How To Make The Most Out Of Your #Thanksgiving Break

Depending on how much you enjoy your family breaks can either be the best thing ever or super crappy. If you think it would be better for you not to go home for holidays don’t feel obligated to. It can be hard with colleges that completely shut down during breaks however most do not. Most colleges are open at least during thanksgiving break because international students have no place to go. Sometimes professors will even invite over students for thanksgiving. I highly recommend doing a friendsgiving if you have enough friends and a kitchen. Christmas break is definitely harder because it’s longer but there are options. If you have a toxic family try to find somewhere else to go at least for part of break. It’s a lot better for your mental health. And in most cases there’s nothing your family can do because you’re far away from them anyway. Even if you love your family though breaks are gonna be weird at first and that’s normal. Adjusting to college can be difficult but once you’re used to it going home can be hard too. It’s normal though. 

TLDR; If your family sucks you don’t have to go home for break. There are other options. Even if they don’t tho it might take a bit to adjust at home and that’s normal

Thursday January 5, 2017: Aurevior, Paris! Ciao, Rome! Today I was up bright and early at 5:00AM ready to fly to Rome, Italy. Upon arrival, our group got lunch at a local joint near the hostel, then took a walking tour of the historic center of Rome (Spanish Steps, Pantheon, Trevi Fountains, etc...). This picture is from one of the residential buildings I saw as we were walking through; the buildings pretty much all look like this when it comes to their apartments and I absolutely fell in love with them. As we finished up our tour of the area, I was able to throw a coin in the Trevi Fountain, try gelato for the first time, and go to a wine-tasting and dinner party at a family owned restaurant! Cheese, bread, pasta, oh my! Before we took the bus back to the hostel to call it a night, we visited a couple of fountains and local bars that our tour guide suggested. A very long and busy day today, which will also describe the next 3 as well!
