Empress, you want messy? All I can say is that Colombian emerald processing center better strip search the Sparkles (everywhere iykwim) before they exit the emerald plant. Wouldn’t want any stray emeralds to go missing. If Aquazurras can disappear and RF borrowed jewelry get “lost,” even more so can emeralds. (Also, speaking of Colombian emeralds, remember Romancing the Stone back in the day, with Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner? Great movie with some true A-list stars!)=

LMAO you know what you just made me realize!? That Meghan is on a DIY waaaagh I am a Princess too public tantrum world tour.
So she goes to Nigeria to get herself a Princess title.
Then she goes to Colombia to get herself an Emerald tiara.
Let’s see what else does a DIY princess need 🧐 Anyone wanna take guesses on what’s next on her Pokemon you-gotta-catch-em all adventure!?

Emerald stone is typical green color gemstone that is mined from the cracks of rocks of granite. Emerald stone only reflects green color and does not get affected by heat. The origin of the emerald stone is principally considered to be Africa and Colombia. India is also recognized to produce or mine high-quality emerald stone (Panna in Hindi). To identify whether an emerald gemstone is real or fake one can place this stone on the white paper or cloth it will reflect green color. The green stone emerald relieves cool to the eyes and mind.

6/14/24 LinkedIn - from Rui Galopim de Carvalho
Gem quality emeralds are known to typically display internal characteristics, such as those known in gemmology as fluid inclusions and fissures, sometimes in such a quantity that it may compromise the stone's "crystalline" transparency, making polishing as bead, as cabochon or carving as an adequate options in fashioning. Colombian emeralds, such as those produced in the 16th and 17th century, were often carved with artistic or devotional motifs, in both low and high clarity rough material. This ca. 1635 green box (4 x 5 cm) made in Mughal India using gold sheet, set with faceted diamond in gold kundan, with an enamelled base, is set with 103 matched Colombian emeralds carved in shallow relief to depict cypress trees within borders of repeated stylized leaves, is a fine example of this fashioning solution. At the highest levels of the Mughal courts, a considerable number of carved emeralds were commissioned and this is believed to be one of those cases. Photos © Khalili Collections

A Historically Significant Emerald Ring
Featuring a square emerald-cut emerald weighing 5.27 carats, size 5¾, signed Valentin Magro.
A ring with a 400-year-old emerald from the 1622 Nuestra Señora de Atocha galleon shipwreck was put up for auction by Sotheby's to raise funds for humanitarian relief efforts in Ukraine. Its owner, Mitzi Perdue visited Ukraine this past summer.
The extraordinary treasures of the Nuestra Señora de Atocha reflect the unimaginable wealth and vast domain within the New World that Spain controlled in the early 17th century. When the overladen Spanish galleon tragically wrecked on a coral reef and sank off the Florida coast amidst a hurricane in 1622, the ship’s hold contained some 180,000 coins and 24 tons of ingots struck from Bolivian silver as well as 125 bars of gold bullion extracted from the Caribbean, Mexico and the Andes amongst its many treasures.
In addition to precious metals, the ship’s detailed log recorded an astonishing 70 pounds of rough-cut emeralds mined from Colombian sources in Chivor and Muzo which the Spanish had first learned of in the early 16th century. As Spain introduced these gems to a European and, in time, a global audience, their shocking depth of color, size, and clarity were unlike anything previously known from the long depleted Egyptian mines of antiquity.
After spending 363 years lost and submerged, the Atocha wreck (as it came to be known) captured the world’s attention when news first broke of its discovery in 1985. Long time treasure hunter Mel Fisher and his team had steadfastly searched an area off the coast of Florida for 16 years, weathering the loss of friends and family in the pursuit, before finally locating the remains of the ship and its precious cargo. These efforts required the belief and patronage of many individuals, amongst them Frank Perdue who was an early believer and fellow enthusiast of Atocha history.
The present lot is set with an expertly cut stone faceted from an emerald crystal recovered from the Atocha. In 1988, Mel Fisher and Frank Perdue worked with famed emerald lapidaries Reginald C. Miller and Jerrold Green of New York to select the best possible emerald crystals from their collection so that a fine gem could be cut for each of them. The resulting 5.27-carat stone was set in gold and proudly presented by Frank to his wife Mitzi as a cherished engagement present and in remembrance of this tremendous undertaking.

Negative by-products of the Colombian emerald trade: The Green Wars
The Green Wars
Colombia has dealt with a civil war starting from the mid-1950s that is still taking place in the country today. This sixty-year conflict between left-wing guerrilla groups, right-wing paramilitary groups, Colombian drug cartels, and the government, has displaced millions and has killed thousands of people. The emerald trade is at the center of funding this ongoing civil conflict in Colombia. Emeralds have helped fund many of the armed non-state actors (NSAs) involved in the Colombian internal conflict through means of emerald smuggling and the selling of these precious stones on the international black market. The international demand for emeralds is currently at an all-time high, which secures the continued funneling of millions of dollars annually to illicit organizations in Colombia that acquire and sell emeralds on illegal premise in order to fund their existences.
Dangers of the Colombian emerald trade
Because of their value on the international market, Colombian emeralds create a large illicit trade. Emerald smugglers, called guaqueros, poach on the mines, particularly along the Itoco River in the Muzo valley. During the day they scour the river beds and scavenge the mining fields for overlooked emeralds in private mines. By night, these smugglers try to rob safe houses that store the rough emeralds before they are able to be transported to safer areas. Guaqueros often compete with other guaqueros for the same loots, most of which return a large profit on the black market. This illegal mining activity is monitored by the National Police, but arrests are infrequent and jail sentences are usually short.
Thank you anon, this is helpful information. Sadly she doesn't care about exploitation.

Emerald is the green variety of the Beryl mineral family ,which also includes aquamarine and morganite.
It is said about emerald that “nothing greens greener”.
Colombian emeralds are the highest standard of emeralds. Although many other quality stones are found at other sources such as Brazil, Zambia, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Emerald origins are identifiable by a combination of colour and indicative inclusions.
The most expensive emerald sold was Elizabeth Taylor’s emerald pendant which sold for $6,578,500 ($280,000 per carat) in 2011.
