Latest Trends In Indian Wedding Garlands
The traditional Indian Wedding Garland or the varmala is a symbol of exchange and acceptance. The flowers strung together bind the couple as they step into matrimonial life and kick start the wedding ceremonies.
Beloved as bridal blooms are to marriages owing to their sacred and cultural significance, they have increasingly become a prime focus for a well-coordinated aesthetic. The varmala is not merely functional in completing a ritual; it is the center of attention and a statement. Couples want to stay abreast with the latest trends and pick out floral festoons that beautifully complement their wedding attires.
The wedding varmala is an important choice to make and should be shopped for with a few considerations in mind. Opt for those that are comfortable to don for extended time periods and select flowers while being mindful of strong fragrances and allergies and irritations. It is advised to go for nn-fragrance blooms if this is an issue.
Evergreen as fresh flowers are, let’s look at a few of the up and coming trends in wedding garlands that are quickly becoming popular.
Tumblr media
Spray-Painted
Textures add an intriguing element to the appearance and colors are a great way to do so with frilly blooms like carnations and hydrangeas. Spray-painted flowers can help attain gorgeous gradients to create a Wedding Garland that is simple yet chic and would definitely be a contemporary hit.
Tumblr media
Ombre
Ombre here refers to creating a gradient by choosing the same variety of flowers in different colors or different blossoms of similar hues. Such stylish varmalas are ideal for a perfectly color-coordinated appearance. It could take the shape of a velvety Rose Garland in different shades of pink or carnation or Orchid Garlands that are available in plenty of vibrant varieties whose contrasts would guarantee a few head-turns.
Tumblr media
Monochrome
Alluring in its minimalism, a monochromatic fresh Flower Garland steals hearts as well. Amidst luxuriant and flamboyant wedding ensembles, you can strike a fine balance by opting for a festoon in blooms of only a single color that either match your attire or stand out in stunning contrast with it. While red rose ones remain a classic, do consider pink and white rose ones, blue or purple orchids or carnations.
Tumblr media
Green Garlands
Tufted with leaves of traditional significance like tulsi, green garlands are another fresh and minimalist option to consider. They may be accentuated with a few rose petals or some gold or beaded embellishment. Jasmine flowers are most commonly mixed with greens to make sober wedding festoons of ritualistic significance.
Tumblr media
Faux Florals
Flowers fashioned out of tissues and glittering fabrics and ribbons are also a key element of varmala making. Their range of colors and versatility opens up various possibilities of design and combination.
Tumblr media
Knotted
Petite blooms like mogra or jasmine can be knotted in a similar fashion as Thai garlands to create interesting shapes that stand out in rustic beauty. These garlands can be embellished with pearls and rose petals and the pastel color scheme lends an elegant, princessy look.
Tumblr media
Beaded
Beaded garlands with minimal floral accents are easy to wear and very stylish. The beads also facilitate color coordination and blend with virtually any kind of blooms. Floral veni encasements along with embellishments of beads or luminous pearls are an absolute hit to create varmalas that embody the spirit of the exuberant desi wedding.

Aashumita and Aditya were in a relationship for over a decade. They got hitched in January 2019 and ‘are enjoying the bliss of marital life more than ever’! Check out their cute love story and simple wedding ceremony with some touching moments…
We met
So, I had called up one of my school friend in 2006, but Aditya answered the phone, since my friend was outside the room.He says that he instantly fell in love with my voice, and that’s how it all started. Initially,we were in a long distance relationship for 3 years. After that most of the times we were in same city.We stood by each other through all ups and downs and have grown together as strong individuals. Most important thing in any relationship is friendship and trust. We don’t keep any secrets from each other. Having lived with each other for 12 years we have only fallen deeper and deeper for each other.Being with each other is what we call ‘Happiness’ and he makes me laugh every single time I am with him.
Wedding planning
We planned our wedding ourselves along help from our family members. As we both hail from different cities,we had our own set of wedding functions at our home. Our wedding was a perfect amalgamation of our dreams, tradition and love.We loved every bit of as we had family members who came down from across the globe and friends who stood by us through it all.I was told that I was a very happy bride.I consider myself as one of the luckiest bride as all four of my grand parents attended my wedding (Maternal side and paternal side both).
Sangeet
We had morning Sangeet instead of an evening event, it being peak winter season.I dedicated my performance to my parents as they are the most important for me above anyone else. My Dad also sang ‘Babul ki duyaien leti ja’ song and left everyone wiping tears. My sisters, brothers, neighbours and other family members also performed during the event.
Mehendi
I customized my Bridal mehendi, from”sindoor daan” to our “wedding hashtag” to “Calling Ranchi” with a mobile phone”(where we first spoke on phone) to “varmala scene” to “his name” to “swastika” to “shehnai”.
Tilak
Usually the bride’s brother does this ritual. Since I only have a younger sister, she did this ritual and everyone supported the decision.
Haldi
Haldi was super fun,we played Holi and clicked lot of fun pictures.
The Big Day
We gave ‘Team Bride-Pink color badge’ and ‘Team Groom-Blue color badge’ to respective guests. I walked down the aisle with my Mom & Dad (color coordinated) and with my sisters and brothers carrying Rajasthani Umbrella in their hands. (Song in background- ‘Ek dil hai Ek jaan hai’ from movie ‘Padmaavat’. My groom entered on a Traditional Rath.(Song in background- ‘Azeem-o-shaan from movie ‘Jodha Akbar’.
Reception
We enjoyed the reception a lot; everyone danced to their hearts’ content. My husband surprised me with his dance performance on ‘Aj se teri- Padman’ song.
Advice for brides-to-be
Planning a wedding can be chaotic but it’s important to sort out all the details in advance and delegate as many tasks as one can. That way, brides can stay calm throughout and enjoy their day.

Trending Ideas Of Wedding Garland In Bangalore
Weddings in India are characterized by much pomp and glitter and are celebrated with the fervour that rivals that of the biggest festivals, in terms of numbers, preparations and the zest surrounding the events. While bling is certainly in and on top of the list when we talk of desi weddings, bridal flowers are another quintessential aspect of the decorations, ceremonies and the wedding trousseau that deserve no less attention.
Tumblr media
The wedding garland or the varmala is an integral part of the marriage rituals in what is known as jaimal. The exchanging of flower garland between the marrying couple is symbolic of the acceptance of the relationship and each other for the rest of their lives. The fun and frolic that ensues on both sides of the families in making the seemingly simple task a challenge for the bride and groom is another thing that guests look forward to.
Indian wedding garlands, though a tradition, have evolved in meaning and appearance over time to accommodate the tastes and priorities of the bride and groom. The trends in mammoth settlements like Bangalore take into account the preferences of the modern couple, the availability according to the season and the couple’s desire to keep it simple or flamboyant.
Tumblr media
Exotic flowers are always in demand in metropolitans with the orchid garland definitely taking the cake for popularity. Lightweight and available in various colors, orchids make for fabulous festoons that can be coordinated with the outfits of the bride and groom and the theme of the décor. Increasingly creative and eclectic alternatives are also being sought to stand out from the crowd, which makes couples look for Thai garlands and additions of greens, succulents and other eye-catching florals.
Tumblr media
Some trends, however, have solidified their position as classics and never disappoint. Garlands made of roses, jasmine and marigolds that have been favorites for years are combined with baby’s breath, lotus and other light and elegant blooms. A grand and fabulous-looking marriage garland is well-suited for a big fat Indian wedding but in recent years there has been an inclination towards subtler monochromes and softer tones, following the likes of celebrities. A floral garland designed entirely out of a single variety of flowers or even made wholly of greens  is the choice of those who wish for something unique yet not over the top. Another contemporary trend to take note of is the ombre or gradient garland- it can either be spray painted or made from blossoms of the same kind in different hues.
Tumblr media
Flowers like tuberoses, lilies and carnations, with their enrapturing textures and mesmerizing colors have also found a way into the flower varmala. Couples nowadays also seek to have garlands designed by including flowers as symbolic elements to denote some special meaning and make the ritual even more significant to them personally.
The rich spectrum provided nowadays provides for experimenting and stepping up to the occasion without compromising in comfort or personal style. Make your garland exchanging ceremony truly meaningful and enjoyable by choosing a wedding garland that translates your personality and desires in its assortment of flowers.
