I love your work! It is so hard to find good Baki writers. Could you please do a Yujiro x Female fighter reader. I feel like Yujiro would actually start falling head over heels with a reader who fights well and is as sadistic as him.
Thank you! And yes, realistically speaking - or at least what makes most sense in my opinion - Yuujirou would go for someone that not only is submissive to him (because any human would then suffice), but also shows impressive skill and strength. There’s an interesting idea that I once read in the introduction of “The Gates of Janus”, the book written by serial killer Ian Brady. The foreword author argued that Ian is what you’d call a rat king, an alpha above most alphas, and that for such personalities, most of the time, an equally dominant woman is sought for as a partner. Naturally she’d submit to him still, but only a woman of high dominance could keep up with this kind of intense character. This mentality felt a bit outdated and potentially misogynistic to me, but I think it really fits in the case of Yuujirou. Sorry for the ramble.
Yandere! Yuujirou Hanma x Fighter! Reader
Featuring The Ogre and a female reader that nearly matches him in strength and ruthlessness. TW: Dubious consent, violence.
[Baki Masterlist]
Yuujirou can have anyone in the world, whether man or woman. It’s not up to them, really. It’s up to his mood and whims. And when he can have just about anyone, actually finding someone worth his interest becomes a difficult task. He doesn’t need an extra weight to drag around and as far as he’s concerned, commitment is not something he requires in his life. What would be the point?
No, for someone of his status, commitment doesn’t come as moral etiquette or requirement for a relationship. He has considered it, and in theory it could only be offered out of his genuine interest and never demanded by someone else. For The Ogre himself to fixate on one person and never wander eyes anywhere else… They would really have to impress him. Guarantee him that this is a one time deal never to be found again. And once that person is found, they’d do well to perform their role as his partner because there is no way out of it.
Lamentably, such temptation has never crossed his path. That is until a feminine figure strides into the ring of the Underground Arena. Yuujirou is ready to burst with laughter, but he’s quickly silenced by the rather abrupt end of the match. The mysterious character remains unfazed by the opponent’s blow and uses the opportunity to swiftly twist and crush the offensive limb. With the same indifference plastered on the face throughout the agonizing wails of the much larger man, she delivers her ending move and within seconds the arena is quiet again. After recollecting himself from this unexpected succession, Yuujirou turns to Strydum that’s been watching with similar amazement. “Who the hell is that?” He grunts. “I don’t know. Should I find out?”
Sometimes Yuujirou will replay the encounter in his head. He still gets shivers of raw excitement whenever he remembers your eyes back then. That utterly defiant glare. Strydum had asked you to meet them in private and as you entered the room, you immediately demanded to know why you’d been summoned. The Colonel begun fumbling in terror, almost begging you indirectly to not upset the redheaded man. “M-Mr. Hanma wished to see you, Miss (Y/N)-“ he was interrupted by your resounding snarl. “And who the fuck is Mr. Hanma to afford such audacity?” At that moment Yuujirou stood up, hands in pockets but visibly tensed up. You instinctively clenched your fists and frowned at the unspoken difference in power. The Ogre was halfway expecting you to fold and apologize, but after a minute your expression relaxed and your confidence returned. “Bitch. You’d rather die than give up your pride, huh?” He smirked at the thought. There was something about your attitude that greatly pissed him off but also turned him on at the same time.
The hardest part is getting you to accept him as your partner. See, Yuujirou will never beg or ask nicely. On the other hand, he’d rather not kill you, and severely damaging you in any way would take away the fun that caught his attention in the first place. That’s the dilemma: you’re stubborn and he can’t use force. Then again it’s not like he’s a mindless brute. Quite the opposite, only if he feels like it. A little charm with a dash of intimidation and you should be convinced, right? Don’t push it, (Y/N). If he really has to choose, he’d rather have you dead than belonging to someone else. It’s either him or nothing.
Really, it’s to your advantage if you learn to behave. He can give you everything you desire. He’s rather experienced in spoiling his women, and for you he’ll go the extra mile. Knowing he tamed you of all people is all the payment he could ever ask for. The satisfaction of putting you in your place, of having you cling to him fills him with greedy pride. A cocky smile distorts his features whenever the realization hits. If there’s such a thing as a soulmate, he’s found his. Although he doesn’t believe in that kind of bullshit.
A frightening pair in the eyes of most people. The Ogre relishes in the fact that displaying you as his woman has further increased his reputation instead of signaling any trace of weakness. As the time passes his conviction only strengthens: there’s no other place for you. You’re all his. Yet his favorite detail, what makes him flushed and dazed and addicted, is that no matter what he does to you as you lay there sprawled, naked, broken, your dignity never leaves. That prideful gaze that leers back at him makes him feel like he’s facing a mirror.

I'm bored, and more importantly for the sake of this post, I am someone who's a huge fan of the games made by Weather Factory. I also am an aspiring academic in religious and mythological studies hence why the games made by WF are so appealing to me.
Thus I'm going to share some of my theories/headcanons on which real life deities mythical beings and other religious figures are alternate identities / names /titles for the Hours of The Secret Histories universe, just for the fun of it.
1. The Mare is known as Batō Kannon, or Hayagriva Avalokiteshvara in East Asia. Likewise The Apple Bright is probably Cánshén / Memyō Bosatsu and maybe maybe be The Queen Mother of The West.
2. The Wheel is not just Kubera but all of the Lokapāla & Dikpāla / Four Heavenly Kings / 12 Deva . Particularly I think his status as a Zeus-like figure that gives birth to the Dionysian Moth invokes Indra, his status as the "low-red sun" would equate him to Surya and his eye symbolism would connect him to Shiva in either his Mahakala or Ishana incarnations.
3. The Thunderskin is Xipe Totec, what with the flaying, the association with protection from disease, and the connections to perpetual natural cycles. And if that's the case, The Thunderskin is the Red Tezcatlipoca
4. Thus I think that The Colonel and The Lionsmith might correspond to two of the other four Tezcatlipocas. However I am not certain as to which of the two Edge Hours would be the Blue Smoking Mirror and which one would be the Black, as The Colonel is associated with scarred and amputated mythological figures and the Black Tezcatlipoca is missing a leg and despite being associated with the night was also one of the Five Suns which would explain The Colonel's association with the Lantern Principal. Buuuuuttttttttt The Black Tezcatlipoca is also so so so associated with Jaguars and felines are in The Lionsmith's wheelhouse so who knows I might not actually be on to something with that particular line of mythological speculation after all.
5. Just as The Wolf-Divided is almost certainly inspired by the Nordic Monstrous canines such as Fenrir/Garmr and especially his offspring Sköll and Hati, I think so too Snow must be Hel. After all, The Wolf and Snow are deeply associated beyond just them sharing the Winter Principal. The fact that Chione, a Name-Emanation of Snow was defeated or suppressed by The Colonial whom we know is Wodan/ Odin also helps to confirm this for myself.
6. Given her patronage of The Invisible Serapeum, and that one of her Names is called the "Lady of Veils" I think there's a strong possibility that The Forge of Days was known to the Egyptians, particularly those under Roman rule, as the goddess Isis.
.
.
.
.
.
.
I have a few other speculations and mythological associations that I've made in my mind but those would take a bit more explaining in order to make any sort of sense. So I will save my Watchman is Apollo and how that relates to whatever the hell is going on with Janus and his whole deal in The SH universe for another time.

The Siege II, Pt. 6
Sheppard, Colonel Everett and Weir continue their discussion on the plan to send remote controlled jumpers into the hives, Sheppard suggesting that they could approach the Genii to get more nukes. Given the kind of history he personally has with them, this is no small matter to him. It's a sign of desperation that he's even willing to entertain it. He blinks between telling them that he has an idea and that he thinks he knows where to get one, emphasizing how uncomfortable just saying it out loud makes him.
As they hash out the plan, they hear Teyla in the gate room trying to get to Weir to inform her that she can sense the wraith within Atlantis. Note that both the Colonel and Weir take steps to get closer to the source of her voice where Sheppard only turns his body, and not even all the way at that. Even though McKay and Zelenka had already left the room, there's a magnet pulling him in the exact opposite direction from her.
There is another time-skip and a large number of marines have gathered in the gate room, prepared to sweep the city to take care of the problem. Sheppard keeps glancing at the men as he passes, probably assessing the capabilities of the soldiers that are unfamiliar to him.* Something interesting happens then, as Sheppard shows the Colonel their Ancient life-signs detector:
Sheppard: How many darts crashed? Everett: Between twenty and thirty. And internal sensors are still down. Sheppard: Well, we have this. It can't differentiate between wraith and human but if we confine all base personnel to designated areas, the blips that show up out of bounds will be the likely targets. Everett: Let me see that. Sheppard: Won't do you any good. You need the gene. Everett: I got the gene therapy too.
Col. Everett getting the gene therapy successfully is interesting because there is a notable change in him, his disposition toward our main cast changes the further we go. Obviously it's possible this is just because he gets to know them better but later he seems almost... sheepish, especially with regards to Weir. One might describe him even as smitten, to use Weir's own term. Now, Weir doesn't have the gene so Col. Everett's gene therapy would not have made him take an interest in her unless he held no interest in women previously and the gene also makes the carriers bisexual or more open to bisexuality. I have theorized that the Ancients were all effectively bisexual because of their assortative mating strategy (as there were so few of them, they all found each other powerfully sexually attractive to ensure the continuation of their species, so much so that it transcended gender). Janus--being the god of the doorway that swings both ways--for one seems to have been bisexual, he had "many lovers".
There's a case to be made for all the authentic ATA gene carriers exhibiting varying levels of bisexuality or bicuriosity. For them, it is natural. For the people in whom the gene is artificially activated, not so much. So, depending on how good of a friend we think Colonel Marshall Sumner was to the man with whom he served many years together, a budding interest in a woman such as Weir might be an entirely new experience for him. This is highly speculative, however, and probably only relevant to McKay and "the weirdest thing about that timeline," which will come much later.
It's also interesting that they make mention of Teyla's special ability to sense the wraith in the very same scene, as Sheppard and the Colonel are walking much closer to one another than Ford and Radner behind them, and when they come to a stop they stand with their heads bent together, the Colonel turning his entire body toward Sheppard to talk.
It's entirely possible that the Colonel, having received the gene therapy successfully, is just as drawn to Sheppard as everyone else with the gene seems to be. The gene is exceptionally strong in him so it kind of makes sense for other people carrying the gene to find him attractive. He is something like a beacon for them. After getting the therapy, Col. Everett also seems to be open to suggestion from Sheppard, agreeing to arm the Athosians and let them help sweep the city for wraith.
Also, not to make a whole thing out of it, but Sheppard does also check out the Colonel's ass not once but twice probably just because it's right there. This man is so in love that he thinks McKay has actually hung the moon but he still has a pair of eyes on him. Eyes that he can't quite seem to be able to keep to himself.
But Sheppard's attitude here is also curious. He seems nonchalant as he displays the piece of Ancient technology to the Colonel, as though it's not a big deal, he just happens to posses the gene. Only, he seems much too casual about it for it to not mean anything to him. The gene is what makes him special. Having the gene is what has brought him here. The gene is what makes him their best line of defense since he is the one that can manouver the command chair.
It is possible that the gene is what has made it possible for him to break certain rules, to take certain liberties with regulations and standing orders, because they need him. While it may not be the gene that makes him feel like the rules don't always apply to him, it's something that he can always use to justify it to himself.
While Sheppard and the marines start hunting for the wraith, Weir informs them via radio that the Genii have agreed to meet with them, demanding that only one unarmed representative be sent. Weir offers to go by herself, which Everett commends. In fact, he offers to buy Weir a drink if she pulls this off, which is an indication that the Colonel is growing a sweet spot for her. But I'll also draw your attention to the fact that Sheppard has no problem with this plan. We get no reaction from him whatsoever. If Weir is the best person to get them the nukes, he's perfectly fine with her going to the lions' den alone.
Obviously he doesn't wish that anything happens to her but Weir's life is not a priority for him. Weir's safety is an abstract concern and he finds clearing the city from the wraith a more important task at the moment, apparently especially the part of the city where McKay is because he is taking care of that personally (cf. further on). There is not a chance in deepfrozen hell that Sheppard would ever have let McKay go to the Genii homeworld alone. Let's just put that out there. There are many times over the seasons that McKay has to go places without Sheppard and every time, every time, Sheppard makes sure he has a security escort.
And this is important when we come to the resolution of the episode because many people will hear Sheppard's exchange with Weir just before he boards the jumper and come to the conclusion that she is his motivation for doing it. She is not. Sheppard tells Weir that she knows why he has to do it which is very different from doing it for her. For Sheppard, Weir's life is an acceptable loss. They grow closer over the years, Sheppard is much affected by losing her as he does multiple times, but she still continues being an acceptable loss for him. Losing McKay, however, is not acceptable. He is willing to kill, die, cheat, lie, threaten, manipulate, bully, weather sand storms, dive the ocean, he is willing even to give him up when he thinks it would make him happy, and this is just beginning of the list of things John Sheppard is willing to do to make sure that he does not lose McKay.
While Sheppard and the marines are hunting for the wraith, McKay and Zelenka are working on getting the jumpers to work remotely, trying to make something come out of Sheppard's plan. It's interesting that this scene also picks up the concept of having the gene and how it makes one special, Beckett in this instance. Noteworthy is that McKay has a P-90 on him while he works. Yes, he has his own gun that he has used on missions but it is not customary for him to work with an assault weapon. The way he's holding on to it, Sheppard has probably put it into his hands. He seems unable to let go of it.
McKay also seems to be extremely exhausted. Colonel Everett called attention to this earlier, but it seems he can barely stay awake. This also is relevant for how the ending of the episode plays out. McKay appears to be entirely engrossed in solving the problem, which is what Sheppard was going for, but he is still showing signs that he is distraught. He has to manhandle Beckett onto the chair:
Beckett: There's other people on this base that possess the Ancient gene. Dr. Kusanagi, for example. I'm sure she'd relish the opportunity to help. McKay: I am exhausted and starving, so sit down. Carson, it's out of drones, you couldn't do any damage if you wanted to. Thank you. --OK, we're in business. Head down to the Jumper Bay, radio me when you get there.
So, first of all, we learn that Dr. Kusanagi is a woman so she is very likely the Japanese Dr. that had a crush on McKay from Letters from Pegasus (S01E17). Second, McKay clearly does not want to be around her and tries to avoid having to work with her, which is understandable since she seemed much too keen on him. Third, they make a mention of McKay starving here. He's hypoglycemic but we haven't really had any references to him eating for a very long time beyond the sandwich that someone had made for him in his lab. Further, Afghan chutney, a type of relish one might put on a sandwich often contains cumin which McKay seemed not to enjoy very much. Using the verb 'relish' in this context might be a covert reference to the sandwich business.
From this scene we find out that McKay has not had time to eat in a while because he has been working non-stop and probably has been too anxious to even feel hunger. McKay really seems to have lost his appetite at some point in the season which frequently happens when a person falls in love. Many of the hormones secreted when people fall in love suppress the appetite, and given the gusto with which we saw McKay eat in the beginning of the season all the way up until Underground (S01E07), something has definitely caused a change in him in that regard. They are also calling attention to the fact that McKay is not just exhausted but also starving which combined with the drugs Beckett administers for him later all contribute to how he responds to Sheppard later. And finally, we should note that once again, McKay says thank you. He actually seems to say thank you more than the other characters combined which makes Sheppard's comment about him never saying it pretty interesting.
With Zelenka in the jumper bay, they attempt to get remote control by using the chair working. McKay is guiding Beckett through it, seeming to take great care that he gets it right.
McKay: Okay, give it a test. Zelenka: Standing by. McKay: Carson, I need you to clear your mind and think about the Puddle Jumper. Think about bringing it online. Zelenka: Come on, come on, come on. Any time now! McKay: Carson. Look, I know you can do this. Just activate the Puddle Jumper. Zelenka: Yes! Yes, yes, yes! Rodney! Rodney! It works! McKay: Thank God!
While Sheppard's intention may have been to take some of the pressure off of McKay and to get other people involved with saving their asses, McKay still puts all the pressure on himself to solve everything and save everyone. And it's especially important for him to get this to work because it was an ask from Sheppard. In his mind, Sheppard needs this to get done and that's why he's going to do his damnedest to see that it gets done.
But McKay is also exhibiting the kind of patience and understanding we rarely see in him as he tries to guide Beckett through the ordeal. It's likely that the way McKay is here, now, with Beckett, is much more like his previous tests with Sheppard would have been like that we never got to see. And now, because this is important for him and because he is doing this for Sheppard, he is using the same tone with Beckett. Sheppard is his motivation for getting this thing to work.
The relief McKay exhibits when they get it to work brings it home to just how much pressure he has been under. He feels exhausted, sitting down by the platform while Beckett is still working the chair. This is a man with the weight of the world on his shoulders, and it doesn't matter how much Sheppard might try to ease his burden, he is working to save Sheppard just as hard as Sheppard is working to save him. McKay's respite is short-lived because as soon as he has closed his eyes, he gets a message from Weir that they have the nukes from the Genii that he needs to start working on.
Meanwhile, Sheppard himself is hunting the wraith, having paired up together with Ford. They seem to be using Ford as bait which is beginning to chafe on him:
Sheppard: You OK? Ford: Yeah. How 'bout next time, you can be the bait? Sheppard: Yeah, maybe. Next time. OK, this way.
Sheppard tells him next time but does not appear to mean it. He seems to only be half-listening to Ford anyway, focused on taking out the wraith in this part of the city. He barely takes his eyes off of the life-signs detector to look at him. Obviously there is no point in jeopardizing the superior officer but Ford seems to think Sheppard could at least offer out of solidarity. But it is significant in that this is another indication that Sheppard does not have a death wish, he is being careful with his own life because he has something, someone, to live for. He has a reason not to want to put himself needlessly in jeopardy because he has someone he needs to take care of, and making sure he is around to take the wraith out is a requisite for that. And he is being extremely cautious with the wraith, even shooting it while it is dead on the ground several times for good measure.
When it comes to Sheppard's motivation here, let me run this by you real quick:
Because these views of the city are shot from different angles and there are two scenes (of Col. Everett's group in the central tower and Teyla's group in another tower in the centre part of the city), it is easy to miss the fact that Sheppard and Ford are clearing the wraith out of the exact part of the city where McKay is. Because everyone else had been ordered to get to the central part of the city so that they could flush out the wraith, McKay and Beckett were the only non-military personnel that were on one of the promontories. And while both Col. Everett and Teyla had larger entourages with them, Sheppard had taken only Ford with him. This was a personal mission for him.
We also get a close up of Sheppard's life signs detector and it is showing two dots but they are blinking out of sync which seems to indicate a different depth, i.e., the life-signs being on different floors. Sheppard and Ford are standing closer together than the dots are from each other (they are at the centre of the screen; Ford is also standing at Sheppard's '5 o'clock' so he can't be the dot to their '1 o'clock'), and McKay and Beckett were also in close proximity. It blinks four times, counting four people, two and two.
Also, between Col. Everett saying the words "get some weapons for these people" and when we see McKay and Zelenka on the chair platform after that, McKay is holding his P-90. Ergo, Sheppard probably went directly from the gate room to the chair platform and shoved that weapon in McKay's hand before he did anything else and here he is with Ford, the only other people in the same part of the city as McKay and Beckett, making sure it's wraith-free.
John Sheppard is not taking any chances with McKay's life. He is quite literally going to keep that man alive even if it kills him.
Now, I doubt anyone would have caught this when the episode aired on television. I would be really surprised if they had. It's obscured by having several scenes in between and the panoramic views of the city shifting quickly from one view to another. And yet, it's there. It's not just editing and direction, they actually had to computer generate these views of the city. Actual considerable effort (and real money) went into making this happen and yet it was intended for most people to completely miss. It flashes by so quickly, most people are going to miss that Sheppard and Ford are the only people in the same part of the city as McKay and Beckett, that Sheppard is personally making sure McKay is safe. But it's there. It's there. The subtextual goddamn narrative is there and they were doing it on purpose.
John Sheppard is protective of Rodney McKay in particular. We see this play out again and again and again. And this is crucial for understanding the ending of the episode.
If McKay was relieved when they finally got the remote control on the jumpers to work and knew they could go ahead with Sheppard's plan, Sheppard himself seems extremely relieved once they have cleared out all the wraith in the city. He too has a short moment for a breath of relief.
Their relief is short-lived, however. It turns out the Genii nukes are incomplete and McKay takes his emotional support P-90 to Weir's office, which she seems to be sharing with the Colonel at this point, to inform her of this. He is still none-too-sympathetic toward the Colonel, sounding much more abrasive toward him than he had with Zelenka and Beckett earlier. He also flat out ignores the Colonel's first comment, as he is wont to do when he doesn't deem something worth responding to, as he often does e.g., with Ford.
The fact that McKay is not letting go of the weapon, he is not setting it down when the wraith have now been cleared out of the city and where any of the other scientists only seem to have thigh holsters for hand weapons that none of them have actually been seen using in any capacity, just seems to confirm that it was Sheppard that put the gun in his hands and told him to keep it with him at all times. Because if Sheppard tells him to do something, he is damn well doing it. And if this was the case, holding on to the weapon would also keep the comforting thought of Sheppard with him the whole time.
Both Sheppard and McKay seem to do doing what they are doing primarily for the other man. They are trying to protect the other, they are trying to keep each other safe. And while they are concerned for each other's well-being, neither of them knows how hard the other is working toward the same damn goal.
Continued in Pt. 7
-* It might also be possible that the men he checks out as he walks are the ones that have successfully undertaken the gene therapy. If we've seen anything throughout the first season is that McKay is the actual centre of his universe but it would nonetheless be interesting to see the ATA gene have this kind of an effect. It's never spelled out and yet we see it play out again and again.

Which Thunderbirds Are Go episode is better?
Vote on which episode you think is better. Episode synopses below the cut.
Chain of Command: During a joint operation between International Rescue and the Global Defence Force, a series of mishaps nearly ends in disaster. In the wake of the botched mission, Colonel Martin Janus takes over the GDF, imposing a strict set of restrictions on International Rescue. As Lady Penelope and Parker attempt to reason with the colonel, they begin to realize that he is not quite what he seems.
Recharge: High in the Arctic, a machine designed to harness the energy of the Aurora Borealis has gone haywire, and could permanently disrupt the magnetic field protecting the Earth if not repaired. Despite Virgil's insistence that they both need a break, Scott answers the call with Virgil and MAX in tow. Complicating matters are both the machine's interference with Thunderbird 1 and 2's flight capabilities (forcing Scott and Virgil to configure pods with skis to cross the treacherous ice), and Scott's alarming displays of impatience which are leading him to recklessly cast safety aside to complete the mission.

as I’m back on my Thunderbirds fix, and writing my sentient!Thunderbirds stories again, I’ve noticed,,, each Thunderbird I’ve written for has a different origin of how they gained their sentience and transformation abilities.
I know back when I roleplayed as Thunderbird One, I didn’t have a definitive for her - it was more of a ‘it just happened’ thing. The other day I sat down and wrote something (using reference an rp I did with @/flyboytracy) and that method was with an Allspark shard (think Transformers Animated). In this writing, it’s an accidental thing where the shard ties itself to One’s systems.
I’ve been mostly writing again for Thunderbird Four and changed what I had for her originally. I think she was also activated by an Allspark shard but, I changed her to being more Terran-like after watching Transformers Earthspark. The whole thing with the Emberstone was so cool to me >w<
Also, Gordon gets a cool cyber-sleeve so, that makes me happy c:
And then I have one piece of writing that’s abt Thunderbird Two and her having a go at Colonel Janus…
No origin thought out there but xD Yeahhh haha.
Now thinking about it, I’m tempted to one day post these stories… if i feel like it 🤔
They’re mostly like, aftermaths of the TAG episodes - like, what the Thunderbirds thought about the rescues and stuff, what worries they had for their pilots, etc… Maybe one day~…
Anyway, that’s my little thought rant for the day. Thanks for reading, if you did >w<

Good Cop
Full Name: Alastar Gabriel Callaghan Age: 37 Species: human Class: Warrior/Sorcerer Talents: speechcraft Background: Born Janus twins, Alastar shares his body with his brother Cary. He is the more mild-mannered and friendly of the two of them, preferring diplomacy over violence. His title of Colonel was gained moreso through the technicality that he does share a body with his twin than through any effort to earn his promotion.

Patton wipes the tears from Janus’ face, and Janus laughs a little.
But it'll be over soon Just wait
Janus catches Patton’s hand and keeps it on his face.
Hey, what can you say? We were overdue
Patton says this, smiling.
But it'll be over soon You wait
Janus also says this, also smiling.
Hey, what can you say? We were overdue
Patton leans in to kiss Janus.
They pull back to say the last lines together.
But it'll be over soon You wait Hey, what can you say? We were overdue But it'll be over soon You wait

The Thousand Names by Django Wexler
Today's sapphic book of the day is The Thousand Names by Django Wexler!
Summary: "Enter an epic fantasy world that echoes with the thunder of muskets and the clang of steel—but where the real battle is against a subtle and sinister magic....
Captain Marcus d’Ivoire, commander of one of the Vordanai empire’s colonial garrisons, was resigned to serving out his days in a sleepy, remote outpost. But that was before a rebellion upended his life. And once the powder smoke settled, he was left in charge of a demoralized force clinging tenuously to a small fortress at the edge of the desert.
To flee from her past, Winter Ihernglass masqueraded as a man and enlisted as a ranker in the Vordanai Colonials, hoping only to avoid notice. But when chance sees her promoted to command, she must win the hearts of her men and lead them into battle against impossible odds.
The fates of both these soldiers and all the men they lead depend on the newly arrived Colonel Janus bet Vhalnich, who has been sent by the ailing king to restore order. His military genius seems to know no bounds, and under his command, Marcus and Winter can feel the tide turning. But their allegiance will be tested as they begin to suspect that the enigmatic Janus’s ambitions extend beyond the battlefield and into the realm of the supernatural—a realm with the power to ignite a meteoric rise, reshape the known world, and change the lives of everyone in its path."

Agreed - there’s a lot more of an innocent “what, this isn’t the way the world is supposed to work?!!” here than one might have expected.
This episode always fascinates me - what was the Hood’s plan here? Was it always to allow himself to be arrested and join up with the chaos crew as arranged… or would he have taken the chance to take out a Tracy or two if it had arisen? Grandma’s “solution” to Scott’s paralysis about rescuing the man who killed their father was very clever in its technicality (giving the boys and Kayo both the rescue their conscience demanded and an element of the revenge they craved) but the ethics are suspect and I do often wonder whether it pushed the Hood into his new “it’s fun to be evil” mode as opposed to the previous “I just want to be rich and don’t care who I hurt along the way.” Would 3rd series Hood have rescued Kayo rather than the fuel? Would first series Hood have left Gordon to die or would he just have tried to steal TB4? It also is a challenge for Scott, and I think he might regret his actions that day, further down the line. For all the pain and loss they’ve experienced, I don’t think he comes across as cynical in canon, rather as someone stubbornly committed to “the right thing is the right thing” despite the rest of the world taking a more pragmatic approach. He is Mr Moral high ground. His best moments are when he can return to that innocent certainty, like with the rescue scouts or in a completely different scenario but same drive - the situation with Colonel Janus.

Tunnels of Time: A few months after International Rescue uncover an ancient temple in South America, Lady Penelope, as a representative of World Heritage, visits it along with Parker, Gordon, and Professor Harold, an archaeologist of a dubious reputation whom Penelope suspects of stealing artefacts. On entering the temple, everyone become trapped inside except for Harold, who manages to escape but refuses to call for help, not wishing the temple to be destroyed. Suspecting something is wrong, Scott and Virgil head to the scene to provide assistance, as Gordon, Penelope and Parker attempt to escape from the temple's many traps.

Chain of Command - Re-Review #23
“How quickly can we stablise that bridge?”
“Faster than you can say ‘Thunderbirds are go’.”
“Thunderbirds are go.”
“Ok, maybe I was exaggerating a little.”
So... Firstly I thought you would all appreciate Scott popping up like that in your feed! Secondly though, that didn’t exactly go to plan... I mean, there’s meant to be a bridge and the bridge kinda tumbles, and with that we have our first known failed (I use that word lightly because the only thing lost was something which can be rebuilt) rescue and our episode!
“Head’s up!”
“Heads up? Thunderbird Two, how about duck?”
“Duck!”
“This may not be as bad as it looks.”
“Really?”
I’ll admit I was a little worried about Scott falling... and I just want to say that that was a very mean place in which to insert the opening credits!
“Scott, head’s up.”
“Don’t you mean duck?”
“Not this time.”
P.S. Thunderbird One has a Protocol Alpha in case of emergency? That is just so cool!
“It’s settling. All structures do.”
“Oh no.”
“It times like this I’m glad I’m up here.”
Yeah, I’m with you John.
So Colonel Casey (right) has always played a big part in the Thunderbirds story (for playing a very little part in the actual series). Colonel Casey’s only televised appearance (prior to TAG) was in the TOS episode ‘The Edge of Impact’. In this episode we are told that he knows nothing of IR’s operations. However we later learn in ‘The Imposters’ that Jeremiah Tuttle (left) does know, and is even an Agent like Lady Penelope! This always struck me as odd, as in the TV series (1965), Casey is described as being one of Jeff’s best, long-term friends from when they both worked with the World Space Association. In the comics and cards that were released also in 1965, they adapted this, and implied Tim and Jeff met when they were young and then ended up re-meeting due to both working at WSA. Whichever you take as your gospel, both versions imply long term connection.
With all that in mind, and with him knowing the boys so well, it did always miff me as to why he wasn’t brought in on it. It does make more sense to have her involved in TAG. In TOS we had Tim, in TAG we have... they never said, so take your pick.
And enter Janus. Now, Janus originated in Ancient Roman Religion&Myth. In many ways, he’s like Hades (Greek Myth) - a keeper of gates, except the Roman’s didn’t associate him with ‘death’ as such, rather beginnings and endings or transitions. They also associated him with time (like Pluto), but in many ways he was imagined more like Mars (War). Images of him show him having two faces.
Janus was later associated with the Devil through the Witch Trials, believed to be a Witches God (but later proven as a male Priest dressed in a double faced mask). In the original saying of people being ‘two faced’, it was to imply they were like Janus, looking backwards and forwards, thus playing the field. So whether you want to think of him like Pluto, manipulating time, or like Mars, inciting war, or like Hades, seeking death, or just the two-faced keeper of pathways - ultimately it is undeniable that Janus is manipulative.
Exactly like this man, who doesn’t only manipulate the field during the episode, but is actually being manipulated himself by none other than The Hood.Talk about two faced, right?
P.S. Anyone else think these two were made to be at loggerheads with each other? I mean, look at those expressions!
“International Rescue has been answering to no-one for too long.”
“That’s the way we like it.”
“From now on we have to get the GDF permission to deploy. We’ve been grounded!”
“Scott, you haven’t technically been grounded. You just have to ask Colonel Janus for permission.”
Um... Lady Penelope, in his mind, they are the same thing.
The cross-talk is still perfection on this show too.
“That little control freak wants to get ‘is teeth hinto heverything.”
“Parker’s right. We can’t let Janus do this to us!”
“hI wasn’t talking habout the Colonel.”
But really Scott’s annoyance at being grounded! Heck, I can imagine he might have been one hell of a child to manage at times.
“I’ve got this.”
“Don’t forget to get permission.”
The little silence here just said it all. Alan isn’t helping the situation and scott better not do it because the conversation would turn into an argument.
“I’ll take care of that.”
Another good call, John.
“Permission denied? How can they do that!”
“Scott, you need to turn around. We really have been grounded.”
Maybe not the best thing to have to say to Scott though...
“Will ‘is Majesty be joining hus, M’Lady?”
Parker carrying Sherbet on his arm and under that umbrella was priceless! i love how the dog got the umbrella and not Lady Penelope!
“Soon to be the world’s tallest city.”
“Or the word’s shortest.”
“Call the Principal’s office and secure us a hall pass.”
“Way ahead of you.”
“This time we won’t take no for an answer.”
“And the answer is no.”
And the answer is actually: Thunderbirds Are Go.
Look at the family all together and bad-ass. That’s the brother’s we know right there. And I love how many of these moments this episode gave us. It was like a power house of Tracy family moments as well as well-written action and thought-through deceit.
“All agreed?”
“Agreed.”
Really, when they want to, these boys find it incredibly easy to agree and not bicker .I know I said it before in ‘Skyhook’, but I really do admire how they managed to write that quality so believably. In a family of that size you’re bound to have your fair share of disagreements - and through those, their agreements are perfectly valid and believable.
“Guys, this isn’t the time.”
“John’s right. We still have no word from Brains if it’s effective.”
“Sorry Scott, I really need to work on my phrasing. What I meant to say is... you have a situation.”
Maybe they should all work on their phrasing after this episode?
“Stall him while I track down Lady P. Maybe her connections will help.”
“If she doesn’t torpedo us for rocking the exact boat she told us not to.”
I’m calling that Gordon so got the blame (especially from Parker) for this one.
I love how many failed attempts this GDF team ends up with. Did they really think it would be that easy to break into a Thunderbird? Biggest mistake ever. Or maybe the biggest mistake ever was lying (oh, sorry, not knowing the truth to tell) to Parker.
“It was sabotage. Not our Equipment.”
“I knew it!”
Yeah, okay, give Alan a prize. He did call it ten episodes that you could find a picture of The Hood in the dictionary under the word sabotage.
Excuse me everyone whilst I get in contact with Oxford Dictionary and ask them to the the hundredth - and whatever number we’re on - reprint.
Together again! That’s twice in one episode - seriously, how lucky are we! But seriously I do love these moments because they are definitely how the boys live when there isn’t IR work to be done and serves to remind us of their humanity.
