Hello everyone and happy Saturday to you all. I was inspired by @salboreads to post this #bookstackforacause today which was first started by @contemporaryfiction and @katrin.loves.books March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness month and this is a cause very close to my heart as I work in Bowel Cancer Screening. I’m passionate about raising awareness of the benefits of screening and it’s wonderful to hear of the cases of cancer we’ve been able to find and treat that people have been completely unaware of. It might not be a particularly pleasant thing to talk about but boy, is it important! Latest figures show that almost one third of people who were sent a screening kit in England last year didn’t complete it. Hopefully that will change as we get more comfortable speaking about this kind of issue. March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness month. Some know our story about my late husband, Brad, being diagnosed on January 21, 2008 and the 9years, 8months, 3days that followed. He wasn't even 50 when diagnosed! Fifty is when they start screening you for Colorectal Cancer. This is no longer an "old person" cancer as more people in their 20's, 30's and 40's are being diagnosed with Colorectal Cancer. Colorectal Cancer is the #2 leading cause of cancer death in both men and women. It is also Preventable, Treatable and Beatable, BUT (all puns intended) because it is "that part of the body" NO ONE wants to talk about it, get screened, or take notice of any changes that occur in that area. My advice...GET OVER IT!!!! If what's up your butt ain't working right or you have a family history of Colorectal Cancer TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR!!!
