I was waiting for an opening as I saw you had match ups available and would love to see who you'd put me with.
Preference for male characters from Hazbin Hotel
About me: You can call me Claire. I'm AFAB she/her, 5'3", panromantic demisexual. I'm Tim Burton pale, brown eyes, messy curly bob brown hair, glasses with glasses chains usually, chubby but strong, dress either romantic gothic feminine or butch cryptidcore, like no in between, never wear make up because sensory hell.
Some type of neurodivergent but not diagnosed specifically. I tend to know a little about a lot of things due to jumping from focus to focus. Queen of Dad jokes, rather blunt since I'm not subtle. Aside from English can speak Latin, some Gaelic, some Spanish, a little bit of Turkish/Arabic, Church Greek and Slavonic, and random phrases in Russian, German, and Italian. I'm ENFP, Ares cabin from PJO if that means anything.
I teach preschool, love children as they're so fun to be around and the possibilities they have ahead are wonderful. I also bake, sew, knit, read tons of books, collect rocks and other nature stuff, tend to the gardens, I sing in my choir, and like to listen to music. Not specific music genres that I care for, more vibes, but been into some Bauhaus lately, along with SJ Tucker and The Dead South.
My faith is important to me, I even am considering pursuing becoming a religious sister at a convent, like a nun.
I do love horror, romantic gothic poetry (Think Poe and the like), analog horror(DOAI, Mandela Catalogue), Dr. Who, bad b movies (think Redletter media level bad), animation in general, HB HH, stuff like that, I read everything and anything so long as the narrative is interesting or the subject is a hyperfixation of mine, such as Religions, Mythology, History relating to late Medieval to Elizabethan, textiles, fantasy, or speculative biology (like thought potato on youtube). I also do dress in character for the Renaissance Festival, people assume I work there as I have season passes for the last 5 years and attend all weekends from open to close.
I tend to be a sweet tooth, love any chocolate, baked goods with richness or chocolate flavors, drink lots of coffee, tea, sweet red wines, mead, rum based cocktails or dark malty beers if we're going alcohol, though I tend to be the driver if I'm going to party somewhere. My giving love language is touch and words, along with acts of service. My receiving love language is words, touch, and gift giving. I love to cook or make gifts for others, usually don't expect it in turn.
I'm loud, maternal, weirdly dark yet wholesome, and able to lift a toilet with my bare hands up two flights of stairs. I tend to talk either like a southern grandma or terminally online weirdo with random swears. When friends have a bad breakup I'm like do you want a hug or does someone have to die?
In relationships I can be very talkative, but also in a sense the less dominant partner. Like, I handle the day to day, but not great at organizing the dates, the stuff like that's more romantic. I'd hope my partner could handle that part. I'm also romantically easily flustered. Like squeaking and burning red in the face from genuine good flirting.
So hope you can find someone right for me, God Bless you dear.
hello claire!! i decided to pair your with…
Lucifer !!
First of, he loves your love of kids, and let’s be real, he probably has a love of kids as well, as much as Charlie is an adult, he would probably eagerly introduce you to her after finding out this tidbit of info
Honestly, to him, you give off very strong, emotional support wifey vibes and honestly he is all in for it haha
Lucifer doesn’t mind that you can be very talkative, infact, he enjoys it.
He tries to make it fairly easy when it comes to planning dates for you, so most of the time, you both just stay in
Also, Luci is definitely someone who gets flustered easily, so you both just end up giddy and smiley at eachothers shy little flirty comments and it’s the most heart warming thing

Worshipping With Limited Space/Materials/Time/Etc.
One of my close friends has been asking me how to worship deities with limited space/privacy/materials/etc, so here it is. A guide on worshipping without space.
See @catnip-reed for my religious blog if you want.
Altars
There are many ways to have a small/discreet altar. Some people (including me) even make them online.
Travel Altars: a small altar (usually in a small box or tin can) made for traveling; usually includes a tealight candle, crystals, herbs, coins, and photos.
Discreet Altars: a collection of objects that doesn’t look like an altar but functions as one; usually includes decorations, colors, etc. that don’t directly point to it being an altar but still hold symbols of the deity (i.e. coquette decor for Aphrodite, cat-focused decor for Bastet, etc.)
Candles: literally just a candle; used to focus energy, sometimes contains herbs or crystals inside
Shoebox Altars: a shoebox filled with permanent offerings, statues or photos, candles, and other things commonly placed on an altar; usually stored away until needed
A Binder: a binder filled with art, poems, prayers, information, etc; can also be a notebook or deity journal (see my post about deity journals here)
Bags: bags or satchels of things related to the deity (i.e. coins, herbs, photos, etc.); can be emptied to set up a temporary altar or held when praying/offering/etc.
Books: a collection of books devoted to them; can be books related to their domains or books that remind you of them; used as an offering (reading) or communication (annotation)
Temporary Altars: altars that can be set up and taken down with ease; most commonly includes a small offering plate, a small cup, and sometimes candles, statues, or photos
Photos: a photo collage online or physical containing photos of the Gods and/or their domains; my favorite way to display these is as phone/computer backgrounds or on bulletin boards (similar to a vision board)
Pinterest: pinterest boards; a collage of pins of the Gods, their domains, and things that remind you of them
Tumblr: tumblr sideblogs; reblogging or posting things like quotes, photos, ideas, etc. that remind you of them
All in all, altars really are just a way for you to focus on your deity. In some religions, altars are a designated space for offerings. Depending on how you view them, you can make anything into an altar.
Divination
Some people like to use communication methods like tarot, runes, etc. to talk with their deities. For those who can’t openly own/use them or can’t afford them, here are some alternatives.
Lenormand Cards Website
Labyrinthos Tarot App
The Fool’s Dog Tarot App
Golden Thread Tarot App
The Classic 1910 Tarot App
A List of Oracle Card Apps
Cartomancy: using playing cards to divine
Astragalomancy: using dice to divine
Coins: flipping a coin to get a yes/no answer; there are other coin divination methods but many are closed
Bibliomancy: using books to divine; either a book falls on a specific page and you choose a random sentence or you choose a book, flip to a random page, and find a random sentence
Aeromancy: using weather to divine
Pyromancy: using flames from a candle/bonfire/etc. to divine
Capnomancy: using smoke to divine
Offerings
Offerings! One of my favorite things about my worship. Offerings are basically bribes so that your deities like you more /s. But seriously, offerings bring you closer to your deity.
Water: a simple cup of water; can be drank or left out for them
Food: either portions of your meal or food made for them; can be eaten or left out for them
Other Drinks: cups of other drinks; can be drank or left out for them; most commonly milk, alcohol, coffee, or tea
Candles & Incense: candles or incense devoted to them; can be lit or just kept in honor of them
Flowers: bouquets or single flowers; can be bought from stores or found outside (i.e. dandelions)
Honey: doesn’t have to be ethically sourced; can be added to teas and other drinks
Art: your own art or the art of others; includes music, playlists, digital art, poetry, drawings, paintings, instruments, etc.
Coins: many deities enjoy coins as offerings; can be offered to wealth/luck deities or can be offered to a deity because of the image (i.e. a coin with a sun on it can be offered to Apollon)
Devotional Acts
The only thing I love more than offerings. Also used to get closer to deities. Offerings of actions instead of physical things.
Donating: donating to organizations related to your deity (i.e. health organizations for Apollon)
Volunteering: volunteering at places related to your deity (i.e. dog shelters for Ares)
Practicing Good Hygiene: showering, washing your face, brushing your teeth and/or hair, etc.
Self-Care: ritual baths, face masks, relaxing, doing a hobby, etc; anything that makes you happy can be dedicated to a deity
Going Outside: taking a walk or sitting outside; some people make outside altars for some nature deities
Sunbathing/Cloudwatching/Starwatching: sunbathing for deities associated with the sun, cloudwatching for deities associated with the sky/weather, and starwatching for deities associated with the night/stars/planets; if the deity does not have a domain in one of these do whichever makes you happy
Cleaning: keeping your space and any altar/religious space you have clean and free of dust
Research: learning new things about your deity
Browsing Social Media: browsing a tag/account/etc. dedicated to your deity
Sharing: telling people about your deity
Learning Language: learning the language of your pantheon (i.e. greek for hellenism, italian for roman polytheism, etc.)
Conclusion
You do not need big, elaborate altars to worship. You do not need scheduled offerings, or even any offerings at all. You do not need to use tarot or runes to communicate with your deities. The only requirements for worshipping a deity is wanting to worship them and stating that you are worshipping them. To build from there, you begin building a relationship with them. Offerings and altars may help you do that, but they are not required. The Gods will understand if you do not have the space/time/materials/etc. to worship them how you would like or how others do. The Gods will understand if you do not want an elaborate practice. They will understand.

As for weird hcs... What would you say for Cathy?
What weird headcanons do I have about Cathy? See answers down below!
What they smell like: Cathy wears a perfume that's cotton candy scented
How they sleep (sleeping position, schedule, etc.): Cathy loves staying up as late as possible, but like her grandfather, she is not a morning person and needs a cup of coffee at breakfast so that she won't be grumpy all day. When she does go to bed, she has a white noise machine to help her fall asleep and prefers lying on her back with a sleep mask over her eyes to block out any light from her computers and equipment
What music they enjoy: Techno and pop
How much time they spend getting ready every morning: Cathy takes about 45 minutes to get ready. She might not wear a lot of extravagant clothes or complicated makeup, but she takes pride in styling her vibrant pink hair just right and doing some quick dye touch-ups with a special spray-on hair dye if required
Their favourite thing to collect: Weird and retro technology
Left or right-handed: Ambidextrous
Religion (if any): Agnostic
Favourite sport: Paintball
Favourite touristy thing to do when travelling (museums, local food, sightseeing, etc.): Attending local plays, concerts, and other types of performances
Favourite kind of weather: Rainy days because she can use them as an excuse to stay indoors and play video games with Alex and their online friends
A weird/obscure fear they have: Blackouts. None of her technology works, and the power surges could damage her equipment!
The carnival/arcade game they always win without fail: Frogger
Thanks for the request!

Hi there lovely! Here’s my information for the Sons of Anarchy Ship/Match-up
Features: I’m a female, standing at 5’6, I possess long light brown hair with a tint of redness in the sunlight. My hazel eyes change each day from green/brown to brown/gold. I have the sun and moon tattoos on my thighs, a shark up my side torso on my ribs, half an arm sleeve and a neck tattoo revealing my zodiac sign – Gemini (which I often hide) I’m slender with curves.
Hobbies: I am a workaholic; it becomes my hobby at times. I work in the funeral home, removing the deceased from the POD. I enjoy my free time spent with my dogs, my fierce Doberman and my lovable, motivating exercise collie partner. I enjoy reading all things Stephen King and James Patterson and playing any horror related video games. You guessed it, I’m a strong advocate for the horror genre, and Freddy Krueger will always have my heart. I watch SOA and SPN religiously whenever I tilly tally around the house.
Personality: Often seen as an outgoing, happy go lucky, eccentric lady (This is from first judgement from people I know) When really, I’m rather introverted and possess way too dark humour. I collect knives, different types ranging from a replica of the SPN demon blade, to a jungle machete. These are all encases in a glass shelf, only used for display. I love to make others laugh, and I’m incredibly loyal to those I care for. I don’t practice religion (I support others who do) as the only thing I believe in, is the reaper.
Aesthetics: Not sure if this is a term but my house is very much cabin like. Wooden beams, brown features, brown clocks with black accents. I love this kind of theme, heavily decorated with green plants and fish tanks.
Likes: Lover of being at home, with my man and the dogs. Also a lover of all things spooky. I enjoy long hot showers with my candles lit in the shower itself, It’s so peaceful. I love to read, whether it be books in my hand or online. Sadly, I am a smoker, so my time alone on my patio having a cig is therapeutic to me. I adore time spent with my little family or my close friends whether it be going to the pub for a beer or shopping at Walmart for new bedding 😊 Coffee is my best friend.
Dislikes: My biggest dislike in this world, is seeing animals mistreated. I am that person that buys the near dead betta fish at the pet store and brings it home to treat and watch thrive. I dislike SNAKES. They just scare me, but don’t wish any ill will on them. Hypocrites are my triggers, can’t stand someone who preaches to the choir about wrong doings when they’re actively just as guilty. Own your shit is my motto.
Brief fun facts about me!
Used to train canines for search work, in areas such as narcotics and explosives. My closest friend is my grandma. I love to wear black. My go to perfume is good girl. I play COD often – I’m competitive in nature. I wear the SONS rings as I got them custom made, and it’s my favourite accessory!
I put way too much into this post, but hopefully it’ll help lots with finding my best ship! Thanks for taking the time to do this 😊
Want one? Here be the rules 🦋🌈
You LITERALLY sound like a character from Supernatural?!?! Are you sure you aren't Bobby's long-lost daughter or something?
Also being a canine trainer?! Um... are you the coolest person in the goddamn world? I think so.
𝑫𝒆𝒔𝒄𝒓𝒊𝒑𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏
𝑰 𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝑶𝒑𝒊𝒆 𝑾𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒏! I think you guys would be such a perfect match. In a way, you remind me of a cool-ass version of Donna? You seem very strong - emotionally, mentally and physically. Opie is a quiet guy, very loyal and genuine. You don't have to worry about him being manipulative or having underlying motives. He practically wears his heart on his sleeve but does his best not to show it.
𝑯𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒄𝒂𝒏𝒐𝒏𝒔
・You’d both be very level-headed and know you can trust the other. Opie is incredibly loyal, and if you showed to him the same loyalty, then nothing could come between you.
・I think Opie would put on a brave face to watch horror movies, and he finds some scenes funny. Although he gets tight-lipped when there’s a lot of gore (feels a bit guilty?)
・He’d actually like one of your favourite horror movies, and love getting themed gifts from you
・Opie would love staying at home with you - you two would move in together and make your home a paradise. You both have a similar aesthetic. Cabin, rustic, and cosy, Opie would absolutely adore your dogs.
・I think you would fit in with the club very easily. Gemma would be wary of you at first, but realise you aren't someone that's easily pushed around. You would definitely grow on her without realising it.

============================================================================================
There is no point in the only pinpointing the problem, so like to suggest "Do & Dont’s" for survival to Indian IT industry, else it will be in history.
1.Salary should be decided on how much work worth does not work experience. % its eliminate salary difference between same profile people. 2.Do not restrict educational criteria limited to engineering or IT courses. % there is no concrete relation between programming and engineering. 3.There is a need to be a library which contains domain and technology specific books and materials. % it will help to update current industry scene and skills and books are more enjoying than e-books. 4.Free food should be everyone and tea vending machines are in good and high-quality % you can deduct the amount from the initial offer because free things make us happier than money. 5.Do not allow any type of celebration and distribution of sweets and Prasad on the job floor. % it will help to maintain the working environment and also suppress religious presentation. 6.There is a standard formal dress code for employees which will offer by the company logo. % it will help to reduce glamorization of IT industry and minimize distraction and style competition. 7.There is a need to be put firewall restrictions for filtering all religious, political and news websites. % it will increase work efficiency because folks stop reading and thinking about news material. 8.There is a need to stop performance incentive or salary variable components. % there is no scientific method for calculating performance, its only depend on managers mind and mood. 9.There is a need to remove all card swap machines and restricted entries except main entrance. % We need to trust our employees and at last, they are mill workers, not hackers. 10.There is a need to stop training, sports, and gathering. % It is not training institute or college campus and we hire folks only for work, not for workout. 11.There is a need to be 100% employee participation in CSR activities. % This will teach them that beyond IT campus, malls, theaters etc there is the big and bitter world is present.
Note: This is meant for entertainment purposes only and I do not intend to hurt the sentiments of any individual, community, sector or religion. This is a work of satire and any resemblance to any person living or dead is purely coincidental.

The TA - two. (h.c., c.e.)
Summary: everything about this situation is...weird.
Pairings: Professor!Chris Evans x Black!Reader, student!Henry Cavill x Black!Reader
WARNINGS: none
here’s part two! she’s a bit lengthy, fyi. enjoy! :)
UNEDITED
After a couple of days, she’d gotten used to the formality that is Professor Chris Evans (and company). She’d gotten used to the emails that open with, “I hope this message finds you well”, even though it rarely did.
So thanks, Chris, for the well-wishes but no thank you.
The first day of Fall classes was stressful, to say the least. She woke up later than she intended for her 8 a.m. class, then she got lost on her trip from one lecture hall to another, and by the time she had to get to Franklin for Chris’ class, she was practically running across campus. She burst into the lecture hall two minutes before class was set to begin. Walking to the main podium where Chris stood preparing for that day’s lecture, she breathed out, “Sorry I’m late.”
He turned to her with a smirk. “You okay?”
“Yeah, yeah. I’m fine. Just a bit of a rough day is all.” She waved him off, completely ignoring the loud slam of the lecture hall’s doors. A figure emerged next to her holding a tray of coffees from The Bistro.
“Good morning!” Henry greeted, clearly having a better day than she was. He offered Chris a cup, then set the tray down on the desk that sat adjacent to the presenter’s podium, taking the other two and offering one to her. She thanked him quietly. “You ready?” he asked Chris.
Chris laughed. And for the first time, she laughed along with him. And seeing it firsthand, she could tell they had a good relationship by the way they interacted. She could tell that Chris genuinely enjoys Henry’s company as his TA, and not just for the things that he does to be helpful—they have a good thing. “Yeah, I’m ready—I’m excited. Thank you for the coffee, by the way.”
“No problem. It was on my way here.”
She felt out of place as they engaged in banter.
She looked around the steadily filling classroom and saw students from all walks of life; she’ll admit, that’s one of the only perks of college in her mind—there was always someone for everyone. There are all kinds of people from different races, religions, creeds—all gathering to pursue higher education. In that respect, she found college to be interesting. But in any other regard, she hated it.
Henry took note of her silence, “Are you excited, (Y/N)?”
She turned to him sharply, not having anticipated him addressing her so suddenly. She nodded curtly, “Yep.”
“You don’t sound like it.” Chris retorted as he set up his laptop to broadcast a slideshow on the projector screens that took up nearly all of the space on the wall behind them. “C’mon, this is going to be fun!”
She offered them a dry chuckle as she watched the screens illuminate with a bright white background and black lettering that read:
WELCOME TO CHEMISTRY 120, SECTION D346-0
PROFESSOR CHRIS EVANS, D. SC.
HENRY CAVILL AND (Y/N) (Y/L/N), GRADUATE AND UNDERGRADUATE TAs
Yeah, that’s totally not intimidating. “Ooh,” Henry nudged her with his elbow, “look at that—you’re official.” He turned to her, pointing an index finger at the screens. “Listen, this is going to be no big deal.”
“You sound like him.” She pointed to Chris, who was hooking up a small microphone that he would connect to his shirt.
“Well I mean it. You’ll be fine. The most we’re going to have to do is pass out papers and introduce ourselves—easy peasy.”
She hummed in understanding. “Mhm.” She took a big gulp from her coffee cup, its liquid now only warm from Henry’s commute. “I’ll believe it when I see it.”
Henry shrugged, “I’ll hold you to that.”
“Good morning, class.” Chris spoke into the microphone, his voice projecting through the speakers in the room. The chatter among students died down quickly. “I’m Professor Evans and welcome to Chemistry 120, section D346-0.” She noticed that he was like her—he fidgeted, too. His hands were behind his back, but she could see him fiddling with the remote that was in them. One hand was wrapped around his opposite wrist, and his free hand twirled the remote between his fingers.
“I’d like for my TAs to introduce themselves. They’ll be helping you a lot this semester.”
He took a handheld microphone from behind the podium and turned it on, handing it to Henry. “I’m Henry, I’m a graduate TA studying microbiology.” He stated with a muted wave. “I’ve been working with Professor Evans for about four semesters now, so I’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have.” He handed the microphone to her, his thumb brushing hers when she took it. Their eyes met briefly.
“Hi, I’m (Y/N). I’m an undergraduate student studying bio. This is my first semester as a TA for this class so I’m very excited to work with all of you.” There. That was easy enough. Henry looked to her with a small smile.
“Alright,” Chris spoke up after she handed him the microphone to be put away, “so I’ll be quick with the introductory stuff—I know no-one wants to hear me drone on about safety procedures for the next ninety minutes.” He gestured to a stack of papers that sat on the desk. “Could you pass those out?” he asked Henry and (Y/N) politely.
Henry nodded, effortlessly picking up the large stack of papers. He approached her and instructed in a whisper, “Take half.” She grabbed a substantial stack of papers, making her way across half of the lecture hall and handing students a sheet of paper going by rows, mimicking the movements that Henry made. They both made it to the middle; there they stood on a walkway that connected to the path that led to the front of the room. He followed behind her back to the podium as they awaited their next tasks.
“So, what you just got are information forms. We’re going to read them, go over the most important stuff, then at the end, you’ll sign them, and they’ll be collected.” Chris cleared his throat, beginning to read from the page, only really emphasizing the important aspects of the course.
She took a page off the stack, reading as he spoke.
COURSE POLICIES:
No food/drink/snacks in the lecture hall or lab (water in a clear container is allowed)
No electronics of any kind are allowed in the lab
Late work will not be accepted in any capacity
All paper assignments must be turned in at the end of each class to TAs
Online work must be submitted before deadline—pages will close after the assigned time
Attendance (especially on lab days) is mandatory
All absences are considered unexcused unless otherwise authorized with a note or confirmation e-mail
Now it’s all come full circle for her. She can clearly see why a lot of his previous students called him a hard ass. And majority of the policies he listed, she doesn’t even plan to uphold herself. So how could she expect three-hundred students—freshmen, at that—to comply?
The policies were reasonable, sure, but hard to enforce.
He made sure to emphasize the dress code, late work, and attendance policies; it was apparent that those were real issues among his classes over the years. “Additionally,” he continued after having spoken without stopping for twenty minutes, “this is the only introductory chemistry class I’m teaching this semester, which means everything you submit will be read and graded. There are no grades for completion or participation.”
She heard several students groan. She leaned to Henry, “Wait. He teaches other classes?” she whispered.
He nodded. “Yeah,” he whispered back, “He also teaches upper-level biology and organic chemistry, and he taught a statistics class last year but I’m not sure if he still does.”
Damn. No wonder he was so organized.
And she found that interesting; that definitely explained why he would have her and Henry do a lot of the grading for this class’ assignments. He probably didn’t have time to breathe in between classes, let alone grade three-hundred lab reports.
By the end of his class that seemed never-ending, she was absolutely exhausted. She was having daydreams of her cozy bed when Henry approached her after he finished collecting signed forms from his side of the classroom. “You alright?” Henry asked.
She stifled a yawn, “Yeah, I’m good.”
“Good class today, guys. I’m really excited for this semester.” Chris gushed, visibly happy with their help.
“Me, too.” Replied Henry. “I think this batch will be better than last semester’s.”
“Ugh. Don’t even get me started on last semester’s class.” He shook his head as he began to gather papers and his laptop into his bag. “I’ve never wanted to rip my hair out more than I did last semester.”
Henry laughed. “Trust me, I know.”
The two assistants prepared themselves to leave. Before they said their “goodbyes”, Chris asked them to meet with him in his office (as there was another class filing in).
“So,” Chris closed the door to his office, muffling the bustle of the room outside that was quickly filling up with the literature class that started right after theirs. “I wanted to know what you’ll be doing this weekend.”
“Um…” (Y/N) was confused. “Why?”
“Because I want to get a head start on grading these papers and entering everyone’s information into the database.” He pulled the stack of forms from his bag and clamped them together with a binder clip. “So, if you and Henry are free this weekend, that’d really help me out.”
“I’m not busy,” Henry shrugged. “I keep my weekends open anyway.”
She wasn’t busy either, but the weekend to work? This couldn’t wait until later?
“I’ll be free this weekend.” She kept her voice cheery but really regretted not lying when she had the chance.
“Great.” He clapped his hands together. “We’ll plan for a time for you to come over and we’ll knock it out in an hour or two.” Come over?
“Come over where?” she asked.
“Oh! My house.” Chris clarified, “When Henry and I had a lot of papers to grade, he usually comes over to my place early in the morning, we grade papers, and we go about our day. That’s not an issue for you, is it?”
“No, not at all.” It was a bit odd, though. But she’ll be honest in saying that she found all of this…odd in one way or another.
“Cool.” Henry looked at his watch. “I’ve got to get going, I don’t want to miss tonight’s game.”
Chris’ eyes widened in realization. “Dammit.” He swore, “I forgot there was a game on tonight.” He stood and grabbed his things, going around his desk to the door, and ushering us out of his office. He shut and locked the door behind them. They walked swiftly and quietly across the front of the classroom and out the door to converse in the hallway. “Alright, you guys. Have a great rest of your day, and don’t hesitate to call me if you need me.” He waved, then turned and left through the faculty doors.
Henry looked at her. “You ready?”
She nodded. “Yeah.” Together, they walked leisurely down the stairs and out of the lecture hall, through the hustle of the “afternoon class rush”.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” he asked for what seemed like the thousandth time today. “You’re quiet.”
“Do you think…” she paused, wanting to pick the right words to say. “do you think it’s—I don’t know—odd that Chris wants us to meet at his house to grade papers?”
“What would make you think that?”
“I don’t know, it just seems weird to me.” Someone who was on their phone bumped into her causing her to drop the books she was carrying. “Shit.” She went to grab her book, but Henry picked it up for her. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” He opened the doors to the lecture hall, where they looked outside and saw that it was pouring. “Wow, it’s really comin’ down out there.”
“Yeah, and I didn’t bring an umbrella.” She groaned out loud. “Fuck my life.”
Henry laughed at her misery, “You need a ride?”
“Your car’s fixed?”
“Yeah.” He fumbled in his pocket for his car keys. “I took it to the shop after our meeting. Obviously I had to call a tow truck before I could get it to the mechanic’s, but I got it there eventually. It’s doing great now in case you were wondering—it almost runs perfectly.”
“I wasn’t.” she gave him a thin-lipped smile. “Thanks for the information, though.”
“Whatever.” He scoffed playfully. “You want a ride or not?”
She really shouldn’t. This guy, as holy as he is in the eye of the Almighty Chris, could be a monster. He could be a serial killer. He could be plotting to attack her—she’d lost count of how many news stories she’s read about kidnappings on college campuses—and who knows, she could be on his list.
But then again, it was pouring outside, and the walk back to her apartment was long. The air was getting cooler and combined with the darkness of the sky and the time of day, she’d end up with the flu by the end of the afternoon.
“Fine.”
He took his jacket from his shoulders and handed it to her. “Here.”
“What am I supposed to do with this?”
“Put it on.”
“I don’t want it.”
“You need it more than me, okay? So put the jacket on.” He commanded.
She didn’t like that he didn’t ask nicely, but she did it anyway. And she wouldn’t tell him out loud, but goodness, his jacket smelled good. Like every kind of good smell that someone would want on a man combined with the smell of men’s shampoo in the hood, she was in heaven. She tried not to let it show but she made sure to take deep inhales through her nose as they journeyed to his car.
They exited the lecture hall, running down the slippery cobblestone sidewalk like the rest of the students in their avoidance of getting wet from the impending storm. He guided her to his car, opening the door for her, then climbed in the driver’s seat. “Whew,” he breathed, buckling his seatbelt. “that was interesting.”
His car was quite nice. She’d expected it to be really junky and out of shape—because of the godforsaken breakdown—but it was surprisingly clean and smelled good, too. Not in a cologne way, but in a “detailed car” way.
“Yeah, it was.” She replied, also trying to catch her breath from running, “You have a nice car.”
“Thank you. I was trying to tell you that earlier, but you didn’t want to believe me.”
“No, I didn’t.” she laughed. “You proved me wrong.”
He revved the engine. “So, where to?”
“Brookwood Heights.”
“Shut up.” He all but exclaimed, his eyes widening to the size of Mars. “I live there!”
Oh, that’s great.
“Really? That’s so cool.”
“Yeah, that’s so funny!” he pulled out of the parking lot, turning onto the busy street. “What a small world.”
They managed to get to their apartment complex without issue. He helped her get all her belongings out of the car, then grabbed his and locked his car before they went inside, the cool air of the complex’s lobby almost smacking them in the face. They trudged to the elevator, entering the small box and leaning against the guardrails in exhaustion. She pressed the 3 on the keypad. “What floor?”
Not looking up from his phone, he mumbled, “3.”
Are you kidding me?
“That’s my floor.”
His head snapped up. “So, we’re floormates, huh?” he smirked.
“I guess so.”
The elevator dinged and they stepped out. It seemed like they were deliberately walking slowly down the hall so that they could see where the other person would drop off, but they just kept walking side-by-side until they got to the very end of the hall. She stopped in front of her door. “Well, this is me.”
He stood at the door across the hall from hers and pointed at the number, “This is me.”
So, they’re neighbors.
They’re co-workers…and now they’re neighbors.
Because of course, life can’t get any more cliché than it already is.
“See you around?” he called to her once he unlocked his front door.
“Yeah, see you around.” She waved with a small smile, opening her front door and stepping into her abode.
Damn, she missed her apartment today. She tossed her keys in the bowl by the door and took off her wet shoes. Then she set her bag on the adjacent counter. She shuffled off her jacket—
Wait.
This wasn’t her jacket. She didn’t wear a jacket today. It was Henry’s jacket.
She wanted to yell. She didn’t feel like being social anymore today. She decided to set the jacket on the coat rack by the front door; that way she’ll be able to bring it to him in the morning. She went to her bedroom and stripped from her wet clothes, going into the restroom and starting a shower.
Finally.
*
The following days were surprisingly good. She didn’t gripe and moan about the weather—it was rainy every morning that week—Henry rapped on her front door at the same time and offered to drive her to Franklin Hall. Some days, she accepted, and they even stopped at The Bistro if they had the time. Some days she didn’t, and those were the days where Henry seemed more on edge, only to visibly settle when he saw her enter the classroom or laboratory.
Today was Saturday; today was the day that she had to meet at Chris’ house to grade the lab reports from Tuesday and Thursday’s classes.
She wasn’t particularly excited about it.
She had to get up early because Chris wanted to get started at nine a.m., which was ungodly early for a Saturday—or any day, really.
Three knocks sounded sharply on her front door, “You ready?” Henry’s voice bellowed through the wood.
She rushed, opening the front door. “Almost.” She shuffled on a hoodie over her t-shirt, stepping aside. “Come in.”
He entered wordlessly and sat on the first chair he saw, which just so happened to have his jacket laying across the back. “So, I’m assuming this is yours now?”
She looked at the item he was holding. “Shit!” she exclaimed. “I meant to give that back. I’m sorry.”
He chuckled at her demeanor, “It’s fine. It’s bad out today, so I don’t mind if you need it.”
“I should be fine, thank you,” she forced her feet into a pair of sneakers, fighting to get her index finger from between the shoe’s fabric and the heel of her foot. “plus, I don’t want to hog your stuff.”
“You’re not hogging anything. If you need it, wear it.”
“But it’s yours.” She threw on her backpack, grabbing her keys, phone and wallet from the bowl by the front door. “Take it.”
“No.” he laid it back in its original position on the chair. “Give it back once the storm passes, okay? I’m just looking out for you.”
She rolled her eyes, but it made her smile anyway, “Fine. Thank you.” She opened the front door and practically shoving him out of her apartment and down the hall.
“You’re welcome.”
She’s not sure what’s happening. She’s started to like Henry’s company. Her goal when everything started was to remain polite and formal, and now…she thinks of him as a friend—which was not her plan.
They rode in a comfortable silence to Chris’ house. He could tell she was stressed. “Are you okay?”
“I guess.” Her shoulders shrugged, the fabric of her hoodie rubbing against her seatbelt. “I still think going to Chris’ house to grade papers is weird.”
“Nah,” he retorted, “it’s really casual. He makes a pot of coffee, and he even made me breakfast once. It doesn’t usually take long either—in and out.”
“So, I have nothing to be worried about?” she asked, their eyes meeting when he stopped at a red light. “This isn’t a setup for the two of you murder me, right?”
“If I wanted to murder you, I’ve had ample opportunities before today to do so.”
As if that’s reassuring.
“Thanks for sparing my life, I guess.” She muttered.
“Seriously, though. Don’t worry. Everything will be fine. And if you get uncomfortable, I’ll say my apartment flooded and we’ll leave. Okay?”
She snorted, “Flooded?”
“Flooded. On fire. Intruder. My cat died. I’ll make something up.” He turned into a neighborhood of houses, pulling into a driveway behind a blue SUV, and shifting the car’s gear into “park”. “Say the word and we’ll leave, no questions asked.”
She nodded. She felt the slightest bit better about the situation. She didn’t really know if it was because he was so willing to drive her home, or if it was because he was so willing to drive her home just to keep her comfortable. Nonetheless, she appreciated it. “Okay.”
He reached behind him and pulled his shoulder bag from behind her seat. “And then, when we’re done, we can go to The Bistro and load up on cookies.”
“Their cookies are good…”
“Easily the best cookies I’ve had in a while. So, don’t do this because we’re required to, do this for the incentive of sugar.” He looked at her. “Lots and lots of sugar.”
They got out of his car with their bags and trudged up the driveway’s pavement, him following behind her to the front door. He emerged next to her and rang the doorbell.
Chris opened the door with a smile, “Hey.”
Not to mention, he wasn’t dressed like a professor at all. He was wearing grey sweatpants along with a cobalt blue zip-up jacket that was opened, showing off the white tank top he had on underneath.
And let’s not forget about the cross necklace—a minor addition, but still very important to the outfit.
“Good morning!” Henry cheered.
“Morning.” She greeted timidly.
Henry allowed her to step into the threshold of Chris’ home first. He entered, too, commenting, “Ooh. It smells good in here.”
“You caught me while I was making myself some pancakes—are you guys hungry?”
“I could eat.” Replied Henry as he plopped himself onto the couch in the front room, setting his bag on the coffee table before he sat down.
Chris looked to her, “Pancakes?” he asked simply with a point.
“Sure.” She shuffled off her backpack and sat next to Henry on the opposite end of the couch. “Let’s get this over with.” She muttered to herself. She unpacked her bag and set her laptop on the coffee table.
Not a few moments later, the two of them heard Chris shout from the kitchen, “Pancakes!”
Henry hopped up from his seat. He held out his hand in front of her, “C’mon.”
She took it and allowed him to pull her up…his hands were soft. Calloused at the knuckles, but soft, nonetheless. She almost hesitated to let go. But she did, regrettably. She followed him into the kitchen and took a plate from the stack on the counter next to the stove. Henry wasted no time in stacking his plate high with pancakes, scrambled eggs, and bacon, drowning everything in sticky maple syrup.
She, however, was a bundle of nerves, so she didn’t grab much—only two pancakes and two strips of bacon for herself. Henry balanced his plate, a handful of silverware, and a cup of coffee in his muscular arms and walked carefully back to the living room.
“You sure that’s all you want?” Chris asked, pointing to her plate as he poured the hot coffee from the carafe and into a large mug. “There’s plenty to go around.”
She shook her head politely, “I think I’m good for now.” She took a mug from the counter and held it out to him. “Could you pour me some, please?”
“Of course.” He poured the coffee into her mug a bit more than halfway. He offered her milk from the refrigerator, and she took it, pouring into her mug leisurely. He watched her and said almost in a mumble, “So…how are you liking things?”
“What things?” she replied.
“The position. The class itself—hell, your classes. How are you getting on?”
“Good, I suppose.” She shrugged. “I like the job a lot, and working with you guys. My classes are hard this semester—I don’t know what it is, but for some reason, Calculus seems so much more difficult than I remember.”
“Who do you have for that class?” he took a long sip from his mug, leaning his back comfortably against the countertop. “Mackie?”
“Yeah.” She nodded. “He assigns so much work, I can barely keep up. And his class is in Jackson Hall—on the other side of campus—so I basically have to run to his class in order to get there on time if Henry doesn’t drive me.”
“Henry drives you to class?”
Out of all she said, that’s what he clung to?
“Yeah, most days. Apparently, we’re neighbors in the same complex, and he has a class in Jackson at the same time as mine. I don’t have a car and he does, so it just made sense.”
Chris hummed. “Well, I’m good friends with Mackie; he and I were actually roommates in undergrad. So if you need me to, I can put in a word.”
“A word?” she repeated.
“Yeah. Your studies are important, but so is your job. So if you need to be excused from his class every now and again, or you need help catching up, I can help you.”
“Oh.” She pondered for a moment. She needed this job, yes, but not so much that she feels the need to fall behind on her schoolwork to keep Chris company. “Well, I think I’m fine for now, but thank you for the offer.”
“Sure. Anything to help.” He patted a hand on her shoulder, squeezing her flesh, then left the kitchen.
She sat back on the couch next to Henry and timidly ate her breakfast while he and Chris engaged in conversation about the upcoming events in the area.
We do shoulder rubs now? She asked in her brain. He seemed almost…flirty? And when I mentioned Henry driving me to class, he visibly almost tensed. What was that about?
“Yeah, I think it’s a great idea for the two of you to go.”
That’s when she started to pay attention. “Go to what?”
“There are student tutoring sessions in Hampton Hall for all undergraduate classes. Generally, I don’t make my students attend because there aren’t any undergraduate TAs in my class. But now, you’re here, so my class is on the roster.” Then, he muttered, “And Henry can take you.”
She nodded, taking her planner out of her bag. “When are they?”
“Thursdays at three. I’ve been told that they usually run about an hour, so it won’t take up all your afternoon. Then, you and Henry can do…whatever.”
Henry raised an eyebrow, eyes glancing to her, then back to Chris.
That was strange.
She didn’t question it. She was eager to finish grading her set of papers so that she could shove Henry out the door, get their cookies—that he suggested, and thus, will pay for—and head home to sleep the rest of her day away.
It took them a total of two hours to finish grading that week’s lab reports and put them into Chris’ online gradebook, and put the students’ information into a spreadsheet. After they cleared their trash and put their plates and silverware into the kitchen sink, she all but threw her belongings into her backpack. Henry put his bag over his shoulder, bushing a piece of hair behind his ear. “Well,” Henry began, taking his car keys from his front pocket and twirling the keychain around his index finger. “we should get going.”
“Sure. I don’t want to keep the two of you busy.” Chris replied as he ushered his two assistants to the front door, his tone not displaying any care for taking up the early part of their afternoon. “Have a great weekend, guys. See you Monday.”
They left and walked quietly side-by-side to Henry’s car. He backed out of the driveway and sped out of the neighborhood and down the street. “That wasn’t so bad, was it?” he asked her.
“I guess.”
“You guess?” he repeated, “What makes you unsure?”
She almost hesitated to mention it. But there was no logical way Henry didn’t pick up on Chris’ comments throughout their time there. “Chris was just acting weird, is all.”
“Define weird.”
“He kept saying things about you and me carpooling, and he even offered to excuse me from my Calc class with Mackie.” She suddenly found her fingers much more interesting to look at than the road in front of them. “And he touched my shoulder. He squeezed my shoulder, actually.”
“You think he was acting out of the ordinary…because he touched your shoulder?”
“No! Well, yes, but he seemed upset when I told him that you and I carpool, and that’s what caught me off guard.”
Henry shrugged. “Maybe he doesn’t think it’s professional.”
“If he didn’t think it was professional, he would’ve said so, instead of making snide comments.”
He parked the car in front of The Bistro, then turned it off and turned to her. “Maybe he doesn’t like us hanging out.”
Hanging out? Is that what he called it?
The two of them got out of the car and walked into the cold coffee shop, standing in line behind the last patron. “I don’t know,” she said lowly so as to not disturb the other customers with their conversation. “I just think that it doesn’t make sense for him to be so…intrusive.”
He looked at her. “Do you want me to say something?”
“No!” she exclaimed. “If it’s not what I think it is, he may get offended.”
“I don’t think he will.” It was soon their turn to order. “Six chocolate chip cookies, please.” He pulled out his wallet and paid for their snacks in cash, then moved to the other side of the counter to pick them up. He handed them to her, “Here.”
“Thank you.”
The two sat at a table—a similar table to the one they first sat at together, but this one was by the floor-to-ceiling windows. He opened the parchment bag the cookies were in and handed her one. “I will say,” he started with his mouth full, “he seemed off today.”
“See? I knew it—”
“But that doesn’t mean he’s being gross, alright? Everyone has an off-day every now and then.”
The two sat in silence after that. He watched students and professors alike walk past The Bistro, some of them entering the café to enjoy pastries and coffee like they were. He began to bounce his leg on the ball of his foot; something, she noticed, that he couldn’t help but do when he was deep in thought. Either that, or sitting cross-legged and wiggling his foot back and forth.
He cannot sit still. Neither can she usually—but it’s apparent that since she’s met him, he made her feel more comfortable…safe, even. She doesn’t pick at her fingers nearly as much.
“Does he make you uncomfortable?” he asked her after a few moments of them silently people-watching. “Are you uncomfortable around him?”
“Not really.” She replied, not knowing exactly how she felt about Chris. She was intrigued by him, yes; she found him attractive, certainly; but she still didn’t know him. And because of that, she seemed to be more on edge when speaking to him. Henry wasn’t anything like that.
“A part of me just has a feeling that he’s coming onto me.”
He coughed, almost choking on his lemonade. “Like, romantically?”
“Yeah. That’s what it seems like.”
He hummed in response. He got up and threw away his trash and hers, offering a hand to help her stand. They soon left The Bistro. He opened the car door for her, then pulled out of the parking lot.
The atmosphere shifted. She knew that there was some form of attraction towards him from her, but was it reciprocated? She didn’t know, but judging by the way his eyebrows were persistent in their angry furrowing, there was something wrong with what she said at the restaurant.
They eventually got back to their complex. He didn’t say a word to her on their trek from the lot to their hallway. “G’night.” He said simply, unlocking his front door and shutting it behind him.

Do you consider yourself a nature person?
No, definitely not.
What kind of collection would you like to start?
I really shouldn’t get more of anything I have waaaaay to much stuff already and not enough space. I got rid of some stuff a few months ago and it’s still too much. There’s more I’d definitely like to get… cute things at so many different places all the time I can’t help it lol. At least my bank account will be happy during all this right now. Sigh.
What helps you take your mind off your problems?
It’s especially hard doing that here at the hospital, but I try as much as I can by doing my normal things like surveys, social media, YouTube, reading, lots of TV, and visits with my fam. I’ve watched a lot of new shows with my mom and brother. I wish I could sleep more.
Who do you miss, if anyone?
My family, even though I see my fam all the time, thankfully, I still miss them and then they have to leave when visiting hours are over and I just want to be back home with them. I miss some family I haven’t seen in so long. I miss my sweet goofy doggo, Princess Leia, who I last saw over a month ago now. I miss my grandma and grandpa who passed sway. I miss myself from several years ago who now looking back was way too hard on themselves and would do things differently to avoid what would come down the road when things were really bad. My complaining back then seems so ridiculous now. Not everything, I mean it was what I was going through at the time and it was real for me then, it’s just looking back I’m like wow you could have chilled on some of it, you’re fine.
What do you miss, if anything?
Doing my Bible studies, my family (includes my doggo) and being home, food, coffee, the beach… I just wish it wasn’t my current situation. I miss that.
Do you prefer to live alone or live in a family?
With my family for sure.
What states have you visited, that you remember?
Arizona, Idaho, and Georgia. And other places in my own home state, California.
What countries have you visited?
Just Mexico.
What countries do you want to visit?
Sooooo many.
What states would you most like to visit?
Several as well.
What are five careers you’ve considered?
Teacher, counselor, social worker, psychologist… that’s it.
Do you use a sunlamp when it’s cloudy?
No.
What’s your latest discovery?
I’ve had a lot of time to think and reflect here and yeah I’m realizing quite a bit let’s just say.
What do you wish your hair looked like?
I miss when it was long and red.
Which family member has your exact smile?
Not exact, but I’d say my dad.
Do you still feel anything for the first person you fell in love with?
Nope.
What’s one thing you’re behind on?
Being an adult. <<<
Who was the last person you called?
My mom.
Do you take pictures on your phone?
Yeah. That’s the only way I take photos.
How old were you the first time you loved school?
I enjoyed elementary school.
How old were you the first time you encountered God?
As a kid both sets of grandparents, of different religions, discussed it with me and took me to some of their church services. As I got older, I had no interest and didn’t believe. However, for the past 5/6 years now I’ve been building my relationship with God and studying the Bible and I’m a Christian.
Have you ever hallucinated?
Yes.
Do you clean your place often?
I tried to just keep up with it and now let it get messy, but then with my health stuff and no energy or motivation things got a little cluttered and disorganized. I managed to still do a lot of online shopping ha and acquired more stuff and not having the room.
Do you struggle to get by?
Yes.
What color is your wristwatch?
I don’t have one.
If you had a girl and a boy, what would you name them?
I don’t want kids.
Who is the best looking male celebrity, in your opinion?
Alexander Skarsgard of course.
Do you still miss a friend who betrayed you?
No.
How many subscribers do you have on YouTube?
A few, which I don’t know why cause I don’t upload videos.
If you’d like to share, what is your screenname on Instagram?
Nah.
Do you use Snapchat?
Very, very rarely. Snapchat died I feel like. At least it did for me awhile ago.
Do you enjoy typing?
Yeah. Definitely over handwriting.
Are you a fast texter?
No but on the computer I am.
Would you rather text or call?
Text.
Do you know anyone who has everything handed to them?
Yes.
Would you ever want to be a famous youtuber?
Nahhh. I have absolutely zero interest in that.
Do you know anyone who’s colorblind?
Not that I know of, but *shrug*

trivia:
― he’s played all kind of games and his twitch channel was created 9 years ago (whew) and it currently has over 5 million subscribers. currently, he streams mostly genshin impact, valorant, league of legends, overwatch, spider-man: miles morales, cyberpunk 2077 and the witcher iii. every now and then he makes charity streams. he also makes special lives with other gamers and figures where they play games like among us, minecraft, fortnite (though he absolutely hates it), party animals, fall guys and other party games. ― despite the rumours around him and his parents, he’s never talked about them to the media. it’s not like chance hides the information, after all it’s online, but he swerves questions about them and pretty much decides to not say anything about them just to avoid controversy. his parents didn’t mind until last year the company they worked at offered him a sponsorship and yohan turned it down. it’s safe to say they were pretty hurt over this and they haven’t talked much recently. ― yohan is, in his words, the biggest fan of spiderman (not really) but he’s his favorite heroe of all times and he collects everything and anything that has him in it. his biggest collection is funko pops with over 30+ figurines. he collects funkos of various other interests of him as well as enamel pins. ― lowkey a weeb. he likes watching anime in his spare time and if he likes it too much, he’d buy the manga and read it as well. his latest obsessions are kimetsu no yaiba, boku no hero academia, haikyu and jujutsu kaisen. ― won’t ever admit this out loud, but almost every ghibli movie makes him cry his eyes out, even when he’s watched the same one over and over again. he prefers to watch these on his own. his favorite one is grave of the fireflies. ― it took him a while to get used to korean culture, a part of him is still trying to. luckily, his family would speak in korean in their household most of the time and this helped him not struggle as much when it came to the language. his streams are most of the time in english to cater to a bigger audience, but recently he’s got himself a small team of an editor and a translator that’s helped him add subtitles to the videos he uploads in youtube. ― his current setup is completely sponsored except for a few extra things he’s bought himself and he has minimal experience when it comes to builds, though he’s really interested in learning and has recently researched more about the whole topic, hoping to get his first custom build by the end of the year. ― has terrible road rage and this is the reason why he doesn’t own a car or a driving license, even being in the backseat makes him anxious and would much rather prefer to use the bus, a bike or his skateboard to commute between places. taxis and other rides are his last option, if he’s quite honest. ― as a neighbour, he’s polite and tries to be mindful just to avoid needless problems. the first thing he did was soundproof his office in order to not disrupt others, but sometimes this doesn’t work as well due to how loud he can be. chance will try to greet every neighbour he encounters either with a wave or a simple nod. ― loves dogs but doesn’t feel he’s responsible enough to take care of one yet, though he will certainly volunteer to pet-sit his friends’ dogs.
wanted connections:
― life in seoul: he’s been wanting to start a podcast that has nothing to do with his main channel, aka a podcast about the culture in seoul from different perspectives, he wants to know about other people’s experiences. can be people that have lived all their life here or foreigners that, like himself, are pretty much new or can’t get enough of the city. it’d be a pretty chill podcast and anyone can participate! ― people that know about him and lowkey follow his streams (or just play them in the background while doing other stuff) ― or people that know about him but dislike him because he’s said stuff before about other public figures you’re a fan of. or he just simply rubs you the wrong way. ― people who absolutely hates when he streams late at night and he’s full on screaming at the screen (he tried to soundproof his streaming room but someone he can be way too loud, sorry) ― he’s always up for a good collaboration regardless of the topic: food, art, random tags and challenges. even if it's not up to his alley, he's likely to always say yes just for the laughs. ― the group of friends yohan met in different ways. they're not all strictly gamers, streamers or anything of the sort, but whenever they get together to play some games, it's a total chaos. and he wouldn't change it at all. ― the one person that always gets his packages delivered by mistake to your place instead of his. or the other way around. ― more: friends, enemies, a penpal, a platonic soulmate, workout buddies, etc.

Wellness Segments from The Friend Zone Podcast
This is where I’ll be listing Fran’s Wellness Segments. It will be updated regularly. Any specific products/stores mentioned will be linked :)
Ep. 1: It’s Ok to Log Off
Being the first episode, Fran starts us off easy with a loving suggestion to take a social media break. At the time of this recording, “Twitterless Assante” was reaping the benefits of taking mindless twitter scrolling out of his life for some time.
Ep. 2: Family Matters
This is where we start digging in and doing the work. Here, Fran asks us to look within to resolve family disputes that have gone unchecked. Have the talks that you have been avoiding, even if it feels uncomfortable. Remember to come from a place of compassion when approaching loved ones, and to not take anything personally. Which is a theme throughout many of the early episodes, as it’s the 2nd agreement in The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz, one of the many books Fran has suggested.
Ep. 3: Take 5
Work on building and maintaining a healthy morning routine. This helps set the tone of the day. By leaving our phone out of this part of the day, we can avoid things like waking up to a long, angry text or some other drama and letting that guide how the rest of day goes. Basically, set the tone of your day before taking in information from anyone else.
Ep. 4: Surrender
Meditate, meditate, meditate.
Osho books are great for learning more about quieting the mind, as recommended by Fran. Sadhguru is another great teacher who I look to for insight on meditation, mindfulness, parenting, and just life in general. He has a channel on YouTube with tons of videos. Fran also recommends trying Mala beads to assist with meditation, or maybe journaling afterwards. She really just stresses the importance of beginning a meditation practice, without fear of doing it “right” or “wrong”.
Ep. 5: Even Martha Went to Jail
No clear-cut Wellness Segment for this week, but the main gist of things was: create what you want, what feels good for you. Critics will appear for everyone, no matter how great they are, so do you. Don’t keep yourself from creating things because of fear of how others will receive it.
Ep. 6: Tacos & Quickweave
In your journal, dissect the relationship you are in. Asking questions like, “Why are you with this person? Who are you *really* doing this relationship for?” For singles, ask questions like, “What am I *really* looking for, in a person? How do I want to feel when I’m with them? How do I want to show up in their lives? How do I want them to show up in my life?” For those resistant to relationships, ask yourself why and really work through it to get those answers that you seek. ~meditate, meditate, meditate ~
Ep. 7: The Choir & The Competition Are Out
Parents: Sit with our children and start asking them questions about their interests. Fran shares how she was impacted by her mom not being more encouraging about her becoming a singer, so she wants us to know how important it is to truly listen when our kids ask to pursue new things, even if it isn’t exactly what we pictured for them.
For everyone, even those who don’t have children or maybe they aren’t quite at the age to start discussing these things: we were all a child at some point. Many people can benefit from asking ourselves if the profession we are in is for you, or if you were just trying to please our own parents. It’s never too late to begin learning more about anything that excites you.
Ep. 8: Fitness Regine Hunter
(I’m pretty sure they purposely didn’t spell it “regime” because of the difficulty for many in pronouncing the word. lmao)
In this episode, Fran speaks on the importance of holistic health and wellbeing, sharing how much it has shaped who she is and improved her life. She wants us to really sit with ourselves and think about the things we want to work on. Ask, “What can I do to ensure that I’m being the most beautiful *me* possible?” From skin and hair care, to diet, to fitness, to the way we talk to ourselves or others. All the little things that make up holistic living. No quick fixes! We’re here to werrrrrrk, hunty.
“Forget the internet for a second. Forget what the Instagram models look like, we’re talking about YOU...” - Fran the MF Goat.
Implement a fitness regime that works for you. Maybe it’s part of your morning routine, maybe it’s an after dinner thing; everyone gets to choose what is best for them and that’s part of the beauty of this life. :) Try a few things and see what works. There is an emphasis on the importance of starting slow, allowing your mind and body to get used to new activity. Fran started off with walking, increasing her distance over time, and then turned that into jogging when it felt right for her. Blogilates and Yoga With Adriene are YouTube channels she mentions here. I have been hooked to yoga ever since trying a few videos from Adriene. Yoga by Biola is another great channel to check out. Biola has this video, “Restorative Yoga for Collective Trauma”, which I love. I learned of her from The Friend Zone earlier in 2020.
Skin and Hair: Check out Frans YouTube channel to see all the informative videos she has on all-natural beauty and health tips. Personally, I really like Naptural85 for hair videos as my curl pattern is very similar to hers. Click around on suggested videos to find the ones that speak to you.
Ep. 9: Don’t Forget the Feet
OIL UP! From head-to-toe. Get that moisture. Especially in these colder months. Hands, feet, nails, toenails...literally everywhere. Dustin cannot get over the importance of the feet. Fran says this aztec healing clay is great for dry, cracked feet, and she hinted at its ability to fix some facial skin woes as well. Extra Fran tip: put a small amount of oil on your nail beds before painting them. This protects the skin and promotes nail growth. I tried this myself and it’s a game changer in my nail health! They used to get cracks in them once they start getting to a certain length, but if i keep them oiled up, they are smooth as precious little stones. :)
Ep. 10: A$AP Shirley Caesar
This episode reminds us that finances, too, can impact our total feeling of well-being. The Friends all want us to get our finances in order, taking the tiniest of baby steps, if needed. Fran’s 3 things to cut back on:
Eating Out
Online Shopping
Places like Target, where you go for 1 thing and leave with a full cart.
Making these sacrifices adds up. The goal is that eventually, any big things that are weighing on our mental due to finances can more easily be dealt with.
Ep. 11: And I’m Telling You, I’m NOT Going!
It’s all about skin-care in this wellness segment! Starting with what goes into your body, and ending with what goes on your body. First off: DRINK LOTS OF WATER! This not only promotes healthy skin but as we all know, it’s just good for the body in general. The body runs nice and smoothly when it’s hydrated from the inside-out.
If you need to cut down on your caffeine intake (I’m right there with ya), Fran suggested Yerba Mate. It’s a natural source of caffeine and much cleaner than what comes in other energy drinks. I must say, I feel like the naturally occurring caffeine just hits different. I was hyyype the first few times I got a Yerba Mate instead of my usual orange Red Bull! Energy drink isn’t the only form to get your Yerba fix, thankfully. It’s sold as a loose leaf tea, or in bagged tea as well. I LOVE coffee though, and I am not giving that up so easy. I find that bringing mindfulness to my habits with it, helps me to not consume too much.
Now, for the outside of the body: washing and moisturizing daily is imperative. This may be obvious to some, but it can also feel difficult for those with a really busy schedule. I know for me, as a mom, there has been many times when I only had one chance to take a shower on a given day, and if I didn’t take it, I was always sorry. Or I would take a rushed, half-effort shower and get dressed immediately after without oil, lotion, anything. Having a routine in place for daily washing and moisturizing (that works with my sporadic life) helps me make sure it won’t get missed. Again, as with episode 9, OIL UP! Coconut oil is a great choice, but my skin just drinks it up like water. Sesame oil is a nice alternative because it’s a bit thicker. It was hard for me to get used to smelling like a huge sesame seed though, not gonna lie. But there are so many different oils and butters out there to love our bodies with, just use some trial and error to find which one(s) work best for you.
Last thing: Bedding. Change it at least once a week. Get on the silk pillowcase train! Or if you real fancy, like Fran, get you a full-on silk sheet set. Cotton sheets soak up all the moisture from our skin that we work so hard and lovingly on.
Ep. 12: The Shut Down Mixtape
House cleaning time! Clean your fridge, clean your closets, clean your desk drawers. Clean everything! Trying to especially bring focus to areas that are often overlooked in your regular daily cleaning. By doing this, we clear out old energy, removing heaviness from our homes that we may not even realize is there. I personally can vouch that this helps with anxiety and even lifts my depression symptoms as well. It feels good when the space I live in looks and smells nice, so taking the effort is more than worthwhile.
Ep. 13: Oh God…
Get in touch with what religion/spirituality mean to YOU. This one was hard for me because I wasn’t raised with much knowledge of (or respect for, sadly) religion. As I grew, I became super interested in the various religions and how they affect the lives of others - good or bad. I’ve now learned to adapt my own spiritual practices that support me and help me get by. And this is life changing.
Ep. 14: Say It Like You Mean It
Here, we are instructed to find out what our individual love language is. This comes from the book The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman. The 5 Love Languages are:
Quality Time
Acts of Service
Receiving Gifts
Words of Affirmation
Physical Touch
You may already have an idea of what your primary love language is, but you can get some more information on that by reading the book or by taking quizzes on the book’s website. Knowing your love language, as a single, can help you define what you need from a partner. As someone in a relationship, it can help both partners learn how to best make sure everyone knows they are loved and valued.
Ep. 15: Yo Mama
Scalp Care for Winter Weather!
½ Cup Olive Oil ~ Seals in moisture
2 Tbsp. Honey (Fran uses Raw honey) ~ Creates pretty shine
½ Cup Coconut Milk ~ Adds protein
½ an Avocado ~ Healthy fat
½ a Banana ~ Softens hair
Blend all ingredients into a creamy conditioner, which should come out a nice light greenish color.
I keep forgetting coconut milk at the store or else I’d have been tried this one, smh *face palm* But I will edit to add my review after I finally do this. :)
Ep. 16: Non Profit & Chill
This episode had no segments, but we can still gain a wellness tip from it. Recorded right after Fran returned from a trip to Africa, she had a ton of insight to share on why it’s so important to be an ethical consumer. This episode was a great one to re-listen to as it reminded me that I am reading labels and the “about” pages on brand’s websites for a valid reason that is important to me, not just following trends. Dang imposter syndrome, always trying to step in and ruin everything (shoutout to the Friend Zone for teaching me about that as well, in a later episode.)
Fair Trade Errything !!!
Ep. 17: There’s A Song For That
No wellness segment this week, per say, but again I’ll summarize the episode to make it wellness for us all. The friends basically dode over their favorite break-up songs, from the deepest of soul, to the pettiest of rap songs. Many genres listed, and many bangers. This episode is a great listen for those going through a breakup, or even if you’re a big fan of the episodes where the Friends just let loose and have fun.
Ep. 18: Don’t You Go To Work?
Inspired by Assante and his newly purchased stones, which he is carrying safely in his pocket, Fran suggested that us listeners get in on the magic as well by getting our own stones. Starting with Citrine. This stone is a light orange color, and can be found online or in local crystal stores in most cities. Often referred to as “the merchants stone”, Citrine is believed to attract success. Fran offered the idea of laying it on some money, because she did it and got a random check in the mail soon after...And I kid you not - I did it, and the saaame thing happened to me. I was shook and beyond grateful!
Other stones mentioned here are Lapis Lazuli and Black Tourmaline. Lapis is a pretty, royal blue shade, usually with gold flakes in it. Lapis is known as the “communication stone”. Black Tourmaline is, you guessed it, black, and often found in shiny pieces. Fran says she keeps one of these by her bedside to absorb negative thoughts; letting it cleanse her energy before bed.
Stores mentioned on this episode: Rock Star, and Namaste shop. Both New York based but have online shopping available. Personally, and this is gonna sound real woo-woo, but I prefer picking out stones in person because then I can actually feed off of their energy to pick the right one for me. Those living in a small town, there is probably a crystal shop not too far away.
Ep. 19: The Friend Zone & The Read Mash Up Pt. 1
Wellness this week: be messy and silly with your friends. For me, I don’t currently have any real life friends to hang out with, plus COVID, so my family gets to enjoy all my silly mess. Life just cannot be lived being serious 100% of the time!
Ep. 20: 2015, I’ma Let You Finish, But 2016…
I loved this episode because it brings us back to our journals. Fran asks the guys and us listeners to reflect on two simple, but powerful questions to answer at the end of each year:
What are 3 things you discovered about yourself this year that you love? Things that you feel will propel you into the next year, as a person, career-wise, and as a whole. Write freely about how you plan on maintaining and evolving.
What are 3 things you discovered about yourself this year that you did not like? Maybe some of these things are hard to face. Reflect on how you’ve allowed them to hold you back and what you are doing to adjust them.

― loves dogs but doesn’t feel he’s responsible enough to take care of one yet, though he will certainly volunteer to pet-sit his friends’ dogs.
background:
born in cheonan, south korea to two very affectionate parents and an older sister, yohan was the name given to the first boy of the hwa’s; a small loving family who moved to australia two years after his birth.
the reason for this is that his mom was promoted to become the director of a renowned gaming company that was opening its new headquarters in sydney. his father is a software engineer specialised in videogames development who works under the same company.
his sister is a graphic designer and she, too, is currently working with them in the multimedia and design area. she’s almost 7 years older than him and ever since they were kids, she took a protective role over yohan.
it was easy for yohan to get really invested in videogames from a young age, after all, his parents would often bring home their newest releases as well as games from other various companies (his father liked to play a lot as well and he himself was a fan of many games, mostly the nintendo classics).
fast forward to his teenage years; he was actually good at school, not the best, but definitely did good enough to not worry his parents with his grades. sports always piqued his interest. he was part of the basketball team and would use his skateboard often to get to school (which would earn him earfuls from the teachers saying how dangerous it was.) other than that, he was an active member in the gaming club (shocking, i know).
at 14 he got his first close up at what esports were like after participating in a tournament of counter strike, junior division. his team (which was made up by members from the gaming club) won and he got to watch matches from other divisions, only growing more and more fascinated about the whole thing. the idea of becoming a professional gamer didn’t seem so far fetched then.
around late 2011, the same year twitch started as what it is, yohan found the platform and immediately grew curious about it. it was fascinating to watch other people play, thus it didn’t take him long to start his own channel under the username “chance” right after he turned 15. it took him a while to find his own pace there, not quite sure of what to say or how to act. eventually, he saw that the less reserved and cautious he was, the more people watched and liked his stream, so from then on, he stopped worrying about what ifs and what people would think about him.
this is a double edged sword: as his popularity grows, he becomes more and more brutally honest and less mindful of the consequences his words and actions could have. whereas he quickly became one of the public’s favorites, he was also viewed as someone potentially problematic that could bring a bad reputation to the community, though this only seemed to be a prejudice from other gamers and public figures.
he doesn’t care, however, and chance was pretty dead set on keep doing his thing. he was also really active in tournaments, either small or big, and other teams would often reach out for him to fill in. he rarely ever turned down an opportunity and even though they didn’t always win, participating was more than enough for him to gain the favor of the audience.
when he was 18, a formal contract to be part of the chiefs esports club (a recently founded professional club with teams competing in counter-strike: global offensive and league of legends based in australia) was presented to him and of course he signed.
between his streams, which had become a tri-weekly kind of deal, and the “training” with his teammates the rest of the days, it was clear that yohan wasn’t in the slightest interested to pursue a higher education, and honestly his parents didn’t complain about it as he was already doing well on his own. nonetheless, his sister was concerned and pushed him to at least take a couple of online classes (which he did, but mostly to learn how to edit videos and understand audio aspects to improve the quality of his streams.)
around this time, nasty rumours about his parents buying his way into the club were spread which earned him the dislike of some of his teammates. it was the first time yohan ever encountered a situation like that but thanks to the management, he was able to move past that. the oceanic pro league was founded in 2015, a professional league of legends competition, and the chiefs esports club participated and won. this helped the rumours around him disperse for he proved his skills were what put him into the team. sadly, he left the club a year later.
for the next couple of years, he focused on his stream and growing his community. yohan was invited to different events, tournaments and other collaborations during this time and he was always excited for them. he even decided to create a youtube channel to upload highlights and vlogs.
then, the overwatch league was announced (chance quickly became addicted to this game and even reached top 500 in competitive) and he was contacted by the seoul team (seoul dynasty) to become part of their team for the inaugural season. like that, at 21, yohan packed his bags and moved to south korea.
between 2017 and 2019, he was part of the team as dps. he had to change his schedule yet again to stream only on the weekends and with some restrictions his contract established (like not talking about the team or the league live). some of his fans voiced their dislike for this new attitude of his, which yohan brushed with a roll of the eyes and a joke.
however, before the 2020 season started and the team was on break, chance was one day streaming and offhandedly said a comment about another player in the league which he had a match with. this caused a really big commotion online and several pro-gamers were rubbed the wrong way about his words (to this day, he still doesn’t know what was so wrong about calling out someone t-bagging him in a pro game) and his reputation was admittedly tarnished. the seoul dynasty’s management team decided that it was better to let him go.
that’s how last year, chance moved into his current apartment after looking online for a new place to live.
in the present, he streams 5 days a week a variety of games and his schedule varies, some days he goes live in the mornings and other days really late at night. he has a steady income from various sponsorships as well as the monetization of his youtube channel, which he updates twice a week.

Superposition
a deancas college roommates AU
Dean Winchester had it all at Wichita State University — a second chance, a future devoid of his father, and a roommate-turned-best friend who understands him inside and out.
But his father dies, he fails out in his second semester, and Castiel Novak leaves without so much as a goodbye.
Three years later, Dean has picked up the pieces. He works at the most trusted auto-shop in Lawrence, he’s putting Sam through college. Dean thinks it can’t get much better than that.
Then Castiel Novak gives him a concussion, and everything falls apart. Again.
Chapter 2 is up on AO3 (and below the cut)! Tumblr chapter masterlist here.
Classic Rock and Other Foreign Concepts
Three Years Earlier
Castiel Novak was ready for his second chance.
Sure, the name “Wichita State University” held no cache, and sure, it was only two hours away from home. But it was a full ride, it was free of old high school acquaintances. It was enough.
Castiel stood at the door of his empty dorm room, hope blooming in his chest as he regarded the dingy bunks and linoleum floors.
He didn’t have much in the way of belongings, so moving in was quick and easy, even by himself. Castiel made his bed, hung up his limited outfits in the dresser, and filled his desk with his books and paper. Only one thing remained in his suitcase — a picture of his family, two Christmases ago. Castiel took it out and looked at it for a moment, before deciding to place it on his desk.
He decided it might be a good idea to familiarize himself with his new surroundings. That was sure to calm down the inevitable anxiety that his first trip to the showers would bring. Castiel strolled down the hallway, doing his best to stay out of the way of all of the other freshmen moving in on his floor.
After successfully discovering the bathroom and the water fountain, as well as narrowly avoiding an awkward encounter with two giggling girls who were apparently intent upon introducing themselves to him, he returned to his room with a sigh.
Castiel moved to his desk and opened his computer. He pulled up his course schedule, reviewing it again, despite having already committed it to memory. Tuesdays and Thursdays would be difficult, he thought, with financial accounting, economics, and an intro to business. The other days were more interesting, holding philosophy, creative writing, and nineteenth century British literature.
Castiel was about to read the class descriptions for the millionth time when a loud thud and a grunt interrupted his thoughts. He stood up, fast, almost knocking his head on the bottom of his bed. Castiel got to his open door just in time to almost run into someone.
“Shit! Watch it, man!”
Castiel found himself face to face with… Plastic storage bins. The man holding them shifted to reveal a mild scowl. Castiel cleared out of his way, and the man set the three boxes down.
“Sorry,” Castiel muttered.
“You’re fine,” the man grumbled. “Sorry, long drive.”
“Dean Winchester, I presume?” Castiel said, cautiously. He had seen his roommate assignment online weeks earlier.
“Damn straight,” Dean said, and he offered a hand out to Castiel, who accepted it graciously. “Sorry, man, I’m terrible with names. Have we met?”
“I’m Castiel Novak,” Castiel replied, then added, “We haven’t met, but the website informed me of your name and email address. I emailed you a few weeks back.”
Dean nodded. “I definitely didn’t respond. Sorry ‘bout that, I kind of haven’t had access to the internet in… Well, it’s a long story. Anyway, good to meet you.”
“You as well. Do you need any help unpacking?”
“Least you can do after nearly killing me.” Castiel tensed, but then Dean clapped him on the back. “Kidding. Help would be great.”
Castiel moved to unpack the box nearest him, but Dean stopped him with a hand on his arm.
“No! Uh, not that one. No offense, but that’s the most important thing I own. Give me a second, you can start on this one.”
Castiel tilted his head in inquisition, but Dean said nothing more, just got to unpacking the bin. Castiel set to work on the second of the three, first grabbing the sheets to make the bed.
When Castiel had finished with Dean’s bed, he turned to see Dean had set up a record player and a pair of bookshelf speakers on the floor.
“Behold,” Dean announced. “My prized possession.”
“A record player?” Castiel asked.
“Not just the record player,” Dean said. He went back to the box, which Castiel could now see was filled with vinyl LPs. “The whole collection.”
“It’s quite impressive.”
“Fuckin’ A-right,” Dean said. “Here, you like Zeppelin?”
“Embarrassingly, I have no idea who that is,” Castiel said, blushing.
Dean’s eyes widened. “Dude! No way! Oh man, it’s time to educate you. How have you survived this long Zeppelin-less?”
“My father was strict about music.” Castiel felt suddenly very nervous that this, combined with his near-toppling of Dean moments earlier, would have him solidly fixed on Dean’s bad side. But Dean was flipping through his records with animation, as if Castiel’s ignorance was a game to be won.
“That’s utter bullshit,” Dean declared. “Here, listen to this.”
Dean put on Led Zeppelin IV. Castiel turned back to the plastic bins, intent upon doing something while the record played. He was quiet as he worked, setting up first an ancient-looking coffee maker, then a small, LCD monitor. Dean unpacked his clothes, quietly singing along to the music.
“Do you need help with the rest?” Castiel asked when they had finished, assuming there had to be more than just those three boxes. Dean chuckled quietly.
“Nah, this is it. Thanks for the help, Castiel.”
Castiel raised an eyebrow, but only said, “You’re welcome.” Dean had brought even less than he had.
“That’s a weird name, by the way,” Dean said, turning the volume down on the speakers. “Castiel. It sounds kind of --”
“Ancient?” Castiel supplied, and Dean nodded. “That’s because it is. It’s adapted from the name of an angel in the third book of Enoch.” At Dean’s blank look, Castiel added, “Christian apocryphal lore. My parents are very religious.”
“Ah,” Dean said. “And you…?”
“Haven’t been to church since I was fourteen,” Castiel finished. “We are very different, my family and I.”
Dean nodded. “That them?” He asked, pointing at the picture on Castiel’s desk.
“Yes,” Castiel said.
“That’s a lot of kids.”
“Yes, there’s five of us.”
“Road trips must have been fun,” Dean said.
This actually got a laugh out of Castiel.
“I’ve only got one. My kid brother, Sam,” Dean said.
“How old is Sam?”
“God.” Dean rubbed his face, considering. “I guess he’s fourteen now. It’s weird — I feel like I can never see him as any older than, like, eight.”
“I can’t say I understand,” Castiel replied. “I’m the youngest.”
“Damn, that must suck, four older siblings. What’re their names?”
Castiel picked up the picture. “The boy on the left — he’s the oldest — that’s Gabriel. The other is Bartholomew. The redhead is Anna. And then there’s Hannah, she’s just a couple years older than me.”
Dean nodded, moving to his record player. He pulled a small, worn piece of paper from the inside.
“This is old as hell,” he said, showing Castiel the picture, “but that’s my dad, and that’s Sam when he was… ten, maybe?”
“It’s just the three of you?”
“Yeah, my mom died when I was, like, four.”
“I apologize, I didn’t mean to --”
“No worries, man,” Dean said. “Long time ago.”
There was an awkward pause that made Castiel want to open his computer just to look preoccupied, but Dean spoke.
“I’m sorry, I can’t get over this name stuff. I can’t be roommates with a dude named after an angel.”
Castiel felt his entire body deflate. Day one, and just his name was already making things difficult. “I’m… Sure there’s a way to switch roommates. But, what’s wrong with being named after an angel?”
“Dude, I was totally joking,” Dean said, putting his hands up defensively. “I’m not switching roommates — unless you’re secretly a vampire or something.” Castiel smiled at that. “And there’s nothing wrong with it, I’m just not into the whole religion thing. Makes me feel weird. Nah, I’ll just have to call you something else. Any suggestions?”
“I’ve always just been ‘Castiel.’”
“Man, haven’t had many creative friends,” Dean said. “Cas it is, then.”
“Cas?” Castiel replied. He considered the new nickname. Castiel actually found it strange that no one had ever thought of it before, now that he had heard it. “I suppose it is a great deal shorter.”
“Easier to say, too,” Dean said. “It fits.”
Castiel smiled tentatively. “Sure.”
The music faded, and Dean flipped the record to the B-side.
“What do you think so far?” He asked.
“It’s certainly different than what I’m used to. In a good way,” Castiel added.
Dean beamed at him. “Awesome. I have more in here, too, and it’s not just Zep. Mostly the classics — the Stones, Rush, AC/DC… And a shit load of grunge, too. Man, wait til you hear Alice in Chains…”
Castiel smiled at his animation. “Music is important to you?”
“Dude, I couldn’t function without music. I feel like every time I listen to a song I like, I find something new that makes it even better.” Dean chuckled to himself. “Sorry, I’m geeking out about classic rock.”
“I don’t mind,” Castiel said, and he found that it was true. “I feel similarly about books.”
“You like to read?”
“Immensely.”
“You’ll have to give me some recommendations. I read Vonnegut in high school, and that was cool, but other than that and Harry Potter I think I’m pretty hopeless.”
“I will,” Castiel said, even though he knew he wouldn’t, even though he knew Dean was simply saying the polite thing. He had learned by now that when people asked about him to talk about the things he liked, they were just being nice.
Dean asked Castiel which end of the hall the bathrooms were on, and excused himself.
When he returned, Dean clapped his hands together. “So,” he said. “I gotta ask you the Freshman Questions.” At Castiel’s confused look, he elaborated: “You know, the two things you ask everyone for your whole freshman year. Where are you from, what are you majoring in?”
Castiel nodded. “I see. I didn’t know there was a procedure.”
Dean looked at him for a moment. “It’s not — I was kinda joking.”
“Oh. Right,” Castiel said, rubbing his neck. “Well, I’m from Guthrie — it’s a small town in Oklahoma, just a few hours south of here. And I’m studying accounting and creative writing.”
“Guthrie… I’ve driven through there, on our way to Oklahoma City for a job my dad worked once,” Dean said.
“It’s not very impressive.”
Dean laughed. “Nah, not really.”
“What about you, Dean?”
“I’m from Lawrence — it’s northeast of here. And I have no fucking idea what I’m gonna major in,” he said. “I’m not really… Well, Sam is the smart one. That kid is gonna kick ass when he goes to school. I’m kinda just here to…” Dean trailed off.
“Experience it?” Castiel suggested. Dean shrugged.
“Yeah, I guess.” He cleared his throat. “Why accounting? I get the writing thing, you said you like books — but accounting? I feel like those two don’t mix.”
“They don’t,” Castiel agreed. “But I don’t want to be a starving author. I do want to be able to take care of myself.” I want to be far, far away from everything I’ve ever known. I want to leave and never look back.
“Fair,” Dean said. “I don’t know about you, Cas, but I’m starving. Wanna grab some dinner?”
“Sure,” Castiel said with a smile.
The next day, in his first creative writing class, the professor asked each of them to share their major, their hometown, and a fun fact. He called, “Novak, Castiel?”
“Double major in accounting and writing. I’m from Guthrie, Oklahoma. I suppose a fun fact is that I’m named after an angel, but you can just call me Cas.”
