Fluff to die for...this Eurytides Leucaspis butterfly has the fanciest of fur coats.
This large butterfly (10cm in width) was a little trickier to pin than most smaller specimens. It had to spend an extra 24 hours in the hydration chamber to make it supple enough to move without breaking and those forewings are surprisingly strong. It's always a risky business leaving specimens in the hydration chamber because the longer they are left, the more chance there is of mould developing.
The Eurytides Leucaspis can be found flying wild in many parts of South America and belongs to the Papilionidae family, exhibiting the forked tail that is common among this group.
