 1. Sonia Greene was actually 7 years older than HPL. 2. At either 5'7" or 5'8" ( both had been cited on official documents) and 175 Lbs, Sonia Haft Greene Lovecraft was anything but "smallish'. The one time Mrs. Lovecraft was a talented and gregarious sales- person and that was a type diametrically opposed to her reserved and anti- commercial hubby. Well, Lovecraft considered himself an 'old man' since he was about 14! As to Asenath Waite - the fictional wife of Derby - being smallish rather than "Junoesque" as Sonia had been characterized by more than one person who met her, well, Asenath was possessed by a MAN. The characterization of Dr. Munoz below is a photo of your curator. The "Fish wife" drawing in ink was the work of Richard Corben and appeared in the early 70s publication, H. P. L. (Exhibit 450)
