These special little guys… it’s thought that love tokens originated as early as the 13th century. They are are coins where one side has been smoother down and then hand engraved. Sentimental “messages” could include a lover’s initials or monogram, name, dates, or an image meant to remind or for luck. They were often bent to create a wave to try to prevent it from being used as currency. Each is a little piece of art that tells its own story.

These precioussses are meant for some magical pieces to use in your ritual practice (or to carry or wear because they’re oh so sweet). They combine my love of new and old and I can’t wait to show you how they turn out. The weather is cooling and I’m just ordering a new silver supply so they should be coming along real soon. These little things got me thinking about all such coins and other art that people, including me, could be making instead of having out noses in our phones so much. Thinking of all the lost art possibilities has led me to commit to less screen time and more time to creating and appreciating art. So good in every way – new "photo challenge" theme “SIMPLICITY”… a word which somehow doesn’t suit being in capital letters does it?? So let’s start that again… The #sgiew theme this fortnight (actually, make that three weeks in account of the Easter Holidays) is #sgiew_simplicity – as decided upon by this theme’s guest judge and sponsor @ZoePower. So this wall is downstairs ‘out the back’ of my client’s studio, I see it every time I leave there out of hours, it’s the ‘back entrance’ and I often stop to admire it, and sometimes even take photos of it… and its tin bins. I love how peaceful and ignored this wall is, am I the only one who enjoys its simple decay? There’s just something so GOOD about it, simply (see what I did there?) corrugated iron, brick walls, cobble stones, and guttering… nice though don’t you think?! The only use I have for a shot glass as an ancient 31 year old 😂 . I’m an old lady in a young body: choosing steaming mint tea or creamy hot chocolate over anything harder. Some personal holy grail pieces right here, the latest being “My Marie”, the ultimate signet that reminds me so much of Marie Antoinette’s. Mercifully, this 22k blue enamel and diamond cost way less than the $450,000 hers sold for at Sotheby’s last year. But, just as my heart broke (I couldn’t even win a box at that auction), Kim saved the day with this blue baby girl. The Georgian half hoop is from the 🔥 Cyndi and the pink foiled diamond (zoom in) is from Galina. Tap for tags… But, this post is also a PSA about insurance! Last year, I read a horrible story here on IG about someone getting all their jewels stolen while on vacation. It prompted a call to my insurance company. I rarely travel with much jewelry unless I’m going to event and I never travel with bone/ivory pieces (even from province to province or state to state there are different laws and I’d rather be safe than sorry). I was surprised to find where my jewelry isn’t covered… like Hawaii (my broker said “where there are a lot of honeymooners, there are a lot of thefts”). Those hotel safes in your room closet aren’t actually safe. Maintenance removed all my stuff out of one and left it all at the front desk, and my agent’s husband had his watch stolen right out of his while he was out swimming - the safe was all locked up before he opened it and found all his stuff gone. So, check with your insurance company before you take your sparkly babies on vacation. #themoreyouknow🌈
