I can’t believe this co op apt. in the Bronx, New York. It looks like a Victorian museum, but you can see how narrow this room is. Frankly, I’m so sick of white apts. and homes, and that’s all I see. But, this is amazing- look at the ceiling.

I’m amazed- I can’t believe what they did to this apt. You can tell by the door that it was just an old co op. And, it sold for only $325,000. 

In classic pre-war form, the home opens into an entry foyer, off which are two convenient closets and lovely built-in bookshelves.

Intricate crown moldings and custom, handcrafted ceramic tiles jumpstart the opulent interior. The sunken living room has enough space for two sitting areas. Elaborate coffered ceilings meet the hand painted floral wallpaper, one wall of which is covered with floor-to-ceiling mirrors with copper frames.

Across from the living room, the dining room serves double duty as an elegant tea room.

Through here is the kitchen. It’s petite, but it has plenty of character thanks to brick tiles and fully-functioning vintage furnishings.

In the master bathroom, there are imported Turkish Iznik tiles on the walls and floors, bordered by Carrara marble tiles.

The master bedroom takes on a lighter feel, with white tin ceilings and moldings. The wallpaper is the Dalston Rose print from House of Hackney, a popular British company that interprets traditional designs.

The showstopper, however, are the closet doors, adorned with Eastlake carvings. They are from an 1884 butler pantry.

As you can see in the master, all the apartment’s radiators have received custom wrought iron and bronze cases with white marble tops.

The guest bathroom is a work of art in its own right. A replica of Jean-Honore Fragonard’s painting “The Bolt” takes up the entire wall; the owners even had to receive permission from the Louvre in Paris to have it recreated! A clawfoot tub and moody wood-paneled walls complete the look.

Interior Design Ideas: New Home Inspiration

  Hello, my wonderful friends! How are you today? I am truly happy to start slowing down this week and start my kids’ back-to-school shopping. Doing it for three kids isn’t an easy task, but I will try to have some fun. Now, let’s focus on this new “Interior Design Ideas”.

Built by Timber Trails Development Company and with interiors by the talented Julie Howard (previously featured here – a must-see post!), here, here, here, here, here & here), this beautiful home is an east coast inspired home located in Western Springs, a suburb about 20 miles outside of Chicago. The home’s exterior commands attention with it’s stately tower topped with X details on the windows. Inside the tower is a three story floating staircase that has a marvelous view of the chandelier above. When you enter the front door, a long hallway lined with mercury glass lanterns leads you to the open concept kitchen and family room where a built-in banquette steals the show because of its leaded glass windows.

Interior Design Ideas: Tailored Interiors

  Certain homes are made to be carefully admired and I feel this newly-built family home is one of them.

According to the interior designer, Traci Connell of Traci Connell Interiors, this project was completed for a tight-knit family in the heart of Dallas, TX. They desired a home  that looked lush and glamorous yet would be livable when their large, sports fanatic family came over to throw a watch party. The clients were looking for the perfect home to call their own and found this beautiful spec home that met all their needs. They then hired the designer to furnish the entire home from top to bottom.

In contrast to the couple’s previous Olde World red and gold embellished home in Frisco, Texas, the clients were searching for a light filled soft modern feel which they found in this high end spec home.

The paneled refrigerator (on right) features 4 freezer drawers. What a dream!

This property is in the Old Northside neighborhood, a historic district with many elegant homes, less than two miles northwest of downtown. The builder came from a lumber family, and this house displays a rich variety of woods, including cherry, mahogany and oak. At one point, it was the clubhouse for a fraternal order. On the second floor are four bedrooms with attached bathrooms, including a master with walk-in closets on either side of a decorative fireplace, a changing room and a bathroom with twin marble-topped vanities, a soaking tub and a multispray slate shower. There is also a large laundry room with black-and-white Moroccan-style wall tile that matches the kitchen’s backsplash.

The third floor has two additional bedrooms with hardwood floors and dormers, and a family room or game room.

The original carriage house was expanded several years ago to include a five-car garage at the base. One of the bays is extra high for the storage of a camper or boat. The second floor contains a two-bedroom apartment with a living room that has a gas fireplace, a corner kitchen with stainless steel appliances and an elegant bathroom.

Outdoor space: The house has a fenced front lawn, a curving front porch and a large rear deck with a trellis roof, an outdoor kitchen and a firepit.

A 1997 conversion created this three-level unit in a building on the North Park Blocks in the city’s Pearl District. The Willamette River, Union Station and Powell’s City of Books are within blocks of the condominium. The area is filled with restaurants, high-end doughnut shops, breweries, art galleries, boutiques and theaters.

Size: 2,050 square feet

Indoors: Elizabeth Raftopoulos, a fashion and interior designer, created the look of this fourth-through-sixth-floor unit. You enter a large loft room with wide-board French white-oak floors and a nook with coat hooks and storage under a metal staircase. Off to the side is a bead-board-paneled half bathroom with a marble-and-brass sink.

The open kitchen has custom dark-navy cabinets and an island with an Italian marble waterfall countertop. A living area is at the end of the room, with Restoration Hardware glass-globed pendant lights, near a wall of casement windows.

The bedroom opens to a bathroom with a walk-in shower with black-granite tile and a marble-topped vanity.

The en suite Italian marble bathroom includes built-in storage, a double vanity and a walk-in shower with controls and showerheads mounted on opposite walls. An interior steel-framed glass wall next to the Victoria & Albert Barcelona bathtub admits light from the bedroom windows and offers treetop views. This level also has a laundry room with a stacked washer and dryer and a granite-topped cabinet.

Craftsman Beach House

  Hello, my friends! I hope you had a great week and are ready to have a relaxing weekend with your loved ones.

I am really happy to be sharing another beautiful home by Sweenor Builders, Inc.. You will probably recall seeing their Coastal Shingle Home recently featured on Home Bunch. Today, I will be featuring their latest work with This Old House® and I think you will love knowing every detail!

“Every year, This Old House® collaborates with a team of industry professionals and leading home-improvement brands to build a state-of-the art “Idea House.” Sweenor Builders was honored to be asked to build an Idea House for a second time in partnership with Union Studio Architecture and Community Design. The fourth annual Idea House from the trusted home renovation brand, the 2018 home will be built in the historic seaside village of Narragansett, Rhode Island – recently named one of America’s best beach towns by the Boston Globe. Kristen Martone, Sweenor’s in-house designer and owner of Graceke Design led Interior Design on the project.”

  Interior Design Ideas: Craftsman Beach House

The 2,700-square-foot cottage has classic Craftsman-style curb appeal and modern looks inside. Located less than a mile from Narragansett’s town beach, it epitomizes what buyers are looking for today: a smaller home that lives large in a tight-knit neighborhood, plenty of bespoke built-ins, luxury amenities including a home gym, dedicated media room and butler’s pantry, and an easy-care backyard designed for “staycation” living.

This classic foyer features herringbone White Oak hardwood flooring with a black walnut perimeter. Wall paint color is Glidden’s Swan White.

You really don’t need much space to have a well-designed laundry room. This laundry room was tucked into a small corner of the house where stackable washer and dryer, a hanging rod and even an utility sink with Soapstone countertop creates the ideal space to wash clothing.

Mudroom

How fun it is to see a home with color! This mudroom features shiplap, which was installed with a nickel gap. To add some contrast, the builder painted the mudroom cubbies and trim a in a deep green. Paint color is Glidden’s Royal Hunter Green.

This project earned a Gold Award when the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) recognized best-in-class projects at the 2018 Best in American Living

Dream Backyard

Outside, you’ll find a soothing soak pool, a sunny patio, and a complete kitchen for dining alfresco.

Accodiring to This Old House, this 7×13-foot pre-cast plunge pool was delivered in one piece, dropped into a 4-foot hole, and then faced with stone veneer and a bluestone ledge.

Interior Design Ideas: Tailored Interiors

  Certain homes are made to be carefully admired and I feel this newly-built family home is one of them.

According to the interior designer, Traci Connell of Traci Connell Interiors, this project was completed for a tight-knit family in the heart of Dallas, TX. They desired a home  that looked lush and glamorous yet would be livable when their large, sports fanatic family came over to throw a watch party. The clients were looking for the perfect home to call their own and found this beautiful spec home that met all their needs. They then hired the designer to furnish the entire home from top to bottom.

This kitchen is full of inspiring ideas, from its light grey cabinets to the large black metal windows.

The paneled refrigerator (on right) features 4 freezer drawers. What a dream!

Interior Design Ideas: Nantucket Shingle Style Home

  If you’ve read my blog for a few years, you probably will know that I love classic homes and this Nantucket shingle home built by Orren Pickell Building Group is a home that is sure to not go out of style anytime soon.

Here, the builder share the insights of this beautifully designed home: “Honoring their East Coast roots and incorporating a cozy farmhouse feel guided the design of this gracious shingle home.

After scouring the area for land that would offer the right combination of privacy and views, the family selected this wooded, ten-acre parcel. The Pickell team positioned the home at the high point, making sure to maximize the expansive vistas on all sides.

Architectural details such as a cupola and shingled exterior provide the Nantucket aesthetic the family wanted, while the interior has the warm, lived-in feel they desired. The chicken coop, supplying fresh eggs every morning, fits right in.

Broad pine planks, rough-hewn beams in the dining room and reclaimed timbers in the family room add to the farmhouse character and complement the family’s rustic American antiques. However, custom cabinetry and an open first-floor plan make the home eminently livable today.

An eat-in kitchen, formal dining room and living room flow easily from one to another, creating an ideal space for entertaining. In addition, the first floor features an expansive master suite with indoor and outdoor showers, office space, and a large mudroom centered around a vintage workbench.

The lower level is home to an antique bar the owners found in a shop in Indiana, as well as a gym and a soccer practice area (complete with reinforced drywall to prevent damage). Three more bedrooms complete the layout upstairs.

Throughout the interior, warm colors, extensive wood, natural light and comfortable furnishings make the 5,000 home feel friendly and intimate, just as the family dreamed of.”

This Nantucket shingle style home features white cedar shake siding stained gray and an asphalt shingle roof.

Cedar Shake

This shingle home features white cedar shake siding stained gray and an asphalt shingle roof. Carpenter-built cupola features a standing seam copper roof.

Foyer

The front doors open to a traditional foyer. The front door is a pair of 36″ x 96″ x 2 1/4″ DSA Master Crafted Door with 3-point locking mechanism, (6) divided lites, and (1) raised panel at lower part of the doors in knotty alder.

How gorgeous is this flooring? It’s definitely a classic choice. The floors are Carlisle Solid 11″ Eastern White Pine with a Sturbridge Brown Matte Finish.

The staircase was custom designed and it features open end swell step with 7″ custom starting newel post, . 1-1/4″ painted balusters, Poplar handrail stained in a dark brown color. The staircase treads are Southern yellow pine with a custom carpet runner.

Dining Room

This dining takes your breath away! Reclaimed hand hewn barn beams are used for the ridge beam in the vaulted dining room ceiling while floor-to-ceiling windows and French doors frame the country view.

A black/grey built-in cabinetry display wall provides room for books and art. A similar paint color would be Graphite by Benjamin Moore.

The 11″ white pine flooring is used throughout the entire first floor.

The 11″ white pine flooring is used throughout the entire first floor.

Interior Design Ideas: Fairbanks Ranch

  Who’s ready to take a little break from farmhouses?

I love modern farmhouses especially, but I am happy to feature a healthy diversity of architecture and interior design styles on Home Bunch. I have always done this because I am a stronger believer in that we need to see many different homes to find out what really works for us and for our home.

Designed by one of my favorite interior designers, AGK Design Studio (recently featured here & here), this custom home located in Fairbanks Ranch, CA., will be a feast for your eyes!
