How to watch the match, plus latest injury update from James Rodriguez.

Colombia and Japan will continue play for the group stage of the 2018 World Cup on Tuesday. The match is set for 8 a.m. ET in the Mordovia Arena in Saransk, Russia, and you can watch the game on FOX and Telemundo. Online streaming is also available in English through FOX here or in Spanish through Telemundo here.

In Japan’s sixth World Cup appearance, the team will look to midfielder Keisuke Honda for success and a shot at making it to the Round of 16. Colombia won’t be able to rely on James Rodriguez in the opener, as the attacking player was deemed not fit enough to make the starting XI.

This is the first matchup of the group, so both teams are looking for the coveted win to place them at the top of Group H.

Why is James Rodriguez not playing for Colombia?

In the run up to this tournament, the Colombia team was tight lipped about the fitness of James Rodriguez, saying he was battling muscle fatigue. But news leaked out that he was actually trying to recover from a calf strain he suffered in the lead up to the World Cup, and wasn’t able to pass a fitness test nor participate in Colombia’s last training session before the Japan game.

Japan will look to Shinji Kagawa to make stuff happen

New world news from Time: No One Is More Enthusiastic About Japan’s World Cup Victory Than This Emotional Player

Japan kicked off the 2018 World Cup with a stunning 2-1 win against Columbia on Tuesday, at the Mordovia Arena in Saransk. And most of what you need to know about this victory is one star player’s reaction to scoring a goal.

Winning at soccer is one thing, but it helps if someone has a jubilant reaction to go with it. And on Tuesday, that someone was Japan’s forward Yuya Osako. Japan took the lead and held onto if for for dear life in the 72nd minute on the wings of Osako’s header in the chaotic second half. Unfortunately for José Pékerman and the rest of Columbia’s merry band of players, a hand ball turned into a penalty kick forced Columbia to play with only 10 men.

But that’s their loss and Japan’s win.

Because thankfully, blessedly, photographers were on hand to capture Osako celebrating a goal with midfielder Gaku Shibasaki during the match. And at that precise moment, the pure joy in his eyes embodied the whole world’s ecstasy. His leaps through the air are the song in everyone’s heart.

This result marks Japan’s sixth straight World Cup. Suffice it to say that this guy was pumped.

This means that Columbia has some work to do, and lets Poland and Senegal know they’re the country to beat. See him celebrate below.
