In the third episode of season 2 we got hints that the arcane and Hextech conflict each other. The wild rune found in that Hextech thingy underground caused everything fueled by a hex crystal to go haywire. Viktor was part hexcore before jayce even tried to save him due to his experiments and the fact that his blood mixed with it. Jinx's missile was fueled by a hex crystal, so maybe that's why V got so hurt?

I'm not sure bc the whole thing seems very suspicious. We've gotten hints that Ambessa doesn't like magic and in the mel coldopen we saw that as a kid she didn't have the gold brace. I'm assuming it breaks after the missile bc we don't see her wearing it in S2. If it truly is magic, why not admit it? Jayce literally questions why Viktor got hurt when he was right next to jayce and mel doesn't answer nor does she show guilt. If jayce being alive is somehow Mel's doing, why not just say it? Idk seems very weird and suspicious to me I want to know more.

Mel's protection should have saved Viktor too, and she's trying to figure out why it didn't

S2 ep1 shows a circle of protected stone where Mel and Jayce were during the explosion. My theory is that Mel's magic armor activated and saved them both. It seems like it casts a sphere of protection around wherever Mel is.

The center of this circle is not Mel's seat - it's Jayce's. She ran to Jayce to save him.

No other Councilors were in range of Mel's protection, so they all got hurt or killed.

But Viktor was, Jayce's words, "right next to" him. He was easily within Mel's circle of protection.

1) Viktor tried to run and mistakenly left the circle of protection. But are we meant to believe that Viktor, close to dying already and using a crutch, would have outrun Mel?

2) Viktor's augmented body clashes with Mel's

Why does Mel try to touch Viktor in episode 1? It seems like a throwaway moment, but not even Jayce touches him in this scene. So why Mel?

She's curious. And possibly, feeling responsible. She's wondering why her protection didn't work.

Is this Hexcore brand of the Arcane trying to reach out to Mel? Or trying to defend itself from her?

Mel was trying to protect both Jayce and Viktor, which is reflected in how she holds Jayce as well as Viktor's cane when she promises to protect Hextech:

But if, for example, Mel's magic is Solari in origin, and Viktor's is from the Void - or the Arcane equivalent of similar opposing forces - then it's possible that their magic rejects or hurts one another. So Mel's circle of protection either rejected Viktor, or was what hurt Viktor, and not the explosion.

“What the hell?” Jack is three steps past the end of the aisle of crates in the largest room they’ve come to yet. He turns back to Mac with a worried look on his face, putting his hand to his neck and rubbing at the spot where he was injected. “I feel fine, I swear, but I think I’m hallucinating.”

The back of Mac’s neck is tingling even though the room they’ve moved into sounds deserted, and his shoulders are tight with tension. He’s pretty sure the serious case of paranoia he’s developing is from the drugs, and if Jack’s starting to hallucinate, they're going to be in real trouble.

He’s already checked behind them a couple times, but he can’t help doing it again before he creeps closer to Jack, using the line of crates along his left for support as he limps along. “Why? What’s wrong?”

“Take a look, homie, and tell me what you see.” Jack spreads his arms wide. He’s speaking too loudly, and his gesture is far too enthusiastic considering they’re trying not to draw any attention to themselves. “Do you see like five hundred balloons?”
