Plot armor but it’s Bruce Wayne’s wealth.
Bruce is one of the richest men in the world. Bruce does not want to be one of the richest men in world.
He starts by implementing high starting salaries and full health care coverages for all levels at Wayne Enterprises. This in vastly improves retention and worker productivity, and WE profits soar. He increases PTO, grants generous parental and family leave, funds diversity initiatives, boosts salaries again. WE is ranked “#1 worker-friendly corporation”, and productively and profits soar again.
Ok, so clearly investing his workers isn’t the profit-destroying doomed strategy his peers claim it is. Bruce is going to keep doing it obviously (his next initiative is to ensure all part-time and contractors get the same benefits and pay as full time employees), but he is going to have to find a different way to dump his money.
But you know what else is supposed to be prohibitively expensive? Green and ethical initiatives. Yes, Bruce can do that. He creates and fund a 10 year plan to covert all Wayne facilities to renewable energy. He overhauls all factories to employ the best environmentally friendly practices and technologies. He cuts contracts with all suppliers that engage in unethical employment practices and pays for other to upgrade their equipment and facilities to meet WE’s new environmental and safety requirements. He spares no expense.
Yeah, Wayne Enterprises is so successful that they spin off an entire new business arm focused on helping other companies convert to environmentally friendly and safe practices like they did in an efficient, cost effective, successful way.
Admittedly, investing in his own company was probably never going to be the best way to get rid of his wealth. He slashes his own salary to a pittance (god knows he has more money than he could possibly know what to do with already) and keeps investing the profits back into the workers, and WE keeps responding with nearly terrifying success.
So WE is a no-go, and Bruce now has numerous angry billionaires on his back because they’ve been claiming all these measures he’s implementing are too expensive to justify for decades and they’re finding it a little hard to keep the wool over everyone’s eyes when Idiot Softheart Bruice Wayne has money spilling out his ears. BUT Bruce can invest in Gotham. That’ll go well, right?
Gotham’s infrastructure is the OSHA anti-Christ and even what little is up to code is constantly getting destroyed by Rogue attacks. Surely THAT will be a money sink.
Except the only non-corrupt employer in Gotham city is….Wayne Enterprises. Or contractors or companies or businesses that somehow, in some way or other, feed back to WE. Paying wholesale for improvement to Gotham’s infrastructure somehow increases WE’s profits.
Bruce funds a full system overhaul of Gotham hospital (it’s not his fault the best administrative system software is WE—he looked), he sets up foundations and trusts for shelters, free clinics, schools, meal plans, day care, literally anything he can think of.
Gotham continues to be a shithole. Bruce Wayne continues to be richer than god against his Batman-ingrained will.
Oh, and Bruice Wayne is no longer viewed as solely a spoiled idiot nepo baby. The public responds by investing in WE and anything else he owns, and stop doing this, please.
Bruce sets up a foundation to pay the college tuition of every Gotham citizen who applies. It’s so successful that within 10 years, donations from previous recipients more than cover incoming need, and Bruce can’t even donate to his own charity.
But by this time, Bruce has children. If he can’t get rid of his wealth, he can at least distribute it, right?
Except Dick Grayson absolutely refuses to receive any of his money, won’t touch his trust fund, and in fact has never been so successful and creative with his hacking skills as he is in dumping the money BACK on Bruce. Jason died and won’t legally resurrect to take his trust fund. Tim has his own inherited wealth, refuses to inherit more, and in fact happily joins forces with Dick to hack accounts and return whatever money he tries to give them. Cass has no concept of monetary wealth and gives him panicked, overwhelmed eyes whenever he so much as implies offering more than $100 at once. Damian is showing worrying signs of following in his precious Richard’s footsteps, and Babs barely allows him to fund tech for the Clocktower. At least Steph lets him pay for her tuition and uses his credit card to buy unholy amounts of Batburger. But that is hardly a drop in the ocean of Bruce’s wealth. And she won’t even accept a trust fund of only one million.
Jason wins for best-worst child though because he currently runs a very lucrative crime empire. And although he pours the vast, vast majority of his profits back into Crime Alley, whenever he gets a little too rich for his tastes, he dumps the money on Bruce. At this point, Bruce almost wishes he was being used for money laundering because then he’s at least not have the money.
So children—generous, kindhearted, stubborn till the day they die the little shits, children—are also out.
Bruce was funding the Justice League. But then finances were leaked, and the public had an outcry over one man holding so much sway over the world’s superheroes (nevermind Bruce is one of those superheroes—but the public can’t know that). So Bruce had to do some fancy PR trickery, concede to a policy of not receiving a majority of funds from one individual, and significantly decrease his contributions because no one could match his donations.
At his wits end, Bruce hires a team of accounts to search through every crinkle and crevice of tax law to find what loopholes or shortcuts can be avoided in order to pay his damn taxes to the MAX.
The results are horrifying. According to the strictest definition of the law, the government owes him money.
Bruce burns the report, buries any evidence as deeply as he can, and organizes a foundation to lobby for FAR higher taxation of the upper class.
All this, and Wayne Enterprises is happily chugging along, churning profit, expanding into new markets, growing in the stock market, and trying to force the credit and proportionate compensation on their increasingly horrified CEO.
Bruce Wayne is one of the richest men in the world. Bruce Wayne will never not be one of the richest men in the world.
But by GOD is he trying.

i just saw a post about how we just have to "live with" covid and wanting more protections from our government is unreasonable because we'll never wipe it out, it jumps species and is in all sorts of animal populations (like, true ok) so why even try to
and apparently the argument was aimed at people (who I haven't seen in the wild) who are arguing we should still be in lockdown. and i have mixed feelings about the idea of extended lockdown or attenuating isolations; but my main feeling at this point is not that the government should keep us apart but that the government should be trying to make it safer for us to be together
things the government could/should be doing about covid:
we know that ventilation/air movement helps a shitton. we should be incentivizing upgrades to ventilation systems in all public buildings with shit like rebates or tax deductions, while phasing in eventual legal requirements. (and uh. it has occurred to me that the US might actually be doing this sideways by there's currently this decade enormous tax incentives in re energy efficient upgrades for slowing climate change and you know. energy efficient hvac does tend to improve ventilation. extra point to biden here.)
mandatory paid sick leave so workers aren't under social or economic pressure to work when sick
passing out RT-LAMP tests like metrix that actually work instead of the rapid antigen tests that have become less and less reliable as the virus mutates
i don't know how you'd write this law but like 95% or more of computer-based work can be done remotely and companies should not be allowed to force people to return to the office. I know there's people who want to be back in person and I'm not saying they should be forced to stay home but ffs I know of at least two people CLOSE to me who worked remotely before the pandemic and at some point their workplaces tried to tell them they weren't allowed to do that anymore despite the pre-existing contracts. stop canceling remote work for people that want, need, or prefer it.
for that matter, every college lecture that was an online class during covid should still be offered as an online class, there is no reason to force students into auditoriums in person. you got the communications infrastructure up and running, why are you tearing it down. give people the OPTION. it increases accessibility for everyone!
covid vaccine immunity lasts about four months. this should be well-publicized and everyone should be able to re-up for free every four months. "every year, like the flu vaccine" is demonstrably not often enough. actually "for free" isn't good enough start handing out $10 gift cards you will be shocked at how many people who are resistant to the idea of vaccines will fold for $10 a shot
are there already laws on the books about masks in medical settings that some medical professionals are blatantly ignoring because they forgot what best practices were before the plague and they're 'tired of masking'? if not, pass laws. if so, fucking enforce them
oh another incentives for upgrades phasing into legal requirements thing: brass doorknobs and railings over stainless steel or whatever. microbes do not survive on brass surfaces
i mean. i know this one sounds too extreme to a lot of people but. UBI.
most if not all of these measures will prevent or ameliorate other pandemics of different diseases that may arise in the future. and just. generally improve our health and quality of life for other reasons.
I haven't felt safe to go to a concert since 2020. Maybe if I knew a venue was legally required to have ventilation to a certain standard and that none of the ticket takers and ushers were on the job sick to avoid risking loss of paycheck or job, and knew a larger percentage of the crowd had up to date vaccinations--maybe if any or all that, I might ever feel comfortable going to a show again.
wouldn't it be nice if those of us who have been disabled, by covid or other conditions, had accessible remote options but also occasionally felt safe enough to interact with and participate in wider society?
one of the arguments on the post I saw was how isolation was massively psychologically damaging and various strata of society were affected in all sorts of ways, from undersocialized kids to increased depression in--well across the board, I think. and here's the thing: WE KNOW. PEOPLE WITH CHRONIC HEALTH CONDITIONS, LONG COVID OR OTHERWISE, KNOW ISOLATION SUCKS REAL BAD. because we, both for our own health and due to disability ostracism, are still isolating and isolated more than most.
what are you as individuals or societies, what are our governments, doing to help make it safe and accessible to rejoin you????

Trump announces 'Golden Dome' space missile defenses that would cost $175 billion
President Donald Trump announced Tuesday the concept he wants for his future Golden Dome missile defense program — a multilayered $175 billion system that for the first time will put U.S. weapons in space.
Okay, so, let me get this straight:
We don’t have any money for
Maintaining and/or upgrading our rotting infrastructure
Feeding schoolchildren
Veterans’ healthcare
Veterans suicide hotlines
LGBTQ+ suicide hotlines
9/11 First Responders’ healthcare
The Head Start Program (education and care for impoverished kids)
Literally any foreign aid, like. at all (food, medicine, healthcare)
SNAP benefits
Financial programs designed to help people afford college
FEMA (Aiding and rebuilding communities after natural disasters)
NOAA (storm prediction, weather forecasts and alerts)
Climate change research
Helping rural communities afford to build/run farms
Expanding rail lines (passenger and/or freight)
Researching alzheimer’s, cancer, women’s health, etc.
Helping businesses and individuals switch away from coal and fossil fuels
Providing refuge and assistance to immigrants fleeing unsafe conditions
Programs that helped provide internet access to rural areas
The US Postal Service
Adequate staffing for air controllers
Just, like. a whole bunch of preexisting federal workers in general
Inspecting food & drugs and making sure they’re safe or issuing recalls
Vaccines, in general (research, development, and distribution)
Public Broadcasting (radio stations, TV networks)
and much, much more,
BUT,
We have money for a $175 BILLION missile defense system???

International Monetary Fund - Gen-AI: Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Work PDF.
ABSTRACT: Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to reshape the global economy, especially in the realm of labor markets. Advanced economies will experience the benefits and pitfalls of AI sooner than emerging market and developing economies, largely because their employment structure is focused on cognitive- intensive roles. There are some consistent patterns concerning AI exposure: women and college-educated individuals are more exposed but also better poised to reap AI benefits, and older workers are potentially less able to adapt to the new technology. Labor income inequality may increase if the complementarity between AI and high-income workers is strong, and capital returns will increase wealth inequality. However, if productivity gains are sufficiently large, income levels could surge for most workers. In this evolving landscape, advanced economies and more developed emerging market economies need to focus on upgrading regulatory frameworks and supporting labor reallocation while safeguarding those adversely affected. Emerging market and developing economies should prioritize the development of digital infrastructure and digital skills.

Terence and Scarlett, the youngest Deans in this Golden School's history. What kind of future do you think they'll bring?
I'm back on track my lovelies! Or rather, I never really left the AF train: I just needed some time to plan things out. I've sketched out the rest of the school staff, but I'll give priority to finishing chapter 5. Not gonna lie, I only finished these two first because I fell so in love with their designs I couldn't resist sharing them sooner!
Back in the early days of my production bible, I established the Golden School would offer other courses unrelated to guardian angels/devils; both the comic and S2 of the show inspired this concept. I came up with five faculties in total, with a pair of canon teachers at the helm of each. This is how Terence and Scarlett became my Academic Deans of the Tech and Support faculty.
Tech and Support is an engineering faculty: they're the mechanics behind mascots, vehicles like auto-spheres and motor-spikes, and pretty much every piece of angel/devil infrastructure on Earth. I chose Terence and Scarlett specifically because they're the least established teachers we see in canon. Simply put, they were the only teachers with enough wiggle room to fit the bill.
I took a long, hard look at what Terence and Scarlett were supposed to be in the series: the young, hip, hot new teachers in town when they first show up in the movie, the kind that make their younger students swoon and maybe stir some love trouble indirectly with their presence. I could definitely work with that!
Terence's original design looked like the kind of guy who brings an acoustic guitar to a college party, which is a very... 2000s kind of "hot". He needed an upgrade, stat. So I went on a quest and found that hunks are in vogue now, which is fine by me! And so a hunky engineer he became, with a high-visibility coverall, work boots, tool-bags and a helmet. He got to keep some stubble and his long hair (tied up in a ponytail for safety reasons) as a recall to his original design.
Scarlett's original design screams femme fatale, which is great for eye candy but not very practical when handling machinery. So I decided to gear her properly: strong-material overalls and shirt, work boots, welding gloves and safety goggles, protective horn cuffs, short hair and no jewelry (seriously, avoid wearing dangly bits like loose hair or jewelry when you're in a workshop). Properly geared women in STEM are, or so I'm told, pretty hot :v So mission accomplished!
While Terence and Scarlett's role in my rewrite is no longer to act as a romantic wedge between Raf and Sulfus, I ended up giving them shared traits with my Raf and Sulfus redesigns. It has a narrative purpose I won't disclose for now, but if you were wondering why they feel like grown-up genderbent versions of the protagonists, now you know.
Their new colors are pretty much a mash-up of their canon palette and my usual colors for angels and devils. I wanted to subvert expectations a bit however, so I gave Terence a red halo and wings and Scarlett blue horns and wings. They're the same hue as each other's eyes for entirely aesthetic reasons.
Honestly, it's been real fun so far to work on the teachers! I love working on side characters, there's more room to explore in terms of design because there's less expectations surrounding them.

dreamed a whole novel...again. this one truly counts as a nightmare, though
was out & about with all the dream drama that comes with that when I ran into a bunch of old college friends who had all come to NYC for a wedding. started talking & catching up--I didn't know the bride or groom but I knew half the people in attendance. everyone was acting very standoffish and weird but that's kind of not the point, the point is that I started to make my way outside and through this building (it was kind of a mall at first, then a museum, then I wasn't sure where we were at all) with more college friends. we found an exit and looked out side and I remembered that New York was flooding--the water was up to the high balcony we were standing on.
one note is that NYC has actually been flooding recently irl, with more and more dramatic videos of how it's affecting the infrastructure. I tend not to go out if I can help it when we get flash flood warnings because the buses especially become a nightmare (ha ha literally this time) and if you get stranded somewhere, waiting for anything, bus or car or train, upgrades to hellish, standing there in the dark and pouring rain and miles away from home.
anyway.
we kept looking for exits until we found one that had a regular amount of rain, not a rushing sea of water (dream logic), and people started debating getting a cab or taking the train. problem here was that yes, the streets were underwater, but the subway has been just as unpredictable and I barely knew where I was, let alone which trains were less likely to flood.
it was 11 pm, but it was bright daylight outside (I've been way up north where that's normal in the summer, but it doesn't happen in reality at any time of year in this part of the world). I couldn't figure out how I'd stayed out that long when it had only been a couple hours.
they all split a cab and I guess I decided I might as well hop in and risk it, because there I was in the back of this huuuge limo type cab when things got very, very weird.
one of the guys was acting more and more strange, until suddenly he was basically like "you have no idea who I really am" and then shapeshifted into this huge, bizarre creature. his best friend, the guy next to me, said something like "he does this--but it's different every time. it's never the same creature. I have no idea what he really is."
the space was also warped around him, because it became as if we were in a huge dark room, and he started forcing other people into other forms and then controlling what they did. one girl flipped him off and he forced her to contort over and over including bowing to him.
he was zeroing in on different people but for whatever reason just never paid attention to me. I was looking out the window trying to figure out what streets we were passing so I could get a sense of where we even were (I live pretty far uptown and in the back of my head I knew it would be along way to go to get home). it was so dark and rainy that everything seemed blurry, hard to read. every second we got closer and closer to him noticing me and deciding what he wanted to do to me.
but he stayed distracted with the other people. we stopped at an intersection and I decided staying was too risky--while he was still not noticing me, I quietly opened the door and got out, and the car sped off.
for some reason I had left my shoes there. I looked up at the street sign and it very clearly said 35th St. I had no idea what Avenue I was on but I knew I had to walk uptown no matter what. shoes or no shoes.
because at this point I realized the street was filled with enormous, giant people, who looked like regular new yorkers but weren't. they were exactly like whatever that guy was, and they had already taken over the city.
they called themselves "memin" but I didn't know if they were some kind of folklore creature or aliens or what. I think they had a leader but I never found him. all I ever knew was that they were distorting and manipulating the space, and all the real people down on the ground were being tortured and mind controlled.
I couldn't tell what time of day it was and still couldn't read the street numbers. Periodically I had to walk through huge hotel lobbies or malls--those hotels exist downtown but they're not. on the street blocking your path. there's always a sidewalk. always when I went into one it was golden and glowing, like a caricature of a fancy hotel, or like someone's idea of the jazz age. and always when I was inside there was some kind of obstacle I had to pass to get out, and they were always chasing me.
I had to get past regular people who would try to detain me until the creatures got there; or I would see them frozen in time, with these horrible expressions on their faces like they were being forced to pretend it was a good time. it was like they were creating a caricature of what they thought new york should be, for them to play in.
at one point I started floating, up to be able to meet them eye to eye, so they always saw me and I couldn't just go unnoticed on the ground. I wondered if the guy I'd met before had done something to me after all. but they didn't seem to be able to hurt me more, they just noticed me more quickly.
I knew I was in Times Square because the lights were colorful and loud; it was as busy as it always was but it was fake. the people running around on the ground were terrified and the giants were just there, doing whatever they wanted.
there are famous spots in that area but I couldn't identify any of them. I had no shoes and my feet should have been killing me and no one should have let me inside any of these buildings but it didn't seem to matter. at one door the obstacle was that you had to remember certain numbers and then repeat them to open the door, and then there was a small hallway, and then you could go through the outside door (this is not uncommon in certain buildings here). there were two men trapped inside the small area and I tried to hold the door open for them but they couldn't get through. they had gotten the numbers wrong and they couldn't go back to open the first door and look at them. they were just trapped. and all I could do was tell them that I was so so sorry, and keep going.
as I was alternately floating or walking, going uptown as fast as I could, I realized they were talking about me to each other. they had learned my name and were reporting on where I was. but every time they got close I just...got away. at one point I started saying "no! no no no no no no" over and over and every time I said that to one of them they would back off. not get upset, not do anything, they were just stopped trying to get near me and fell back.
so I was trying my hardest to go uptown, saying "no no no no no" to myself over and over, occasionally having to scream it at the stronger ones. every time I noticed I was being followed I would turn around and scream, and at one point I guess I started pointing a red light from my phone (??) like a laser in their eyes, and they would always stop.
most of them looked like normal people but gigantic, but there were some odd creatures along the way. some kind of huge pig crossed with a lion running around on the streets and wrecking havoc; some kind of odd dark blue/purplish slime dripping out of an overhead pipe that if you touched it would have the same effects on you as the giants, but you had to pass under it to get to the exit; you had to time it right to get through, and there were a lot of people who didn't make it out without getting got.
the street signs stopped making sense. it would say 1085 (nyc goes up to 220, and after that you're in the Bronx, where the numbers do continue but only sort of for part of it. I don't think they go past 250). I was looking for any sign of where I was, whether I was further uptown. at one point I had passed 59th/Columbus Circle, which is a landmark, and a point where I could get on the right Avenue without having to cross an Avenue block, but after that it had stopped making any sense. one time it read 330, other times they were in the thousands. like they were trying to keep me specifically confused. like they were mocking me.
as I went uptown, the way they were distorting the city would change, becoming a caricature of that neighborhood's reputation. I knew I was in Washington Heights when became a horrible rendition of the musical, all these crowds of people standing in the street playing music and singing songs that just weren't right. they kept trying to force me to join in and I kept moving past them and trying to figure out where I was.
I guess they decided I was making too much progress because all of a sudden I was entirely in the wrong area, up in one of the parks. I got as oriented as I could and started going back, getting lost in this maze of overlapping parks and neighborhoods, and this was when the flooding came back. the Hudson had swollen so far that it was level with the Fort Tryon cliffs, and the paths were underwater. there were huge staircases where chunks of the stairs were missing and you had to scale walls to get up or down. and there were people wandering around with their dogs, as lost as I was.
but I figured out which way I had to go and I got out of the park and was back on the street.
I got to an area that I knew was my neighborhood, somehow, and I realized or figured out that if I focused hard enough, I was so familiar with the streets and landscape that I could make out what was really there under all the illusions and distortions. and I had to really concentrate as hard as I've ever concentrated in my life, because I also couldn't trust the street numbers or what it said on the doors. I made it up the hill to my house, not followed or anything, and got to the door, which said it was a men's sex shop, and it was next to another hotel. but it was the right area and the only thing wrong with the street was what that all the doors were businesses. I guess they picked one that they thought I would be too embarrassed to go into even if I knew it was wrong.
they were incorrect. I knew it was my building, so who cares? after all this way? and that wouldn't be embarrassing anyway, genuinely no one gives a shit what stores or buildings I go into. all that it indicated to me was that this wasn't over, not until I was in my apartment with the door locked.
I put the key in the lock and it worked, and I went in, where there was a security guard in the lobby checking if everyone that came in was human. they would let me past the second door (which was locked, but in real life is always unlocked) if I could prove it.
(note: my landlord absolutely would not pay for a security guard.)
I asked them if they knew the super (by name) and they had no idea who that was, they just kept saying they had been brought in by the landlord. if that was true they would have known the super's name. but I let them check my ID and ask me a bunch of questions to ostensibly verify my humanity. at one point the lone security guard was joined by someone else who was interrogating me, and that's when I realized that of course he was one of the memin giants and trying to get information on me.
I don't know how I got past him. maybe by yelling at him, maybe by forcing my way to the door, but I do know that I made it inside, finally out of my soaking clothes. my feet didn't hurt in the dream but I was very conscious that they should; that I wouldn't have been able to physically make it that far if I wasn't somehow floating. I was so exhausted; I had no idea if anyone who had stayed inside that day even knew what was happening; if I would have known if I hadn't been out.
I still didn't know what had been done to me, why I could float and why they had such a hard time controlling me or getting into my head. every time they'd tried I'd just shouted at them and refused to believe in the fake world they were trying to impose on me until it stopped. I don't know why it worked or if it worked for anyone else. I was terrified that the first guy had done something to me that would turn me into one of them.
I woke up before I ever got answers.

Brazil’s ban on online health and teaching degrees to begin in August
Distance learning ban will not affect current students; hybrid and in-person formats required for new admissions
Tumblr media
Starting in August, higher education institutions in Brazil will no longer be allowed to enroll new students in distance learning (EAD) programs such as nursing, engineering, education, and teaching degrees, as per new rules under the country’s updated regulatory framework. These programs will now be classified as “phasing out” on the Ministry of Education’s (MEC) official platform. The measure was published on Wednesday (21) in Brazil’s Official Federal Gazette.
Since many institutions are not yet authorized to offer hybrid programs (those combining online and in-person elements), the ministry has introduced a simplified process to obtain approval—applicable to institutions that currently operate online programs. Still, colleges will face challenges, including the need to increase in-person classroom hours, hire additional faculty, and upgrade infrastructure at learning centers.
In the case of nursing programs, no new students will be allowed to enroll in either online or hybrid formats. The degree will be offered exclusively in an in-person format going forward.
“This will increase costs because it requires a great deal of investment. The question is what strategy large education groups and private institutions will adopt, whether to raise tuition or absorb these costs to avoid losing students,” said Jucimara Roelser, a distance education consultant at Hoper.

LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN
May 8, 2024
HEATHER COX RICHARDSON
MAY 09, 2024
Today, in Racine, Wisconsin, President Joe Biden announced that Microsoft is investing $3.3 billion dollars to build a new data center that will help operate one of the most powerful artificial intelligence systems in the world. It is expected to create 2,300 union construction jobs and employ 2,000 permanent workers.
Microsoft has also partnered with Gateway Technical College to train and certify 200 students a year to fill new jobs in data and information technology. In addition, Microsoft is working with nearby high schools to train students for future jobs.
Speaking at Gateway Technical College’s Racine campus, Biden contrasted today’s investment with that made by Trump about the same site in 2018. In that year, Trump went to Wisconsin for the “groundbreaking” of a high-tech campus he claimed would be the “eighth wonder of the world.”
Under Republican governor Scott Walker, Wisconsin legislators approved a $3 billion subsidy and tax incentive package—ten times larger than any similar previous package in the state—to lure the Taiwan-based Foxconn electronics company. Once built, a new $10 billion campus that would focus on building large liquid-crystal display screens would bring 13,000 jobs to the area, they promised.
Foxconn built a number of buildings, but the larger plan never materialized, even after taxpayers had been locked into contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars for upgrading roads, sewer system, electricity, and so on. When voters elected Democrat Tony Evers as governor in 2022, he dropped the tax incentives from $3 billion to $80 million, which depended on the hiring of only 1,454 workers, reflecting the corporation’s current plans. Foxconn dropped its capital investment from $10 billion to $672.8 million.
In November 2023, Microsoft announced it was buying some of the Foxconn properties in Wisconsin.
Today, Biden noted that rather than bringing jobs to Racine, Trump’s policies meant the city lost 1,000 manufacturing jobs during his term. Wisconsin as a whole lost 83,500. “Racine was once a manufacturing boomtown,” Biden recalled, “all the way through the 1960s, powering companies—invented and manufacturing Windex…portable vacuum cleaners, and so much more, and powered by middle-class jobs.
“And then came trickle-down economics [which] cut taxes for the very wealthy and biggest corporations…. We shipped American jobs overseas because labor was cheaper. We slashed public investment in education and innovation. And the result: We hollowed out the middle class. My predecessor and his administration doubled down on that failed trickle-down economics, along with the [trail] of broken promises.”
“But that’s not on my watch,” Biden said. “We’re determined to turn it around.” He noted that thanks to the Democrats’ policies, in the past three years, Racine has added nearly 4,000 jobs—hitting a record low unemployment rate—and Wisconsin as a whole has gained 178,000 new jobs.
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act have fueled “a historic boom in rebuilding our roads and bridges, developing and deploying clean energy, [and] revitalizing American manufacturing,” he said. That investment has attracted $866 billion in private-sector investment across the country, creating hundreds of thousands of jobs “building new semiconductor factories, electric vehicles and battery factories…here in America.”
The Biden administration has been scrupulous about making sure that money from the funds appropriated to rebuild the nation’s infrastructure and manufacturing base has gone to Republican-dominated districts; indeed, Republican-dominated states have gotten the bulk of those investments. “President Biden promised to be the president of all Americans—whether you voted for him or not. And that’s what this agenda is delivering,” White House deputy chief of staff Natalie Quillian told Matt Egan of CNN in February.
But there is, perhaps, a deeper national strategy behind that investment. Political philosophers studying the rise of authoritarianism note that strongmen rise by appealing to a population that has been dispossessed economically or otherwise. By bringing jobs back to those regions that have lost them over the past several decades and promising “the great comeback story all across…the entire country,” as he did today, Biden is striking at that sense of alienation.
“When folks see a new factory being built here in Wisconsin, people going to work making a really good wage in their hometowns, I hope they feel the pride that I feel,” Biden said. “Pride in their hometowns making a comeback. Pride in knowing we can get big things done in America still.”
That approach might be gaining traction. Last Friday, when Trump warned the audience of Fox 2 Detroit television that President’s Biden’s policies would cost jobs in Michigan, local host Roop Raj provided a “reality check,” noting that Michigan gained 24,000 jobs between January 2021, when Biden took office, and May 2023.
At Gateway Technical College, Biden thanked Wisconsin governor Tony Evers and Racine mayor Cory Mason, both Democrats, as well as Microsoft president Brad Smith and AFL-CIO president Liz Schuler.
The picture of Wisconsin state officials working with business and labor leaders, at a public college established in 1911, was an image straight from the Progressive Era, when the state was the birthplace of the so-called Wisconsin Idea. In the earliest years of the twentieth century, when the country reeled under industrial monopolies and labor strikes, Wisconsin governor Robert “Fighting Bob” La Follette and his colleagues advanced the idea that professors, lawmakers, and officials should work together to provide technical expertise to enable the state to mediate a fair relationship between workers and employers.
In his introduction to the 1912 book explaining the Wisconsin Idea, former president Theodore Roosevelt, a Republican, explained that the Wisconsin Idea turned the ideas of reformers into a workable plan, then set out to put those ideas into practice. Roosevelt approvingly quoted economist Simon Patten, who maintained that the world had adequate resources to feed, clothe, and educate everyone, if only people cared to achieve that end. Quoting Patten, Roosevelt wrote: “The real idealist is a pragmatist and an economist. He demands measurable results and reaches them by means made available by economic efficiency. Only in this way is social progress possible.”
Reformers must be able to envision a better future, Roosevelt wrote, but they must also find a way to turn those ideals into reality. That involved careful study and hard work to develop the machinery to achieve their ends.
Roosevelt compared people engaged in progressive reform to “that greatest of all democratic reformers, Abraham Lincoln.” Like Lincoln, he wrote, reformers “will be assailed on the one side by the reactionary, and on the other by that type of bubble reformer who is only anxious to go to extremes, and who always gets angry when he is asked what practical results he can show.” “[T]he true reformer,” Roosevelt wrote, “must study hard and work patiently.”
“It is no easy matter actually to insure, instead of merely talking about, a measurable equality of opportunity for all men,” Roosevelt wrote. “It is no easy matter to make this Republic genuinely an industrial as well as a political democracy. It is no easy matter to secure justice for those who in the past have not received it, and at the same time to see that no injustice is meted out to others in the process. It is no easy matter to keep the balance level and make it evident that we have set our faces like flint against seeing this government turned into either government by a plutocracy, or government by a mob. It is no easy matter to give the public their proper control over corporations and big business, and yet to prevent abuse of that control.”
“All through the Union we need to learn the Wisconsin lesson,” Roosevelt wrote in 1912.
“We’re the United States of America,” President Biden said today, “And there’s nothing beyond our capacity when we work together.”

Renewable Energy - T & SD
One browser search will provide multiple sources with conflicting claims about which U.S. state is leading in the clean energy industry. Two that have made exceptional changes are Texas and South Dakota.
Texas
The Energy Information Administration (EIA) reports that Texas has become a leader in wind energy, accounting for ~16% of the nation’s renewable electricity production in 2023. It’s only behind California in wind production, according to the EIA.
Texas has large expanses of clear land, with a portion of the 360-mile long Gulf Coastal Plains taking up about ⅓ of the state. Wind speeds reach up to 12 mph and transmission lines already span the state to deliver energy produced from the wind farms. This industry, as well as solar, has already supported more than 25,000 jobs in the state, with 73% not requiring a college degree.
Unfortunately, the use of the produced energy is limited. In 2022, the Texas Tribune discussed the fact that the Texas transmission network cannot deliver energy outside of the state. This has caused issues with energy production, storing, and accessibility to consumers.
But there are also distribution issues within the state itself, which in recent years have become apparent multiple times from outages and lack of electricity availability to certain regions. Since a major blackout event in 2021, there have been improvements to make the Texas energy grid more resistant to weather damage. Still, the Austin-American Statesman newspaper emphasizes the need to drastically upgrade the Texas power grid, though they will likely have to fund it without federal help.
South Dakota
South Dakota is also a leader in renewable energy initiatives. The EIA reports that 77% of the state’s electricity production was from renewable sources in 2023. Wind energy makes up 55% of this, while hydropower makes up 21%. South Dakota has slightly less percentage of flat land than Texas, but with wind speeds similarly reaching up to around 12 mph.
In 2022, clean energy jobs accounted for about 12,000 jobs in the state, and that is expected to continue growing. While the South Dakota energy plan is difficult to find, if it exists in solid terms, the federal government is improving policies around renewable energy across the nation.
Additionally, solar energy production is especially expected to increase in South Dakota. This is fortunate because, according to the Clean Grid Alliance, solar prices have dropped 53% since 2012.
South Dakota also produces bioethanol as another renewable product, accounting for 9% of the nation’s production.
Coal, natural gas, and oil now make up less than 20% of the state’s energy production. These will likely take time to completely phase out, as many concerns exist around limiting energy dependency during weather crises. South Dakota has a more reliable electricity infrastructure, but there have been risks of rolling blackouts in recent years.
This page has focused on the progress in New Jersey towards clean energy, but it is far from the most changed state in terms of production. Many other states like Texas and South Dakota have seen benefits of moving towards renewable energy. It has permitted Texas to turn away from natural gas and coal, for example. It has created new jobs, and drawn more attention to the need for improved energy infrastructure.
The move toward renewable energy has been a long fight. It has come with challenges and seen a lot of resistance. Fortunately, it is happening, anyway. The Inflation Reduction Act that provided billions of dollars in tax credits for clean energy initiatives has made a difference. The clean energy goals of the federal government and the states are decreasing our dependence on pollution-producing resources. As much as we hope for swift, effective change, even these spread out changes are measurable and important to recognize.

Asif Ahmad: A Young Entrepreneur from Bihar
Bihar, the state I proudly call home, has long faced significant challenges in key areas such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure. Growing up in Bihar, I personally witnessed the struggles of talented individuals forced to leave their home state in search of better opportunities. This experience became the driving force behind my mission to transform Bihar into a thriving hub where every individual—no matter their background—can achieve their full potential without having to migrate for a better life. Over the years, I have focused on addressing some of Bihar’s most pressing issues: limited access to quality education, a shortage of healthcare services, and the need for sustainable infrastructure.
Education: A Cornerstone for Empowerment
Education has always been at the heart of my vision for Bihar. As a young person here, I saw the immense potential in our youth but recognized the stark gap in access to quality education. Many young people had to leave Bihar to pursue their academic goals, and this migration was a barrier to both personal growth and regional development. After returning to India from my studies abroad, I focused on strengthening local institutions like Madhubani Medical College and the Madhubani Institute of Nursing & Paramedical Sciences. These institutions provide world-class education in Bihar, offering opportunities for local youth to thrive in their home state. By training students locally, particularly in healthcare, we aim to ensure that Bihar retains its brightest minds and creates a sustainable environment for them to contribute meaningfully to the state’s growth.
Healthcare: Making Healthcare Accessible and Affordable
Access to quality healthcare has been another critical issue I’ve worked to address. Growing up in rural Bihar, I saw firsthand how families struggled to access basic medical services. The nearest healthcare facilities were often far away, and the cost of treatment was prohibitive for many. The shortage of trained medical professionals was also a major barrier to care. In 2019, I became deeply involved with Madhubani Medical College, which offers an MBBS program and is attached to a 600-bed hospital providing affordable treatment. With consultation fees as low as Rs 30 and room charges just Rs 150 per day, the hospital aims to make quality healthcare accessible to everyone. But this initiative is about more than just addressing immediate needs; it’s about building a self-sustaining healthcare infrastructure that can serve future generations of Biharis.
Infrastructure: Building the Foundation for Growth
For Bihar to truly prosper, modernization of its infrastructure is essential. This includes building reliable roads, improving transportation networks, and upgrading utilities. As part of Astaus India Pvt Ltd, the company I co-founded, we are working on various infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity, boosting the local economy, and enhancing the quality of life for Bihar’s residents. From eco-friendly construction to sustainable urban planning, we are committed to creating modern infrastructure that supports long-term economic growth and ensures Bihar can compete with more developed regions.
Creating an Ecosystem of Opportunity
Beyond education, healthcare, and infrastructure, my broader vision for Bihar is to foster an environment of opportunity, particularly for its youth. By focusing on entrepreneurship, job creation, and economic empowerment, I want Bihar to become a state where young people don’t feel the need to leave for better opportunities. Supporting local entrepreneurs and small businesses is key to creating a thriving, self-sustaining economy. This will encourage innovation, generate employment, and help the state build an ecosystem that empowers its citizens.
A Broader Mission: Empowering India
While Bihar will always be at the center of my efforts, I also recognize that the challenges of education and healthcare are not unique to this state. That’s why I am also working on initiatives outside Bihar, such as the establishment of Kashmir Medical College, the first private medical college in the region. By addressing disparities in education and healthcare across India, my broader mission is to create an equitable system that benefits all citizens, regardless of where they live.
Looking Ahead: A Brighter Future for Bihar
Looking to the future, I envision a Bihar that thrives—a state where every individual has the opportunity to succeed, where youth can find fulfilling careers at home, and where accessible healthcare and modern infrastructure support the overall well-being of the population. I believe that with the right investments in sustainable development, a focus on innovation, and collaboration across all sectors, Bihar can become a leader in economic and social progress in India. The journey will take time, but with each step, we are laying the foundation for a more prosperous and equitable future. Bihar’s transformation is not just a dream; it is a vision I am committed to making a reality, one initiative at a time.

The truth is that PR is one of the worst-governed islands in the Caribbean. Corruption was rampant even prior to the hurricane. Infrastructure is 3rd world. There are more mayors there than in most states and they are all corrupt. Garbage service is unreliable. Electricity is unreliable. Water is unreliable. I love PR and almost purchased a house there. But it is an older population for as soon as they graduate from HS or college, youth flee stateside. Also, they've had several opportunities upgrade their US status but always failed to win the vote.

Study US CMA in Udaipur: Expert Tips to Choose the Right Classes
Tumblr media
The US Certified Management Accountant (CMA) qualification is one of the most respected global certifications in the field of management accounting and finance. Whether you're a commerce student, working professional, or someone looking to upgrade your finance career, pursuing the US CMA can open up exciting opportunities in India and abroad.
Udaipur, known for its educational excellence and growing academic infrastructure, has now become a strong center for CMA aspirants in Rajasthan. But with multiple options available, how do you choose the right coaching for US CMA in Udaipur?
Here’s a complete guide to help you make an informed decision, with expert tips that ensure your investment in education is truly worth it.
1. Understand What the US CMA Exam Involves
Before choosing any coaching class, it’s crucial to understand the exam structure. The US CMA is divided into two parts:
Part 1: Financial Planning, Performance, and Analytics
Part 2: Strategic Financial Management
Each part tests your analytical, accounting, and decision-making skills. The certification is offered by the IMA (Institute of Management Accountants) and is globally recognized.
2. Check for Certified and Experienced Faculty
A good faculty can make all the difference. Make sure the institute has:
IMA-certified mentors
Industry professionals with real-time experience
A teaching approach aligned with the CMA exam pattern
When searching for US CMA classes in Indore, students should look for coaching centers that offer personalized mentorship, doubt-clearing sessions, and exam-specific strategies.
3. Evaluate Course Structure and Flexibility
A well-structured course is essential to stay on track. While comparing institutes:
Check if the course is aligned with IMA guidelines.
See if the classes are flexible — online, offline, or hybrid.
Look for recorded lectures and mock tests.
This flexibility is especially helpful for working professionals or college students balancing other commitments.
4. Look for Placement and Internship Support
One major reason to pursue the US CMA is better job opportunities. Some coaching centers offer placement assistance, internship programs, and interview preparation. These features are crucial for freshers and early-career professionals.
If you’re considering US CMA classes in Udaipur, look for institutes that are connected with top MNCs, Big 4s, or reputed accounting firms for internships or job placement.
5. Check for Student Reviews and Past Results
Real feedback from past students provides an honest picture of the institute. Before finalizing:
Check Google reviews or testimonials on the website.
Talk to ex-students if possible.
Ask about pass percentages and top scorers.
A coaching institute with a consistent history of results proves their effectiveness and reliability.
6. Ask About Study Material and Mock Tests
The right study material is half the battle won. Ask if the institute provides:
IMA-aligned books and notes
Practice questions for each topic
Full-length mock exams with detailed feedback
Coaching institutes offering US CMA classes in Rajasthan often include mock tests and revision sessions, which help improve time management and exam performance.
7. Compare Fee Structures and Value for Money
High fees don’t always guarantee better coaching. Instead:
Compare fees across 3–4 top coaching centers.
Look at what’s included — materials, doubt sessions, mock tests, etc.
Ask about installment plans or scholarships.
Don’t just go for the cheapest or the most expensive — focus on overall value.
8. Attend a Demo Class Before Enrolling
Almost every reputable coaching center offers demo classes. Use this opportunity to:
Observe the teaching style
Check faculty-student interaction
Gauge how well you understand the concepts
This step will help you avoid choosing the wrong institute and save time and money.
9. Check for IMA Registration and Exam Support
The CMA exam registration can sometimes be confusing. A good coaching institute will assist you with:
IMA registration process
Exam scheduling support
Access to IMA’s learning resources
This adds tremendous value and ensures you don’t miss any key steps during your CMA journey.
10. Choose an Institute That Cares About Your Career Growth
Beyond passing the exam, choose an institute that focuses on your career journey:
Offers soft skills training
Guides you for global job opportunities
Prepares you for interviews and corporate readiness
Institutes offering US CMA classes in Rajasthan often extend their support beyond just classes, which gives you a better edge in the job market.
Conclusion
Choosing the right US CMA coaching institute in Udaipur can shape your entire career in management accounting. Focus on faculty expertise, structured course content, and student support services. Take demo classes, compare reviews, and make sure the coaching provides more than just book knowledge.
With the right guidance, dedication, and a strong institute by your side, you can not only clear the CMA exam but also build a successful global career.
